That's mostly because it was made on a budget of less than half a million. Rian Johnson edited the film himself at his home. It's sound quality is very bad, probably due to low quality equipment, but the visuals are awesome given limited budget.
Just saying that its not illegal.

Then there was the problem of being typecast. An actor like Richard Gere who is mostly seen in cheesy romantic movies is one such example. Or Tom Cruise in action-packed movies like Mission Impossible or Top Gun.
