Alex was impressed by her. A good-looking and charming young lady. He went on to his world of thriller books. As usual, he started choosing a book. Presently, he was into Dan Brown books. Such a classy writer! Alex always thought about the work, the writer should've done, inorder to complete the book. And he felt Dan Brown outruns most of the authors in that aspect. He took out Digital Fortress from the collection and went over to his usual seat, near the glass window.
After spending an hour on the book, he went to the librarian to request a borrowal, before leaving. Catherine grinned at him. "Where are you from? ", Alex asked her. "I live nearby, just 5 blocks from here", she replied. "Oh, I thought you were transferred from a long way to here", Alex said. "No, I'm new to the profession. And I was lucky enough to grab an opportunity in this library", she answered his doubt. "Ok. I would like to borrow this book...", Alex continued and took a few minutes to leave the library. He discovered a newfound liking for Catherine. He found her extremely beautiful and charming. Alex walked back home, thinking about Digital Fortress, but with intervening thoughts of Catherine from time to time.

Elyon knew that "Romance" is not his strong point. He writes a fantasy story with romance, but he can't tell if the romance will be able to attract female readers. Out of curiosity, he asked some of his fellow authors the question "Why do you read romance stories?"

Here are their answers…

Kyosei: Because I am single. 

Reili: To fill my empty void of a love life.

Minrei: Because romance let you feel what is to be loved, plus it is universal you dont need to learn magic or cultivation in order to read.

Bajj: Due to lack of romance irl.

Murakami: I read because I enjoy the friction and conflict between the FL and ML. The insistence vs resistance is naisu.

Qin: I reads romance only for ideas and info.

VlassisBehrakis: I don't read romance novels.

Elyon then  ̶a̶m̶b̶u̶s̶h̶e̶d̶ asked some readers about their opinion about romance novels.

Yin: I read romance novels because I want that kind of drama to happen to me in real life. But I know it will never happen haha.

A Certain Irresistible Meowlin: I wonder why? And I do read romance novels. Though the chance of me dropping them is also the highest out of all the genres. Every so often I come across a scene that makes me just want to squeal and fangirl.

Elyon decided to dig deeper and asked a few of his senior "romance authors" some questions about their reason for writing romance stories.

The first question is… Why did you choose to write Romance Stories?

Anjeeriku: I'm comfortable writing romance stories compared to other genres. I'm a helpless romantic person and I like novels that can invoke other people's feelings.

Bajj: First of all, I like reading romance story. It was the reason why I read books before and reading other genres comes after. All in all, due to these romance fiction books, I got the opportunity to read more great books with different genre.

MishaK: That's what I read, so write that too.

Zehell2218: Because as reader, I want to read romance novel so when I write, I write romance since my motto is I write what I want to read.

Ikazainudin: The easiest genre. Everyone can relate.

End_of_Era: It wasn't a full on Romance, it was slice of life with romance which I feel was necessary with progression of the characters.

The second question… When you were making your ML and FL, did you imagine yourself as the lead of your story at any given point in time?

Anjeeriku: I would be a liar if I said no. There were instances that I'd put myself in my FL's shoes. Whenever that happens, my writing feels more passionate and truthful that sometimes it was hard to know where my fl starts and where I end. 

Shen Yi, LMD's ML was based on a person I've lost, The One That Got Away so it was sometimes hard not to self-insert whenever there were scenes that need to invoke feelings from readers. 

Bajj: I believe that every character the author was making and breathing life into it, a part of him/her is added to its character. But me imagining of being the ML/FL, never. I'm too pure for that. Kek

MishaK: Yes I did but sometimes. Otherwise you can't infuse emotions in your characters. It is important to understand your characters.

Zehell2218: Yes, I imagine myself as the lead. Of course, I tweak it a bit, such as in age and appearance. But mostly, the characteristics is similar to me.

Ikazainudin: FL and ML character based on what I want to be irl. Yup. I imagine that will be my love story.

End_of_Era: Yes, my leads had some ocassional self insertion.

The third question… If you were to choose some other genre aside from romance, what would you pick?

Anjeeriku: Fantasy. I always look up to those authors who can write fantasy stories/novels well. I believe writing a fantasy novel is harder than writing romance.

Hello Guys! I hope you enjoyed this chapter of WWCG. Personally, I've read a few CEO novels myself. I also read some FL stories like A Slight Smile Is Devastating (Love O2O), Hidden Marriage, Doomed to be Cannon Fodder, Transmigrator meets Reincarnator, A Mistaken Marriage Match: A Generation of Military Counselor, There Is an Angel in That Church (short story), Eight Treasures Trousseau, Grabbing Your Hand, Dragging you Away, A Mistaken Marriage Match: Record of Washed Grievances…

Ai~ there's a few more that I won't add to the list because it will create a wall of text. Well anyways, the reason why I read these stories is to get an idea on "WHY" the ladies love to read them.

Let's just say that it's a unique way to see a world in the eye of a lady (if you are a man of course). When done properly, the execution of the story can capture the hearts of anyone, even male readers. I believe that no matter what gender you are, as long as you find the story interesting then it doesn't matter whether you are a guy or a gal no?

Perhaps, when I'm not too busy to write my stories, I'll once again pick a romance novel to read. Hopefully, I will find another hidden gem that will bring unexpected surprises to anyone who are lucky enough to find them.

I guess I can't keep you away, can I...? Oh well since that's the case I might as well tell you how I got trapped in a book. 

First things first, my name is Dequan DeSilva and no I'm not black. I'm 22 years of age and a world-renown Author. I wrote the thriller, "Within the mind?" After writing it, I gave the unpublished notes to an Editor I know, Stella Bianchi. She is a close friend of mine, truthfully it's up to her to decide if we can ever be more... Anyway, she fixed all my mistakes as grammar and I aren't best friends. Then I self-published the book much to my friend's disapproval. I was told that self-publishing is a mistake but a month after I published the book; it rose in fame and then became the best seller. A month after that, I was on famous talk shows, podcasts, tv series, the works. My book was hailed as the scariest book of all time, in fact, some people called it borderline psychotic; the way I made the protagonist go through hell and back, literally.

Nobody could get enough of it. Everyone wanted to know where I drew my inspiration from.
I loved that question, it allowed me to make my book seem deeper than it was... You see, I drew my inspiration while smoking weed. Drew inspiration for a thriller while smoking weed? Yes, I know how that sounds so I'll explain. I belong to the small group of weed smokers called The Schizophrenic Smoker. While everybody gets good trips, I always and no matter what get bad trips. You see I believe weed traps you within your mind and my mind is not a place anybody wants to be confined in. Anyway, going through one of those trips served as inspiration for my book. Despite the good outcome, it was one of the worst days of my life. So on that day, I vowed to myself that I would NEVER smoke again. 

At least that's what I thought... About a year later, I was hanging with a few friends at my party. We were outside in the garden with a dim light shining above us and the music blaring. We were all inebriated but my oldest and best friend Dylan Valentine lived this lifestyle daily. So he had a higher tolerance and wanted to feel a buzz of a higher level. He stood up from his camping chair and took a blunt from the back pocket of his jeans. Then he lit it, took a puff and passed it on in the circle we were now standing in. Of course, when it came to me, I refused so it went past me. However, when it came my way again, Dylan convinced me to take one puff, "What's the worst that could go wrong?" he, said smiling innocently. In the end, I accepted, we were all here to celebrate my books first movie adaptation, I didn't want to ruin the fun. I was inebriated so I wasn't in the best condition to make logical decisions. Anyway, holding the spliff in my hands, I put the paper to my mouth and pulled on it until my lungs were full. Immediately, I coughed as a burning sensation filled my lungs. Over and over I coughed until I didn't anymore... Instead, I found myself laughing for no reason. I laughed so hard my sides were hurting. Not only that but I was feeling amazing. Everything felt so calm. The world slowed down. I felt warm and cosy as if my body was a heater. The wind was caressing my face. The music playing came alive in a way I have never experienced before. And the food! Ah, the food was bliss! I sat with my eyes clothes bitting into the meat as the flavours my mind couldn't comprehend danced on my tongue. Throughout the whole process, I grinned. I know how weird I must have looked but I didn't care. This was heaven.

But then things began changing. Abruptly and without warning my dopamine enriched state vanished. It was then replaced with absolute terror. My heart began pounding as a cold sweat secreted from my body making the warmth I felt disappear. I began shivering because it was cold and because I was scared. Immediately I opened my red eyes, forcing them open. I wanted to see what was happening in the outside world. 

I am a lowkey a chuunibyou, so I'm convinced that the THC is giving me a heightened 6th sense. That this is my bodies survival instinct telling me that I'm going to die soon. So I kept looking to the left and then to the right. Using my heightened senses as a call of duty gamer, my eyes kept watching. Sometimes I could swear I saw something but it would vanish as I looked in its direction. I was terrified and my heart was pounding. Then suddenly the temperature dropped. Upon this realisation, I gulped as I sat dead still in my chair. Fear patterned all over my face. I shut my eyes tightly and held my breath. And after a while, the cold sensation went away. I heaved a heavy sigh of relief. 

Seeing what just happened, I decided to go home. I couldn't stay here anymore. I wanted to be in a safe environment, 'This feels like hell,' Sigh, honestly I wished I never thought that. You see, I'm not Christian but I was raised in a Christian household. So somewhere deep down I believe that heaven and hell exist. Because of that, I'm was convinced that I was in hell. That this is the devil's way of playing mind games with me. That somehow, I had died and this was him showing me my mistakes. As I thought that, I fell into the darkness of my mind. Then I stood up and walked to Dylan, "Bruuuh, I'm having a bad trip. I'm kak scared (1)!" However, Dylan just laughed, "Bro, you got to relax. Enjoy the trip," Seeing that he wasn't taking me seriously I gripped his arm tightly, "How do I make this feeling go away!" 

When Dylan heard I wanted the feeling to go away, he looked at me and furrowed his eyebrows. He glared at me and then he told everyone it was time to go. They all got up and went inside leaving me outside. Now that I was alone my mind began wandering even deeper, "What if I am in hell and my friends are actually demons? And instead of leaving they preparing a way to kill me." Again my heart began pounding as the sense of impending doom towered over me. When I felt my 6th sense activate, I knew I had to get out of here before they came back. Immediately I yanked my phone out of my pocket. In my hand, the phone was bouncing as my hands quivered. Then I tapped the taxi app and called one to my current location. I looked at the arrival time and it was 2 minutes. Seeing it, I almost felt giddy with relief, "I just need to wait here a bit and then I'll be safe... " After 30 seconds I realized that I didn't need to wait here. I could just wait outside. 

So I made a break for it. I might not be black but I wasn't white either. I wasn't going to let my curiosity kill me like in the movies. Holding my phone in my hands, I ran to his house's front gate. But as soon as I touched the gate, Dylan came outside and stood 4 meters behind me. Then he smiled at me, "You weren't in the backyard so I came here. Don't leave so soon we threw this party for you." He smiled again.

I listened to what he said and then turned around to his smile. No matter which way I looked, the smile seemed sycophantic. I took a deep breath and then I saw a shiny silver object in his right hand.  I gulped at the knife in his right hand. A wave of fear washed over me as my body tensed, trapping the air in my lungs.

Dylan saw me looking at the knife and smiled, "Oh this thing, haha. It's to cut the cake. Come to the back with me so we can celebrate." He said with a smile while he was waving the knife in the air and walking closer to me.

Seeing him walk closer to me, the colour drained from my face. I immediately turned around and tried to put my key into the lock. My hands were shivering so it was difficult. Dylan was getting closer to me too still waving the knife in his hands like a mad man. After a few tries, I finally get the key in the lock then I twist the key unlocking the door. But Dylan was right behind so I ran right through the gate. Luckily it opened outward and not inwards. I ran but I didn't get away cleanly. On my jacket was a cut from the knife. 

While I ran outside I heard Dylan scream, "Sorry I didn't mean to cut you. I'm drunk as fuck."

Of course, I didn't buy that so I ran down the street until I saw my taxi. Immediately, I waved my hands trying to get him to stop. The taxi stopped and I climbed inside, "Are you Dequan?" He said looking at me with a puzzled expression. I could tell he thought I would be black but I didn't have the energy to entertain the idea. I had just escaped from being murdered or I just made a fool out myself. Nonetheless, if If I ever had to face this situation again, I would do the same thing. Actually, instead of listening to Dylan at the gate, I will make a break for it, asap! But for now, I was safe. I heaved a sigh of relief and sunk my back into the chair and closed my eyes.

After I had closed my eyes for a few seconds, I felt a familiar cold wind on my face. I furrowed my eyebrows, 'This driver better close his damn window!' I opened my eyes fully intended on letting him have it but the scene before my eyes gave me the chills! I was no longer in a car, instead, I was sitting in a camping chair, in a backyard. I gulped inwardly, 'What am I doing back here? I was just in the car, I was in a safe place! I am in hell aren't I!?' I looked to the left and then to the right. My eyes kept seeing things but they would disappear when I laid eyes upon them. Then out of nowhere, a bone-chilling coldness stood over. My body tensed up and I shut my eyes tightly. But after a few seconds, it went away and I sighed in relief. 

By now I was a hundred percent certain that I was somehow living the same event again. Everything was the same. The things disappearing when I looked at them and then the spectre that was on top of me. I was certain but somehow I knew this wasn't me travelling back into time. I knew because I didn't feel in complete control of my body. It was almost as if I was a spectator in the first person. Like I was having a stronger form of Deja Vu. I've never been a fan of Deja Vu. When it happens I always think I'm going to die soon and that was the last glimpse of my life flashing before my eyes. Naturally, after thinking this, I began panicking. I stood up and then I went to Dylan, "Bruuuh, I'm having a bad trip. I'm kak scared!"

Dylan just laughed, "Bro, you got to relax. Enjoy the trip," But just like before, I didn't leave it at that instead, I insisted that he find a way to make it stop. He then glared at me and called everyone inside his house. After that the paranoia gripped me and I wanted to make a clean break. I called a taxi and then as I stood by the gate, Dylan came out, "You weren't in the backyard so I came here. Don't leave so soon we threw this party for you." He said smiling ingratiatingly.

I had yet to try and take control of this body and this time I wanted to but then I wondered. The last time this happened, I never died. What if I try and change that and then I tip him off that I'm scared of him and then he kills me? Yes, the normal way is scary but if I do exactly what I did before I at least won't die. Coming to this conclusion, I did just that. I let the story play out just like it did last time and before I knew it I was back in the car. I heaved a sigh of relief. However, I noticed that I didn't resume full control of my body. My heart began pounding again. If I was following what happened before wouldn't that mean once I closed my eyes, I would find myself back in the backyard? I was currently in a huge bind. I didn't want to go back there. Yes, if I followed the same events, I would stay safe. But if this was hell wouldn't that mean that they already know that I know? But if I were to keep my eyes open then maybe this driver would be the one to kill me. So in the end, I know of one surefire way that doesn't kill me and that was to close my eyes and sink into the seat of the car. I did just that and just like before I was back in the backyard. 

Opening my eyes, I wanted to cry. Was I ever going to escape this nightmare? Would I always be confined to this moment until I broke time just to get killed? Was this the devil's way of wearing me down mentally until all I wanted was to die? This repeating event happened another two times before I broke free from it. I didn't break free because I tried something new but because I was a coward and followed the same route. 

Coming out the loop I found myself at home. All the lights were off and I wasn't going to turn them on either. There was no point, I was going to go to bed and then sleep. Hopefully, by tomorrow the THC would have worn off and then everything would go back to normal. I walked past the dining table and then on it was my book, "Within the mind," I wondered what it was doing there because I can't remember putting it there but I eventually wrote the thought off. I must have put it there somehow. It's not like it just magically got there so that I would see it when I came home tonight. 

I walked into my room and then switched on the lights. In front of me was my bed. I had one nightstand on the right. I snuggled into bed leaving the light on. But before I went to bed I wanted to read the last part of my book. I was scared but reading about how someone had it even worse would make me feel good, "Nothing a bit of schadenfreude can't fix." 

I paged to the last four pages and began reading. Seeing the absolute peril the mc was in was hilarious. I had to admit, I was a savage to him. I didn't even give him a decent fighting chance... I shook my head and continued to read as the fear began to leave me. Once I finished reading the book, I looked at the synopsis of my book. I was proud of mine. Most authors just slapped a review there, I actually had a good one. It made people want to know what was going to happen without spoiling anything. Feeling proud of myself I decided to read it again, "Mc speaking over here. You are one twisted fuck you know that! You didn't give me a fighting chance. You only kept me alive just so that I could go through more scary crap much to your amusement! But I'm done! Every time someone read this book I was forced to live the same thing over and over again. As a bestseller, how many times do you think that was!? But I'm done now. Now it's time for you to experience this nightmare. Haha! You already had to experience a time loop right? Now you going to have it so much worse!"

As I read those words I furrowed my eyebrows. That was not my synopsis. Was this some kind of joke!? Anger started welling up inside me. Someone was clearly playing with me! They put this book in my house for me to get when I came home. How they knew I would read it immediately I don't know. Maybe they didn't they just hoped I read it sometime. Thinking about the new synopsis made my nose flare. So I threw the book down and then I went to sleep. Tomorrow everything would be normal...

BOOM! 

I woke up with a jolt at the sound of a bomb exploding. I immediately got out of bed and went to my living room. I had an ugly feeling in my gut but I wouldn't dare think it true until I saw it. When I got there I saw that section of my house up in flames. My walls were scorched and the debris was falling from the roof and walls. The heavy smoke was burning my eyes and my lungs. I coughed a few times and then rubbed my eyes. A few fires were burning on the ground but nothing that couldn't be controlled.

Looking at the aftermath of the explosion I gulped. It looked just like how I envisioned it when I wrote the book. I had designed my house like the house in the book. It was my dream house after all. Anyway, looking at the aftermath my heart began thumping... Was I really in the book? No, it can't be because if that was true then after this explosion another explosion will ring out but in the house next to mine, killing everyone inside. Since that hasn't hap-

BOOM!

Hearing the explosion in the distance I struggled to swallow the air as I gulped. It's just a setup, you aren't really in the book. Someone is trying hard to recreate these events, I tried to convince myself. If this really was in the book then the next thing I should hear is the screech of that beast. Since those creatures don't exist in this world their little charade ends he-

SCREECH!

I hear the screech of the monster and my heart dropped. As much as I didn't want to believe I was somehow in my book, I couldn't deny it was plausible. And if it this was the same as the book then that meant the creature was coming after me. Normally any sane person would run after learning this. But for me as the author, I know that if I run I will definitely die. You see, in this creature is something that I have to obtain otherwise I will not survive. 

Realizing what I had to do, I went up to my room and fetched my gun. I only have three bullets so I have to make them count. But I am as ready as can be. Now I just have to wait for the monster. Moments later the monster bursts into my house breaking the walls as it walked. I look at it and I almost throw up. It is a monstrosity of monstrosities. But it's something I have to kill if I want to survive!
