I understand. Different culture. Different way of doing things, bit Smallville is an American show, and I don't think this story is a translation. The only times I have ever seen someone address their dad as "Father" is in an official setting , like Court or when being questioned by the police.

If I called my dad " father". He would ask if I was in drugs or something. It's too distant of a word to use for family. At least here in the south.
