the original story never explained how magic works exactly which in my opinion one of the greatest plot holes in the story. for example, the patronus charm is said to be one of the hardest spell where even seasoned aurors can't use and harry masters it in his forth year where in his fifth he can't cast a bubble charm for the tournament and it is said he is one of the most talented people in charm. so is it talent or magic limit that makes him able to cast a spell or the other . Also we didn't really see people exhausting their magic it is more like the force where it is an invisible energy only some can interact with it which in a way explain muggleborns . so i think this is a viable route : - magic like the force a invisible energy only few can interact with it - mc uses meditation like a jedi to increase his control and power over magic

you can go the route of supreme magus where mana core purifies over time and there is false magic where one's core stay mostly the same and needs incantation and conduit to use and true magic which mostly limited to pruebloods with rich history or can be lost to time and due to MC background he has access and this will explain why silent and wandless casting are limited and only seen form powerful characters Or as seen in HP world there was no real time when one character exhausted his magic so you can go the route of mental power which can be said the closest to original and the MC can discover an incomplete technique for improving it in his family archive like one novel I forgot the name of where the mc can create stars in his mindscape instead of magic circles around his heart and this also gave him better memory and process/reaction time with each star this way you don't change the setting to much while introducing new concept
