Ch.30 - Ancient Ruin
Alex had a few close friends. There were only Katie, Clay, and Bill. But that was enough for him.
    Katie Robins was someone he didn't really know from the alternate timeline that Alex had lived through. But this time, they had become very close friends and, eventually, lovers.
   Clay Rosewood was a friend he knew from the other timeline. But in that timeline, Alex became involved with some illegal activities and Clay had suddenly disappeared along with his family after graduating from Hogwarts.
    Knowing what he knew now, he was sure that the matter of their disappearance had something to do with the Travers family. The Travers patriarch had probably become more paranoid after murdering Clay's father. He feared that his crimes would be exposed eventually. The Rosewoods were probably killed off or forced to flee to another country. Alex was glad that he erased the possibility of that happening this time around.
    As for Bill Weasley, he and Alex had become close friends during their third year in Hogwarts in the alternate timeline. When Alex had gotten desperate after being on the run from Snatchers and the Muggleborn Registration Commission, he was the one he turned to.
    This time around, they were not as close. But, the two of them had become friends after being study partners for Ancient Studies during their later years in Hogwarts. And now, Bill Weasley had become a curse-breaker working in some ancient ruin every day.
    Alex met with Bill in a cafe. To avoid the crowd, they requested a private room for them to dine in and the cafe manager was happy to oblige. They were enjoying their lunch with a cold drink as they catch up on what each other was doing.
    "Celebrity quidditch player and a duelist? You've really spread your wings!" exclaimed Bill. He was still unbelieving of what his friend had done after graduation.
    "Well, one thing led to another. How about you? Curse-breaker so soon? How did you manage that?" asked Alex. He really was not interested in talking about his recent achievements with his friend.
    "Well actually, my boss is Mdm. Rakepick, our DADA professor during our sixth year. You remember her?" said Bill.
    "Oh yeah. She was one of the best DADA professors we had. It was always new every year, after all. Hey, as the expert curse-breaker here, do you think the curse about the DADA position is really true?"
    "It must be. Two consecutive years would be a coincidence. Five? That would be extraordinary. Twenty? Well, that's something else. They have already brought in some curse-breakers, you know? But, they found nothing," explained Bill.
    "That's really bad. In the end, the students are the ones who are affected the most."
    "Yeah, I have to remember to give my brothers some training to make sure they could at least defend themselves."
    "How are your brothers anyway? I heard from a mutual friend that Charlie was going to be a dragon-handler. How about that other one, Percy?"
    "Yes, he is. Oh, he got a talking to from mom when he told us. And Percy is doing pretty well in Hogwarts. It's Fred and George that I worry about, the twins. This is their second year. I'm sure Prof. McGonagall is always shouting at them every day," said Bill laughing. He was always the most animated when speaking about his siblings.
    "Oh. I'm sure Prof. McGonagall enjoys seeing mischievous students every once in a while. Your brothers must be her favorite students at this point."
    Alex remembered the time when the Weasleys lost one of their own when Fred died at the Battle of Hogwarts. He must make sure that things would not turn out the same way.
    "That is true, she wouldn't have survived this long as the Head of Gryffindor House otherwise. Anyway, speaking of my brothers, could I get your autograph for each of them? It must be weird for your friend to ask you. But, it would truly make their day, you know?" said Bill feeling quite embarrassed.
    "Of course, give it here. I'll sign them all," said Alex as he took the copies of the M-Sports issue with the article about him that Bill had apparently brought.
    Alex made sure to write a unique message for each of Bill's siblings.
    "Thanks, this is really great. And just in time for Christmas too," said Bill.
    "It's nothing. I'm glad to do it."
    "To return the favor, how about I give you a tour in one of our dig sites? I know you'll find it interesting. It's a newly discovered ruin somewhere in the middle of the desert. Obviously magical."
    "Is that allowed? I don't want to get you in trouble in your work."
    "Access is restricted, but it's not totally prohibited. As long as we do not get in the way, it should be fine."
    "Really? That does sound interesting."
    "We can go now if you like. It shouldn't be that busy over there at this time. I can take you using  'Apparition'."
    "Okay. Let's go."
    They paid for their meals and stepped outside the cafe before dis-apparating.

They arrived in front of the entrance to the archaeological dig site somewhere in the Western Desert (West of the Nile). There was no river or oasis within 10 miles. That was the first hint that made the explorers suspect that the ancient ruin was inhabited by magical people once. Only a wizard or witch could live so far from water in the desert.
    At the entrance to the enclosed camp, Bill and Alex were asked for their identification. Alex was given a visitor's pass that was valid only for the day. From there, they had to go on foot to reach the site of the ruins. Once inside the camp, Alex could tell that the area was warded against Apparition, portkey, and flying. This was probably a security measure that Gringotts had insisted on.
    A few people and goblins can be seen under the biggest tent on the camp. They were examining some objects while using all sorts of diagnostic spells on them. These people were the researchers and archivers.
    Most of the people around the camp was there for security. Alex was sure that they were from the 'Arms'. They acted professional and alert, and Alex could tell that their guard posts were strategically located.
    The camp, however, was too unorganized in Alex's opinion. Surely they could have used a more systematical approach when establishing it. The living area and the research area was to close to the area where the ruin entrance was. For Alex, it would be a lot safer and easier to secure if those three areas were separated from one another.
    The ruin itself was located about twenty feet underground. A simple opening in the ground with a spiraling staircase functioned as the only access to the ruin. The ancient structure itself was smaller than expected. The denser layer of sand that surrounded the ruin suggested that it was unnaturally concealed by using magic.
    Based on the initial examinations of the researchers, the ruin was created during the first century. It wasn't as old as the most notable ruins in Egypt. But anything that existed before the 'Statute of Secrecy' was of interest to wizards. And, anything sought after by wizards were profitable to Gringotts.
    Historically, the era was interesting because it was the century after Cleopatra's death. The Roman was still establishing their rule of Egypt.
    For that reason, the researchers in the camp suspected that the underground structure was created as a hideout of an Egyptian wizard who was being hunted by Roman wizards. The magical knowledge of a wizard from the later years of the Ptolemaic Kingdom (Cleopatra's Kingdom) could be very valuable as they would include both Ancient Greek magic and native Egyptian magic.
    When they entered the ruins, Alex recognized some of the architectural features that still survived. Like Bill, he had also studied the Ancients, but, his Interests on it was more academic than Bill's.
    "These features here, they are very intricate. Most likely, the person who created this was not always planning of hiding. This was probably a house that one could be proud of," observed Alex.
    "That's interesting, but the researchers are sure that this was used as a hiding place. All the documents inside suggested at much," said Bill.
    "Hm... Perhaps the troubles in that era forced the owner to hide his own house? But, if the person truly meant to hide himself, why use his own house? or why bother decorating it in the first place? Did they found some human remains?"
    "No. They did not, actually. The wizard must have chosen to abandon this hiding place and buried it with sand. If you walk over here, this chamber was some sort of library. Most of the books found here are genealogical records of Egyptian wizarding families. The others were just records of events that happened during that era, mostly about Roman atrocities. But they are also pretty biased. Whoever built this structure really hated the Romans, especially their wizards who were described as 'traitors who have turned their backs on their kind'," explained Bill.
    "Blood traitors? In classical times?" asked Alex in disbelief.
    "Obviously, the term 'Blood Traitors' wasn't coined yet at the time. Think of the time and ink he could have saved," he added as a joke.
    Alex knew from Bill's stories that the term had been used to describe the Weasleys. He was also interested that the accusation that a wizard might have betrayed another wizard to the muggles had existed before the 'Statute of Secrecy'.
    But thinking about again, it made a lot of sense. Magic or no magic didn't really make a difference to a truly amoral person. If a person could really gain power and influence by sacrificing other wizards, what would stop him from doing so?
    That was how the witch hunters flourished in colonial America when they hunted other wizards and witches in exchange for the rewards. One of the genealogical books he read in Hogwarts also suggested that Armand Malfoy who immigrated to England gained influence quickly among English high society by solving 'magical problems' for King William I. To this day, the Malfoys still lived on the lands awarded to them by the muggle king for their services.
    Continuing with the tour, Bill showed him the other chambers in the underground ruin. However, they were just ordinary spaces intended for sleeping, dining, and cooking. And, nothing about them really stood out.
    Just as they were about to leave, they were stopped by a senior curse-breaker on the site.
    "Bill, what are you doing here with a visitor? I told you how dangerous It could be," said Mdm. Rakepick.
    "Don't worry, Professor. We didn't touch anything. Besides, Alex here can protect himself just fine. You remember him, right?" said Bill.
    "Don't call me professor. I'm no longer your DADA teacher. And of course, I remember you, Alexander. It isn't every day that your former student becomes a dueling champion. It's good to see you."
    "It's good to see you too, Mdm. Rakepick. I'm curious how is Bill as a curse-breaker?" asked Alex.
    "Well, he is very smart. But, I seriously worry about him."
    "I take all the precaution, just like you showed me," protested Bill.
    "You do. But I always tell you that the curses in these ruins are not always as you expect. It's not enough to be cautious, you have to be suspicious. Every curse or trap in a ruin wants to kill you," said Mdm. Rakepick. She turned to Alex and said, "Why? Are you interested in becoming a curse-breaker? Do you have a NEWT in DADA, Charms, Ancient studies, and Study of Ancient Runes?"
    "Yes, I do. But I'm not thinking of applying. I'm just here to visit."
    "That's fine. But you can't stay here for too long. It's almost time for the researchers to go back inside and explore the ruins. So, Bill and I would have to accompany them to make sure they don't step on a Bone-vanishing curse or something. We would be too occupied to keep you company."
    "Of course. I understand. I'll be seeing you later," said Alex.
    Bill walked him out of the camp. They both said their goodbyes before Alex left by dis-apparating.

Author's Note:
    Egypt was conquered by Alexander the Great in the fourth century BC. He chose Ptolemy I, one of his generals, to rule Egypt, thereby creating the Ptolemaic Kingdom. Ptolemy I is the ancestor of the famous Cleopatra who was the last of the Ptolemaic ruler of Egypt. She died around 30 BC. That was when the Romans truly took over. Egypt had flourished under Roman rule until around 7th century AD.
    Now, imagine there were wizards involved. There were plenty of uprisings during the Ptolemaic rule. The Egyptian wizards would have been the hardest resistance to destroy. The muggle rulers of the time would know that the best way to deal with wizards is by sending other wizards against them. So, the Greek wizards would have to force the Egyptian wizards to submit and teach them eventually to be more like the Greeks.
     By the time of Cleopatra's rule, all Egyptian wizards were probably serving the Kingdom in some capacity like royal warlocks. The Roman wizards would have given the Egyptian wizards the choice to submit or be killed so that the Roman take over would be smooth. And they must have been successful enough that the Romans allowed Alexandria to flourish and be considered as one of the most important cities in the Roman Empire for a time.
    Basically, wizards would perform this role to gain some sort of political power by themselves even though some of them may have looked down on the non-magical people. And, the system would continue for a long time until superstition against magical people became prominent enough and witches and wizards were persecuted en masse. 
    Regarding the Malfoy family, that information was based on the Harry Potter Wiki. It was interesting to me. I find it ironic that the origin of the influence and wealth of the Malfoys was earned through servitude to a muggle king and by solving the king's 'magical problems' (most likely other wizards). They already hated muggles even then. But if working with muggles earned them power and prestige, they didn't mind at all. Furthermore, the Malfoys were actually against the enactment of the Statute of Secrecy, as it would remove them from the position of power that they have gained in the high court of the muggles.
    Patricia Rakepick is a character from the mobile game. I think she was the DADA professor for Bill's 6th or 7th year. she wasn't exactly a good character in the game. But, let's just say none of that happened. She went back to be a curse-breaker after her time as a Hogwarts professor.

"The Rosetta stone, made in granodiorite stele stone was found in 1779. This is a decree issued by King Ptolemy the 5th during the ptolemaic Dynasty in 196 B.C. 

It has 3 writing languages. They are Ancient egyptian hieroglyphic scripts, Demotic scripts and the last one on the bottom is Ancient greek."

The person speaking is our mc, who works at the british museum as a tour guide.

"Professor Sanders, Can the rosetta stone decipher alien languages from space?" said a person from the group of tourist.

I sigh and in my thoughts i said, "Another weird one came, today."

"Well, we haven't come across writings from other worlds. But like the rosetta stone, as long as we find the key we can decode it. It can be a letters or a symbols that keeps repeating until it forms simple words, then sentences." i answered.

"Okay, this concludes our tour! If you have any questions, you have my email on the pamphlet given to you at the beginning of our tour. If you don't have one, we have more copies at the reception table at the entrance.

CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!

A sound of applause from tourist for a job well done. After a few handshakes, I walked back to my office. 

As i arrive at my office, i sat down tired at my chair. As I look at the bookshelf filled with research books on ancient egypt, inscription codes and other theories. I began to think if this is the life i really want.

I grew up watching Indiana Jones in the movies, in which inspired me to become an archeologist. Where is the adventure? Where are the action?   I did not know that I will be stuck in the office or stuck as a tour guide.

I contemplated a bit. Then grabbed the remote and turn on the news.

"Breaking news today, a suicide bomber just detonated himself at famous landmark - Big Ben Clock Tower. All citizen is warned to stay in your homes since it is not known if there are any other attacks coming." -news  reporter.

I made a deep sigh and said, " Another terrorist attack, the world is getting crazier and crazier each day. It's not safe to go out anymore." 

I look at the clock and saw i have half an hour before i clock out off of work. I turned the tv off and pick up my tablet and continued reading a novel i got hooked up on. The tittle is <tales of demons and gods>. I was watching the anime a bit but got turned off, so i started to read the light novel and found it more interesting. The more i read it, the more i got hooked.

Time came for me to go home. I punch out on my time card and headed out towards the entrance. 

I take the train home, so i headed to the subway. It was very crowded at the subway since everyone is heading home. While waiting for my train, i picked up my tablet and started reading again to pass time.

"Train heading to ...arriving ..please clear..." I heard the announcement and turned off my tablet.

KABOOOOOM!

Out of nowhere, an explosion so loud that it stopped my heart for a second. Everything happened so fast. 
The next thing i new that part of the train was flying infront of me. I still haven't process anything or what have just happen. Everything just turn into darkness.

I open my eyes and i was in bed looking at the ceiling. But the ceiling i'm looking at is not my room or a hospital ceiling because it is too luxurious. It has a Crystal chandelier and the walls are overly decorated, too much for my taste.
I tried to get up, but unable to do so. My whole body is just in too much pain. I looked around and don't recognize a portrait of a kid hanging on the wall.

AAAAAAHHHHHH!

I screamed in pain as i grabbed my head, when a massive amount of memories invade my mind. Memories of a person named Chen Long. 

The door opened quickly, and 2 person barged in. I looked into the memories that came in my mind, and recognized the two people. The old guy is the dad named Chen Zhenlong, and the kid is the older brother named Chen Linjian.

They jumped and hugged gave me a bear hug.

AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHHH!
The pain was so bad. Are they trying to kill me! I'm a freaking patient you freaking bastards!!! I yelled in my head.

"Long! The doctor said you have died! I knew he was a quack doctor! Huhhuhhu! Thank you for being alive! - Linjian said while tears pouring out his eyes.

"It's good to see you well Long! You gave us a heart attack when we thought you died." - Chen Zhenlong said while holding his tears.

"Guys, please stop hugging me! I hurts so bad! If I'm not dead, then I'm dying right now!"

They both let go and apologized. I breath in releif and looked at them. "Who's this person Long? And why are you calling me Long?"

They look at each other and then looked at me. They both yelled at a servant, "Call the doctor quick, he has amnesia!"

More than 2,000 years ago, Alexandria Port had been a small and insignificant city in ancient Egypt. It was only after Alexander the Great conquered it that the city rose in prominence.
The city was close to the Nile River Delta system, yet far enough away to avoid the annual floods caused by the Nile. At the same time, it was easily accessible with Africa to the south, the Mediterranean to the north, and the Middle East to the east. Outside of the harbor, a group of islands called the Faros Islands surrounded it, providing a natural shelter for the port. These factors combined provided the city with an unfair and unique geographical advantage.
It was so unique that Alexander the Great decided that he would build a new city here and name it after himself.
After his death, his general, Ptolemy, seized the opportunity to separate ancient Egypt from the rest of the greater empire and declared himself the Pharaoh of Egypt. He situated this place as the capital of ancient Egypt, and this continued for many generations until the death of Cleopatra the Queen. After that, Egypt was annexed and captured by the Romans, thereby becoming one of the many provinces of Rome.
In the three hundred years of Alexandria's existence as the capital of Egypt, the Ptolemy family had built up the nation's power and vastly transformed the city. The family had constructed the Alexandria Lighthouse and the Great Library. Unfortunately, both buildings were later destroyed in natural disasters and man-made disasters, more severely by the latter. Although it was not included in the Seven Wonders of the World, the loss of the Great Library was a significant loss to the progress of humanity.
It was also during this period that the worship of cat gods in ancient Egypt reached its peak. Although the Temple of Bastet was located in the city of Zagazig, the tradition of love and respect for cats in Alexandria remained up until this day.
Like Cairo, Alexandria was divided into the old and new parts of the city. The fish market where the stray cats ran rampant was located in the old city. Although the overall condition of the city was better compared with the city of Cairo, it was still relatively run-down when compared to a small city in rural China. Many low-rise buildings were reminiscent of China in the 1990s.
Although the elfins were lured to the fish markets by the stray cats, they were not interested in Egyptian grilled fish. Zhang Zian still had a bitter taste in his mouth, left behind by the scaled grilled fish he'd eaten in the morning. He had no intention to eat another grilled fish.
There was a saying that, while overseas, when in doubt of what to eat, one should look for a KFC or McDonald's and add a cup of fizzy soft drink. These fast food joints were similar across the globe, and one was unlikely to die from eating at those places.
Zhang Zian found a KFC and ordered a ton of takeout for the elfins and himself. While they were eating, Vladimir took the opportunity to run about and mingle with the local stray cats.
There was not much time left for Vladimir to establish a local branch for the Meow Meow organization.
Although Alexandria had a long history, her glorious past had all but vanished. Buildings that could've been destroyed had been destroyed. Those who could emigrate had already left for other countries. The current Great Library that stood at the original site was a copy, though it was difficult to call it an exact replica. This was because no one knew how it had looked before.
In addition, the original site of the Alexandria Lighthouse had even been taken over by the Magpie. Two obelisks of the lighthouse, called "The Arrows of Cleopatra," had also been moved to the Thames in London and Central Park in New York. Therefore, the city seemed to have nothing of worth to visit and did not give Fina a place to reminisce in, making her a little disappointed.
Zhang Zian drove to the beach and found himself a remote corner to enjoy the scenery while eating his KFC.
The advantage of a coastal city was that the air was not as dry as it was inland. The sky was covered with just the right amount of clouds and helped to shade people from the harsh Egyptian sunshine. It had the further advantage of a sea breeze that helped to dissipate heat left over from the previous few days.
By the coast, there were two breakwaters that surrounded the eastern port. The breakwaters left a small gap that ships used to enter and exit the port. However, in the 8th century A.D., the eastern port had been abandoned due to a massive earthquake. The port could now only be used as a spot for leisure. Currently, the city's main port was the western port.
Many private yachts, both small and large, floated gracefully in the deep blue sea. Their presence further reflected the gap between the rich and the poor of Egypt.
On the breakwater, couples walked together. There were also a few parents along with their children, running happily in the sand. As a city that bridged the three continents of Asia, Africa, and Europe, the blend of these three cultures was reflected in the skin color of the local children. Many of them were beautiful mixed-race children, and couples often had different skin tones.
Farther away from the beach, dense umbrellas packed the area like mushrooms sprouting in the forests after the rain. A large number of tourists from Europe came here for their vacations, to enjoy the exotic culture of the city as well as the cheaper prices on just about everything.
There was a significant difference between the beaches here and the beaches in other parts of the world. The beachgoers, both men and women, generally wore a little too much. Zhang Zian was sorely disappointed. He even saw several locals wearing robes and headscarves as they dove straight into the sea. They stood waist-deep in the sea water to play with their children. One could not help but think that they might be going into the water to commit suicide if one did not understand their cultural practices.
Fina half-squatted on a stone and looked out into the vast sea where the sails were moving. No one knew what was on her mind.
More than 1,600 years ago, Cleopatra's palace had sunk into the seabed after a massive earthquake. It happened right under the steady stream of waves crashing on the shoreline. Many archaeologists and divers were interested to find the palace and repeatedly organized diving archaeological expeditions. They hoped to find the secrets of the Ptolemy dynasty from the ruins on the seabed. Of course, they were most eager to find Cleopatra's mausoleum or the sarcophagus.
There were many speculations about the exact location of Cleopatra's mausoleum, but there was no evidence to support it.
After Cleopatra disappeared, all information related to her disappeared. Even her death, whether it was a suicide or murder, was a complete mystery. All remaining relevant descriptions were written by the historian Plutarch. His writings formed the basis of the famous biographical movie about Cleopatra. Therefore, unless the man could've been resurrected, the truth of her life would almost certainly remain hidden.
However, logically speaking, although she was the last ruler of ancient Egypt, the ruler's mausoleum or sarcophagus was generally not known to be located in the palace. Therefore, the search on the seabed for their existence was probably futile.
Octavian would have given her a decent enough funeral because Egyptians at that time had loved her very much. He would not have risked angering the Egyptians over the improper burial of a dead woman.
Fina's golden fur was highly suitable for reflecting the sun's rays, and the sea breeze made it sway smoothly. She attracted the attention of many passersby. This was not something to be surprised about. In this cat-loving city, many had seen cats, but none as majestic as Fina.
Fina might have known some secrets behind the queen's death, but she had no intentions of making that known. As long as the trip to Egypt continued and she was satisfied with how she was serviced, perhaps she would share some secrets with Zhang Zian. Hopefully it would be enough to satisfy his curiosity and provide him with some gossip to speak of.
After dinner, Vladimir rushed back to join the group. Zhang Zian, together with the elfins, continued their journey to the west, leaving the harbor city that was now nothing but a shell of its glorious past.

Demosthenes, a Orator of the Greeks warned them of the Incoming Storm of Philip. The Greeks never listened, and the Storm came, they were conquered by the Macedons, Philip was Assassinated on the City of Aigai on 336 BCE. His son, Alexander, succeeded him, Alexander went on to conquer Persia, his Empire stretched from Greece, to Northern India, he died of unknown causes in 323 BCE, He left his empire to his three trusted men, namely Ptolemy, for Egypt, Seleucus, for Asia, and Antigones for Greece.

In the next half-hour, they talked about their lives in the muggle world, Ron's brothers and things like that, until Andrew remembers what he promised Harry.
"Hey, Harry, I forgot to tell you what I know of your parents right."
Both Ron and Harry stopped talking and paid attention to Andrew.
"Well, just saying, my mother and father didn't tell me much, but I guess you will at least understand your parents better after what I'll tell you.
To start, they told me that your parents always fought against the dark lord, they wanted to stop that madness. The main reason for this is probably your mother's origins as a muggle-born and the fact that lots of your parents friends were muggle-born as well.
My mother used to say that your mother was really gentle and friendly, she even had some friends in Slytherin, for example, my parents.
But they also told me that your father was some kind of prankster? They didn't elaborate too much on the matter, and I don't know exactly what they mean, all I know is that when they were in Hogwarts my father couldn't stand your father, this only changed a few years later."
"Thank you, Andrew. Its the first time someone actually told me something about my parents." Harry thanked him with watery eyes.
Andrew just smiled and gave him the photo inside his pocket.
"This is..."
"My father asked me to give it to you, he didn't tell me the history behind the photo but still, it's better than nothing."
"Than-" Before Harry could finish Andrew interrupted him and said.
"If you truly consider yourself my friend, then stop thanking me for everything, friends are meant for things like that, Harry."
With a smile on his face, he nodded.
After a few seconds of silence, Ron reached inside his jacket and pulled out a fat grey rat.
"His name's Scabbers and he's useless, he hardly ever wakes up. Percy got an owl from my dad for being made a prefect, but they couldn't aff— I mean, I got Scabbers instead."
Ron's ears went pink. He seemed to think he'd said too much because he went back to staring out of the window.
Harry and Andrew didn't think there was anything wrong with not being able to afford an owl. Harry because he basically didn't have any money until a month ago and could only wear Dudley's old clothes and never got proper birthday presents.
As for Andrew, he said that he basically studied at the muggle schools all his life before going to Hogwarts, so he had quite a few muggle friends that were in a bad monetary situation.
This seemed to cheer Ron up.
Harry then continued explaining his situation.
"And until Hagrid told me, I didn't know anything about being a wizard or about my parents or Voldemort —"
Ron and Andrew gasped.
"What?" said Harry
"Harry, you should never say his name, it's cursed!" Replied Andrew.
"Wow Harry, you are really brave!" said Ron, with amazement in his eyes.
"I'm not trying to be brave or anything, saying the name," said Harry, "I just never knew you shouldn't. See what I mean? I've got loads to learn... I bet," he added, voicing for the first time something that had been worrying him a lot lately, "I bet I'm the worst in the class."
"You won't be. There are loads of people who come from Muggle families and they learn quickly enough." Andrew replied with a smile on his face.
As they continued to talk, the train soon carried them out of London, taking them between green pastures full of cows.
At around half-past twelve, there was a loud noise outside in the hall and a smiling, dimpled woman came through the door and said, "Anything off the cart, dears?"
Ron's ears went red when he murmured something. Harry, on the contrary, seemed really excited as he bought literally everything the woman had.
"Hey, Harry, be careful not to get a stomach ache," said Andrew, laughing at his friend's actions. "Eat too much and you will spend a few hours in the toilet."
"Don't worry, I won't eat everything, do you want anything? Just take what you want."
"Thank you." Said Ron with a wide smile on his face, as he reached out his hand to grab a few snacks.
A few minutes later, Harry grabbed one of the candies and had a confused look on his face.
"What are these?" Harry asked Ron, holding up a pack of Chocolate Frogs. "They're not really frogs, are they?" He was starting to feel that nothing would surprise him.
"No," said Ron. "But see what the card is. I'm missing Agrippa."
"What?"
"Oh, of course, you wouldn't know — Chocolate Frogs have cards inside them, you know, to collect — famous witches and wizards. I've got about five hundred, but I haven't got Agrippa or Ptolemy."
Harry unwrapped his Chocolate Frog and picked up the card. It showed a man's face. He wore half-moon glasses, had a long, crooked nose, and flowing silver hair, beard, and mustache. Underneath the picture was the name Albus Dumbledore.
"So this is Dumbledore!" said Harry.
"Don't tell me you'd never heard of Dumbledore!" said Ron.
"Can I have a frog? I might get Agrippa — thanks —"
Andrew didn't really care about those cards, in his opinion, collecting potion formulas was much more interesting.
As soon as he finished his line of thought, Harry exclaimed.
"He's gone!"
"Well, you can't expect him to hang around all day," said Ron. "He'll be back. No, I've got Morgana again and I've got about six of her... do you want it? You can start collecting."
Ron's eyes strayed to the pile of Chocolate Frogs waiting to be unwrapped.
"Help yourself," said Harry. "But in, you know, the Muggle world, people just stay put in photos."
"Do they? What, they don't move at all?" Ron sounded amazed.
"Weird!"
"Do you guys really like those things? They are just overpriced pictures with chocolate." Andrew asked, seemingly confused.
"You wouldn't understand my peculiar tastes, I've been collecting those things for quite some time now!"

A few hours later.
There was a knock on the door of their compartment and the round-faced boy Harry had passed on platform nine and three-quarters came in. He looked tearful.
Behind him was a girl with light skin, bright brown eyes, lots of bushy brown hair that was already wearing Hogwarts uniform.
Andrew looked at her and couldn't help but blush a little, in his mind there was only one thing, "She is so cute!"
"Sorry," he said, "but have you seen a toad at all?" When they shook their heads, he wailed, "I've lost him! He keeps getting away from me!"
"Don't worry, He'll turn up," said Harry.
"Yes," said the boy miserably. "Well, if you see him..."
The boy was almost gone when suddenly Andrew grabbed his arm pulling him and girl inside the compartment.
"There is an easy way to solve this problem." Said Andrew with a smile on his face.
"Oh, really?" Said the girl, she had a bossy sort of voice, "Will you use magic then?"
"Eh, y-yes, it's a simple spell!" Andrew replied while still blushing every time he looked at the girl.
"Let's see it, then." She sat beside Andrew making the boy's head even redder.
Trying to not mind the girl's presence, he turned to the boy that came with her and said.
"What's your name again?"
"Ah, it's Neville."
"Can you describe your toad, the better your description the easier it will be to find it."
The boy nodded and said everything he could remember of his toad's appearance.
As soon as he finished, Andrew took out his wand and with a flick, he said, "Accio, Trevor!"
Soon after, a toad appeared out of nowhere on Andrew's hands.
"Trevor!" Neville took the frog and hugged it.
"Thanks, er?"
"Jacobs, Andrew Jacobs."
Neville nodded and thanked him again, soon after he left but the girls stayed behind.
"How did you do it? I read about this spell somewhere and it clearly stated that you can't summon living things with it."
"Well, this is just a mistake from the one who created this spell, it is possible to summon livin' beings, however, to do so, one needs a lot of magic control and profound biological understanding of the being you want to summon, this or a lot of luck."
The girl looked at him but didn't seem convinced.
"Quite a useful spell. I've tried a few simple spells, and all of them worked for me. Nobody in my family's magic at all, it was ever such a surprise when I got my letter, but I was ever so pleased, of course, I mean, it's the very best school of witchcraft there is, I've heard — I've learned all our course books by heart, of course, I just hope it will be enough — I'm Hermione Granger, by the way, who are you?"
She said all this very fast.
Seeing that Ron and Harry were panicking because they hadn't learned all the course books yet. Andrew tried not to laugh and answered Hermione first.
"My name is Andrew Jacobs, it's a pleasure to meet you."
"I'm Ron Weasley," Ron muttered.
"Harry Potter," said Harry.
Hermione looked at Harry and Andrew with a surprised look on her face.
"Are you really?" said Hermione. "I know all about you two, of course — I got a few extra books for background reading, and you're in Modern Magical History and The Rise and Fall of the Dark Arts and Great Wizarding Events of the Twentieth Century."
"Are we?" said Harry, feeling dazed.
This time Andrew was the one who replied.
"Yes, we are, but not for the same reasons, my name is only mentioned because I'm the heir of the Jacobs, one of the families who fought against you-know-who, you, on the other hand, is because of your family and the legend about you being the one responsible for the dark lord disappearance."
Hermione nodded and said, "Do either of you know what House you'll be in? I've been asking around, and I hope I'm in Gryffindor, it sounds by far the best; I hear Dumbledore himself was in it, but I suppose Ravenclaw wouldn't be too bad... Anyway, I've to go, you should wear your uniforms, we are almost at Hogwarts."
After she left.
Ron a little upset because he was ignored said.
"Whatever house I'm in, I hope she's not in it."
"What House are your brothers in?" asked Harry.
"Gryffindor," said Ron. Gloom seemed to be settling on him again. "Mom and Dad were in it, too. I don't know what they'll say if I'm not. I don't suppose Ravenclaw would be too bad, but imagine if they put me in Slytherin."
"That's the House Vol-, I mean, You-Know-Who was in?"
"Yup, not all wizards there are bad, however, the worst ones came from there." Replied Andrew as he sighed.
"Did you hear about Gringotts? It's been all over the Daily Prophet, but I don't suppose you get that with the Muggles — someone tried to rob a high-security vault."
"Actually, this happens more than it should with the Muggles." Said Andrews
Harry stared.
"Really? What happened to them?"
"Nothing, that's why it's such big news. They haven't been caught. My dad says it must've been a powerful Dark wizard to get round Gringotts, but they don't think they took anything, that's what's odd. 'Course, everyone gets scared when something like this happens in case You-Know-Who's behind it."
Harry seemed to be deep in his thoughts while Ron went back to eat the snacks.
A few moments later, the compartment door slid open revealing three boys.
One of them being the rat-boy, as for the others Andrew didn't recognize them.
The rat-boy looked at Harry with interest and said, "So, are you really Harry Potter, the boy who lived?"
"Yes," said Harry. He was looking at the other boys. Both of them were thickset and looked extremely mean. Standing on either side of the pale boy, they looked like bodyguards.
"Oh, this is Crabbe and this is Goyle," said the pale boy carelessly, noticing where Harry was looking. "And my name's Malfoy, Draco Malfoy."
Ron gave a slight cough, which might have been hiding a snigger. Draco Malfoy looked at him.
"Think my name's funny, do you? No need to ask who you are. My father told me all the Weasleys have red hair, freckles, and more children than they can afford."
Draco then turned to Andrew.
"As for you, golden eyes, raven hair, and light pale skin. Humph, the biggest blood traitors in the history of magic, you must be Andrew Jacobs."
He turned back to Harry. "You'll soon find out some wizarding families are much better than others, Potter. You don't want to go making friends with the wrong sort. I can help you there."
He held out his hand to shake Harry's, but Harry didn't take it.
"I think I can tell who the wrong sort are for myself, thanks," he said coolly.
Draco Malfoy didn't go red, but a pink tinge appeared in his pale cheeks.
"I'd be careful if I were you, Potter," he said slowly. "Unless you're a bit politer you'll go the same way as your parents. They didn't know what was good for them, either. You hang around with riffraff like the Weasleys and that Hagrid, and stupid families like the Jacobs, and it'll rub off on you."
The trio stood up, but before Harry and Ron could say anything, Andrew's voice exploded in everyone's ear.
"What did you just said!? I dare you to say those words again!"
"Oh, you're going to fight us, are you?" Malfoy sneered.
"Fight? No, I'm gonna do exactly what my parents told me to do with death eaters, in case they attacked me!"
Not willing to say any other world, Andrew extended both of his hands making a gripping gesture.
At that moment, everyone looked at Andrew with fear in their eyes.
Andrew's eyes seemed to be glowing while he somehow made Malfoy and his thugs levitate and hit the wall of the train outside the compartment if anyone looked with attention, they would notice the hand mark on their necks.
They were struggling to breathe and not lose their conscience.
Andrew them approached the trio and said.
"You think I'm some kind of pushover? Let me warn you, you might think that Voldemort is the incarnation of evil, but those who lived in the muggle world, know very well that he is merely a sissy in comparison with the truly evil ones!" With every word, Andrew's grip on their neck seemed to tighten even more, "I've learned quite a lot there, and my family always told to never show compassion to my enemies, if I see you saying something like that again, you will pray that you can die from a heart attack because I'll make sure to kill you and torture you slow enough so that you don't die so easily!"
After he finished speaking, Andrew released his grip on them, Harry and Ron could even swear that the trio had literally urinated in their pants, while they ran back to their compartment. |(Thanks to BarnicanEmpire for helping me fix this part of the text!)|
Soon after Hermione, appeared and wanted to ask what happened, but she looked at Andrew's glowing eyes and was mesmerized.
"Hermione?"
"Ah, yes. Uh... what happened?" she asked, trying not to focus too much on Andrew's eyes.
"Nothing much, just a bunch of fools who doesn't know the word respect."
"All right — I only came in here because people outside are behaving very childishly, racing up and down the corridors," said Hermione in a sniffy voice. "And you've got dirt on your nose," she pointed at Ron, " did you know?"
Ron glared at her as she left. Harry peered out of the window. It was getting dark. He could see mountains and forests under a deep purple sky. The train did seem to be slowing down.
"Hey, Andrew, you were so amazing, what was that?" Asked Ron.
"Just an ability of mine, I developed this a few years after awakening my magic, and now can I control it at ease, however, I can't lift things heavier than what I can lift normally."
Harry looked at Andrew as if he was looking at a monster.
"Wait, you mean that you can carry three boys with almost the same weight at the same time?"
"Uh... Yes?"
Harry and Ron only sighed with a little bit of envy.
A few minutes later, Harry and Ron took off their jackets and pulled on their long black robes. Ron's were a bit short for him, you could see his sneakers underneath them.
A voice echoed through the train: "We will be reaching Hogwarts in five minute's time; Please leave your luggage on the train, it will be taken to the school separately."

After eons of cultivation, a man was able to reach a level where reincarnation was possible!

However, reincarnation was not exactly as he expected, at the time he died and activated this mystical ability, virtually all of his memory was erased and the only ones left were his knowledge of cultivation, alchemy, forge and dharmic spells.

Unfortunately, in the world in which he reincarnated, most of his knowledge became useless and he had to start over from the beginning.

Follow the story of the man who will revolutionize the world of magic and will play the most important role in the fight against the dark lord!

This story happens in an alternate universe, the reason for this is, to give me more freedom. This is a just-for-fun project I have been working with, there will be a lot of non-canon things in the story.

Also, don't expect too much of it, I'm not planning the chapters or anything, this is more like me reading the first seven books again and writing the chapters based on what I think it would be interesting or fun to read next since I really wanted to have a Character of my own going through all the things that happened in the series!

Cao Cao stepped out from the magic circle and what appeared before him, was a great desert plain.

Where is this place...?

Endless stretch of desert spread out before him and the blazing sun from above made him sweat profusely.

This isn't Greece--

Cao Cao wandered aimlessly around for awhile.

Did I mess up?

At that moment--

Cao Cao witnessed separate groups of people carrying wooden cases while travelling across the desert plains, in the direction towards the west.

One of the wooden case was inlaid with gold and troops of servants and mourners carried the wooden case while bearing various gifts.

Many priests walked in front and behind chanting hymns to the gods and reciting various great names and words of power.

The second group of people was much simpler.

Two males carried a simple wooden case while a few women mourned beside.

This should be a funeral...

Cao Cao followed behind.

Very soon--

The two groups of people were heading towards a long stretch of water running just like a river.

Cao Cao watched as the wooden cases were gently laid on the surface of the water, and the water currents carried it along.

This is...

The River Nile!

Cao Cao knew exactly where he was.

Egypt!

Why did the Longinus send me here?

Cao Cao thought inwardly.

Cao Cao left the scene and he traveled a distance away, before releasing the True Longinus and creating another magic circle below him.

Egypt has always been a land of mystery and magic - a land different from all others, difficult to understand, apart and alien, yet strangely fascinating.

When the ancient Greeks 'discovered' it in about 500 BC and began to write about it, Egyptian civilization was drawing towards the end of it's three thousand years of existence. The first Greek historian whose works survived, Herodotus, visited it in about 450 BC and found that only the priests could still read about the ancient hieroglyphs in which inscriptions had been carved or written on the monuments since the days when Menes, the first historical Pharaoh, united the 'Two Lands' in about 3200 BC.

After the time of Herodotus, Ancient Egypt was preserved almost artificially by its Greek conquerors -  Alexander the Great and the descendants of his general Ptolemy. It faded under the Romans and was stamped out completely by the Arab invaders of AD 639 - 46.

It has only been rediscovered during the last hundred and fifty years, when the hieroglyphs were interpreted, the ancient language was translated and the tombs, temples and pyramids excavated and preserved.

'Egypt is the gift of the Nile'.

Cao Cao stepped out of the Magic circle again and this time--

He found himself within a temple.

Flames lit up around the sanctuary of the temple and there was an altar in the center.

Atop the altar, was a large statue.

It was a handsome man in royal dress wearing the crown of Upper Egypt as a plumed headdress and carrying the crook and flail, symbols of kingship. 

Cao Cao recognized this figure.

Osiris...

The Egyptian Lord of the Underworld and Judge of the dead.

Ra, or, as he later became, Amen-Ra, the Sun-God, ranked as one of the strongest beings in the world, was the first and most important of deities in Egyptian Mythology - and the River Nile itself came second, sometimes worshiped as Khnemu, but more usually as part of the whole principle of life and reproduction which came to be enshrined in the person of the Goddess Isis.

But Osiris, God of the world of the dead, was the brother and husband of Isis, and he was the greatest god of all - for all the dead would return to earth when he, the first human Pharaoh of Egypt, came back to be the eternal Pharaoh.

On the walls of the temple, were painted and carved not only scenes from this world, but also from the next -  so that he who dwelt in the tomb should know what to expect and what to do when he 'went West' into the Duat, the Land of the Dead. 

Why did he end up here?

Cao Cao was clueless.

Round the altar on which the statue of Osiris stood, a small fire of cedar wood was burning.

Cao Cao approached closer.

Below the wood that lay atop a stone table, was a single text.

What it this...

Cao Cao wiped away the dirt that covered the text and tried to read it out.

At that moment--

The whole temple rocked and the flame on the altar leapt high--

And then, everything sank into darkness.

But, the Temple of Osiris was not dark.

Cao Cao turned to see whence the light came - and the silence pressed upon him like a weight that held him paralyzed.

Standing on one side of the altar, he saw himself, only suddenly, he knew that it was not his real body, for his body lay in the shadows cast by this form.

What the hell?

The temple roof seemed to open to let him through and a moment later, without warning, Cao Cao was speeding into the West swifter than an arrow from the Ethiop's bow.

Darkness lay over Egypt, but one red gash of sunset shone through the great pass in the mountains of the Western Desert, the Gap of Abydos.

Cao Cao was now on a boat. Splendid was the boat, glorious on it's trappings and it's colors were of amethyst and emerald, jasper and turquoise, lazuli and the deep glow of gold. 

Am I heading into the Land of the Dead?

Cao Cao was starting to panic a little.

Does this mean I'm dead as well?

Cao Cao looked around him to find many other individuals on the boat.

He clearly wasn't alone.

The Boat drew along the ghostly River of Death with golden towing ropes; the portals of the Duat were flung wide and they entered a Region where six serpents were curled on either side.

Cao Cao tried to release the Holy Spear again when the Boat moved through another Region.

Cao Cao turned his head. 

This was the Kingdom of Ra, and the Gods and heroes of old who had lived on earth when he was king dwelt there in peace and happiness, guarded by the Spirit of the Corn who make the wheat and barley flourish and cause the fruits of the earth to increase.

Yet, not one of the dead who voyaged in the Boat of Ra might paused there or set food on the land : for they must pass into Amenti, the Third Region of the Duat where the Judgement Hall of Osiris stood waiting to receive them.

I need to see this--

Very soon, after passing through another Region, Cao Cao and the others disembarked in the outer court of the Judgement Hall of Osiris.

But the Boat itself continued on it's way through the nine other Regions of the Night until the re-birth of Ra from out of the mouth of the Dragon of the East brought dawn once more upon earth and the rising of the sun.

Yet, the sun would not rise unless each night, Ra fought and defeated the Evil Dragon , who seeks to devour him in the Tenth Region of the Night.

Cao Cao remembered this legend which he heard from Mary before.

The Evil Dragon Apophis...

It started to burn inside the unoccupied command nodule inside as I leapt off it into a pair of giant-sized, four-armed xenos cyberdead, Faith batting away razored power-tails plated in adamant, stroking lightning down the tail of one and blowing that apart from within with Chalice's Sun Strike. As it convulsed upright from the bane lightning pulsing up its spine, I swept off its armored head, and dumped my main Tail into the stump to shoot off two more Sun Strikes into its mostly hollow innards, lighting it up from inside as I stood on its front and its four claws quivered inches from my backside, unable to move.

 My stingers pointed backwards at the face of the other one moving to rip at me, and four spikes sizzled out, each taking an eye and frying the circuits in its hollow skull. Faith took the crashing impact of its tail without a problem, and flared with his own Sun Strike, dumping a discharge into the Tail in irritation and punishment for such stupidity. 

 I kicked off the one falling apart in front of me, slammed into the second, Chalice punching right through the diamond-hard chest carapace into its illogic engine, and shut this one down, too.

 But there were more, and Paten didn't stop shooting in my off hand, delivering up sacred bolts of force and non-stop streams of Radiant Lasers that had turned the area around me into a burning hell for cyberdead.

 The girls arrived within a five-minute span, cursing about how I was getting all the fun, and lit into the horde with enthusiastic abandon/deadly focus. There was a lot of Karma to be harvested here, and if they weren't quite as good at it as I was, they were only a notch slower, and certainly tricked out for the fight.

 It did try a drone swarm at a couple times, releasing hundreds, then thousands of them, and found out that pattern-mind coordination of drone units counts as a hivemind to Swarmbane. Spikes and autobows lifted, and Construct-Bane shots carried to surrounding units, turning the fan-driven drones into layers of explosions that never got close enough to dive on us and blow up.

 The same applied to identical line units that were meant to fight as a continuous whole, one unit with multiple bodies and attack vectors. Instead of one body sacrificing itself so the others had open blows, the damage carried to surrounding units through their connection, and the death of one shattered and destroyed the neighboring ones with the overkill.

 Yes, we knew how to fight wave attacks. We not dumb Ranthas, hur hur.

 The girls got the mechadead kills. Cyberdead fell apart in flash-heated, vivus-burning streaks of motion. The whole chamber was burning, burning with vivus feasting on negative energy, crawling on the walls, the floors, up the ceiling of the chamber.

 The elite cyberzombies were cut apart. The tekked-up borg zombies exploded. Mechadead were crippled and fried by internal Sun Shots going off with Shardspikes launched from stingers and tails. Explosive Sun Slams greeted those hammering down on our Shields. Drones wiped themselves and a bunch of their cyberlinked buddies. Tekron automata shredded and necrodermite sizzled and flaked as they crashed down.

 Any of Tekkie's machinery outside its force field were inundated with Bolts and Spikes and blew apart. We didn't even try more than passing shots at the force field, since it was clearly able to stand up against artillery-grade fire. Instead, we blew out the foundations of its dais to get to the power core beneath, matter-eager grenades driving a hole down through it to the power circuits, and then all four of us, with all Tails out and two Autobows each, poured fire into the revealed circuits and let Construct-Bane, Sundering, and Breaking do their things to all that finely-tuned TL 17+ tech running off the dark side of the universe.

 The force field shorted out in a crackle and sparkle of lost energies. Whole chunks of the dais blew out, and sent Tekkie and its proud command platform flying in all directions.

 It fought back, sure enough. The power field around it should have disintegrated any organic matter getting close. The malefic display of various energy beams, rays, cones, and blasts could have sliced through whole companies of men, chopped tanks in two, or simply blown them to random bits of metal and flesh.

 But it couldn't fly, and it couldn't bend dimensions to get away. It could barely hover a few feet off the ground, propelling itself around with paramagnetics... and not fast enough to stop us from encircling it and preventing it from ducking out one of the side corridors... which had long been emptied of their minion undead, transferred in and thrown into the fights against us as we hacked our way through its guards.

 There was no audible talk, there was no reason. At this point, this was a Tekron fighting for its life, and if there was a section of its programming that wanted to die and transcend, it clearly wasn't in control now. It was a multi-ton eight-foot spiked ball of terrible killing energies, bouncing around with force and trying to get past us. It found us way stronger than it was possible for us to be, stopping it from getting away as we poured in the Spiked fire and lashed at it with a hurricane of blows that set up spiraling vortices of vivus around it, hungering for the nexus of negative energy inside powering it all.

 Briggs and three of his senior Boys (-Magnus, Otis, and Shirl, c'mon Mom!-) came crashing down on it, heavy-G belts on full power, collectively weighing many tons and applying that full force to the Tekron as they smashed onto its pulsing spikes... and they were wearing multi-ton loads of heavy metals to complete the job. Rantha resistance prevented their adamant armor from just shattering to dust as they gripped the Tekkie's spikes, grounded out its power field, totally stopped it from moving, and then we really stepped in and started hacking.

 Once it was down to material, even compressed and hardened Necrodermite was not going to deny Sun Striking Full Temp Adamant Construct-butchering soulswords. Chiming and rolling notes, like the ringing of bells making the Last Call, sounded out as we chopped down the spikes spitting energies into our faces, breached the shell beneath, and then all together, fired everything into the interior.

 Streams of solid vivus blew past and over us, carved into the walls all around with resonating patterns of impossible complexity. The complexity of the AI core of the Tekron blew past us, etched itself into the metal, and turned the whole hall into a chewed-up diagram of a circuit board of impossible complexity. 

 The hardened necrodermite shell was completely eaten away from within by the vivus blowing out of the dark matter power core, and crumpled to the ground. It flaked away into white bits as the lads let it go and stepped back, the fronts of their armor scarred and slagged with trails of energy, and patterned with these impossible circuit impressions.

 "Well, that's something you don't see every day," Briggs murmured aloud, looking at his armor and tapping it thoughtfully. "I get the feeling this could be pretty important..."

 "Experimentation time." I thorked the sides of my waist. "I've got the wave pattern!"

 "No shit?" The others hadn't exactly not believed what I'd told the Tekron, but just learning that you could turn a killer robot construct killed by vivus into a Hag was, well, science is weird...

 "Shit!" I confirmed. "And now we have to seal this place up so idiots don't go into it and find out the stuff that is in here, until Tekkie gets reborn and advances high enough to access her incarnation, finding out how to control the place properly... and maybe shut it down, maybe make use of it."

 "Do we really want a pocket dimension operating on negative energy around?" Jensa spoke up quickly.

 "The Dead Walking events on Janus III are about one-fifth of what they are on other worlds, although the ones that happen are always large events. It's like something is drawing away all the negative energy below a certain threshold, so only the big stuff has a chance of happening. How might that have happened?"

 "Ohhhhhh..." everyone said in chorus.

 "Wait, that means having a Tekron based on a planet... is actually possibly a good thing?"

 The vast numbers of Ranthas being born now were being drawn from the curselines of my girls, I wasn't putting out more than two hundred at a time. My direct descendants were split between Briggs and Ranthas, and encouraged to find their own things to do.

 The Warp Zone was actually being pacified now. The sheer number of Level-crazed Hagbloods depriving the Warped of life and limb meant even millions of square miles of territory filled with mutants, Warped, and demons was being devoured wholesale, and the fact said victims also liked to shoot one another didn't help them.

 When that happened, the only recourse for rapid Leveling would be to find a place to fight lots and lots of enemies, meaning the next generation would be going into active warzones with high tech weapons before all their defenses and regeneration were in place... or they'd have to disperse around the galaxy and take it slow but continuous on things like being Termites.

 Needless to say, warzones were far from difficult to find even on the closed-off side of the galaxy, let alone the main one where the Empire pissed off everyone. Megacities could easily fit small gangs of my descendants, and it helped proliferate them across the Empire, even if they had to start from the gutters every time.

 Of course, I had to get to those warzones. Good thing I had the ships to do so, now.

 My personal co-opted Marquise Fleet was soon split in two, with the Glorious Bastard and Bastard Child going out for a tour of worlds with Lizza Rantha and Ptolemy Briggs in charge of them, visiting world after world and obtaining spatial locks and coordinates from each one. Quiet establishment of Green and Gold gangs, and Rantha Corp divisions, would soon follow, and if thousands of people were immigrating out from the hell of the mega-cities each day and pouring into the three unknown systems under my full control, well, it was a rounding error to the planetary governments.

 Unlike most of the Ranthas, this girl decanted alone, and I was waiting for her as she did.

 She vomited up the Vat material like a champ, shook her head, and looked around sharply, measuring the environment and any threat levels, just like we all did. She saw me standing there, did a doubletake, and slowly got to her feet, as wary as always, but also fully capable of feeling the Rantha Hag bond, and knowing I wasn't a threat.

 "Vajra yourself down." I held out a set of clothes, she looked down at herself, and her Vajra pushed all the gunk and goo on her down into the grated floor, cleansing hair and skin perfectly, as if she'd been thoroughly sprayed and then toweled down.

 "Happy Birthday," I told her with a smile, as her feet rose an inch above the floor. She took the clothes and put them on efficiently.

 "Thanks," she said, kind of looking at me. "I feel I'm going to be the butt of some jokes." Her brown hair swirled around her, her dark eyes studying me. "So... clone?" she had to ask.

 "No. You're a Hagchild on the other side of the Hag transformation, basically, after all the stuff my mother set up, a custom Human evolution we call the Rantha Hags. She used the Rantha Curse to empower a template onto our souls, so we get the equivalent of a Seven in Karma, equal to a Hag evolution, and the starting foundation of one Sama Rantha template at birth."

 "Oh." She frowned, considering all that. "So, I'm not Sama Rantha, I just have the memories of her."

 "Correct. The exact same ones I, and all of your sisters and nieces, start with. Your name, however, is Ronnie. My mother did name me Sama, however."

 Her eyebrows rose. "Is there a story behind that?" she had to ask.

 "Yes, but it's a really, really big one, and I won't tell you until you reach Eight, and you really should wait until Ten."
