Revenge is a tricky subject, in the world of emotions it doesn't work logically. I'm all for revenge, but it's important that your revenge is not your single goal. What's the point of dedicating your life to a goal that will end and leave you worse off. Revenge should be an act of convenience, never the end goal. If it's in your power and it has little risks do it, but if it's going to ruin your life don't. The only time all consuming revenge is the answer is when you are already at rock bottom, then you might as well drag them to hell with you.
As for Jack himself, he felt that it wasn't a weakness at all. He never understood the people who said that he should forgive and that it was for the best.
