Maybe it's a once burned thing from coming across more than a few two-faced, secret psycho 2nd-ml-syndromes... Well, something about him just makes me wait if the other shoe will drop. And don't get me started on all the fake posing he does to put Nathan in a bad light, I don't have illusions about the other's reputation being deserved at least in a great part, but he isn't any better either. So far he's been grossly taking advantage of his position as a guide for the newly awakened and Penn looking at him as a friend. Going to all his classes to cuddle him up? He's basically stalking and harassing Penn.
"Only because your lack of morals would have left everyone to die," spat Daniel, pressing his cheek into Penn's pecs as he glared at Nathan, attempting to hold the Guide tighter as if to protect him. Nathan shook his head in disbelief.

A heating sensation was felt from below the incapacitated Guide, but there was nothing Penn could do but float there. The wave of heat intensified, to the point it felt like he was hanging above a lava pool, being slowly lowered to his death. He winced when he felt the sensation touch the skin of his back. He turned his head, eyes widening when he saw what looked like a gigantic clawed hand slowly enveloping him from behind.

I see he's still not over his Guide hating, although it's to be expected given the relatively short timeframe and that he's still not understanding just how important he is.
The guide anxiously stepped out of the water and onto the shore, taking shaky steps toward the lone esper. Why couldn't he be stronger? Why did he have to awaken as a Guide? What was the point of all that military training if he only ended up dragging down all the Hunters around him when help was needed?
