I honestly can't stand Riftan. All he ever does is do as he pleases, never once taking into account what she wants. True to how society functions in this world, he treats her like his property, like an object (albeit a cherished one). I kept hoping for him to redeem himself, but he kept getting worse instead. There's nothing romantic about his behaviour. I quite enjoyed the chapters in which Maxi was on her own, and I hope she can finally become her own person in book 2.
