A good son, a good friend, a good brother, but a bad boy indeed. A legendary big brother to have. I have been taught the most adult stuff by elder cousin brothers and they always had/have my back.
"Lies! That brat broke every goddamn rule we had, as if he was doing it on purpose! Do you know he dared precious little Irene to get her first tattoo! He's the reason she was led astray."

Excellent! It makes sense why two good teacher give him special treatment. I used to love when people gave MC good treatment because of their potential untill I realized they rarely got benefit out of it.
"But, while you should stay vigilant, you should also know that I have also learnt from my mistakes. I have arranged for protection for you, in case you are targeted. I will tell you their identities, but you cannot reveal that you know their purpose, since they're also from the Whisper Guard. One of them is called Harvey, and the other is called Zim. I believe, by now, you should already be familiar with them."

I think having connections is always good. I get why we make MC lone wolves but generally an army requires good team cohesion and ability to follow orders to the letter. The chain of command is the backbone of an army.
Both arguments sounded correct to him, and he could not decide which one was better. Which one would serve him the best in the long run? Which one would lead him to strength?

Don't mind me. I am just studying the way of authors.
Ahm. I rather like this style of his. Its shows the trauma of having your world view turned upside down at a young age. His goal wasn't having friends. It was connections. And connections need to have some ROI to them.
Nero began to get a bad feeling about this. He was beginning to suspect that the value of Silas' parents as potential useful contacts in the future was going to be nil. He could not help but think of how much time this would take. In total, he expected between three to four hours to be spent here. He hoped this wouldn't be time wasted.

Ameruca?
A sudden excitement filled Nero as he recalled what little he knew about Nova's government. Supposedly they practised something called a 'democracy' and a 'three party system', whatever that meant. He didn't know much about it, and he couldn't wrap his head around how that would work either.

I prefer eating with my hands. I think the sweat on it makes the food tastier...
He observed how Vanessa used a different fork for the salad, and a different one for the rice. The way she held the knife with her long, slender fingers was impractical for offensive use, but it made it easy for her to cut through her meat. He averted his gaze just before she noticed him looking. It would not do to be accused of ogling twice in one day.

Excellent chapter. It displays the way different strata of society lives. But I am missing the military ranks. Even aux. personnel are assigned ranks....or not?
I know...I feel envious whenever I am in Miami on vacation. The yachts, the mansions between the beach and mainland, the babes, sigh...
Damn. He never knew how bad it felt not to be rich until that exact moment.

It's a good story with an interesting world and characters. I love the cards and the way they are made and used. The MC has past trauma of losing his brother to a ploy he didn't expect in the idealized nation. It turned his view askew and it shows in his decisions. He has a clear goal and works singlemindedly toward it. The other characters feel alive and aren't there to serve the MC only. I have binged so far but am out of coins. Will continue once I have saved up some more. It deserves far more love and attention than it gets. Absolutely recommend this.
