So it's official. I've done a solid 360.

Last year I started the year trying to achieve astral travel and I saw all occult novelists as nothing more than scam artists telling people that they can achieve ultimate power by buying all their books and spend the next 5 decades struggling along, not knowing what they're doing. I distrusted authors like E.A. Koetting and Aleister Crowley and thought they were just extremely charismatic drug addicts.

After my struggles with astral travel, I got frustrated and turned to chaos magick in the hope that it'll shed some light on what I did wrong with my attempts at astral travel. That let me to reading more books about Aleister Crowley and other occult novelists that delve into chaos magick. I still found them to be extremely power-hungry but I somehow got fascinated by what they were able to accomplish with magick. I slowly started warming up to them a little bit more.

Through chaos magick, I discovered psionics and thus also my first teacher. I learned quite a bit through psionics and it seems to be the field that I was most successful with thus far, but it wasn't enough. I didn't find enough research on it and I later got distracted with other things and ultimately moved away from psionics. [I still have the rock in my closest.... maybe that had some effect on my summoning attempt?]

By the end of 2019, I started having interests in Shapeshifting and Demonolatry, and I decided that I would set up a personal initiation for myself which included summoning a demon and trying to see if I can't get it to teach me the occult arts. Sadly I was unsuccessful (seems to happen a lot throughout this year). I did however read about something called a witch's temple which was quite interesting for me. Basically what it is, is that you create a space in the astral plane where you can travel to whenever you want. It gives you a place to perform ritual magick but without having to risk your family finding out. Because I sat on my bed facing west when I created the temple I can somehow use it as a good form of a compass when I go walking since it seems to be linked to reality when it comes to North, East, South and West facings. My temple isn't much. It's literally just 2 walls. One facing East and one facing West. With a pillar in the North-West corner. There is an altar in the middle. It's a bottomless pit. It pretty much just looks like a 3D model with a skybox. It's always twilight in my little dimensions with clouds flowing from West to East.

Now that we've reached 2020, I find myself slowly going back to astral travel and chaos magick. I started developing the same distrust I had towards authors like E.A. Koetting and Aleister Crowley. I see them as nothing more than power-hungry occultists, with a drug addiction. I kind help but think they are overly charismatic and that allows them to easily manipulate their followers. Whenever I read their books I notice that they use big words and amazing descriptions but in the end, they are just spewing nonsense which seems like it sounds very smart and realistic. Maybe I'm just overly skeptical since my summoning attempts failed. Although I still trust authors like Bluefluke, maybe that's just cause they seem more down to earth.

Follow the tale of a young man as he uncovers the occult secrets of the modern world. The story is written in such a fashion as to mimic a grimoire

It took them three hours to open all the windows and doors in the library. The library was bigger than they had thought.

The castle was a 100 meter tall and had four broad 190 meters tall round towers located at the north, south, east, and west of the castle. They're each linked with the castle by a 30 meters stone bridge and were linked with each other around the castle by a reinforced long 80 meters high and 600 meters long solid walls made of Yellowstone bricks, along with battlement. Tall, wide windows are scattered here and there across the castle in a seemingly random pattern. It has a 20 meters huge gate with wide wooden doors and the only entrance to the castle. These towers looked like it hadn't been used for a long time because all everything inside these towers was broken and dustier than the ones in the castle. 

The castle has three floors. For travel between floors, there are specific points on each floor, where large stairs for the travel were. The first floor was 50 meters high and only filled with a maze of bookshelves reaching the ceiling and none of the bookshelves had books. The throne room was located on the north side of the first floor. The second floor was 30 meters high with a maze of bookshelves and 14 rooms scattered throughout the maze. The third floor 20 meters high with an organized row of empty bookshelves.

The tallest point of the castle was a 130 meters tall tower in the middle of the castle. It has sixteen floors and on each floor "+" shaped bridge, offering four paths of access. If you fall from the bridge on the 16 floor, you will fall straight down to the first floor. Each floor has one stair to move up and another for up. It has one door facing the north side of the castle and one window on the fifth floor. This tower was the part which was visible from above ground and is were Adam, Adan, Aaron, Aerin, and Agate entered from. The whole castle was filled with empty dusty bookshelves with only the middle tower filled with books. The castle looks more like a castle for defense than a library.

After opening all the windows and doors, Adam used air bending, starting from the first floor, to blow the dust away while Adan and the rest went out of the library to hunt. Since there weren't any books and the shelves were sturdy. He didn't need too much control. After Adam blew out the dust, they didn't do anymore because the library wasn't dirty, only dusty.

Adam was on the throne room sitting on the top of the steps getting used to moving the library. He kept moving the library around until his stamina ran out then stopped the library.

[Watching you is getting boring. I mean all you had done since I brought you into this world is being lost in the desert for five years, cleaning a library and then playing with the library.]

[It getting boring. Go out and see the world, do the mission, meet new people, start a grand war, do many things so I won't be bored anymore.]

"I still have 495 years left you to know," Adam said, stretching.

[Yes I know, but for a war to be an eternal war, in my opinion, is for it to raging on for 1000 years. But because you don't have enough time in this world, I reduced the requirement to 300 years, and be the most bloody war that has ever been seen in this world. So using 195 years for preparation to create a war, like that is going to be hard for you, in my opinion.

"What? 300 years? I thought it was 100 years. Shit, I need to hurry. Oh yes, Z, how do I get point without doing missions?" Adam asked standing up and walking down the steps.

[Oh... About that. Ok now when you see anything valuable, like a dead dragon body, touch them and say collect. You will be rewarded points based on the item. If you keep collecting the same things, it will lose its value. So you can't spam points.]

"Who is the current Avatar?"

[Find that out yourself. I am adding something to the physical power level on the system. So don't disturb me for like... 2 years.]

"I have to shorten the time used for my training to 5 years. Damn, making a war that goes on for 300 years and needs to be the bloodiest war that has ever been seen in this world will be hard. "

Adam walked to the 16th floor of the middle tower and saw Adan reading a book on top of a shelf. 

"Adan, what you reading?" Adam asked, waving at Adan.

"A book about the first Avatar." He said without looking up from his book.

"Do you know who the current Avatar is?" Adam asked, climbing the shelve Adan is sitting on.

"No, but Avatar Kuruk died in year 776, 4 years before you were born. So the current Avatar will be 18 years old. Come on, Agate is almost done organizing the book for our bending." Adan closed the book and jumped down from the bookshelf.

"How do you know?" Adam asked as he jumped down the bookshelf.

"I have a feeling." He said. 

They walked to the north side of the tower. Aaron and Aerin were standing behind Agate who was organizing the books.

"You were right," Adam said walking beside Aaron. Aaron grabbed on to Adam's shoulder, keeping him in place.

"Little d*ck nick finally managed to stop playing with the castle and come. Everyone was working while you were playing. Shame on you." Agate said, still organizing the books.

"You knew he was going to say something," Adam said while trying to struggle free. After some time, he gave up. "Miss Agate, please forgive me for not coming sooner."

"Hmm, what did you say?" Agate stopped working and said.

"Oh sorry, Miss, did I say something wrong? Please correct me. You can do this by taking me out of the library and fighting me." Adam said, looking apologetic.

"Oh, little d*ck nick..." Agate tried to say something but Adan smacked the back of his head.

"Adam, stop talking. Agate finish your work." Adan said as he smacked both of them on the back of their heads.

"I was done three minutes ago, just waiting for Adam and you to show up. Ok, those thirteen books are shortened versions of eighteen books about fire-bending. Everything about fire-bending, its history, and how to train it is on those books." He said, pointing at twelve books with red covers stacked on each other. He pointed at another stack of books but with a green cover, "Those are fourteen books are shortened books of twenty-three about Earth bending. Everything about Earth-bending, its history, and how to train it is on those books. Aaron, I have found 73 books for different types of martial art the knowledge seeker brought to me. Since you are knowledgeable about martial art, can you find the martial art fitting for us?"

"Ok. I will learn and master all the martial art in this library, so I can start learning about it while finding which one better fits you guys." Aaron said, shrugging.

"Ok for the air-bending, it those books." He pointed at 14 books with an orange cover. "I am done with my work."

"Ok, we are going to train for 10 years, then leave this desert to create our legend," Adan said, picking up his pile of books.

"No, we should train for five years. Look at you Adan, you are 48 years. If we train for 10 years, you will be 58, the time for you to form your legend will shorter." Adam said walking up to his pile of books.

"You are right. I am getting old. Ok, 5 years it is." Adan said, walking away from his pile of books.

'I should get stronger, and also learn more about the avatar. He or she will be my enemy in the future.' Adam thought as he walked away with his books.

Although there were clues everywhere, the survivors from earth were in denial. Earth was huge. They could have been anywhere on earth. An unexplored part, unidentified animals, flora-fauna, everything could have been deciphered as the vastness of the earth.


But no they really were not on earth. How could a plane take-off and crash on another planet? They weren't on some spaceship. What's with the transmigration?


Everyone was devastated. They had no desire to go on a fantasy adventure on a different planet. Their journey to reach this village was already tiring. They had near and dear ones back on earth. They might be of not much importance to their country or even their city, but their family was important to them.


Kiara was sitting on a wooden bench. Tears trickling down her cheeks. She had begun missing her family. She always dreamed about magic, fantasy and all sorts. She had read tons of book on them. But truthfully, they only look good in books.


Arav came behind her and stroke her head. 


"What are we gonna do?", Kiara spoke struggling to keep her composure. 


"Rest for now"


Arav was deep in his thoughts. The old chief had told them they could make a call from Caito city, she was saying stuff about interplanetary communication. What befuddled him was, the old chief assumed that they were from a neighbouring planet. Where on earth anyone would be calm if someone says they are not from their planet.


Arav wanted Kiara to calm down as she was the only one who could communicate with the natives.


After some time, when Kiara calmed down, Arav and Kiara went to ask for books related to planets and stars.


Kiara knowledge in reading and writing in Santhali was limited. So, they asked for books. And what met them was another obstruction. The books were in Sumerian language. Like their country India, this planet also had a ton of languages and dialects. 

So, they were literally illiterate here. They can only stare at the pictures.


Brandon saw this book and eyes shined as if he had seen some treasures.


"This. This. How could this be? This is the Sumerian language. My life's research..", Brandon was too excited that he could hardly speak.


"You can read it", Arav asked


" Yes. Haha", Brandon was behaving like a mad man.


Kiara gave him the book and waited for him to translate it to them. But Brandon was too much into his own world. He was in ecstasy.


"Earth to prof. Dominic, we need a little help here", Kiara pulled back Brandon from his own little world.


He deciphered the book to them. He told them that they were in a galaxy called Elysium. 'An' solar system is one of its systems. The whole galaxy and nearby four galaxies are under the Elysium govt. This Elysium govt was in Elysium city of 'El' planet. And the book had mentioned a dozen planets and galaxy, but their Milky way galaxy wasn't in it. Neither there was any that resembled it.


This was a groundbreaking find for them. If they go back to Earth and tell them, there are galaxies millions of light-years away from where humans live and their knowledge on space travel was beyond time. No doubt this matter will cause a commotion. But only if they can go back to earth.  


Arav had a frown on his face while Brandon was ecstatic. Groundbreaking or whatever, it was no help to their situation.


The only help they could get was going to this Caito city. From where they will have to go to Elysium city, oh it's on another solar system. When they reach Elysium they may or may not get a ticket back to Earth. All this travelling was sure to eat up their whole lifetime. It took them 560 hours to reach this village, another city on foot, no way. Unless they had a mode to travel.

A flight going to New York from Heathrow vanishes a few hours after takeoff. The passengers of flight find themselves stranded in a mystical island. They try to find a way back home. Things don't go easy for them. They undergo many circumstances which question their beliefs, questions their state of being. Or if it was alright to give up.  "Will they ever be able to come back home?"

James went to the nearest village to rest for the day as the sun was already setting. Once he reached there he went to the trading area where merchants and others have set up their stalls and earn a living.
There James saw a craftsman,hence he approached the craftsman and said that he needed a mini ship and a sword. the craftsman said that the ship and the sword will be ready in a week. James paid the craftsman ten gold before leaving the trading area and went to have his dinner for the night before dozing off in a hay stack for the night. He prepared on survival tips to survive in the very warm climate in Egypt and read many books about Egypt and it's history and it's dangerous locations in the village's one and only mini library with about 500 books for the next six days. One week later when his mini ship was ready to sail across the sea he collected the mini ship from the craftsman and then went to the other shops to stock up on water and food with his remaining 1 gold. In the market one apple costs 20 copper while a litre of water costs 30 coppers. Based on his calculation it takes two weeks to travel in the sea. Hence he bought 150 apples and 40 litres of water which cost him  about 50 silvers. he decided to save up on his 50 silvers as he might need his once he had to travel for 3000 km to Egypt. Once he was done with that he took his mini ship and went to the sea. Looking back at the land one last time he sailed off into the sea .

This story is about James going in his adventure to conquer this world with the power of 7 Jewels. He passed through many tests and get each jewel. The test include some things from wild wolves to Gods.

Tragedy comes without warning, and things were not always predictable.

It was originally an auspicious and peaceful Spring Festival, but in the end tragedy struck.

On the morning of the second day of the new year, Fate's system had just finished updating, but before Ye Ci and Bai Mo could even go online a phone call arrived.

The call was from an old classmate of Zuo Xiaolan and Ye Nantian. Ye Ci did not know what transpired in the conversation. She only knew that even before the call had ended, Zuo Xiaolan had already started crying. Zuo Xiaolan was a strong and optimistic woman. Even if she would at times shed some tears while watching Korean dramas, she was able to have a normal conversation with Ye Nantian right after, "The inflation nowadays, even a steamed bun is now a buck each."

For a woman like her to be crying so profusely, Ye Ci and Bai Mo felt their hearts likewise constricting in sympathy. They immediately attempted to console Zuo Xiaolan who continued crying without giving them answers. Ye Nantian who was standing at a side let out a long sigh and told them the news.

Zuo Xiaolan did not do well academically when she was young and was always looked down upon by her teachers. Her class teacher, however, treated her very well. He did not look down on her and instead gave her special treatment. Zuo Xiaolan's family was very poor at that time. When her pants were cut open during the winter and her family could not even afford to repair it, her class teacher simply bought her new ones.

It was because of her class teacher that Zuo Xiaolan managed to graduate from high school. In Zuo Xiaolan's heart, her class teacher Mr. Tan was like a second parent to her, and she would always pay him a visit every year. In fact, Mr. Tan had treated every student very well, and he was well-respected among the student body.

Mr. Tan's family was on a plane trip to Europe for a 10-day vacation when the flight was met with mishap. There were no survivors. The only remaining member of the family was Mr. Tan's grandson who was sick at home.

The class rep immediately contacted all their classmates by phone once he had learned of the news. Zuo Xiaolan was the first to be informed as she was closest to the city that Mr. Tan was living in, and that was also the reason why Zuo Xiaolan broke into tears.

Zuo Xiaolan could no longer sit still. She stood up and began packing her bags, preparing for a trip to City A. No one stopped her, and Ye Nantian began packing his stuff as well. Ye Ci wanted to go along, but she was stopped by Bai Mo.

"All right, I'm going, you stay at home."

"I'll go, you stay." Ye Ci shook her head.

"Forget about it. It's the new year, there are people everywhere. If a little girl like you tags along, uncle has to take care of auntie and you at the same time, don't go and create more burden for him. If I go, at least I'll be able to help out." Bai Mo patted Ye Ci on her shoulders, "Besides, it's the new year! No restaurants are open, what do you want me to eat if I stay home alone?"

Noticing that Ye Ci was about to protest, Ye Nantian spoke up, "Little Ci, just listen to Bai Mo. Stay at home and look after the house."

Since even her parents had spoken, Ye Ci could only agree to it, despite feeling worried.

The trio headed straight for the train station after they were done packing their stuff.

As City A was quite near, they were able to buy tickets for the train quickly and by 3pm they would be on a train to City A. By the time Ye Ci got home from sending the 3 of them off, it was already 2 in the afternoon. She was still worried, and even called Bai Mo and insisted that he call her back the moment they arrived at their destination. After a simple meal, Ye Ci went online.

The game's update was completed.

The update opened the Guild Battle system and the Nemesis system. It meant 2 things: Fate was not afraid of their players fighting, and Fate was encouraging fights between players.

Other than that, one of the most significant updates was the changes in the cities. An exchange bank had appeared unnoticed in almost every city, with new special NPCs. With Red Lake City as an example, an exchange bank appeared right between the shops that Ye Ci had bought, and the city instantly became bustling with life.

There was previously only one exchange bank in the Eastern Continent, situated in Champion City. Players who wished to exchange real world cash with game coins could only perform their transaction in Champion City, no matter where they were from. It was just too money and time consuming to travel to Champion City. With an exchange bank open in every city, players no longer had the need to travel far far away to Champion City.

With that, the player population in Red Lake City soared. After all, there were quite a few maps around the city that yielded a lot of items, as well the presence of several small dungeon clusters nearby. A number of far-sighted guilds had recognised the strategic placing of Red Lake City and moved their guild encampment to such a backwater place, bringing with them prosperity.

As she walked in the packed Western District, Ye Ci's eyes narrowed as she surveyed the shops around the exchange bank. She felt an unspeakable joy in her heart. It was her one true moment when she felt that being someone who reincarnated paid off.

The guild chat was livelier than usual after Bai Mo's advertisement. A lot of players had applied to join Upwards Ho!, adding a lot to the workload for the administrators Icy Cold Little Hands and Timely Rain. Ye Ci had to apologise to them in Bai Mo's stead and explained to them the reason leading to his inactivity.

The duo, however, laughed candidly, "Gongzi, what are you talking about? Having Upwards Ho! being one of the major guilds in Fate has always been our wish."

Feeling guilty that she was unable to help out, Ye Ci directed Overflowing Ink and Mi Lu to tighten up the training schedule of their party members for Upwards Ho!'s push into the Frosty Wasteland Inner Sanctum 5 days later.

After receiving their instruction, the two immediately marshalled their parties and headed to the Frosty Wasteland. Not only were the two good commander material, they were hardworking and eager to learn. They'd managed to forge Upwards Ho! players from a ragtag band of amateurs into a well-oiled fighting machine. Ye Ci had even heard from Bai Mo that they'd cleared the Frosty Wasteland Hard difficulty. This deeply impressed Ye Ci.

As a dummy vice leader, Ye Ci felt that that was the only thing she could do.

She was already lvl 29, which was the bottleneck for Hunters. The main cause for that was the limitations in terms of Talent Points. There was literally nothing special for Hunters during their lvl 29 to lvl 35 stage. This however, did not hinder Ye Ci that much as her Talent Points were way higher than that of an average Hunter.

The second cause was the limitations when it came to skills and abilities. The skill books yielded in the current stage were not good for Hunters. In actuality, all the other classes were affected, but the Hunter class was the one affected the most. Skill books suitable for the current stage were just very rare and their prices were high. Luckily for Ye Ci, her level advantage meant that she was able to acquire the skill book from auctions before everyone else. Despite that, the 2 skill books that were sought after by Ye Ci had not appeared.

One of them was an AOE damage skill called "Random Shot," while the other was a skill used for ambushes and pulling monsters, "Disguise."

Ye Ci refused to believe that not even one of either skill book had dropped. People were just too smart and they knew that skill books were very valuable. This was not a knowledge exclusive to a reincarnator like Ye Ci, but was known by all administrators of the major guilds as well. If they came across such skill books, they would of course store it up. Who in their right mind would sell them away?

The last problem faced by Ye Ci was in terms of pet. One of the key things for a Hunter to be successful was pets. Pets were not that easy to rear in Fate. It would be a waste of time and money if a Hunter would wantonly obtain a pet and in the end it was useless.

As a result, places that spawned Elite monsters would be be crowded with Hunters that were looking for pets.

Ol' Three was a good pet, but he was an Elite Monster from a lvl 10 dungeon. Even if its growth was great, it was less desirable at the lvl 30 milestone. The situation was especially true when Ye Ci was trying to solo a dungeon. Ol' Three could barely tank against the monsters anymore. Ye Ci had planned to find a Pet Tamer to try and evolve Ol' Three as his "Intelligent" attribute was very rare. Unfortunately, Ye Ci had not found any Pet Tamer NPCs.

Her top priority now was to obtain a good pet.

There were a lot of choices for a Hunter's pet. As long as they were wild animals, they could be captured. But animals such as sheep, cows, pigs and rabbits were docile and domesticated, which was why no one would usually make them their choice of pet. Leopards, bears, wolves and spiders were usually a Hunter's favourite.

Ye Ci gave the matter a lot of thought. In her current leveling stage, her best choice was to go to Swamp of Vines and capture a lvl 35 Elite Diseased Crocodile. But to get to the Swamp of Vines, Ye Ci had to travel past a destroyed temples crawling with lvl 40 cyclops. These monsters were adept in seeing through Feigned Death and Disguise. Ye Ci was only lvl 29, it would be suicide for her to venture into the area. Acquiring a crocodile seemed to be a lost cause. Her next choice was to obtain a lvl 35 Tyrannosaurus Rex from the Tropical Rainforest or a lvl 35 Fury Lion in the Greasy Plains.

"However, I think it's time to dig into some actual books like math and such." After saying such, Arthur got up from his chair and left his room, grabbing a simple donut from the fridge and left the house. His destination? The Library! He would grab all novice level books from every subject, read them and fully memorize them! Then, intermediate and then master books!

As he walked towards the library, there were several people who would stop and look at him in awe. 



Arthur reached the library in only five minutes and upon entering, he was asked for his library card. He looked into his pockets and realized he didn't have it. He facepalmed himself and summoned the book and pen. Of course, seeing a book and pen appear out of nowhere would freak anyone out, so the librarian jumped in shock and took some steps back after she saw the book and pen appear in Arthur's hands. He wrote three things within the book.

After signing in, his card was returned and he walked towards the academic section of the library. He grabbed all novice books in math/science/geography. He brought over 20 books to a table, he first said the phrase, "I am one with the world" and then began reading.

In what seemed like an hour to Arthur, 4 days had passed. He had read every single book in regards to math, science, and geography. As he closed the final master level book on geography, he let out a hefty sigh. He summoned his book and pen and began writing down more things.

The Earth will end up in 90% identical solar system and enter an even more suitable orbit with the new sun. In this universe, Mars is within the goldilocks zone and is inhabited by another version of humanity. This version of humanity has the same technologic capabilities of Arthur's Earth.

After Earth has safely traveled through the wormhole, it will collapse in on itself and disappear into nothingness, leaving the solar system safe and sound.]

Somewhere in the universe, six supermassive stars had begun the process of dying. Within a fraction of a second, they collapsed in on themselves, without the support of fusion, their size kept decreasing and decreasing until reaching such a point that they became singularities, where even light could not escape the pull of gravity from these singularities. Six supermassive black holes had formed in the universe and all in one lightyear distance of each other. These blacks did not move, until through some quantum fluctuation space between the black holes shrunk until they were in distance of each other to pull on each other. These six black holes speeded through their gravity pulled on each other and managed to reach 99.99% the speed of light.


Then, they all collided with each other and in a silent and dark explosion, a new hyper black hole was born. The results of this collision were gravitational waves that were sent throughout the universe, creating tears in the universe. Some lead to new universes while others just shredded.

Back on Earth, Arthur had put back the master level books he had just read and then left the library going back home. It was currently 2:42 PM, and it was a nice, sunny day when suddenly... The sky darkened and what seemed to be a giant black dot in the sky appeared. Arthur already knew what this was, but the people of Earth didn't. All across the world, chaos ensued. Religions proclaimed the end times were happening, while scientists were trying their hardest to figure out what was happening. But, before anything could be done. The Earth began moving in the direction of the black dot. Within only an hour, they had entered the dot, and after another hour, they left it and entered another universe. 


The black dot in the sky that switched from the East sky to the West sky slowly disappeared as they moved away from it, entering the orbit of the new sun.

On Mars, Astronomers had just witnessed a whole planet suddenly appear in orbit around the sun! This was quickly reported to the respective Governments of the Astronomers. Then, both Earth and Mars intercepted each other's Signals surprising each planet's civilization to no end!

Arthur, on Earth, was back in his house, sleeping.

One day, when I was reading, I was given a system by a godly figure. What should I do, I asked it. It said, "Whatever you want."

To planetbound people, the notion of space travel required a bit of explanation to figure it out. Despite the immensity of the galaxy, it mostly consisted of empty space with a couple of stars in between. The sheer scale of it caused those 'couple' of stars to pile up into many billions.

It took a lot of time to travel from one star to another, even with FTL. It was not as if FTL travel was too slow, but it took a lot of calculations and precision to nail the right destination. A single percent deviation in the coordinates could throw a ship off-course by hundreds of light-years.

Only through vital port systems could ships speed up their navigation. Like lighthouses in the dark, they allowed distant ships to hone in on a location much easier, with much less risk of overshooting their destination.

A highly advanced vessel such as the Torch of the Vanguard was capable of performing the monstrous calculations necessary to jump over entire states. The moment she entered FTL, she was on course to a star system from a neighboring state. Her modern FTL drive compressed an awe-inspiring distance of dozens of light-years to a mere two-day journey.

Not that Ves, Dietrich or any other passenger paid attention to the ship's incredible speed. Technology such as this was commonplace, though on the expensive side.

Instead, Dietrich half-dragged Ves into one of the vessel's many bars. As it was still universal daytime, the rather plain-looking drinking hole looked rather sparse. Most of the patrons wore the uniform of Townsend Spacelines, their tight collars unzipped and faces relaxed as they enjoyed an off-shift moment.

"Hey there! Two Crincho's please!"

The human bartender poured a couple of beers from the tap and slid it over the counter. Dietrich grabbed one mug and gulped down a generous amount. "Ah, this Crincho is a lot better than the swill in our local joint. Our supplier is ripping us off!"

"It's not very cheap to ship goods over to our planet." Ves said as he took a modest sip, still a bit uncomfortable. "And it's not like our planet is loaded. We can't afford to spend as much as a Bentheimer."

Both of them commiserate for a moment over Cloudy Curtain's pathetic economy. The backwater system lacked a robust industrial base that transformed cheap raw materials into expensive end products. In terms of resources, its asteroid fields only held common junk such as iron ores and ice. The planets also failed to distinguish themselves.

In a universe with billions of stars, humanity did not lack basic resources. Any random corporation could hire a bunch of miners and drop them at a random unclaimed star system. No, what most people paid attention to nowadays were exotic resources, something that became scarce as one left the center of the galaxy. The Bright Republic happened to be situated at the very end of a galactic arm.

"Pssst." Dietrich bumped his elbow into Ves as he nodded towards an incoming pair of passengers. "Chicks spotted at three o'clock."

Ves raised his eyebrow and wanted to say something like 'so what?', but a hand suddenly dragged him from his barstool. The two young men quickly approached the pair of girls.

Though dressed informally, the pair of women looked resplendent. The pair of raven-haired goddesses resembled each other so much they must be sisters. The taller one was sportier and not afraid to show her abs with her exposed midriff. The shorter one dressed more conservatively but had a curvier body. Both of them stopped their conversation and regarded the approaching hunters.

"Hey there beautiful ladies, what brings you here to this fine vessel?"

The girls both giggled behind their raised hands. The elder sister took the lead. "Oh you know, worried parents wanting to send us to somewhere safe."

Dietrich continued to put the moves on the elder sister, obviously leaving the younger one to Ves.

Gulping a little, he said, "Hey. What's your name?"

"Rose. Rose Allemaier."

"What is it you do in life?"

"I'm in my last year of finishing my degree in Terran Ecology. And you?"

"I'm an independent mech designer. I just started my business a few months ago and managed to achieve a couple of sales."

Ves boasted a little about his accomplishments, but Rose's eyes slowly glazed over. Sensing the disinterest, he changed topics. He struggled to catch Rose's interests but couldn't judge if he succeeded.

Meanwhile, Dietrich and the older sister named Piper got along swimmingly. He even put his hand around her hips and drew her closer.

He wished he had brought Lucky along instead of letting him laze about back in the cabin. As Ves conducted a halting conversation with the demure Rose, not making a lot of headway into learning more about the girl.

"It's been fun, but we gotta go back to our parents." Piper said as she bumped her comm against Dietrich's wrist, exchanging contacts. "See you around!"

As the two women left, Dietrich stared at Ves while scratching his head. "Man, seeing the two of you stumble around makes me embarrassed to say you're my friend. Did you grow up in a cave or something?"

"I spent most of my energy on my career. I couldn't afford to get distracted by girls."

The Little Boss gazed at Ves as if he was an alien. "Man, that sounds sad. You should get out more. This is the best time of our lives. Don't wait until you grow wrinkles before you start entering the dating scene. It's far too late by then!"

He blathered on about the art of picking up girls. The man talked with gusto, attracting a couple of other same-minded men who shouted liberal amounts of advice. It turned into a small show where they all attempted to teach the nerd how to get along with the opposite sex.

Ves only half-listened to everyone's drunken words as he focused more on how he should spend his steadily accumulating Design Points. With the infamy of his model driving his sales, he could afford to round out his foundations. Forget about getting in bed with girls, he'd rather jump into a pool of DP.

"Heavens, you're pretty much hopeless. Nevermind." Dietrich concluded as he threw down his empty mug. "Let's go explore the shops. I'm itching to see what fancy things are available here. There might even be some goods that can only be found in the Friday Coalition."

The boulevards lining the main passageways offered high-end products at even higher prices. Every store quoted their prices in coalition credits, or cols for short. One clothing store charged fifty-thousand cols for a single men's outfit, while an ice-cream store offered deluxe flavors at a thousand cols per scoop.

"What's the exchange rate?"

Ves opened his comm and programmed the device to automatically convert every col price in his sights. An overlay inside his eyes unobtrusively added the prices in bright credits.

He swore a bit at the ridiculous rate. "It's almost a hundred to one. Just add two zeroes to every col price you see."

That meant that men's outfit cost five million bright credits. To put it into perspective, Ves could build a quarter of a mech with that much money.

"These guys are fucking extravagant. It puts the money we paid for passage to shame."

"I have a feeling this spaceline never intended to earn a profit from ticket prices in the first place. This is practically a floating city in space. The passengers here are paying to experience life in the Coalition."

If the Torch of the Vanguard was a microcosm of the Coalition, then that meant their total wealth placed them in the lower-middle class in terms of affluence. In other words, they were nobodies.

"With this much money being spent on luxuries, it's a wonder why those second-rate states haven't cleaned up all the third-rate states in the vicinity."

"It's not worth it. The money needed to maintain their standard of living is unsustainable when compared to the amount of wealth they are able to generate from our poorer territories."

That was the simple explanation. Ves had no doubt other concerns held back these second-rate behemoths. Still, the words he said still rang true. Without sufficient exotic resources, the second-rate states had no reason to expand their territories. It was like annexing a trash heap. It stank and ruined their views.

The high prices ruined their mood for window shopping. They separated from each other as Ves wanted to return to his cabin. With his safety guaranteed to an extent, Dietrich was free to explore the underbelly of the ship where various kinds of bloodsports and duels were held.

"Have fun down there, and don't get pulled into any bets. I still need you to accompany to Leemar and back you know."

"Sure, sure, I'll be fine mom." Dietrich rolled his eyes. "You've got my comm, so holler at me if you need some muscle."

"I'm sure the ship's security can handle most incidents. Though the chances aren't big, I'm more concerned about pirates and other raids. If you haven't noticed, the local star sector seems to be growing more unsettled."

Having followed the news, Ves learned the incident in Bentheim was not an isolated event. Various other third-rate states suffered from similar unsettling incidents. One planet had its fuel refinery explode, causing massive damage along with an excruciating loss of life.

What Ves found peculiar was that the groups that executed these terror attacks all looked different. The group that struck Bentheim agitated against the corrupt galactic corporations that supposedly puppeted the Bright Republic from the shadows. As for another terror group in another state, they fought for the rights of exploited miners.

"If anyone believes these guys are not related to each other, then I'll eat my comm."

He stopped wasting time on catching up with the news and turned to the MTA instead. As an organisation that dealt with all things mechs, it offered plenty of services to mech designers. Ves had already dealt with certification. Now he planned to access their open library.

"It's already generous for Director Chandler to give me a couple of books for free. He taught me there's still much to learn about the universe from books."

Naturally, knowledge taught by an able teacher could not replace rote memorization. The books available in the open library also had its limits. As Ves logged in the MTA's virtual library section, he had access to many books. However, he already saw that most focused on the fundamentals and core knowledge. Cutting-edge proprietary knowledge was wholly absent from the library.

"Luckily I don't have to rely on others to develop my specializations. The basics are good enough for me. Referencing the library will also create a paper trail for me to explain my sudden improvements in mechanics and other skills."

As he recently improved his Mechanics skill to journeyman, he wanted to stabilize his newly achieved realm by reading supplementary books. He filtered out most books concerning other topics and only limited himself to the best-selling primers at journeyman level.

Jurren quickly adjusted to life with the old mage. Melstron was very easy going and a little absent minded. Most of the chores weekends done by the myriad of magical items that he had developed over the years.
After that first meal together, it was almost a month before Jurren saw him again. Chores were taken care of and he had unlimited access to the books that Melstron had collected, but the old mage had lost her himself in an experiment with mana infused stones.
During that first month, Jurren made a lot of progress in preparing his foundation for future study. Farren's description of this world had been extremely superficial, but Melston's library had books on almost every subject imaginable. 
Aside from a couple of bedrooms and a kitchen, most of the tower was nothing but libraries and laboratories. With nothing better to do, this is where he spent his time. 
Rather quickly, Jurren noticed that something was different. Before transmigrating, he was a decent enough student, but now he only had to glance at something once to remember it completely. Outside of a photographic memory, his comprehension, and thought speed had been increased exponentially. He could even think about a couple hundred things at the same time without breaking a sweat.
Whenever it seemed that he had reached a stopping point in his studies, Melston would take a break for a day or two. During these breaks they would discuss topics ranging from geography to magical engineering. Then they would each return to their respective projects.
In this method, days, weeks, months, and finally years passed.
"How long have you been here?" Melston inquired one day.
"Hmm. Not sure," Jurren admitted. After a couple of months, he had really lost himself in his study of magic related topics and had completely ignored the outside world. 'When was the last time that I even left this tower? Is this Melston's influence?'
"Give me a minute," Melston said, reaching for a calendar-like tool and flipped through it before stopping with a flabbergasted expression.
"What is it?" Jurren asked, slightly worried.
"It has been over two decades," Melston gasped.
"Oh, is that all?"
"Have you looked in a mirror lately?"
"No, why?"
"You haven't aged a day in two decades. You still look like a silver haired, green eyed boy of thirteen," Melston cried. "Even Elvin children would change a little in that time."
"Is it something that I need to worry about?" Jurren asked after a moment of thought.
"Maybe not," the old mage sighed. "but it is curious."
"Really?" Jurren asked in confusion. He had never really thought of himself as different from anyone else in this world 
"You haven't really met anyone other than me, have you?" Melston realized.
"Well, no," Jurren admitted. In a way, it was true. He had let the old elf think that he was a child that had lost his memory.
"I think that it is time that you go out and get to know the world," the old elf said after a moment of thought. "Not that I am trying to kick you out. I think of you as my own son, but I think that you need to go out and get to know the world."
"I think that you are right," Jurren agreed after a moment of thought. He still remembered his dream to travel and explore the world. He had just gotten a little distracted by his magic studies.
After that, the pair was engrossed in plans for his journey. Melston's tower was several weeks travel by foot from the nearest town and that was just an Outpost on the edge of the 'known' world. After that, he would travel to one of the more popular adventurering towns and register. That would help him gain funds and travel between various countries.
"Are you sure that you have everything?" Melston asked worriedly the next day.
"I'll be fine. Don't worry," Jurren laughed at the old elf's nagging. Over the years they had developed a close relationship.
"Oh, that his," Melston said suddenly, throwing an additional magic bag.
Jurren had made his own magic bag, as well as a number of magic tools and potions over the years So, he looked questioningly at the bag.
"It just has a few letters of recommendation and some funds. It should make your journey easier," Melston explained.
Jurren's eyes teared up at the old elf's words. Overcome by the emotions welling up within him, he dashed over and hugged the mage. After a time, he turned around and walked into the wilderness.

Walking quickly, Jurren made quick progress for most of the day and didn't encounter anything until evening. Just as the sun was setting, he met a monster for the first time in his life.
Arriving with a sound of thunder, an enormous, red dragon dropped to the ground in front of him.
"Oh? This is surprising," Jurren commented calmly, dodging a blast of fire that the dragon released. 'Now what was the name of that spell again? [Wind Ax]?'
Instantly, a giant blade of wind dropped from the sky, decapitating the beast. For a second, a was silent.
