Zev pushed through the water of the bathing pools towards her, the moonlight shining on his wet skin so he looked like a marble statue—a Greek God, but alive. He grinned wickedly and dove for her when he got close. Giggling, Sasha tried to swim out of his reach, but he caught her ankle in one strong fist and pulled her back through the water effortlessly.

I think humans messed up the chimeras' bonds, and perhaps Lhars was Kyelle's mate all along. However, because he is Zev's brother, and their resemblance, plus their rivalry, prevented Lhars from showing his true self. The connection drifted, and maybe now that Zev has made it clear he doesn't want her, she will see it.
Kyelle shook her head without turning looking at him. "No, thank you. It's just going to be filling Sasha in and making sure she understands how it all works. Then getting the bonfire and feast organized." She continued fiddling with the hem, frowning at is, as if her mind wasn't really on what she was saying.
