the comment about him having to "rush" before Nephis finishes the nightmare is odd. he should be outside of the timeline that his other companions are at. that's why he can see tons of broken ships... he even mentioned it himself about how time should not flow the same way where he is vs the rest of the great river.

probably not shame, rather since they are flawed, so is the cage and therefore they were trying to avoid/delay his return. most likely, what happened to hope was to avoid strengthening him and making him escape.
