Li Yao was rather confused. "That's a rather… unconventional thought."
"It's very simple," Long Yangjun explained. "The civil wars within the civilization of mankind are mostly for resources, especially the planets with abundant spiritual energy, atmosphere, sunlight, and water sources. It will be even better if there are Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures and a lot of crystals mother lodes on them!
"Vulnerable and picky human beings can only live on such planets. Even if they have grown into a 'starship civilization', they still must find such planets as their bases and therefore spend their entire time searching for them!
"Wars only happen when we are fighting over such planets that are actually terribly rare in the sea of stars. For example, the Black Wind Fleet has marched to this place after a tremendous journey from the center of the cosmos, but isn't their purpose to raid the Sector here and loot all the resources including population?
"However, if everyone—no, that is not necessary—if half of mankind is transformed into 'virtual life' and lives in the 'Spiriters' Realm', the pressure on resources will be greatly reduced. Humans have the highest demand on their habitats. Demons are much more adaptable than humans and can live on many barren and harsh planets. The Spiriters, on the other hand, are a great deal more adaptive than demons. For them, they can establish tiny centers of super crystal processors deep below the surface of most of the solid planets as long as their underground is free of the interferences of radiation!
"Everything can be created in the virtual world. Money, women, land, Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures… All the reasons from ancient times to today that ever caused a war will no longer be a problem in the virtual world!
"As a result, after the living space of human beings is expanded a hundred times over, their internal conflict will be greatly soothed. Wars may not be entirely wiped out, but the odds of wars that are caused by the competition of resources will be greatly reduced. Maybe that is what your professor believes.
"Even if the Spiriters really have conflicts and a war is inevitable, the wars will not be as cruel as what we are having right now. I have come up with two new modes when I just give it a thought.

"Then, the universe will embrace eternal peace. War will be a solution to resolve disagreement peacefully. It can even be a game of entertainment!"
"War… can be a game?" Li Yao shuddered coldly.
"Why are you wearing such an expression of disbelief, like human beings are just a bunch of innocent children?" Long Yangjun sniffed. "Humans are war machines created by the Pangu Clan and the Nuwa Clan in the first place. War and violence are an ineffaceable part embedded in the deepest part of everyone's genes. Human children like to play with toy guns and military action figures. Adolescents like action movies and war games. Even at the twilight of their life, aren't old people still fond of power struggles and strategies? And you personally, Vulture Li Yao, do you dare to say that you do not like the feeling of fighting?"
Li Yao was rendered speechless for a moment. He could only say, "No, it's impossible. I don't think that my professor is as crazy as you think…"
"It all depends on whether Professor Mo Xuan is a good guy or a bad guy," Long Yangjun said. "If Professor Mo Xuan is truly a vicious villain, and his ambitions are to make the Spiriters rule the world, he will certainly not concoct any scheme at this point because the timing is too inappropriate, and the odds of success are too low.

There will be no more conflicts, no more contradictions, and no more bloody wars! Is such a 'motive' not enough to make 'good guy Professor Mo Xuan' pay everything?"
Li Yao was lost for words, completely defeated by such a new way of thinking.
"Of course, this is just my random thought. It might not necessarily be the truth," Long Yangjun said casually. "It was you who insisted that Professor Mo Xuan was weird and asked me to find a 'motive' for his scheme. Then, after I examined and ruled out all the possibilities with my wisdom, this is the last motive that I found.
"I have already tried my best. You can take your time to think about it. After all, whether it is true or false, we will reach the Heaven's Origin Sector very soon. After we get to the turf of your wife and your disciple, there will be nothing to be scared of!"
After saying that, Long Yangjun was ready to crawl back into the protective gel.
Right then, a sweet voice of reminder echoed from the ceiling of the cabin.
"Last five seconds to the space jump. All passengers, please immerse yourselves into the protective gel and close the covers of the cocoon cabins, in case the storms in four-dimensional space scourge your body and soul."

After Mo Wuji’s attack, he could no longer see the open space in front of him.

This was because even more Space Scorpions had instinctively blocked his path, and with his spiritual will, Mo Wuji realised that the Space Scorpions behind him had thinned out.

For this he had to be extremely fast, as those Space Scorpion, while not smart, were not stupid either. Once they found out that he had turned around suddenly, it would put them on guard even more. The next time he tried to create such an opportunity, it would be much more difficult.

It was a pity that the Scholar’s Heart still had no offensive capabilities, otherwise if he could throw out a large wave of green fire, no matter how many Space Scorpions there were, they would just be a joke.

Even using the name "Mo Wuji" was better than having "Rogue Cultivator 2705" appear on Zhen Mo Continent.

"I know who the original rank 9831 was, his name is Fu Zhize, an expert a half step into Nihility God Stage, who had killed a seriously injured Nihility God Stage Level 6 expert out of luck a year ago. "Oh, based on the duration of time, he should be at most in Yuan Dan Stage right? A Yuan Dan Stage entering the Earth Board, he’s this extraordinary? No wonder he became rank 1 on Star King Mountain’s Mortal King Board." The middle aged man referred to as Star Lord suddenly turned around, and spoke agitatedly.

"That’s right, have the men that the Xia Clan sent to Lost Continent returned?"

You should instead focus on monitoring the Xia Clan, and don’t allow them to return to the Lost Continent again. But since Rogue Cultivator 2705 has come to Zhen Mo Continent, I doubt that the Xia Clan will want to go back to the Lost Continent."

"Yes Star Lord. Should I look for Rogue Cultivator 2705, and protect him from the shadows? Otherwise I’m afraid that the Xia Clan will harm him." The brown robed old man whispered.

After a long period of silence, the middle aged Star Lord sighed, "A genius that requires protection is not truly a genius. Let him be. If he is able to survive, it means that he is indeed the person that will save our Zhen XIng. If he can’t even survive, then there’s no need to talk about anything else. Moreover, he was able to make it so far precisely because he is a rogue cultivator with no one to protect him."

As he finished speaking, the middle aged Star Lord shook his head, seemingly mumbling to himself, "It’s a pity that this guy is too pale, with the look of a scholar. He’s not the ideal person…"

He had obtained the details of how Rogue Cultivator 2705 looked like from the Xia Clan, which described Mo Wuji’s pale scholar disguise.

He was indeed rather shocked, as he had barely reached the top 1,000 in rank on the Earth Board after hustling till today. At the same time, he was very aware that his rank was fake. In actuality, he might really be outside the top 2,000 ranks.

"I want to report this to my father." Xia Mu soon came to a decision.

The Rogue Cultivator 2705 could sneakily take out Ceng Houyi, hence he probably was seeking death if he faced Rogue Cultivator 2705 alone. On top of that, he had forced Rogue Cultivator 2705’s dao companion to her death, so Rogue Cultivator 2705 probably had a big grudge against him.

A deep voice laced with joy came from the door, "My son seems to have improved recently, to know how to plan before taking action."

"Father," Xia Mu immediately stood to one side and bowed upon seeing the man that had entered. It was his father that had come in, Star King Mountain Star Wars Hall’s Hall Master Xia Dandao.

"Greetings Hall Master," Rhodes bowed respectfully towards Xia Dandao before leaving carefully.

Xia Dandao walked to the seat that Xia Mu just stood up from, and spoke, "Star Lord has noticed that Rogue Cultivator 2705, so if you want to act, you cannot act openly. This will be bad for the Xia Clan. Find out his location first."

"Yes father." Xia Mu quickly replied. Rogue Cultivator 2705 definitely had to die by his hands. He was no longer the Xia Mu from a few years ago. Even if his father had not said so, he would not have openly gone to kill Rogue Cultivator 2705.



Here, only those with spiritual roots can cultivate while those with mortal roots are destined to stay mortal.

Mo Wuji only has mortal roots, but will he only remain as a mortal?

I tossed and turned for most of the night. Finding out about Bill seemed to make things worse. Two years he had been stuck in the past. I hadn't considered that I would have to relive my life. Could I live with my mom until I graduated and went off to college? I didn't think so—not unless I could get her to believe that I wasn't her sixteen-year-old daughter but a woman who was even older than she was now. 
Saturday was bright and sunny and I got dressed in shorts a T-shirt that had DYNO-MITE written across the front with an image of a grinning Jimmy "J. J." Walker from the television show Good Times. I pulled on my Chucks, wondering why I didn't have any shoes that felt this comfortable, as if they had been made just for my feet. Then I made myself a bowl of cereal and waited for my mother to complete her plans to take me in for a drug test. I was actually looking forward to it. Then she would know that I wasn't like Kush, and the silent accusations would have to end. 
My sister was sprawled out on the living room floor watching Saturday morning cartoons, and when the commercials came on I sat more enthralled by them than by the show. I saw the "new" Atari game system, He-Man and Star Wars action figures, and tabletop arcade games featuring Pac Man. 
Mama came into the room looking hip in a pair of tight-fitting jeans and an African print blouse that hugged her shapely torso. She was so pretty, mostly because she felt it and it therefore showed. It had taken me years to learn that little secret. 
"Kenya and I have to run some errands, but we'll be back before long. You are to stay in this house, Nubia, and no visitors. Understand?"
"Yes, ma'am," my sister replied while barely turning from the television set. I figured that she would be cool with staying in as long as she had her endless supply of cartoons to fortify her. I wasn't surprised that mama didn't tell Nubia what we were really up to. After all, she didn't want to put ideas into her head.
When we got into the car, Mama turned to me. "You look good in those shorts. I told you that you weren't too big to wear shorts. You ought to get stylin' more, Kenya. You are such a pretty girl. Stop hiding your beauty."
I smiled. "I want to start dressing like a sixteen-year-old and not like I'm twelve."
She grinned as she drove. "Why? You got a boyfriend that you haven't told me about?"
"No," I said flatly. "I just want to be better, Mom."
"Mom? Where did that come from? You've been watching too much Brady Bunch."
Yeah, she was right about the slip in calling her Mom. I hadn't started calling her that until after I'd gone away for college and using the word "mama" made me feel like I was still under her roof.
"Kenya. You know that you can talk to me about things, right?"
I turned in my seat to look at her fully. "You mean about me coming from the future?"
Her lip twisted, she shook her head, and she turned up the radio angrily. She thought I was just messing with her. 
Mama took me to a free clinic. I guess she was too ashamed to take me to our family doctor because this was all so ludicrous. I peed in a cup, and within the hour the results came back clean. Completely clean. 
As we returned to the car Mama gave me a confused look. Finally she asked what had obviously been eating at her. "What do you mean that you're from the future?"
With relief I stopped walking and looked at her with as much sincerity as I could muster. "I'm fifty-one years old. It's the year 2016 and I'm an accountant with two grown kids. One day I went to work and found a strange letter on my keyboard. On it was written September seventh, 1982." 
My mother seemed to be listening intently.  
"I went to bed that night, and when I woke up it was September seventh, 1982. Remember when I asked you the date?"
My mother shook her head in confusion. "Kenya, what you're saying is insane. You do realize that, don't you?"
"I know it sounds crazy, Mom—Mama, but it's the truth. I just want to go back to my own time! I don't know how—"
"Where's the letter, the one with the date?" she interrupted.
 "I don't have it. It's in my purse…back in 2016."
"2016? Why that date?"
I shrugged. "I don't know. I just know that I need to go back." I feel as if I'm leaving important things undone. Who is taking care of my mom and the reports need to be done at work? But if I'm not there, does that mean time has stopped? I'm here, but there was no sixteen-year-old Kenya waiting for me. My head ached thinking about this. I was no dummy, but I had never been into the whole Star Trek, Star Wars, space-time continuum. Hell, I got confused watching Back To The Future.
"So am I still alive in this future?" she asked.
"Yes, and so is Kush and Nubia. Nubia has kids but she moved to Atlanta."
My mother shook her head and rubbed her face. "Do they have flying cars in the future? Do we read minds instead of talking?"
My eyebrows lifted. "No, none of that. We have cell phones, though."
"Cell phones?"
"They're portable telephones, and people don't really use them to talk on. People use them to text or for social media."
"They…text?"
"They type messages, yes."
"What?" Her eyes narrowed. "They type instead of talk?"
I shook my head slightly. "Yes. It's one way to say something you don't want to say without having to look someone in the eye. It's complicated." My eyebrows shot up quickly. "Oh! We have a black president!"
Mama put her hands on her hips. "Now I know you're a damn lie!" 
"Why?" I asked in confusion. "You've been saying forever that we're going to have a black president."
"Because if we had a black president, you would have told me that before anything else! You know how I feel about blacks and politics! The first thing you would have done is said, 'I'm from the future and we have a black president.' In fact, you would have said 'We're going to have a black president' and then said you were from the future." She turned and began walking. "Come on, let's go!"
When we got to the car I tried once again. "Mama. Why would I make this stuff up?"
She looked at me. "Because you need to speak to a psychiatrist, that's why."
Oh my God. Bill was right. She wouldn't believe that I was from the future, only that I had lost my mind. 




Pepper writes stories that span the gamut from humorous to heartfelt, however the common theme is crossing boundaries.
