I understand where you're coming from, but disagree. Like most writers, the author improves over time, and without giving away any spoilers, the way the main character treats the female ' supporting' (Not really much support going on) characters later in the novel feels more as if they are used as tools to further Death's objectives. That said, I agree in that I believe the "Villain" tag is entirely unnecessary. While, from our perspective, the protagonist might be seen as a villain, within the context of the author’s world, this interpretation doesn’t entirely hold true in my opinion.

Doesn't that mean that they could then rely on where the sun was positioned to figure out north? Sure it would be less accurate and not readable at all times but it would be the best they have.
