Sabrina Viscount Dianna Valentine, the eldest princess, and next-in-line to inherit the throne. But she was falsely slandered as a heretic and exiled from the kingdom by her stepmother for the throne.

    Now it’s been more than 10 years since, and all of a sudden she received an invitation to the royal prom held at the mansion of Vascava city. This was a grand event and many nobles and princes and princesses from far away countries were also invited to this royal prom. With the invitation along with a letter, the king himself stated that Sabrina’s presence was a must, as her (step)mother longed to see her after such a long time. 


Which is complete bullshit and another of her scheme to assassinate Sabrina and cut her off the competition. Her stepmother just wanted to secure the throne for her own son.

Sabrina was left with no choice but to accept the invitation, even after she was anticipating her stepmother’s scheme.

She marched to the royal prom with her head held high along with her dance partner. Who also happened to be an immortal Vampire and her bodyguard.

The Kindom of Marau has long been standind at the very brink balancing out all things magical. At the very heart is Princess Janeĺle Dé Carťier Senikau Marau next heir to the throne.

"The walls of the fort have fallen. You're our only hope. Leave Princess Giritnaya. Only if you live will we be able to die in peace." The General yelled for her to leave but she didn't budge an inch.


"'Die if needed but never turn your back to people in need.' is what my mother told me as she died. I won't leave. Come what may and I'll fight." The determined look in her eyes melted the General's heart as he thought, "Sure enough, you're Queen Chhaya's daughter, you'll protect this kingdom with your life. Just as your mother did 15 years ago." 


"Okay, let's fight with all our might then." Surrendering to the Princess's determination, the General said with a mixed feeling of hope and despair. 


"Charge!!" With a thunderous sound the doors of the Great Hall opened and Princess Giritnaya's army was surrounded before they could step out to put up a fight. They were in the courtroom with big walls and pillars decorated with beautiful icy blue coloured curtains and portraits of their ancestors on the sides of the walls while a portrait of Princess Giritnaya and Queen Chhaya in the middle right behind the throne because the Princess always believed that the Queen is the one that owns the throne while the Princess is only taking care of it in her absence. 


"Protect the Princess." The General commanded his subordinates of the army as he watched themselves being outnumbered. Glaring at the silent court ministers, the General looked hurt but didn't say anything.   


"Arya, bring the Princess away as soon as I signal. I'll hold them here to buy you some time. You have been by my side for years now, so you are the only person I can trust at this moment when I see these courtiers and ministers who used to curry favors with the Princess turning their backs to her and the Queen. Arya, you must protect her with your life." The General spoke whisperingly to one of his subordinates while gripping his spear tighter than ever. 


"I shall dedicate my life to the safety of Princess Giritnaya from this moment onwards and shall I ever even think of betraying her, I shall die the most painful death in the world." Arya determined.


Relieved by his words, the General commanded his army to surround the Princess and prepare to fight. As the army conflicting to the Princess's reached in further, her army closed in a circle surrounding her and the throne, leaving all the ministers outside of the closed circle.


"You're alone. This majestic throne of the Avanti Kingdom belongs to me and no one else. You can't protect this Kingdom anymore. Give up, Princess and be my concubine. Your smooth soft face, beautiful eyes and thin lips, I want to touch them, lick them. Your prideful girlish figure and slender waist, I want to leave my marks on all over them. I have desired your entire being to be mine. Keeping you in my palace and watching you, defiling you and caressing you every day, is what I want to do. So if you want me to let your Avanti Kingdom live, be my concubine. Maybe I'll spare lives of these low lives too." 

Laughing loudly, a man wearing an armor which could not hide his bulky yet brawny and robust well trained figure from the sides where the armor was a little open, came in licking his lips and fixated his eyes on the Princess standing by the throne among her army men. His eyes gazed in amusement as if seeing through the light blue gown of the Princess. As if there was no fabric binding his vision and he could see her bare body, the man continued to lick his lips. As the man made his way in cutting through the surrounding army, all the Ministers of the Princess gave him way. 


Lord Shonit's arrogant heavy voice and murderous aura was enough make everyone shake to their wits. But a girl 18 was standing there looking at him as if he was some clown. Not even bothered by the creature-like behavior of the man, the girl stood as firm as ever and returned his gaze with an equally murderous aura in her eyes.


As the man reached the foot of her army and face the frontline men of Avanti Kingdom, he howled again, "All these Ministers and courtiers of yours, have long pledged their loyalty to me, Lord Shonit, the King of Mayukh Kingdom. Stop dragging your time and accept your fate the earlier to avoid unnecessary bloodshed, Princess Giritnaya." 


"Hah! I'll surrender to you? You will rule this Avanti Kingdom? What a joke. If you have the guts, try taking one more step and you'll be sorry for the rest of your short life." The Princess was not going to give in no matter if she faced her death. She was determined as she bent near the throne and opened a secret chamber on the right side of the throne and brought out a weapon. She did it so stealthily that even under the watch of hundreds of pairs of eyes, she was able to retrieve the weapon without anyone noticing it.


Shifting her gaze to the rest of the people present with a fierce expression as if spitting fire with her amber shaped hazel eyes, her thin lips curved in an amusing sarcastic smile.


"Flames of the rime. Heed my call. Feel my pain with the power of these flames. Be the destroyer, be the ripper. Destroy them all." Enchanting the spell, holding her round headed spiky mace with both her hands, the weapon that she retrieved from the throne not long ago, she looked past fiercely at her betrayer subordinates. 


"Hahahaha!", clapping cheekily Lord Shonit laughed louder than before like the Devil himself but did not take another step further as a preventive measure to Princess Giritnaya's warning. "I thought it was some big deal when you roared Princess, but looks like it was just a dancing lamp before its extinguishment."


Soon as the words left his mouth, there was an uproar outside the Great Hall in the open space of the palace. The men stationed outside by the King of Mayukh Kingdom were shrieking and yelping in pain and were running around to save their lives. They no longer wanted the gold and gems and women as promised by their King Shonit before he brought the whole army on this expedition, but only cared for their own lives at the moment as they continued to look for a way out.


An animal as big as dragon with a mouth like a tiger, its big wings that could cover the Great Hall, the body made of something stronger than iron and the legs contrasting its built but about the height of two people one on another, such an animal out of the Great Hall was roaring spitting icy darts and was killing everyone in sight. Its Brown hawk-like eyes weren't sparring anyone and killing without mercy. 


As the men were running in panic, some of them rushed inside the Great Hall and called out their King telling him the eye witnessing scene outside. Soon as Lord Shonit heard it, he gave a laugh as if he heard something amusing.  


"Hah! So you finally called out your ultimate weapon. Today, I'll take you and I'll take that animal of yours and all of your army will only be watching from the sides. Hahahah." Lord Shonit said again.
He looked at his subordinates and commanded, "I want this Princess, alive." 


Not wasting another second, the Princess roared akin to a tigress, "Flames!" 


Soon as she yelled, except for the stage of the throne, everywhere else in the Great Hall, there was fire. The army of the Princess was unscathed but the rest of the people were yelping in pain, screaming as they watched themselves burning and running in all directions to save themselves from the wrath of this Demoness Princess.


It was a secret mechanism that the King of Avanti Kingdom, Princess Giritnaya's father, Lord Sanjith had installed before his death. The only person who knew about it was the Queen. But what they didn't know was that their little Princess had heard their conversation when the King was telling about the mechanism to his wife and she had remembered it ever since. 


Everyone standing there, ran outside the Great Hall like ants running when it pours. Lord Shonit was the first to escape the Great Hall when the fire broke but also the first among the people present inside, to send himself at the death's doorstep. Inside the Great Hall, all those who couldn't keep up were handed over to the flames while the ones who headed out, didn't have it easy either with the giant monstrous animal spitting ice darts at them and wiping them away like waving away flock of birds with its huge wings. 


The creature darted a few ice darts that Lord Shonit dodged and ran in all directions and so did the rest of the people. But he wasn't someone to accept defeat easily and thus whistled to send signal his subordinates. And also to call his ride, his Pegasus, a horse with wings. 


Though Pegasus wasn't as huge as the creature outside the Great Hall nor had as big wings as that of the other, but he ran quickly and in cases otherwise, was considered one of the top five summoning beasts.


At Lord Shonit's whistle, the Pegasus flown and reached his master in no time and took him away. On the other side, the rest of the people, the army of Mayukh Kingdom as well as the Ministers and courtiers, the betrayers of Avanti Kingdom, all ran as they tried to dodge the death storming down from the sky.


In the split second after the whistle when everyone near the throne, the army of Avanti Kingdom still standing guard surrounding their Princess, when everyone was focused on the outside, a sudden attack was launched against the Princess. It was one of her own army man, the one who was standing in the inner most circle of the ones around the throne. With a swift motion without any warning or sound he turned around to face the Princess and stabbed her abdomen. She yelped in pain and shrieked. The General quickly moved him away but was surrounded by the defectors within the army. 

"Treacherous!" He yelled as he flung his spear and took down a few traitors. 


"This is the place you'll be buried Princess Giritnaya. You only have yourself to blame to be too innocent and cunning at the same time. You're the strongest woman I have ever met. You stood strong in the direst needs and without thinking twice gave your all to serve your people but you never once thought about me. I'm your fiancée for God sake, can't you give me some power or authority? This General Shail, he has more authorities than I do. He orders me around but you never care. Today, I'm going to kill every last person who supports you along with you and General Shail and I'll be the one ruling this world. I'll be the King of Avanti Kingdom." The attacker spoke as he tried to inch nearer but was stopped by one of his subordinates who protected the Princess with his body.


An ocean of tears over-flooded her eyes as his trenchant words wounded the deepest core of her heart, dazed with the swift change in his behaviour, the Princess felt numb all over as if someone had drained all her blood. Her abdomen wasn't as hurt as her heart. She fell on her knees and continued to be in daze. 


Closing in near the Princess with only a handful of deputy generals and soldiers still serving their motherland, the General signalled his subordinate Arya to take away the Princess. The General silently bid farewell to Princess Giritnaya as his eyes fogged with tears. But then he got up and fought removing the traitors and sending them to fire still burning in the Great Hall. Arya held the Princess in his arms and through a secret tunnel led her out. General Shail stood guarding the secret door not allowing anyone else to follow the other two. But another stab came his way from his back, splitting his insides and scattering all the blood and materials out in the open. The blurry eyes of the Princess watched it all until the secret door closed and Arya carried her out.


The Great Hall was full of screams and shrieks and the outside was no better where the mighty divine beast, that huge animal was sending the attackers to hell's door. 

"Your Majesty, my King, I'm now handing over the Princess to your blessings. Though I've sent her out, I'm not too sure of what she's going to face in the outside world. Your Highness, my Queen, watch over her and keep her safe. I'm now meeting my old friend, my death." The General silently prayed and took his last breath.


The army of the rebels won and took lives of all those who were on Princess's side. They tried opening the secret door by which the General had sent the Princess, and it opened after a lot of failed tries but the Princess had already escaped. All the rebels went in the secret door including her fiancée, as the door closed, they breath heavily because they had inhaled a lot of smoke while standing guard and then fighting the Princess's army. But they dared not go outside of Great Hall in presence of the monster.  


By the twilight, the noise from the outside of the Great hall had died down completely. The rebels army did not go through the tunnel the secret door led to afraid that they would meet the monster, but sat in the tunnel itself to kill time. So by the time they came out everything in the Great Hall had turned into ashes and the outside was filled with pool of blood and violence clearly evident. The sight of it was so horrific that a few of the remaining rebels vomited then and there.

Blood oozing out of the bodies, chopped heads, hands and legs with all the muscles and fat and intestines out in the air. Gore everywhere, increasing with the unceasing war. Hundreds of thousands of warriors screaming and yelping in pain, everyone around fighting.
She dreams of it every night leading to a sleepless time.

Lu Wei looked at the Crown Princess and held her gaze. A group of servants walked outside the hall and saw the scene.
As most of them were aware that the Crown Princess and Emperor Lu Wei was about to be engaged, they thought that the Emperor of Qian Rong and the Crown Princess were flirting with each other by playing a round of the staring game.
"I never wanted this throne anyway. If it were not for my brother, I would never return to Qian Rong to take this position. You know very well why I went against my brother and got myself in this position," Lu Wei said. His lips tilted up into a playful smile. "In a way, you should take responsibilities of me."
Princess Lingchen stared at the man before her with aghast. What responsibilities? He made it sound like she had done something wrong against him.
The Princess's gaze turned darker as seconds passed by. "I never asked for your help. You were the one who wanted to go against your brother."
Lu Wei smirked when he saw that the Princess was getting angry. He took a deep breath and exhaled loudly. "Back then, I thought that I could pull my brother from the throne and have his young son to take his place and rule Qian Rong. Who knows the mother would be too stupid and got her son killed. I have no other choice but to take over."
The room was silent as Lu Wei drank his tea to moisten his throat. Then, he sat quietly as he stared at the Crown Princess a while longer. "Do you know what the ministers wanted me to do after I ascended the throne?" He saw the Princess shook her head and continued, "They wanted me to choose an Empress and marry their daughters and granddaughters as my concubines."
"And? What's wrong with that?"
Princess Lingchen saw nothing wrong with his words. After all, marrying a few concubines was considered as his duty as the Emperor. It was a different case for her. When she ascended the throne, Princess Lingchen will not have to marry anyone else once she had an heir.
"I am not going to live the way my father lives. Having concubines fighting for his affection and causing them to always live in fear for they might do anything that can cause them to lose their life," Lu Wei said. His eyes darkened as he thought of the way his mother had lived before she passed away.
"So, you wanted to marry me because you did not want to be a ruler and marrying a few concubines?" The Crown Princess felt the corner of her mouth twitched.
Lu Wei quickly adjusted his mood and spoke lightly, "I just did not want to deal with politics. I am too lazy to deal with such matters."
"Even so, giving away Qian Rong…" she did not finish what she was going to say.
"This is not giving away a country," Lu Wei said and smiled. "This is what we called joining two countries."
"Have you think things through? The people of Qian Rong will not agree to this."
"Even if they did not agree, they have no other choice. I don't want the throne, and the ministers could not come out with a favorable solution to this situation."
Princess Lingchen drummed her fingers on her side. If Lu Wei was not the Emperor of Qian Rong, she might consider marrying him. However, with his position as the Emperor, the Princess finds it hard to accept it.
"I understand their concern. They were worried that Da Cheng would be partial. That was why I had drafted an agreement with your father to protect everyone's interest," Lu Wei said and shrugged. "Once a child of both Qian Rong and Da Cheng was born and chosen as the heir, I don't believe that this child will be partial to any part of the country."
The Princess' face turned white as she heard Lu Wei's words. The word 'child' repeated in her head several times, and gradually, her pale face turned redder. Princess Lingchen lowered her gaze and tapped her fingers on the chair as she was getting anxious.
"I will let you read this agreement before the wedding takes place," Lu Wei continued. "Once we were engaged, we will have a year to prepare for the two countries before our marriage. If you have anything you would like to add in this agreement, you can tell me."
Princess Lingchen was always taught of her duty as the next heir of the throne. She knew that someday, she will have to be married and will have to bear a child. But the thought of having a child with Lu Wei made her feel uncomfortable.
Lu Wei spoke after a long silence between them. "Crown Princess Lingchen, you need to marry someone to protect your position, and I can help you with that. I did not want to be responsible over a country, and right now, only you can help me. We might not be in love as your parents are, but we are friends. The two of us were comfortable with each other. Why not give this marriage a chance? I promise, I will be loyal to you."
The Crown Princess was dumbfounded as she met Lu Wei's eyes. Her heart gradually beat faster as seconds ticked by, and she found that it was getting difficult for her to breath.
Soon, a servant walked in and announced that Chief Ye is heading to the hall. The Princess snapped out of her trance and stood up to greet the old lady.
"Chief Ye," Princess Lingchen greeted. She was always polite towards the chief as she was indebted to her for saving her life. "It has been a long time. Are you well?"
"I'm fine," Chief Ye nodded as she saw the Crown Princess. She held the Princess' hands and said, "Why are you still addressing me as Chief Ye. You are about to be engaged to my grandson. Shouldn't you start calling me 'grandmother'?"
Princess Lingchen lowered her gaze and laughed. However, Chief Ye did not look like she was going to let the matter go. She glanced at Lu Wei and noticed that the man did not look like he was going to help her. Slowly, the Princess looked at Chief Ye and smiled timidly. "Grandmother."

“Checking to see if you had a fever,” she said with a sigh. “But you seem healthy.”

“I’m not sick.”

“I know.”

“I’m not crazy.” Yang Yun closed his eyes when she looked at him in doubt. He had been searching for her for years. And right now, the love of his life was standing right in front of him. But she doesn’t seem to remember him. It was as if her memories of the past, the memories of him have all forgotten. 

She lifted her hand, and her fingers rested on his cheek. “I like you, Yang Yun.” She drew her hand and frowned. “But I don’t understand why you keep telling me about these stories. Why are you forcing me to accept this?” She closed her eyes briefly. “Sometimes, I wonder if you really like me, or am I just a substitute to someone you knew in your past.”

Dravid Throne Room----
In the dim light of the moon, a person walked towards the throne of the queen and sat in it. He then patted his one finger on it. One touch, and the throne caught fire. The man then smirked and walked out of the room. 

A palace maid saw the fire and called for the soldiers to extinguish it. The royal family members too heard it. They ran out of panic and reach near the throne. 

"How do the throne caught fire ?", asked Silamban.

" I don't know about that, your majesty. But yes, I saw someone going out of the throne room", said the maid.

"Seems like the five obstacles have already got their way up to me. I have to be cautious", Devsena said to herself.

In the marketplace----
The men and women were doing their jobs. When some saw Jaldev, whisperings started.

" Who is this man ? He didn't seems to be from here".

"He is so fair skinned. This means he is definitely not from here".

"Seems like I can't cover my identify just by wearing the dresses of the Dravid. I have to take the help of a Dravid. There are chances of me getting caught if I kept on moving like this", said Jaldev to himself.

He saw two soldiers looking angrily towards him. He was frightened to death. The Dravid soldiers came towards him but walked past him to catch a person who was holding a watermelon.

Dravid Practice Hall----
Devsena was practicing with Mekhla's mother. Both were equally powerful and skillful but Mekhla's mother missed by a chance. Devsena raised her sword with stopped it in the air only.

" In a fight, no matter who is in front of you, that person is your opponent. Mercy shouldn't be shown upon an opponent. In a fight, there is no room for sensibilities. Emotions during a fight makes your attack light and you defeat for sure", said Mekhla's mother.

"But how can being defeated by your mother can be counted as a defeat ?", asked Devsena.

"Recognize me Devsena. I am your enemy at this moment. Remember Devsena, the sword edge do not recognize relations".

At this moment some soldiers came with the man they caught in the market place.

" Hail the great queen "!

" Who is this man ? ", asked Mekhla's mother.

" We caught her in the marketplace, your majesty. He was running away from us. We got the map of the palace from him. We doubt that he is the one who yesterday sneaked into the palate and fired the throne".

Mekhla's mother got furious and cut his chest. 

"Take him away and behead him. There is no place for mercy in royalty. The punishment for any mistake is death".

"But killing someone.... like this.... without prove...."

"If you want to sit in the throne, you have to throw your emotions away Devsena. For a queen, her throne is only his everything. You will be called the queen, when you will become like me".

Dravid Marketplace----
Slave Shop----
A person with a bulk belly came in front of the store. The owner said, "Manar Sir, you seems to have loose much weight. Seems like you have gone too far in search of slaves. I am selling so many slaves, why don't you buy one from me"?

" No no no, all these slaves are useless. I know that it's not easy to endure my wife's wrath but I am the only one who gets the scolding no. She says what kind of husband am I. Can't even find a good slave".

"You have got your support Jaldev. One who even afraid of his wife, you don't have to be afraid of him", murmured Jaldev.

That man moved to a cart to buy dress for his wife. He has tied the slave he brought with the wheel of the cart. Jaldev quietly cut the rope from that man's feet and made him free. He then tied a donkey to that rope.

" Thank God that I got such a beautiful dress in a cheap price. Why have you became so heavy, slave ?", asked Manar.

He turned and was almost dead to see a donkey. He started imagining.

His wife was standing in the middle of the marketplace and he was sitting upon the donkey. " Sale! Sale! Sale! Take this beautiful and hardworking donkey with my husband free".

"Master! Please give me a work master. Please. I can do the work of ten men all at once. It's okay even if you give me very little wage", this voice snapped him out to reality. Jaldev seem to be very much pitiful to his eyes.

" Turn around! Hmmm.... You are okay", said Manar.

"What"!

" Means you look very powerful".

"I can do the work of ten persons all at once".

" Can you also do the household chores "?

" Yeah! I can do it".

"But remember, you will get.... rice to eat and... a place to sleep at night. Nothing else".

" Accepted Master. I just need a roof to cover my head and two hour bread to kill my hunger".

At this moment, two soldiers came and looking towards Jaldev said,"Who are you ? Give your identity. You didn't seems to be from here".

"Who said that he is from here. He is my slave. I have brought him from a far away land. His name is Shivgam. He was living in the forest where the trees are so high that the sun rays didn't get a way to touch the land. That is why, see, he is so fair skin unlike us. Now give us permission or else you will get a call from the Royal Palace. I am Manar, the chief gardener of the Royal Palace", said Manar.

"Complaisance Master! Complaisance. You gave this servant a new name, Shivgam", said Jaldev.

" Didn't you had any name before"?

"No master. I never had such a master like you. You are great master. Master, are you really the Royal Gardener"?

" Absolutely "!

" So have you ever met the princess "?

" Both of them".

"Master, I too want to meet the princess one day. Will you introduce me"?

Just as Manar was going to reply, the sound of the drum beat grabbed his attention. A man came to the centre of the marketplace and said," Attention! Attention! Attention! Today is the last day of the competition of choosing our princess Devsena's husband. One who will be able to defeat her will be married to her but the one who will not be able to defeat her will be beheaded".

"Did you listen that ? Now you can also see the princess but from a distance. If you will go near too much you can also be beheaded", said Manar. He left saying this.

" Don't worry! I will not only see her but will also kill her with this excuse ".

Royal Palace----
Among the audience, Jaldev was standing with Manar.

" Master, how do these princesses looks like"?

"There is no words to describe the princess".

" Is she very long in height "?

" Her height.... Not much".

"I have listened that she have defeated many big warriors".

" There is no one who can be compared to our princess".

"About the height, does she looks like a dwarf"?

" Dwarf "?

" Or does she looks like me"?

Manar slapped Jaldev on the cheek and said, "Don't you dare compare her to you. The people here will cut that tongue of yours if you do so". 

The drums started to beat again. Manar pinched Jaldev and said," Look our princess is coming ". He pointed towards a direction.

The people, on the sight of Devsena shouted, " Hail the princess Devsena! Hail the princess Devsena! ".

Devsena came, bowed to Mekhla's mother who was sitting in the throne and took her seat besides Mekhla.

Shock was written all over Jaldev's face. "That day her idol took my heart away. How can the one who I have desperately wanted to meet, whose statue only took my heart away can be the person whom I am here to kill ?", murmured Jaldev.

At this moment Purohit Indramitra's words echoed in his mind. " All the hopes of Dravids, their present and future are all on their to be queen Devsena. That is why you have to kill her at any cost".

Set in ancient India, during the decline period of Indus Valley Civilization and the starting of the period of Vedas, this epic tale follows the saga of the war between the Aryans and Dravidians.

The envoy from Sertulia Kingdom just arrive in Orlandria. The nervousness and the tension can be sense within the throne room. My eight brothers to the left of the throne, my sisters and I to the right. A tall stick like man with a scroll his thin bony hands stands before Royal Father and begin reading out an invitation.

Man "May the Great King live a thousand years." He bow down with elegance and respect.

King Xing "No need for formalities."
Royal Father waves his sleeves gently to indicate to the messenger to continue with his announcement.

Man "The Emperor Wang of Sertulia extends his invitation to any two Princesses of Orlandria of His Majesty King Xing's choosing. Emperor Wang would be highly grateful if His Majesty King Xing would accept this invitation on behalf of Crown Prince Longwei's marriage to one if not both Princesses."

As soon as the stick man have read out the request Royal Father's face frown slightly as he begin to think about the proposal. 

King Xing "This King will accept the invitation and as for the two Princesses to attend..." Royal Father glaze with a loving smile on his face, to his five daughters that are present in the throne room. Before grinning meaningfully "Third Rank Princess the Second Princess Xing Minyuan and..." Royal Father once again stops and look slightly conflicted.

Queen Wei Yi "Your Majesty? Is there someone else you have in mind other than Second Rank Princess, the First Princess Xing Ya Zhen?"

King Xing "Queen, this King feels very conflicted. However, I will decide after discussing this to LiLi. Come my child." Royal Father extends his hand to the me that is siliently observing the surrounding. With my eyes opened wide, I dumbfoundedly follow Royal Father as he leads us to the Lotus Garden.

---20 minutes later---

Limei "Royal Father, LiLi...doesn't know if that's possible. Royal Father knowns that LiLi is not as beautiful and talented as LiLi's other sisters. How will LiLi survive?" I sadly reply to Royal Father's request.

King Xing "LiLi. Father knows he's asking alot from my precious LiLi. You know that you are the most powerful person in this Kingdom, second only to this old man. However, once I past, my Spiritual Beasts will be yours. You're the only person Grandfather King and Father can trust to sit on the throne one day. Father beg of you to follow Father's request. Protect him. He is special and is destined to be a great ruler and unite our Kingdoms. He needs you by his side. You are destined to be his strength and alliance. You are destined to be Queen. Remember my child, Father will never let anything happen to Father's most favoured daughter. You are Father's pride, joy, happiness, sadness, pain and precious daughter. You are Father's love and heart. Anyone who doesn't know will suffer under Father's power. So what does my child say?" Royal Father reason with me while holding my head to his warm chest.

Limei "If Royal Father really insists, LiLi will do as Royal Father have requested. LiLi loves Royal Father too much to refuse." I bury my he deeper into his embrace. For a mere 16 years old girl going far from home sets a sequence of fear and suspicion in my heart. We walk back to the throne room where Royal Father seat himself back on the throne and myself to his left. 

King Xing "This King have decided. The envoy will carefully and safely deliver Third Rank Princess the Second Princess Minyuan Xing and...First Rank Princess the Fifth Princess Xing Limei to Sertulia. Let this King warn you and your soldiers, if one scratch comes to harm to my LiLi, this King will not hold back his anger." Royal Father threatens the poor man who is without a doubt trembling in fear before the almighty King Xing. I look at the poor man with pity, oblivious to the glares aiming at me.

With the invitation accepted we begin to make preparations for the weeks we will travel to Sertulia. It would take 2 weeks to arrive at Sertulia Palace. Second Sister left Orlandria immediately, travelling 3 months ahead of myself. I couldn't bear to leave Royal Father and Mother as they stand beside the carriage. 

Limei "Royal Father, please do not worry about LiLi. LiLi will be safe and LiLi hopes to come visit Royal Father and Mother soon." I sob as those words travel through my mouth.

King Xing "My precious girl. Father will miss you most. Stay safe and Father and Mother will wait for your return." Father King and Mother both hug me before I carefully step inside the carriage. I sit silently as the carriage begins to journey to Sertulia. I cannot describe the feelings welling up inside my heart. My personal maids Ya Ling and Shu Ting quietly comfort me. I do not wish to part but I have a mission to fulfil.

---2 weeks later---

I have just pass through the golden gates of Sertulia Palace. As soon as the carriage stops the palace maids whisk me to greet the Emperor Wang and his Empress. With Ya Ling and Shu Ting in tow. 

I bow deeply in front of His Majesty Emperor Wang and Her Majesty Empress Ai Wang. 

Limei "May the Emperor and Empress live a thousand years." 

Feeling fear once again in my heart. What if they didn't want me here? What if I'm not who they're looking for? What if they wanted my other sisters? My breathing becomes shorter and shorter at the thoughts. 
"Remember my child, Father will never let anything happen to my most favoured daughter. You are Father's pride, joy, happiness, sadness, pain and precious daughter. You are Father's love and heart."
My Father's words reminds me of my mission. 
It's alright LiLi. It's alright. I chant to myself before the soft voice of the Empress breaks my concentration.

Empress Ai Wang "My, my such a beautiful, beautiful flower indeed. Such vibrant blue eyes and graceful demeanor. Don't you agree, dear?" I lower my head lower in embarrassment as the Empress laugh heartedly.

Emperor Wang "You are indeed correct my Empress. The rumours do not live up to your beauty. That old Taiolong is very lucky to have such a lovely Princess." The Emperor reply, watching me with adoration. 

Empress Ai Wang "Should you not bestow her a title Your Majesty?" My body stiffen as the words left the Empress' mouth. To be bestow a title is not only a great honour, but also a guanrantee that one would be wed to someone in this Kingdom of high status.

Limei "Please pardon this Princess' rudeness, however may this Princess speak, Your Majesties?" I bashfully requests.

Emperor Wang "Of course my precious child. Speak your mind and please lift up your head." The Emperor requests as I smile.

Limei "This Princess does not think she deserves a title as of yet. This Princess comes with no achievements or accomplishments to be bestow a title. This Princess fear that others will not take it too well." I explain my fears and before I can register what have happen, the Emperor laughs.

Emperor Wang "Silly child. Your achievements have reached even my small Sertulia Kingdom. Must you be reminded of your deeds." They Emperor tease casually.

Limei "This Princess is already this embarrassed. Must His Majesty tease this Princess so?" I ask with a small blush.

Empress Ai Wang "Such a lovely smile and response. Great accomplishments and an excellent strategist in war. This Empress believes that would at least earn you a title." The Empress again laughs and my already red face burns brighter.

Emperor Wang "This Emperor also agrees with His Empress. Officials and people in this room, hear this Emperor's decree. By the power of this Emperor, I bestow First Rank Princess the Fifth Princess Limei Xing of Orlandria as First Rank Princess of Sertulia, newly name, Princess YuYu." My eyes widen, not only am I titled but also the First Rank Princess. The gasps from the Emperor's daughter is as loud as a thunder storm. None of His Majesty's daughters have been bestow the title of First Rank Princess.

Limei "This Princess thanks His Majesty and Her Majesty for the kind gestures. This Princess is also extremely grateful for the title. However, may this be kept a secret until this Princess is confident enough to live up to your praise?" I once again now deeply in gratitude. The Emperor, Empress and people in the thrones room nods with understanding.

Emperor Wang "It's only a matter of time even if this Emperor did not bestow you a title now, you would have been bestow a title soon. Go on. You must take your leave to the main garden for the Crown Prince is selecting his wives." I bow one last time before Ya Ling and Shu Ting leads me to the main garden.
Since I'm already bestowed a title I cannot escape the reality. I will be wed with a man in Sertulia. Whether I like it or not.

It was not Merlin's first time at the Princess Royal's palace. Although he could not be said to be familiar, he could find his way without any guidance. 
The two guards did not speak along the way but judging from their expressions, they held great respect for Merlin. 
Soon after they walked through layers of corridors, they arrived at the Princess Royal's palace. This Princess Royal had immense authority and swore to remain unmarried. Nevertheless, she was ambitious and yearned to get her hands on the throne. This was a risky undertaking because after all, no woman in the history of the Holy Dragon Empire had been crowned King. 
Nonetheless, it was not entirely impossible. Both the Princess Royal and the second prince were the two most influential competitors for the throne. Both factions were sufficiently powerful to make the King tread cautiously. 
The Holy Dragon Empire was unique in that they did not pamper their princes and princesses like pigs for slaughter. On the contrary, some of the princes and princesses learned the importance of power from an early age and slowly rose to prominence. Of all, the second prince and the Princess Royal were the two most prominent candidates. 
However, the King held the strongest force, Phantom, in his hands. Therefore, regardless of the second prince or the Princess Royal, both of them were actively trying to penetrate Phantom Intelligence Department. The candidate whom the Princess Royal chose was Merlin, whereas the second prince might have chosen one of the Team Leaders in Phantom. As to who specifically, it was kept a secret, even the Princess Royal's men were unable to find out. 
Such a power struggle was a fine balancing act for Merlin prior to this. If he was not careful, he could be embroiled in the struggle and crushed as a result. However, now that Merlin had become a full-shifter, especially a high-tier almighty beast full-shifter, he was ranked among the top contenders of the empire. 
Whether it was the Princess Royal or His Highness the second prince who ascended the throne, none of them would dare to offend Merlin. At that point, Merlin possessed the ability to tilt the balance of the empire's influence. 
Finally, they arrived at the Princess Royal's palace. The two guards stayed outside the door and said to Merlin respectfully, "Sir Leon, please go ahead. Her Highness the Princess is waiting for you inside." 
Merlin glanced at the palace and walked in without hesitation. The moment he entered, he detected a floral fragrance. This floral fragrance was very intriguing. Just a single whiff was able to make a person feel energetic and comfortable all over. 
"Count Leon, no, it should be Marquis Leon now!" 
The Princess Royal emerged from the palace in a low-cut long dress to greet him. Her body was oozing the same intriguing scent. Inside the vast palace, the Princess Royal was alone. 
Previously, Merlin was quite wary of this seductively charming princess, but now with his absolute strength, he was capable of tilting the balance of the entire empire, so he was no longer afraid. Instead, he boldly evaluated the Princess Royal with an appreciative gaze.
The Princess Royal had a beautiful face and a fair complexion. Due to the low cut of her long dress, her ample cleavage was revealed. Her entire being exuded an incredibly seductive aura. 
Even Merlin felt his primitive desires beginning to stir.
"Your Highness Princess Royal, why have you summoned me?"

I'm afraid our previous agreement is naught but a joke to you now. At your stage, you don't need any more Nourishment Ponds, right? However, I have something that you won't be able to pass up!" 
The Princess Royal had, at some point in time, taken off her long dress. She was only wearing a thin, translucent undershirt that faintly revealed her body underneath. 
"What is that?" 
For some reason, Merlin felt his body temperature rise. However, he was still able to suppress it. 
"The head of the Sacred Lion Beast! King Father is really too cautious, he's unwilling to allow you to approach the head of the Sacred Lion Beast because he's still distrustful of you. Hehe, you're still not on par with Farron, right? That is because, Farron is trusted by King Father, so he has been brought to see the Sacred Lion Beast more than once. That is the reason Farron's abilities grew leaps and bounds. On the other hand, I can bring you to the Sacred Lion Beast. I trust you completely, just like King Father trusted Farron back in the day. With Farron's help, King Father became king. You can be my Farron!" 
The Princess Royal came close to Merlin and gently caressed his muscular chest. Her warm breath tickled Merlin's ear. Although the Princess Royal was very tall, she could not compare to Merlin and still appeared very fragile beside him.

The Princess Royal smiled charmingly. Then she whispered in Merlin's ear, "What you have to do is very simple. Today, in my palace, you must make me yours! Then, I will place my complete trust in you and bring you to observe the head of the Sacred Lion Beast. If you help me ascend the throne, we will share the rights over the entire empire, just like King Father and Farron!" 
The Princess Royal's eyes were glinting with passionate desire. 
"Make you mine??" 
Merlin laughed, this was very simple. Sometimes, women were willing to act on personal impulses. 
"Why? You dare not?" 
The Princess Royal gave Merlin a challenging stare. 
"Haha, Princess Royal, I'm a Blood-eye Dragon, why wouldn't I dare?" 
Merlin no longer suppressed the heated passion in his heart. Immediately, he grabbed the Princess Royal into his arms like a little lamb and stripped off her clothes. The Princess Royal did not resist and instead showed more charm. 
At that moment, Merlin no longer hesitated. Inside the palace, moans and gasps began to resonate. Amidst the repeated motions, Merlin could feel that the will of the Blood-eye Dragon was also rejoicing. 
One hour, two hours, three hours passed…
It was not until the sky darkened and dusk approached that the moans in the palace began to subside and fell silent. The palace was in a complete mess. Despite the Princess Royal delicateness, she still inherited the royal family's bloodline and had a top-tier almighty beast bloodline. It was just that she had yet to achieve a full-shift. 
Even then, the Princess Royal who was in perfect physical shape was knocked-out several times throughout the hours-long 'battle'. Nonetheless, the pleasurable sensations were very memorable.

At this time, Merlin was fully awake. He sniffed the intriguing scent and commented calmly, "This fragrance, you've prepared specially for me? Even my Blood-eye Dragon was entranced by it." 
This fragrance was definitely a kind of aphrodisiac. Even Merlin's Blood-eye Dragon could not resist it. 
"Why? You don't want to?" 
Lisa indirectly admitted. Now that they had this relationship, Lisa trusted Merlin. 
After long consideration, Merlin said, "It's just a throne, I will help you. However, you must bring me to the Sacred Lion Beast's head. I'm not yet capable of opposing Farron!"

After speaking to the guards, the Princess Royal led Merlin away from her palace and headed deep inside the royal palace. 
Merlin's current perception was very widespread. If there was any movement around him, he would find out immediately. Merlin's expression appeared strangely grave. He finally came to a stop and stared sternly at the Princess Royal.

Breaking News

According to our sources from the palace, our dear crown princess seems to be missing, it was said that the princess was last seen at the pearl palace walking thru her garden on Tuesday. It was also said that all the palace maids were panicking, finding god knows what. 

We all know that our beautiful princess is the kind-hearted and talented one who sings and plays music just so she can have a private fund to help her accomplish her projects that we all know helped many children and people. So what could happen that our princess suddenly went missing? Up until now, we haven't received some confirmation from the palace.

Manor says to Terrius whom looked extremely worried and confusion.

Manor" It's was a masquerade? When did that happen?"

Palace Guard" You gave all the invitations to Lord Terrius without reading them didn't you? He often not reads them as well which is why I would normally have to bring a suit, force it on him and drag him here but those times he's room was in the west wing which made things easier."

Manor" Seriously what changed your mind?"

Terrius" I would be forced here either way and it's yours and Kaen's first time for an event like this. I didn't want to ruin it for you guy. "

Kaen" Se.. Seriously?"

Kaen looks down at the mask in his hands and blushes. How cute!

Manor" That's so sweet! "

Manor says as he he hooks his arm around Terrius's neck.

Manor" But then why did you freak out last minute?"

Terrius" Seeing Percy triggered my panic mode."

Palace Guard Percy" Guys, please save all drunken roars after the masquerade ended, when it's the guards turn to party! Alright?"

Queen" Ah! Shinigami, I almost didn't recognise you without your helmet. You're looking handsome this evening."

Kaen" You flatter me, you're highness. You're the most radiant."

The Queen smiles starts acting all coy with her gestures. 

Me" And this is Sir Manor from Diomondi I had requested his help for lifting the curse on the villagers. "

Manor" It is an honour to meet you."

Queen" How charming! Now, is there any progress with the cure?"

Terrius" We have started testing theories and are close to creating it. However it required an ingredient that only can be found deep in Leighdal."

Suddenly the side entrance to the throne room burst open and in comes the birthday girl. 

Sana" Mommy! You're going to be late!"

Queen" Oh! I'm sorry honey, I'll be right there."

Sana" Lord Terrius! You came!!"

She ran up to Terrius and pulls him to his feet before looking at the rest of us.

Sana" Master Kaen! Sir Hikaru and Sir Manor! It's awesome that you all were able to come! Come! I'll introduce you all to my friends! They were very eager to meet all of you after the devil quest you took!"

Queen" Sana come now, we have to make our entrance then you can do as you please."

The Queen calls out to her as she leaves the throne room through the side entrance. 

Sana" Oh! Right! See you at the ballroom!"

Sana says as she tenderly held Terrius hand in hers before running after her mother. The four of us suddenly found ourselves standing in an empty throne room.

Terrius" *sighs* Come on, let's go."

Kaen" Why do I have a feeling that, that happens a lot?"

Manor" Well at least she's adorable in that pink gown, really kinky with all that lace! I bet Terrius can really get down on that!"

Terrius" I will not!"

Manor" Then let me?"

They soon started bricking again as they headed to the ballroom. I turn to Kaen whom was staring at the throne. 

Me" Planing your rise to Royalty, Master?"

Kaen" What?! Of course not!..... It's just that I recognise this smell...."

Me" Smell?"

Kaen" That ocean beachy kind of smell, the Queen and the Princess. They are mermaids aren't they?"

Me" * Chuckles* Nothing gets by you doesn't it?"

I said with a smile as I close the distance between us.

Kaen" I wouldn't be at a Master Level if it did."

Kaen turns to face me but was surprised at how close I was and immediately back aways. 
I grabbed his arm to stop him. He tilts his head to the side with a confused look on his face. How cute! I took the mask from his hand and place it over his face before tieing it off.

Me" Well then Master Kaen, let's test that skill in the ballroom. "

I said while wearing my mask before smiling at him, Kaen immediately smiles back and noded at me. We then head over to the ballroom. Where everyone was already clapping while watching the Princess make her way down the Royal Platform towards the guest. I guess we must have missed the Queen's speech. I thought as I watched the Queen take a seat on her throne.

Kaen" Why is there another 3 thrones here on a stage?"

Me" Well originally this was the throne room but due to the death of the King in this room the Queen had it moved. This ballroom was originally sealed off from the rest of the Palace until the Queen was able to come to terms with his death a couple of years ago but she was still uncomfortable using this room so it was redecorated as the ballroom."

Kaen" Cool!"

* Slow music*

Me" Looks like the princess is having her first dance. "

I said as I watched the little princess dancing with Terrius. 

Kaen" Terrius looks uncomfortable."

Me" Well they are the only ones dancing and all eyes are on them. He must be worried that he'll make a mistake, it has been months since he last danced. "

Kaen" Even I would be freaking out like that. "

I gestured Kaen to follow me.

Kaen" Where we're going?"

Me" Somewhere you'll like."

I said with a smile before leading him to the back of the ballroom where all the food was placed. 

Kaen" You weren't kidding!"

Kaen stared happily at the food and started digging in but in a slow dignified way.

Me" Wow, I didn't know that you could actually eat without wolfing down like you normally do."

Kaen" Oi! Of course I can! Just because I can It doesn't mean that I want to."

Kaen says with a pout, I chuckled at his cute reaction and offered a piece of cake as a peace offering. Kaen accepted it immediately and happily digs in. 

The Princess came by after awhile and introduce us to her friends whom we met before when me and Kaen returned from our quest. The young ladies cling onto us begging us to share the tale of our quest. Kaen was more than happy to share the tale with minor adjustments and gave me many chances to add my own experience which I did but only to highlight Kaen's skills. Kaen danced with 4 of the ladies and I danced with 2.

Suddenly a beautiful vocalising sound echoes throughout the ballroom as the sounds of the lute, harp and flute slowly joined the voice. A lady stood on top the stairs of the grand entrance. Her dark blue hair tied up in a bun with beautiful hair ornaments, her blue eyes shinning through her mask as her fair slender body was wrapped in a beautiful ocean blue gown that parted in the front showing her legs that had bells around her ankles. Yes, there's no mistaking it, she is that mermaid from the other day. I turn to Kaen whom was watching her in a daze.

Mermaid" We notch our bows and wait for the morrow

for on the morn we head into shadow

She sang as she danced the slowly to the rhythm, this song was created to depict the tale of Saki the Demon Lord Slayer. Kaen stood there as each note pulled a string in his heart. So she is his fated wife but Misaki would only be giving the orders to take her as his bride 3 years from now.

I walked up to Kaen and whispered to him. 

Me" Beautiful isn't it?"

Kaen was shocked at my question, he must have been so adsorbed in the song and his future wife until he thought they were only two people in the room. He snaps out of his daze and answers me.

Kaen" Yes, it is. I heard this song many times and know it by heart but when she sings it... 
It's like a totally new song. "

Me" You know, I heard that the gardens in the north wing has a beautiful fountain and that it becomes magically during midnight when the moon is reflected on it. It's also a perfect place if you want to get on second base with her."

Kaen blushes like crazy, I then realised the mermaid finishes her song. I immediately pushed him towards her.

Me" What are you waiting for? Go grab your chance. "

Kaen gives me a shy look as he rubs his neck, 
I gestured him to hurry up. He then awkwardly walks up towards her, taking in a deep breath and calling out to her with a dazzling smile.

This is experimental writing where all characters has their own character development and own challenges but the main highlight would be V7.

This is a second volume to the series but it doesn't matter if you haven't read the first.
( Mainly because it would be revealed in the second volume and because I only wrote the story line planing of the first book and not actually written the book.)

Her bare feet were cold against the marble corridor as she walked toward her mother's private chamber. Since the time she was presented with her own wing, her mother allowed her to be the one to her up for tea and breakfast in the morning. Now that she was twenty-two, nothing had changed. Just as she did every morning, she knocked on her mother's door, the sound ominously echoing in the empty corridor. She listened carefully for any movement from her mother's chamber, but when she didn't hear anything—not the sound of the creaking bed, not the sound of the chair scratching against the floor as her mother pushed it out of her way, and not the sound of water rushing—her heart began drumming like bongs in her chest. Taking a deep breath, she turned the gilded lock, only to find the door secure from the inside.
But mother never locks the door... Rolling her eyes at the obvious carelessness of the new servant, she rapped at the door, yelling for her mother to wake up, that she couldn't get in. But after several times, panic settled in. This was very unlike her mother. 
    Running through the corridor and down the long, winding staircase, she mercilessly screamed everyone's names she could think of, but it wasn't until she got into the dining hall and bumped into the newest servant—Jorlyn, she thought was her name—that she finally got a response. 
    "The whole of Dramolux can hear you, Princess Aymeri! What's the matter?"
    "My mother is not responding to my knocks on the door."
    "Did you try using your key to open it?" 
    While the servant's response was matter-of-fact and in good faith, Princess Aymeri was still annoyed by it. What didn't she think of that? "Would you accompany me?" 
    "For such a small task? You are not seven, Princess. Holler if you need me. I will be listening."
    Though it wasn't the response Aymeri hoped for, the servant was right. She didn't need assistance in unlocking her mother's door. The Queen might just be in a deep sleep. Lately, Aymeri noticed, she was busy meeting with the Queens from the other Kingdoms, negotiating with them for their support against Empress Dimia. It wasn't too far out of the question for her mother to be exhausted. 
    She ran to her room, then back to her mother's. Just as she opened the door, the sun began to spill into the room like fresh orange juice into a cup. "Mother, it's time to get up." She pulled the curtains apart to allow the natural light in, but when her mother still didn't stir, Aymeri crossed the rom to gently shake her. "Come on, mother. I know you are exhausted, but there is much to do and tea to be served." 
    Making a sound of defeat, she pulled the covers off her mother's sleeping body and screamed in horror at what lied before her. Crisp dried blood covered her mother's nostrils and lips, as cakes of it pooled and streamed out of the corners of her mouth and down her chin. "Mother!" Aymeri screamed. "Oh, gods! Mother!"
    Tears streamed down her face as she tried to gather the strength to call for Jorlyn, but no words could form on her tongue and her hands were shaking uncontrollably. She feared if she moved, her legs would buckle beneath her and the floor would claim her life. 
    "Princess Aymeri, what is—Oh!" Then after a brief pause, "Guards!" before running out and leaving Aymeri on her own again.
    "Oh, mother!" Aymeri whispered, falling to her knees. What have you done? Tears flooded her eyes again as she held her mother's cold blue hand in hers and rested her head on their hands. She barely registered the steady hand on her heaving shoulders before she heard a gruff voice call her name. 
Ser Parzival had been part of the Royal Guard for as long as Princess Aymeri could remember. In fact, he even served under her grandmother, Queen Zara. Not only was he the head of the Royal Guard, he was also her one and only adviser; there was no one Queen Ismana trusted more with her life and as a result, so did Aymeri. After her grandparents died, it was Ser Parzival who filled—or at least tried to fill—the void they left behind.
    "I am sorry, my child."
    The words touched her heart and she knew she should respond but not one word left her lips. There was nothing anyone could say that could make her pain disappear. Standing up, Aymeri straightened her red gown and wiped at her eyes. Balling her hands into fists, she squared her shoulders. "Gather everyone in the throne room."
    "Princess?"
    She knew what he was going to say, that she should take some time, they could handle it all for her. What they'd never understand is that they couldn't do this for her. Her mother always made her promise to handle the good and the bad duties that came to her, on her own. That was the way it was going to be.
    Without looking at him, or anyone else who gathered in her mother's chambers—servants who probably never entered the chamber before—she walked out of her mother's room, pausing only briefly to say: "Now, please, Ser Parzival."
    "Yes, Princess."
Aymeri didn't hang around long enough to know how much longer they lingered in her mother's room or what they touched or didn't touch. Nothing mattered now. There was nothing left in her world, now. She was completely and utterly alone.
    Tears didn't stop falling as she changed into a more appropriate dress—long and black with white embroidery. Jorlyn, without having to be asked, brought a garland of white roses to braid into her hair, and did so without saying a word. Though she had been servant in their palace—really a handmaiden to her and her mother—for only a short time, barely a month, she knew so much about them. Even the things they didn't say aloud. 
    "Everyone has been gathered, Princess. Take your time."
Aymeri smiled briefly at the sincerity of her tone and followed her out as a way of assuring Jorlyn she was fine and could handle everything—even though her stomach was doing somersaults and her chest was tightening and her hands were shaking like a nervous tick. 
    She took it one shallow step at a time, using the bannister and the length of the winding staircase to steady herself. As if she knew exactly what Aymeri was doing, Jorlyn stayed only a step in front of her and in that moment, she was grateful her mother left her something special. 
    By the time she stepped into the throne room, the sun was its highest and spilled through the entire room; not a single torch was needed. Murmurs filled the entire room and through the buzzing in her head, she couldn't hear a single word—not that she wanted to. Only the gods knew what they were saying. The moment she stepped onto the carpet lining the way to her mother's throne, all murmurs seized and silenced weighed heavily in the room.
    Keeping her shoulders squared and head high, facing forward, she walked toward the intricately designed throne that Queen Zara had redesigned for her daughter, Queen Ismana. In all her life, in every palace she visited, never had she seen a throne quite like it. Today, that throne would see its first bare day and she could swear it knew it, for the throne did not look as inviting as it always did.
    Once at the throne, she closed her eyes and summoned her grandmother's courage before turning to the Palace's inhabitants—among them: servants, guards, knights, cooks, stable workers...Aymeri focused only on Jorlyn who placed herself strategically at the back, as if she knew Aymeri would focus on the doors and, ultimately, her escape. 
    "My humblest apologies for having Ser Parzival bring you all here under short notice. You are well aware that my mother and I do not believe in making announcements without proper notice. However, these are extenuating circumstances." Aymeri's chest heaved as she thought about the next words she had to say, as if saying them aloud made it all true and all the more real. "This morning, I found my mother, your Queen, dead in her chambers." Whispers and questions interrupted her speech and died as soon as they started as she held her hand up. It was something she had seen her mother do often. "I am aware of the questions you all have and the shock which plagues you. Like all of you I, too, share these emotions and I assure you Ser Parzival and the Royal Guards along with the Knights of Maudlin, will do all they can to get to the bottom of what happened." She paused for a moment. "Ser Parzival if you will please tell the people what you found?" 
Ser Parzival stepped out of the crows and onto the platform next to Aymeri. "After thorough examination of Queen Ismana's chambers, it appears as something has been plaguing her for quite some time; an illness that couldn't be cured."
Aymeri breathed deeply, her head swimming. An illness? Mother never said anything about feeling ill. All my time spent in her chambers, with her in the throne room, not a cough, nor sneeze, nor fever, nor chill. What then, could have plagued her?
    "—see to it that her final wishes be taken seriously and carried out as soon as possible." 
    Gathering herself as Ser Parzival looked over to her to finish, Aymeri took a steadying breath. "We will keep you all informed of the timing and procedures of Mother's funeral. No one is too leave this palace without my permission. Word of mother's death needn't get out before we have all of her things gathered." Aymeri took another breath. "You are all dismissed." 
    She waited as patiently as she could without falling over, until the room cleared out. "What are you not telling them?" she demanded from Ser Parzival. 
"Jorlyn, please close the doors on your way out. The Princess and I must have a private conversation." 
Jorlyn bowed dutifully to the both of them, closing the doors behind her as ordered, and Aymeri turned back to Ser Parzival. "What is it? You're frightening me." 
    "Well, Princess, there is no easy way to say this..."
    "Out with it, Parzival, please."
    "I think I better let this do the talking."
Ser Parzival slid a paper out of his breast pocket and handed it to Aymeri. It had her mother's seal—broken by Ser Parzival, she assumed. Thumbing the paper, she tried to imagine what was written on it, but dreaded opening and reading it. 
    "What is this?" Her eyes widened despite her wishes, revealing the horror whirring inside her being. 
    "It seems your mother wrote it before her..." he let his words trail off. "It explains the...events...of this morning." 
    Hastily, now, Aymeri unfolded the paper and read it word for word a dozen times before the words came out of her mouth. "What kind of pressures could she not confide in me about? To lead her to this?" She dropped to her knees, her world closing in on her. "Why, mother! Why?" she screamed, her tears choking her until she was gasping for air.
    The room began to spin around her and as her eyes slowly opened and closed, she could see the door to the throne room ajar, then the next time she opened her eyes, it was closed again. Had someone—her thought didn't have time to form before all went dark around her.
