There is penalty zone to level up and it will help him to get to level of job change quest so he doesn't need that, and he can become her contracted magician or just provoke Riser to let him in the rating game and ask Rias for underworld pass as a reward for setting her free, so no need to become devil

'I'm going to join House Gremory!' He disliked the idea of being treated as an enslaved person, and for the same reason, becoming a slave of Rias Gremory, he valued as a path that was at the very least acceptable.

Because instead of becoming a slave by joining Rias Gremory, he would be a loved and cared-for servant; two completely opposite concepts.

Well he will be in hospital for two weeks probably or more if you want to make it real (you know unnown illness cured will attract attention plus they would want to find out how he got cured), so time skip would be good idea now, at least till he will be about to get solution to the problem.
