Acts 17:1-15 New International Version (NIV) says

In Thessalonica

17 When Paul and his companions had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a Jewish synagogue. 2 As was his custom, Paul went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures, 3 explaining and proving that the Messiah had to suffer and rise from the dead. "This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Messiah," he said. 4 Some of the Jews were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as did a large number of God-fearing Greeks and quite a few prominent women.

5 But other Jews were jealous; so they rounded up some bad characters from the marketplace, formed a mob and started a riot in the city. They rushed to Jason's house in search of Paul and Silas in order to bring them out to the crowd.[a] 6 But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some other believers before the city officials, shouting: "These men who have caused trouble all over the world have now come here, 7 and Jason has welcomed them into his house. They are all defying Caesar's decrees, saying that there is another king, one called Jesus." 8 When they heard this, the crowd and the city officials were thrown into turmoil. 9 Then they made Jason and the others post bond and let them go.

In Berea

10 As soon as it was night, the believers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue. 11 Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. 12 As a result, many of them believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men.

13 But when the Jews in Thessalonica learned that Paul was preaching the word of God at Berea, some of them went there too, agitating the crowds and stirring them up. 14 The believers immediately sent Paul to the coast, but Silas and Timothy stayed at Berea. 15 Those who escorted Paul brought him to Athens and then left with instructions for Silas and Timothy to join him as soon as possible.

One can make an eternal impact in the lives of others by studying the Bible, applying what you learned & teaching this to others.


2 Timothy 3:16-17 New International Version (NIV) says
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

that all Scripture is inspired by God & is useful teaching, rebuking, correcting & training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be equipped for every good work. This is why we need to study God's word, not merely for knowledge but for transformation.

STUDY GOD'S WORD

As we continue to study the Book of Acts, we follow Paul into chapter 17 where he engaged with all kinds of people that he encounters in his travels. The first place that Paul often went to in different cities was the synagogue. Here in Thessalonica, he gives an account of the Messiah, the promised deliverer of the Jews. Paul refers to the Old Testament to create a 'dialegomai'(Greek) or dialogue from the Scriptures. He explains that the Jesus Christ had to suffer & rise again, as written 


in Isaiah 53:5 New International Version (NIV) says

5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,
    he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
    and by his wounds we are healed.


& in Psalm 16:10-11 New International Version (NIV) says
10 because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead,
    nor will you let your faithful[a] one see decay.
11 You make known to me the path of life;
    you will fill me with joy in your presence,
    with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

Obviously, Paul studied Scriptures & knew what it says about the promised Messiah. Paul related ancient prophesy from Scripture to the historical event of Jesus death on the cross & His resurrection. Paul proclaimed Jesus with boldness & trusted the Lord for the outcome. Indeed, Paul would preach in the synagogue & would get beaten up after, yet he would do the same thing in the next city they would go to. He was not discouraged even if he faced opposition. He knew what his calling was, to preach the good news first to the Jews & then to the Gentiles. His calling was sure & getting beaten up & opposed to his face did not stop him from continuing on his mission. When you have an impact, you will have an uproar. In the things you are doing for God, are you experiencing an "uproar"? Doing God's work  might mean facing hostility from the very people you are trying to reach out to.

APPLY GOD'S WORD 

We must also check our eagerness in approaching God's word. Do you find the Bible bland & boring? Are you excited to encounter God in His word? 


Psalm 1:1-2 New International Version (NIV) says

Psalm 1
1 Blessed is the one
    who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
    or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
    and who meditates on his law day and night.

Though the Bible does not promise a life without problems it is a deep source which God uses to guide you in making wise decisions as you face life's difficulties & challenges. Apply what you learn from the Bible in your life even before you attempt to share it with others!

TEACH GOD'S WORD  

The next group of people that Paul engages within Acts 17, were the Bereans who were more open to Paul's teaching compared to the Thessalonians. In matters of discernment, we must be like the Jews in Berea who not only studied the Scriptures but also used this to examine what was being preached to them. In listening to preachers, we must have an unbiased eye & be opened to the truth that a preacher teaches but always go back to Scripture & check for ourselves what we heard from the preacher against what the Bible says. Is this how we view the speakers we encounter? With an unbiased eye but a discerning spirit? We need to be careful because there are many false teachers & many more will arise. Like Paul, are you willing to take a beating for something you believe in? It is so hard to teach what you do not believe in, so make sure that you know why you believe what you believe & teach. One of the greatest hindrances to God using you to teach others about the Bible is your unwillingness to apply God's word. Have a self-check, is your Bible knowledge making you arrogant? Beware that it does not, as

Concerning Food Sacrificed to Idols

8 Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that "We all possess knowledge." But knowledge puffs up while love builds up.

As one grows deeper in the knowledge of Christ & the Bible, one should be more understanding, loving & humble. Is this true for you? The Thessalonians did not accept Paul's teaching the first time & yet even with the initial resistance, a church was established in Thessalonica. Paul's commitment to teach God's word no matter the personal consequence to him, eventually bore much fruit. The Thessalonians became an example of how lives surrendered to Jesus can become a vibrant church. We too can be an example of how a surrendered life that studies, applies & teaches the Bible can be transformed because of Jesus Christ.

Lists of thoughts... Random thoughts... (considered as communion to God Almighty!)

I was the night guard of my house from very early ages. For some reasons, I couldn't do my private and very sacred passions early in the morning. I usually sleep for 5 hours a day at max and other hours were my inner soul mates. I had a group of my own all were living inside my head. We ate together, worked together, slept together and even took vacation together,  we never stayed a part from each other because they all were living inside my head. No, I wasn't suffering from any phobia or anything. It was just what I feel comfortable with. I read many psychological theories, issues,  stories, articles and books about it but all it seemed normal.  It was completely unknown to any psychological books because I wasn't the introvert or nerdy type. It was just me. I had many friends online,  off line, even had a group to study and work with them but still I needed the voice of my inner soul mates. Every day was the same, after whole day of high school work and study, I had to take my shower and sleep then had my dinner, in holidays I had the whole day nap session and went for my part time job, I was a wedding photographer. It was a well paid job and I was improving on it. Yes, I had my temptation of luxury to progression. I had my own dog for petting, it was a golden akita but I named it 'mistress', so my future lover shouldn't be offended. At midnight, I loved to take tour on the skyline with my telescope. It was a beautiful gift from my parents when I was 15 years of teen. That night I was doing the same, hot chocolate coffee with marshmallows, grilled cheese, pringles and spicy egg cheese sandwiches alongside with me and my beloved mistress.  His howling song at night in silent voice seemed to me serenade of past life as if he was missing his long lost girlfriend of other life because in his 7 years of life, he was still single and singing serenade at night to me. I was feeling bad about him, I had to do something for his love life. I was wandering around with my telescope as usual from sky then into my neighbourhood to took a sneak views of them then I saw her, it was a duplex house with small garden infront of the house, all garden lights were solar lights, I loved the idea of cost efficiency, she was in her veranda, in formal office outfits. Looking stunningly gorgeous to me, I couldn't tell about others but I never seen such beauty in my school mates or online friends. Beige long one piece cotton dress with linen long sleeves, mandarin collar, military style jacket without any shoes on her but oriental carpet slippers, wavy  hair were flying in the air, looking like an ice fairy taking her time off from human life, drinking some kind of liquor with one hand and another with a box of chocolates. Golden yellow light from her back made her more attractive. Every curve of her body was clearly drawn by the light, her few unbuttoned dress showing the dark secrecy into it, thin line gone to downwards where the mountains landed on the sea of streams that probably in the mist of lust where it was hidden from my eyes but her unbuttoned silky thighs shyly playing games with the breeze of nature, playing pick a boo with my googled eyes, I was nearly engulfing her. Within the limelight of the moon, I could see her diamond like sparkling eyes beautifully engraved in her peach shaped face with rose petal lustrous lips, very slowly taking small sips in her drinks then taking small bites little by little in her chocolate, one after another she was exploring those chocolates,  it's like she was testing it's goodness within, oh god, I was falling for an unknown stranger. When she was finishing her drinks then a man from behind came to grab her slim waist, then whispering in her ears, both of them giggling, she was feeling shy. Her shyly smear of smile on that lustful lips still in my mind, I memorized it like a seductress of my night. He was kissing her neck,  biting her ears then slowly unbuttoning the rest of her dress, when she turned to him for a kiss, oh god, what a arousing sight it was for me, they were kissing like they were couldn't have enough of their lips, softly muttering, smiling and kissing. She was still holding her glass and chocolate,  she stopped him to take breath then finished her drinks and made him to eat her leftover chocolate then started again and went to their bedroom. I was feeling so disappointed by losing them from my sights. It seemed I might cry then after 15 minutes of long waiting, I went to my bed. It was then I fall for a woman for the very first time and still searching for such. Later, I was there to find her but I never could've founded her,  her husband always took her for the business trip then one day they sold the house and moved out. I dated girls from my high school but all they were busy with their back biting,  fighting and gossiping,  I moved out as soon as I saw such nonsense in them but take a time for her to remember. It was raining like cats screaming on dogs. I was slightly nostalgic annoyed, and bit of anguished to myself. Kept loving memories of someone that I didn't even know. How and why, I was full of her in me, I really hoped to know myself.  I couldn't stand any girl, somehow they all were lack of something decency or innocence or that little hesitation of completely unaware devotional slavery to love, couldn't decide.

Last night, was the night when we learned that house could be wider than our size of the eye. We had seen our school but not a house like that. We all rose early in the morning,  I had awoken more earlier at 6.00 a.m. I took a lukewarm morning bath, wore my brown long skirt with white t-shirt and quater sleeves dark brown summer jacket and low heeled dark brown boots. First day, we were going to look around the farm and learned about our each assigned work that we had to do for a month. So, I got ready and left my room at 7.30 a.m. with my bag. It was a beautiful sight, blueish bright light bulging into the staircase from the big wide windows of the room, all maids and servants of the farm started their works probably at six o'clock. All lights were turned on. I was feeling chillingly good. I went down to long hallway to see the balcony, the rain was stopped, so I took initiatives to enjoy the views of the balcony. There were painted white, garden iron benches with tables, all lined up infront of the balcony to enjoy the views. There were a small greenhouse with herbs and vegetable gardens on the both sides of the balconies upfront. There was a side wide iron stairs from the each balcony to the greenhouse garden. It was simply an artistic sight for me. How long I was standing there,  I didn't count but the manager came there to talk with me. He was a mid aged man with clean shaved , strong jawline, sharp nose, black timid eyes like a wild animal without any curiosity, tanned skin, trimmed hair, well dressed, strong mid size man. He wore beige trouser with stripe white half shirt and brown boots. He was looking very charming fresh air to me. We talked about the school, farm, their farm works, farm made produces and greenhouse. He took me to the greenhouse. It was beautiful, small pathway in the middle and all veggies, herbs were on the both sides. He was mentioning it was a gothic greenhouse that produces their household vegetables and herbs. Then we were heading to our breakfast table. Other students all went to their dinning hall then I joined to them later. He took a leave for that moment from me and went to his work. They gave us hot porridge with freshly baked bread,  cereal biscuits, mixed fruit with nuts salad in a small cup and lemon tea as a breakfast.  After that we were allowed to look around the farm. We where staying at a valley ranch, it was as magnificent as the name could be, pale light blue with black roof was looking gorgeous on those woods, surrounded by hedges. Last night, I couldn't realised that it could be more beautiful than the pictures. The farm gate was one side of the road and the garage was facing towards the roadway, it was at the corner of the ranch, so no one had to handle any dilemmas or an accident of any kind to park their cars, just straight away from the gate and stop. The pathway to the cattle ranch was on the other side of the valley ranch, hidden behind the hedge plants, upfront of the hedges there were flower beds and shrubs on a row beautifully arranged. When they took us in the ranch, we saw dairy cattles and goats were getting ready for giving their milk to greedy human kind, the chicken and hens were eating their breakfast, farmers checking their laying eggs, swans, goose, ducks and ducklings all were kept near the small pond, it was not so deep, no one could try to even die there, as the manager said, there they farming shrimp, tilapia and catfish mostly. Small pond under the couples of coconut trees alongside there were classic style pale blue garden tea table and chair settings looking quite neat. Anyone could have swim in the pond if they wanted to. All big trees were there on the backside of the coconut trees. Fruit and nut trees were those, they even had a grape vines aligned on the slope, the whole ranch was surrounded by hedges and wrought iron fences with alarms, so everything could stay peacefully and secured. We ate some of the freshly baked apple pies and afternoon green tea in the enormous kitchen which was at the end of the dinning hall then our teachers noted us, our assigned everyday duties for a month, til the luncheon time we discussed about our duties. At lunch, they prepared sun dried tomatoes, shrimps, cabbages and mint salad with lemon, cashew nut and white sauce, tilapia fries, shrimp with coconut milk curry, boiled egg and catfish salad, baked spicy chicken, spinach and cottage cheese fry with plain oily rice, polao was the name of it as the maid said then afterwards they gave us fruit salad with homemade mango and vanilla ice cream. We never suffered for food there. They always treated us of their best and we were shamelessly never hesitated to eat. Later, I had to focus on my duties which was assigned in the greenhouse with my roommates for a week and others were assigned in the farm. We all had to take the shifts in every area of farming for our individual practical experiences. We had to work in the morning and at evening we were free from our prison of slavery.  But it was a monsoon season, our work changed into a good ideal time to hang around, most of the time we were spending in the valley ranch.  The manager saved us from our innocent injustice of nature and showed us the library which was newly discovered by us in the basement of the dinning hall. It was in the dark corner of the room, it was separated by the wall where we imagined a store room of the dinner tableware or dishware. It was a beautiful, luxurious, comfy and a big library, I had to admit it. Well decor screaming out the intensity of importance behind the secrecy of it. Valuable relics, souvenirs from different countries, ancient historic books were all around the room, in the middle leather sofas,  on one sides there were tables and chairs for studies and researches, radio for entertainment, indoor board games and table games, fridge for snacks, small bedroom with washroom if anyone get tired of studying could take nap for a while, armchairs, air cooler what else anyone could be interested in when they were enjoying that kind of hospitality. The book shelves were from sky high to floor, they kept staircase as well for the book shelves. After the whole day of work if weather was feeling merciful to us, on the evening, sometimes we did fishing, had enjoyed picnics with our adult boys cooking or sometimes we spent our times on learning things like car driving, swimming or cooking. Other than that we spent our evening on the terrace or in the library. Our couples were spending more times with each other by that time, sometimes we founded them gazing each others for hours who knows for what reasons, sometimes we even couldn't find them for chilled out with us, their love were mesmerizing in the air when suddenly at one point a couple began arguments with each other. It was evolving everyday little by little then oneday one of the adult lover boy screamed at his girlfriend. He was accusing her recent interest on our one of the teacher. That teacher was a good looking guy with his sparkling calm timid eyes, he could scan anyone, he was an earthly person,  everything in this world, he could concur with his humane benevolence nature. If he got the permission for doing it by the help of our undying devotional slavery, under his supervision, everything was possible for him. We were all loudly laughing at his accusations. One of his friend gave him ice cold bag on his head if he had any kind of head injury to cool it down, another was saying how could you accused our innocent father of the earth with such an awful crap who could actually take any good looking woman out for a date? His girlfriend was feeling little bit ashamed by their reactions.  After that her boyfriend was shyly smiling at his idiosyncratic behaviour. We couldn't comprehended how the time flew out of the room. It was a dinner time. For that day we left our library alone. Later, that boyfriend was creating problems for our earthly teacher, stolen his things to make him feel bad, used innocent leeches to die under his pillow oneday, the next day he was crying out of pain when the manager founded out about that incident, he was furious on the maidens for their negligence about it and ordered them to give him some salt for the leeches,  the manager tried to push the oral sucker which was thinner in the end to detach it, repeated it few times then pour salt on it, to dehydrate it,  to death. The manager was scolded the servants the whole morning but we all knew who did that because we saw him to collect them from the garden. The good news was he only used two small leeches which were sucking one of his hand or else it could be worse. Afterwards, we all started to look after her boyfriend so he could not do more harmful things out of jealousy.  We didn't know if our teacher knew anything about his jealousy but he kept the distance with his girlfriend. At the end of our bon voyage with beautiful memories and pictures, we were headed to our old sweet home with watery eyes.

'Hmm, loving arms are waiting for me somewhere up on the hill or at the corner of the alley who knows when, that was the thought of her that day before everything happened later on, to change her entire life. Sai was not only a young, energetic or even spontaneous woman who lived with her parents, but a good breath of fresh air among the freshers for a start in anything. She was a local journalist of an online newspaper. A bit of a last runner in her career but she was completely okay with it. Very social and charming little girl whoever saw her once they couldn't believe their eyes that she was a journalist who they thought a school girl or just a girl from neighbourhood.  


I have to talk to him, how was he? Missing his soft voice messages on my phone. I met him in a spring festival. He was wondering around a book stall, checking every dark suspicious books, bargaining the price then accepting his failure of loss and moving on with another book stall. I was right behind him when he accidentally saw me standing there the whole time and watching his embarrassment. He got angry at me and yelled to me as if I was harassing him but no one was there to listen him because of all the festival noises. I was like a new kid, born that day infront of him and with all the abundant devotional curiosity trying to understand his problems. But who could make me understand what was his problem with me. Just an obedient pet following around him in the whole festival like an abandoned cat. I have no idea what was wrong with me that day but I did it anyway.  He didn't noticed anything.  I was following around him, just watching him, what was he doing alone in the festival, I was a columnist in an online newspaper, so everything is legal.  When he saw me again then I introduced myself to him. He was surprised at first then I took him for a snacks and drinks, with his permission of course. I was little optimistic about these things.  Then I learned he was an artist but his talent had no intention to be likeable by the common people but he was not frustrated at all, moreover he was highly enthusiastic about his unique talent. Why his paintings were unique because he only use five colours black, blue, red, white and green, he named himself augustine, even the name had a reason of itself but he wasn't prepared to share the whole story with me. From then to now we are a best friend. Everyday, we took a good morning walk together then breakfast then got back to our everyday jobs. It was okay at the start but he was lately feeling some kinds of uneasiness around me. I had no idea why probably falling in love with me, giggling to myself, it was funny at first then he started to create distance with me, I understood it was my que to leave him alone. I was in deep within him but he loved to ignore it as usual though I think he knows it, later on he started to explore his nearby forest for inspirations. Now, I don't know, I still keep missing him everyday, especially his cute little voice messages every now and then to alarm me not to fall in love instantly with him or anyone. Lately, he kept forgetting to leave any messages or hangout with me. Don't know why. Never took me to his place that I could even give him surprise visit. Pathetically sad love story that I am experiencing right now. I really wonder, why he is like that but I have no answer to get any solution of his problems. 


I was working like a dog, keep missing his presence, doing my everyday lifestyle to enjoy the life with utmost respect and comfort in my budget but seems everything turning into nothingness. I was a good student like the scholarship type but didn't have that thing to win me one. Not that much of a popular either, so when I met another kind of me, I was instantly loved that. It is half past nine, I have to send him a voice message but before that I need a good bath, whole day was a headache on my ass. I had to attend the conference from my newspaper agency, new articles I have to study and write about, how bad it can be. Water is too cold needing a steamy shower, sulking at my utterance limits of real life and it's time for voice message before my bed. What should I say, it seemed an half a year but actually a week or more, should I say I love you or miss you, no, no, it might hurt his innocent ignorance, hmm, well, can't decide. With her thoughtful endeavours about him, wanting to send him a sweet voice message so he could run into her quickly to love her unconditionally, but the time slept away in her heart while holding her mobile on her bosom, it was a sound sleep indeed. One hand holding her mobile close to her bosom and another was above her. At exact 8 o'clock in the morning, a call wake her up,  just before that she felt a simple touch of a hand on her other empty hand, as if it is never going to let her go, always going to stay with her, in his loving arms with safety and soundly secured, with his sweet voice, he was whispering in her ears, I will always be with you, probably he was going to say more but then the mobile rang, so, she took the call when a stranger asked her, is it Sai? She said yes. Then added do you know Augustine, he is founded dead in his room this morning, he was ill with high fever, just before his death, he left a message for us, I meant whoever founded him, he left a message for us to call you, the whole house is sealed by the government,  because he was a loner, there was no one around him or beside him to take care of him and no one even knows about his illness but we took the liberty to receive his messages and a painting that was left for you, are you going to accept it? She was shocked stone, couldn't understand what to say to him, then with broken hazy voice, she said yes, I would like to accept his gift but could I see him? Then the guy stopped talking for a while and said no, because he was taken to the hospital as an specimen of a rare disease, it took a week to kill him and it might be outrageous for sharing any type of physical contacts with anyone,  it was for your own safety madam, we will deliver to you his last gift and messages that were only meant for you. Then she said, nothing, just crying silently over the phone. The man spoke to her again then said, please send me your location to deliver your things then cut off the call. 


He died a month or more before without saying a goodbye to her, she didn't touched anything that was send to her. Those things were left alone to her storeroom just like he left her without saying anything to her. She spoke to him a week before his death but he didn't say a word about his illness, nevertheless, not even shared his home address that she could take any kind of initiation to show her care for him. He was just a selfish arrogant man who was suffering from his psychological illness and later it cope up with physical one. She was completely awfully absurd by the thought of him, even feeling disturbed to herself for feeling bad and useless for him. It was all his fault to make her feel that way. Arrogant dog, always in a barking mood to anyone who accidentally even like him for a minute, jerk. It was good for the society that he died or a man like him who was such an unstable, unbalance, anti social, moody and poor guy was a dangerous disease as a man himself and moreover, he died on a rare high fever that everyone is unknown to it. Only he could harvest such a disease from the nature. She was soaked with frustration and sadness, unknowingly to herself, she went to her storeroom, unpacked his belongings that were left for her, a some sort of book or probably a diary that was larger than usual size, there he kept all those feelings that he could not say anything to her in small messages, his all failures in life, small sketches of her with him, his dreams with her that all he tried to draw there, ideas of various kinds of artwork that he couldn't stay long enough to finish and a painting of him with her, she was on her lap, both of them sharing intimacy, shyly giggling  with each other that was never happened in real life. That was the first time when she saw his complete work of five colours. She couldn't resist it anymore the temptation of crying out loud in that gloomy storeroom that was witnessing her feelings which was completely unaware of her own ignorance of his deepest desires.

In an inaccessible village, there were a few houses on the hillside.

"Several thousand years old?" Chen Wudi wasn't too sure of it himself. "After all, I don't know how long I lived in the past."
"I'm talking about this current life!" Ren Xiaosu snapped. He realized he actually had to phrase his words carefully when communicating with Chen Wudi.
"Oh, I'm 22," Chen Wudi said.
As Ren Xiaosu felt it was rather strange that someone who was five years older than him had suddenly become his disciple, he asked, "Were you arrested and brought to the asylum by the private army?"
When Zhang Baogen got arrested, Wang Fugui received news that three arrested supernatural beings had been sent to the newly established psychiatric hospital by the private army on that same night. They even transported a lot of medical devices to the hospital at the time.
"No." Chen Wudi shook his head and said, "I was already in an asylum a few years ago. I told them that I was the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, but they didn't believe me. Some time ago, they transferred me to a new hospital for some reason. They even drew my blood and did some tests on me."
"Then do you know Zhang Baogen?" Ren Xiaosu was curious.
"The one who blows bubbles?" Chen Wudi's eyes lit up. "Yes, he was in the ward next to mine. There was also another patient, but I don't know where he went."
From those words, Ren Xiaosu confirmed that Chen Wudi was really from the psychiatric hospital and had been in there with Zhang Baogen at the same time.

For the past few years, he had been thinking every day about looking for his master so they could go to the Western Paradise on a pilgrimage to obtain the Buddhist scriptures. Along the way, he would subdue demons and monsters and bring justice to the innocent. However, his master was saying he didn't want to go to the Western Paradise?!
Chen Wudi considered it for a long time before saying, "No, you have to go!"
Ren Xiaosu was speechless. 'What do you mean by I have to go? I first have to know where the Western Paradise is, right? It's not like Zhang Jinglin talked about this before!'

Ren Xiaosu looked around and saw several thousand people sleeping on the ground with only a few campfires burning. The sky was shrouded in darkness, and the early winter wind got even colder.
After the escapees experienced massive setbacks and went on a distant and arduous journey for two days, they still had to endure their hunger. They were feeble to the point of collapsing. When the cold wind blew tonight, a lot of these people were likely not going to get up again the next morning.

Lin Mu found himself in a dark place once again, but this time he can see his body clearly even though there was no source of light present there. Lin Mu not understanding how he ended up there feels scared and can't help but think to himself was he back in a dream.
"How do I get out of here? Should I just wait till I wake up naturally, since I'm here I may as well walk around and check this place out"
After being in the dark place for a couple of minutes now, Lin Mu's eyes start to adapt to the darkness and can see things more clearly, looking around in all directions he finds a pale glow of lights coming from one direction deciding to walk towards it and find out what it is. While walking towards the pale glow Lin Mu observes some changes to the black sky.
"What are those faint streaks of light in the sky? I've never heard of phenomena like this before. Guess I'm definitely in a dream"
There were silver and grey faint streaks of light in the sky which would fade away into darkness and then appear again, thousands of them could be seen as if they were dancing in a mysterious harmonic pattern. After a few minutes Lin Mu reached the source of the pale glow that he observed from far, finally seeing the object he found it to be an altar but it was made up of faint glowing runes and mysterious scripts which were floating in the air, forming the shape of an altar, the altar itself not having a physical presence.
"Those runes and scriptures look similar to the ones that were carved on the outside of the ancestral temple of Wu Lim city. But aren't they used by cultivators to make qi formations, why would they appear in my dream?"
Lin Mu still remembered when he visited Wu Lim city with his father during the New Year's festival two years ago. His father brought him to the ancestral temple to pay their respects, commoners could not go inside the temple so they paid their obeisance from outside. He remembered his father finding him staring at the carvings on the ancestral temple, his father explained that those carvings were used to create qi formation by qi cultivators, which were used for various things such as fortifying, strengthening, offence, defence and many more.
 As Lin Mu approached the altar, the various runes and scriptures became more vibrant, feeling an urge to touch it, Lin Mu placed his hand upon the altar and found it to be solid even though it had no physical body. A moment later he felt a sharp pain in his head then felt a rush of information in his brain, mysterious chants filling and imprinting on his mind.
"The Nine Divine Heart Sutras, assimilate the essence of the nine paths, understand a million hearts as one and ascend the path of the great cosmos"
As soon as the chants stopped in his mind Lin Mu found himself back in the old hunting shack, for a moment his eyes lost focus and he remembered where he was, checking his body and finding everything normal, he tried to remember the chants that filled his mind but could only remember one part of them; he tried to remember the rest of the chants but felt as if there was a fog obscuring his memories.
"I can only remember the first part, The Calming Heart Sutra, should I recite it, there's no harm in trying"
As Lin Mu chants the calming heart sutra, at first he feels nothing but after completing the first chant he feels a calming wave spreading all over his body as if all his worries were washed away, this incredible feeling lasted a couple of minutes before fading away and the normal sense of self returned to Lin Mu.
"What an incredible feeling, I felt as if I could sense every part of my body clearly, the blood flowing and the small waves of energy in my muscles, I want to try this again"
Reciting the chant once again, Lin Mu felt the calming feeling washing over his body. This time he tried to sense the waves of energy that were moving in his muscles. As he focused on the waves of energy in his muscles the waves intensified and then he felt a marvellous feeling of strength filling his body even more than morning when he put on the mysterious ring.
"Haha, I broke through to the fourth stage of body tempering, what luck two breakthroughs in one day, this chant is definitely a body tempering technique and sensing the similar wave of energy when I put on the ring, I guess it originated from the ring, this ring is definitely a treasure or could it be a spatial storage ring that qi cultivators use."
Now Lin Mu did not want to sell the ring at all, for only a fool would let go of an opportunity like this, he knew that it would only bring benefit to him, as for whether the ring was a spatial storage ring he could not verify it as he was not a qi cultivator yet, nor did he know how he ended up in the dark place with the altar made of glowing runes and scriptures.
Thinking that he may be able to fulfil his dream of becoming a qi cultivator one day he felt excitement he had not felt ever before and all the feelings of sadness and despair from yesterday's events washed away.

Now knowing the direction in life that he is supposed to walk, Lin Mu is filled with determination. Still, he knew that if he wanted to become a qi cultivator, he would need a lot of resources like herbs and fierce beast meat rich in vital energy. He could not hunt beasts which had rich vitality in the forest as he was not strong enough and would simply be courting death, he could trap smaller beasts but they will only fill his belly and would not be of much use in tempering his body.
"I guess I'll just have to make some traps and catch some small fierce beasts like the black-horned rabbits and thorn tailed rats and sell them in the town, they won't sell for much but I must start somewhere at least until I can save enough coins to buy a weapon strong enough to kill stronger beasts."
Lin Mu went in search of small animal trails where he could set up some traps. Upon finding one, he used the vines growing nearby and some slender and flexible trees to set up snare traps. Now he just had to wait until something is caught, feeling hungry again Lin Mu saw the position of the sun in the sky and felt that he had two hours until sunset, walking back to the apple tree he plucked a few more apples for his dinner as he doubted whether he would be able to catch anything in the traps and even if he did going to the forest at night time would be dangerous even though it was in the outskirts if a stronger fierce beast decide to wander off, it could mean his death, so he thought it would be better to just eat the apples again.
Walking back to the shack, he once again filled the pot with water, put the chunks of apples in them and set it on the stone stove to cook. While waiting for the apples to cook, Lin Mu decided to chant the calming heart sutra once again. He felt the feeling of calmness spreading through his body once again but did not feel the waves of energy that flowed through is muscle increasing, no matter how much he focused they stayed the same.
"Huh, I guess the calming heart sutra only helps if I have the necessary vital energy in my body, it only helped me break through because I had the surge of energy that was released from the ring in the morning, now that it's depleted I'll have to train and eat more food to slowly accumulate vital energy."
Thinking about the mysterious ring, he lifted his right hand to look more closely at the ring and its peculiar design. As Lin Mu focused on the ring he suddenly felt a force pulling his hand, shocked at this his right hand was pulled towards a direction forcing him to walk towards there until, Lin Mu's eyes went wide as his hand was pulled up in the air where then a rift opened and his hand was pulled in.
 

Lin Mu was a common boy living in a small town, ostracized by the townsmen because of a mistake he made during the harvest, his house seized to compensate for it. Forced to fend for himself in the outskirts, he finds a rusty ring embedded in the tree where he always used to play as a child.
