Of course I agree that the other characters are dumb, especially Michael for not even trying to check if what Samael's saying about the church is true. He should've put aside his hate and at least investigated the church once. Samael's whole plan, or "scam" I should say, depended on Michael disagreeing with him for everything. Pure reverse psychology in layman terms. If Michael was even as smart as a fifth grader, this plan wouldn't have worked, but I guess he was blinded by his hate.

The thing is only we as readers know Samael's plan, and as simple as it is *putting two enemies against each other by exploiting their hate for each other*, it's not suspicious. At least the group's perspective. Because Michael hate Samael since he was his bully. So anything Samael says or do, Michael opposes it. Classic reverse psychology. Lily knows him the best, but he's shutting her off for what she did, so her focus is there. And not to mention all of them are so focused on finishing the mission, finding out what's happening, etc etc. Ideally they should've suspected Samael for not cooperating and investigating the church. But by not joining any of the team meetings before coming to this mission and, even before that, upsetting Michael by not fighting those two royals with him, he has already shown them that he isn't the "cooperating" type. Not to mention it's just been a few months since he used to be a trash. The change is too fast for them to make anything else of him. So it matches their perspective of him.

I remember he said that his fate was unknown in the final battle. That doesn't mean he didn't know where he was that just means he didn't know if he was dead or alive (most probably dead)

How is that similar to Ren? Ren never shared his book with anyone. If what this guy said is right, then the former Lucas has intentionally revealed parts of information to Kai to manipulate him. If anything, it's more like Eren from AoT.

Lucas has made this line his signature by now. "Fine, let's take the long way."

I don't think author ever mentioned that. It was only revealed that he was used by the Vampires as his pawn in the second volume. I think you're mistaking Volume for Chapter in this context.
