This was a very touching scene and was the dramatic climax of the movie. The headquarters not only sent helicopters to rescue the trapped officers and soldiers, but also ordered the rescue of these meritorious police dogs at all costs.
Of course, as a movie promoting the mainstream political rhetoric of China, the story came with a standard happy ending. Not only had the trapped officers and soldiers been promptly rescued, but the dogs were also saved. After recovering from their injuries, these dogs would all be commended, their fame spread wildly, and people sent regards to them. As usual, don't worry, the next story chapter is coming right after.

Some of you may, or may not, know that Rebuilding the Sun Kingdom was rebooted a few months back. I wanted to flesh out some characters, fix some of my mistakes, change the pace of the story as well as many of the events, basically I wanted to make of RSK a more engaging story.

As some may know (from my previous posts) I did not just jump in and say "let's scratch everything and start from zero". I first started improving character dialogues and descriptions, I rewrote a few events and it quickly became obvious that the changes were too much for me to just edit past chapters without doing a proper reboot. As readers would miss important changes and be confused by their consequences. And so I decided to start over which would, in turn, allow me to do even bigger changes (more on that later). 
But I did not want to just come back to old chapters and just edit out/in what I wanted. I felt that this had to be a true rewrite and so I had to start from scratch and rewrite every single word of every single chapters even if I was describing the same events. This meant starting from a blank page and writing the chapter. This gave me more freedom and since I didn't have to worry about what was already written the changes were more natural. I also felt it was more honest for my viewers.

And so my first challenge, after deciding to reboot, was what to do with the first (ten or so) chapters. I was fully aware that many readers would be unhappy with the reboot, and the first chapters would not help as they would not be changed much.
Those chapters are, after all, the foundation of the story as well as the reason I started to write RSK. Messing too much with those would mean writing a completely different story. They were also very close to what I wanted as I had spent weeks preparing them.
Luckily I still had some things to fix for the story to flow more naturally, and some extra details to add to explain what was happening better. 
This was, for example, the legend of the Human Goddess, details on how the king was chosen, what the royal garments meant and so on. The goal was to add legitimacy to Chris' status. This is not enough to guarantee a prosperous and long reign for Chris, but I believe, as I like to say, that it is enough for the people to follow the 'clothes' right now, and perhaps later follow the man himself. That is when Chris has proven himself. 

But I still wanted to go past the beginning quickly, as I had tons of new stuff to share. This lead me to prepare a stack of chapters before announcing my return with the reboot. And so I wrote 30 chapters in secret, which took me two full months of work. This allowed me to publish them at a rate of 2 every day for 3 whole weeks. (I continued writing every day as I was publishing them, which allowed me to stretch that release spree to a little more than 3 weeks.)

Strangely, the first ten or so chapters, took me longer than the next 10. I did not have much to change, but every change was much harder to do. Because they would impact events much later in the story. 
For example, we are still not at Chris' coronation. We are probably a hundred or so chapter from that, but I still have most of it ready, and I had many (cool) changes done because of the new details I added early on (legend of dawn, royal garments, and so on).

My second challenge was obvious, but it was to re-work the story events, by making them more appealing but also by moving them in the timeline and sometimes completely removing them.
This was one of the most complicated aspect of the rewrite for me. As moving around the events can have cascading effects in the story line. Like how and where characters are introduced or what consequences this change will have in future events.

This is because the author is (or should be) trapped by his own work (in a good way). Bad writers just don't care and will write anything they want even if it goes against a character's personality or against the world itself. While the others will notice that their previous words open and restrict the world they are creating.
Let's take a very simple and non-spoilery example : Rinat (the chief carpenter). She is a strong person, she is very talented in carpentry, one of the most important profession in that era and she is also very liked by everyone. In the original draft she was introduced in Brine City, which made no sense at all. If she was from Five Cave Village, how could Chris not even hear about her before then? And so I moved her introduction to the FCV arc. This seems simple enough. But now I had to explain why there were so few horse-drawn carts in the village and why they were in such a bad shape. They have an awesome carpenter around, how is that possible?! 
This is a little detail, but it's the kind of things I had to pay attention to, for every single change made in the story.
I'd say, this troubled me for most of the chapters between 10 and 40. Those chapters were diverging more and more from the old draft, but there was still plenty of things in common to which I had to pay attention to.

This lead me to my third challenge, which kind of sneaked up on me.
I soon noticed that I had trouble remembering to which draft some of the small details belonged to. These were not crucial to the story and were just there to flesh out the characters. But since they were not crucial, they could be placed pretty much anywhere in the story without much consequence. They just helped you understand more the character or discover a bit more about the world. 
Luckily my earlier decision to rewrite every single word in the novel instead of editing chapters one by one helped me out quite a bit there. 
But there were still a few times where I forgot I mentioned an aspect of a character and introduced it later in the story, luckily, LtBeefy my editor, caught these for me :).

And my current major challenge. We are closing in to chapter 67 of the old draft, (the attack on the Kunalls camp), but there has been so many changes (many new characters, new potential antagonist like the prince, many events removed or added, PoV chapters, new factions introduced like the elves and so on) that the story is now very different to what it was.

But there are also many things from the old draft that I was have not written about that I plan to bring back. And it's really tough for me to mix that completely new content with the 'old' one.

An example would be Carl, one of the scouts under Titus.
In the old draft he was introduced after Chris had 'published' his tutorial on how to recruit people. "Suckering them in - 101". Carl appeared as a simple pure man, who followed his king's order and was completely convinced by their efficiency. After all he had managed to recruit a refugee camp thanks to these very words.
But in the current story, Carl is a very active man who has done much for Chris, he was there when they found the necromancer cave, he was the leader of the expedition to find a spot for Brine City, and he might have found a potential romance doing so.
It is now much harder for me to write about him taking advantage of Chris' tutorial on recruiting to 'sucker in' a group of refugee. After all he has recruited many groups of refugees so far, it wouldn't be interesting to just see him doing it again with a new technique particularly if it's just with a random group of refugees. it would be a "it worked great before, so what's the point?" moment.
So there must be a special reason for him to pull out the 101 techniques. And as it turns out, he still has one group that refused him, the one his potential romance interest is part of. And so the story, logically, pushes me towards this.  (See? The author writes the story, but the story also shackles the author). But now I have more parameters limiting me, and the event is now harder to write.

And that's where I am at, which explains (partially) the delays for each chapter. I might not write every day right now, as I lack time. But I am thinking every day of new stuff to add to the story. I have a 3 pages long list of events saved on a text file on my desktop, each event taking a single line at most. So I have plenty of stories to tell. 
Do not worry if the updates are spaced out lately, you will always have a chapter released soon :).

And finally, I was asked previously if I have an end planned for the story.
And the answer is "Yes". I already know how to end the story. I have not written the chapter yet because the characters and the world will likely change outside of what I am envisioning right now. But the main script is done, and I am in love with it and can't wait to share it.

And I do plan to end the story logically and not stretch things out. I will never add filler arcs and chapters and will always only write because it's either necessary or fun. 
I've got an ending planned  and I want to share it. Not delay it to the 22th century:).

"Yes, that's the end." While they were on the place, Wu Xiumin told Zhao Yu about the story of "And Then There Were None."
"In the end, all of the 10 people died! Actually... This was all planned by the Lord Chancellor, who punished those people by the means that he thought were most just!"
"Oh..." Zhao Yu nodded. "This story is quite interesting, but I thought a judge had to have an associate! If an old man wants to kill so many people in line with the description of nursery rhymes, including killing methods and order, it's no easy feat."
"Sin is in the heart!" Wu Xiumin said. "In fact, the most incredible part of Agatha Christie's work is how she reveals the hidden evil. The crimes of these people have been exposed, and they are suspicious of each other, which the judge can take advantage of."
"Well, that does make sense. Although it's a novel, it's really impressive!" Zhao Yu sighed. "I hope our case is not like the novel, where no one survives."
At this time, Zeng Ke suddenly looked at his mobile phone and said to Zhao Yu, "I have just received an update from Chen Zhuo. There are survivors!"
"Holy sh*t!" Zhao Yu cried out. "How can you have access to the internet on this plane?"
"It's not a big deal for me." Zeng Ke proudly pointed to the screen of his mobile phone and said, "At present, the police have found three survivors on Yongjin Island, but one of them is in very serious condition in the hospital."
He then added, "The other two survivors are a woman and a man. The woman is an actress, and the man claims to be a producer, but in fact, he is a cook!" Zeng Ke said.
He then added, "The Quliang Crime Investigation Department was the first to arrive at the scene after receiving the call. They felt that the situation was severe, so they reported it to the Criminal Division. That's why we were asked to come and help."
Zeng Ke continued, "It is said that the two survivors were not seriously injured, except for their mental instability. But, the report says that, although she was a survivor, the woman was put on a folding stool with a hemp rope around her neck. Then, she was almost hanged to death!"
He shook his head. "The cook encountered something even more bizarre. He was tied up and buried alive! Only his face was above the ground! Because they still are suffering after experiencing such a scare, the local police have sent a large boat, where they were temporarily placed. They've also sent a psychologist to help the two calm down, while also asking them about the specific details of the case."
Wu Xiumin then asked, "How many people died in total?"
"At present, six people have been confirmed dead!" Zeng Ke then turned to Zhao Yu with a sad face and said, "These people died in different ways, and their bodies were scattered all over the island. So, the police are still searching the whole island for their remains. As such, the final number of deaths remains uncertain!"
"God! Six people! They're all filmmakers, too. Who could kill them so cruelly?" Wu Xiumin exclaimed. "Did they have a big dispute among the crew or something?"
"Let me see that..." Zhao Yu took Zeng Ke's mobile phone and carefully read the information that Chen Zhuo had just sent.
Apparently, the crew that was involved in this accident was an independent film crew that worked for a film company called Champion Pictures. As they were a semi-private unit, they had their own creative and production teams, but because of limited funds and distribution, they still had to be affiliated with larger companies.
Usually, before filming, they would submit their travel plans and production schedule to the larger parent company. If the company agreed to them, they would get some funding and assistance. Then, when the film was released, they could receive a higher percentage of the copyright proceeds.
Champion Pictures itself was not a well-known name in the industry. As such, its production teams were not very skilled.
These filmmakers could only make low-cost digital movies, mini films, indie documentaries and so on. That crew on Yongjin Island was such a team.
Actually, their team was at the bottom in the film and television circles, that is, they just earned what was on the table. The purpose of their films was just for the investors.
For example, in terms of a low-budget film with a production cost of only half a million dollars, they would usually ask for a budget investment of one million or even two million dollars. The price difference was basically their profit, so they didn't really care about the quality of the film or the later profit after the release of the film.
Of course, investors were not fools. Therefore, dirty business became a widespread part of this industry. In order to find sponsorships and investment partners, the filming team or the film company would resort to any means possible.
For example, the crew in the accident had obtained its funds from a local rich female via a personal relationship that she had with the actor Xie Hao. Because of this, Xie Hao naturally became the lead actor in the cast. But, unfortunately, Xie Hao was had died in this island tragedy!
According to the information that Zhao Yu had, the reason why the film crew wanted to shoot on Yongjin Island was that Yongjin Island had something to do with the script. This time, they were filming a digital film called "Lighthouse." The whole story was about an isolated island and a lighthouse.
The reason why the film crew chose Yongjin Island was because Yongjin Island actually had a lighthouse, and in the 1970s and 1980s, that lighthouse had played an important role in guiding the local ships safely to shore.
It was reported that the police had contacted the director of Champion Pictures, who claimed that a total of 17 members of the film crew had participated in the filming! However, because the shooting site was far away from the mainland, these people did not necessarily all stay on the island full-time. Now, they were actively trying to contact these people, so it was expected that they would get the exact number of deaths soon.
In addition, the crew's production schedule showed that their shooting period was a full month. So far, the crew members had been filming on the island for about half a month. Yesterday, they were almost finished!
"My god! I can't believe it… 17 people!" After hearing this astonishing figure, Zhao Yu grew tense.
He couldn't believe that a film crew had encountered such a terrible thing, especially right when it was near to being finished with the film! He had to wonder…
What happened on that island?


A little ruffian who fought recklessly without any morals and bottomline accidentally time-traveled to parallel space and became a Key Case Investigation Team agent. The huge change in identity had him creating chaos in the police station. However, a strange miracle system helped him repeatedly solve mysterious cases, turning him into an impudent ruffian detective!

It's funny how first person stories start with the main character talking to the reader about what they're about to read. How it's all about their journey, there's always some kind of conflict and some change that the main character goes through. Sometimes there's a happy ending, othertimes, not so much. But there's always a common ground that you can find between each story.

Despite whatever tension you may read during their story, if you think about it, since it's a first person narrative, the main character has to survive. How else would they be able to tell their tale. Well, from this, you might be thinking that this will be another first person story. If you did, then you thought wrong, you won't be learning about my story, though if I feel so inclined, I may bring it up now and again. But you'll be learning about the story of an interesting individual. Under ordinary circumstances, he wouldn't be what you'd consider main character material. But this wouldn't be a good story if it were under ordinary circumstances.

At the start of our tale, he's a young boy at the age of 6. He lives alone with his poor mother in the mountains, his father was a hunter, but died when he had turned 5. The nearest village is about 10 kilometers down the mountain right beside the ocean. The villagers get by on fishing and mining, and trading with the occasional merchants that passes through their humble town on their way to the next big city.

The world in which this story takes place is quite different from the one you are familiar with dear reader. For example, while you may be very familiar with the concept, magic exists in this world. But that's a discussion for another time, the world still has much to explore, and humanity has only settled a small fraction. Wild beasts and monsters thought to be nothing but myths and legends still occupy most of the land, seas and skies. But, humans don't have the strength to battle against these creatures, so they stick to their small settled lands, and fight amongst themselves.

Kings forge nations and raise armies in order to battle one another, all for the purpose of becoming emperor, and reigning supreme over all nations and unifying all of humanity under one banner. Lofty goals from one perspective, but at the same time, from another, quite small and insignificant. Afterall, no matter how powerful a nation becomes, in the end, they'll still crumble under the slow decay of time, and soon be another forgotten relic of history.

But none of this matters to our hero, he lives his days largely oblivious to the schemes and machinations of these mighty rulers. His thoughts consumed with only finding enough food to get through the day, and what he'll do the day after. As for aspirations and goals, he would be hard pressed to say he had any. But if he really thought about it, he'd say it's to make life easier for his mother.

His mother, alone and responsible for another life, despite losing her husband, still continues to struggle against the cruelties of the wilderness and life. Even at an early age, our hero was worried about his mother, and even he could see how burdened and stressed she was. That's why he always tried his hardest to never complain about anything. When he had to skip meals, he would smile and not ask when they would eat again.

Once our hero turned 6, he began helping out with the chores, such as chopping up firewood, gathering water from the nearby stream and collecting herbs and vegetables from the garden. His mother would sell whatever produce they could down at the village, and bring back whatever meat she could in return. When the father was still around, he would go out into the woods to hunt wild beasts. But an accident happened, and he lost his life, never returning home.

Our hero often saw his mother in tears at nights when she thought he was asleep. This only strengthened his resolve to give his mother a happy life as soon as he could. But often times, fate can be a cruel thing... Ah! I'm getting ahead of myself... Ahem! Cough! Cough! Excuse me. Where was I? Right, I was describing the life of our hero. Let's see, I haven't even given a name to our hero, that's quite thoughtless of me. His name is Alick. Quite an amusing name to be honest. Eh? You don't think so? Well, in one of your languages on earth, it means stupid. Why would a parent name their child stupid? Hmmm, it could be his parents were illiterate, and didn't know any better. Or maybe the language is different in their world.

But alas, our poor hero is named stup- Ahem, Alick. His name is Alick. His mother's name is Sylvie and she has done her best to raise poor stu- Alick the best she can. Don't give me that look, I know you're giving me a look dear reader. Ahem! Let's move on, you've distracted me enough.

Alick is our hero, and he's 6 years old, though at this time, he will be turning 7 in a month. Let's see what he's up to now, shall we?

Alick was sitting by  the stream near his house. He was deep in thought as he looked at his reflection in the water. His cheeks were pudgy and his figure was round. Despite the fact that he starved on several occasions, one wouldn't be able to tell if they just looked at him. How can you be starving if you're fat?! Even he wanted to know!! He clenched his fists tightly as bitter tears fell from his eyes. Hello god, me again, why are you so cruel?!

Well maybe if you weren't named stup- Ahem, Alick, I wouldn't be so cruel hmm? Why can't you be more of a main character!? You have no presence or lofty aspirations!! You're the side character that the main character takes pity on!!

Alick quickly wiped the tears from his eyes as he shook his head, getting rid of such thoughts. It doesn't matter if I'm fat now!! Alick thought, when I hit puberty, I'll lose all this fat and turn into a handsome hunk!! I'll surely have my retribution against god for giving me this body!!

Eh?! What's this? You want to get retribution against me? Maybe I should curse you so you'll remain fat till you die! Hmmm? How do you like the sound of that? Oh wait, he can't hear me, man, I'm so bored.

Alick grabbed the nearby bucket and quickly filled it up with water, carrying it over to the small well that his father had dug up before passing. He dumped the water into the well and set the bucket beside it. Next he ran over to the ax and the pile of logs, grabbing the ax, he began chopping up firewood for tonight. It was mid winter, and the nights often became freezing without a fire to keep warm.

His mother was down at the village trading, and wouldn't be back till late this evening. So he had to make sure all the chores were done before she returned. Once he finished chopping the firewood, he picked up his pile and carried it inside, setting it down beside the fireplace. Next he grabbed a broom and began sweeping the floor, sweeping out all the dirt and mud that he had tracked inside with his boots. All this while. Alick hummed a song his mother sang every night to him before going to bed ever since he was little. He didn't know the words yet, but the tune was stuck in his head, even of he didn't want to know it.

Hmmm, this is quite boring to be honest, I wish there was some action. I mean, he's a main character afterall, where's the crisis? Where's the drama?! I want some action. Is it that the crisis won't arrive until his mother gets back? Is that it?

Then lets see what his mother is up to! Maybe she's heading back home already.

Alick's mother Sylvie was standing by a merchant's stall and bartering for meat with the few coins she had earned from selling her produce. Even after haggling for over an hour, she had only been able to bring the price of 10 pieces to 8 pieces for ½ a kilogram of meat. It wasn't much and it could just barely satisfy the two of them for a meal. But at least it was better than nothing she told herself. After finishing the exchange, she started making her preparations to head home. She was hoping to surprise Alick with a nice dinner tonight. She knew his birthday was coming up, but she didn't know when she'd have another opportunity to get meat in order to celebrate it.

Eh?! Oi!! Isn't that a flag!? You've just set off a flag! Do you want to die?! That's totally a cliche death flag!

What's up with this? Even though the main character isn't really a main character,  his mother is totally the mother of a main character! Even his father performed his role of a main character's father beautifully!!

Is our young hero really a main character? Am I just blind? Hmmm, questions for later. Our hero's mother is currently traveling back up the mountain and heading home. Hopefully something- Ahem! Nothing happens to her along the way. Let's see what our hero is up to.

...He's still doing chores... Do something interesting already! Is you're life really this mundane!?!? Do you think I won't change the script!? I'll change the script!

Alick continued to busy himself with his chores, he'd already cleaned the house, all that was left was making the beds. Then he'd finally be able to relax, ah, life is really blissful sometimes... Alick thought inwardly as he wore a blissful expression on his face.

...sigh...I can't really get upset at someone for enjoying something. No matter how much I want to criticize. Maybe I really did pick the wrong guy, is it too late to switch to someone else? Let's look at the contract real quick. Hmmm, I see, yes, paragraph 12... section 4... after selecting the candidate, unable to select a different candidate.... what bullshit game is this? I can't start over?! I want my money back!!!

<Suddenly, thunder flashed across the sky.>

Eh?! Is it the author? Author-san, are you mad? Is it because of me? I'm sorry Author-san, I take back what I said, it's not a bullshit game. Tee-hee! 😋
