roughly the size of Poland
Not that that was surprising since all things considered, Hoenn was still an island even if it was a pretty damn big one with its around 10 million km² mainland, 12 million km² if we added its various smaller sub-islands on top of that. Had the Hoenn Desert been as big as the Sahara, then it would have covered more than 90% of the mainland, so everyone living there was lucky that it was "only" around 330 thousand km² in size, which was a bit more than 3% of Hoenn's mainland. Still, seeing how big the desert was, trying to monitor the whole periphery in a detailed fashion made no sense, so it had to be a coincidence.

I honestly forgot Earth was his primary affinity because most of his preferred jutsu are Water.
"It's Earth Release, sir. However, I believe Water Release is just behind, if not equal to it," Takuma replied eagerly.

Holy crap, I'm an idiot! I just realized she is that Izumi and not just another OC. The first time we met Itachi was when he was with her and I didn't think anything about it because they're both Uchiha from the same year so it makes sense that they'd be friends. This changes almost nothing but I'm shocked it took me this long to figure that out.
"And it's not like you're just anyone. You're close to her son, Itachi, if I'm not wrong; that's one connection you can use. And you know me; that's the second one. I could ask her for you."

A single gold piece is roughly around $5,000, so they spend $5,670,000 a week and $24,500,000 a month. At first this doesn't make a ton of sense, but if we think about it, Castle Stormveil and Gatefront (which I assume are counted in this expenditure as their only other property) can be considered as a large city, so spending almost $6,000,000 a week isn't all too unusual. This still makes sense if Gatefront isn't included, as Stormveil is a castle with an active army, so if we go by today's standards, those can take hundreds of millions to run. Also for reference, in the next paragraph they are losing about $5,000,000 a month.
Yet, the weekly expenditure for Castle Stormveil averaged a staggering 1,134 gold, translating to nearly 4,900 gold a month. This was alarming given the average monthly income for an individual barely reached a single gold coin, while the castle itself brought in only 897 gold a week—or 3,812 gold a month.

"My vault in Leyndell now swells our coffers," he proclaimed. "Six hundred thousand gold in weight. That alone shall aid us in rising to our feet and weather the sanctions and attacks of the Council."

In essence, they were bleeding around 1,000 gold each month just to keep the army and Castle Stormveil in decent condition. The treasury was dwindling rapidly, with only 42,690 gold remaining. Even with Godrick's personal stash bolstering the total, it was limited, particularly when they operated at a continuous loss.

The price of apples vary but if we do some rough math 1 copper coin is roughly $0.50 or less.
In this economy, a hundred coppers equalled a silver coin, and a hundred silver coins equalled a gold. With three coppers, one could purchase an apple. A single gold coin could sustain an average civilian for a long time.

I've been reading this book since it came out, so I never looked at the rating. Ignore all of these guys who have given it a bad score. Many of them clearly haven't read very far and don't know crap. Most of them dropped it in the first part of the first arc, saying, "Oh, Takuma is a beta and soooo weak." Takuma is just quiet and going through something any regular person would find traumatic. On the weak part, that's kind of the point, is it not? We are reading about Takuma, who has nothing and no prior skill with any ninja things, learning and developing. Takuma, once he gets his feet under him, never actually feels weak. This is a fantastic fanfic written by a fantastic author, and I highly recommend it.
