Blour? Mag glanced at the information displayed by the omniscient door, and a hint of surprise appeared on his face.
"Is that Uncle Blour's voice?" Anna sat up with an elated look on her face.
Mag smiled and nodded as he said, "That's right, Blour's back. Why don't we go downstairs to greet them?"
"Yes!" Anna carefully emerged from under the blanket, and then tucked it around Amy before quickly putting on her little slippers and following Mag downstairs.
Mag switched on the light in the restaurant before quickly opening the doors.
Sally and Blour stood outside with the latter in female attire, and both of them were looking quite disheveled. Behind them stood close to 100 elves with their clothes in tatters. The autumn nights were quite cold, so many of the children among them were shivering.
Most of these elves were women and children, and they all appeared to be quite exhausted yet slightly fearful as they looked at Mag.
However, they then caught sight of the warm light in the restaurant, as well as the beautiful decor within the building, and their eyes lit up in unison. 
Mag couldn't help but falter slightly upon seeing this. For a split second, he had thought that he was looking at a group of refugees. In his heart, elves were all graceful beings that valued their cleanliness very highly; how had they been reduced to such a pitiful state?
Anna emerged from behind Mag, and she looked at the cross-dressing Blour with a hesitant expression as she asked, "U-Uncle Blour?"
"Anna… I… You see…" Blour leaned down and rubbed his hands together in a rather awkward manner as he looked back at Anna. He didn't think that his cross-dressing fetish was anything to be ashamed of, but he was still rather concerned that Anna would renounce him because of it, so he was scrambling for a way to explain himself.
Much to his surprise, Anna charged over and jumped into his arms before winding her little arms tightly around his neck.
Blour's mouth gaped open slightly as he stiffened on the spot, and only after a while did he slowly wrap his arms around Anna as a vibrant smile appeared on his face.
"I was afraid that you'd left just like Grandpa. I don't want you to go," Anna sobbed.
"I'm not going anywhere, so don't you worry." Blour patted Anna's back in a comforting manner.
After hugging Blour for a while, Anna let go and wiped away her tears before turning and throwing her arms around Sally.
"Don't cry, Anna." Sally wiped away the tears in Anna's eyes, and stroked her hair as a smile also appeared on her face.
"I'm glad you're back." Mag appraised the two of them with a smile, then turned to the elves behind them, and said, "From the looks of it, you've done something quite praiseworthy as well."
Blour looked into Mag's eyes with a beseeching expression, and said, "Boss Mag, I have a request; can you please cook a meal for all of my brethren here? They haven't eaten for two whole days, and they've walked all the way here. I'll pay for all of their meals."
Sally was also looking at Mag with an expectant look in her eyes. She opened her mouth to say something, but swallowed her words in the end.
Mamy Restaurant was a high-end restaurant. It was always kept pristine and tidy, yet these elves had been locked up in underground cellars for a long time, so they were all quite dirty and, quite frankly, rather smelly. They had been concerned that they'd encounter other mercenary squads that would hunt them down in the past two days, so they had been traveling without rest, thereby affording them no time to wash. As such, it would be very understandable if Mag were to turn down this request.
Anna looked at all of these elves, and tears began to well up in her eyes again. She didn't know any of them, but she had already guessed that they had to have been captured by those abhorrent demons, while Blour and Sally were the ones who had saved them.
Looking at them evoked within her memories of her grandfather. Only then did she understand why her grandfather refused to allow her to be captured even at the expense of his life, and she turned around to look at Mag with tears swimming in her eyes.
Mag looked at the elven children with a sympathetic expression on his face. He couldn't see any noticeable wounds on their bodies, but the inferiority and fear in their eyes tugged directly at his heartstrings. What kind of torture had these children endured to become like this? Those demons really did deserve to die!
"Come in, I'll cook for all of you." Mag stepped aside with a gentle smile on his face, leaving the entrance open to everyone.
Blour extended a deep bow toward Mag as he said in a solemn voice, "Thank you."
"Thank you, Boss." Sally also nodded as she expressed her gratitude.
"Uncle Mag is the best!" Anna looked up at Mag. Tears swirled in her eyes, but she forced them back in the end.
The elves entered the restaurant; due to limited number of seats, many of the elves could only stand. Some of the children managed to share a chair in twos, while others carefully sat on the ground.
The pleasant warmth in the restaurant made the elves a lot more relaxed, and they began to inspect their surroundings with curiosity in their eyes. The beautiful decor, the warm chandeliers, the intricate wall art… Everything was so surreal in their eyes after that nightmarish ordeal.
Even though they were feeling slightly more relaxed, the elves were still extremely subdued and self-conscious. Even the elves who were sitting the ground were kneeling as they did so, not wanting to dirty the floor with their shoes or take up any extra space.
Mag went upstairs before quickly returning. He looked at Sally with a smile, and said, "Go and take a bath, Aisha. I've prepared a set of clothes for you in the bathroom."
Sally wanted to refuse as she shook her head. "I'm fine—" 
However, Mag cut her off as he continued, "With so many customers, I need your help. In your current state, I can't allow you to serve food in the restaurant."
Sally looked at her bloodstained clothes and nodded before quickly heading upstairs.
"Boss Mag, do you need a hand from me?" Blour asked.
Mag shook his head with a smile as he replied, "You can take a seat. I'd never ask for help from one of my customers."
"Is Big Sister Aisha back?" Babla had heard what was going on downstairs, and she looked at all of the elves in the restaurant with a surprised look on her face.
"That's right." Mag nodded as he turned to Babla with a smile, and said, "I'll be requiring your help as well."
Soon, one cup of water after another flew out of the kitchen before landing in front of the elves with unerring accuracy. The water in the cups didn't even ripple in the slightest in the process, and all of the elves could only look on with astonishment and admiration in their eyes.
After taking a bath, Sally came downstairs in a floral qipao, and her dazzling beauty stunned all of the elves present even further.
Inside the kitchen, all of the stoves had been switched on, and Mag was cooking multiple dishes like a master chef. In what seemed like the blink of an eye, several portions of Yangzhou fried rice were ready; the rate at which Mag was cooking was simply phenomenal.
"These dishes are ready to be served," Mag said as he cleaned his pot, while Babla stared at the 20 portions of Yangzhou fried rice on the counter with her mouth gaping in shock.
That was so fast! It took Babla a while to collect herself before she returned to her senses, and she pointed a finger at the portions of Yangzhou fried rice, sending them flying out of the kitchen toward the elves waiting outside.


In Chaos City on the Norland Continent, there is a strange restaurant.

Here, elves and dwarves share tables. Beastmen are prohibited from making a din, and giant dragons can only seat around the tiny square in front of the restaurant. Even demons have to bring their own stools…

But it is such a strange restaurant that has long lines outside every day.

Elves are stuffing kebabs, paying no mind to their manners; giant dragons are sitting around a hot pot, strainers in their hands; demons are eating nice-looking dango…

"There's no other place on this continent where you can find food like that! The boss here is a genius!" a customer provides such a review. Then, he gives a furtive look at the door. "Also, don't you think of kidnapping the boss away or dine-and-dashing, or you will suffer a tragic death."

"Eat, pay, or you will be beaten to death." says a cute little girl in her childish voice as she trots forward. A five-meter tall dragon shivers when it meets her eyes.

Xeon was being surrounded by three wolves who had questioning gazes except for Fanga, who only had a curios gaze.

Xeon couldn't tell them that he was a reincarnated dragon king, its just too unbelievable.

In the end, Xeon just told them about how he had just woken up in the middle of the woods, and didn't know why and why he knows their language. Xeon had no choice but to feign ignorance and at the same time be smart.

"Well, if you do not remember it is fine, but you will still have to find out soon."

"Yeah! Big Brother Xeon had no memories from the start? Isn't that lonely?"

"Are you sure you don't rememeber?" Argus, the King Wolf still had suspicions.

"Darling, there is no need to pester the poor thing."

"Yeah!" Both females were trying to stop his suspicions, in the end Argus could only sigh at the thought his wife and daughter could be tricked with sweet words. Yet unbeknownst to him, the Queen is still suspicious, she just had to bring the truth out of Xeon.

After that, Xeon was about to say goodbye to the three when all of a sudden Fanga invited Xeon.

"Yes, Xeon it's cold out here isn't it? Besides, Fanga has taken quite the liking to you." Anrosia, was the name of the Queen Wolf offered Xeon the exact same invitation but with a motherly voice behind it.

Xeon thought back to all the cold, wet and extremely hungry nights and smiled bitterly and had to accept. 

Xeon pictured a kingdom with castle walls, and civilized wolves, with many buildings. He pictures a single sized bed for him to sleep on and unlimited food.

But when they got there, Xeon now knows never to have Expectations fight Reality.

"Heehee, pretty cool right? Right?" Fanga was paws on Xeon's knees wagging her tail and looking up at his face expecting a praise.

There was a wall, it was sturdy and it could tank a blast from an Emperor Level but it just looked like boulders merged together forming a huge wall. Yes there was a bed and it was a single sized one, single sized for a wolf that is. And yes food is free, if you can hunt it. The kingdom looked like a normal kingdom but they didn't had much materials so they had to improvise. There were wolf civilians as well but they were not happy having a human in their kingdom, they even started to doubt their king.

"Uhmmmmm, is the walls supposed to look that unbalanced?" As stated before, Xeon doesn't know how to read the room nor fix it. 

"Hmph! Meanie!" As Fanga walked away pouting from Xeon, Argus harrumphed and told Xeon that their kingdom used to be as pretty as the dragon king's, War and raids did a number on it over the past few millennia. Not only that, there were big changes that instead of making the kingdom better, the civilians instead were unadapted to it, thus more criminals, traitors and other trouble makers. The kingdom was in shambles, it was unorganized, the civilians don't trust their King anymore, but their food stock is pretty stable considering the raids and robberies.

Argus was young when his father was killed by a human, ever since then he never trusted themand doesn't, he considered Xeon coming here as an insult but at the same time he thinks Xeon should consider coming here as mercy and a pleasure. 

When Argus became king at a young age it meant trouble. He didn't know how to insinuate laws and different ideas and projects for the kingdom, because unlike his subjects he adapts extremely quick to change.

Argus told Xeon about all the problems, hoping to see a smirk from Xeon, but to his suprise,he found a worried face with eyes of eagerness, eagerness to help fix this kingdom.

As they walked around the capital, there were stalls wherein wolves sell meat and wolf-made armor.

"Wolf armor!?" This was Xeon's first time seeing wolf-made armor. Seeing Xeon's expression Fanga couldn't help but smirk and brag about her kingdom.
"Heehee, I told you our kingdom is great!" Fanga said with a huge grin on her snout. Xeon wanted to know more so he and Fanga just kept talking.

When they got to the Castle it wasn't actually as bad as the outside, the walls had decoration, there were pillars and different floor materials and decor.

Xeon was actually impressed with all of it, if it wasn't so scuffed and damaged. Signs of wars and raids can be seen, scratch marks, arrow marks even explosion marks that indicate that magic was used.

Xeon was brought to his bedroom and it looked like a caveman's makeshift bedroom.

Everything was made of stone but carved, his bed,his chairs and table were all stone. His bed had a few animal pelts and fur, there was a bowl of water and raw meat on the table. 

Anyone would want their invitation to a kingdom be a beautiful kingdom, great room and there would always be a maid that would ask you if you would like to take a bath and after the bath they would ask you to save the kingdom and marry the princess, unfortunately this isn't that type of cliche story.

A maid did come, but she's not describable as a maid, shes a four foot tall wolf that's covered in scars and pulsating muscles and she wore what would seem to be iron wolf armor, unbeknownst to anyone, it was dwarven armor.

Dwarven metal, considered the second heaviest and strongest metal and for some reason it explicitly looks and is always mistaken for iron, and it is  almost on par with dragon blood metal and dragon scales.

Yes, she did invite Xeon for a bath, a bloodbath that is. Martha the top ranker at an academy who became a mercenary who was later then hired as a maid had hated humans, before she found out about the kingdom she used to be in a pack that lived in a den, they followed the laws of the beasts.

Eat what you can eat, kill what you have to kill, mercy for those who deserve mercy, protect those who you want to protect.

It's simple yet fair.

"Oi, Human, wanna fight?" Said Martha with a really wolf-like grin.

"H...huh?" Xeon yet again was clueless.

A light then shined on Martha's body, it shaped into a human-like form and out came a voluptuous 6 foot body, her curves weren't complimented well with her muscular arms and her abs joining it were her scars everywhere on her body, she has a pretty face but it was changed into a tomboyish figure due to the scars. Her whole body made her look like a woman who decided to become a strong mercenary.

After she transformed, she grabbed Xeon by the neck and dragged him to the arena.

"Uhmm, why am I doing this again?"

"Because, you're a human."

To Xeon he would agree, but if they killed humans using this baseless opinion wouldn't they be the same as them, wouldn't that make them on the same level of low as them, Xeon wanted to teach her a lesson.

"Weapons? No weapons?"

"None." Xeon answered nonchalantly as he raise his fists up.

Martha the same but it was a different stance. One hand flat and one fist, the hand pulled backwards torso level with the fist pushed forward with the same level. She looked like she was experienced in martial arts.

She gave a teeth-showing grin as she did this stance.

"Bring it."

In this universe and possibly every other universe, everyone has a chance to become strong.

And it then happened, A human became a God.
He fixed every problems, he killed all those who deserve to be killed and he removed every threat to his universe.

Because of that, every human now wants power.

Even the God wants more power, so he created something that would change his universe and every universe forever. He created a system.

A system that keeps track of your strength and helps you become stronger.

A system that has become the God’s downfall.

It turns out that the God has reached his bottleneck, which meant that if he trains, he would die.

Because of that, the God created another system, a system that will choose someone worthy of becoming the next god, a better and easier system.

After he created this system, he waited for someone to take his life, so that he can release the system.

And so it happened, a human who was assumed “ The first God Level Human” came and ended the God’s life.

The System was released and it looked for a host, after thousands of universes it had found one, and that host... is Xeon.




Xeon is but a talented dragon, who had a bottleneck at a young age and then overcame that bottleneck and became strong. He the settled for becoming a Dragon King while other were monarchs who competed in the Universe Martial Competition.



The Humans attacked and Xeon still defeated them, the humans from a powerful sect were furious and sent the tenth seat if their most powerful members.




The human came and clashed with Xeon but in the end Xeon lost and is now dead... is now dead... ISN’T DEAD!?




Xeon was reincarnated into a cell! Xeon only has one goal, and that is to become the strongest!

In a private jet, above Arizona…
They are on their way to San Antonio, on track to land shortly after 11 AM local time.
Sarah is smiling and shaking her head at the sight of Haru and Nala who are sleeping in their seats while holding hands. "I told them to get rest…"
"And I told you that they will be too excited to get any.", Aiden said and pulled Sarah to sit next to him. "Come and see options I picked for their makeover…" he handed her a laptop.
Sarah looked at the website of a salon in San Antonio which provides full-styling services.
"Haru will be super-handsome." Sarah approved. "Add request to take pictures and to send them to our email. Individual and couple's photos."
Her smile faded at the sight of options for Nala. "That dress is too short! How about… This one?"
Aiden objected. "There is nothing wrong with my pick. It's perfect for a nightclub."
"Yeah, your pick is perfect for a twenty-something girl who is looking for a hookup. Our Nala is sixteen and THIS dress is just fine…"
"That is too long, looks like grandma-style…" He saw that Sarah frowned and quickly clarified: "OK. Not grandma. I wanted to say that your pick is good for a formal occasion. This is a nightclub…"
Sarah and Aiden compromised on a sleeveless skater dress which ends just above knees and does not expose cleavage.
Ah, parenting is hard…

Four of them had lunch and then headed to a hotel to check-in Haru and Nala.
They got two connected suites.
Sarah looked at the interior and nodded in approval.
The lobby boasts massive crystal chandeliers and numerous sitting areas facing either one of the five fireplaces or huge windows overlooking the private garden owned by the hotel. From the entrance, you can see massive marble columns and decor that says how this hotel caters to upper class customers. The hotel offers a 24 hour room service, gym, spa, indoor swimming pool, five restaurants, and enclosed lounging area with a full bar which turns into a club during evening hours. 
Room interiors are vintage-inspired and have modern spa-like bathrooms. Each of the two suites they got has a spacious sitting area with a wet bar.
This hotel is owned by Morgan family, and it will be one of five that Penny will own after Jeff does his magic.
They went through the plan for Haru and Nala one more time before Sarah and Aiden headed back to the airport. Their mission for tonight is in Dallas.
"Take care of each other. Safety first…", Sarah was giving last minute advices like a concerned mother while Aiden almost dragged her toward the exit.
"Our current estimate is that we will be back at 3 AM. We will be in touch and let you know if we are delayed.", Aiden said as the last reminder before closing the door.
Sarah wanted to go back in and give few more reminders, but Aiden stopped her. He held her firmly around her waist, to prevent her from bolting back.
"Do you have anything new to say?"
Sarah shrugged. "No. But can additional reminders hurt?"
"No. But they can annoy. They heard it all. You will be a difficult mother to our kids…" Aiden squinted when he realized that he said too much. And he didn't mean it. She is not annoying or difficult and she will be a wonderful mother.
Sarah pressed her lips into a thin line while her heart grew heavy. She wants them to stay safe and he called her annoying and difficult. For some reason, that hurt more than it should and she knows that he didn't mean it for real. Maybe because he mentioned their kids… She told herself that she can't be so touchy, she should be stronger than this.
Aiden noticed the change in Sarah, and he could see that her expression shifted to a dispirited one, but it was only for a second before it became neutral. Cold.
He cursed himself internally when he realized that he hurt her feelings, and she is putting on a mask to conceal it.
Aiden stopped walking and pulled Sarah into his embrace. "I'm sorry. Please don't do this…"
"Do what?"
He sighed when he heard the coldness in her voice.
"This… don't hide that I hurt you."
"What do you want me to do?"
"Anything other than bottling it up. Pinch me, hit me, scold me… tell me that I'm despicable for talking without thinking and for hurting your feelings."
"What is the point in me telling you things you already know? It will just be annoying…" She pushed him away and got out of his hug. "Let's go. We have a mission…"
Two steps later, Sarah felt Aiden's arms around her.
He held her firmly from the back, preventing her from making another step.
"Sarah, love… I know that this is how you survived while I was not by your side. But I am here now. Don't hold it in, and don't hold back. If you are angry, or sad, or anything… let it out." Aiden walked around Sarah, to face her, and cupped her cheeks in his palms.
"I am here now… I am here…", he chanted between kisses.
Sarah relaxed and let him kiss her until he had enough and then he hugged her again.
Aiden moved away and looked at Sarah and his heart cracked when he realized that she allowed him to hold her only so that he feels better. Because her smile was unable to hide lack of emotions in her eyes.
He leaned toward her and rested his forehead on hers.
"I'm sorry for being stupid.", he said. "I promised to take care of you and to make it up to you and to make everything better, but I don't know how and it's killing me from the inside."
Sarah heard his words and they reached deep into her soul. She asked herself, what is she doing? She went through all the hardships and survived days while he was nonresponsive with a hope that he will come back and hold her and that they can be together again. And now that he is holding her, she is acting like it doesn't matter. Sarah is aware that she built a wall so that all the ugly stuff stays out, but that same wall is keeping Aiden out as well.
She wrapped her arms around him and held him tightly. "I'm sorry for keeping you out. I want to let you in, but sometimes… I don't know how."
Aiden held her tightly, happy that she spoke to him. Since he woke up, this is the first time that she acknowledged that she is keeping things bottled up. He observed that she is sharing her happiness and all the good things, but when she is sad or hurt, she keeps those parts to herself. Aiden fears that if he does not break through and gets Sarah to share her burden, she will lock herself in just how she did when they were in the cabin in Canada when she could not take it anymore (after he told her that they should split up and she saw those photos of him with random women). He does not want Sarah to go through that again.
Aiden got an idea…"How about we go to where everything began?"
Sarah looked at him and blinked. "Your apartment in Fairfield?"
He nodded and looked at her hopefully.
Sarah smiled. "I would love that… After this weekend?"
Aiden wants to go right away, but they have this mission going on, and then a weekend in Austin for Jeff and JoAnna to become Master and Madam officially, so her suggestion is reasonable. "Sounds like a plan."

"It is almost sinful to partake in this bounty." The representative uttered as Ves carefully opened a vintage nutrient pack and took out a sample for the man to try. "Yet don't mind if I do."
As soon as the foreigner from the Friday Coalition took a bite, he went into an instant ecstasy! "How divine! It is indeed as you claimed!"
Ves smiled as the representative took another bite and savored the sublime flavor. Thousands of years of fermenting had done the contents of the nutrient pack a lot of good!
"This isn't just any kind of regular nutrient pack." He boasted as he entered into salesman mode. "Look at the markings and serial numbers of the nutrient pack. Not only are they of genuine CFA stock, but they are also dated from before the Age of Mechs! If that isn't enough, they also originate from the long lost Starlight Megalodon!"
The representative studied the markings of the nutrient himself. "I was doubtful of your claims that you have somehow obtained the nutrient packs of a long-lost battleship of the CFA. The disappearance of the Starlight Megalodon is wracked with secrets. How could you possibly come into the possession of some of her nutrient pack supply?"
"I have my ways." Ves replied vaguely. "Due to some circumstances that I am not allowed to explain, I spent some time in the frontier. You can connect the dots from there."
"Very well. I'll take your entire supply. How much do you have?"
"With the opened pack included, I only have fifty-three nutrient packs left." Ves stated as he slapped his palm against the open crate in the vault.
"I am prepared to purchase all of them for 100,000 coalition credits each. That is a princely sum for a Brighter like you who came into possession of such a treasure."
"100,000 cols? Do you think I am mad!? As a connoisseur of nutrient packs, I know quite well that these vintage nutrient packs are worth much more than that! You should pay 100 million cols for them per pack! I'll even throw you a ten percent bulk discount if you buy all fifty-three of them at once!"
"Oh, please. Don't insult my intelligence, Mr. Larkinson. Aged nutrient packs are not impossible to acquire. 200,000 cols."
"Those are fake goods you are talking about. Nutrient packs that have undergone artificial time acceleration might be able to offer similar complex flavor profiles, but they are equivalent to mass-produced goods! My nutrient packs are different! They are exceedingly rare goods with a special origin and story behind them. If your patron adds them to their collection, they can show them off with pride that they own a piece of the Starlight Megalodon! Where else can you find such a treasure that your patron can comfortably display without attracting the attention of the CFA? 90 million cols!"
"That is a ludicrous amount for mere nutrient packs. No matter their age or history, nutrient packs serve as an economic way to supply ships and colonies with long-lasting survival food. They consists entirely of synthetic ingredients mushed together in an approximation of organic food! There are limits to how much one should pay for hem! 300,000 cols!"
Ves chuckled. "You and I both know that we are not talking about trading a bunch of nutrient packs here. Regardless of their original form, their meaning is completely different now due to their aging and their remarkable origin. These nutrient packs are valuable specifically due to those reasons and those reasons alone! This is your chance to buy a piece of history! And I will only charge 80 million cols each!"
The two nutrient pack connoisseurs continued to haggle back and forth for a while. Eventually, they came to an agreement to sell all fifty-three nutrient packs for the low price of 2.7 million cols.
Once they shook hands and signed a contract, the representative commanded a lifter bot to pick up the crate and depart the vault.
Before he left, the representative turned around. "These are the only nutrient packs from the Starlight Megalodon that you possess, correct?"
"I've left a couple for my own collection." Ves lied. "I can completely guarantee that you have obtained the remainder."
"Very well."
Once the representative left, he stepped outside the vault area and reached a position where he regained his connection to the LMC's internal network. He sent a call to Gavin.
"Gavin, please send in the next representative down to the vault."
"Okay, Ves." Gavin replied dubiously over the feed. "Why all of this song and dance? Why not meet them all at once?"
"I have my reasons." Ves replied before shutting off the connection.
He quickly returned to vault and entered another area where a single crate stood in the middle. Ves awaited for the next guest to be escorted to the vault by an attendant.
"Ah, Mr. Larkinson." The newcomer said, a woman this time. "From the drab decor of this underground area, I suppose you are about to show me your goods."
Ves smiled and opened the crate, revealing a number of nutrient packs. "You presume correctly, miss. Forty-six vintage nutrient packs, excavated straight from the missing Starlight Megalodon! As far as I am aware of, they are the only goods to have emerged from that legendary CFA battleship! Would you like to have a taste?"
"Please. How else will I be able to verify your claims? I am familiar with all of the historical CFA nutrient pack flavors, so don't think you can bamboozle me with counterfeits."
"I would never dream of doing so, miss."
Like a sleazy salesman, Ves repeated the same routine that happened a moment earlier. He hyped up the historical value of the nutrient packs. They were not mere vintage nutrient packs, but relics of the CFA!
Ves fared a little worse during the haggling that ensued. The woman was a shrewd negotiator and they only shook hands when they arrived at a price of 2.2 million cols per nutrient pack.
After waving the female representative off with her newly-purchased crate, Ves smiled sardonically to himself. "Well, I have four more chances to do better."
Now that he gained more confidence in the value of his vintage nutrient packs, Ves continued to meet representative after representative. Even though he outright lied about the fact that they received his entire supply of vintage nutrient packs from the Starlight Megalodon, Ves didn't think much of the consequences.
All he cared about right now was ripping off the representatives of profligate nutrient pack collectors from the Friday Coalition!
After completing six trades, each of which involved around fifty nutrient packs each, Ves completely traded away his entire stash!
Although it pained him a bit to say goodbye to those valuable nutrient packs, they only served to satisfy his vanity while they remained in his possession.
As a mech designer and the head of a company that was mired in debt, Ves needed money more than he needed to retain ownership of nutrient packs that served no practical use other than to serve as souvenirs of his last great adventure!
Aware of the value of the nutrient packs should Ves ever sell them to someone interested in them, he made the rational choice of converting his ownership of the nutrient packs into cold hard cash.
His heart still ached at the loss, though. His dismay was so obvious that Lucky floated down from his head and clung to his shoulders as if to soothe his pain.
"Meow."
"I know. They're just nutrient packs, but they're also a piece of history, you know? The Starlight Megalodon doesn't exist anymore, so there is no way that I can ever obtain more vintage nutrient packs from the ship."
"Meow!"
"Pff, is that what you care about? You want me to spend all of my earnings from these trades on rare exotics for you to stuff your face with? I still haven't entirely gotten over the fact that you ate away my CFA gear!"
"Meow-meow!"
"Even if you gained some fantastic new abilities, it's not cost-effective for me to feed you high-quality exotics just so that I can gain some couple of super gems!"
"Meoooow!"
Ves ignored Lucky's admonishment in favor of tallying his gains. Overall, by selling around three-hundred vintage nutrient packs in total at an average price of 2.9 miillion cols each, Ves earned 870 million cols in a single day!
Simply speaking, that was roughly worth around 87 billion bright credits! Even though Ves would lose a chunk of money from that massive sum due to transaction costs and fluctuating exchange rates that reflected the weakening of the bright credit, Ves still believed he would be able to supplement the LMC's coffers by at least 80 billion credits!
"The company's debt is a thing of the past once the money arrives!"
Not only that, but the LMC would also be sitting on a healthy surplus that it could spend on improving its security, expanding the Mech Nursery, setting up branch offices and subsidiaries in other states or apportion them to the future marketing campaign of his upcoming design!
"Worthless, heh?" Ves chuckled. "Maybe they're worthless to people like Lieutenant Stimmons. As for others, they are worth as much as the Barracuda!"
In fact, ever since he first cracked open a nutrient pack from the battleship during his stay on the Starlight Megalodon, he instantly realized their value. Not only would many individuals in the galaxy pay good money for them, they were also inconspicuous enough that no one in the CFA would care enough to take them away!
This was why Ves expressly prepared to smuggle out a bunch of vintage nutrient packs from the Starlight megalodon well in advance!
Ves laughed in exultation. "Hahaha! It all paid off!"
If Ves wanted to maximize his earnings, he would have put them up for offer at some auction house in the Friday Coalition. By inviting all the wealthy nutrient pack connoisseurs of the Friday Coalition to participate in the auction, it might have been possible to jack up the price for each vintage nutrient pack all the way to 1 million cols!
"That would have been far too conspicuous, though." Ves shook his head in regret.
Such a public auction might attract the attention of the CFA to him again. The last thing that Ves wanted to do was to give the powerful trans-galaction organization a reason to investigate him thoroughly!
In addition, by selling nutrient packs from a lost CFA battleship so blatantly, Ves would also be violating his obligation to keep the details of the Aeon Corona Mission a secret. While he didn't fear the Mech Corps all that much, it was an entirely different problem once Flashlight entered the fray!
"I should never get on the bad side of Flashlight!" Ves shuddered.
Perhaps Ves could have earned more money if he sought out more discerning buyers. Yet the longer he waited and the more potential buyers he sounded out, the greater the risk that some of them might take more direct action to obtain the nutrient packs!
It wasn't out of the question for them to send an overwhelmingly powerful force of mechs to Cloudy Curtain in order to rob Ves of his stash of vintage nutrient packs!
Although it sounded ludicrous for someone to go through so much effort for a bunch of nutrient packs, Ves knew that such incidents actually took place!
"The sooner I got rid of them, the better. They're hot goods as long as they remained in my vault."
In any case, earning almost a billion cols lifted a huge burden off his shoulders. It cost money to borrow money, so the LMC constantly troubled itself by trying to pay back all the interest from their loans.
While it wasn't exactly a disaster for Ves and the company if those loans continued to remain on the company's books, if Ves gained the ability to pay them back wholesale, why shouldn't he go for it? In any case, Ves did not plan for his company to embark in any major investments in the foreseeable future.
"Now that I've received a quota for the services offered by the BV alliance, I no longer need to save up a lot of money to prepare for the next mech generation."
Now that he secured the future of the LMC, Ves finally felt free to focus his main priorities.
Right now, that meant taking the next step in designing his mech!
"I'm almost done with overhauling my draft design. Once that's complete, I'll have to solicit feedback from Professor Ventag and others. I wonder how they will react to my vision?"


Humanity has conquered half the galaxy and the Age of Mechs reigns supreme!

Chapter 5: You are at once the quiet and the confusion of my heart

              I had never felt so many emotions over a woman than I've felt with Sophia. And I haven't even been with her for a whole day. The thing that bothers me most is when I see how men fall all over her. Seeing the store clerk and the men in line fawn over her was irritating. But when the gunmen focused on her, I hit the roof. Who knows what the men would have done to her if I hadn't taken them down. Then I see detective Colin Vane comforting her, and my stomach turns. It's just too much. Men are like moths to Sophia's flame. And as someone who is fighting his feelings for her, it's very difficult to resist smashing all of their faces in.

              Pulling into my apartment building's underground parking, I park in my spot and turn off the ignition. Sophia is fast asleep under the warmth of the blanket. I wanted to rip the card out of her hand when the detective mentioned that he gave her his number. Reaching out a hand, I run my thumb over her soft cheek and whisper gently. "We're here, Sophia." Sophia slowly opens her eyes and gives me a drowsy smile. "Micah." She whispers with a kittenish mewl, which makes my stomach tighten with desire.

              "Can you make it out of the car, or do you need help?" I ask with worry. She shakes her head and opens the door. Sliding out of my own seat, I meet her near the hood of the car and catch her when legs wobble a little. She reminds me of a child who has been woken from a nap. Taking her hand in mine, I lead her to the elevator doors and press the penthouse button.

I live in a large building in the center of Manhattan. I bought the suite a few years after I joined the Confradia. It's a beautiful apartment with two bedrooms and three bathrooms. The apartment has a large living area with ivory marble floors, wall to wall windows comfortable the living room furniture. My mother decorated a few years ago when she saw that my furniture consisted of a futon and a ninety-inch television. She made the apartment comfortable with its contemporary design, charcoal-colored cloth couch, and wrought iron tables. The dining room is a simple glass dining set with side chairs.

              A large glass wall separates the living area from the state of the art kitchen, and the kitchen cabinets are a gleaming obsidian color, gray marble countertops, and stainless steel appliances. There are several modern tapestries on the wall with sketches of human forms and few black leather chaise lounges facing the windows.

              Sophia steps in the center of the room and rests the blanket and my suit jacket on a nearby chair. I observe warily as she moves around the room, absorbing its decor. "Nice place." She says with a sincere smile. I'm surprised that she's not terrified or crying at what happened earlier. I've seen soldiers react the same after during a gunfight. They'll push the memory to the back of their minds and pretend it didn't happen. I guess it's a way to cope. Going along with it, I observe her looking around curiously.

              I'm surprised when she turns to the large, customized entertainment center in front of the large couch, and hones in on the pictures resting on the shelves. There are three pictures on the shelf. There was one of my father and me when I was a boy. That picture was taken the last time I saw my father. I was ten years old, and my father was heading overseas on a mission with his Marine unit. In the picture, my father is wearing his crisp, pressed uniform, with all of his medals, and I'm standing next to him wearing ripped jeans, a Snoopy t-shirt, and a Yankees baseball cap. The other picture was of my mother and me when I graduated from the Marine Corps. Like my father in the previous picture, I'm wearing a pressed uniform. The last picture is of my mother, Tate, Sophia, and me at my mother's wedding. I will never admit this out loud, but the only reason I put the picture up is that Sophia is in it, and I wanted something with her in it to look at.

              Sophia looks at all of the pictures attentively then turns back to me. "Is that your father?" She asks, taking the picture from the shelf and turning it towards me. Nodding my head, I stop next to her and take the picture from her hand. "Yeah. This was taken before he died." She nods her head and looks at the picture again. "He was very handsome. You look like him." I look at the picture for a moment and run my gaze over every angle of my father's face. I remember as a little boy staring at this picture for hours after my father died. Looking at it now, I can see the resemblance. My mother has always told me that I look like him minus the eyes. I have my mother's green eyes. My father had dark chocolate brown eyes.

              "How did he die?" Sophia asks with a note of caution. I look back at her to see that she's sincere in her question and place the picture back on the shelf. "He was on his second tour in Desert Storm. His unit was driving through a town when an IED hit his convoy. I was told that he died instantly." My mouth tightens with emotion. Even after all these years, it hurts to talk about it.

              Sophia must see my pain because she places her hand on my neck and turns my chin in her direction. "I'm sorry, Micah. I know what it's like to lose someone you love. At least yours did not leave you out of choice. My mother walked out on us." She mutters with a quiver in her voice. Her eyes gleam as she gazes down at the floor in contemplation. "I was so mad at her for leaving us. For a long time, I thought she left us because I was a bad daughter." She says this with a sad glint in her eyes. It's almost heartbreaking to see the pain reflected on her face.  

              Taking a deep breath, she utters softly. "But then I realized that it was her loss. And that dad and I were better off without her. Dad found Chelsea now. And your mom is really great."      

              Nodding my head, I take her hand and lead her to the guest bedroom. "Let me show you to your room." She doesn't argue as she follows me down the hallway. There are several doors here. One is for the guest room, the one across from it is my office, and the one in the center is my bedroom. Unlike other Confradia Assassins, I don't keep my weapons in a separate room. All of my weapons are in a secret compartment behind my headboard, which is secured by an encrypted security system. That was the only room I didn't let my mother decorate. I bought the furniture and installed the software myself. My mother definitely had a hand in decorating the guest room, though. The room is a bright blue color, with a large king-size bed, a white headboard, and a teal and gray comforter.

              Sophia steps into the room and moves towards the bed with a catlike grace, which makes my temperature heighten. I watch intently as she takes a seat on the bed and throws herself back with her arms stretched over her head. "Oh, this is so good." She says with a soft groan. Her dress strains against the mounds of her firm breasts and rises high over her thighs as she shifts comfortably over the bedspread.

              "Are you hungry?" I ask, trying to get my mind off how badly I want to crawl over her and kiss every part of her body.

              She rises from her stretch and shakes her head. "Not really. I just want a hot bath and some sleep right now." I nod in agreement and gesture to the én-suite doors. "The bathroom is right over there. There are toiletries and other bath things inside the linen closet." She nods her head and gestures to the bedroom door. "I should get my bags then."

              I shake my head as I make my way to the door. "Just go ahead and take a bath. I'll get the bags." Sophia waves a hand up with gratitude. "Thanks, Micah." Stepping out of the room, I head back to the elevators and walk to my car. Two minutes later, I'm back in my apartment with Sophia's satchel in one hand and her pink rolling bag in the other. My first mistake is that I didn't knock when I went into the room. I simply walked in, laid her bags on the bed, and nearly choked when I caught sight of her image from the bathroom mirror as she was stepping out of her dress. I couldn't help but stop and enjoy the view of her silken body, luscious breasts, and firm ass as she leaned down to turn on the water faucet. And I nearly swallowed my tongue when her hair spread down over her smooth back and slid sensuously over the stiff nubs of her nipples.

              Lust turns to empathy when she takes a seat on the edge of the tub and begins to sob. She looks lost and alone, and it makes me feel like hurting something. She was pretty brave earlier, whether she'd like to think so or not. Normal people don't usually have to deal with a gunfight in a gas station. And unless you've been in battle, having a gun aimed at your head or watching someone die can be very traumatizing. Unable to bear her pain any longer, I step into the bathroom and kneel before her. "Shh… it's okay, Soph." She sniffles a bit and straightens her spine with embarrassment. But her bravery is short-lived because she's suddenly sitting in my lap with her arms wrapped around my neck. My hand runs up and down her silky-smooth back, enjoying the feel of her skin and the comfort I am giving her.

 Keeping her sitting on my lap, I roll up my sleeves and reach over her shoulder to pour some bath salts into the rising bathwater. Sophia's tears subside, but she doesn't let me go. I know I should step out of the room and leave her alone, but it feels so good to hold her close. So Instead, I lift her into my arms, slide her into the rising water, and kneel down on the edge of the tub. She looks lost as she gazes at me from under her wet lashes. Her lips tremble slightly, and her chin quivers. "I thought that I was okay, and then I saw the water pouring… and…and it reminded me of all that blood." She says with a slight croak. She lifts her knees to her chest and rests her forehead on her knees with a bleak slump. Lifting her hair off her back, I push it to one side of her shoulder and lay a soft kiss on her temple. "It's okay to feel this way, Sophia. It means that you're a compassionate person. You should have never had to see something like that. You'll be okay, though. You're a very strong woman." Taking the sponge from the soap dish, I fill it up with soap and run it down her bareback. She sighs with relief and closes her eyes as I soap up her arms and legs.

              After a moment, she sits back and gazes into my eyes before she takes the sponge from me and slides her hand over my tattooed forearm. "You have tattoos?" She asks with fascination. Nodding my head, I slide my hand from under hers and lower the sleeves. It's not that I'm embarrassed by them. I'm just not ready to reveal the intimate nature of them.

              Sophia's eyes dim at my gesture, but she doesn't comment. Instead, she takes the sponge and whispers. "I'll finish bathing myself." I remain kneeling down with my elbows on the edge of the tub for another moment. I want to apologize, but I know that there is no point because there is no explanation that I can give her that wouldn't be too revealing.

              With a clenched jaw, I give her one last longing look and rise from the floor. "Your bags are on the bed, and my bedroom is the one with the red double doors in case there's anything you need," I say before I walk away. I need a drink!

She had gone to Milan to get hold of that vintage piece of house decor at a crazy enough price. And it would suffice to say that he treasured it. 
His peace was disturbed by a loud knock on the front door. Groaning he went up and opened the door. In the doorway, Kai was standing supporting an unconscious and broken nosed Timo.
Ray was horrified at the scene in front of him. It took him a full minute to form a coherent sentence, "What happened to him?" 
Kai shook his head and pulled their eldest brother closer, "Let's go in. He is heavy." He breathlessly told Ray.
Ray quickly went forward and lent a helping hand to his struggling friend. Kai was thankful for Ray's thoughtfulness. They dragged the unconscious man inside the quiet house. By the time they made him lie on the couch, Timo was starting to come back to his senses.
Before they could catch their breaths, Vic came barging in. He came looking for Ray regarding some business but he was shocked to see their eldest brother-his idol- hurt.
"What the hell happened to him? Who did this?" Vic forgot his purpose and started to question his brothers present in the room. He was livid.
Kai shrugged his shoulders helplessly, "I too exactly don't know how or why but-"
"Ow! My nose!" Timo interrupted their conversation with his painful groan. He sat up with some obvious difficulty and looked around in confusion.
"Morning sleeping beauty." Ray quickly found some tissues and gave them to Timo, "Here hold this tissue to your nose. I don't want my carpet being spoiled by your incessant bleeding." 
"Oh, I wouldn't dream of spoiling your carpet." Timo sarcastically replied and he then winced in pain again as moving his facial muscles was a big feat with a broken nose.
"Kai, who did this to him?" Vic who was quiet all the while erupted again. He needed answers.
Kai was thoughtful for a moment before answering, "Remember that girl who gate-crashed our shoot few years back?"
"That beautiful one? Didn't she look frail?" Ray voiced out his confusion.
And as to why they remembered her clearly, it was because Timo hadn't let them forget her. He thought he was subtle but the guys knew him for a long time and understood him better.
Kai shook his head, "Believe me she still looks weak and frail but I am sure she broke our elder brother's nose." He too was finding it hard to wrap his head around the idea. 
"But why?" Vic was wise enough to ask the question which was in everyone's mind.
All of them looked at Timo for an explanation. Cheeks painted red in embarrassment he retold the events again.

The thief lay groaning and cursing at his feet. With a victorious smile on the face, Kai turned around to look at Shew. 
She looked pale and was breathing shallowly. 
"Well now wasn't that heroic?" Timo tried to brag to get her mind off the events that had scared her.
He had not expected it to have a negative effect. Shew looked directly into his eyes. Her brown orbs were filled with fury. 
"How dare you!!" 
And she had in a swift move grabbed hold of his shirt collar and punched him hard in the face twice. Her blows were strong and he had instantly fallen to the ground unconscious with a profusely bleeding nose. 
She had then searched his pockets and fished out his mobile phone. Fortunately, it wasn't locked. she dialled the last number from call log and luckily it connected to Kai.
Within minutes Kai reached the spot where Shew was waiting with an unconscious Timo by her side.
"What happened to him?" Kai was startled.
"Are you sure that your friend isn't a retard?"
Shew replied to a question with a question. Her gaze was filled with annoyance.
"Why?" Kai was like a lost puppy between them.  
Shew waved her arms angrily, "Just take him away. Also, tell him to stay away from me."
Kai was a bit taken aback by the ferocity in her voice, he swallowed before timidly nodding, "O-ok."

The silence in Ray's living room was deafening. 
"So you saved her?" Vic asked.
"And she knocked the daylights out of you?" Ray added.
Timo weakly nodded yes to both the questions. 
It was completely silent in the room until all the occupants sans Timo burst out into laughter. He was all set to murder them all after 10 minutes of continuous laughter. 
Mui came looking for his gang and saw three of them rolling on the floor laughing and one glaring at them holding a tissue at his bloodied nose.
"Well?" He raised an eyebrow at them all
"Our eldest brother here was beaten up by a girl." Vic calmed down enough to fill Mui in on the recent happenings. He was slightly out of breath.
"Why?" Mui asked once again calmly.
"Because he saved her." Kai said before breaking down into laughter once again.
And they started to laugh again. Shaking his head at their silly antics Mui went in and brought out the first aid kit to patch up Timo. 
He was almost happy that at least one person was worried for him until.
"Don't get beaten up again bro, cuz next time I will join them." Mui dashed all good feelings Timo had for him.
Timo removed the tissue for a moment to make a smart comeback but one teeny-weeny drop of blood fell on the vintage carpet. 
Ray's eyes flew wide open staring at the spot. His laughter turned into tears in the flicker of an eye. 
Timo sat confused and angry while the remaining three immensely enjoyed their two of the friend's hopeless states.

They met by pure chance. 
They fell for each other in that single encounter.
This thing called 'love at first sight' defies logic. But who would dare tell this to Timo?
He has been waiting for that one person for five long years. 
Whether she remembers his existence in the hurricane that her life brings her and sets her on a path of no return is yet to be known.

It was dead silent in the banquet hall when Si Yiyan led Wen Xinya inside.
The banquet hall was bright and well furnished with the incredible opulence of vintage European decor. The walls were covered with mosaic tiles which were made up of small pieces of colored glass. There were also stone-carved murals on the walls which had been polished to perfection and looked extremely posh and extravagant. The murals illustrated iconic stories from the Bible, which were popular in Europe. They also added a religious touch to the banquet hall.
The banquet hall was beautiful, extravagant and refreshing. Everyone indulged in the beauty of the decor.
Wen Xinya and Si Yiyan were both wearing masks. Si Yiyan was wearing a silver, crocheted dragon mask which symbolized his status as the leader of Xiasi Group, whereas Wen Xinya was wearing a matching crocheted Phoenix mask.
Si Yiyan was dressed in a snow-white shirt underneath a gray suit and a tie that matched the color of her gown. He had a lavalier on his chest which matched her jade jewelry. The two of them entered arm in arm, just like a loving married couple.
Everyone was extremely curious about who Wen Xinya was and all eyes were on her the moment she stepped foot into the hall.
Sensing her displeasure, Si Yiyan glared at the people around him and scanned his surroundings before saying to her softly, "Just ignore them. I don't ever bring a female date with me to events. That's why they're curious about you."
Having already guessed the reason, Wen Xinya chuckled and said, "They must be wondering which lucky girl has managed to capture the heart of the Xiasi Group's leader, and thinking that I'm incredibly blessed."
Si Yiyan jested. "Do you want me to tell them that I'm actually the lucky one who won your heart?"
Wen Xinya burst into laughter and looked up at Si Yiyan's eyes' clear glow that was brighter than crystal.
Si Yiyan felt a strong urge to remove the mask on her face and take a look at her pretty face. However, the mask hindered others from ogling at her beauty, though he could not admire her either.
