Chili Pepper is a red dragon no bigger than a house cat living in France in the 1700s. All he ever wanted was a place to belong but all the other dragons make fun of him because he's so tiny. Then something happens to cause all the mythical creatures to begin to disappear. Now Chili Pepper, a young griffin named Sky, a paranormal wolf named Hunter, a fairy named Wisp, a centaur named Ares, and Belle the Princess of France are on a quest to find out what happened and rescue the missing mythical creatures.


"Where did you get that?" Mike didn't seem to be able to tear his eyes away from it.
"Up in my attic." She moved it more into the open so he could see it better. "It's seen better days but I thought I'd put it out on my porch for Halloween."
Mike reached a hand out to touch the stuffed animal, which came almost to his waist. "So I guess this belonged to your grandparents, too?"
Jamie shrugged. "I guess, although I never saw it whenever I visited them. It was up in the attic behind a stack of cartons. I know this sounds crazy but sometimes when I look at it I get the feeling it's looking back at me."
Mike gave her quizzical look. "Yeah? Interesting."
Before she had a chance to ask him what he meant by that he was at the front door, looking back at Jamie. "You planning to decorate tonight?"
"No. I'm taking the day off tomorrow. My assistant and the volunteers work on Halloween and I work a Sunday for each of them."
Mike frowned. "The library is open Sunday?"
 "Only once a month." Her lips thinned. "We used to be open seven days a week but budget cuts did us in."
"I think everyone's feeling the pinch somehow."
"Anyway, if I decorate tonight most everything will be gone by morning." She gave a rueful laugh. "These are good kids in the neighborhood but they like to make mischief as well as anyone. So, tomorrow is the day."
"Maybe I'll stop over." He winked. "See if I can give you a hand. If you'd like me to, I mean."
Before she could answer him he was gone, leaving her with the strangest feeling she'd missed something.
"Well, Mischief. How about some dinner."
"Mrow." The little cat rubbed against her and twined around her ankles.
"And then we'll read some more of that book. Would you like that?"
When she curled up in the big armchair to read Mischief loved to sit in her lap, settling herself so she almost appeared to reading, too.
The book was one of the many treasures she'd unearthed as she worked her way through everything in the attic. First she'd found the wolf, inexplicably dust-free despite the fact that everything else was wrapped in a thick layer of the stuff. Then several books on the history of Romania. She hadn't known her grandparents were students of history, especially of a country that had no relationship to their family. Or did it? Did she have ancestors from there several generations back that she just didn't know about?
And most of all, what did any of it have to do with the very strange book she'd found, Legends of the Werewolf. The binding was ancient leather, now frayed in many places, and the lettering in gold. The other night when she finally opened it she expected to read about the history of werewolves and how that history came to be. Instead, to her shock, the stories were about shapeshifters, people who could change into the shape of a wolf. Whole villages apparently had that ability and when danger presented itself they shifted into their wolf shape, gathered as a pack and disappeared.
The first thing that caught her attention was the extensive family chart at the very beginning of the book. Labeled Pack Diagram, it listed all the human form names of what she assumed was an entire pack. What on earth could this have to do with her grandparents? Did they study this? Surely they weren't - 
No. She gave herself a mental slap. That was just too wacky to even contemplate. She was letting her imagination run away with her. 
The legends fascinated her from the moment she opened the volume, especially those chapters about werewolf shifters being warriors in human form, even the women. And the hand-drawn pictures showed magnificent animals, sometimes poised on a rock in the moonlight, other times racing through woods. 
The first chapters of the book were devoted to the history of shifters and the explanation of the Slavic term for them, vlkodlak. Now why did that suddenly sound familiar to her?
Of course! Her neighbor, Mike Volka. He'd said his ancestry was Slavic. Was that the reason for his interest in werewolves? She needed to get the book out again and get back into it. She replaced what she called her library clothes with sweats and a long-sleeved tee shirt, leaving off her bra, a treat she gave herself in the privacy of her own home. Then she fed Mischief, fixed herself a sandwich and a soft drink and settled in her chair to read more in the obviously ancient book. The little black cat curled up in her lap as usual.
"Tonight we find out the real skinny on this, kitty," she murmured as she opened the heavy book to the page she had marked. "I don't even know what I'm looking for any more but I hope I find it soon."
She opened the book to the place she'd marked, two pages of hand-drawn sketches. One of the drawings especially caught her eye. The face of the wolf looked almost human and she had the bizarre feeling the animal was staring out at her from the page. 
Stop it! You're letting this book mess with your mind.
But one of the chapters had mentioned the hypnotic effect of the wolf's eyes. It cautioned against staring into them too long. Well, that certainly wouldn't be a problem. She had no intention of ever getting close enough to such a savage animal to have a staring contest with it.
Then her mind went back to those few seconds in her kitchen when for a moment she'd felt transported to an alternate reality. No, that had nothing to do with this. Mike and a wolf? She had to be losing her mind.
She looked down at the book again and carefully turned the page.
"As only a few mythical creatures can claim," she read, "werewolves have been described throughout different parts of the world for centuries. In the last century, several werewolf sightings have been recorded. The werewolf legend has spread across borders, even across seas and oceans. The shapeshifter wolf has the ability to change form at any time. Aggressive energy or anger may increase the likelihood of causing an unintentional transformation, so such shifters are cautioned to practice extreme discipline and self-control. Black and white werewolves, particularly, are also able to maintain the same ability to think consciously and reasonably as a regular human being, no matter what form they take physically." 
Jamie read the paragraph again.  How interesting. Did that mean they could communicate with each other in wolf form? Exactly how did they do that? Maybe that was addressed in a later chapter. 
"It is especially important if they choose a human to mate with."
She nearly dropped the book. Mate? With a human?

Discovering it, she smirked and spoke enthusiastically, "Pch! I have got quite the fluke today! The nine-tailed fox! Who would have thought that I would confront such a supreme mythical beast!"
Mingmei then sneaked in to get closer to the mythical beast. As the nine-tailed fox was quite powerful, Mingmei, therefore, needed the favorable time to strike the beast otherwise, the beast in turned would kill her instead!
Knowing that she had to put her life on the line to kill the Mythical beast. Mingmei concentrated herself on the beast and sneakily launch an attack using her full force in one swing.
As the nine-tailed fox was quite powerful it strived to pushed Mingmei's soul out of her body nonetheless Mingmei managed to get inside her body and struggled a while.
Soon after, Mingmei wielded all her strength and prowess and annihilated the nine-tailed fox at that instant. The nine-tailed fox whined in pain as it dies.
The nine-tailed fox was lying dead on the ground.
Mingmei then used her prowess with a heavy breath to slice open the nine-tailed fox's stomach.
She slashes the nine-tailed fox into two halves. As it was cut into two halves, the core of the nine-tailed fox was clearly visible. It was a blue colour core. 
Mingmei took out the nine-tailed fox's core with a sly grinned. She then impatiently came out from there.
Mingmei then headed towards her usual spot, the secluded cave.
Reaching there, she seated at the rock and stared admiringly at the core. She then consumed the nine-tailed fox core. As soon as she ate the nine-tailed fox's core she instantly felt at the top of the world. Her body's vigor had become so powerful as if it was a body with good cultivation. 
The skin of Mingmei was too glowing and illuminating, it was like adding jewellery to an already beautiful body. She now looks seductively charming and alluring that if any man had seen her face, they would immediately fall for her. She has now obtain the spellbinding traits of the nine-tail.
Liking the transformations in her new body, Mingmei smirked and grinned, "Ha...! There's no way the seventh immortal would escape my charm. Huojin! Let's see if you can avoid me this time!"
Mingmei then recuperates inside the cave with the core of the nine-tailed fox.
If a mortal body with no cultivation has taken a mythical beast core then it will take around nine days to rebond well into its new body. During those nine days, the core of the nine-tailed will slowly adapt on the mortal's body and it will be completely bind to its new host by then.
Knowing it, Mingmei secludes herself there inside the cave.
On the Other side...
As Yuanjun wasn't able to get on any leads for Fen, he felt so tired and dejected. At times, he felt like he wouldn't be able to find Fen anymore. It seems that Fen wasn't at that place called Shanjin anymore, therefore, he decided to leave that place. As he was about to leave the place, he guessed he should put the drawings of Fen there for one last time.
As he was putting the drawings of Fen there, one man came and stared at the drawings.
He then asked, Young man, "Is she your girlfriend?!"
As he asked him the question Fen stared at Yuanjun eagerly thinking what would his answer be?
Yuanjun turned to look at the man and replied nervously, "No! She is my childhood friend"
Fen was quite disappointed at Yuanjun's answer that she shooked her head and distracted herself.
The man then suggested, "Well....Why don't you go to the Chief of Shanjin and ask for his help?!"
The man goes on, "He might help you!"
Hearing his words, Fen spoke with enthusiasm, "Well! That's a great idea!"
and turned to Yuanjun.
Yuanjun finding a faint piece of hope in his words he inquired, "Where is his house?!"
The man gave the answer, "Not quite far...just go straight that way ahead!"
The unknown man told him the direction of the Chief's house.
Therefore, Yuanjun following the route the man spoke he bids goodbye to the man and headed for the Chief of Shanjin's house. Fen followed him.
After walking for quite a while, Yuanjun had reached the Chief of Shanjin house.
There were two guard at the gate of the Chief's house.
Fen spoke brimming with happiness seeing the gate of the Chief, "We have reached Yuanjun!"
Yuanjun asked humbly to the guard, "Can I meet the Chief?!"
The guard inquired in hostile, "Who are you? Do you personally know the Chief?"
Yuanjun replied hesitantly, "Ahh! I am called Yuanjun. I came from the neighbouring village called Xueyang. I don't personally know the Chief. I came to ask for his help!"
The guard tried to drove him off, "The Chief is busy! Come other time!"
Seeing that the guard is purposely trying to drive him away, Yuanjun tried to barge into the gate, "Let me just wait for him inside!"
While they were struggling, the Chief of Shanjin saw it. Therefore, he proclaimed, "Let him come!"
The guards immediately stood aside hearing the words of the Chief.
Fen smiled at Yuanjun and went ahead. She then stood beside the Chief.
Yuanjun came towards the chief and greeted him.
The Chief then stated, "Let's head inside"
They then went inside the house.
The Chief was seated on his chair.
He then stared at Yuanjun and inquired, "Tell me who are you? Why did you came to meet me?"
Yuanjun greeted him with his palm resting on the fist of the other hand, "I am called Yuanjun. I have came from the neighbouring village of Xueyang"
Yuanjun further continues, "My childhood friend Fen has been missing from her home for the last few days. I came all the way here in search of her. I am requesting the Chief of Shanjin to help me in finding my childhood friend for me!"
Fen was standing on the side seeing all of it.
Hearing his words the Chief of Shanjin questioned him in stern, "Do you have the drawings of your childhood friend?!"
Yuanjun responded, "Yes..yes...I have.."
He then took out a drawing of Fen from his bag and handed it to the Chief.
The Chief took in the drawings and looked at it. He then reacted, "She is quite a young girl! How come she is missing!"
The Chief then gazed at Yuanjun and proposed, "Young man! I will keep this picture with me to help you find your Childhood friend"
Hearing the Chief's words Fen excitedly spoke to Yuanjun, "The Chief is helping us!"
Yuanjun feeling delighted at his words he thanked the Chief with his palm resting on the fist of the other hand, "Thank you Chief! I shall never forget your kindness!"
Just as Yuanjun was about to leave the place.
The Chief inquired him, "Where did you stay though?"
Yuanjun shooked his head and replied hesitantly, "The inn at Shanjin is too costly that I couldn't afford it, therefore, I slept at a tree!"
The Chief stunned at his words reacted, "What!!?? You slept at a tree? You are not a monkey that you should sleep at a tree!"
Yuanjun feeling shy smiled hesitantly.
The Chief then proposed, "No...no...this won't do...instead stay at my place. Stay here until we find your childhood friend!"
Fen was stunned at the Chief's kindness that she thanked him even though he didn't hear her words, "Thank you, so much for helping Yuanjun!"
Yuanjun was left speechless at the Chief's words.
He thanked the Chief in earnest, "Thank you so much for your kind help, Chief! I shall never forget your kindness!"
The Chief then gave ordered to his servant, "Take him to his room!"
Fen went ahead while Yuanjun was coming at the back.
As per the Chief's order the servant took Yuanjun to the guest room.
It was a nice comfy room with a small single bed. There was a big window on the side and a table and a chair more better than the inn at the Shanjin's marketplace.
Fen strolled around the room and blurted, "Hmm...Not bad! Its better than the inn!"
Yuanjun felt so pleased at seeing the room. Never did he expect to received such a warm welcome from the Chief of Shanjin as compared to the Chief of Xueyang who was a cruel, shady and a selfish man.
Yuanjun kept his bag on the side and seated there.
Fen then looked at Yuanjun and spoke, "Yuanjun! Stay here! I will take a stroll around the place!"
Fen then left to see the place.
On the Other side.....
The Chief ordered his servant to called the guards.
The guard came rushing in. He then gave his order to the guard, "Quick! Gather your troops to find a missing girl"
The Chief then handed him the drawings of Fen.
The guard took the drawing.
The Chief further continued, "Remember to search every corner and find the young girl, even if she is dead then bring her body to me!"
Heeding to his command, the guard rushed to find the girl in the drawing.
