Over the next couple months, I continued to go out on hunts and killed multiple creatures. Sadly not all of them were strong enough for me to consider making a serum out of them, but I did manage to capture a few in order to make them into domesticated animals. The main animals I captured were wild Bolma and Brackaset. They were given to my family to raise in the compound for a safe and abundant supply of meat. Other creatures I found where only really good for the meat.
I hadn't found any stronger creatures than these lately. I thought it was due to being to close to the safe areas where the coven was built, so I decided to widen my hunting range. Due to this I did find some stronger creatures like more Nagas, Kamuriths and Bane back Spiders. I had made sure to store the spines of the first two creatures in the lab, but since Bane Back Spiders don't have spines, I had to just take samples of their blood, organs and the entire brain in hopes of having enough genetic material for my later plans. I also managed to find some eggs in a couple of them and stored them in the lab to see if I can hatch them later. I even managed to find a Naga nest that held a clutch of 8 eggs. I stored them away as well and brought them to the family compound to see if they could be tamed with the Nightsisters' magic.
The only setback was when I discovered a canyon full of caves and thought to go exploring in hopes of finding a new creatures to hunt, but I regretted that decision soon after. The caves lining the canyon were the homes to a colony of Gaping Spiders. These things were huge and relentless. Once I saw their size and numbers, I made a hasty retreat, but they continued to chase me. Out of the canyon and through the desert, they didn't let up. I had to use some force techniques to restrain them as I picked them off one by one with a rain of laser arrows. When all was said and done there were over 20 giant spiders and just like the Bane Back Spiders, I collected a bunch of genetic material, but sadly, not a single egg.
(AN: I think the Gaping Spiders of Dathomir work similar to an ant colony. Worker, drones, soldiers and a queen. I think the queen is the only spider that lays eggs in the colony.)
I headed back to to the coven, but on my way back I saw another young Nightbrother running my way. It seems he was being chased by something and was hoping to escape to the coven in hopes of it giving up its chase. Sadly most creatures on Dathomir don't give up on the hunt of prey. I couldn't even guess how long the Nightbrother had been running, but based on how tired and exhausted he looked and the sweat coming off him like a torrential downpour, it must've been a long distance. When I looked past him to see what was chasing him, I saw that it was a Lesser Nydak. I couldn't help but thinkthat this young Nightbrother was seriously unlucky.
Lesser Nydaks may be easier for more experienced and stronger Nightbrothers to hunt, but it was another thing entirely if the one fighting against the Lesser Nydak was nothing more than an inexperienced whelp. Normally he would just be left to his fate to die, but this seemed like a blessing in disguise to me. I quickly pulled my energy bow off my back and fired laser arrows back to back, drawing the creatures attention towards me.
When it charged at me, I quickly placed my bow on my back draw my spear. I lunged forward with a quick thrust towards the Nydak's midsection, followed by a swiped to the left causing a cut to appear on the creatures stomach, which pissed it off. It roared and pounced towards me, swiping its massive claws from right to left in an uncoordinated mess. But even if it was messy, it was still dangerous to get hit by a Nydak. I used the shaft of my spear to parry some of the strikes while being pushed back and then shove the butt of the spear into the ground and pole vaulted over the creature. Once behind the creature, I quickly turn to face the creature and thrust the spearhead into one of the exposed sections of the Nydaks spine and twisted before pulling away.
You could hear the crack from me breaking the creatures back. The Lesser Nydak quickly fell due to not having the support of its legs anymore, but it did not give up on trying to kill me. It used is large arms and claws to lift its body and lunge at me repeatedly, as if it knew it would die and was trying to take me down with it while it still had the strength. Sadly in this state, it was too slow to land a hit on me and I quickly stabbed my spear into its throat when I saw an opening. It died 2 minutes later.
Once it was dead, I went to work on disassembling the carcass. I made sure to keep the skull and spine for my personal use, while the rest of the hide, bones and meat were separated and stored in my bag. When I looked around for the Nightbrother from earlier, he was gone. Most likely kept on running even while I was fighting the Lesser Nydak.
Seeing as I was alone again, I asked Kat to make a gene serum out of the bone marrow from the spine of the Lesser Nydak. It only took a couple minutes before I had it in my hands. I quickly injected the serum into myself and waited for the changes to come.
(AN: The system name 'Katelyn' seems kinda long so for now I will shorten it to 'Kat'. If anyone has a better idea on what the name of the system should be, let me know in the comments and I'll go through the past chapters and change it.)
When the changes started, most of the pain came from my arms and hands. My heights grew a few centimetres, my arms lengthened so it seemed to be slightly disproportionate to my body, my hands grew bigger, my nails lengthened and became claws, and my spine shifted a little in order for me to be able to run on all fours or six in my case. Not as well as a quadrupedal creature, but well enough as a Nydak does. The changes weren't as subtle as before, but what can I do about it.
(AN: His arms are longer than they're supposed to be, in case anyone was confused.)
Now that there's nothing left, I quickly put away my things and try out my new way of travel to the coven. Being able to properly run using all of my limbs was honestly exhilarating and it reduced my travel time be more than half. I even managed to pass by the Nightbrother from earlier on my way back to the coven. Of course, once I got to the coven, I quickly stood up right and walked through the gates.
(AN: Ok, so it seems I may have neglected to mention Adramelech's age, or I just can't remember if I said it before, so I'll leave this note for now to add a little context and I'll do a different chapter for the skills and age. But for now, Adramelech was supposed to be 2 years old when he started training with Ma'lak, 3 years old after the time skip, as there has be many months passing by in every chapter, and he should be turning 4 in this chapter. If y'all can verify this or have anything to say about it, just do a paragraph comment here.)
When I got back to the family compound, I was greeted by my mother and Que'lina. I quickly showed them the meat from my hunts and told them of my run in with the Gaping Spiders. While Que'lina was fascinated with my tales of glory, my mother quickly reprimanded me about going further than I was permitted to hunt. After the brief lecture, she quickly congratulated me for turning 4 years old and told me I would be getting my tribal markings tonight. I was ecstatic and told her that I would be making a special ink for the markings. She was curious about the ink I was making, but let it slide.
I went to store the spoils of my hunt in the storage room, where others would take care of it later, then went to my room to make the ink necessary for my markings. I had gotten all the supplies I needed over time. I first smashed the mushlings with a large stone bowl and pestle until it turned into a paste, then mixed in Bane Back Spider's blood, changing paste into a greenish color and mixing it together with the acid I harvested from the Hydraatis. After mixing all of these substances together and storing it in an earthen ware pot, I covered the lid shut and let it sit until it reached a liquid state. The acid from the Hydraatis will speed up the process and allow the ink to be finished be tonight.
To all my readers, I'm sorry this took me so long to post, but I had to handle work stuff. I work at an airport and at the airport, flight schedules changed and my work shift changed. then I had to do 'Lessons' for my job and then went through another shift change, because another worker was trying to keep their job and need to trade some days with me. At first I was going to post new chapters on Thurdays and Friday once everything settled down, but now it has changed to Saturday and Sunday. I'm only able to post today cause I managed to get a work around, but that also means I'll be trying to post new chapters over the weekend as well this week. On a side note, I work 10 hours and 30 minutes a day for 3 day and then I work 6 hours and 30 minutes for 2 days. So it totals out to 43 hours of work. But this means that if my body isn't to hurt or i'm not to tired after working those hours then I can try to post an extra chapter on Thursday or Friday. I'll let you know how it goes, but no promises, it's just a possibility.
