i think there is fey magic involved. but as to who is the source controling it.... i have now idea. I suspect the Fall wolves . because of Bells mothers notebook tracking experiments, possibly in Bell herself and of one of Bells parents being a fall wolf and of her living there for years.

I think thevdark mages turned themselves into the monsters to survive in the north. either that or it was a side effect of dark magic at the temple found by the hot springs.
