Leonie is a student writer and the vice- president of their school’s literary club where she already published diverse creative fiction and nonfiction output. That summer, their school opened a competition about writing a story- blog where it will be followed by the school’s students and others who find the story very powerful. The student who will win the competition shall be given full scholar for the coming school year. With the power of the quill, she will write a story where she could change her life.

The sports school hired 30 coaching assistants, including Dai Li. In the meeting room, the HR manager was holding an employment contract in his hand as he said, "After you sign this trial contract, you are in the three-month trial period. I won't say anything else about discipline, I've said enough. During the trial period, your salary will be 800 yuan per month. The formal contract of employment will be signed after the trial period. Everybody should try their best. I can fire you whenever I want if I feel your performance isn't good enough during the trial period!"
Somebody immediately whispered, "It's already June. The summer holiday is around the corner. I bet we don't have a lot of work to do during the holiday, which would mean that we only really only have a one-month trial period."
"You are right. The best thing about being a teacher is that we can rest for three months during the summer and winter holidays every year and get paid," another person said in agreement.
The HR manager stood on the platform and said, "You might think that there won't be too much work to do since the next two months are the summer holiday, and that nobody will be fired. I must tell you that you are completely wrong. The following two months are what will really matter to you!" His words got everybody's attention. All the new employees stopped their writing and looked at the manager.
He stopped for a second, almost as if to add dramatic effect to arouse people's interest, and then continued, "There isn't much time left before the summer holiday. Our school will organize a few training classes in the next two months, and all the new coaching assistants have to be a part of it. We'll decide if you can stay or not directly based on your performance."
According to the rules, public schools were not allowed to organize training classes. However, the sports school was different from other public schools since it was a place for cultivating athletes. A lot of students in the sports school came from selection exams. The school could use these exams to organize and open training classes during the holidays to make some extra cash.
Many people became very nervous after hearing "open training classes." The main job for the new coaching assistants was to train athletes. It made them nervous knowing that they were going to enter the front line of training when they still didn't have enough experience. On top of that, they would be evaluated to see if they could stay or not based off of it.
Unlike the others, Dai Li was excited to begin. The last thing he was worried about was training since he had the Coaching System to help him. He was actually hoping that the training would start as soon as possible so he could get enough empirical value to upgrade to the next level.

Dai Li was very busy, not because of his extraordinary ability, but because he was a college student.
In the normal job market, college students were similar to stray dogs, and masters were everywhere. Even PhD students were not difficult to find. A person with an undergraduate degree did not rank high on the job market. However, here in the sports school, an undergraduate degree was the highest rank achievable. Many of the coaches here were retired athletes who focused mainly on training instead of studying. All they were able to do was sit in front of the computer and click their mouse to surf the internet, watch movies, and play games. Most of them didn't even know how to use Microsoft Office. If one of them had been asked to write a summary, they wouldn't be able to write more than 200 or 300 words.
This was Dai Li's area of expertise. All work that involved a computer was given to him. The assistants with less of an education could only apply themselves to physical labor.
After a few days of working, Dai Li had a general idea of the summer training class that was about to start. There were several sports projects in this class. The most popular ones were table tennis class and basketball class. Most of the students who had signed up for table tennis were primary school students. As for basketball, most of them were middle school students. There weren't many high school students since studying occupied most of their time. The only one class that had them was the 100m sprint training class. It targeted high school students who were about to start their third year and whose goal was to take the track and field competition for national second-class athletes in September to receive their certificates.
The certificate of national second-class athlete was very important for the graduating students who wanted to take the college entrance exam. As long as they could get the certificate, they would be qualified to take the special exam for sports held by key colleges. If they were lucky enough, they might even be able to be admitted to the college with a score of 100 points. And even if they didn't pass the special exam, they could still become sports talent students. With the ability a national second-class athlete possessed, it wouldn't be very difficult for them to be a sports talent student and enter the college.
Besides, there was a policy in place where if a graduating student had the certificate of national second-class athlete, then he or she could enjoy the benefit of 20 additional points. Even one point on the exam could help you eliminate hundreds of thousands of competing applicants. Twenty points was a big enough deal to attract most of the examinees.
This wasn't the only benefit, either. The training fee was pretty high—15,000 yuan for two months, which meant 250 yuan per day. In first-tier cities, the price might have been less of a worry. However, in Yuzhou City, a fourth-tier city, the price was too high for most parents with normal incomes.
It was not easy to become a national second-class athlete, even if the training period was two months complete with full days of training. The students had to have some basic sports ability to achieve the goal. It would take forever for those with muscle imbalances to achieve such a feat. The 100m race was chosen because it was the easiest one both for students and coaches. At least for the level of national second-class athlete, there weren't many difficult movements to master.
Time flew by, and by July all the students were ready for the holiday. The sports training class was also ready to welcome the new students.


How could a poor graduate student without any background or connections become successful? With a coaching system? An upgrade? This is not a computer game, but real life we’re talking about!

"Are you still angry before?" Ayame was beside him and also had changed into a bikini while also wearing sunglasses. 

"No, I'm not angry." Brando shook his head and said, "I just realized that I'm still a child compared to you." He wasn't ashamed that he still had a V-Card since he wasn't in a hurry to do it. Though, he was a bit curious about how it tasted to copulate with a female. 

Ayame smiled and said, "I'm a few years older than you, Boy." She rested comfortably on her chair and asked, "Is my body good?" 

"Very good." Brando nodded without hesitation.

"Well, I have to admit that your body is really good too....." Ayame said while observing Brando's body from his stomach to his lower body. "...." She was speechless when she saw his weapon and felt a bit nervous at this moment. "Gulp....." 

"Thank you, I have trained," Brando said and sipped another juice on his table while listening to music that was being played in the pool. He feels that his summer is really fine at the moment. 'Beautiful girl with a bikini, a nice drink and good music.' He sighed while thinking that it was a damn fine summer holiday for him. 

Ayame also enjoyed this moment since it was quite rare for her to have a good holiday. "How is your school?" 

"It's good. If only I didn't have to go to summer training later in the summer," Brando said. 

"Summer training? Really?" Ayame asked. 

Brando shook his head and sighed. "I know, right? I know that this school is very strict, but I don't understand why the school needs to give its students a training camp in the middle of the summer holiday." 

Ayame turned her body showing her back and said, "You should know that being a hero is a tough job." 

"Well, that's true." Brando looked at Ayame and asked, "Do you need help with sunscreen? I remember that you hadn't put sunscreen on your back earlier." 

"......" Ayame raised her eyebrow and asked, "You're playing with fire, Boy." 

"Fire? I'm just putting sunscreen on your back, don't be so exaggerated," Brando said while raising his eyebrow. 

"Just put sunscreen on my back," Ayame said and rested her head on her arms. 

"Yeah, just put sunscreen and don't do anything else, right?" Brando said and splurted a sunscreen lotion on his palms then made his hands warmer before placing it on Ayame's back. 

Ayame was a bit surprised, but she started to get used to it. She was a bit surprised when his palms were quite warm and made it quite comfortable. 

Brando started his work and asked, "How?" 

"Good." Ayame could feel his hand moving around her back and it felt pretty nice. She thought that this guy would be a pretty nice lover if he was a few years older. "Say, Dio." 

"Hmm??" Brando put almost all of his focus on putting sunscreen on Ayame's back. It was quite hard to understand why a woman had a very good scent, even though they took a bath with the same soap or shampoo. 'Her back is soft...' 

"Why do you want to become a hero?" Ayame asked. 

"Why do you ask that?" Brando asked. 

"If you're not a hero then you'll have a good future becoming a mangaka," Ayame said. 

Brando stopped and asked, "Mangaka is only my part-time job and being a hero is my main job." 

"Sigh... I guess I failed to make you into a full-time creator," Ayame said with a sigh. 

"I might not become a mangaka, but I might continue to become a writer," Brando said. 

"Writer?" Ayame hurriedly turned back, but that caused Brando to touch her breasts since her action was quite sudden.

Brando kneaded it for a few seconds before raising his hands. "My bad..." 

"......." Ayame blinked her eyes and her face was a bit hot, especially when she saw the thing between his legs was standing that it almost burst out from the cage. "You should calm down for a bit."

She also understood that he wasn't wrong since a young man in his youth was very excited about the opposite sex, especially during puberty. She knew that Brando was at the age where he was interested in the things between women and men. 

"So let's continue to talk about the earlier topic," Brando said, trying to change the topic of conversation. 

"Right, writer? You're writing a book?" Ayame asked. 

"Yeah, the mangaka is a bit impossible since I need a lot of time to draw, but writing isn't," Brando said. 

Ayame thought for a while and asked, "If you're ready with your story then tell me." She looked at him with a serious expression and said, "I might decide to change my editorial department to follow you." 

Brando raised his eyebrow and asked, "You have that much confidence in me?" 

"Yeah, that's why I want to write something good for me." Ayame turned her body again and said, "If you also become a popular hero then your book will also become more popular." 

Brando thought for a bit and nodded. "That's also true." He also didn't think much of the publisher wanted to use his own popularity if he started to publish his book. 

"Is that alright? You don't seem to not like when the publisher wants to use your name to promote your manga," Ayame said. 

"That's because my manga is ecchi, but this novel is different," Brando said. 

"You're not writing ecchi?" Ayame was a bit surprised. 

"......" 

Brando was speechless looking at Ayame's reaction and wondering whether this woman thought that he could only write about something ecchi. He shook his head and said, "Well, I'll give you the manuscript after I am done with it."

Ayame smiled and said, "I can't wait for it."

The two contestants were looking at each other, Harry was signaling her with his eyes to lose, to show in front of the entire grade, that the light would win over the dark.

Daphne looked back, her eyes unyielding and unwilling to lose.

Harry went all out for the first time, putting his full force into a final attack.

Daphne stared him down and raised her wand to defend, just barely managing to avoid being blown into the wall, instead, managing to skid back a few steps and counter, holding out against Harry for all she was worth, lashing back at the boy with all the force she could muster.

As Harry raised his wand again, another vicious spell no doubt at the tip of his wand, he found it flying out of his hand.

The young Potter looked at his opponent only to see Daphne wandless as well.

"I think that's quite enough, Daphne, Potter." Iliad said coolly, sending both of his students a look that promised that they were in trouble after the rest of the class had left.

Done with the dueling time, Iliad quickly set up dummies for the entire class to practice on, and they spent the rest of the lesson trying out all the spells they knew on the magically animated dummies which imitated human reactions.

At the end of the lesson, Iliad looked down at the temporary schedule he had been assigned, "I don't think you have any more classes for the rest of the day, there are some Quidditch activities which will be taking place this afternoon if any of you would like to participate in that, and I believe the Exploding Snap club has received permission to operate over the summer break already, so any members may attend their meetings following the same schedule as the regular school year. Feel free to relax as you like on the school premises, no rule breaking." Iliad finished before giving his daughter and Harry a look, "Daphne and Mr Potter, please stay back a few minutes after the end of the class, I would like to have a chat with the two of you."

Harry and Daphne nodded their understanding, waiting for the rest of the class to empty out before approaching their professor's desk.

"What was that?" the older Greengrass asked simply, "What was the point of that dangerous and reckless show that will have half the Slytherins in this class running to their mamas and papas with this information, who will undoubtedly pass on the magnitude of your strength to the Dark Lord?"

"Well," Harry started, "I wanted to show that The Light was clearly stronger than The Dark by beating the witch who is by far the strongest person in Slytherin right now."

Daphne glared back at him, "Like hell, I'd go down for such a stupid reason. As it is, the Greengrass family is not really seen as any kind of bastion of The Dark, and at the rate that things are going, there's no way we're even going to be able to stay neutral. We're going to be forced to declare our alliance with The Light publicly, especially after the attack on our Manor."

"Well, I thought-" Harry began.

"It doesn't matter what you thought, that was a bad move Potter, you're good but you're in no place to be getting cocky," Iliad said before getting up and drawing his wand, pointing it at his two students, "Come, show me whether there's anything behind that attitude of yours or whether it's all just hot air." the Greengrass Lord challenged.

What ensued was yet another furious duel. With Daphne at his side, who was intimately familiar with her father's fighting style, and he himself beginning to get a grasp on the powers that Iliad wielded, Harry, along with Daphne, was able to go toe to toe with Iliad for several minutes at his full strength.

While still pretty restrained from using the exact full extent of his powers in order not to shoot anything lethal at the two kids, Iliad used the extent of his magic and ability in the duel, and when Daphne was hurtled into a wall (which had been cushioned for the purpose of the duels taking place in the preceding class), and stupefied into unconsciousness, her mind faded to black with a sense of satisfaction.

After Daphne fell, it was only moments till Harry was taken out too, both of the children being awakened by Iliad after the end of the duel.

"Still weak," he commented dryly, but even Iliad couldn't block the small smile of pride that stretched across his face for a slight moment before he sent the two children off.

*** Summer at Hogwarts

Training with Iliad continued over the course of the summer, Hermione joined Harry and Daphne in the training as well.

By the end of the summer, the three of them could keep Iliad at bay almost indefinitely, almost always losing out to his greater stamina, but together being at par with the man, infrequently winning duels with some lucky shots in, but usually falling after stretching out the duel for any longer than half an hour.

While Iliad was not the strongest wizard out there, he was certainly still accomplished, and even standing on the same level as the seasoned Greengrass duelist was quite an achievement for 3 students barely about to start their fourth year, and already surpassing even the best that Hogwarts' seniors had to offer.

On the front of the war, there continued to be little progress for either side, as without Voldemort making an appearance, the forces of The Light continued to be just about enough to push back the relentless seemingly random attacks that The Dark kept on executing.

Albus and Arcturus were also usually busy, making only a handful of appearances at Hogwarts, leaving Iliad in charge of maintaining security, and poor Minerva in charge of handling the administration of the school as well as teaching several transfiguration classes, including recreational transfiguration workshops that she held for the students over the summer of her volition.

While their forces were very stretched, The Light had suffered very few casualties since the attack on the Hogwarts Express, and there was no doubt in the minds of anybody that The Dark Lord was planning something major, but nobody had any idea exactly what the insane wizard would do.

It was because of this that Wang Zhen and Liu Qingyi had been hungry since coming back from the Palace of Mirrors the day before yesterday.
Looking at Wang Zhen and Liu Qingyi's situation, Wang Ling realized that Gu Shunzhi truly was incorruptible – as a keeper of cosmic order, he could be this ruthless even toward his fellow countrymen.

While the rebel attack was being forgotten by people's busy routine, Yuri started his new life in the his new school in Kulperchask city. It was a city of researchers and the home of the Reilgh Academy, one of the largest academies in the country. The Acadeny was responsible for most advances involving magic and magical apparatuses. It's differential was that all people, be it alpha betas and omegas, studied standing at equality. Did discrimination still exist? Yes, but this academy struggled to minimize it. With (almost) ideal options many benefited. Nonetheless, the academy had an entrance exam, and for years there had not been an equaly number of free spots for each person who decided to attend the academy, so a certain level of schooling was required if they wanted to attend it. However, the minimum age required to enter was 17, so many traveled to the city (those who were able) to study in schools around the academy (who may or may not have teachers who studied / graduated from it).

Reading about the academy in some books, Yuri had been curious about what it would be like to study there, but because he was always discouraged by his teachers, he thought he would not be able to enter. However, due to recent events he thought it was best to try to get into the Academy at least to see if he could understand the power that had killed the people around him. By speaking to his father he agreed but he would only support his basic needs and if yuri wanted something he would have to work to buy it. Yuri took the opportunity to spend time with his brother who had returned for the summer holidays, and when classes began, Yuri said goodbye to his family and left for his "new" life.

Following his father's suggestion he enrolled in a high school with the surname katsuki. Despite entering in the middle of the period, his classmates were very welcoming and he soon got used to his new school life.

Time passed, Yuri had made several friends, among them there was pichiti, who was an omega. The day of the entrance exam had finally come. Although he had studied and prepared Yuri was very nervous, his insecurities were coming to the surface and he was afraid of the tests. The academy test consisted of three parts: theoretical (calculus, history, herbology, history of magic, science), practice (combat, horse hiding, botany, alchemy, and writing) and the last was for magical power (where your gift was valued). In the theoretical, although nervous yuri managed to answer the minimum to pass each topic, in alchemy, botany and horse hiding practices were the ones he stood out and in magic was considered inconclusive, because despite him having magical power (mana) in good quantity his Magic had an unexpected way of manifesting and often it could not be controlled resulting in minor accidents. Therefore, the evaluators could not obtain his affinity.

After a whole day of testing, and being mentally exhausted, the group of friends got together and went to celebrate the end of the exams as well as wait for the results that would be released the next day. The second hour of the day after the sunset, 29th day of Adar year 5828. It is still the summer school break of Seisho Chosa, a soon to be 1st year middle schooler student entering UST (University of Systematic Truth). He is watching from the widescreen outside the house near the people's park, the semi-finals of the Book Academia Challenge year 2, also broadcasting in World Channel 777. And the last question had been given to the participating three schools. And they are waiting for the final decision for the final answer. Two students for each school, six students in total are vying to get the final answer and be chosen as the winner of the 1st part of the semi final elimination round. 

The question that was given was "Where in the Book you will find or read that there are no female angels?" Whosoever get this answer right, will be given 50 points. If all of them are correct or all of them are wrong the winner will still be UE (University of Excelsior) because they are leading on the scoreboard showing 480 points.

The DLSU (Divine Love of Spirits University) students, from the left of the stage has a score of 450 points in the scoreboard, if  UE and UST got their answers wrong, UST will be the winner of the 1st Round Elimination, they show their answer to the screen. "Revelation 12:14  And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent." They answered that because they believe that there are really female angels in the Book.

The UST students in the middle, shows their score of 440 points,and their answer on the screen and it is written, "Job 2:1  Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD."

Next the UE students on the far right had answered, "Zechariah 5:9  Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork: and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heaven." They answered that because they also believe that there are female angels of God. 

The manner of questioning are logically true, and  it always will defy the intellect of the students to really squiz out the their knowledge of the Word of GOD. 


This tournament is the most prestigious and most sought after competition in the history of the whole world. All the schools all over the world is fighting over with each other in with their knowledge  of the Book. And becoming the number one title holder of the "Book Masters" that no school has ever gotten yet. It says in the Book "Proverbs 4:7  Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding." This is why this game was a brainchild by The Real Church of God, International, and the Over-All-Steward of this organization is Brother Eriya Gomenani. Brother Eriya doesn't want to be called in any kind of honorary titles, except by which Jesus Christ said that they call each other brothers and sisters. "Matthew 23:8  But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren." 

Any school that attains being the number one or the champion, only shows that they are really the best school in the world that teaches everything to gain Wisdom and Knowledge not only spiritual, but also academic, mental, emotional, and physical aspects of learning. That is why Brother Eriya is doing this because even though he knows all the questions a man can ask from any walks of life, and he gives the answer  taken only from the Book. He wants also to make sure that his answers are still  are written and trust worthy.

The prize winnings of this contest are not only for the students benefits but for the entirety of the whole school. Free education for all of its students, meaning they will be the one to pay for all the students tuition and other payments and together with the salaries of all of the school admin staff, teachers, service staff, etc.. The only thing the owner of the school will pay is the taxes due to the government. 

Seisho is patiently waiting for the answer to be given, so that he can add it, to all the answers he had jotted down from all the challenge games, since it all started out last year ago, and the present year. He have watched every single challenged but the questions ar so vast it was almost have not been given twice from the list he compiled. He has also been reading the Book since then and finish it from cover to cover. And still he is not able to give impromptu answers from the question being ask on the challenged. It only proves that without any help, he cannot memorise all the things written in the Book and understand everything properly all by himself. The reason for this is, he would like to be part of the team of the school he will be attending this coming school year, that will start on the 4th day of Sivan this year.

His memory flashbacked to him when everything got started with Book Academia Challenged. He was in his 5th grade elementary when it began, while he was waiting for the answer to be given. There were 2 schools who have won the challenged 2 years ago, and the first one who got ⅔rds of the prize was given OU (Oxenforth University) and the other one who got ⅓rd of the price was with LVCC (Le Virtu Christi College). The title "Book Masters" and also the  winning prize can only be given when all the answers that had been asks in the whole year of competition were all one hundred percent correct. 

Once the winner of this current round will be known, only 2 more slots will be needed to be filled out to the Finals of Book Academia. From this 2 slots there will be 6 schools who will be competing with each other to complete the "Final Round".

Seisho saw Brother Eriya bow down his head, and before writing down the answer to be be shown on the screenboard , he swayed his head from left to right twice. It is like he was anticipating the answers that the participants will give, are from the four possible answers available. And he press the green button, and it showed the answer on the screen, the answer of UST was the right one "Job 2:1  Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD." They were jumping and shouting and their coaches and teammates all rushed to them to celebrate getting the first slot from the 3 slots available for the current year season. Even the ones in their school were all rejoicing with the outcome because finally they have the chance to get the benefits everyone have been waiting for. 

While the DLSU and UE students were somehow asking how about their answers, and saying can they get an explanation why there answers are wrong? The Brother Eriya gave the explanation to them in a subtle way of speaking, first the "Revelation 12:14  And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent." and "Zechariah 5:9  Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork: and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heaven." they said these two verses are a part of a prophecy and this are just symbols of something or someone. While the answer of UST angels are called also sons of God, satan himself is an angel actually he is a Cherub a much higher type of angel that was before he rebelled to God and loose that distinction.

Brother Eriya did not show the three other possible answers to the question, maybe because he was not satisfied at all with the answers of the two schools DLSU and UE answer. There are time that Brother Eriya explains much thoroughly regarding the answer so that all the students, some other judges, the expectators will be able to know and understand why it is like that. Seisho making a snap of his fingers saying to himself what a low down, those questions are like diamonds that he was waiting, but instead he was not able to grasp the knowledge he could have learned. And he also made a jump of joy when UST have won, since he will be studying there he will not pay anything for schooling. If they definitely won the championship, UST is the nearest school from his house, it is a couple of blocks away and without taking any ride, he can just go there by walking, and when he saw that the school may stand a chance to winning he told his mother to enroll him for his middle school a couple of months ago..

After the completion of eighth grade, all students prepared for their first year of high school. Thinking of the upcoming adventures that lie ahead for them, and wondering on what college they are to attend after that. This was the time to get your head on straight, have fun, and grow up. But as usual, not everyone grows up. During the last few weeks of summer before school started, Diane was cleaning her house with her mother. Taking a break while listening to 80's music on Pandora, she took out her phone to check for any messages from her father or any friends. But as usual, nothing and nobody. Although, she had seen a new number pop up that was unfamiliar to her. Touching the message on the screen, she read a message she was not expecting.
"Hey, it's Andy from Clifford Middle School? I got your number from a friend, and wanted to talk to you for a bit." As she blinked in shock from his text, she didn't exactly know how to even respond. But all she could word out was, "Who gave you my number?". With that, weeks of conversations began to blossom. Talking about anime, video games, childhood t.v shows, movies, and more. It was as if time had stopped when texting one another, and talking on the phone every once in a while. The two were connecting in a way that was indescribable. As the final days of summer were among them, the two decided to not discuss their classes as they wanted to be surprised if they had at least one class or not. Diane had not smiled so much in so long over texting, and with Andy of all people.

The first day of high school had approached and Diane woke up to her wind chime ringtone for her alarm. Turning it off, she sat on the edge of her bed scratching the back of her head and stretched up the other arm up adding a yawn as she woke. Walking to the restroom to brush her teeth and brush her hair, she sighed before heading to the closet to get her first day of school outfit ready to go. Getting dressed, she decided to take a look at her phone and noticed Andy hadn't even read her message yet. As she finished getting dressed, her mother knocked before coming in asking if she was ready to go. Diane nodded as she finished putting her shoes on, and followed her mother to the car. 
"You are going to have a wonderful four years here Diane. You are stronger then you think, just be yourself and have fun." said Mrs. Blue. "Thank you mom. I'll see you when you get home. Love you." said Diane before she kissed her mothers cheek and got out the car. Closing the door after her, she waved her mother off before walking into the school gates. Attending all 6 classes, even lunch, Diane managed to settle in fine and make some friends. A few friendly faces waved at her in the hallways, and when she thought her day was going great, she spotted Patti and Chloe across the bridge staring at her with some form of death stare. Unable to move forward or even feel her legs, she felt a warm arm wrap around her neck from the left side of her. Looking up, her eyes widened seeing Andy glare back at them.
"What do you think you're doing?" she asked in an annoyed tone. Andy looked down at her and winked with his right eye. "It's nice to see you too, how's your day so far?" he replied with a smirk on his face. The bell had rung in preparation for 7th period as students rushed to their classes. Diane gripped her backpack strap and headed to her class, not realizing Andy was following her.
"What class you have now?" asked Andy walking behind her. "I have English 1, Mrs. Temple." Diane responded walking into the classroom. "Well look at that, we have the same 7th period. Like the good old days." he replied with a slight chuckle in his tone. Diane rolled her eyes looking at most of the desks pretty much taken. Deciding to sit at the computers, Diane set her bag on the floor by her feet and spotted Andy in the corner of her eye smiling at her. Sighing to herself, she didn't notice someone sitting next to her on her left. The teacher began her instruction for the day and told her students to fold the paper in front of them. Telling everyone to write down three things they like, and about them on either side of the folded paper, along with writing their names on them. It kind of felt as if we were all in elementary school, just minus taping it down on the desk part, and was our permanent seat for the whole year. After some time when everyone was about done, she instructed us once more.
"Alright everyone, what I want you to do now is to switch with the person nearest to you and discuss about your folded paper. And...go!" she exclaimed happily. Diane looked to the right and nobody was there, and everyone behind her had a partner. Turning to her left, she saw a girl about her age and smiled nervously. The girl smiled back and spoke with a slight soft tone, and a bit of a country accent. "Would you like to switch and discuss?" she asked. "Sure." said Diane in a positive tone. The two girls switched folded papers and read their cards. "So you like to read too? Nice." said the girl next to Diane. "You love the color green?!" she said excitedly with a huge smile on her face. "Of course!" the girl replied. Both girls smiled and exchanged names to one another. "I'm Rowan, Rowan White." said Rowan. "I'm Diane, Diane Jackson." With an instant connection, the two girls hit things off in discussing common interests. Exchanging phone numbers, and walked to bus ramp together. Andy came up behind Diane and poked her side, making her flinch and nearly fall over. "What is the matter with you?" she looked up at him. Seeing a confused look on Rowan's face, she felt the need to explain things. "Rowan, this is Andy. Andy, this is Rowan." Diane introduced them both calmly. Andy nodded as he heard his friends calling him to come over. "I'll text ya later?" he asked as he backed off heading towards his friends. "Sure?" Diane said curiously. The two girls stood there and looked towards one another. They both began to laugh and smiled brightly before waving at one another heading towards their bus's. Despite feeling awkward about seeing Patti and Chloe, Diane felt stronger after meeting Rowan. Ignoring the fact the Andy is still around, she learned to ignore it and roll with things. This was going to be the start of a new year, to make friends, and do her very best in school. Nothing seems to be too difficult for the time being.

Falling for the wrong guy could lead Diane in one exciting adventure.

It was summer. Cicadas were singing and the sun was shining through the window onto Xie Meng's face. He could not help but raise his hand to block the sun, and the back of his shirt completely soaked.

Swaying, the bus halted at the bus stop. Following the crowd, Xie Meng squeezed his way down the bus. He frowned and wiped the sweat off his face, and made his way to the school gate in the scorching sun.

On the first day of school at W High, a festive red banner was hung across the school gate. On it was an old-fashioned message, "Today I'm Proud of W High, Tomorrow W High will be Proud of Me!" As a school that was not considered to be top-tiered, the quality of W High's teaching staff was not to be very diverse. As such, the enrolment numbers of new students were poor. There were only six classes in total for the first years, and each class had about forty students. Even on the first day of school, the campus did not seem very lively.

As there were only six classes, they were not divided in any specific manner. Xie Meng found his name and student number under Class Three's roster. When he entered the classroom, he found that many people were already there.

W High did not have an affiliated middle school. Most of the students here had either done badly in the high school entrance examinations or had poor grades in middle school. There were even a few girls with light makeup on, and they were looking curiously at Xie Meng.

No air-conditioning was available in the classroom. Sweat was dripping down Xie Meng's face, and his shirt was sticking to his body. His fair neck looked radiant in the light.

The whispers from the back row grew louder. As Xie Meng wiped his sweat, he took a seat. With his newly cut fringe, his eyes looked black and bright.

"Hey, Classmate." A petite girl came up to him. "What's your name?"

Xie Meng looked up, again wiping his sweat.

"I'm Wu Xiaomei." The girl stuck her hand out, tilting her head adorably. "How about you?"

Xie Meng hesitated for a moment. He wiped his sweaty hand on his pants, then shook Wu Xiaomei's hand. "Xie Meng."

"I graduated from Q Middle School." She pointed at the group of people at the back row. "They're from L Middle School, and only Mimi is from the same school as me." The girl referred to as Mimi was a little shy, from her seat, she smiled at the two of them.

Xie Meng was silent for a while before he slowly said, "I'm from S Middle School."

"S Middle School?" Wu Xiaomei was surprised. "That's the best middle school in the province. I remember that it has an affiliated high school. Isn't that also the top school in the province?"

Xie Meng gave an imprecise acknowledgment. Wu Xiaomei studied him and was about to continue asking, but had to give up with the successive arrival of more new students.

"Would you like to sit with us?" Wu Xiaomei invited warmly. "The teacher isn't here yet."

As soon as she finished speaking, a fat man looking like the Maitreya Buddha walked in. With a booming voice, he laughed, "Who said I wasn't here yet? Quick, go take your seats."

Maitreya glanced at him. "I remember you. Your score was very high, you only needed a couple more points for direct enrolment in S High."

Xie Meng shook his head, "I didn't do my best."

Maitreya patted his shoulder, "A person sometimes accidentally misses a step in life. Continue working hard, don't be discouraged."

Xie Meng nodded and said earnestly, "Thank you, Teacher."

Maitreya was buoyant, repeating "no need to thank me", he directed the rest of the students to their seats.

"Wu Xiaomei!" Maitreya was so loud that he gave people a shock. "Don't always think of sitting next to a handsome boy! No puppy love allowed!"

Wu Xiaomei replied impatiently, "Who's thinking of puppy love! Can't I have some eye candy?"

The rest of the students burst out laughing. Everyone was well-intentioned, and no one jeered. Xie Meng smiled as well. Wu Xiaomei blushed as she looked at him, playfully sticking her tongue out.

Xie Meng followed a few other boys to collect his school books and uniform. The books were very very heavy, and a few trips had to be made to collect them all. On his nth trip, Xie Meng came back to find a few boys blocking the doorway.

Maitreya seemed to be scolding someone, but his tone was not strict, "Be a better student! You're late for the first day of school!"

Then, he added, "You dyed your hair? Get rid of it by tomorrow!"

Xie Meng squeezed his way between two boys in the back row with an "excuse me", and the boy standing in front turned to look at him.

"I was born with this hair colour." The boy turned his head back very quickly. Tugging at his fringe, he spoke lazily, "Teacher, if I dye it black, that'll be actual dyeing."

Brought to agner, Maitreya rolled up the class list and smack the boy's head with it, "Acting like a rascal, in what way do you look like a student?!"

Even after getting hit, the boy was not angry. With a rakish smile, he spoke to the person next to him then looked for a place to sit. When Xie Meng was going to make another trip for the books, he stood up as well.

"I'm Ji Qinyang." The boy placed his hand on the corner of the table and introduced himself casually. He tilted his head to look at Xie Meng. With a smile on his face, he was very good looking.

"… Xie Meng." He paused before he said his name. Ji Qinyang nodded, mumbling to himself, he repeated Xie Meng's name.

Without thinking about it, Xie Meng looked up at him, and the other person smiled at him.

Someone came from behind and placed his hand on Ji Qinyang's shoulder. He seemed to be very popular, and soon became one with the rest of the boys in the class. Xie Meng followed behind them, as they walked through the corridor, the wind blew in through the windows, and the blue curtains fluttered. Xie Meng stopped, he turned his head and shut his eyes, enjoying the cool summer breeze upon his face.

Military training began the next day. The schedule that was originally spread across three days was all compressed within a day. Lining up in formation, marching, standing at rest, within half a day, many students could not handle it.

Taking off his cap, Xie Meng went to wash his face, his fringe sticking to his forehead due to his sweat. Splashing his face with a couple of handfuls of water, as he was fanning his collar, he suddenly heard a loud whistle coming from the field.

The instructor happened to be playing basketball with several boys, and Ji Qinyang was one of them.

The boy was tall, and when he jumped up, his dark brown hair seemed to glow under the sun. Skilfully, he dribbled the ball past his opponent, and with a yell he shot the ball into the net.

Xie Meng looked at that bright smile, and silently replaced the cap back on his head.

Only when the lunch break ended were Ji Qinyang and his group of friends willing to come back. They were sweaty, looking as though they were steaming with heat. Just as Xie Meng was bending over to refill the water dispenser, he turned around to see Ji Qinyang behind him.

"Let me help you." With a smile, the boy rolled up his sleeves. The sweat on his face had dripped to his neck. Just standing next to him, Xie Meng could feel the heat exuding off him.

They worked together and replaced the bulky bottle for the water dispenser. Xie Meng thanked him, then walked off alone with the empty bottle. When he returned, he saw Ji Qinyang talking to the boy next to him.

"You seem to know Xie Meng quite well?" The boy asked without any malice.

Ji Qinyang did not reply, shaking his head as he drank his water.

"People from S Middle School are very impressive. Not many people in the entire class would dare to take the initiative to talk to him."

Ji Qiyang smiled with a cock of his eyebrow, "What an exaggeration."

The boy punched him lightly, "He's good at studies, and proud."

"So what." Ji Qinyang spoke indifferently. "He's now in the same school as us."

Xie Meng leaned against the door, only entering the classroom when they finished their conversation. When he walked past Ji Qinyang, he was sprawled across his table, and no one knew if he was asleep or not.

Most of the girls were already awake. Wu Xiaomei crept over to Xie Meng and poked him on his shoulder. Putting her hands around her mouth, she spoke mysteriously, "This Ji Qinyang is very famous in our school."

Xie Meng was a little curious, and just like her, he replied in a low voice. "He's from your school?"

Wu Xiaomei nodded. Under the boy's gaze, her face reddened a little. Mustering up her courage, she started gossiping, "He only focuses on certain subjects, and he had won prizes with his chinese essays before. He can play many instruments… I heard that after school, he would go to that kind of places to play, but I don't know if it's true or not…"

Xie Meng pushed up his sleeves. Despite being in the sun for so long, his skin was still very fair. However, it did not look delicate, the lines of his arms had a youthful gracefulness to them. Ji Qinyang was already seated at the table, raising his arm with a smile on his face.

The both of them clasped their hands together. Ji Qinyang's body temperature was a little higher, his palm was dry and warm. Xie Meng was lost in his thoughts, by the time he regained his wits, his hand had already been forced halfway down.

Enthusiastic cheers erupted around them.

Ji Qinyang was very strong, having gained the advantage, he tried forcing Xie Meng's wrist down, but it was not as easy as he thought it would be.

The back of Xie Meng's hand always maintained a safe distance from the table. He did not tremble, and his hand remained steady. Ji Qinyang raised his brow, with steady amusement, he looked at the person across him, and realised that Xie Meng was frowning at him.

Their eyes met, then Xie Meng suddenly relaxed. In the eyes of others, it looked like Ji Qinyang had successfully forced Xie Meng's hand down, but only Ji Qinyang knew that it was the other person who had decided to put his own hand down.

Ji Qinyang did not express any special joy or displeasure after winning. He smiled cheerfully and patted Xie Meng's shoulder. "Thanks bro."

Xie Meng replied politely, "You're welcome."

In this moment, they probably would not have thought that in the years to come, arm-wrestling would become the best way for them to resolve their differences. Winning or losing did not matter, as most of the time, winning was not dependent on strength, just like how Xie Meng purposely lost to Ji Qinyang today.

Because, in their lives, winning or losing was not the only thing that was important anymore.

That day, the collective timing of Ji Qinyang's group was two seconds slower than Xie Meng's group. With cheeky grins, the youths did their frog jumps around the field. The rays of the setting sun shone across the red running tracks, and the shadows crept along slowly. Due to the long distance, Ji Qinyang's face was blurry, but Xie Meng knew that he was definitely still smiling.

There was no reason for it, that was just how he thought it would be.

After the military training, their studies became more intense. The interactions between Xie Meng and Ji Qinyang were like raindrops falling into a lake, after a few ripples, they faded to nothing.
