No matter what life may hold in store for us, time runs out irretrievably. We meet new acquaintances, our smile comes back from time to time and even if we are not able to forget the past, we do our best to move forward in the direction we have chosen. 

This is what Chad, now 22 years old, found out when he began studying law at a university in Kansas City. 

To ensure that the injustice he witnessed that day will never happen again, he has decided to become an honest judge who will work in favour of the victims and show no mercy to monsters that hide under human guise.

This trial of July 2014, has shocked public opinion. He, who was in the front row, shouted at the judge, asking him to review his unjust decision so that his Emma could rest in peace. 

He shouted and pushed away those who were trying to calm him down and all he got was to be thrown out of the courtroom. 

The lawsuit was over, so it didn't matter to him, however, confused and more furious than ever, he tried to break into the office of this crooked judge many times.

Of the seven defendants, the heaviest sentence was imposed on Louis, who was responsible for the death of his Emma. 

The murderer was reprimanded and he was sentenced at twenty hours of community service work to pay his debt to society, while the others were immediately released.  

In the small room of the apartment he rents with another law student, Chad is deeply immersed in a thick legal book. In fact, he has made sure to clear his mind so that his eyes never leave his desk.

When he raises them without realizing it, he sighs with relief. Fortunately, the dreaded evening of April 14th is over. It is now more than five years since the one who was his girlfriend closed her eyes forever. 

Chad gets up from his chair. He stretches his aching back, he's massaging his temples to relieve his aching head and considering that it is more than time to rest, he decides to brush his teeth before going to bed. 

The young man walks to the door without making a sound. Sharing an apartment saves money, but it also has many disadvantages. 

His family is not rich enough to allow him to occupy an apartment on his own, but his High School grades were good and thanks to his excellent basketball skills, the university has offered him a scholarship that allowed him to continue his studies at a lower cost. 

Chad shakes his head. He has no right to complain. About to reach the door of his room, he stops. 

Something makes him very uncomfortable. This feeling is no different than when someone is watching you. Under these conditions, even if your senses do not allow you to discern the voyeur, what some call the sixth sense sometimes alarms you. 

His apartment's on the fourth floor, so who'd be watching him? This is ridiculous. 

Even though he's thinking this way, faced with persistent discomfort, he's about to turn his head towards the window but he feels his smartphone in his pocket vibrating. 

Chad takes his phone out of his pocket and knowing the identity of the only person who can call him at this hour, he smiles and then he brings it closer to his ear.

"Amy, I was just thinking about you." 

Chad, whose thoughts have been directed to his ex-girlfriend all evening, laughs as he hears the cheerful voice of the one who's now occupies a little part of his heart.

"Okay, okay, but will you spend the night with me tomorrow night?"

His words just left his mouth when this uneasiness becomes a blood-curdling fear. He turns as quickly as he can to his bedroom window. 

Chad is relieved to see it's locked and nothing can be seen through it. The stress he feels every year at this time must have gotten the better of his nerves. Convinced by his explanation, he sits down on his bed.

"No, I've already told that you're the only one I love. I've spent a very gloomy evening studying and if you want proof, come and join me at the apartment."

An angry scream of sadness that is neither human nor animal tears the silence of the night. 

On a roof 330ft from Chad's window, someone violently rips a thick bundle of paper into four. 

Two yellow eyes filled with fury watch the small room in which a slightly frightened young man has removed his smartphone from his ear. 

The angry being crushes the so-called declaration of love of the one who swore to love him for eternity. Calmer, eyes filled with sadness, the being looks towards the 260ft that separates him from the ground.

It only takes one step aside before his material form gives way to a shadow that mixes with the darkness of the night.

04:15am

What could that have been earlier? It might sound like a wounded animal moaning, but that terrifying scream was far too loud to be that of a animal. 

Moreover, here we are in a city in the United States, not in the African savannah, thinks Chad, who for some reason is convinced that he is the one to whom this complaint was addressed. 

The sound of a window shattering into pieces takes the young man out of his thoughts. He grabs the baseball bat at the foot of his bed and rushes out of his room. 

In the small living room of the apartment, he finds his roommate Kenneth, who is already there, picking up something from the floor.  

"I don't know the identity of the girl you've made angry enough to make her commit this some kind of madness, but look, this is your signature. I'm warning you. Don't count on me to help you pay off that window. You're guilty, so you'll be responsible for all costs related to repairs. Good night, Chad."

Chad sighs. He doesn't have the money to pay for this damage, and if he had that much money, he'd use it to buy a working laptop. 

Chad waits for Kenneth to come out of the living room where the night breeze blows in to browse through the torn pages.

After winning a Miss contest for a magazine, Irina, 14, is spotted by an agent from the United States.

A little groggy from all the upheavals that have taken place in her life in a short space of time, the young girl, who until then had known only precariousness, nevertheless leaves her native Poland for the gigantic country of freedom, where everything is only disproportionate. 

If fashion is the stuff of dreams, if money is supposed to satisfy all desires, and if she has often wanted to wear pretty dresses, Irina will soon realise that the world she has entered is not a fairy tale.

 "Qin Guan, you’d better give some thought to his suggestion. If you look down upon the university theater club, I could recommend you to the actor union on Broadway."
 "Large theaters have strict regulations, but if you pass the test of the union or get approval from famous actors in the circle, you’ll do great things on Broadway."
 Qin Guan shook his head at Wendy’s kind words. Although Broadway played an important role in the entertainment circle in the US, it was only a small part. Considering their limited audience, both musicals and dramas were in an awkward position.
 Besides, long-term rehearsals and tours did not fit in Qin Guan's schedule.
 Out of respect for Wendy, Qin Guan didn't try to mess with her. He gave her a detailed explanation instead.
 Different people had different aspirations. Wendy loved Broadway, but she would never force others to love it. The reasonable girl gave up her plan to convince Qin Guan.
 Qin Guan and Xu Xiaoxiao left, ignoring the light in Wendy's eyes.
 Xu was a cunning guy though. Although he had an idea about Qin Guan's plan, he thought Qin Guan shouldn't let that chance go so easily. He tried to explain the benefits to Qin Guan.
 Being a member of the theater club was a unique experience.
 "Hey, dude! Don't be silly. You’ll be an important member of the club. You are even better than the students from the Art Department. It will be a rich experience that will get you offers from big companies in the future. You shouldn’t say no to that."
 Qin Guan grinned at Xu. "Who cares? I’ll return to China after I graduate."
 Xu was astonished by his splendid smile. He followed Qin Guan, thinking of the old photos his grandfather often caressed in his spare time. "Is China really that good?"
 Qin Guan nodded firmly. "Of course. It is perfect!"
 "We have the financial center in New York, there’s Hollywood in Los Angeles, and the iron planes in Seattle."
 "We have everything in China. We also have nothing. You have to experience it yourself. I’m inviting you to China. You should come to my home court."
 Xu fell silent. He secretly decided that he would go to China someday. I’ve heard that Chinese people can't even afford tea...
 Time passed peacefully. Qin Guan had gotten used to the homework by now. He was leading a regular life.
 The routine tests would be over at 12:00 every day. Then the papers would arrive in the afternoon. Qin Guan was fully prepared, so he saved a lot of time each day.
 He decided to execute his plan in Manhattan. It was not his fault he would have to work part-time one month after arriving in Manhattan.
 They spent 3,000 dollars a week, and it cost a week’s wages for Cong Nianwei to have a haircut on Times Square.
 She didn't ask for a lot. She simply cut her hair shorter. Qin Guan couldn’t help but use the word "f*ck" to describe the prices in New York.
 John invited Qin Guan to the LEE headquarters in Kansas. Thanks to his recommendation, the designer had sent an invitation to Qin Guan.
 After checking his schedule, Qin Guan apologized to John. "I have only one day off in October. Your launching event will still be in the early stages. I have no time for that."
 John roared angrily, "This is about your future development! I have made so much effort to get you this chance! New York Fashion Week will take place in late October. It’s among the top four international fashion weeks. If you get that chance, you won't need to go to f*cking auditions!"
 "You are an Asian stranger in New York. Nobody will be interested in you!"
 Unconsciously, Qin Guan recalled the old professors back at his college. If they knew that their best student skipped classes for a part-time job, they would hang him upside down.
 Sometimes, giving up was necessary. Qin Guan took a long breath. "John, I started my career from being a nobody. I’ve been to auditions before. Why couldn’t I do it again? You know how strong I am. Believe in me! I’ll see you at New York Fashion Week."
 Then he hung up, feeling very ambitious.
 John looked at the silent receiver, grinding his teeth. He was at a bar, and the phonograph was playing soft music. A girl in a short skirt smiled at him.
 "May I treat you to a glass of wine, honey?"
 In the flirty night, John temporarily forgot about his Asian fairy.
 Qin Guan prepared his resume and sent his homework to Prof. Martin. He wondered if there was a place for him on Times Square, where the most designers and clothing companies gathered from all over New York.
 New York gave the impression that it was the center of finance and press. Actually, that was only part of the truth. The city had important ports, but it was also the largest fashion center in America.
 That contradicting combination was perfectly embodied on Times Square and Chelsea Street.

The Celtics center, Fred, wiped the sweat from his head. He looked at Gray and there was a hint of fear and helplessness in his expression.
Fred couldn't help but think of a night from a few years ago. It was the NCAA final and the University of Florida team, led by Fred, played against the University of Kansas team, led by Gray. The University of Florida won that game, but Fred was defeated by Gray.
Fred still remembered how invincible Gray was on that day. Gray could handle two opponents single-handedly. He easily defeated Fred and another player inside the three-point line.
This had left a scar on Fred's memory.
Fred was currently an all-star center. His partner, who had also been beaten by Gray, had also become an all-star. Both of them had been named "Best Defensive Player" by the NBA. Meanwhile, the talented center who defeated them in the NCAA finals had fallen prey to injuries.
After many years, Fred had forgotten about the opponent that embarrassed him that day. Now, Fred saw him again. It was a version of Gray in extremely good condition.
It was as if he was the Gray from years ago, the Gray that defeated him with just one hand.
Being both an all-star defender and a center was rare. He was one of the most talented players even when he was younger. He could take on two opponents at the same time. The only word that could describe him was "terrifying."
On the court, the Celtics used a pick-and-roll tactic. After the pick-and-roll, Gray changed his position to guard against the Celtics' point guard.
The Celtics' point guard sped up, rushed to the free-throw lane, and stuck to Gray. He then maneuvered and attacked from the rim. Right as the ball left his hands, Gray smacked the ball with one big slap. He knocked the ball right out of the air.
It was a beautiful block!
Unfortunately, this was the Celtics' home court. The fans wouldn't cheer when their own players' shots were blocked.
On the bench, Arnold, the Celtics' coach, frowned. He had not expected Gray to block that shot.
Arnold's coaching record in the NBA was quite good, but his basketball coaching career started in the NCAA. He had been the head coach at Butler University for more than a decade. Coaching the Celtics was his first coaching job in the NBA, so he had not experienced the era when the centers had dominated the NBA.
It was because of this that Arnold could not come up with any good counters when facing Gray.
"Is another super center going to emerge?" Arnold licked his lips.
In the NBA, there had been no incredible centers for over a decade. People had forgotten how terrifyingly good the centers had been. A young coach like him didn't know how to deal with these centers because he did not have any experience playing against them.
"So what if he is another great center? The NBA is no longer the same as it was a decade ago! The small ball playstyles are popular in the NBA right now. The era where a center can defeat an entire team is over!" Arnold said in disdain.
A player from the Clippers picked up the ball outside the three-point line. He was facing off against a defensive player. He suddenly sprinted forward and broke through his opponents' defensive line.
The Celtics' defensive player immediately moved back. He tried to stop him from moving forward. Another defender on the other side was preparing to move in to give some assistance.
The Clippers' player suddenly stopped, jumped, and his body began to lean back.
A sudden stop and a step-back jump shot. It was beautiful. It was like it came out of a textbook.
After the ball left his hands, it moved in a perfect arc in the air. It then went straight into the basket.
A perfect sudden stop and step-back jump shot. It was picture perfect!
"Nathan Hall!" The live commentary said the name of the player who scored in a low voice.
Arnold, the Celtic head coach, subconsciously looked at that player's stats. It was at this point he realized he had forgotten about this person.
The terrifying "Yellow Mamba" Hall from the past!
The mamba was a poisonous snake. An African-American shooting guard who had ruled the NBA in the past had been given the nickname "Black Mamba." Hall had the nickname "Yellow Mamba" because his skin color was slightly lighter than the legendary "Black Mamba." In terms of skill, he was similar to the "Black Mamba." His height, weight, basic fundamental skills, shooting skills, and physical condition were all ideal. He was well-balanced in every aspect. He had almost no weaknesses. The picture-perfect sudden stop and step-back jump shot was similar to the "Black Mamba."

Wood, Gray, plus Hall, super centers and super guards. The Clippers' lineup should not be underestimated! Fortunately, the Clippers are in the Western Conference. Unless in the playoffs' finals, we won't play against one another again. Let the teams in the Western Conference worry about them!
On the other bench, Dai Li was looking at Hall's statistics.
"Hall has scored more than 15 points in recent games. Although he did not have many chances to shoot, he has been able to score consistently," Cassel said, standing beside Dai Li.
"He has a lot of offensive methods. He is especially consistent with the sudden stop and step-back jump shot. I think we can give him more chances to shoot. Although he has a good field goal percentage, I don't want him to only focus on shooting the ball," Dai Li said.

If Hall was willing to use those technically difficult moves, the terrifying "Yellow Mamba" had been reborn!

In the next game, the Clippers played against the Lakers at their home court.
Although it was their home court, in actuality, the Staples Center was also the Lakers' home court.
The Lakers were one of the most important teams in the NBA. They had the well-deserved spot of top dog in the L.A. sporting scene. The Lakers had more fans than the Clippers, so even when the Clippers played against the Lakers as the home team, the number of Lakers' fans were much higher than the Clippers'.
This was actually quite unfair. Both teams had to play against each other four times a year. They each got two games as the home team. The Clippers' home court was also the Lakers home court. This basically meant that the Clippers had two fewer games as the home team.
The Lakers had been rebuilding their team in the recent seasons. Their performance had degraded greatly. They were getting less and less attention from their fans. On the other hand, the Clippers had been signing megastars. This created a lot of interest from the fans. The Clippers' recent performances had been quite good. They were currently ranked second in the Pacific Division. They were in the top eight of the Western Conference. They had a chance to make the playoffs. Under these circumstances, the Clippers were in a much better situation. There were just as many fans at the stadium for the Clippers as there were for the Lakers.
Before the start of the game, the Clippers decided to increase the opportunities for Hall to shoot. Wood, as the point guard, would strictly stick with the decision by the coaching staff. In fact, for a point guard, it was more important to aid in the team's offense than to score. If his teammates could contribute to the attack, it was easier for Wood to not attack by holding the ball and rushing to the basket to meet the strong defenders inside the three-point line all on his own.
Hall did not disappoint his coach or teammates. He broke through the defense by continuously changing directions. Together with the sudden stop and step-back jump shot, he was able to completely decimate the Lakers' defense.
"Swoosh!"
It was another sudden stop and step-back jump shot. As the basketball went inside the basket, the fans screamed deafening cheers.
It wasn't just the Clippers' fans who cheered, but the Lakers' fans began to cheer as well. They cheered because they saw a picture-perfect sudden stop and step-back jump shot. It was something that was absent from basketball games for a long time.
The top NBA player, the "Black Mamba," had used this picture-perfect sudden stop and step-back jump shot to bring the Lakers to the playoffs and, ultimately, to win the championship multiple times. Since his retirement, many Lakers' fans thought that they would never see this picture-perfect shot again.
Now that the "Yellow Mamba" had been resurrected and he was using the same shot, it triggered a sense of nostalgia for the fans. It also ignited the fans' fervor.
The city of Los Angeles had a long history of sports. There were many people who grew up and grew old with the Lakers. There were many longtime fans at the current game. It was easy to trigger these longtime fans' fervor.
At a time where small ball playstyles were popular, the fast switch between offensive and defensive was very enjoyable. The three-pointers that were impossible to make marveled people again and again. However, in Los Angeles, in the hearts of this generation of fans, it was not as good as seeing that picture-perfect sudden stop and step-back jump shot. It represented the youth of a generation. It was the memory of an entire generation!
Even if the actual shot itself wasn't good for the Lakers, the memory was still beautiful.
Those beautiful memories were like a person's first love. It would always remain beautiful in a person's mind. It was something that was hard to give up. In fact, if one were the look at the picture of the girl they liked, they would realize that the girl was actually not as beautiful one remembered her to be.

In this game, Hall felt that he had a good handle on the ball. He scored 35 points. The Clippers beat the Lakers.
The next day, the headlines of sports papers were dominated by one headline: "Resurrection of the Yellow Mamba!"


How could a poor graduate student without any background or connections become successful? With a coaching system? An upgrade? This is not a computer game, but real life we’re talking about!

The moment when the two guards of the Bardic University gate saw the gang who is accompanied by another guard, their demeanor immediately became more attentive than before as they eyed the strangers who have displayed intent on entering the university grounds.
But upon seeing the rose badge that the elf and the young girl are bearing, the pair of guards conducted themselves appropriately to not offend the nobles of the group.
The guard escort gestured courteously for the gang to wait at their spot as he approached his fellow guards to talk to them about the gang's circumstances here at the University.
"Hey, Floyd." The guard escort initiated the conversation with one of the university guards. "I bring the esteemed noble elf, Lord Gray Allister, and his regarded companions who the Headmaster are expecting today."
"Ah, so that's him." The university guard said in acknowledgment. "If that's the case, then they may all be granted entry to the university and report to the gracious Headmaster without delay."
With their entry secured, the guard escort smiled at the gang and motioned for them to enter.
One of the university guards then opened the gate, an invitation for Gray and his companions to finally proceed inside. Indeed, the gang's excitement skyrocketed as they can't wait to delve behind the stone walls and view the whole Bardic University with their own two eyes.
Taking their first step, the gang could not help but widen their eyes with utter amazement at the marvelous sight that greeted them, the sight of three buildings in its remarkable glory that faced towards one another in a plaza-like setting.
Speaking of plaza-like, indeed the university grounds is truly comparable to one. Green, luscious grass makes up the entirety of the outdoors with few trees adding to the ambiance of the beautiful nature. The most notable sight however is a huge golden statue of a musical figure in the very center. The figure depicted a handsome human male playing the lute. He is shown to be wearing a fashionable doublet that is close fitting with baggy sleeves. The said clothing also has an elaborate design with a pattern of flower embroidery that is certainly eye-catching. The man's lower garment is a braies pants with a pair of pointed boots that reached his knees. 
No doubt, the statue itself is sculpted by a carver who mastered his trade, evident by the perfect attention to details that was made into the golden sculpture showing no signs of physical degradation. It's absolutely a sight that many won't definitely miss.
Numerous bards are also noticed all over the university grounds with their extravagant attires that are only worn by a performer of the oratory and musical arts. Some who are in groups appeared to be practicing for some sort of play, attested by the way that they dramatically act as they interact with one another while a person oversees the entire practice. The other ones who preferred to be alone simply minded their own business as they play their musical instrument in a perfect solace, basking at the fresh outdoor winds with a state of absolute tranquility, exhibited by the soothing expression on their faces.
The group's attention aimed next to the buildings, most conspicuously at the one that's directly in front of them and the biggest of the three, akin to an extravagant three-story mansion owned by the richest of the nobility. From the outside where the group stood, the university looks very aesthetic and pleasing to the eyes. Its architectural design consisted mostly of refined wheat silver-colored bricks that only add to the exquisite display with spruce wooden decorations. Small, rectangular windows made up most of the building, and the roof is of the A-frame type.
The guard escort who's still accompanying them told that the building that they are seeing is the Academic Building of the University. This is where the lectures about history, rhetoric, and music are all discussed and the office of the faculty, Dean, and Headmaster is also located inside. 
The second building at the left is the Grand Auditorium, the building where the most talented of Bards would perform on the monumental stage. The auditorium is capable of accommodating thousands of audiences who wished to witness the performances and plays. 
The third building at the right is simply the dormitory for both faculty and students alike. It's a fairly huge four-story manor to accommodate many of the occupants who are currently involved with the university. The guard told the gang that this is where they'll be staying as instructed by the Headmaster.
Now that Gray and the others had a general idea of the whole area while on their brief tour, the guard escort guided the quarter to the Academic building where they'll be meeting the Headmaster.
The Bards in their vicinity wonder who the new visitors are. Many thought along the lines that they must be new students while others thought that they are simply tourists or visitors who wished to explore the place. 
Most of the men however are could not help but eye at Lily, who they thought is a stunning young lady with the perfect figure and an angelic face. Some of the women also set their gaze at Gray and Isamu, where they thought that that the pair is simply dashing as fit to their status. Gray being a Baron with his dignified elven features that is almost similar to the handsome Dean of the University that they all revere, Luthais Faelar, and Isamu as a gallant Knight displaying his set of imposing full plate armor. Regarding Selena Allister, all of the Bards surely thought of her as a cute adorable little girl that deserved praise and attention.
Indeed, the Bards' curiosity could not help but be piqued at the members of the gang who all look unique and diversified.
The gang tried their best to pay no mind on the stares that they received and opted to focus on the direction at where the guard escort is currently leading them. In a few moments after dealing with the scrutinizing eyes of the Bards, the quartet finally arrived inside the Academic building, much to their relief. The unnecessary attention was just too much, especially when they just arrived here.
Similar to the Warrior's Guild, the first thing that greeted the four inside is the reception hall of the building. 
If the outside was grand, then the gang is sure as hell that the very inside at where they are standing currently is unmistakably grander. A majestic hallway welcomed them in their line of sight, adorning an orange carpet on the floor that lead to the lobby where a certain beautiful young woman is seen behind the counter. The said woman seemed to be occupied with her own work, writing something on a notebook of hers.
Gray deemed that it was the right time for the guard to depart from the group. The guard was finished with fulfilling his task of escorting the gang to the building and his services are no longer needed. Of course, the gang unquestionably appreciated the guard's gesture of assistance to them.
"Thank you for accompanying us, fair guard, but we will be fine on our own from here on out and we don't want to take more of your precious time." Gray smiled with gratitude as he proved it by conjuring a pouch of 60 gold from his Inventory and gave it to him. "Here, something for your troubles. I suppose that's enough for about two to three drinks or so at the local tavern."
"I thank you, my lord." The guard positively isn't going to say no to gold as he graciously accepted the elf's reward. After all, gold is gold and every single bit of it counts. He would be a hypocrite if he would answer otherwise. Additionally, this also led to the completion of his own quest that was given to him by the System when he was tasked to escort the gang. "Should you require any further assistance, all you have to do is to ask the lovely young lass at the counter, Miss Penelope Germaine."
"Got it." Gray gave the man a thumbs up.
After receiving his gold, the guard politely begged his leave to the gang and went outside in the opposite way, going back to the gate between High Quarter and Low Quarter to resume his original lookout duty.
Heeding the guard's advice, Gray and his companions wasted no time and approached the receptionist at her work station. The gang saw that the receptionist is still occupied in her notebook and seemed to have not yet noticed them.
Gray led the conversation as always and went nearer to the receptionist. He had to admit, he was a bit annoyed at how she seemed to be not minding him despite their slightly close proximity towards one another. Gray also took notice of how the receptionist would giggle every now and then, probably finding what she's currently writing somewhat amusing.
'Wow, she sure is focused on whatever she's writing at.' Gray thought as he tilted his head in interest. 'Alright, snapping her out then. I'm not going to waste my time staring her writing and snickering like a crazy chick all day at whatever she's writing.'
Without hesitation, Gray leaned against the counter and attempted to catch the receptionist's attention by clearing his throat loudly. "Excuse me, miss."
The elf's act thankfully did its part as Penelope halted her writing and lifted her head up to see an elf. She quickly reacted by securing her notebook below her desk and stood up from her seat, no doubt embarrassed by how late she realized that someone is actually in front to consult with her, evident by the small blush on her pretty face.
"O-oh my." Penelope stuttered on her tone. Upon seeing the badge on the elf's robes, she came to a realization at how ill-bred she is and spontaneously bow her head down apologetically. "I'm truly sorry my lord. Forgive me for the rudeness that I displayed to you."
"Haha, it's quite alright." Gray grinned in assurance while waving his right hand dismissively. His tone then shifted to being playful as he said his next words. "Although seeing you chuckling like a madwoman, I can only imagine the entertaining words that you must be writing."
"Oh uh… it's nothing that you have to be concern about, my lord." Penelope sheepishly responded. "It's just a little hobby of mine. Anyways, my name is Penelope Germaine, the receptionist of the distinguished Bardic University. What can I do for you?"
Gray saw how flustered the young lady is in her attempt to change the subject promptly. Deciding to spare Penelope of any humiliation, he went along with her and introduced himself and his companions who are right behind him. "My name is Gray Allister and these are my friends, my Knight, Isamu Meiyo, my sister, Selena Allister, and a friend of mine from the Order, Liliane Springflower."
"Wait, you're Gray Allister?!" Penelope this time was in for a pleasant surprise as her tone turned lively, her embarrassment now totally forgotten. "The Headmaster is expecting you and your party's arrival. It's finally an honor to meet you!!"
"An honor?" Gray was perplexed at why Penelope is presently feeling all jolly at this very moment. "Kindly enlighten me."
"It was you who introduce the 'Gangnam Style' in Chadena, correct?" Penelope's eyes lit up with eagerness to which Gray nodded in response. "When Lord Hubard told us of your exploits when he and the other Bards came back, we were not able to contain our excitement at the prospect of meeting you in person. At first, I never believe that a regal and cultured elf such as yourself is capable of such eccentric yet catchy dance moves, but here you are, right in the flesh!! As a result, the Headmaster decided to spread the dance and patented it under your glorious name. Don't be astonished when you'll see some Bards randomly performing your dance in the streets."
"Hehe, right." Gray simply sweat-dropped at her explanation. It's official, his drunken shenanigans at the Fighter's Retreat would forever haunt him until his grave. Psy, if given the opportunity to cross here in this world, would no doubt berate the elf for shamelessly using his signature dance move of 2012 as a way to rise to fame, intentionally or not. 
"The Headmaster is currently inside his office," Penelope said. "If you and your companions would please follow me, I'll take you there. He's very ecstatic in meeting you this instant."
"That won't be necessary, dear."
Penelope's eyes widen as she heard a familiar sophisticated voice coming from her and the gang's side.
"Lord Luthais." 
The elven Dean himself smiled in a display of a welcoming manner, manifesting the same look of thrill while studying the gang with a calculating gaze, most particularly at his fellow elf, Gray Allister.

"Tomcat, Mai Dong… If you were to list the ten scientists who created deep, everlasting influence in human history, who would you choose?" Tang Yue sat before a table, with a piece of paper in front of him, while he spun the pen in his hand.
Ever since they had begun recording human history, Kunlun Station went from a research center of natural science to a social science research center.
"Isaac Newton." Tomcat was typing rapidly on the keyboard, muttering without looking up. "… Galois was no doubt a young genius. He deserves to be called one of the greatest mathematicians of the nineteenth century. Unfortunately, he died young… This warns us not to challenge others in fields you aren't skilled in. If Galois had engaged in a duel that didn't involve shooting but in solving equations, we could imagine that Galois would not only win the woman's hand but also live to a ripe old age…"
"Albert Einstein!" Mai Dong answered.
"Galileo Galilei," Tomcat added.
"Nicolas Cage, ah no—Copernicus!" Mai Dong added again.
"Charles Darwin."
"Doesn't Tesla count?" Tang Yue asked. "Nikola Tesla."
"When you mentioned Tesla, I thought you were referring to the founder of Tesla, Inc., Elon Musk." Tomcat stroked its whiskers. "Nikola Tesla might be a rare genius, but he doesn't deserve to be one of the top ten scientists in human history. You can place Michael Faraday, James Maxwell, and a bunch of others ahead of him."
"Some people call him a god."
"There are no gods in academia, just nut cases," Tomcat said.
"There's also Max Planck!" Mai Dong recalled another famous person.
"Miss Mai Dong, such a ranking is actually meaningless. I don't know why you humans like rankings. It's as though you always have to come up with a top ten, top four, and top three. Humans like to demarcate matters, using a layman's viewpoint to forcefully separate matters. You have to know that separation is the beginning of discrimination."
Tomcat shook its head.
"Max Planck is obviously great, but there are equals such as Niels Bohr, Max Born, Paul Dirac, Werner Heisenberg, as well as Louis de Broglie. Just randomly point at a picture of the Fifth Solvay International Conference in 1927, and he would be one of the greatest physicists in the twenty century or even human history.
Tang Yue scratched his head. Enjoying rankings was something that was part of his mindset. It wasn't only him; most Chinese, including Mai Dong, had such a mindset.
"We began ranking from a young age," Tang Yue said. "Tomcat, you haven't experienced the National College Entrance Examination. We were the students that survived from the hundreds of thousands of students in the entire province. Not only are students ranked, but even schools are also ranked. Peking University and Tsinghua University are the top tier, followed by the five universities in East China[1] as well as the C9 League[2]. There was a 985 and 211 in the past before they came up with the Double First-Class University Plan. The various fields have their own circles both big and small like the Eight Architecture Universities[3], the Two Electronic and One Post[4] and the Five Institutes and Four Departments."
"What about you?" Tomcat glanced at him.
"The university I received my Bachelors from is very ordinary. It was once a 211, but later became part of the Double First-Class University Plan," Tang Yue replied. "My Masters was received at the same place, and you can think of it as scraping by."
"Education is really the most severe involution in China." Tomcat sighed. "The college entrance examinations must have been highly competitive, right? Thousands cross a single bridge as they engage in a life-and-death struggle, each strike seeing blood."
"But that also has Chinese characteristics." Mai Dong giggled.
Tomcat stopped talking as it continued working hard at recording mathematical history.
It had just finished writing about Évariste Galois's life and was preparing to write about Niels Abel, who was also a pioneer in Group theory.
After Abel was a list of illustrious names.
Henri Poincaré. Without him, there wouldn't be the theory of relativity.
Georg Cantor. Yes, the Cantor from Cantor Sets.
Bernhard Riemann. Riemann's hypothesis had yet been solved even when the Earth vanished.
David Hilbert, an uncrowned king in the field of mathematics.
Hermann Minkowski, Einstein's teacher.
Tomcat wrote down these people in chronological order. It would write about whoever it recalled; thus, many famous mathematicians such as Archimedes, Gauss, Euler, Lagrange, Gödel, Neumann, and Hardy had already been filed away on Kunlun Station's hard disk, joining the ranks of the other most illustrious humans in human history. 
Tang Yue switched on the computer and connected it to the survey telescope on the space station.
He continued observing the comet.
Both Kunlun Station and the space station were tracking Comet Tomcat-Tang-Mai I and had collected enough data for the computer to calculate its trajectory. The calculation was the simplest part of the mission, with the hardest being collection of data. In the past, when observational means weren't advanced enough, humans had to spend decades or even centuries of observation to predict a comet's orbit period.
The Dawn module on the United Space Station had been destroyed, causing Tomcat and Tang Yue to lose most of its remote observation means. This dragged out the time needed.
The survey telescope took a picture every half an hour. It was difficult to tell any difference in the comet's brightness in a short period of time, but when Tang Yue lined them up together, he found that the comet was moving. It had already taken shape, and he could identify its head and tail from the telescope photos. According to the computer's calculations, the comet was passing by Jupiter's orbit and speeding towards Mars at an extremely fast rate.
With the comet constantly approaching the sun, the gravity exerted on it grew greater, accelerating it even more.
Tang Yue stared at the photo on the monitor, imagining the celestial body hurtling through space, spewing out evaporating steam and carbon dioxide in its tail. But instead of a tail, it resembled the flames spewed out by a rocket engine. Its tail was big enough to comprise all of Jupiter. The Great Red Spot was slowly spinning on Jupiter's surface as the turbid atmosphere stirred up intense bolts of lightning and storms like a colossal eye.
"Tang Yue, where's Grothendieck… Tang Yue?"
Tang Yue was taken aback as he snapped out of his fantasies.
"What?"
"Alexander Grothendieck's information," Tomcat said. "Where did you put it?"
"It's still on this hard disk." Tang Yue took out a hard disk from the drawer and pushed it over to Tomcat.
"Stop dazing around. What are you looking at? That comet?" Tomcat glanced at him before glancing at the monitor.
Tang Yue nodded. "You said that it wouldn't collide with Mars, right?"
"Of course." Tomcat wore an odd look. "The probability of it striking Mars is basically zero…"
"Ding!"
A pop-up window suddenly appeared on the monitor. It indicated that the calculation was done.
Tang Yue and Tomcat looked over.
The workstation indicated that it had completed the trajectory calculations of Comet Tomcat-Tang-Mai I, and it displayed the results.
Did it finish that quickly? Tomcat was slightly surprised, believing it would take another two more days.
The man and cat looked at the blue curve over the pitch-black background. It was the comet's predicted trajectory.
At its origin was a white point that clearly represented the comet.
And at its destination was a red circle, with the label: Mars.
There was also a tiny rectangle.
Inside the rectangle were English words written in bold. "WARNING: IMPACT!"
Tomcat was taken aback. Its expression slowly warped as though in slow-motion, looking like a Peking opera marshal with flags sticking out. It grimaced at the flags it had risen.

Payload specialist, Tang Yue, who is a mechanical and electrical engineer by training, is left stranded on Mars when he receives news from his AI robot assistant, Tomcat, that Earth has exploded. He believes himself to be the last human in the Universe.
Turns out, he is only the last man in the Universe. Botanist, Mai Dong, had been left on the United Space Station (USS) orbiting Mars, to await Tang Yue's ascent to the USS before they make their journey back to Earth. But now, it's impossible.
Join the trio's quest for survival as they attempt to unravel the mystery of Earth's disappearance.

At 2:40 am, four students from the medical faculty of Yun Hua University were gathered in front of the Inpatient Department.
The only thing bright about the building of the inpatient department was the LED sign that said [INPATIENT DEPARTMENT]. The interior of the ward was dark, like a man-eating beast that stood amid the bright and bustling city center of Yun Hua City.
Half a mile to the east stood Yun Hua City's clubbing street. Men or women alike who were seeking some fun could be sent over to Yun Hua Hospital after the driver ran two red lights. Even if they were to die on the spot from drinking so much, their bodies would still be warm by the time they were sent to the hospital.
However, for the medical students of Yun Hua University who had not graduated yet, the inpatient building seemed a little eerie at 2:40 am.
The medical students' legs started going limp after they got out of the cab, and the longer they waited, the more their legs felt like jelly.
"Are we being pranked?" A plump guy stammered. "It's just like those pranks friends in foreign universities pull. They would create a tremendously frightening scenario…"
"You want to be friends with Doctor Ling? Dream on." Qi Zao did not even feel like listening to what he was saying, and she cut him off in disdain.
Qi Zao was not actually chosen as one of the medical students from Yun Hua Hospital who got the opportunity to intern there. The hospital had selected three medical interns, and their names were even submitted to the Medical Affairs Department. Qi Zao utilized her identity as a campus reporter and got in touch with the Medical Affairs Department of Yun Hua Hospital through family connections. She then requested the Medical Affairs Department to assign her as one of the medical interns.
This tedious process was rather troublesome for Yu Yuan, who was responsible for the intake of medical interns. Qi Zao reckoned that Yu Yuan might even be a little unhappy about this. But Qi Zao did not care. Many of the associate chief physicians and chief physicians in the hospital would not be able to handle the tedious process. Since Yu Yuan was a chief resident, as long as she was not too much of an idiot, she would not make it a point to make things difficult for Qi Zao.
Of course, it would be difficult for her to benefit or receive favorable treatment. But all Qi Zao wanted to do was to carry out her job as a campus reporter and take more photographs of Senior Ling while she was at it. It would be best if she had the chance to interview him once or twice. Personally, she did not care about pursuing knowledge in the field of medicine.
Qi Zao then looked at the two other medical interns and asked a little curiously, "Are you guys scared?"
"Scared? Why would we be scared…? If Ling Ran dares to study in the anatomy dissection hall at three in the morning, then should we be bothered by the dissection hall as well? If he went there because he can't stand the heat, then it's the same thing for us. We can't stand the heat too." The guy standing behind her seemed a little weak, but he sounded confident. 
For most medical students, it was quite horrifying to be at the anatomy dissection hall at three in the morning. However, for those who had no fear in their hearts, during summer, the anatomy dissection hall was really cool in the morning. The air-conditioning would be on at full blast, and the ventilation would be even better than most hotels and malls.
Qi Zao was not paying attention to whether the guy was brave or afraid of the heat though. She merely said in disdain, "Can you not use Senior Ling's real name? You can either call him Doctor Ling or Senior Ling."
"Aren't names meant to be used?" Even though the guy seemed a little weak, he had quite a strong personality.
Qi Zao stared solemnly at the other party. "When Senior Ling's parents gave him his name, you weren't even an embryo yet. What right do you have to call his name? Just because you're ugly?"
"I…" As a male university student, the guy was not that shameless yet. He immediately lost it when a girl mocked him like that.
This was when another female intern cleared her throat a few times and said, "Since we're here for an internship, we should find a way to enter the place first. Do any of you have a phone number that we can call?"
Qi Zao whipped out her phone. To appease her, the cadre from the Medical Affairs Department had given her the clinical lecturer's phone number.
Seven or eight minutes later, the pitter-patter of feet rang out from a distance.
The sound was a little intense, and it made the medical interns even more uneasy amid this dark and vast night.
"Say, no matter how I think about it, it isn't normal to come to the hospital at three in the morning." The plump guy's expression turned grim again.
Qi Zao furrowed her eyebrows and said, "Didn't Doctor Ling mention during class that they always carry out surgeries as early as possible?"
"It's still too early."
"You have stayed up till three in the morning before, haven't you? Why didn't you find it early when you did that?" Qi Zao was extremely good with words, and she always won every single argument.
The plump guy was unable to refute. As he listened to the approaching footsteps and gazed at the dark Inpatient Department, he felt a chill run down his spine.

With a click, all the lights on the ground floor of the Inpatient Department were switched on.
"Come in." A voice rang out from ahead of them, but no one could be seen.
The four medical interns, though, immediately relaxed. They called out in unison, "Doctor Yu."
"Hm." Yu Yuan hummed in acknowledgment. She walked out, dragging a long shadow behind her. She then continued, "It will be time to make ward rounds soon, so you guys have to hurry up. Also, what are your names?"
"Qi Zao."
"Zheng Yuandong," the plump guy answered in a soft voice.
"Wang Rui." The thin and weak-looking guy raised his chin.
"Li Bian," the other female student said obediently.
Yu Yuan nodded. "All of you are students from Yun Hua University, the same university Doctor Ling went to. Do put on a good performance in the hospital."
The four interns nodded obediently.
"After we make ward rounds, we'll be heading to the operating theater. All of you, get ready and ask any questions you have beforehand," Yu Yuan said and led the four interns into the elevator.
Qi Zao and the other medical interns were a little dumbfounded.
Zheng Yuandong the plump guy asked, "Since we're going to the operating theater, does it mean that we're carrying out a surgery?"
"Of course."
"Ah… are we really carrying out a surgery?" Other than Zheng Yuandong, the other medical interns exclaimed too.
Yu Yuan arched an eyebrow proudly. "We carry out many surgeries every day. In the future, you guys will have plenty of opportunities to carry out surgeries."
"I heard that medical interns have to do a lot of stuff like writing medical records… Don't we have to do that?" Zheng Yuandong had a pair of lively eyes. He squinted when he talked, and it made him look very intelligent.
Yu Yuan chuckled. "You guys will be writing medical records in the afternoon. That's when the human body is the least energetic, so it's just the right time to carry out this kind of task."
The four medical interns did not fully understand what Yu Yuan was talking about. It was as if Yu Yuan was a shepherd, and they were a lost herd of sheep, following her. They said nothing and merely looked at their surroundings.
Yu Yuan said whatever came to mind, but she basically told them everything that they had to pay attention to.
The precautions that a person must take in the hospital were actually just like those in other workplaces. All they had to do was spend more time observing and listening while asking very few questions. Aside from that, they must not touch anything without permission. The four medical interns were following Yu Yuan in a dumbfounded manner, and because of this, they probably would not get into trouble.
After the morning ended, the four medical interns were starting to become accustomed to the environment in the operating theater.
Qi Zao had been holding her camera, and she took many photographs that she was satisfied with.
Doctors in the operating theater were actually very willing to get photographs. This was especially true for some of the younger doctors. They often had the habit of taking their own photographs as reference.
This was even more so for the doctors who intended to write research papers. They could never have enough raw materials in the form of pictures. 
Qi Zao was good with words, and she was an amazing photographer too. Hence, it was easy for her to obtain permission from doctors to photograph them.
Of course, most of the photographs Qi Zao took featured Doctor Ling.
The three other medical interns stood in the corner of the operating theater from the beginning to the end. They watched as Ling Ran operated on patients, and slowly, their eyes became accustomed to all the beauty in front of them. 
As time passed, Zheng Yuandong started to grow hungry, and this was when a doctor rushed into the operating theater.
"Doctor Ling, there was a sudden mudflow, and heavily wounded patients are being sent here right now. The presence of all the doctors in the Emergency Medical Center is required." The doctor was speaking quite loudly, and every single person in the operating theater could hear him.
Everyone looked at Ling Ran, especially the four medical interns.

That same day, after breakfast, Baiyi led his students to the finished academy; once there, they met up with Eom village's fairies, who were all excited. As soon as Baiyi and his students stepped out of his private teleportation portal, they spotted a humongous gate behind them. There was a nameplate on the gate, with nothing written on it. 
This gigantic gate was like no other. It did not resemble a door, neither was it an electronic gate; it was an arch — beautifully crafted from trees — which greatly resembled a gated entrance. Beyond the gate was a lush pasture filled with beautiful flowers. The sight was a beautiful one to behold. The arch could very well be mistaken for the entrance to a vast garden beautiful enough to make people want to visit. 
Inside this beautiful garden was a huge, neatly-sculpted, cube-shaped stone slab. Its surface was smooth and without any engravings. This was because the academy's name was still undecided.
"So pretty! Everything is so pretty! Gosh, if this is its gate, then the academy itself must be a wonderland!" Little Mia mumbled with a dreamy expression as she shuffled closer to Baiyi.
"The interior will look a tad bit different; you'll see. But, first, you need to know that the exquisite entrance we see today is much better than the design in the first blueprint. This is thanks to the hard work of our fairy friends. Hence, we should all be thankful to Nydore and her people," Baiyi announced, giving due credit to the fairies for their contribution.
"Oh, it's no big deal, grandpa. This was a project that we took on willingly," Nydore replied humbly as she and Mia played with a sabercat cub — the only sabercat to survive Eom Village's destruction.
A few months had passed since the fairies of Eom Village moved there. After getting used to their new abode, which was smaller than the Eternal Tree Ocean, their uneasiness subsided, and they began to live in content. They were able to find a spot deep in the woods, far away from the Academy, to build their new village.
As aforementioned, compared to the sheer massive size of the Eternal Tree Ocean, the Micro realm seemed small. However, after recovering their tranquility, the fairies got busy with other activities. It did not take long for their attention to shift to Baiyi's new academy, which was being constructed at the time.
"Everyone wants to pitch in, grandpa. It's the only way we can think of to repay your kindness," Nydore had said to Baiyi, seeking his permission.
As Baiyi welcomed all efforts to beautify the academy, he instantly agreed. However, he warned Nydore to ensure that the fairies were mindful of their interaction with the human constructors; he did not want any skirmish, however trivial, to break out.
After that, Nydore, the fairies, and Mr. Bear, who were all green thumbs, embarked on their venture to beautify the academy. They were all naturals at gardening, and with the help of Mr. Bear's mysterious nature powers, they smoothened the academy's grounds, which had been marred by the construction. In a few months, the land within the academy was turned into something akin to a massive garden. It was as though it had undergone decades of reforestation efforts.
This handiwork of Mr. Bear and the fairies was astonishing. The leader of the human construction team was so impressed that he extended to them an invitation to collaborate on future construction projects.
The fairies declined the offer, which upset the human a little, but no skirmishes broke out. Both groups were reserved around each other, so no unpleasant issues arose in the period they had to work together.
As both groups spoke different languages, they rarely tried to communicate with each other. However, after the fairies arrived at the Micro realm, the male construction workers began to visit red light districts much often than before. The breathtaking beauty of the fairies may have had a hand in that development.
"Why isn't there a name engraved on the slab?" Tisdale suddenly asked.
"That's because I wanted to carve the name in front of you all," Baiyi replied. He raised his hand, and a tiny rune began to burn at the tip of his index finger. A bright ray shot out from the rune and struck the huge slab, carving two characters on its smooth surface.
It was the word 'university' written in Chinese Hanzi, not in the writing systems belonging to this world.
The characters were written in standard Chinese calligraphy. Their strokes perfectly showcased the writer's acute penmanship, as well as give a sense of his assertive and indomitable character. The characters were so aesthetic, one would think they were written by a famous calligraphy artist.
Of course, this was not Baiyi's own writing. If anyone saw his writing, they would think that a couple of drunk worms had crawled across the sheet of paper. Hence, he had decided to develop a special spell for this occasion. It allowed him to write his characters in a sophisticated style of writing.
"Ehh? Am I the only one who can not read these words?" Laeticia asked, scratching her head. "Mr. Hope, what do these words mean?"
"These two characters are pronounced 'da' and 'xue'. It's written in the special characters of my hometown. 'Da Xue' means 'University', which is a large, prestigious institution for higher education," Baiyi answered.
This was the name of the academy. 'Da Xue', not "University of X" or "University Academy".
As the Voidwalkers could not agree on a name, they decided to settle for a word that did not originate from their world. After all, foreign words always sound cooler — something that could not be said for the names they had come up with it. 
'Da Xue' seemed perfect. The academy would offer specialized, advanced education that covered a wide range of subjects; did this not make it a university in its own right? This name also paid homage to one of the most important principles in the book 'Great Learning': 'man must first learn to refine his own morality before setting out to refine the world to harmony.' [1] Baiyi and the other Voidwalkers felt that this principle ennobled the academy.
Baiyi was quite pleased with the name, and the other Voidwalkers did not oppose it. Who knows what the comment section would think about it. [2]
"'Da Xue'? Is this a new word? Did you just say that it means a big school offering specialized courses?" Nydore muttered to herself, pronouncing the word using the accent native to her kingdom. After repeating the name a few times, she smiled. "Hee hee. This is such a nice name!"
"Mm-hmm. Glad that you all agree." Baiyi nodded his head in satisfaction. He walked in front of everyone and spread his arms wide open. "Now, why don't we take a look inside Da Xue..."
Suddenly, a 3D model of the academy appeared in the sky, formed by Baiyi's mana. Blue names hovered above each building on the model. There was also a blinking red dot denoting the group's current position within the academy.
With the 3D map hovering over his hand, Baiyi took his students on a tour through the brand new, beautiful, harmonious, tranquil, and appealing academy [3]. It was the poster building for brilliant artisanship.
The academy's buildings were spherical in shape, and Baiyi's group was standing at the center of the complex. This was because Baiyi's private teleportation portal deposited its users at the heart of the university, making walking to other parts of the academy convenient.
The central plaza, which was close to the entrance, was a beautiful little garden. Its roads were paved with green marble tiles, which connected to other parts of Da Xue. There were trees beside the paved roads, which had been beautifully trimmed into different shapes. Some even had direction signs on them, which pointed directions to various facilities. The group soon noticed that Guidance Formations, which projected 3D blueprints similar to the one above Baiyi, spread along the paved paths. There were there to ensure that no one got lost within the complex.
Whether or not all of this would help the kind of people who got lost the moment they stepped out of their homes, remained a mystery.
Beneath the trees planted by the sides of the paved paths were long benches, making the entire central plaza resemble a serene recreational park.
As soon as the group exited the central plaza, their gazes locked onto a complex of huge buildings. These were the lecture facilities and laboratories. Farther down the road were the students' dormitory, magical cultivation grounds, and other facilities. When one walked past these buildings, they would reach the outer layer of the academy; once there, they would find a temperature barrier covering the entire academy. This barrier adjusts the temperature to levels comfortable for its human inhabitants. 
The entire academy complex resembled a pizza, with each slice containing different facilities, and the central garden-like plaza being the middle of the pizza. Every section was linked by paved paths. If the destination one sought to reach was too far, they could use any of the short-distance teleportation portals within each section to travel to and fro.
Baiyi's office and residence were situated at the northern part of the academy, close to the fairies' new village. This arrangement was for the fairies' security benefit. Baiyi wanted to prevent students from causing trouble for the fairies.
Mia and the students would live in a new residence built around Baiyi's residential area. As growing girls, their need for privacy could not be underestimated; hence, mini chalets were built for each of them. The instructors joining from outside would have their own mini chalets.
After all, the entire realm belonged to Baiyi. Its land mass was too vast to house only an academy, so he was free to use the other areas as he saw fit.
"This really is the most beautiful place I've ever been to!" Little Mia cried out earnestly. "It's so different from other academies I've seen! It's just so special!"
"Oh, we're going to be so happy staying and studying here," Tisdale said with a chuckle.
'Mm-hmm! Seeing one's daughters expressing their content is always satisfying,' Baiyi thought. 'At least, all that money was well spent.'
Baiyi was quite fortunate to have Vidomina's father donate building materials and cover a part of the construction fees. With his private funds alone, Baiyi would have been unable to build an academy of this magnitude.
Whenever Baiyi remember how much it had cost to build the academy, he felt that the tuition fee he had set was, in fact, too cheap. He knew that it would take him a long time to get returns on his investment, but once the academy became renowned throughout the realms, he could decide to accept students whose parents were willing to sponsor the academy in exchange for the children's enrollment.
"Now then, godfather, when will Da Xue open to the public? When that happens, we're gonna throw a big party!" Vidomina suddenly said. "In fact, let's make the opening ceremony super amazing!"
Baiyi's expression quickly changed (ᅌᴗᅌ* ). "Uh, maybe, no. I mean, I don't really like festivities… The less festive a day is, the better it is for me. Ever notice that I no longer attend festivals with you girls?"
"Aww, so it's a no? Hey, now that you mention it," Attie began, a little ruefully, "What a shame that you didn't join us the other day, master. That National Day celebration was such a blast!"
With that, Da Xue's grand opening came a step closer.
[1] Cultural fun fact! Da Xue usually means 'university, but it's also the name of an important book in Confucianism (in this instance, the word Da means 'great', and Xue means 'learning'). The book mainly stresses learning as the foundation of all the other great virtues by emphasizing on a quality called "Investigation of Things" (格物).

So I'm back at the dorm and I've just found out that I have to share a room with a BBBBBOYYYY!!!!!!!!

Well ok? My name is Lizzie and I've just moved here from California and My parents work as doctors and I work a part-time at target or something It's not as good as my parents jobs but it's a steady job.

(The following story can be considered a sin against writing as it breaks the greatest rule of writing i know, show don't tell. )

Jack walked into his mobile home and paused to lean against the door and groan. It had been a tiring day at the plant and tomorrow wasn't looking any better.the petrochemical industry was booming currently and the plant needed every engineer it could get its hands on. The pay was amazing, or at least it would be if he hadn't gone through the trouble of acquiring a multi million dollar debt. 
With a grunt he propelled himself off the door and stumped over to the fridge to grab a drink. Jack smoothly moved to sit on the couch in front of his tv and flipped the power button. 
Static showed up on the screen then quickly cleared to show the local news station , only for some reason one of their national news anchors was on. 
"This is Dan Daring here with NNC news to re- announce that the white house will be holding an announcement of global importance. In only a few more minutes we will be able to listen to a historic briefing from the president with such impotence guests as Gary Tillman, the genius entrepreneur and CEO of one of the worlds most powerful corporations.Please don't go anywhere as we will be right back with you after this break". 
Commercials started playing and Jack idly wondered if he should go out to eat or just microwave something. As he sat there thinking the tv flashed an interruption message then quickly changed to a press room in the white house.  Jack frowned as instead of a member of the government walking out, Gary walked up to the podium and started talking.  "Good afternoon everyone," Gary spoke, " it is with pride that i am able to come before you all now to announce that my company, Future Sciences, has finished the design for a new energy source, cleaner and more energy efficient than today's nuclear reactors and with none of the environmental risks involved. It has been a long quest from when i first started my company designing a hovercraft that used actual gravity manipulation to fly, to our great space navigation technology letting us create a navigation program based on where we are in relation to the stars. Through new polymers for vehicles, and new exciting  safety equipment to help with pilot high velocity maneuvers my company has been dedicated to pushing humanity forward as fast as possible. "

Jack idly flicked the power button to his computer then leaned back contemplating the past. 

Jack grew up in the small town of Orange Texas. It was a town that existed solely to provide a nearby chemical plant with workers.   His parents were both engineers so, while not rich, they were able to send him to the best local schools available. It was in kindergarten at age 4 that Jack first met Gary. 
" Honey!! Wheres the green power ranger?" 4 year old Jacks mom yelled to his dad." Its his first day of kindergarten, he needs a toy!"  
"Found it!" Jacks dad called as he ran down stairs carrying the plastic toy.   Jack stood there drinking his apple juice box as his parents fussed over him on his first day of school.  
In the car ride over, his mother told him over and over she and dad were going to work so he needed to be a good boy and wait for them to come pick them up later.  Jack just nodded and laughed as he played with his green ranger.  Arriving at the school he was quickly shuffled in and joined a large group of 4 year olds in a play area.
A boy walked up to Jack as he sat down to play and spoke, "Hey, my name is Gary what is your name?" 


Gary was perfect, almost like an adult in a child's body he knew everything. Even Jack had liked Gary at first. That was until one month into kindergarten Gary picked his favorite 3 kids and started excluding everyone else. While all the other kids spent all their time playing, Gary put his three friends through a rigorous teaching course. 

Jack, only 4 at this time, was jealous as his parents always called him special. So instead of playing, he pestered his parents that he wanted to learn.  His mom hired a nanny who spent time teaching him to read, write, and do simple addition.  Kindergarten ended and Jack entered first grade with Gary and his group. Working hard all year, he felt he was as great as Gary was, at least until second grade started. On the first day of second grade Jack learned Gary and his friends had tested out of second grade and were third graders now.  
Jacks nanny became a full on home tutor, and any budding friendships died on the vine as his 6 year old self set a lifelong goal of beating Gary somewhere. Jack managed to test out of third grade at seven, but Gary had already tested out of fourth.  Gary seemed to just be picking up steam as he fully graduated high school at 12 years old, making a record for youngest graduate.  This gave him national attention and a full scholarship to any University on the planet. Gary chose Harvard university. 

Two years later Jack graduated at age 14. Four years younger than the next youngest in his graduating class.  Unfortunately, the world had moved on. Gary had shifted the worlds benchmark for what is genius so Jack just came across as pretty smart.  
Jacks goal of being as good as Gary never stood a chance. Depressed, he had gone home with his parents and signed up for his moms university, Rice.  Bereft without a goal, Jack turned to the degree his parents had, engineering, to at least support himself when he became independent. 


In the TV Gary stopped  talking and stepped aside for the next speaker. Jacks eyes widened as, in the tv, an actual alien walked up to start speaking. Standing a good half foot taller than the humans around it, the only major visible difference between the alien and a human were its 2 opposable thumbs per 6 finger hand, and two extra eyes.  Jack idly noticed Gary was the tallest of the humans standing in the background of the news conference and this helped calm him down quickly.  As alien started speaking in a fluent english Jack turned his eyes to his computer and double clicked the icon names Atlas.   With the program started, Jack leaned back and continued thinking about his past as the alien on the TV droned on. 

College, had been an entirely different animal for Jack. No longer stuck with the impossible goal of being better than Gary, he was able to stretch out and enjoy himself.  Jack quickly got deep into robotics as a hobby, and by the time he graduated, had made several nice robot designs and programming breakthroughs for himself. His crowning achievement was a small robot the size of a laptop, and looked something like a roach. It's uniqueness came not from its size, but due to it being a replicant. His robot had the ability to take dirt, and over few hours build a working copy of itself.  Days before graduation Jack tested it in his back yard and ended up with 4 laptop sized cockroach robots. 
The only other hobby he got into was watching south park in college. He kept this hobby well into his first job at a chemical plant, and did little more than work and watch cartoons for two years after graduation.  It wasn't until he watched the episode sending a whale to the moon that he got a hint of an idea that might actually let him get over his grudge about Gary.  
With a goal of getting his robot to the moon, Jack started research into commercial space launches.  Nasa was out as they were currently in a government low spending period. China and Russia were the next two but both their programs refused to do anything beyond the International space station.   Jack eventually found that the Mexican Space Agency had rockets capable of one way trips and had one scheduled in the following year to put up satellites.  Contacting them Jack learned that for the small price of ten million per pound, Mexico would be happy to throw something at the moon. Jacks robot weighed in at 4.5 pounds, putting it in a safe case brought its total weight to a solid 5. To get 50 million, Jack took out a house loan, and sold the house his parents helped him buy.  He worked overtime at the plant as a technician pulling in time and a half pay at a 180 dollars an hour pay rate.  By pulling every resource he had ever earned in his first 30 years of life, Jack came up with 50 million to put his replicator on the moon. 

That was nine years ago Jack thought as he glanced at his computer. Atlas had finished booting up and not a grainy view of earth from orbit was showing on the computer screen with a small pair of crosshairs in the center.  As the alien diplomat started wrapping up his speech, Jack scrolled and adjusted the programs screen until a large space ship, hovering in the upper atmosphere over the white house came into view. 

"And it is with great joy that i am able to stand here before you today and announce that, due to the before mentioned inventions, humanity is no longer eligible for the young race protections of the galactic government." The diplomat concluded, " As such, we will the quickly sterilizing this planet for our future colony over the next few days". 

Silence reigned in the press conference as Gary walked up and shook hands with the diplomat.  Jack took one last swig of his beer then clicked enter onto his computers keyboard.  238,900 miles from earth, a ring of moon rock the diameter of a football field glowed quickly before evaporating as an oversized laser turned on. 1.25 seconds later, the alien ship lit up like it was in the center of the sun before quickly evaporating under the intense heat transferred to it from the moon based weapon. 

"I think its time for bed" Jack murmured to himself as he stumbled up from the chair. He still had a 26 million dollar debt to pay.
