Some of these are a slightly different genre, called Magical Realism. Many of the later novellas I would write would be more like these stories, rather than my earliest novella.

When Milo woke up inside the capsule, he quickly tapped the button to open it. His body didn't feel sore, and at first, it was hard to differentiate if he actually got out of the game. When Milo looked at the clock on the wall and noticed the time, he had realized it only been a few hours since he logged in. The sound of a running faucet came from the kitchen, so he went towards the sound. Leo had just finished filling a glass of water and was chugging it. As he was drinking, he noticed Milo and held up his hand, signaling him to wait a moment.

"Dude, it's been like two days. I had to refill your capsule with nutrients for you. Everyone was worried, but we figured you were in the middle of something important or enjoying the game." Leo quickly blurted out as he wiped his mouth free of water.

"Uh...what?" Milo said with a confused expression, "Two days? I just looked at the clock; it's only been a few hours.". Quickly, Milo opened his phone, and it was still the same day.

"Aahahaha, I'm fucking with you! Look at your ugly face!" Leo immediately laughed as he slapped his thigh before walking up to Milo, who was shaking his head.

Soon the sound of multiple capsules opening could be heard. Both Leo and Milo headed towards the gaming room and noticed everyone was hopping out of their capsules all at once.

"Damn, server maintenance..." Jason muttered as he instinctively brushed off his clothing.

Nick quickly agreed before complaining, "Well, the announcement didn't look too good. Something about applying some settings for the general public due to a large number of complaints."

Alex raised a brow questioning "What complaints?" before his younger brother Nathaniel who was on his phone, said, "Oi, check out the forums!". 

Quickly everyone gathered around Nathaniel to look at the phone screen, or they opened up it up on their phones. It was a post regarding that the game had felt too real, and many people complained about the dark and gruesome nature of the game. Thousands of comments were already posted, and there seemed to be various opinions. Some of the posters quickly refuted the people who said that the game was too gruesome, arguing that it was a game filled with supernatural monsters, and it should have been expected that the game would be gory. While it seemed some said that because of the realism and hardcore nature of the game, it could create psychological trauma. The most notable was the blue post that represented the admin's opinions.

Although Nick chuckled along with them, he realized some of the critical aspects and pointed them out. "So, in essence, fear plays a big part in how the game works. Not only, that unless it was some special event, but you could also even faint?"

The world of Althera (Al-ther- ra) is a VRMMORPG that combined the legends and myths around the world and made them come true. From werewolves, vampires, to angels, and demons. Players could become all types of supernatural beings that could rise to the top of the world.

POSITIVE REVIEW :

Hands down the best MMO story I've ever read. What makes The King's Avatar stand out are:

1) the level of realism - this isn't a vague fantasy genre meshed into the form of an MMO, these are real people playing a game, and the blend of RL and game life, the player interactions, World Chat, etc. really bring out the flavor of watching an MMO.

2) The insane level of detail - this author is amazing. No other story has this much focus on the reality of pro gaming, which includes physical skill, game knowledge, the ability to strategize and use that knowledge to their fullest advantage... Either the author himself used to be a pro gamer or he has top tier researching skills, but as a casual MMO player I recognize that even imagining these situations goes way above my grade. Recognizing an actual skill gap between myself and the MC - and not just "the MC picked up some magic stuff and became amazing through vaguely described training" - stirs up a ton of admiration not only for the characters but for the author as well.

3) The amazing, lively characters. All of them have enormous personalities. There are a ton of side characters that are hilarious or awesome and that I want to see more of because I know they'll be fun to read about. This is the opposite of most LNs who have disposable, flat, just-there-to-be-puppet side characters, or LNs who have side characters with tons of potential but are never developed (CD, I love ya but you toss out amazing side characters like tissues...) My favorite part of having all these great characters is the banter and the trash talk, especially in the later chapters when the big fish come out. Even the annoying characters have their charm...

4) Finally, it has to be said that the MC himself is pretty great. He's definitely more mature and interesting than most protagonists I've read about. It's a bit hard to describe him, but the way he deals with Sleeping Moon in the early chapters is one of the greatest marks of his personality. If the character were more immature he'd be focused on getting revenge and "saving face"; if the character were colder he'd just ignore everything and go solo lone wolf. But Ye Xiu? He's self-assured, but not arrogant - forgiving because he's there's no point in getting riled - but canny enough to calmly wring out advantages for himself even in seemingly bad situations. The main point is that things don't just fall in Ye Xiu's lap, he works for it and makes things happen the way he wants through experience, knowledge, or just plain old haggling. Of course, the universe doesn't revolve around his decisions, so it's always fun to read about how he has to tunnel his way through the ever-growing mess he's accidentally created for himself.
If you enjoy the concept of MMOs, gaming, and/or esports, I definitely recommend this!

CRITICAL REVIEW :

The main thing that made me stop reading this is the lack of knowledge of the author in terms of gaming, which resulted in unrealistic and extremely shallow game mechanics and/or events.
For 3 slightly more detailed reason why:
First off, this was supposed to be a depiction of the highest of level of gameplay from a pro-gamer, but I didn't see any semblance of it. Most stuff shown here were mainly unrealistic, and then common to slightly uncommon strategies, techniques, and game-mechanics. The author's portrayal of the MC feels like it's coming from a "fan" point of view, not from an actual high level narration/analyst/player. For instance, let's say you ask a boxing fan and a boxing analyst about a certain boxer about what makes him good. Most fans will answer you with "he's so good because he's fast, he's super strong, and muscular", because of the lack in technical knowledge, in comparison to the analyst who will show you stats, mathmatical stueff, physiological stuff, psychological stuff, and so on. This is what it is like to me when I read this novel, it feels like it was written by a "fan-knowledge" level person, which leads me to my next point, the authors lack of knowledge.
The author doesn't seem to know how things work, and generally how games work. One thing I can think on the top of my head is the APM. The MC has unrealistically high APM (3 digits, can't remember exactly), which is only obtainable from either hacking the game, or extremely unrealistic super human level of animation canceling (provided that the game can even perform such mechanics, because you know the author didn't mention it). I don't even know why the author mentioned APM in a first / third person almost shooter type of game in the first place. These sort of stuff breaks the immersion for me. I always notice these small flaws, which makes me skip chapters just to check if the author address them, but ultimately left disappointed because of the lack of explanation, not even a mention about these certain mechanics.
Lastly, too much grinding. People keep saying that MMORPGs are supposed to be grindy, but the thing is, we are not playing a game, we are reading a novel. Sure, you can grind all you want in a game, and it can give you satisfaction once you achieve desired level, or gained your desired item. But when reading a novel, all the stuff about grinding gives no satisfaction at all. All the million chapters spent on grinding could have been spent on world building, character development, plot twists, and so on. But no, half or a little bit more than half of the novel used for grinding. You must be really bored if you really enjoy reading all of them.

well since ive got time to think about my situation. vr games have started 50 years ago, year 2120. the only difference is the realism level. it started at 30% until today's game with 95% realism.


over the decades more and more are becoming addicted to playing vr games. at this time 70% of the worlds population are playing vr games. thats why all corporations and even governments have invested in a vr game.


with all the attention to vr games over the years, many ordinary people like me have tried their luck in making money through new vr games. if not for the new world law* that made it impossible for a person without a diploma to sell anything in-game then i would have tried to become a pro-gamer years ago.

*world law - it started in the year 2143 when vr games have become a problem. kids dropped out of school and played games all day, making a living by selling some items. all governments have agreed to pass several laws that will be applicable to every country and kingdom.


i walked outside the wolves hunting area and just kept on walking without any particular direction on mind. the game is beautiful. with a 95% realism it feels like being transmigrated to another world. i never had the chance to appreciate its beauty before.


i walked for days ocassionally stopping to enjoy the view. sometimes i would simply sleep anywhere and no one would bother me. by the time i heard the system reminder of a forced logout for overstaying in the game, several days has passed. upon checking the time, theres still an hour before i finished the basic newbie survival challenge.


upon leaving the capsule, i ate instant noodles, took care of personal things and then slept for a couple of hours. when i woke up i checked the forums about the random pet reward. what i read surprised me.


the random pet reward upon not dying for ten days upon entering the game is garbage. it only gives slimes and tiny skeleton soldier. it looks like a 3 feet tall skeleton with a dagger. the bad part of it is that the experience gain of these pets are really low. plus they can only gain experience if they made the killing blow. the only good thing is that these pets sell for ten gold coins in any npc merchant.


almost everyone, except those weird people and those who likes slimes and skeletons, sold their pets. another reason they sold their pets is due to the fact that you can only have one pet in-game.


i logged in with the intension of selling the pet as soon as i got the reward. i totally forgot that im currently in a high level area several days from the nearest newbie village.

battle alchemist assistant slime - slime that can absorb effects and grant it unto the owner or an item.


this is a lucky pet. i explored its capabilities and its wonderful. when i pour health potion on my pet slime it becomes able to heal instead of corrode using its acid. i tried placing an arrow in my slime after it absorbed a healing potion and it gave my arrow a healing effect.


what i liked the most about this slime is its potential to increase my strength. i allowed it to absorb a ring that grants a +1 to speed. then i ordered it to transfer the "+1 speed" to me. and my stat permanently increased by 1.



as long as i obtain many stat enhancing item then ill become invincible. of course its useless since i cant fight monsters for a few years while the penalty is active.

peter was a beta player in the newest virtual reality game. his plan is to take advantage of a few bugs he failed to report. that way he will gain lots and lots of money. what he didnt know is that each beta tester has a dedicated a.i. that is reviewing their every action. the a.i. has long since reported the bugs and the main a.i. has already fixed them before launching the game.

Firstly, the Legendary Deep Dive system console Arcadia, with it's nearly 90% of Realism. Implementing Sound, Touch, Smell, Taste, and Sight with an accuracy of 90%.
And a supplement chamber that is out of the world, due to it's efficiency and speed.

Secondly, a godlike substance known as Spiravita. Which gradually enchances the capabilities of the mortal body the more you use it. The substance is split into 5 tiers namely from highest to lowest S, A, B, C, and D. While the failure products are E. Although a failure, E rank supplements are still good for the body, as it enhances the stomach's metabolism. Although there can be a few mild side effects such as dizzyness and nausea. Thirdly, [Realms] the Heaven-sent game for all of humanity, after all the stress which the Plague has brought, the public needed an entertainment in which they can truely let loose of themselves. but where can they do this in such a Lawful world? This is where the game [Realms] comes in. With customizable everything and the hundreds of class combinations that can truely spice up the gameplay, It truely is the long lost Godly game searched by many of the Peak level Gamers out there.
