We've spent much of the last eight years trying to answer a simple question: what are the world's biggest and most urgent problems?
We wanted to have a positive impact with our careers, and so we set out to discover where our efforts would be most effective.
Our analysis suggests that choosing the right problem could increase your impact over 100 times, and so be the most important decision you ever make.
In trying to answer this question, we've had to tear up everything we thought we knew, and then again more than once.
Here, we give a summary of what we've learned. Read on to hear why ending diarrhoea might save as many lives as world peace, why artificial intelligence might be even more important, and what to do in your own career to make the most urgent changes happen.
In short, the most urgent problems are those where people can have the greatest impact by working on them. As we explained in the previous article, this means problems that are not only big, but also neglected and solvable. The more neglected and solvable, the further extra effort will go. And this means they're not the problems that first come to mind.

Why issues facing rich countries aren't always the most important—and why charity shouldn't always begin at home.

Most people who want to do good focus on issues in their home country. In rich countries, this often means issues like homelessness, inner city education and unemployment. But are these the most urgent issues?
In the US, only 4% of charitable donations are spent on international causes. The most popular careers for talented graduates who want to do good are teaching and health, which receive about 18% of graduates, and mainly involve helping people in the US.
There are good reasons to focus on helping your own country – you know more about the issues, and you might feel you have special obligations to it. However, back in 2009, we encountered the following series of facts. They led us to think that the most urgent problems are not local, but rather poverty in the world's poorest countries, especially efforts within health, such as fighting malaria and parasitic worms.
Why do we say that? Well, here's a pretty staggering chart we came across in our research.
It's the distribution of world income that we saw in an earlier article.
Even someone living on the US poverty line of $11,000 per year is richer than about 85% of the world's population, and about 20 times wealthier than the world's poorest 1.2 billion, who mostly live in Africa and Asia on under $500 per year. These figures are already adjusted for the fact that money goes further in poor countries (purchasing power parity).
As we also saw earlier, the poorer you are, the bigger difference extra money makes to your welfare. Based on this research, because the poor in Africa are 20 times poorer, we'd expect resources to go about 20 times further in helping them.
There are also only about 47 million people living in relative poverty in the US, about 6% as many as the 800 million in extreme global poverty.
And there are far more resources dedicated to helping this smaller number of people. Total overseas development aid is only about $131bn per year, compared to $900bn spent on welfare in the US.
Finally, as we saw earlier, the majority of US social interventions probably don't work. This is because problems facing the poor in rich countries are complex and hard to solve. Moreover, even the most evidence-backed interventions are expensive and have modest effects.
The same comparison holds for other rich countries, such as the UK, Australia, Canada and the EU. (Though if you live in a developing country, then it may well be best to focus on issues there.)
All this isn't to deny the poor in rich countries have very tough lives, perhaps even worse in some respects than those in the developing world. Rather, the issue is that there are far fewer of them, and they're harder to help.
So if you're not focusing on issues in your home country, what should you focus on?

Global health: a problem where you could really make progress.
What if we were to tell you that, over the second half of the 20th century, progress on treatments for diarrhoea did as much to save lives as achieving world peace over the same period would have done?
The number of deaths each year due to diarrhoea have fallen by 3 million over the last four decades due to advances like oral rehydration therapy.
Meanwhile, all wars and political famines killed about 2 million people per year over the second half of the 20th century.
The global fight against disease is one of humanity's greatest achievements, but it's also an ongoing battle to which you can contribute with your career.
A large fraction of these gains were driven by humanitarian aid, such as the campaign to eradicate smallpox. In fact, although many experts in economics think much international aid hasn't been effective, even the most sceptical agree there's an exception: global health.
For instance, William Easterly, author of White Man's Burden, wrote:
Put the focus back where it belongs: get the poorest people in the world such obvious goods as the vaccines, the antibiotics, the food supplements, the improved seeds, the fertilizer, the roads…. This is not making the poor dependent on handouts; it is giving the poorest people the health, nutrition, education, and other inputs that raise the payoff to their own efforts to better their lives.Within health, where to focus? An economist at the World Bank sent us this data, which also amazed us.
This is a list of health treatments, such as providing tuberculosis medicine or surgeries, ranked by how much health they produce per dollar, as measured in rigorous randomised controlled trials. Health is measured in a standard unit used by health economists, called the "quality-adjusted life year".
The first point is that all these treatments are effective. Essentially all of them would be funded in countries like the US and UK. People in poor countries, however, routinely die from diseases that would certainly have been treated if they'd happened to have been born somewhere else.
Even more surprising, however, is that the top interventions are far better than the average, as shown by the spike on the right. The top interventions, like vaccines, have been shown to have significant benefits, but are also extremely cheap. The top intervention is over ten times more cost-effective than the average, and 15,000 times more than the worst. This means if you were working at a health charity focused on one of the top interventions, you'd expect to have ten times as much impact compared to a randomly selected one.
This study isn't perfect – there were mistakes in the analysis affecting the top results (and that's what you'd expect due to regression to the mean) – but the main point is solid: the best health interventions are many times more effective than the average.
So how much more impact might you make with your career by switching your focus to global health?
Because, as we saw in the first chart, the world's poorest people are over 20 times poorer than the poor in rich countries, resources go about 20 times as far in helping them (read about why here).
Then, if we focus on health, there are cheap, effective interventions that everyone agrees are worth doing. We can use the research in the second chart to pick the very best interventions, letting us have perhaps five times as much impact again. In total, this makes for a 100-fold difference in impact.
Does this check out? After years of research, analysts at GiveWell have estimated that spending $7,500 on 1,500 malaria nets through the Against Malaria Foundation is enough, on average, to prevent one death.

Children from poor families would not have these facilities at all. They could only watch TV and picture books at home. After their parents go to work, they could only play alone.
The other major stages were the same. Anyway, one could roughly imagine the plot if one were to imagine it. Everything would go wrong for the poor while everything would be unimpeded for the rich.
Pei Qian also considered adding some quantifiable data to the game, to let players feel the gap between the two more clearly. For example, the players' current knowledge (professional knowledge, financial awareness, etc.), emotional intelligence (handling people, making friends, etc.), mental health, specific material wealth, etc….
These data would ostensibly affect the player's options. For example, wealth management consciousness of a rich person could speed up his accumulation of material wealth; emotional intelligence could give him more opportunities to make friends with nobles; and his mental health could make it easier for him to adjust his mood at work. There would be problems due to excessive pressure…
However, everything was just on the surface. In fact, they would only affect some trivial branches and would not affect the final outcome.
The reason Pei Qian did this was very simple. If the gameplay could allow the player to visualize the final outcome, then how could he make the player feel disgusted?
If the poor could counterattack and the rich could avoid the fate of being killed, wouldn't it be a great ending?
They must not let that happen!
Moreover, the setting of 'you have a choice on the surface, but everything was predestined' was regarded as a failure in the game industry. Most games would be criticized for doing so.
The game would last until middle-age, which was around 50 years old. As the saying went, be established at 30, have clarity at 40, and know the bidding of the heavens at 50.
To Pei Qian, 50 was the best age to kill off a rich man player. Too early and there would not be enough content; too late and it would not make people feel disgusted.
Fifty-year-old wealthy people were in their prime with their careers taking off. They had already obtained a very good standard of living. Most of them would have good marriages and promising children. Death at this time should be the most unacceptable time for players.
As for the poor… life is basically fixated by the age of 50. The resemblance to their parents had also emerged, and this cycle of poverty has begun to take shape. In short, it was the best age to end this game.
Of course, in addition to these fixed life processes, some unexpected events would also be added during the game. For example: car accidents, sickness, school bullying, pitfalls when buying a house, natural disasters, etc.
These emergencies would also slightly change the flow of the game and, at the same time, clearly show the gap between the poor and the rich in their ability to resist risks when facing these emergencies.
Pei Qian did not intend to do any voice-over this time after learning from the mistakes in Game Designer.
All the content in the game would not contain any emotions or color. All dialogues and behaviors would be as objective as possible so that it would never induce players to have reverse psychology.
Other than that, to prevent people with 'ulterior motives' from forcibly deepening their thinking, Pei Qian set the rich and poor as the two individuals whose paths do not cross at all.
The homeless guy who would kill the rich man in the end would have no link to the poor.
This homeless man would not be the simple, kind-hearted poor man that most people imagined. He had good hands and feet, but he was idle and lazy. He wanted to kill the rich because he was jealous. It was not because of some noble reasons that he resisted the oppression. 
The poor could reach the rich; for example, his boss would be completely unrelated to the protagonist in the rich version. They never had any idea of resisting. He did not want to generate any misunderstanding such as 'the rich oppress the poor'.
In addition to this, there was another important question: how to prevent the pesky Teacher Qiao from over-interpreting this game?
Pei Qian had been thinking very hard about this point, and he finally had an answer.
Force him to his grave with an official response!
Who would listen to you if I were to explain it from the start? How could you backstab me if no one listened to you?
Pei Qian could roughly guess the angles that Teacher Qiao could interpret from. It was nothing more than the rich-poor gap, the Matthew effect. The distribution of social wealth was unreasonable and the classes solidified. 
If his brain circuit was more peculiar, then it may be possible to analyze the poor's lack of financial awareness and short-sightedness, why the rich could not understand the vicious cycle of life after falling to the bottom…
In any case, the topic of the gap between the rich and poor was discussed all over the world. If one was divergent in one's thinking, one could talk about many topics. 
Pei Qian decided to expose these problems as soon as the game was released.

Setsura nodded, and Akito's movements became slower.
"I spoke to them about my problems, and they tossed me away like I was nothing. Even though they told me they would be there by my side. That they would never leave me, in the end, they all left. It was painful for me. But at the same time, I understood why they did what they did. Those people couldn't handle it. Rather than stay with me because of their lack of understanding, their fear that their actions would hurt me. They would rather leave, even if it means me disliking them. Of course, there are those people who leave because of their judgemental mindset."
"What about you, Akito?" Setsura asked.
Akito smiled, "And then you have people like me who actually want to listen, who actually want to help. Just because a few people have left you and abandoned you halfway, doesn't mean everybody will do the same. I'm here for you, Setsura, you can discuss your problems with me. You can rant and complain. It won't change my opinion of you."
Setsura turned away; she didn't want him to see her tears. It was embarrassing. Breaking down the way she did. She even passed out, 'How humiliating.' He probably cut his work short and came here. "You can go back to work now."
He laughed and pulled her into his arms, "Do you think I'll let you go? I think we can do some pretty fun things, now that you've calmed down."
She sighed at his remark, "Are all men beasts after all?"
Akito brought his lips to hers, "They aren't, but won't kissing me make you feel better?"
"You overestimate yourself," Setsura mumbled and kissed him before he could kiss her. Kissing for her was still something new. So, naturally, she is clumsy at it. But Akito didn't take over and allowed her, "Rather than you do the kissing, it's better for me to do so."
"Indeed, that was very nice," he caressed her cheeks. "I'll be here for you, Setsura. So count on me, yeah?"
"I'll try."
Even if this is something she can't get rid of overnight, she does want to try.

Setsura placed the shard in place and sighed deeply. She thought something terrible would happen if she didn't bring this here immediately, but it seems like that isn't the case here. "Ooh, it's glowing brightly," a voice from beside her said.
She sighed, "Don't just pop out of nowhere."
The man who snuck up on her is the one they call Katakura. One of the guardians, his mission is to watch over and assist her. "You're supposed to be helping me, what have you been doing?"
"It's hard to help with Akito around. He guards you so well."
"Don't blame Akito for your slacking."
Katakura didn't reply right away and looked at her. "Somehow, it feels like you've changed."
"I don't know what you're talking about," she brushed off his comment quickly. Actually, she knew what he was talking about. She has changed. Maybe it was because of Akito's pampering, but Setsura did feel a lot more confident these days. Of course, the episode from earlier remained fresh in her mind.
Setsura still felt very embarrassed because of the events that happened earlier. To think she cried like that in front of him. After she calmed down, she scolded herself. How could she have shown him such a weak and vulnerable side of her? It's a good thing Akito is a simple person.


Love across time [Meiji 1895- Tokyo 2019] "You..you murderer!"

Distraught, lost and uncertain Setsura shuts herself away from the world, and her half brother uses this chance to send her away abroad. 

Setsura accepts, but on that day, a grand scale earthquake occurs, right as she is about to board the plane and she wakes up in the middle of the roadside and finds herself in the year 1895. With the help of a man named 'Akito,' she settles into the Meiji era and discovers that the three major "accidents" in her life that occurred, one in 2011 and the two in Tokyo 2019, are connected to a series of cases in 1895 "Mysterious cases of the shard"

Mr. Bright said, "Wow! That's a great name. Kirk means the church where God lives. Literally, God lives in you!" Kirk said, "My sister called me Kirk because she believed I was a boon from God! She once said that her living became far more comfortable when she found me —" The man said, "Found?" Kirk said, "I also wonder why she used to say 'found'. I asked her one day and she said that she was looking for glory and I was born so.... I know it's not too convincing. However, before I could seriously enquire about this... she just passed! And the rest you know already. You know... she used to say that God lives in every soul but I don't believe in this. Either this saying is untrue or the rich are soulless creatures!" Mr. Bright said, "I see... do you think that all the rich people are bad?" Kirk said, "No. You're good. It doesn't matter if rich people are good or bad ... they're always facilitated first...always helped first no matter how minor their problems are! And the poor people always work hard to let their labour stolen by the rich...always live on what is left after the rich had been fed to the fullest ... sometimes, we even have to starve. Humans they call themselves and us! I surely hate those rich people!" The man said, "Listen, I am not rich. I am a middle class or more precisely partly poor man. You're a young boy. I know if the rich suffer like the poor you'll be happy but will that help reduce the numerous poverty stricken children or just increase their number? If the rich starve like the poor, will your sister come back from the dead smiling at the condition of the rich?" Kirk was speechless as these questions reminded him the picture of that slightly smiling face of his dead sister.

Me and Rich got back together our relationship is so perfect we got even closer than before.It feels like a new start with us and I've been feeling like I wanna live the rest of my life with him... Being Mrs.Pleasant💍and Even having a family with Rich👨‍👩‍👧‍👦.

But we didn't care as long as the end of the day I had him and he had me😩🤞🏽.These last two weeks has be unexplainable.I've been seeing Rich on Friday at the fairgrounds and wheww chile aren't we cute as hell together...

There has been some mad hoes from here and there of course trying to mess up our relationship up I didn't worry though cause Rich and I made a promise and I trust that he won't break our promise we made with each other.

The promise was to tell each other everything even if it hurts or causes problems be honest and tell one another everything never to leave one another in the dark about anything.

No matter what and that's what we've been doing. Most people have been calling us their favorite couple or relationship goals but we're not trying to be This what we have is REAL 🗣💍!

Don't nobody understand the reason why we love each other the way we do...but it's not for them to understand.
