It was good for growing and altering wooden things, so it was possible, but Karl didn't want to risk having to find out in the middle of nowhere with a broken wagon.

Karl is supposed to have hardly 8-9 months of experience as an Elite. He's not particularly adept at martial arts or sword fighting. How is he fighting these monsters at his own or above his own level? It seems to be so easy for him and every group he was with, even if he had his beast pets. In a one on one fight of Ascended level with an intelligent species monster, he should not be able to beat them, at least not with such ease as he's been doing till now.
He saw an opening, and went in for the kill, driving his blade straight into the chest of the oversized beast. But the blade found no purchase, and the ice covered fur simply turned it aside with a cloud of steam as the clashing Elements fought for dominance.
