Additionally, after the divorce Brian and Elena can assure Elise that she is not alone in this world and Brian could tell Elise that even if they aren’t married she would be special to him like his sister or something. He would support her, but he isn’t her true love.

In my opinion, Elise and Brian didn’t develop love for each other. If Elise did love Brian, she wouldn’t gave him to anyone even if it’s her sister. The way Elise thought of that plan and her action shows that she just doesn’t want to lose something that keeps her safe and secure. It really isn’t love but a need for a guardian. Maybe Elise needed Brian five years ago because she was still young but now after five years or maybe earier than that she should have tried to break away and realized that the world isn’t just what she experienced in the past and face her fears. I know that it might be scary to face her trauma, but she is different now. In the past, she might think the only one who she can depend on is Brian but now she has her sister. Also, if Brian keep staying with her, Brian would be more conflicted about his duties and feeling, which can lead to him staying farther away from Elise and causing the same results of having Elise feeling lonely and sad. So I really think he should divorce Elise because he would be doing a favor for himself, Rena, Elise, and other very important people in his life. Also, after being divorced, Brian and Elena can support Elise in getting use to normal life where she can start becoming independent.
