The Entertainment Center is like a nice home theater room, but instead of the crappy movie theater chairs, there are couches and recliners. Suki had selected to get a library of media to do with this room. I skipped the movies and web directly to the video games. It was nicely sorted so I found Mass Effect very quickly. The only problem is I only found Mass Effect 1. I looked around a bit more depth and found a lot of sequels we're missing. This is incredibly annoying, but I'm guessing all missing sequels correspond to potential future jumps. Seeing shelves full of shitty horror franchises has never made me so happy.

I set up Mass Effect on the big screen and brought Toph and Suki over to the couches to watch and play so they could get a better idea for where we're going. Even with it being the only thing we did for most of the day it still took a full week to play through the game. Mass Effect is a long game normally but add in that Suki and Toph have never seen a video game before and they asked questions about almost everything the beating the game took significantly longer.

"Wait that's it what happens next?" Toph asked

"There are two more games in the series. The second one isn't as important as the 3rd story-wise, because that's when the Reapers fully invade the galaxy."

"So we just appear somewhere as the game starts?" Suki asked

"No, we start 2 years before that in one of a handful of locations"

"So, we don't get to pick when and are only able to pick and a handful of where. What do we get to pick?" Toph asked with a bit of annoyance.

"We get to pick the who. What race we are, what background we have, our talents, abilities, and class" 

"Wait we get to pick race?" They both excitedly questioned.

"Um yeah..."

"I call Krogan! I'm going to be krogan"

"Toph..."

"Kroooooooogan" Fine Toph wants to be Krogan.

"Suki any idea what you want to be?"

"Ooh, I'm torn. I really like Asari, but Tali was super cool."

"This might help you make a decision. Quarians are very human-like under their suit. They're slightly paler with very dark black markings on their skin, but besides that and the 3 claw hands, they are basically human. Another thing you might want to consider is that Asari are all super old. If you get some of those memories they might change you, but if you don't get those memories you might have a hard time acting like someone who is 500 years old."

"That did help I'm going to be Quarian what about you Silva?"

"I'm going to be an AI"

"Like the Geth?" "Like the Reapers?"

"Yep like them" I confirmed ignoring their looks of uncertainty "So now that we've got a general idea of what we want let's do this. I say while pulling out the packet

"Okay, first things first is backgrounds. I'll be a drop in. That's the only real way for an AI to make sense"

"I'll be a Quarian scientist"

"Krogan soldier"

"Alright, next is location and we will be starting on Illium. It's an Asari controlled merchant planet. After that is race which we've already decided. Now it's time to pick perks. There are race and background perks. You can pick outside of what you chose to be, but it will be more expensive.
As an AI I will take the perk that lets me know when I'm being restricted, the perk that gives me a humanish robot body, and the perk that make me Reaper Tech."

"Umm... Alright, I'll go next I'll take the perk that lets me leave my suit without getting sick and the one that makes me a genius inventor."

"Now me. I'll take Redundant Nervous System? It lets me enter a blood rage and ignore pain. I will also take Okeer's test subject. Whatever that means."

"It's from..." I started to tell Toph but she cut me off.

"I don't care it sounds cool"

"Fine then next is background perks I'll take having a really nice sounding voice, becoming an expert pilot, proficiency in a 2nd class, and Specter training. Specter training gives me access to a third class, mastery over all of my classes, and improves all of my gear."

"I'll just take the free perks that make me prettier and smarter," Suki says with a bit of sass.

"I will take looking better as well, the perk that makes me more mentally adaptable, and I'll also take specter training even though I won't be getting a second class."

"For classes, I'll take all 3 of the biotic classes Adept, Sentinel, and Vanguard."

"I'll just take Sentinel. It might help me with techy stuff, but I also don't want to completely miss biotics."

"For me, it's going to be Vanguard a mix of pure combat and biotics. I'm really interested to see how I can mix biotics with earth bending. Oh, the rocks I'll be able to throw." I hadn't thought about that combo, but gravity control and earth bending seem to fit together unexpectedly well.

"Just two more parts. First is the actual stuff we can start with..."

"I'm done I'll just grab the free stuff. " Toph added immediately.

"Fine then you get a language translator chip and some casual clothes. We all get the language chip for free, Suki you also get a VI, and I get something called a Cipher. Which is somewhat vague but allows me to what shepherd did at the beginning of the first game without having my brain scrambled. It does other things but I'm not sure how far they extend. The final thing I'm going to get is a space station and I'm going to import my vault into it. Which will make it more like a research facility and make it more self-sufficient.

"Wait you said you can do the thing Shepard did? Well, then I'm going to get a beacon that should help. Maybe?"

"Thanks that sounds interesting, but now we have the bad part. We all broke our budget so we need to take drawbacks to bring us into the positives. I will take a personal assassin trying to interfere with me, facial scarring, difficulty sleeping, and the Reapers can now use any races for husks. Oh it looks like that last one applied to both of you as well, so neither of you needs to take any" 

"Sweet sounds good"

"Wait!" Suki exclaimed as she grabbed the packet. " Okay, I'm going to take another inconvenient assassin. Not that any assassin is convenient, but... Uhh. Right with those extra points I'm going to take two extra racial perks. First I'm going to take the Rachni perk that makes me physically and biotically stronger. Then I'm going to take the Drell perk which improves strength, speed, and acrobatics. With that alone, I'll be one of the strongest and fastest Quarians" 

"Oooh, that Rachni one sounds good. These drawbacks go away at the end of the jump right?"

"Yep"

"Fine, then it looks like I'll be taking a few more things. We now have a third assassin, I'll be having trouble sleeping, and will have some facial scars. Then I'll take the same two Suki did plus the free racial perk I skipped originally. It makes it so my scars are attractive to other people."

"Wow. Okay then is everyone sure about what they selected?" I asked. I saw them nod resolutely. "Then let's start."

Chapter 1

My story began when I turned eighteen. The age when you become a fully responsible adult in the eyes of the government.
Well, theoretically my story began even earlier. To be precise it began more than a hundred years ago and in a different reality. A reality where a series of games existed called Mass Effect. A game that became my new reality.

I never found out how or even why. In the end, I didn't care much about it.

At first, I even thought that I was just reborn into the future. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Humanity was still confined to the Sol-System and had colonies on Luna and Mars. There was nothing that screamed Mass Effect at me, it just looked and felt like the future.
But that changed from one day to the next, when it was announced that alien ruins had been found on Mars. They called these aliens Protheans.

I swear my heart stopped for a moment when I heard the news.
At that moment I was already 23 years old and came to terms with the whole being reborn long ago. But hearing that I wasn't just reborn but flung into a different reality was something else.
The first thing I did after the news was that I checked the internet for BioWare and Mass Effect.
I got dozens of hits for BioWare but none for Mass Effect.
Not. A. Single. One!
It seemed like they never had the idea for that series.
But there was something I would call a ray of hope, BioWare made a KotoR 3 and it was great! Just some information by the side.

But back to the situation at hand.

I knew what would be coming, the first contact war with the Turians, the whole trope of humanity becoming part of the Citadel, Cerberus and of course the Reapers and the galactic war with them.
While I looked out of the window of my apartment onto the skyline of London and the Thames I pondered what options I had.
I could do nothing and live my life to the fullest and hope that Shepard would do the right thing and destroy the Reapers or I could try to meddle with the future and prepare humanity and the rest of the galaxy as best as I could.

The means to do something meaningful were available to me. When my father died he left me his mining-company and the beginnings of a company centered around starship construction. I was fifteen at the time and couldn't take control of the company just yet. My mother died three years before him and I suspected he never really recovered from it. He wasn't a bad father, far from it, he did try, but he was broken inside. For me it was hard too, losing your mother is never easy even for someone who had already lived another life. It probably helped that I wasn't born aware of my old life so that I truly could form a connection with my new parents. The first memories came slowly when I was 8 years old and would continue for the next to years before I would understand that those weren't vivid dreams but memories of a previous life. And when mom died the shock released probably them all and I remembered fully.

After dad died I would concentrate on learning everything I could about business, economy and starship engineering. In my old life I already had a degree in business and economy so I wasn't that hard to (re-)learn it but starship engineering and engineering, in general, was something else. Especially, since there were a hundred years more to it than I knew of. Concepts and theories I had never heard of and scientist of my old life would never have thought of, yet.

But I was determined to make my dad's dream true. He had always spoken of how he would have loved to explore the stars and to see different planets. That was why he was branching out into starship construction.

I still remembered when I was six or seven and dad took me out into the wild for camping. We looked up into the night sky, away from any city and could see the stars. He had this faraway look in his eyes when he spoke to me. "Son", to this day I remember what he said with an impossible clarity "we humans have always wondered what is out there in the galaxy and now we're on the verge of finding out. I feel it deep in my heart. That's why I want to fly up there one day and just explore. Seeing new things, sights no human ever set sights on before. That is my dream and I hope you will find a dream of your own one day." I could only nod at his words and thought how cool my dad was.

After his death, I swore I would make his dream come true in his stead.

Officially, I took control over the companies when I turned eighteen but practically that happened two years later when I got my degree in business and economy.

Hey, don't think that took to long for one who was already practiced in it. I studied engineering with a focus on starships by the side which took me one more year to get my degree in.

For the next two years, after I took over and had to fire one or two of the executive part for embezzling, helped consolidate my position in the company, not gonna lie, I focused on expanding on our mining operations first. Processed resources were always something needed and in an age of space exploration in was even more needed. Especially when I wanted to build my own starships one day. To produce the materials needed for construction would make production cheaper and in the end, I could make more money with them even if sold cheaper than those of my rivals.
To that goal, I hired some scientists and engineers to invent equipment that would make mining easier, cheaper and faster.
It took them six months but they constructed VI-controlled drones that helped the workers immensely with breaking up the minerals in the soil and refining them into useable materials. It worked like a charm and my company saw exponential growth for the next two years and it didn't stop there because the team that created the drones continued to make them even better or finding new areas where and how those drones could be used. Furthermore, my mining company grew to the point that it encompassed 41% of all extraterrestrial mining operations and was still growing.
All the while the starship company slowly grew as well and the cheap materials allowed for experimentation with design.

But that was the furthest thing from my mind at the moment because I was still pondering the question of what I should do.

I could let the events of the games play out and hope for the best or I could do something. I wasn't sure what I could do. Supporting Shepard? That was a given but how should I do it? I didn't have any special abilities, biotics weren't even a thing yet, nor did a have a technological superior combat suit, moreover I wasn't even a soldier or even had the potential to be one. My Sister, in my previous life, was one and told me that I would never survive military life. Proud as I was I disagreed and she dared me to spend one week with her doing standard exercises.
Waking up at dawn, training, doing chores and more training. I barely survived the first day and at the end of the third, I truly hated her.
After the week, she told me that that wasn't even the hardest that she experienced and I couldn't fathom how I could survive an even harder regime. Pride shattered, I agreed with her that military life wasn't for me.

Thinking about my sister, let me smile. She had been six years older than me and had always watched over me. Every time I needed help or needed advice, I just had to ask. In this life, I was an orphan with no sibling that I could turn to, so I looked in the past to find an answer.
For the next ten minutes, I just looked out the window, reminiscing, interrupted only by sipping on my glass of Irish whiskey.

Then suddenly something my sister once said flew through my mind and the thought let me stand up on reflex.
A grin came over my face when I remembered her words.
"You know, if you even had only a half the interest in politics that you have in business, you could probably become president in less than twelve years. After all, you have a way with words, you probably could sell sand in the desert and make a killing with it."

At the time I just laughed and asked her if she would like to invest in my business but now, now her words truly struck something in me. A path opened up before me. A path that would lead me to the center of the action while away from the battlefields. A way to truly move something, to prepare for the Reapers, to make things better in the galaxy even after the Reapers were dealt with.

I knew what I wanted to do, what I wanted to be.

Neither Anderson nor Udina would stand in my way.

I would become the human councilor!

"Well, it seemed like I made my decision of what to do and I even had a goal to boot! Becoming the human councilor would let me have a direct influence on galactic politics and events.

But that would be far off into the future. If I remembered the timeline it would take something between 32 to 36 years before the events of Mass Effect happened, hell it would take a decade before the first contact war with the Turians.

That thought let me stop. I knew that in a few years the Turians would attack Shanxi and my knowledge could help prevent it but the question was, should I?

My foreknowledge could be interpreted as a kind of time travel, where the traveler tries to change events in the past to create a better future. But by using his knowledge of what is to come he could make these events happen in the first place or he changes the events and instead of a positive effect on the future it is even worse than before.

Still pondering the question I poured myself another glass of whiskey. Was it my second or already my third? I didn't know, thinking of monumental and history-altering decisions lets you ignore such minor things.

Taking a small sip, I cherished the light burning in my throat, reminding me that this was real and no fabrication of my mind. Well, maybe it was but was reality truly something different than a fabrication of our mind? It takes the information of our surroundings and interprets them, the result is what we call reality. Who can say that my previous life on earth in the 21st century was real and not just a bad dream of some kind of animal?

For me, the reality was the here and now, my reality was the beginnings of the Mass Effect universe. No, it wasn't just the Mass Effect universe, it was my Mass Effect universe. Who could say what the future would bring? Maybe my being here had already changed things irredeemably from the original timeline. Did ME even have an original timeline? Take a look at Shepard for example, he or she could be born on earth, on Mindoir or in space. Different places and probably different parents. And do not forget that Shepard could become the survivor of Akuze, the Butcher of Torfan or the Hero of Elysium. And that are all variables before the game even begins, I don't wanna even discuss the different classes that Shepard could be because that would mean differences in his/her training.

Another question was if I could even influence the coming events. The answer to that was a resounding no. I had no pull in any government and even if I had it would be useless because the System Alliance didn't exist yet. They would be founded in the coming years in response to the discovery of the Prothean ruins or was it because of the Charon Relay? No matter, I would wait and then start to make myself vital to the Alliance. They would be the key player in galactic politics for humanity and being a part of them would give me the chance to become councilor later on. Furthermore, they would be the military arm of humanity as well and it would do well to support them if we wanted to have a better chance at repelling the Reapers.

In the end, my decision on what to do was as simple as it was complicated. I would let things play out and deal with them as they come. No more worrying about deviating events or possible futures, no human being was made to control the future and anyone who thought differently was a fool. You could influence the possibility of a specific future but never dictate all details.

With that decision, my mind began to formulate a 'battleplan' for the immediate future. I would need a strong support base to truly change anything and just expanding my mining business wouldn't do the trick. That didn't mean I wouldn't expand in that sector, oh I definitely would expand there, materials would become even more valuable but I had to branch out. My still small starship company "Ad Astra" would be a key in the coming years. I would try to become the major supplier of space vessels for the Alliance, which would give me an entry in the political arena of the Alliance that I could later use as a stepping stone to the Citadel.

Another thing was that I could try to support the invention and development of technology apart from Element-Zero and mass effect, remembering the revelation that the mass relays and the citadel were built by the Reapers to control the development of galactic civilizations and guide them down a specific path. And what about the end of Mass Effect 3? Did the crucible render the mass relays unusable or could they still be used? I didn't know but I would work on the assumption that they would not. Hope for the best and be prepared for the worst. That was a good motto to hold onto.

What else could be done?

That question swirled through my mind and dozens of ideas came up, some dismissed but some held promise.
Weapons for example, not just small arms, no, weapons for ships, maybe even orbital defense like those in Halo. That was an interesting thought. Why try to think up everything from scratch when hundreds of fictional ideas could work? After all, something was just so long fiction until somebody brought it into reality. Mass Effect was something fictional before and now it was real, at least to me.

The rough outline of my plan for the next ten years was done. I would expand my mining business, "Ad Astra" and branch out into weapon development and other technological avenues.
Moreover, I would try to become a key player in the Alliance itself, it would be easier while it was still young and not recognized as the power it would become.

I smiled as my gaze wandered over the skyline of London at night.
My glass raised to a toast I remembered the old Chinese curse.
"May we live in interesting times."

I hope you liked the first chapter of 'Intersting Times'.
As you could read it is an SI/OC story but I hope somewhat different from the normal ones.
Most SI-stories that I read about where about how someone tries to change the galaxy as
a member of Shepards team, an SI that changes the canon as a soldier with a weapon in hand.
Don't get me wrong there are some pretty good ones but I wanted to do something uncommon.
I love those ME-fics that have a different humanity and the politics that happen in them, the interaction between
characters that have political power is something that I find interesting and I wanted to do something like that.
For example the interactions between the Council and the Wardens of the Mantle in evevee's Halo/ME-fic 'On the Illusion of Might' is something I truly enjoy.

Well, enough about that.

After finalizing the rough research and development plan for the new cell phone, Chang You called the person-in-charge of Deposit Fitness, Guo Licheng, and the person-in-charge of Shang Yang Games, Wang Xiaobin, respectively. He asked them to come to Otto Technologies to discuss the smart fitness drying rack.
Initially, Ye Zhizhou had been in charge of Shang Yang Games when it was developing new games. However, Ye Zhizhou had gone to Los Angeles for a business trip and had just ended his break. What's more, he had to make a trip to Los Angeles to take a break. Thus, Wang Xiaobin was temporarily in charge of the research and development of Shang Yang Games.
This smart fitness drying rack sounded a little ridiculous but Chang You did not dare to neglect it.
It was a key job that Boss Pei had personally instructed him after all. What's more, it was a joint operation of three key departments. This might affect Boss Pei's future industrial layout. He might be blamed if it was not done well.
The competition between the various departments was so intense now. Chang You did not want Otto Technologies to drag him down since he would lose face as the person-in-charge.

Guo Licheng and Wang Xiaobin arrived in the afternoon.
Chang You led the two of them to the guest room and briefly explained Boss Pei's instructions about the smart fitness drying rack.
Guo Licheng and Wang Xiaobin looked at each other and saw confusion in each other's eyes.
What kind of bewitching product was this?
A drying rack with fitness function?
They even had to customise a game?
It would still make sense if this was a lame and funny product. He could just produce a few of them for users who liked to play with them. It would be just looking for money if it made lame news.
However, Boss Pei seemed to be taking this very seriously!
In other words, this drying rack was to be a legitimate commercial product? He wanted it to be mass-produced?
He had to think about how to earn money since it was to be mass-produced. Otherwise, he would lose a lot of face if the three departments were to produce a product together but incur losses!
Chang You looked at Guo Licheng and said, "Coach Guo, you're a professional at fitness. It is still a fitness product at the end of the day even though it requires Shang Yang Games and our participation. Why don't you tell us your opinion first?"
Guo Licheng used his thick arm to support his chin. The way the big, muscular man pondered was a little comical, but his expression was serious.
"In fact, the 'drying rack' is a relatively common meme in the field of fitness. Whether it's a treadmill, a spinning bicycle, an elliptical, or a bench press, any fitness equipment placed at home would often be unable to escape the fate of becoming a drying rack."

The concept was too vague and Boss Pei had not mentioned any details about the design. Thus, Chang You found it difficult to imagine the actual shape of the product.
Guo Licheng was a professional fitness trainer. He had used all sorts of fitness equipment and was very knowledgeable about fitness. He should be able to figure out the key ingredients from these messy functions and needs.
Guo Licheng continued to think seriously. "Boss Pei has already made it clear that the use of this smart fitness drying rack is mainly at home. In other words, it's targeted at individual consumers, not commercial gyms…"
Wang Xiaobin said, "Eh, Coach Guo, that might not be the case."
Shang Yang Games was the same as the other departments. They had all been given a mandatory fitness limit. Wang Xiaobin had to set an example as the person-in-charge. Thus, he had his own understanding of fitness.
Guo Licheng did not think that Wang Xiaobin was not as professional as him in terms of fitness. Instead, he asked seriously, "What do you mean?"
Wang Xiaobin thought for a moment and said, "I think Boss Pei's thinking should be both. However, the priority is different."
"As a fitness equipment, the commercial gym must be one of our target customers. However, the equipment changes in the commercial gym are very slow. What's more, the market share of those large brands' fitness equipment is very difficult to shake. If we wanted to sell our fitness equipment to the commercial gym from the beginning, we would definitely encounter huge difficulties and resistance."

Even as The Candy Man's axe came swinging down, The Perfect Cognivore suddenly detached from his tail, and barreled into BLANK's secret boss. The Perfect Cognivore dug his clawed hands into the enemy's gumdrop armor, and at point blank released all eight of his harpoons. That close, and with the pressure driving them forward, they broke into the gingerbread cookie body of the secret boss and latched on tight.

The Perfect Cognivore used his massive, powerful steampunk legs, and the momentum of the moment, to shove his trapped foe and himself past the muffin mines and closer to The Muffin Man. All the while, James's Secret boss continued to glow brighter. That was, of course, something James was used to. After all, the core within the Terminus normally detonated.

However, the Perfect Cognivore's version was a bit more…destructive. When the Terminus detonated, it was after he died, with the core just becoming unstable and erupting. Now, the Perfect Cognivore was purposefully overloading his own nuclear reactor, preparing it for eruption. As the energy continued to grow within James's secret boss, James could see the armor plating around the Perfect Cognivore actually closing in on the boss, condensing inward, to create a pressurized chamber for the reactor. Now not only was there going to be a nuclear blast, but it was going to be amplified 10-fold from what James had previously seen.

A split second later, the light, which had been momentarily hidden as The Perfect Cognivore's armor completely closed in and encompassed it, leaked out from his form. The metal plating cover James's Secret Boss glowed brightly from the heat, and James watched as the Perfect Cognivore's face took on a cruel grin.

"Lights out chap." The Perfect Cognivore said, just before he erupted in a massive nuclear explosion. James looked away just in time to avoid starring directly into the bright flash of light, though even with his orb turned away from the explosion, and his giant eyeball closed and covered by his tentacles, it was as if he could see clearly. So bright was the explosion, that he would have believed he were staring into the sun. He waited, counting, for 10 seconds, before the light finally faded.

As it did, James willed himself to turn back around, and take in the battlefield. Where the Secret Bosses had battled, nothing remained. Instead, a massive crater had formed, blackened and scorches, and almost seeming to have turned, in some parts, into a glass like substance. Looking down into the crater, James realized that his assessment that nothing remained, had been wrong.

In the very center, a mass of glowing, radiating, molten metal seemed to rest. It pulsed with unnatural light, and James could feel his vision blurring as his eyeball burned just from looking at it.

He had heard of a similar such substance that had existed in the real world, created from the devastating nuclear accident at Chernobyl. A mass of a substance known as corium, which was created during the nuclear meltdown. It had been named The Elephants foot, and was a mass of extremely hot, extremely dangerous and radioactive material, that existed and remained deadly for over 50 years after the accident.

Now, DCO was a video game world, meaning normally things like radiation poisoning wouldn't be a thing. So, in theory, players would be able to likely get close to that mass of remaining molten material in the center of that crater, if they wanted to. Of course, DCO also wasn't a normal game. And James had not only unlocked radiation for his disease menu, courtesy ironically, of BLANKs players and his M.I.N.E. Craft, but had played around with it quite a bit.

Something that James was really hoping he would get to see soon. Movement along the edge of his vision, was saying he was going to get a good view of it, sooner rather than later.

"Look at that Rue." He whispered, motioning towards the fog of war. His players had already begun running back towards his spawn area the moment the Perfect Cognivore had begun glowing. And by running, James meant they had full on sprinted, atop their dicken mounts, away from the battlefield. However, James had been hoping some of BLANKs players would stick around to watch the fight. After all, only a few of them had seen what happened when the Terminus was defeated.

Sure enough, as James watched the fog of war, he saw a handful of BLANK players stumble out. They were waving their hands about wildly as a sickly, irradiated glow encompassed their bodies. Their status bars showed that they were currently blinded, deafened, dazed, and irradiated.

The first three statuses were a deadly combination, if there were any enemy players around. However, it was the final one, that was actually going to be their downfall. Especially if the unlocked portions of his disease menu did exactly what he thought they would.

Antimagical Resistance (5disease points (DP))- This disease has an increased chance to resist being cleansed, dependent on the amount of magical healing a player has received. For every magical spell applied to a player, the disease has an additional 1x (DP) chance to resist being cleansed.

Proximity Illness (4DP)- This disease has an increased chance to spread to players nearby. This illness has a 5xDP percent chance to spread to players within 5xDP feet of a player. The disease will attempt to effect players in proximity once every minute, until a player either dies, or is cleansed

Unique Effects

Radiation (1 radiation point)

Mutation level 1 (5DP)- Players will undergo a random mutation within 30 seconds of being exposed to radiation. Additional mutations will be applied every 10 minutes, unless a player is cleansed.

Mutation level 2 (10DP)- Players who undergo mutations will lose complete control over themselves. Until they die, or are healed, they will be treated as a drunk character, resulting in their temporary inability to control their character.

In essence, James had figured, as he dumped all 24 of his disease points into crafting this disease, and his single radiation point to even use this tree, that he would be able to create a disease that could turn BLANKs players against themselves. In DCO, and actually many immersion games, whenever a player became so drunk that they would normally become extremely sick or 'black out' they were instead returned to their own waiting area. From there, individuals were welcome to play other games, relax, or in Manly The Dwarf's instance, learn the lore of the game.

Once the detrimental effect had run its course, players would receive a notification allowing them to hop right on back into whatever game they had been playing. Seeing that he could essentially apply that effect to BLANKs players with his irradiated disease, well, it was a no brainer. Even if it had cost him 10 of his 24 disease points to do. James had no idea what the mutations would be, but if his steampunk dino mobs' mutations were anything to go off of, James was about to see an extremely interesting battle take place.

James had also taken care to confirm with Rue he was reading the disease menu correctly, before he even applied this tactic to the battlefield. Because obviously, while irradiating BLANKs forces, causing them to mutate and lose control of themselves sounded great, he had been worried about it effecting his players. However, according to the disease menu, effects of diseases would only be applied to enemies of his dungeon. Which, theoretically, in the case of dungeon wars and the fields of battle, meant BLANKs forces, not James's. Huzzah loopholes. Granted, if James had access to a disease menu, there was a chance BLANK did as well. However, James figured there was no way BLANK would have access to something as neat as radiation.

What was the worst BLANK could do? Create a disease that put James's players in a sugar coma? That was laughable, especially as James watched one of BLANK's player's eyes roll back in his head, as another head sprouted from his torso. Yup, that player was definitely no longer in control. A split second later, an adventurer dual wielding daggers grew two additional arms from outside of his back. Two more mutated as well, one growing an additional leg, the other having his body seem to grow larger and more muscular. At the same time, all of their eyes turned completely white, and their cries of confusion and anger turned into animalistic moans.

Achievement Unlocked

Even as James went to click on the achievement, he watched one last player stumble out of the fog of war. His eyes rolled back in his head, and James watched as the glow around his body seemed to flash. A moment later, his flesh went from glowing yet healthy, to rotten and saggy. His mouth gaped open, as he turned back towards the fog of war. Instead of an inaudible moan, he let out a single, long drawn out word.

"Braaaaaaiiiiinnnnnnnnsssssss."

Oh, this had to be good.

James hates his real life. He spends his days being bullied in school, and at home he simply reads and plays games. The only thing he has to look forward to is immersion. As the three-dimensional image of the Eye of the Thunder levitated on the screens in front of everyone, the male auctioneer, dressed in white casual attire and possessing an energetic vibe, started to describe it.
"Unique attribute: bullets fired have a 15% chance of having an electrical effect, causing an additional 1500 points of electrical damage!"
"Of course, this is a Perfect-evaluated attribute of the Eye of the Thunder. But even for the Standard-evaluated Eye of the Thunder, the rate of effect of its rare attribute is nonetheless as high as 10%!"
The male auctioneer continuously describing the various strengths and attribute qualities of the Eye of the Thunder, attempting to "heat up" the auction.

One, it was entirely nonsensical to say that one Eye of the Thunder had a 10% rate, and so 10 rifles would have a 100% rate of triggering the rare attribute.
Two, during PK, the situation of 10 Eye of the Thunders being fired once was totally implausible. Even if the target was a 1000 HP Heavy Armored Warrior, there was no chance he would survive being hit 10 times consecutively by the Eye of the Thunder. There was completely no need to trigger the rare attribute!
Moreover, the "electric shock" effect of the Eye of the Thunder was dependent on the situation. When faced with non-humanoid monsters, larger bodies would take less damage.
Feng Luo had tried before, using the Eye of the Thunder to hit a Level 40 Elite single-horned mutant rhino with a weight of more than a ton; when the electric shock damage was triggered, that mutant rhino's movement hadn't been affected at all. The creature was enraged nonetheless, and it wacked several Bladed Beetles and sent them flying.
"F*ck, a sniper rifle with the rare attribute of a controlling effect; if I was really aimed at by 10 of those, I'd die while I was still trying to get away!" Big Pineapple mumbled as he stared at the auction.

Beam after beam of red-black light flew from his fingertips, each one piercing a [Machine Mutant]s metal body. What followed, where a series of explosions above [Planet M-2]s capital city. Pieces of metal began to fall upon the city's landscape, while the people watched on from whatever shelter they could find. After a few minutes, Arlic ceased his attack, as all enemies had been destroyed. At least, that's what he thought. A large shadow fell upon the city, noticing this he looked upward. What he saw made him realize something important. "I really don't have any luck with aircraft, do I?" That was what was flying straight at him, an airplane of some kind.
His eye twitching, Arlic sighed. The aircraft was at least the size of three large blimps put together, and it was currently approaching him from the outer atmosphere. Arlic could tell that it didn't belong to this world, so he couldn't help but wonder where this spacecraft had come from. Shaking his head at the enemy's attempt to kill him, Arlic sent a call over his [Scouter]. "Rasin!" Responding quickly, Rasin spoke. "Yes, Lord Arlic?" Peering at the incoming craft, Arlic gave Rasin an order. "I sense [Ki Signature]s aboard the incoming craft, lock on to any life signs and initiate a mass teleport. Move them to a secure area aboard [The Sanctuary] and begin questioning them." Arlic continued to observe his surroundings in case this was a trap.
Sensing the incoming ships [Ki Signature]s disappear, Rasin contacted him. "It is done, my lord!" Nodding his head, Arlic turned his attention to the falling craft which was about three miles from reaching him. Flickering, he disappeared, reappearing on the ground below. Taking a deep breathe, Arlic began to gather his energy. He was going to destroy it, to do that he would have to put some oomph behind his next attack. Indeed, ships like this one were designed to be sturdy, it might even have a shield. If Arlic wanted to destroy it completely, he would have to use more power than ever before.
Placing both palms together almost as if he was praying, Arlic's eyes never left his target. His palms parting, a small white ball of energy formed between them. Soon after, Arlic moved both palms' forward. The small ball of energy shot forward, black and red energy began to swirl around it. Reaching the aircraft, the ball of energy had grown to the size of Cooler's [Supernova]. The impact vaporized the craft in a flash of blinding red light. Seeing this, Arlic shook his head. The power wasn't near what it should be. He called this technique the [Colossal Nova], and it was not yet complete. Looking around, Arlic began to search for any remaining enemies.

Authors Note: Hey folks, sorry for the short chapter. Not feeling all that great, this was the best I could do this time around. Next update should be on Saturday the 23rd. Also wanted to let you know, the fanfic has changed to a [DC] fanfic. I originally had 5 different fanfics planned. I still want to write them all. That said, a friend of mine reminded me that both [Mass Effect] and [Elder Scrolls], (both of which I was going to do a fanfic on), have new games coming up. I will wait until I now more about those games to begin on them. The majority of the research I needed for the [DC] fanfic has already been completed, so it should have its first chapter in a few weeks if not sooner. A [Marvel] fanfic will also be in the works for later in the year. It will feature the same MC, just in a different multiverse. If Yun Yi had not come here too, she would have preferred not to be in such a place. To her, the shooting games and whatnot here were a little childish.
The storms of bullets and shells that she had been through in her past life did not lack in comparison to the scenes available in the simulation game machine.
"I'm back!" Xu Haozhe ran back from the counter holding a big pile of game tokens. He then distributed them to everyone.
There were a lot of people gathered in front of the simulation shooting machine as it was the venue's newest addition. Even the gun controller was similar in weight to a real gun. Although the player would only shoot at the huge screen, the effect was quite like shooting a real gun.
Students of this era were eager to give it a try, thus there were masses of people both watching and playing the game.
"Hah, looks like we'll have to wait for a bit. There are too many of them waiting to play!" Xu Haozhe said, stroking his head.
Guns and cars were always the boys' preference, but girls were different. Other than Yun Jian, the other girls from their group had gone to play different arcade games together, those that appealed to young girls like claw machines.
Simultaneously, a band of youths exclaimed boisterously in front of the simulation shooting machine.
Standing at the front of the game was a young man in his twenties. He put down the pistol controller wearing a victorious smirk.
The shooting game was played by aiming and shooting the targets on screen with the gun controller.
Without a doubt, the controller had no bullets. It only provided a visual effect of hitting the target on the screen. Nonetheless, discounting the fact that it contained no ammunition, the gun controller's feel and grip were akin to the real weapon.
Therefore, the launch of this machine instantly attracted the attention and welcoming of flocks of youths who liked guns.
"Wow, Bro Lei is amazing. It does make a difference that you've held a real pistol before. You struck thirty-two targets in a minute!" A guy who stood not too far away sang praises to the guy holding the gun controller.
It was as if they were worried that other people wouldn't know that this young man in his twenties had held a genuine gun!
As expected, the crowd exclaimed and gasped when they heard the revelation.
Bro Lei was incredibly flattered, thinking he was superior.
"It's nothing. You guys have never held a real gun. The real deal is still different from this toy!" Brother Lei crowed, tipping his chin so high that his nose was going to point above his eye level.
"Are you guys done? Can you move if you are?" Xu Haozhe stepped forward and asked when he saw the group not moving away nor continuing to play after the round.
Brother Lei who was still bathing in the crowd's adoration and applause glared at Xu Haozhe at once.
"Where the f*ck did you come from, you bastard child? How dare you fight for the game with me?" Brother Lei clenched his fists and bumped them together in a challenging manner. There was a swagger in his provocation, reflecting how conceited he felt.
It was as if he was saying "I'll beat you up if you say another word".
Xu Haozhe opened his mouth to retort. He had just asked a question, yet the other party was beginning to shout at him angrily. However, Yun Jian spoke faster than him, while mercilessly stepping on the other party's pride. "Hitting only thirty-two targets in one minute, your shooting stance is flashy but garish. You should move!"
The mass was astonished by Yun Jian's harsh critique that hit every pretentious spot of Brother Lei.
The latter looked enraged.

Dean looked at the giant words in aw. God's Playgrounds was truly worthy of being called era defining. While technology has constantly been improving especially after the third world war, all previous generation games could only be described as trash from just this small part alone. No game could induce a certain reaction onto the players, no matter how realistic the games were they could never make the players feel like they were a part of the world. No matter how immersive it seemed, there was always a small part of the mind saying to them it wasn't real.

But Dean could clearly sense the difference between God's Playgrounds and other games. Just standing and looking at the words made him feel as if he was in front of God's Domain. And taking a step forward will lead him to reincarnate in a new world and being.

After an unknown amount of time, Dean was able to snap out of his trance. Taking a step forward, his surroundings changed as a wide variety of different species appeared around him. There were humans, demons, skeletons, angels, and much more.

"Hello Dean Sky, thank you for playing God's Playgrounds." A panel appeared in front of Dean which was read out by a mechanical voice.

" Please click the button in front of you to draw out your randomly given talent. Don't worry if you get a bad talent as everyone gets an additional draw chance." A new panel appeared with a large button with the big word Draw.

' So far this seems simple enough.' Dean thought as he clicked on the button. Just as he let go of the button a long list of talents appeared scrolled at a speed so fast that you couldn't read them.

' It could also be because the programmers were too lazy to actually list them all and just wrote gibberish.' Dean smiles as he thinks about the silliness of the situation.

*Ding*

After what seemed like a couple of seconds past a ding sounded. As the sound came the list of talents disappeared and a new blue panel appeared in front of Dean.

" Congratulations Dean Sky, you are the 600th person to draw a calamity grade!"

" You have drawn the Talent called Twin Body and soul!" The neutral mechanical voice said with a tint of excitement in its voice.

With the big reveal, along with the panels countless fireworks and confetti exploded around him. Dean was shocked but tried his best to calm down so as to not mess up his hair.

However he couldn't help but scream the words "F**k yeah! My lucky hands have never let me down!"

" I'm going to dominate and be the king of this game!"

Ignoring Dean's screaming the mechanical voice continued " Some advice for the user. Do not reveal your talent as it will allow for you to lose your talent in certain situations."

After hearing the voice say that he had to hide his talent, Dean forcefully stopped Dean from the middle of his delusions. " Then what's the damn point in having this talent if I can't show off to everyone then!"

" Fine, whatever, I guess that I'll be the king and dominator of the land in silence then." Dean stubbornly insisted even though he hated the idea of not being able to show off strength.

After calming down, Dean looked at the blue panel with the description of his Talent. Twin Body and Soul allows the owner of this talent to have and use two different characters at the same time.

"Wow, does that mean that I'll be the only person to have two accounts? This ability does seem to Worthy of its rank."

The blue panels disappeared while a black shadow appeared in front of Dean. The figure had the golden words Character Creation above its head.

Noticing the character model, Dean first went around to choose his race. After taking a look at the various different races, none of them drew his attention other than the demon and ooze race.

" I wish that I could combine them to make a new species worthy of my excellence. Sigh!" As if hearing Dean distress a new button appeared next to the character model.

Dean noticing the new button took a look at it. Above the button were big flashing golden titles called Race Fusion. There also seemed to be the faint sounds of angels singing. In very small texts was the number 10,000.

" What the F**k! It costs 10,000 dollars to use race fusion." While Dean was complaining at how corrupt and money loving the game designer was, his hands on the other hand clicked on the button.

After selecting the demon race and ooze race for fusion. The character model shifted and turned into a black whirlpool that sucked the two models of the races. After several odd clanking noises rang the whirlpool spite out a new race.

Demonic Ooze! A fusion of the demon race and the Ooze race created a new frightening monster.

Dean reading the brief description of the race nodded before looking at the stats and abilities.

Strength: 6
Dexterity: 5
Mobility: 9
Defense:3
Magic: 3
Spirit: 8

Dean looked at it with satisfaction. While it stats weren't the best it was it's abilities that truly made this race a monster

Abilities:

Morph: The ability to change shapes and sizes as long as the required mass has been achieved. Special effects are that health is based on mass.

Dissolve: The ability to break down items and equipment for experience or additional mass. Due to the ability Frighten, Dissolve can now break down monsters and players as long as they are under the effect of super suppression.

Frighten: The ability to suppress other players and monsters that are your enemies giving them small status debuffs. Under the condition of the player being 10 levels higher than target it activated super suppression.

Quickly locking in on the Demonic Ooze race he customized the appearance to look as cool and as demonic as he could.

Next it was time to create his second avatar. Dean. after some thoughts decided to go with the exact opposite appearance of his previous  character.

Clicking on the glowing fusion button he selected the Angel race and after thinking for a while choose a strange race called War Spirits. After the character model turned into a black whirlpool the expected clank was replaced a sizzling sound.

" Sorry user but the fusion has failed. Please try again." The cold mechanical voice that had disappeared previously spoke to rain on his parade.

" Shit! Those game designers really are greedy! They dared adding a failure rate when I spent over 10 grand!" Dean yelled at the non intelligent voice with a gloomy face.

After spending another 10 grand Dean was able to hear the sounds of success this time. Taking a look at the new character looked at it with shock written on his face.

" Why did the fusion make it so ugly?" Dean questioned when he saw the new race character named Spirit Angel. Rather than saying that it was ugly it was like it lacked a face in the first.

Dean, looking at its excellent stats , decided that he was going to use this race and he had to put in some extensive modifications.



On new years day of the year 2080. An announcement was played in every country in the world.

" It has been 2 decades since WW3 and we are here to say that the world has finally recovered from the great tragedy."

" We the Government of 

The United Nations of the Americas,

European Unions,

The Nations of Africa,

The Asia Alliance,

, and Australia is here to announce that we, with the other countries of the world, have come together to create a revolutionary New VR Game called God's Playgrounds!"

"Starting tomorrow stasis pods will become available for purchase. And government-provided pods will come out in 1 months time!"

" God's Playgrounds will be activated in 1 week!"
