My muscles heave for the umpteenth time trying to force open the door of the room. It was a vain battle that the door so far was winning handily. 

Taking a step back I rubbed my temples tiredly. Not only was I trapped in an unknown room, my headache was back. It was as if a weight was slowly pressing down on my head. Not quite as bad as when I had just woken up, but nevertheless fairly unpleasant. Well if I was not able to force open the door, maybe there is something in the room that could help me out?

Pacing towards the wardrobe, I pull at the doors. No dice. The doors were stuck tight. What about the desk then? Passing over the bare, dusty top of the desk, I inspect the drawers. Locked. No help to be found from that quarter. Groaning under the increasing discomfort of my headache, I collapse on the old mattress. Why not? It was not as if I was leaving this place anytime soon. 

No. I had to keep trying to escape as long as I still had possession of both my kidneys. This was not the time to be going back to sleep. Forcing my eyes open again, I desperately cast my gaze across the room for something, anything that can help. There was still nothing in the room that could help though. The same old mattress, the same wardrobe, the same desktop PC, the same desk, nothing had changed. 

Wait, what?

The PC. It was not there before. I was sure of it. A positively ancient piece of hardware, it even came with a floppy disk drive and a CRT monitor. But all those details did not answer the main problem raised by the PC. The problem that just a few minutes ago it was not there in the room. Was I going crazy? Did too much alcohol rot my brain?

My head buzzing, I cautiously moved closer to the PC. Other than being old, it looked normal enough. Then again, my experiences today were far from what can be considered "normal". Holding my breath, I cautiously pressed the power button not knowing what to expect.

Nothing. Absolutely nothing happened. The PC remained completely inert, its dark blank screen silently judging me.  

Slumping into the chair, I shut my eyes and collected my thoughts. Alright, either I was going cray cray or I was even more wasted than I initially thought. Assuming that it was just me being completely wasted, the PC suddenly appearing meant that my brain had not completely caught up with the situation I was in. All I needed to do was remember my training. The lessons learned from countless episodes of getting smashed. Slow down. Take stock. Get a handle on things. 

Alright. The door was still locked. The partition still did not budge. The window was jammed shut. Hold up. 

Peering out of the window and down on to the street, I realize that I am in a part of town I do not recognize. Not the bad. scabby part either. The neighborhood could be described as rather well off. Clean streets. No hobos or bums lounging outside. Men and women in office wear walking past. There was even a delicatessen opposite the building I was in.  Looking at the buildings surrounding my location, I concluded that I was probably trapped on the second floor of a town house overlooking the main road. Mr GALLANT, if this place was his, certainly had money.

Well who cares about that. I try opening the window again. Completely stuck. The window had none of those security bars people install on the outside to prevent break ins. I suppose there was no need for those things in such a nice neighborhood. Still that gave me an idea. Moving to the PC, I disconnected the CRT monitor and carried it in my arms. Turning towards the window, I lifted the monitor above my head with a grunt. Between a broken window and keeping both my kidneys, I pick my kidneys any day of the week. 

As my muscles strained, the buzzing, buzzing, buzzing in my head increased to the point where it was all I heard. The buzzing that was all I heard, from my head, from the room, from the smart phone vibrating on the desk, it was everything, everything, everything. My vision swam and my eyes watered. There was no escape, no escape, no escape from the accursed buzzing, from this blasted place. 

Groaning, I set the monitor down on the desk and picked up the smart phone. I no longer wondered why I did not see it before. I just wanted the buzzing to stop. 

"Hello?" I croaked. 

A flat, vocoder generated voice rasped from the phone, "If you are done vandalizing the premises, then may we proceed to discuss your mission and deployment?"

Trapped in a world not my own. Facing a destiny never meant to pass. Dealing with a hero doomed to defeat. Which will end first, this world or my life?

Although Qiao Lian could predict SX's completely devastating end, she did not dwell too much on it.
After all, that was someone else's problem, and her own team's match was about to begin.
At this thought, she looked up at Shen Liangchuan and said, "I will book tomorrow's tickets. Are you coming to Shanghai with me?"
He nodded and said, "Of course."
Qiao Lian nodded and added, "Then I'll book your ticket as well. We've been absent too many times, so this time I have to be there myself to cheer for CQ Team."

Today's small group matches would start with PC vs SX. After that, CQ would be playing.
They had arrived earlier partly because they were hoping to gain a greater understanding of PC team's playing. After all, this team was their greatest threat and strongest opponent.
Watching a match on the screen was very different from watching it live.
Qiao Lian and Shen Liangchuan sat in their VIP seats. They had been waiting for a short time when a big and tall man appeared and stood next to Qiao Lian.
She paused for a moment before she turned to look. She discovered it was Lu Nanze!
Qiao Lian immediately stood up with surprise, her pupils shrinking back. She exclaimed, "Second Brother! What brings you here?"
Pointing at the players on stage, he said, "You know, I'm also the boss of PC Team. Why can't I come?"
Qiao Lian laughed at once and said, "I don't mean it like that. I mean, it's a big surprise to see you here."
Lu Nanze cast his gaze down and smiled. He raised his hand and was about to do what he had always done in the past, tousle her hair, when suddenly another hand shot grabbed his wrist.
The man looked up and saw that Shen Liangchuan had cleanly intervened. He turned the grip into a handshake and said, "Mr. Lu, it's been a long time."
Then he inserted himself between his wife and the man, saying, "Xiao Qiao, take my seat there. Let me sit here so that it's easier for me to speak with Mr. Lu."
Qiao Lian was stumped.
It smelled like jealousy. Needless to say, someone was jealous.
She glanced at Lu Nanze and then shifted her gaze to Shen Liangchuan. She raised an eyebrow and immediately pushed Shen Liangchuan out of the way, firmly taking the seat between the two men. "No way, if you want to speak, do it after the match. We're here to watch the match today!"
What if a fight broke out because of them sitting next to each other?
She, Qiao Lian, was not that stupid.
Thinking this, she shook her head at having to worry about such things.
The two men exchanged a glance and simultaneously took their seats beside Qiao Lian, like two heavenly pillars guarding and protecting the girl in the middle.
The host on the stage was now giving an enthusiastically animated narration of the match.
Seated in the audience, Lu Nanze suddenly asked, "The host said that Prince's strength is in C position, what does that mean?" 
The man, who knew nothing about gaming, was asking this.
Qiao Lian burst out laughing and explained:

Today, Su Ning has just entered right on time for her morning class and notices the boy that sat beside her. The boy cannot be called handsome or charming, he is one of the average people in class but today Su Ning sees that there was something that has changed from the boy.

'I guess he broke down' thought Su Ning mildy as she continues to walk to her assigned seat.

The average looking-boy who had been giggling silently with shaking shoulders was Wei Ne.

As Su Ning sat on her seat she puts her shoulder bag down with one hand while the other hand is expertly logging in in her PC station.

Wei Ne smelled a fragnant cherry after Su Ning sat. 'Smells like my spring-time youth' Wei Ne thought as he grins while taking a subtle glance on his cute classmate.

Su Ning noticed the glance of Wei Ne but decided to ignore him as she starts to take note of the talents she has been keeping her eyes on.

Wei Ne continued to look at it for awhile as he mused on how there is still some almost-to-graduate-girls like her in the University. Wei Ne smiled genuinely and had a soft glow on his eyes as he saw how 'Pure' his seatmate was.

Little did Wei Ne know how much he really changed as he wasn't really that confident compared to the previous years as he is now. Wei Ne never dared to harbor any thoughts and musings as he was always concentrated on daydreaming before the class and was always in a daze even when the instructor is lecturing.

Wei Ne right now is planning for his steps on where to use his "MONEY" , making him browse the internet, typing 'money' on the search bar, Wei Ne saw the related articles. 'Top 10 ways to earn Money' , 'How to invest money wisely' , 'Where should i spend my upstart money?'.

Wei Ne's eyes bulged at the realization that HE SHOULD NOT spend money stupidly, but EARN MORE wisely!

After 3 long hours of taking notes, listening to the instructor for Su Ning and browsing for Wei Ne. Su Ning did not forget to cast sidelong glances of disdain to what Wei Ne is browsing in his PC.

After practicing in front of the mirror numerous times, when Xia Shiyu finally shared the good news with the boss, her voice still went off-key due to extreme excitement.
"What the fu*k!" The news practically made Jiang Chen jumped up from the sofa.
"Ahem, no cursing please," Xia Shiyu admonished lightly before continuing, "According to the server's data, the highest number of concurrent users broke through 5 million…it’s better for you to come to the company this afternoon, so I can show you the back end stats directly."
"I’ll be there right away." After saying that, Jiang Chen hung up the phone and was immediately out the door.

A guy with a pair of glasses was staring at the screen of his mobile phone, his fingers moving swiftly on the touchscreen. His spectacles reflected the fighting scene of a roleplaying game character.
"Four eyes, what are you playing? Or are you watching porn?" Tian Zhongjie, his bunkmate, moved his chair closer and stretched his neck to take a peek at his screen.
Tian Zhongjie had just finished playing 'League of Legends' and had almost smashed his keyboards because of those noobs. He was so angry that he didn’t want to play anymore. After 20 losses, he closed the game directly, and then opened the file, and uninstalled the game.
This was his tenth time of uninstalling this game.
Most online games were either filled with RMB players (1) or filled with cheats. Although a lot of noobs played 'LOL', the quality of the game itself was still quite good. At least, the RMB skins wouldn't increase the user's attack damage. Thus, after his anger had abated, he would find himself unable to stop from downloading the game again. Despite that, every time he finished uninstalling, he would swear that he would chop his hand off if he ever installed it again.
Chen Hong cast his friend a sidelong glance before returning his gaze back to the screen and then controlled his character to the direction of the main city.
"What are you being so mysterious about?" Tian Zhongjie had just AFKed, so he had nothing better to do. He then got up and stood behind him.
Chen Hong ignored him and continued to stare intently at the screen.
Just then, the dormitory door opened and Gao Fei, who had just finished playing basketball, walked in.
"Yo, four eyes, didn’t you say that only dumbass play mobile game? Then why are you playing it?" Gao Fei quipped. He curiously stood behind Chen Long trying to see what he was playing.
"What, no way! Is this truly a mobile game?"
As a result, Gao Fei was also unable to peel his eyes off the screen either.

"Could your crappy phone even handle a map with a size of two continents?" Tian Zhongjie's jaw was about to drop to the ground, he felt like his 'LOL' addiction was still not beyond redemption!
"The game is only 300 MB."
"300 MB, you're pulling my leg!" Gao Fei uttered in complete disbelief.
"The company stated that they used the newest data compression technology as well as cloud computing technology...Anyway, I don't understand any of that stuff, I only can care about playing. O For a day, I consumed 10 MB of data, so it's not very high."
Chen Hong killed another monster and deftly picked up the loot of silver coins and equipment and then locked onto the next one.
"I can see that you have been killing monsters for a while now, don't you find that boring?" Tian Zhongjie noticed that he had only been killing monsters after watching him play for a long time. Sure, the fighting scene and graphics were great, but wouldn't it be too boring to be hacking monsters constantly?
"Would you still feel bored if there's money involved?" Chen Hong responded to him as though he was talking to an idiot.
"Money?"
"RMB, you know that, don't you?" he added, sighing.
"What the fu*k, the in-game currency can be exchanged for RMB?" Gao Fei asked in disbelief, his eyes almost popping out.
"The game operator doesn't exchange gold coins, but they offer a platform similar to 'Diablo 3's' auction house. Players are free to price and sell gold coins on a consignment basis. This system is somewhat similar to the stock price, where the lower price is given preference. The game operator will only collect 5% commission fee, and they only take 10% commission for the equipment auction."

"Does it has anything to do with those RMB players?" Gao Fei asked, frowning.

He licked his cracked lips before continuing, "The condition to become a lord is one has to buy a city lease for 100,000 gold coins and then get the city qualification. Imagine if you were a rich player, would you rather hunt monsters like what I'm doing, or would you rather become the lord of a city with countless followers?"
"That's nonsense!" Gao Fei scoffed, but he seemed to have suddenly thought of something as his eyes widened, "Wait, if the city lease costs 100,000 gold, the auction house..."
"That's right, if you play the game normally, it would be impossible to obtain 100,000 gold coins in such a short amount time. Killing a single boar would only drop 2 silver coins and killing 50 would barely give you 1 gold coin. So to become a lord, the only way to acquire gold coins is through the auction house!"
"But would there be that many people willing to buy a city lease?" Tian Zhongjie asked.

"You're overthinking it. Wouldn't you need to build establishments after building a city? Wall, city hall, residential buildings, farm, ect., all of which cost money. In addition to city lords, there are sea explorers! Although putting up a shop would not cost 100,000 gold, a small shop would at least be 500. As for the mega vessel, it costs 1,000 gold and above."
The auction house wouldn't interfere with game content, and the difference between the demand for gold and RMB would prompt frequent trading between the players. As long as the operator continued to push new game contents which would prevent the value of gold from depreciating, the game would continue to survive.

 I woke up lying on the ground with my mind still disoriented.  I can only sense the grass touching my skin, the gentle breeze of the wind blowing over my face and the sight of a beautiful blue sky. If I remember, my PC screen just suddenly went blank and then...

 "Hey Joker, you really should try this upgraded game they are releasing this week. They say it is only open for a limited number of server but it's worth a try. We might actually be able to access their server."

 "You know I'm already done with those games, Brian. On top of that, it's a waste of time", I responded coldly.

 "Oh, come on", Brian protested. "When was the last time you had a good time? I miss you seeing in action. You should try this cool game we are playing right now. It's called "Elder Tales". It's actually way more fun than the game we played last together. How about it, "Agitator"?"

 "Please don't call me that", I retorted. "It's not like it is something I should be happy about. It's the reason I quit playing, remember? 

 "Well, yes but... It's been two years. Just try it once and if it won't click, I'll stop asking. How about it Joker? I'll treat you with your favorite float today."
 
 "You're black mailing me, you must know that", I grunted in protest.

 "If that's what it takes for you to make that one try I asked" Brian grinned.

 "You're really something, bro. I'll think about it but I must have that float you offered as an installment."

 "Sure do. Are you thinking of using a female character again? You've been using female character ever since you started online gaming", Brian asked.

 "Of course I do that to protect my private information. We might not know somebody out there wants you dead because you pissed them so much", I responded.
 "You're right. If it was not because of that, you might have been found out and got beaten up by those players who got banned because of your trickery", Brian concluded.

 "What's so special with this game? It must just be some typical online game anyway", I thought. I checked the internet about the game and found its website. It says that they are going to upgrade the game statistics and introduce more quests and monsters to be fought. After reading some of the articles, I accidentally clicked a hidden link within the web page. So much with my obsession with interesting things, I followed the instructions and filled up some forms. After clicking done, my computer went blank and has shut down on its own. I was surprised with what's happening. "Is it supposed to be like this", I thought. Somehow it was like one of the computer virus that destroys hardware functions like the "Love Virus". I pressed and pressed the reboot button but to my dismay, it never functioned at all. I gave a sigh as I accepted what happened to my PC. I might not even be able to pay for a repair this time because I need the money for my job hunting.

(The day it all happened)

 It was just another typical night for me. After hours of fooling around, I got tired and went straight home. I head immediately to my room and dropped my tired body on my favorite haven, the bed. Just as I am supposed to close my eyes, I caught a glimpse of my unrepaired PC over the corner of my room. It has been almost a year since my computer bugged down and it still pains me to lose my one and only computer. I got up and sat on my bed as I try to remember my experiences I had with that computer. When I thought I should just sell it, I convinced myself I should try powering it on. Maybe, just maybe, it might function again. I won't lose anything if I try anyway so I switched on the AVR and pressed the power button on my CPU unit. To my amazement, my computer worked just fine. I tried connecting to the internet but then my computer went black. That moment, I really felt disappointed. I thought I was able to have my old computer back. Suddenly, the monitor began blinking and then I was blinded by a strong flash of light from the monitor.

 I woke up lying on the ground with my mind still disoriented.  I can only sense the grass touching my skin, the gentle breeze of the wind blowing over my face and the sight of a beautiful blue sky. I waited for a few seconds to pass and as I felt better, I pulled myself up.
This place is new to me. "Where am I exactly?" I thought as I ponder over the things around me. I took a few steps and made observations. My senses are working just fine; I can feel the wind, I can touch the ground and I can smell the aroma of trees and grass just like how I remember it from the real world. The only thing that was suspicious was these icons displayed on my field of vision which look like that on a computer screen on a RPG game. "Wait, am I in a game? This is crazy. I must be inside a virtual reality RPG game."  I accessed one of the icons and a window popped-out. It is the character page where it displayed the status point. On this panel that I just opened, I am surprised because the name registered wasn't my real name but instead it was a name I always use whenever I try to play computer games. "JOKERofSPADES", Level 1. However, something peculiar caught my attention that is written just below the character name. It says "female". "What the heck?  I'm in a female avatar? Is that why I have this uneasy feeling since I woke up?" I checked my hair and it is actually long and dyed violet. It was cool for me using female characters for security but I've never thought it would back fire on me like this. How should I deal with these mountains on my chest and not to forget about "that" below? This is really embarrassing on my part specially that I am wearing female clothing.  I continued reading about my character and it says that "Brekenspear" class are spear handlers female warriors who have high critical hit ratio and having a sub-class mage who can cast magic skills with or without wand or staff. After reading that much, I thought about the place I am in. First, I must look for a more secure ground to assess my environment. I can read more about my character after I can tell I am in a secured place so I decided to set on higher ground just like they do in movies for advantage over odds.

Just like I had promised Jisoo, I didn't tell a soul about what we were doing and waited for her text to guide me. After about hour or two, when it was almost past 10 pm, she texted me the GPS location of the IP address from where the anonymous emails were sent and without a further due, I took my purse and headed out of my house telling my parents that I was just going for an evening walk.

I took a taxi to the place and when I reached, I felt stupid for not recognizing the location of my own college.

Just then I got another text from Jisoo saying there was a change of plan and she required me to go back and wait at home for her because breaking into the college could have serious consequences and that she would handle everything after she would deal with Joshua. 

I narrowed my eyes feeling perplexed. Why was she suddenly deciding that it was fine to cast me out of the plan when we had agreed to go through this together? 

Ignoring the message, for once I decided to see the end to this myself. After all, I was already so close to finding the truth. She might be trying to protect me in her own way but I was not going to back down now. Eunwoo was my dear friend as well and I wanted justice for him too. 

Since students were not allowed inside the college premise after class hours, I used the back gate to climb inside the college and followed the map when I ended up in front of the computer science building. 

Josuha had first used the emails to track the IP address then hacking the network connection of the college, he had discovered the mac address of the PC.  

There were multiple computer labs in the building so finding out the one which was used was going to be tough. However, I wasn't going to bail out easily so I decided to start from the lab which I was most familiar with.

Using the mac address, that Jisoo had texted me along with IP address, I went ahead and check each and every computer to see whose mac-addresses would match, and luckily I found the computer that was used to send those anonymous emails to Eunwoo immediately.

When I stood before the machine the realization that someone I knew was behind Eunwoo's death sunk deeper into my skin and my heart wrenched in disgust.

"Shush, You are safe now

I will protect you from the monsters outside

Nothing in this world can hurt you now

After all, No one will be able to touch you,

see you

hear you

or even smell you

because that's what a good boyfriend does right?

Keep his girl safe.
