Li Lanni's class had successfully completed the first volume of the comic they were drawing.
Today, they started the second volume. 
As usual, after the lecture was done, the professor asked them to draw the comics for the second volume based on the story they were asked to read. While they were doing so, the professor walked around the classroom, silently assessing the comics made by the students. 
'This batch of students have improved a lot' the professor was delighted when he saw the paintings. Each one of them was unique and creative.
But then he stopped next to Li Lanni with a frown when he saw her painting. This girl… 
To avoid making her feel humiliated, he waited until the class ended, then called her to his office and questioned her. "Have you really read the novel and understood it?" 
Li Lanni nodded, wondering why he would ask such a question. They were in the second volume already. Wasn't that a given? 
"Really? I don't think you have really understood it enough. Because if you had, you would know that the novel is quite a happy one. Your comic wouldn't hold such darkness." 
Darkness? Li Lanni thought back to her comic. 
"It is easier for people who have read the original novel to overlook such a plot error. However, new readers will misunderstand it. As I said before, you should put yourself into character every time you make a sketch. Also, this is not the only problem I have noticed in your drafts. I am disappointed to say this, but your performance has significantly deteriorated since you first joined the class. While the others are improving, you are seriously lagging behind. Are you experiencing some problems? If you have some problems, you can share it with me." Though his words were condemning, his voice was gentle.
"No…" Li Lanni frowned, all this seeming new to her. When had she not put herself into character? 
"I will not take up too much of your time, but I haven't expected this results from you, who hwas the grand winner in the previous painting contest. Go on and think about it." The tutor said with a gentle smile. He hesitantly added, "You should know that no matter how much effort you put in something if you are being forced into it, all your efforts will be futile." 
"Thank you, sir. However, I'm not being forced into anything. I willingly joined this class." 
When Li Lanni left his office, the first thing she did was open her locker and take out all the drafts to take a look. These were just copies, she kept the originals at home but had copies in the studio locker for reference. 
She checked through them from the first chapter. At first, there wasn't any change. But from the fourth chapter, she began to notice that what the tutor had said was true. Seriously, if one were to see her latest chapter, there was no one would believe that she had joined the class by winning a contest. 
More importantly, it looked like the story had strayed from the original. If the dialogue were to be added, it was sure that it would look misplaced. 
But hadn't she been working hard? 
What went wrong?

Later in the afternoon,
Ji Xiehan completed his work earlier, pushed the less urgent documents aside before leaving his office. He would work on them later at night.
After asking Lin Jian and being laughed at for half an hour, he finally got his way around finding the least frequented movie theater. He had selected a popular movie more suitable for female audiences and booked tickets. 
All the previous times, he had got her to go out with him using schemes and tricks. This was the first time she had willingly agreed to go somewhere with him. This should be considered their first official date, right? 
So he followed Lin Jian's advice and found a present. He already had one; the bracelet he had bought her when they went shopping but didn't have the chance to give it to her. 
He wore the watch that was a match with it and took the bracelet with him. 
Feeling more confident, he let out the breath he didn't realize he was holding and went to pick Li Lanni up. 
The girl didn't make him wait too long. Two minutes after he sent her a text, he saw her exit the villa, wearing a blue dress that matched the color of his tie. 
He couldn't help smiling. What a sweet coincidence. 
"Did I keep you waiting?" She asked, her eyes staying on his tie for a few seconds. 
"No. I just arrived. You look beautiful." 
She blushed and unknowingly tightened her fists. "T-thank you." She had dressed up for him. It would be disappointing if she didn't look beautiful. She was happy that he liked it, and was even more pleased that their clothes were a complementing match. They looked just like a couple in love. Though she refused to accept it, she was delighted inside.
Once they were at the movies, he went ahead to buy snacks as she waited for him. "I booked tickets for a teenage drama 'Our Youthful Love.' I didn't know what kind of movies you liked, so I asked some of my female colleagues, and everyone said this was a nice one." He informed. 
"Haha…" When Li Lanni heard him say, she broke into a peal of laughter.
"What's so funny?" he was puzzled by her sudden laughter. 
Li Lanni burst into another round of laughter. "Haha..oh my god...haha..I can't control myself ..haha..Your face when you said the name of the movie was amusing." 
Ji Xiehan laughed at himself too. It was just that he was a little unsure. After buying the tickets for the teenage drama, he only later realized that it was full of fluffy romance. Then he remembered that when they talked about online novels, she mentioned a few that she liked. Those were all detective novels, and even if there were some romance ones, the main theme was a crime. 
Most people liked the same genre of movies and novels, so she should like detective and mystery, right?
But then again, she played otome games once in a while. So he didn't know whether to change the tickets or not. 
Li Lanni figured out why he was confused. She felt happy that he prioritized her choice. "I'm not really picky with what I read or watch. I only do it to pass the time, so you should have chosen what you like instead." 
"Then let's watch the teenage drama. I've never watched one before." He happily led the way, and she instinctively clung to his arm because he had popcorn and coke in both hands. 
They took a seat close to the front. They were quite early, so there were only a handful of people aside from them.


"Little troubleshooter, we meet again. If you are still thinking of trying to get away, you better give up that silly idea." Ji Xiehan said, pinning her against the wall. 
Li Lanni pushed her fists against his chest. "Is this how you say hi to all your interviewers, Mr. Ji?" 
"There is no interviewer and certainly no interviewee." The man grinned devilishly. "There is only a husband and a wife. My darling, how are you going to compensate for all the emotional damage you caused me by slipping away?" 
"What?" Heavens... just what had she gotten herself into?

Her life almost came to an end because of a tragic accident but instead, she lost her memory. 
Who would have thought that just when she she was starting to get used to her new life, she would get trapped in a whirlwind engagement? 

Out of all kinds of injustice fate could do to her, why did her fiancé have to be that white-haired pervert?! 

" You better not fall in love with me!" she snarled at the man grinning before her. 
Ji Xiehan's smile deepened. "Are you... kidding me? Why would I fall in love with you?" 
Li Lanni: "You better mark your words." 
The man grinned. Of course I will not fall in love with a woman I already love. I'm keeping my promise, right?
Ji Xiehan took up the challenge to crawl into her heart.

These are some of the popular novels which we know. Each of them is very unique in it's own way and have become popular in it's own right. It would be incorrect to call them a failure, as they have correctly captured their intended audience – the Japanese teenage audience. However, when thinking about a broad perspective, these novel become obsolete when it competes on a global level with other web novels, and the majority of the reason for their deficiency is simple – the Protagonist in these novels is a typical Japanese light novel protagonist, who is naïve and a dumb virgin idiot. It is as if he has never received any sex education, and would always talk some naïve things which do not match with his current situation. Their behavior is somewhat correct given that these protagonists are usually high school kids, but the readers have difficulty accepting such an immature protagonist.

Web novels are about accumulating wealth, women and power. So when a reader reads the protagonist behaving like a dumb virgin when a girl approaches him, or when he does not actively seek wealth and power, the reader is bound to get angry and disappointed.

A good example can be found in the following example :

In Tsuki ga Michibiku, the Protagonist Makoto establishes a business half-heartedly, and his business is more like charity to the hyumans, the same hyumans the majority of whom treat him like sh*t and had killed his subordinates. Instead of developing his Asora realm, where we might have enjoyed him developing a realm and being a king or even god, he keeps roaming throughout the world unnecessarily.

Also, he had two beautiful subordinates who are eager to have sex with him, but apparently he sees them as 'sisters' or 'family', so he cannot do that. (Perhaps he has not read any incest hentai, or heard of Kiss X Sis)

Note that this is not just about sex, as there was a very broad scope for plot development in Tsuki ga Michibiku. For example, Makoto could have properly developed the Asora realm, showing us some world building and kingdom building. He could even have married Tomoe and Mio and their kids would have been demi gods who would do various mischiefs in the hyuman realm. There might have even been wars of Asora vs hyumans.

In short, the Japanese protagonists have disappointing characteristics on a global scale, and are not entertaining to read.

* SOLUTION FOR ALL THIS…

Japanese isekai novels have good would building (from light novel and web novel perspective), and this fact cannot be ignored.

My idea is simple, that is to write a fan fiction of a pre-existing light novel or use the basic ideas and rewrite the novel, the only change being the utterly virgin protagonist. The protagonist would simply be 'de-virginized' and re-introduced. This change might seem small but actually opens up a lot of routes for novel writing. (as in Tsuki ga Michibiku example)

The protagonists in these isekai novels are already powerful, and if they are re-written of as being mature, smart and driven by ambition, then they would become warlords, making the story even more interesting to read.

She settled into a faded armchair in an out of the way corner that had a decent view of the computer cubicles and pretended to read the top book in her pile. She could tell from the way several of the computer users had their belongings sprawled across the desk—one had even removed his shoes—that they would be in place for a long while. The most promising station was being used by a teenage girl with a stack of reference books and a harried expression. The girl didn't seem to be checking social media—she was actually writing down titles and authors generated by search engine. While she waited, Chris kept her head bent over her book, which she had nestled in the crook of her left arm. With the razor blade hidden in her right hand, she neatly sliced off the magnetic sensor taped to the spine and stuffed it into the crevice between the cushion and the arm of the chair. Feigning a lack of interest, she moved on to the next book in the pile.

Chris was ready, her denuded novels already Stowed away in her backpack, when the teenage girl left to go find another source. Without jumping up or looking like she'd rushed, Chris was in the chair before any of the other lingering hopefuls even realised their chance had passed.

Actually checking her email usually took about three minutes.

After that, she would have another four hours, if she wasn't driving evasively, to get back to her temporary home. Then of course the reassembly of her safeguards before she could finally sleep. Email day was always a long one.


Though there was no connection between her present life and this email account—no repeat IP address, no discussion of places or    names—as soon as she was done reading and, if the occasion called for it, answering her mail, she would be out of the door speeding out of town, putting as many miles between herself and this location as possible. Just in case.

Inside a forest in the Zhou Mountains, a teenage boy sat in a daze under the shade of a tree, away from the scorching heat of summer.

Across from him was another teenage boy, his bruised fists wrapped up with strips of cloth as he threw punch after punch against an iron tree, uncaring of the summer heat.

Aside from their somewhat differing physiques, if one were to look closely, they'd discover that these two looked very similar. Unsurprisingly, these two were brothers.

The minutes flowed by and after god knew how long, the punching boy finally exhausted himself and leaned upon a nearby tree. Taking out some herbs, he smeared some onto his wounded fists and kneaded while glancing over the dazed boy with a strange look, "Lin An, what are you dazing about for? It's almost been an hour already."

As if he finally snapped out of it, the dazed Lin An looked over as well and asked carefully, "Brother Ming?"

The confused Brother Ming raised a brow quizzically, "What?"

Brother An's eyes suddenly wide as if in disbelief, "Brother... Lin Ming? We really are brothers?"

"Lin An, what are you up to this time?" As if to confirm his question, Lin Ming asked back in an annoyed manner.

"Holy crap!"

About an hour or so earlier, Lin Ming and his brother were doing their daily routine when for some unfathomable reason, Lin An suddenly collapsed. At first, he thought this was another one of Lin An's spontaneous pranks, but after a minute of being unconscious on the dirt-filled ground, he began to worry.

However, when he rolled the 'unconscious' body of Lin An, what greeted him instead was the sight of a lewdly smiling face. To his dismay, he realized that he'd been tricked once again.

After which, Lin Ming ignored his brother and resumed his training.

However, the truth was that Lin An didn't collapse on purpose nor was he doing one of his spontaneous pranks either. Rather, it was more accurate to say that the Lin An of today was no longer the Lin An of yesterday.

At the end, he even heard a divine sound he'd only read about in the novels in his past life.

Just as he was about to answer, that was when Lin Ming interrupted him and confirmed all of his newfound memories.

He actually crossed over to the world of Martial World.

With some effort, Lin An managed to calm himself down as muttered quietly, "So I am Lin An? Weird, isn't Lin Ming an only child?"

"What nonsense are you spouting? You should start training already!" Lin Ming rebuked. Sighing deeply, he said, "Father and Mother are already struggling to support us both so we can pursue our dreams, you should at least put more effort so you'll be accepted in the Seven Profound Martial House."

Lin An went quiet as he thought about it. What he said was true. In the original, both of Lin Ming's parents were already just barely getting by with their restaurant. Now that they birthed twin brothers, it only made sense that their financial situation got worse.

'I guess I celebrated too early...' Lin An thought guiltily. But upon remembering something, he nodded reassuringly with a slight smile, "All right, I get you. Don't complain when I suddenly become stronger than you."

Surprised, Lin Ming looked over for a moment before chuckling. Clearly, he found it funny that his lazy brother would say that.

"Well, I'll be going ahead for now. Today is the registration for the entrance assessment, after all." Lin An excused himself before turning away.

"All right, I'll be there later." Lin Ming replied, resting for a while before resuming his training.

After making sure that he was not followed, Lin An found shade on a nearby tree and sat comfortably.

Even though Lin An considered himself a veteran after years of reading system novels, he still had to make sure he wouldn't regret his decisions.

"To hell with it, it won't hurt to try anyway. Yes!"

About five minutes later, the tutorial was finally over and Lin An could only feel dismayed at the end of it.

It wasn't very different from what he envisioned, but most of the system's functions were locked. If he wanted to unlock them all, he'd have to pay a lot of system points.

Fortunately, the methods to earn system points was very diverse, so he didn't have to worry about that. Not too much at least.

Not wanting to dwell on this matter any further, he opened his status.

Lin Ming seemed to have been more blessed in this version of reality.

But to Lin An, it made no difference. After all, in Martial World, one's martial talent can be nurtured using all kinds of heavenly materials. Not to mention, he even had the system.

Thinking of that, he suddenly recalled crucial information from the tutorial.

A typical wish fulfillment story of a typical guy from Earth who gets reincarnated into the world of one of his favorite novels.

White. Pure white. 

What a spectacularly immaculate and desolate place? The sky an eternally brilliant white hue. The floor, though felt like a layer of extremely thin cotton, was still a pristine snowy colour that gleamed and reflected a person's visage clearer than a mirror. There were no walls. This was a lovely vast white plain which stretched unrestrained and beyond ones vision. To add, the deathly silence gave comfort and aroused a person's sense of tranquillity. Ah, how wonderful this white expanse is? 

"Screw that!" Chui Ya yelled out into nothing. The flattery of this strange white space were definitely not 'her' thoughts. "Where the f*ck am I?" 

Still lying comfortably on her back, she turned her head from left to right a few times. Everywhere she looked was just white. There were no traces of any living or dead entity but herself. It was desperately a bleak scene.

"Hmm." Chui Ya now booted up her most trusted partner; her brain. [What? I only just woke up into this white space. At least give me a few seconds to coordinate my thoughts] she mentally defended herself from criticism. Though physically, there wasn't anyone or thing to mock her for being slow. Anyhow, whether she was truly sleeping prior didn't matter. Fact remains that when she opened her eyes and was conscious again, she was already here. 

3 seconds of analytical thinking later, Chui Ya rolled over onto her belly. She had come up with 4 possible situations that would explain her current predicament. 

Her initial belief was that she's in a queer dream. But knowing herself, Chui Ya can't possibly dream such devastatingly boring dreams. That simply wasn't how her brain worked. Her dreams were always 'eventful', always consisting of her favourite 'characters' from novels, games and the like. So this blank white space meant she wasn't dreaming. 

Chui Ya then considered the possibility of being trapped in some sort of a VR (virtual reality) game. However, this notion was quickly dismissed. Regardless of whether VR was becoming popular or not, its technology was just nowhere near advanced enough. Chui Ya could physically feel the cotton-like ground against her skin. She didn't believe putting on a VR headset would create such realistic senses.

Therefore her next thought was that she had died. 

[….] 

Yeah, that concept was slightly harder to process. But if Chui Ya was dead right now then perhaps this was heaven. On second thoughts, this was definitely hell. Considering how catastrophically boring this place was, this is most likely Gods punishment for her. 

"Tch! As if," Chui Ya couldn't help but click her tongue with scorn. 

Nah. Chui Ya was certain she wasn't dead. Why? Simply because she didn't like this idea so it certainly wasn't true. 

That only left Chui Ya with her final guess - system. You know, those systems that are recently becoming a very popular genre in novels. The more Chui Ya considered 'system' the more she was convinced she was in one. After all, she had read her fair share of system novels and about 99% of them had the main character wake up in a f*cking white space. Where's the originality or creativity?

Then again, what creativity can there be? Chui Ya rolled her eyes, sweeping in the whiteness around her. Who could've guessed those 'systems' in all those novels were actually real, and weren't just a fabricated fantasy of a bunch of prosaic authors. She should praise them for the dead accurate description of the white space too. 

Assessing her situation to this point, Chui Ya was now extremely far from feeling pleased. Systems being real was acceptable. Not like Chui Ya can deny when she was 100% certain she was currently in one. 'Playing' the main character in a goddamn system like in those novels was fine too. What annoyed Chui Ya the most was;

"WHY IS IT SO F*CKING BORING HEREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" Chui Ya sat up and screamed out loudly. 

(<???> GIRL, PLEASE STOP SCREAMING. I am now aware you are conscious.)

When a young male voice echoed through the vast white plain, a chuffed expression flickered momentarily upon Chui Ya's face. [Yep. This totally confirms my hypothesis. I really am in a system situation] she mentally noted. She cleared her throat.  

"Your damn name," Chui Ya demanded. She was going to treat a system like a system. No need to be polite. She continued, "You're very rude not to introduce yourself straight away. Weren't you programmed to have any manners?" 

(<???> *embarrassed* Err... no. No, you are mistaken. I do know of manners. My master-)

"Your name," Chui Ya demanded again. "You're not just rude but seriously dumb. I can't believe I had to repeat such a simple question. Honestly, who programmed you this way?"

(<XIV> *loudly* Don't call me dumb. My name is XIV! No one programmed me. Although I act as a system, I'm not those kinds of systems you are referring to. Please stop mocking me or implying that my master-)

"You're too loud, stupid system," Chui Ya raised her voice to complain, silencing XIV. "Now listen carefully stupid system," she continued to speak authoritatively. "Get me out of here. To be precise, I want to go back to where I originally came from. My own world and time." 

(<XIV> *unhappy he was blatantly ignored* Girl, I have a name. It's XIV. And I'm not really a system. So please stop referring to me as-)

"Ah. Why do I have such bad luck?" Chui Ya let out a long deep sigh, once again cutting off XIV's words. "I actually ended up with such a rude, dumb and absolutely useless system." 

(<XIV> *pissed off* I'll show you who's rude, dumb and useless....)

"Stupid system, I don't believe you are this hopeless," Chui Ya looked upwards. "Think hard. You must know how to get me out of here."

(<XIV> *ignoring Chui Ya* Hmph! Since you want to get out of here so much, I'll gladly help you. Not like I wanted you here in the first place. Good riddance….)

A minor tremor rippled throughout the White space, causing Chui Ya to shudder. Following the tremor, a dulcet euphonious voice began to speak. The voice spoke clearly: 'ANOTHER ONE'S WISH HAS BEEN HEARD. THIS GOD WILL ACCEPT'. 

Bong... Bong... Bong...

At the queer sound of a bell chiming, a vermilion circle began to draw itself around Chui Ya. The vermilion colour radiated like blazing fire, giving off an uncomfortable wave of hot air that encircled her. Anxious, Chui Ya bounced onto her feet and struggled to barge out the circle. When her skin grazed the invisible barrier of burning air she had to quickly recoil back into the circle's space. She was trapped. "What is this?" Chui Ya shouted. "Stupid system, what have you done?"

(<XIV> *fearful* Err… that's not right… why has this happened….) 

'WORLD LOCATED. INITIALIZING TRANSFER,' the voice that didn't belong to XIV continued to uncannily state.

"Stupid system, aargh!" Chui Ya let out a shriek. 

Scorching air blasted at Chui Ya, causing her body to drop from piercing pain. Raw heat made her eyes close tightly shut and she choked from the imposing pressure. [What's happening?] Chui Ya wanted to scream. Though there was nothing she could do as she suffered from the burning pain her body was going through.

[F*CK YOU STUPID SYSTEM! As if I can hear you in this state] Chui Ya mentally scorned. 

'TRANSFER COMPLETE. CAN COMMENCE MISSION'.

A rush of fresh air entered Chui Ya's body and she inhaled profusely from the precipitous change. Pressure lifted, temperature cooled down and the pain she felt was now completely gone. Instead, she just felt normal. [What just happened?] Chui Ya wondered, slowly opening her eyes.

"Shameless bitch," an angry female voice yelled. 

THUMP! 

The water bottle that was hurled straight at Chui Ya fell to the ground after hitting her arms. Compared to the blistering pain she felt only seconds ago, this really wasn't anything to be concerned about. Nonetheless, Chui Ya remained still with her raised arms in a defensive 'x' shape before her face. [What the f*ck is going on?] Chui Ya angrily thought. [The first thing I see after opening my eyes is a stupid water bottle being thrown at me and....] She shifted her face to peek at the tiny group of 2 women and 3 teenage girls. [Who are you bitches?] 

"Stop acting like you're 'our' Weiting's girlfriend," the angry woman continued to shout. 

"You don't qualify to be with 'our' Weiting," another teenage girl remarked. 

"That's right. Stop hovering around Weiting like a ghost," the other girl yelled. "Don't you realise you're just getting in Weiting's way?"

Chui Ya's body shuddered. She didn't need that vermilion circle to generate heat, she was already burning with anger. "Weiting, Weiting, Weiting," Chui Ya burst out loud, dropping her arms to face these ridiculous women. "Who the f*ck is Weiting? What have I got to do with him?" She bent down to retrieve the water bottle. "If you bitches want to pick a fight with someone, at least make sure it's the right person," she glared before chucking the bottle back at them. 

Seeing Chui Ya's sudden water bottle attack, the 2 woman and 3 teenagers scuttled apart. 

"Y-you..." one of the woman began, pointing her index finger at Chui Ya. It seemed she was both angry and shocked at the same time to speak. 

One of the braver teenage girls yelled, "Yin Qiao, with that attitude, it's no wonder you're not popular."

Chui Ya shot that girl a threatening glare. The girl instantly went silent. Before anymore interaction could take place, two security guards from the building behind came running towards them. 

"Hey, what are you lot doing?" one of the security guards shouted.

At the sight of the security guards, the unknown group of 2 woman and 3 teenagers ran off. Chui Ya simply stood watching. She was totally unamused. 

[Hmph. Don't let me see you lot again] Chui Ya thought. [Ridiculous bunch of lassies. They've all hit their heads].  

"Are you alright Miss Yin?" a security guard asked. 

"Looks like I'm out of that white space and back in reality," Chui Ya muttered, glancing at her surroundings. [Although, I still have no clue how or why I ended up in that system….] She gave a little shrug. [Not that I care now I'm back] she thought. 

"Miss Yin?"

Chui Ya took a few steps forward and looked around her again. She frowned. Tall, glass skyscraper buildings surrounded Chui Ya. There was nothing else here besides the odd coffee and sandwich shops. Judging by the lack of cars and pedestrians at this hour, she guessed this was some sort of high-end office region. Chui Ya's frown deepened. She didn't recognize this place at all. [That damn stupid system. It sent me back to the wrong place] Chui Ya mentally complained [this isn't 'Elusive Nights' expo]. 

"AH!" With this realization, colour drained from Chui Ya's face. Her fangirl instincts had kicked in. "Elusive Night's expo," she exclaimed. That was where she was before waking up inside the white space. She was in the middle of battling for her favourite character merchandise. "How could I forget something so important?" Chui Ya panicked. She looked left and right. "Where? Which way back to Elusive Night's expo?"

"Miss Yin, are you alright?" the security guard who had been trying to get Chui Ya's attention ultimately shouted. 

"Which direction to the Elusive Night expo?" Chui Ya quickly asked.

The security guard had an extremely worried and puzzled expression upon his face. "Miss Yin, I'll call secretary Huang now."

Chui Ya rolled her eyes in irritation. [If you don't know just say. Don't waste my time. Whilst I'm all the way out here, all my beloved limited edition character items will be taken] she worried deeply. [No choice. I'll just take a taxi there]. Chui Ya began to run towards the road, waving her hands to passing by cars.

Seeing this, the security guard instantly grabbed hold of Chui Ya's arm and pulled her back. "Miss Yin, please wait here. Secretary Huang will be down soon."

"What are you doing? Let go of me," Chui Ya shouted. She glared at the impudent guard. "I wasn't the one causing trouble."  

"Miss Yin, please come with me," the security guard said. He kept a firm hold on her arm. "Secretary Huang will see you in a few minutes. Miss Yin should just wait here."

Chui Ya studied the security guard. She was finally paying attention to him, but the strong feeling that 'something' was off greatly irked her to no end. "What did you just call me?"

"Miss Yin," the security guard repeated. 

He let go of her arm and motioned towards the revolving doors to a building in a slight distance. It was the building the two security guards originally came running from. The other security guard who had chased off the group of women/girls was already back in his position. 

As for the one pestering Chui Ya now, he said, "this way Miss Yin."

"Miss Yin?" Chui Ya repeated. She had a bad feeling. [Mirror. I need a mirror] she desperately looked around. She eventually ran up to the building behind her and peered at her own reflection from the window.   Sweat started to form on her forehead. [T... That is not my own face] Chui Ya mentally screamed. [Which means....]

"Miss Yin, I think Secretary Huang is in the lobby now," the security guard informed. 

Only just realizing her situation, Chui Ya's body tremored in consuming wrath. She glared up at the sky. "You... MOTHERF*CKING STUPID SYSYTEM!!! JUST YOU WAIT!!!"

A fated accident leads XIV (a certain system) to be bounded to an otaku-crazed girl named Chui Ya. Unlike any player, Chui Ya seems to be a hurricane of destruction and unpredictability. Before XIV can work out a way of unbounding them, he is stuck trying to keep her from messing up the worlds she is sent to. What could happen you ask…..?

First world mission:
<XIV>: Chui Ya, what are you doing? You can’t kidnap the male lead back to the system space. 
<Chui Ya>: But the male lead is my souvenir *pouts*
<XIV>: Give him back to the female lead. You can be the female lead next time 

Second world mission:
<XIV>: Why are you trying to hook up with the villain? You’re the female lead now! You should be with the male lead. 
<Chui Ya>: But the villain is more awesome than the male lead. I want him to teach me how to be a villain too. 

Third world mission:
<XIV>: Alright, this time there are multiple male and female leads and no villains. It shouldn’t matter who you interact with. 
<Chui Ya>: Ehh, this storyline is too boring, I’m going to chill out and read manga all day instead. 

<XIV>: *cries* someone please save me from her…

<Chui Ya>: *winks* so, where are we going to next?

The editor of the publication, with tousled hair and a Hitler 'stache, slammed the manuscript down onto the table.

"This is rubbish!" he roared at the young man anxiously standing in front of him.

"Excuse me, sir?" Amerigo Fiscella said nervously.

"This story," he began, "explores a multitude of themes which are really relevant today. It is written with extremely good vocabulary and there are several instances of dramatic irony which provide for excellent sources of comedy."

"Pardon me sir, b-b-but-"

"Spit it out, Fiscella!"

"Those all sound like g-good things," Amerigo said, before hastily adding, "-sir."

"Amerigo, those DO all sound like good things… for bloody high school required reading! Nobody has laughed at any of Shakespeare's jokes in the last two centuries, and even nineteenth century fogies wouldn't chuckle at your 'humour'" he put air-quotes around 'humour'.

"These days, this story," the editor continued, holding up the magazine, would be considered one thing. Boring. You use long words which mean little, and you can make words flow, but you cannot put together a good joke to save your life!"

Amerigo sighed, "I know sir, but I can't figure out what they want! I try to be funny but I just can't figure out what our audience think is funny!"

"Well then, Fiscella, I want YOU to go out there and conduct some market research!"

"I-I'm not so sure what you mean."

"This coming week, Monday to Friday, I want you to go around and collect information of what our target audience does, and finds funny."

"You mean our target audience of teenage girls?"

"No, I mean our OTHER target audience of male senior citizens...yes, of course I mean our target audience of teenage girls."

"Let me get this straight. You want me, a middle-aged Italian-American man to approach little girls."

"What about this are you not getting?"

Amerigo gestured wildly, "The part where you want me to be a gods damned creep for a week!"

"Nonsense, my boy," the editor rose out of his seat, prompting Amerigo to do the same. The moment he was out of his seat, he began pushing Amerigo out of his office.

Literally.

"But sir-"

"If you can't do this much, you can kiss your job here goodbye!" the editor called after Amerigo, as he slammed his office door shut.

Amerigo collapsed onto the floor and sighed.

"Why is it always me?"

Amerigo made his way to a kid's park, because that was where teenage girls hang out.

At least in his novels.

He got to the gate of the park.

The guard gave him a slightly suspicious look. Amerigo couldn't imagine why. He was just one man walking into a park for children all alone, looking around for a good teenage child to interview to figure out the likes and dislikes of kids these days.

"You here to pick up your kid, sir," the guard asked, opening the gate for Amerigo.

Amerigo hmmed noncommittally, and mumbled, "Something like that." 

He couldn't be bothered paying attention to the security guard of all people.

He looked around and frowned. Teen girls were a lot shorter than he remembered them to be. 

'Maybe the shorter they are,' Amerigo thought, 'the more likely they are to talk to me!'

Amerigo had always thought there was a correlation between being short and intelligence, after all, why else would God have left him with only 160 centimetres of height!

"Hello, little girl, my name is Amerigo Fiscella, how do you do?" Amerigo bent down onto his haunches, and stuck out a hand for the girl to shake.

The girl took his hand, apprehensive, but did not say anything.

"So, little girl," he hesitated, where should he start?

She kept staring at him.

Amerigo was beginning to feel a little bit uncomfortable so he shiftily broke eye contact.

"What is your name?" he finally asked. He was fairly sure that teenagers just studied in their free time, maybe had a laugh at their private copy of 'Twelfth Night', or maybe a PG Wodehouse if they were feeling all edgy and modern.

The girl continued to stare at him.

"Stranger!" she announced loudly.

Amerigo sputtered, "Excuse me, I introduced myself at the beginning of our little conversation, it is YOU who was so rude as to not introduce yourself!"

"Stranger," the girl announced again, before slurring out, "Danger. Stranger Danger!"

At once the many mothers of children who were walking around the park were on high alert.

One mother came running.

"What are you doing with my Alice!" she shrieked, "My precious, three-year-old Alice!"

Amerigo sputtered once again, "I am...a writer," he announced, "And I was talking to her for, uhm, market research."

But Alice's mother wasn't listening to him, or what he was saying.

WHACK!

She whacked Amerigo with her handbag, "Get away from my child!"

"Sir, I think you need to step out of the park," the guard had come to see what was wrong.

Amerigo shook his fist like a Scooby-Doo villain, "I'll get you one day Alice!"

Second Try.

He HAD to get some intel this time. Otherwise, he would be out of a job.

He tried entering the park through the front but the guard wouldn't let him. So he was here. Trying to climb the fence with limited success.

With a grunt, Amerigo tumbled over the fence and hit the ground with a loud thud, sending kids screaming.

Somehow that served as a mom-beacon and he was once again faced with several angry mothers with handbags ready to whack.

Third Try

Amerigo managed to sneak into the park while the guard was getting himself a coffee.

One little girl was the first to see him, she looked at him and pointed and said loudly, "Creepster."

"Creepster?" Amerigo repeated.

"CREEPSTER!" all of the children in the park repeated.

And the mother brigade was back.

Amerigo nursed his many injuries as he ranted to his boss, "Those children are barbarians!" he shouted angrily, "They can barely string together 2 words, let alone read a bloody story! If this is what I have to write for, then I QUIT!"

With that, he stormed out of the room.

The editor smiled.

This was by far the easiest way to trim the fat off his corporation.

Hi, my name is Silver Grant. I was born on 23 April 2000 in a brand new working-class family in New York. When I was 4 I had lost my parents to a car crash that was caused by a truck t-boning the side of the car. The only reason I survived was because of pure luck but was it really luck. Because of that accident, I was orphaned due to not having any other relatives. Due to the accident, I had Amaxophobia (Phobia of being in a car).

Thankfully the orphanage that I was placed in felt pity for me and took me in and guided me through the trauma of losing my parents. Thankfully I took after my parents who were geniuses, I made a few friends, taught myself all of the general knowledge by reading books at the library near the orphanage. As I grew up I found joy in playing music, reading, and cooking. In my mid-teenage years, I started finding any job that paid well with moderate hours to help pay for music and cooking lessons at school.

After I finished school I chose to have a career in hospitality and became a small-time chef. As the years passed by I never got over my phobia, but I found a loophole for transport. I learnt how to ride a motorcycle.

- Random Saturday in early 2019 -

I was happy with my life, I had myself a girlfriend, a stable job as a sous chef at a semi-famous restaurant and whenever I would have free time I would read web novels. After waking up at around 7 am I made myself and my girlfriend a light breakfast and decided to do a light jog around the neighbourhood. As I was jogging by I noticed a little girl run into the road chasing a ball, but what caught my attention was the truck that was beeping its horn vigorously that was about to hit the child and the mother screaming on the footpath. I don't know what I was thinking but before I knew it I was already running towards the child and was currently pushes her out of the way, just before I was hit something happened, my whole life flashed before my eyes and the first thought that I had was 'Huh, mom and pops lost their life to a truck and after 15 years truck-Kun decided to come and visit me' then bang and all I can see is utter white. 

~3rd Person~

There was nothing in this emptiness except a genderless figure bowing before Silver and in his 
moment of shock, the figure said in a voice that sounded like a female and a male speaking at the same time.

???-"Thank you for saving The Savour."

Silver-"Where am I, who are you and who is this Savour?"

God-"Where are my manners, I am what you would call God and I govern this universe, you are currently in my domain, and The Savour is that little girl that you just saved from being hit by Truck-Kun who had mistaken her for someone else, in the future she is destined to save earth from climate change and proceeds to travel through the universe and preventing its destruction."

Silver-"Wait, what, seriously?"

God-"Yup, but regretfully I cannot take you back to earth because your body has already died which gives you two options, Reincarnate back to earth with a clean slate or you can transmigrate to another universe of your choosing and because of you collected karma due to saving The Savour I can grant you two wishes."

After god said that Silver had a face of utter shock that soon changed to contemplation.

God-"Any questions."

Silver-"Just two. If I transmigrate are there any limits to the wishes."

God-"There is only the one. which is you can't wish for extra wishes, what world and timeline you transmigrate to does not count as a wish, that's for free."

Silver-"Ok that also answers my second question. I think I will transmigrate but can I have a bit of time to think of where I want to go and what my wishes are going to be."

God-"Yeah have as much time as you want."

After an unknown amount of time of contemplating the pros and cons of a bunch of wishes that mc's had used in the numerous web novels he had read when he was alive he finally had a grand thought.

Silver-"For my first wish I would like an almighty system that has everything a system could have."

God-"That can be done."

Silver-"And for my second wish, I wish that after she gets over my death that my girlfriend finds love again and has a long and happy life."

God-"I can't grant that second wish because there is no need for it, she will already find love again and have 2 children with a couple of grandkids and live till 93, so there is no need for that wish, you can think of another one."

Silver-"That's good to hear, can I have some more time then?"

God-"Of course."

After another what seemed like a couple of hours, Silver chooses his second wish.

Silver-"I want to have an easy life so for my second wish, I wish to have an unlimited source of all currencies for the system."

God-"If you do want to live an easy life that is a wise choice, very well it shall be done. Well, I guess I will leave you to it, you can select the world and timeline through your system. Depending on how you use your system I may never see you again so farewell young Silver I sincerely hope you have a wonderful life."

{Ding, Integrating system to hosts soul in 3..2..1.. Done}

Silver-"That confirms the first wish."

{Congratulations host, God has gifted an unlimited amount of all currencies}

Silver-"And that confirms the second."

{Would host please select what world you would like to travel to and what timeline, also your appearance.}

Silver-"Well I had already chosen what world I would choose when I was told that I can transmigrate. System please transmigrate me to a world that is a mixture world of the television shows Teen Wolf and The Originals and make it that the plot of Teen Wolf Starts when Hope is born in The Originals. Transmigrate me 3 days before the plot starts."

Well… We've finally come to the end of Spirit Immortal. 

Hehe, I bet you guys didn't see it coming right? The cover of the book was actually the ending scene of the entire story! Haha, I did well to keep it under wraps for the two years I've been writing this story! Finally, I get to share it all with you!

For those that had stuck with me for the near two years, I've been posting Spirit Immortal… It's been quite the hell of a ride. There were many days where I wanted to quit writing this story and there were many times where I just wanted to say: "Fuck it! Let me just leave everything and just tell you the outline of Spirit Immortal straight up!" However, because of you guys, I gritted my teeth and completed the story. 

So… Before I begin the FINAL Author's Thoughts of Spirit Immortal, I want to give a huge thank you for all who supported me. Especially my Patrons, who had actually invested money into Spirit Immortal even though you guys didn't have to. There are some of you who have invested hundreds of dollars to support this project of mine and I don't know how else I could repay you for your continued support... 

Honestly, I lack the words to describe my gratitude, so I can only say this…

Thank you all for being the rock in my life, guiding me to complete the story that I dreamed about so many years back…

Alright, enough of the emotional stuff! Let's get to the real meat of the Author's Thoughts. This will be my longest Author's Thoughts yet so if you lack the time, you really don't have to read it all. However, for those that had read Spirit Immortal all the way, I'm sure that you'll find it all very interesting.

Let me divide it into sections first, just to keep me on track. Firstly, I'll be discussing the overall story of Spirit Immortal. How I conceived it from a theory that I had, the inspirations I took and ultimately… The ending that I'm sure only a percentage of you saw coming.

Secondly, I'll be talking about the challenges I had writing Spirit Immortal. My journey from a teenager in university that had no clue about how to write, to the man that I am now. The challenges that a new author in the web novel genre will come to face and hopefully, it'll teach any of you aspiring authors to not repeat the same mistakes that I'd made.

Thirdly, I'll be writing about the things that I would have done differently (ie, the things that I would want to do in future when writing future stories). Also, the lessons learnt that I wish to impart on my future self, as well as any budding authors reading this. 

Finally… I'm going to talk about my future works and how I'll be approaching writing web novels in the future.

It's going to be a long ride since I'll be trying to condense two years worth of experience into one document, so please bear with me.

Story of Spirit Immortal
As many of you know, I am a fan of Wuxia/Xianxia novels. They have played an integral part of my teenage life, giving me content to binge through while I rode through my schooling years. By now, you should be familiar with how I got into Wuxia/Xianxia, so I'll skip the long introduction and get to the reason why I imagined Spirit Immortal as a Wuxia.

I had a different take about Immortality than the other novels.

It was really as simple as that. In traditional novels, like Coiling Dragon or Doulou Dalu, the ultimate goal for the protagonist was to become an Immortal. Some even have realms above the Immortal Realm and they continually become stronger until they reach Godhood. It's a tale that we've all read before. However, my thoughts about Immortality are a little different.

I don't believe that Eternal Life exists. Or at the very least, not in the way Wuxia/Xianxia novels portray it. Let me explain.

What does Immortal mean? A literal definition means, not mortal. So, before we get to that, let's define what mortal means first. A mortal is any living thing that exists in reality, doing their best to continue their ultimate goal… To live. See, it doesn't matter if you are a human or a dog, a tree or a pig. We're all living creatures fighting against our final destination… death. As much as we don't like to admit it, all living things will die one day. That's what makes them 'living' in the first place. We have immune systems to protect against viruses. Possess various traits that will help us survive in our reality. Legs to run, arms to hunt, mouths to eat, sexual organs to reproduce…

All of these attributes are what makes us mortal. Which means that the desires that come from these attributes are also mortal desires. We hunger to live. We lust to reproduce and further on our genetic lineage. We anger to pump ourselves into action to defend our survival. Every single emotion that humans feel are linked to one main thing… To live. Even trees, which are effectively mortal, respond to changes and adapt to live. 

So what happens when you turn Immortal? All of our survival instincts, all of our desires that make us mortal… It all goes away. 

We will no longer want to do anything because we've already lost our most primal need to survive. Hunger becomes redundant since you won't die. Sexual desires disappear since there's no need for you to reproduce anymore. Feelings of anger, sadness, anxiety, fear… All of them would be stripped bare of any mortal. 

Once we become 'Immortal' we cease being 'Mortal'. Sounds stupid to say out loud, but in most cultivation novels, the protagonist becomes Immortal but still acts as a Mortal. Desiring to grow stronger even though he/she has obtained eternal life. Lusting over new girls in the new realm. Feeling emotions that no Immortal should have… All of these got me wondering…

How could I make a story about an Immortal with this logic that I have?

And then it hit me… The journey.

I have to make a journey tale, one where the protagonist starts from nothing and obtains everything that he'd ever thought possible. And it's not like the journey was perfect. Shin lost people on the way. Learned lessons from a myriad of characters. Took on the journey of life to become the 'perfect hero' that was slated to become the next 'Immortal.' And at the end of it all… He'll realise that Immortality was just a lie made up by humans to feel better about his mortality. 

All humans live. All humans die. In the end, what really matters is the journey that we all take while we're living. It doesn't matter if you become a successful billionaire or a struggling pauper. It doesn't matter if you get to live your dreams or be a recluse that loves to watch shows all day. As long as you're satisfied with your life's journey. That's all that matters.

At least, that was what I was trying to convey in Spirit Immortal.

Remember when I said that I wanted to finish this story because I wanted all of you to see my ending? The ending that I created was to show what my thoughts were about mortality. The life of a mortal, the journey that said mortal would take and finally… The end that no one can escape from. Spirit Immortal isn't a story about Immortality like other Wuxias. It's a story about… Mortality.

I'll be the first to admit. I lost control over the story of Spirit Immortal halfway through writing it. The original storyboard was for Shin to have a single drive (Ariel's resurrection) to carry him all the way to the ending. The ending that would reveal that the Immortal Realm doesn't exist and they were all cogs in a wheel to power the World Spirit. However, as I wrote more settings, introduced more characters, the storyline became more convoluted.

I'm an author that doesn't like to keep things rigid. As I keep adding new things into the story, it would morph whatever narrative I'm trying to write. Kanari's introduction as the secondary love interest was the major turning point for Spirit Immortal as well. I'd initially thought of Kanari as a friend character that was ultimately there only to fuel Shin's growth and to eventually meet Ariel. However, as I'd thought about it… Would Shin really behave that way when a beauty and good-hearted person like Kanari was chasing him? Was love truly eternal and could Shin only be single-minded about one person till the very end.

Then there were more realistic scenarios that I could think of which broke Shin's motivations. Even if Yggdrasil was real and Shin resurrected Ariel, he would still be a mature adult while Ariel would be a fifteen-year-old girl. Was that really realistic for Shin to ignore Kanari, a beautiful woman who had been chasing him when he was a hormonal youth, for a future with an uncertain Ariel.

And finally, I wanted to put in the family aspect into Shin's cultivation life. Family was an important aspect of all human beings. It's what fuels our evolution as a race and what drives us to live yet another day. So, Shin has to have a family before he ascends. So that he could make the final decision that he made at the end…

To not return to Earth and warn people that Immortality was a choice that Shin had to make. The world needs to have this cycle. Cultivators trying to ascend to Immortality, only to become energy for the new generation to rise up. That completes the evolution cycle of the Spirit Immortal world and Shin can only understand that if he has children of his own.

I've hidden many clues throughout the early books about the true nature of the Immortal Realm as well. Remember in Book 1 when I said the Spirit Immortals "burst into energy?" Also, in Book 2, the Mushinkei, the Frie Clan's house in Chilyoja Waypoint, means "Godless" in Japanese. And who could forget the easiest clue that I gave you all? Dexsot Teinost? Literally you can rearrange the words to form "It does not exist." Yes, yes. Very similar to the Harry Potter one with Voldermolt, but still! None of you got it! I even made it clear that I like scrambling words around with the Frie and Awter Clan all the way back in Book 1! 

Challenges
The challenges of being a writer, particularly an online one, is a completely foreign concept to me when I first started writing. I began to write because of my love of it and I'd thought that it would be easy. There are literally thousands of stories online and they each had their own unique flair. Some of them were terrible, some of them were masterpieces. And well… I got inspired by both types.

The masterpieces made me fall in love with stories. The shit stories made me realise… Anyone could write. Particularly online when there were no gatekeepers like traditional books. So even someone like me, who has bad English and horrendous storytelling skills can actually write something to the masses. 

Thinking back, I really was young and naive.

The most challenging part of being a novelist isn't the lack of time, which believe me, I was always swamped. It wasn't even the social toll that it takes. I had to give up many social events or at least plan ahead many weeks because I stuck to this daily schedule of releasing a chapter a day. 

The most challenging part of being a novelist is… Writer fatigue. 

There were so many days that I just couldn't type a single word. I didn't know how to pen my story. I didn't know how to write my settings. I didn't want to write anything because of how burnt out I was… I lost all my love for Spirit Immortal after consistently writing about it for two years. I couldn't bring myself to the keyboard, distracting myself with youtube videos and other entertainment means.

I would miss the days where my fingers would dance on the keyboard. I remember there was once I wrote a thousand words in an hour, and ten thousand words in a day. However, at my lowest point of my writer's fatigue. I couldn't even write a thousand words a day. 

That's why as the story neared its end, the quality kept dropping. I couldn't bring myself to write two thousand words a day, which was the limit I placed on myself and could only come down to a thousand words. It was heart-wrenching, knowing that I was responsible for the dip in quality in Spirit Immortal, the story that all of you readers spent your valuable time to read. 

I could spin a thousand excuses. Not enough time to write. Meeting up with my friends. Real-life obligations. Real-life work comes first. However, all in all, the main reason why I couldn't write… It's because I was tired. I was falling out of love with Spirit Immortal, even though it was the story that I dreamt into reality. I wanted to keep writing, but the author inside of me didn't exist in the shape that he used to be in.

BUT! I'm glad I faced all of those challenges, particularly with my first long-form novel. I now know what challenges lie ahead of me and I know what I must do from now on. To not just grow as an author, but as a person as well. 

Lessons learnt
Major lesson learnt… Spend more time storyboarding, and less time writing. A chapter a day is all well and good, but if the quality is shit, why bother? So I decided from here on out. I will no longer be releasing daily chapters. Maybe I'll be releasing three or four chapters a week, or even less. I can't tell you for sure right now. This is to prevent burning out once again.

Writing is not equal to authoring. I'd thought that as long as I crafted a good story, I could be a good writer. However, I now know that I'm shit at writing. My English is bad, and my execution is subpar at best. So I will be learning more from other novels to hopefully bolster up my bad writing skills. I will keep evolving, or at least, that's my hope. I will come back a better writer that could flawlessly execute the marvellous stories that I crafted in my head.

The Future of Linodo
Easy. I'm not quitting just because I'd finished Spirit Immortal. I will be continuing my second story, "When the Lilyflower Blooms..." while writing my new standalone book which I had been putting off for the longest time. I won't be returning to Wuxia/Xianxia books because I realise I'm not cut out for this genre. I can't write the 1000-2000 chapters that the undying Chinese Authors can. I can only go for so long before I burn out. 

So Lilyflower will be my comeback in an alternate genre, magical reality. I plan to write Lilyflower for about 100-200 chapters, 300 max. I don't want to keep my story never-ending and open-ended. I just want to make sure that the journey is fun for all of you. 

I won't be writing a Spirit Immortal sequel or any short stories from here on out. If I want to move on, I have to close this chapter called 'Spirit Immortal' from my life. If you guys want, you can privately message me about the theories of Spirit Immortal and I'll be sure to discuss anything that you want. However, for the most part, my creativity will now be focused on Lilyflower and the other stories that I have conceived thus far.

The End
So yeah… That's it for Spirit Immortal! I hope you've enjoyed these two years as much as I did. No matter what I say about this story, no matter how much time I've lost writing this and spending my heart's emotions on it… Spirit Immortal will always be a part of me. It would be a story that I would return to every once in a while to laugh at my young mind and enjoy thinking about forever after.

Over a million years ago, the first human contracted with the first Spirit. Ever since then, Spirit use has become commonplace. Humans used Spirits to carry items and start fires. Eventually, even start wars. Thousands upon thousands of years past and one day, one human did the impossible. He transcended his mortality and ascended to the realm above.  

In the present day, the Frie Clan was once a great clan of the Himmel empire. However, a devastating battle ten years ago crippled the clan and their numbers dwindled. To make up for their loss, the upper echelons decided to adopt young orphans and nurture them to become a future pillar of the weakened clan. Shin was one of those orphans. 

Although picked up by the Frie Clan, not all is smooth sailing for Shin and the other orphans...
