In the past, it was rare to find stories that used the Flying Raijin, but now, with the massive invasion of Chinese translations, it's hard to find one that doesn't. The eight gates don't allow you to do anything other than taijutsu. Your chakra flow becomes so violent that it's impossible to control. Trying to use senjutsu with the gates open is suicide. The Flying Raijin is a difficult technique to use in battle. Minato created a unique battle style to use it effectively, and he only achieved this because of his abnormal reaction time. Tobirama used it as an element of surprise against the Sharingan, but his battle style was more standard for ninja mages. These MCs manage to use all the techniques at the same time, ignoring their main characteristics, which I find boring and uninteresting.
