Pasensya na pero, hindi na muli magpapaloko ang babaeng ito!


It's now Ciri's turn to try animate her statue, after the disastrous results of Reima's creation she was determined not to have it start flirting with her or starting fighting things..."Animatis" she chants, causing the statues to stumble backwards before stand upright and awaiting her commands. Seeing this the other Examiners nod in approval.
Meredith "Nicely done. Now, I'd like you both to make these fire-resistant." she says gesturing towards the statues who are now looking towards her...
As this came under charms Ciri quickly cast the Flame-freezing charm "Incendi" soon followed by Reima who casts the same spell on his own statue.

After they'd cast the spells Trumpus grins and shoots a slightly too powerful "Incendio" at it, hoping that they'd be burned to a crisp so he could fail them for something. The fire evenlopes the wooden statues before fading away, revealing them to be completely unharmed...
Meredith scowls, "Trumpus! This is not proper procedure, if you do not wish to adjudicate seriously then leave!"
Trumpus "Apologies Mrs Pontshrub, I was too eager to test their spells and may have lost myself... Please continue."
The elderly woman gives him one last warning glare before turning back to the duo who were watching the events passively. "While proper procedure was not followed your spells held up and protected the statues against Trumpus spell, well done." after saying this she levitates the two animated statues onto the floor below them and asks, "Now, I would like for both of you to destroy these in any manner you see necessary."

Reima "Any requirements?" he asks, unsure what she wants from them."
Meredith "None at all."
Shrugging Reima casts "Evanesco" causing the statue of Nerissa to fade away, as if it hadn't existed in the first place.
Ciri's brows furrow when she sees what Reima had done, know that she wasn't able to use that spell yet... Instead she leans her staff at the statue and casts "Reducto" she says causing a blue bolt to shoot at the statue, that on impact causes it to explode into a fine dust, leaving only smoke in it's wake.
Meredith and Edmund look satisfied at the results, quietly commenting to each to other about the methods the duo had used. Most obviously praising Reima for his high level in Transfiguration.
Meredith "Well, that's everything... Unless you have anything else to show us? Any unique skills that were not included in the test?" she asks giving an appraising look to the duo.
Reima nods, "Would casting the Patronus charm help my placing?" he asks.
Meredith "Of course, such a charm is incredibly difficult to cast, even some Auror's find it difficult to use. Being able to cast it at your age would be an impressive talent indeed."
Reima nods, "Ok..." he says before closing his eyes and going through his own memories to find the happiest one of all. It's actually pretty difficult even with his Occlumency to sort which of his memories are the most happy, this is due to other emotions like lust, greed, gluttony and even love not actually contributing to the spell at all. Taking this into account, most of his memories wouldn't even power a incorporeal Patronus due to them being marred in greed, lust or love. Therefore he has to delve deeper into his memories to find a suitable one, his time in Harry Potter? Too much lust, Dark Souls? Not good enough, Absolver? Too many other emotions... Eventually he's reached his time in the Witcher world, what he'd experienced while travelling, most of it isn't happy... This continues until he reaches Kaer Morhen, receiving his silver sword from Geralt was a good memory, however he still didn't think it was good enough. Eventually he finds himself sitting atop his favorite balcony overlooking the courtyard of Kaer Morhen, Geralt silently meditating next to him while they're surrounded by candles.

"Expecto Patronum!" he exclaims, causing a bright light to erupt from the top of his staff, blinding everyone in the room and sending out a pulse of sheer joy that quickly envelopes the castle.

Elsewhere in the Headmasters office :
Dumbledore had just finished completing the final preparations for Durmstrangs arrival, why they wished to sail here and not simply use the train escapes him as he makes an exception for them regarding the wards. Suddenly Fawkes chirps loudly as a walls of sheer joy explodes through his office, not physically doing anything but making him simply feel happy, he gets up and looks out the window towards where they could have come from but doesn't see anyone from his vantage point. He can only assume it's those transfer students as their placement exams should have started around now... Again, he isn't surprised that they were able to cast such strong spells, simply by looking at the aura they had exuded in the great hall he could tell they were exceptionally powerful. Although it did make him at ease that they were capable of casting the Patronus charm as most Dark Wizards were incapable of such a feat.

Around the school a similar phenomenon was seen, the walls of joy causing all of the students and teachers to perk up and become more determined, studious and all in all, happy. Only a few students actually knew what had happened and one Harry Potter could already guess who was responsible...

Most people who die and are confronted with a godlike being like to take the easy route... Not this guy.

Linri was having breakfast in the cafeteria. He was thinking about yesterday's events. Should he really say sorry to Jaime? It seemed like the correct course of action. If he said sorry he was sure that Jaime would forgive him and their relationship would return the way it was. The old Max would have done this but he was not Max, he was Linri and he didn't want to do it. At least in this world, he didn't need 'shields'. He needed real friends and if he said sorry their friendship would only be at the surface level. Because Linri really did not think that he was really in the wrong this time. Did she really not understand him or was she just ignoring his intentions out of convenience?
"So what was the deal yesterday?" Kris asked as he sat in front of him with a tray in hand.
"What was the deal with what?" Linri feigned ignorance.
"The thing that happened with Jaime? I thought you guys were pretty close. Come on, you can let out all your troubles to this big brother of yours. I have lots of experience with ladies" Kris asked smugly. Linri really wanted to punch him in the face right now. Actually, he noticed that these days he was getting more and more violent. It shouldn't be that much of an issue since the OG Linri had gone through the same thing, this must be the result of his bloodline awakening. He was becoming more animalistic. He even looked the part. His canine teeth were too long and poking out of his lips and his hair was pointy and scruffy. If you let him out in a forest most people would think he was a savage, if they can get past his charming looks that is.
"Okay here is the TLDR. She likes me, I like her, she wants to date me, I don't want to date her, she feels angry that I don't tell her stuff, I don't want to tell her stuff. Simple enough for you?" Linri said as he took a huge bite out of his toast. It was really tasty and if he could just find marmelide it would have been perfect.
"Wait, wait. One thing at a time. So if you like her why don't you want to date her?" Kris asked seriously. Linri didn't want to admit it but he really had that big brother vibe going right now. He looked more truthworthy all of a sudden. Where did the original lame Gendor go? Was he messing with him?
"It's because I am engaged back in our own world and I don't want to cheat on her" Linri explained after some internal conflict.
"That's not really much of a reason now is it? I bet 'he' is already all over her. So why don't you do the same to 'him'. Isn't Jaime supposed to be 'his' girlfriend?" Linri clenched the fork in his hand so hard that veins were popping out of them.
"Kris, if you don't want to die an agonizing death be careful of what you say, okay?" Linri was smiling but he really wasn't smiling. His wild aura was leaking out.
"Why? You don't like others touching your possessions or do you really like her that much?" Kris asked. He wasn't one bit intimidated by Linri. 
Linri, on the other hand, donned a complicated expression. He didn't know how to answer him.
"Well, I can't say that I hate others taking my thing but I can't say that I love her either. It's complicated. I don't think I love her but at the same time, I can't let others have her" Linri wasn't even sure why he said these things. Usually, he would just close up all this stuff deep in his heart. Why was he so talkative today anyway?
"Again, doesn't that mean you love her?" Kris asked while starting to peel a hard-boiled egg.
"No, I am pretty sure it's not that. She is just special to me. I just want to pay her back whatever the cost. That's why I even started dating her anyway" 
"Dude, have you heard this saying; a man's heart is as vast as the ocean while a woman's is as narrow as a needle. It means that we can have multiple people we love at the same time while a woman can only love a single person. So why not just go for Jaime. You know, she was our club's little sister I wouldn't really give her to anyone" said Kris while putting his hand over Linri's shoulder. That was when Jaime walked past them but she didn't even look at them.
Goddammit, why did relationships had to be so hard? Can't you just let him have peace and scheme in the background? Curse you OG Linri!! 
Linri put his hand over Kris' and looked at him with stars in his eyes. This was a true bro moment.

"Asshole! I don't even get what she sees in you!" Kris shouted while rubbing his hand. This guy was really hard to talk to. Why did he have to get so violent all of a sudden? Isn't creating a harem should be every man's dream? Even if you don't like the idea you don't have to crush my bones okay!
The morning class started just like normal. Today, their first lesson was English Literature with Mr Hawke. It really didn't fit his image to talk about classics like Romeo and Juliet. He looked like such a scruffy guy who wouldn't even know the meaning of love but he was explaining it in such a passion that you would think he was Romeo himself. The problem was the content of the lesson was too low-levelled for Linri. He had graduated from college for god's sake. Let me see you write a whole research paper about Robinson Crusoe and how he was the embodiment of the idea of capitalism and then talk to me about English Literature.
Once the class was over Linri did not know what to do. He didn't want to talk to anyone and he didn't want to go outside either. So he just sat on the desk and looked at his stats. He was updating his own information and even found some useful functions he hadn't noticed before. Like, this little thing could actually quantify his health and prana along with his stamina. It was really neat. Though that would make this world more and more like a game for him so he really wasn't sure if it was that good for his psyche.

IceArmament: Ability to create weapons and armor out of ice. They are stronger than normal weapons so the weapons deal [1.5 x Above-average Strength] of damage with each strike. If the user possesses [1.5 x Above-average Strength] the damage raises to [2 x Exceptional Strength]. The weapons can be handed to others. Weighing her choices, which way can benefit her more or something. I gave her the best choice on a silver platter. What more can she want?

" Darren is so devoted yet Luke never acknowledges his efforts. Did you know how hard it was? To see Darren love Luke so much, for him to be treated like a ragdoll. " Are you mocking me? " she asked in high pitch. 

" I'm trying to warn you. Humans will always covet what they're not allowed to have. Trying to break the relationship of the person they like. But did you stop to ask, what rat-faced actually feel? On what basis did that flogged brain of yours use to say such a thing? Observation? Or just hate-driven assumptions caused by your own envy? " 

Her lips trembled as she clenches her teeth. She bit on her lower lip, a little hard for a spot of blood to seeps out. 

" You don't know anything. " she seethed. 

" Actually, I do. " Through the string of course, but those daydreams will stay as dreams. I won't let it happened. I won't let you break their relationship. Not on my watch. 

 I stretch my right palm, pointing at her chest. 

" Where's the ring? " I asked, raising my eyebrows. 

" I don't - " 

" Spare me the lies, where is it? " I demanded. 

Her nose flared. With a defiant look, she cast her eyes on her shoulder bag, taking the chain necklace out with the ring. I sighed in relief. Retrieved at last. She let it slid in my palm. Removing the chain, I held the ring against the fluorescent light. In the inside circle, carved in a cursive font, is A ❤ D. A smile suffused my cheeks. 

" Go on then, take it! Do whatever you want! I quit! " she looked at me with angry and deep-rooted eyes. Blame, abhorrence, disgust, and loathing mixed, her eyes are scarier than a psychoneurotic man. 

That's how much she hates me now. I know, the way she sees this situation, I'm the bad guy. For the last month, we stayed together I did not bother to know what she feels about me. Or the other people. It's always like this. Strings reveal so many emotions and memories of others around me, I feel like I'm losing my mind. They invade, settle in, and push me on the edge that I'm losing ground. I don't even know what's real anymore. It left me shivering, haunted, and feeling sick all over.

The extras crowded the room. They were getting paid 8-10 dollars an hour, so the director was hoping that the scene would be finished as soon as possible.
Mark began to shoot.
Using her most innocent voice, Karen told her ex-boyfriend, "Do you know that girl Katie?"
Qin Guan nodded. "Yes, she is pretty nice. I invited her to the ball tonight."
The happiness on his face hurt her heart. Without thinking, she said, "Beware of her. She has fallen in love with you."
Qin Guan was happy to hear that. It felt like he had found some meat in a plate of cheap noodles.
His expression made Karen even more depressed. "She has written your name on a T-shirt and put it on underneath her clothes. She has told everybody about it," she added.
Qin Guan was stunned.
"You are really handsome after all. She also collects any tissues you have used. She wants to use an African spell to make you fall in love with her."
The muscles on Qin Guan’s face stiffened. "What?" he managed to say.
"Interesting! He doesn't rely on his appearance. He is actually a good actor."
"Yes! Generally speaking, popular boys don’t understand weirdos."
It seemed that there were many weird students among the cast.
The scene went on. That scheming b*tch Karen was watching Lindsay across the dance floor with Qin Guan.
When Qin Guan turned around, Karen told him, "Please don’t laugh at her. She might be a weirdo, but she is my friend."
Qin Guan eventually yielded and the two of them kissed each other.
Karen was laughing internally. B*tch! So what if you are the protagonist? Qin Guan kissed me first!
The cameraman worked extra hard on the scene. The couple looked beautiful as they moved before the camera.
Qin Guan was the first to wake up. He pushed Karen away, saying, "What are you doing? We have broken up!"
Karen locked her arms around his neck tight. "When? I didn't agree to that. You are so charming... I’d never break up with you!"
He was her one true love. Feeling the deep love of the campus belle, Qin Guan closed his eyes and hugged her thin waist.
They kissed like crazy among the crowd, as if there was no one else present. Of course, there was no tongue involved. Qin Guan just pasted his lips on hers. He was a gentleman after all.
Karen had a favorable impression of Qin Guan. Lindsay is right. He is a nice guy...
"Cut!" the director shouted at them cheerfully. He was very satisfied with the scene.
By then, it was already dark outside. Their work was finished for that day. Qin Guan said goodbye to the director and left. He hadn't realized that the distributor of the film was Paramount Pictures, which was famous for its commercial success.
Ever since Qin Guan had been cast, the PR Department of Paramount Pictures had been working hard.
The next morning, there were news about the film in many big city newspapers, including The Los Angeles Times.
"The protagonist of ‘Mean Girls’ has been selected. Jonathan Bennett lost to Asian actor Qin Guan."

Paramount made good use of Qin Guan's popularity in the fashion circle. They not only managed to get new sponsors for the costume department, but also promote the film indirectly.

Danika was still chuckling over MatchlessMinion's attempt at explaining what a concubine was to the little flying pig in front of the beautiful elven bard when she logged out, but she sobered a little and took a deep breath before submitting her search.

"You asked for this," she reminded herself as she sorted through the results for candid and behind the scenes photos of Aichi Shinichi working on the new VR film. She'd been avoiding the entire subject, knowing that there would be plenty of pictures of him with the pretty stars that they'd seen in the shows they'd watched together, but his cuddling and his request for verification that she still wanted to marry him made her feel like something was wrong.

She wasn't even really sure what she was looking for. There were actually fewer shots of him in close contact with his co-star than she'd expected, and most of the shots of them kissing seemed to be of the same VR scene from different angles. 

"She doesn't even look like she's really enjoying it, at least act like you're enjoying it, isn't that your job?" Danika criticized.

After a bit she expanded her search, and discovered how concise Naoki's summaries of recent articles actually were. She'd been assuming that he was leaving out a lot of information, but from the bits she read, she could see that she already knew more about the plot and cast than any of the official releases told.

She still wasn't sure why Naoki had been making a point of summarizing every article that talked about how well the cast members were getting along, and the lasting relationships that were being formed, to her whether she wanted to know or not. She was pretty sure that he wasn't actually testing her resolve anymore though, because he always added little, "but they never mentioned," incidents. She still hadn't quite decided if this was his way of making her feel included or if he was innocculating her against the stories.

She skimmed an article from two days ago, that claimed to be mostly 'speculation', and decided that it had to have been written by someone who had access to at least one cast member like she did. Its summary of how the characters met during their vacation, how the lifelong enemies supposedly bonded over the coincidence of having chosen the same song as their ringtone, and how one of the characters played by the members of Underneath was actually going to die, fit too well with the fragments of what she knew. Especially since the guys had made a point of assuring her that any rumors she heard about one of them leaving the band after the movie was released, could be totally ignored.

A comment on one of the officially released VR scenes, where the two main characters were actually making out, caught her eye and she gazed at it a little judgmentally. It read: "This looks so fake, he always has his hands lower than that when he's really kissing someone."

After a moment she sighed and asked the empty air, "Encyclopedic fan or girl you've kissed? Because they've obviously either kissed you or watched you kissing somebody."

Her assistant dragon spoke up from it's app an hour later and reminded her, "You are scheduled to begin your shift in less than eight hours."

"Okay," Danika replied and closed the screen. She hadn't found anything that the public knew of that might make Shinichi suddenly feel clingy. The expressions of the members of Underneath tended toward their warm public smiles in their most recent snapshots, but the rest of them just looked like the guys being themselves.

She held her phone for a minute before messaging Shinichi simply: "I love you."

She still didn't say so very often, and it seemed to be the core of what he'd wanted to know, regardless of what was actually stressing him right now.

Shinichi reached for his phone when the message notification from Danika sounded without opening his eyes. She didn't usually message him this late, since he'd taken the time to set up a calendar that held both of their schedules and made sure that her work assistant could access it.

He cracked open one eye and peeked at the message, which was short enough that he didn't even have to open it up to see the whole thing. A smile spread across his face as he closed his eyes again, but a frown replaced it after a few moments. He was worried that she was feeling anxious. There were too many things that he could think of that might be making her feel anxious too.

She was meeting up with her future stepmother for some reason on Saturday. She'd told him that her cousin had been turned down for a spot on the beta testing team for the demo they'd just finished. She could be fretting about his long absence, or about starting on the new demo game in the morning.

He opened his eyes and wrote back: "I love you too. Don't worry about the future tonight, just get some sleep. We've both got a long day tomorrow, but I'll definitely spend some time cuddling with you in VR tomorrow night."

Her reply arrived almost before he finished closing his eyes again: "Yeah. Sorry, I expected you to be asleep and thought you'd get that in the morning."

His breath huffed in a silent laugh, and he replied teasingly: "I'm never going to be sorry about waking up to hear that you love me."

She didn't reply again but he fell asleep with a smile still curling the corners of his mouth.

Danika slept restlessly. She wondered what part of the future was worrying Shinichi. She decided that she really needed to try to say that she loved him more often, but she really didn't want it to become something that was just a habit some day.

When she woke up, she thought about that again and wondered when she decided that having the habit of telling your loved ones that you loved them was a bad thing. 

She could remember her mother telling her father that she loved him often enough. Usually while laughing happily. Shinichi was usually laughing happily when he said it to her too. An image of Shinichi humming while he sorted something overlapped with an image of her mother humming while she cleaned and she laughed.

When Danika logged in to the new Demo server, she was dressed in a featureless white coverall outfit. She didn't have long to examine herself before she was met by a softly glowing ball of light about the width of her hands that announced, "Welcome to StarCraft technologies game developer Danika Belova. I am the personal assistant assigned to you by the system core. Your personal settings have already been imported. When you are ready, please allow me to guide you to the meeting room."

"Ah, thanks," Danika replied a little uncertainly. The ball hovered politely in front of her until she added, "I'm ready."

The wall opened up, and the ball floated down a short white corridor that opened up into a wide white room, with lots of windows that looked out at a blue sky dotted with white clouds. In the center of the room a much larger ball of light hovered over a raised pool that appeared to be filled with liquid silver. 

Lin Hao stood in front of that glowing orb with dozens of transparent screens outlined around him. He was dressed in the same white coverall that she was, with no visual indication that he outranked her.

Danika drifted over to him and asked, "We're starting out a bit differently?"

He replied without looking at her, "Yeah. The main difference is that I stripped out all of the old game records this time. But your assistant has updated libraries and records combined from both of your previous ones."

"Greetings Danika Belova," the large glowing sphere said cheerfully in a familiar voice.

After a great deal of preparation, Danika begins her new digital dragon's life in a very small way.

They say the "Living Jade Empire" creates individualized quests. They say it can read your mind. They say you can find your heart's desire. They say that there's never been a game like it, and they're right but… they're also wrong.

The game is a data mine, built to retell the old tales that humans have been telling each other since language was invented. It doesn't read your mind, but it reads your search history, your favorites, and your blogs. The "Living Jade Empire" is literally crafted from fables, legends, fantasies, and maybe just a bit of stardust.

Once in my car, far enough away from Gina and the whirlwind that seemed to be surrounding Luke, I opened the box he thrust in my hand before leaving. Inside lay a beautiful seashell about as big as my palm, perfectly scalloped with purple edges. Also inside, lay a note:
Dear Stella,
I picked this up the day we were at the beach together. I’m sorry it got cut short. I had a lot of fun with you. It meant a lot to me that you brought me to one of your favorite places. I never liked the beach much because of what happened with Cassidy and my fear of water, and I hope this shell helps remind you of the fun we had and how you’ve helped me so much already.

I couldn’t believe it. After what I just witnessed with Gina, how could he write me such a sweet note? Why was he toying with my emotions? I read the note again. It didn’t actually say anything too romantic; it was more like a note of gratitude. Still. I thought about what it meant. Or what I wanted it to mean.
Obviously, I was having trouble drawing the line between wanting a romantic relationship with Luke and having a professional relationship. Now that he had opened up to me, I wanted to support his goal of learning to swim even more than before. But how could I continue to train him, when I could tell I was falling in love with him? It just wasn’t going to work. Every time we became closer, something pulled us apart - Gina, the paparazzi, my insecurities. I sighed, tired of playing games.
And I didn’t know how Gina fit into the picture. I couldn’t compete with her beauty and popularity. If Luke needed sizzling eye candy for his next red carpet appearance, Gina was clearly his go-to girl. But were they more than that? I couldn’t tell.

I drove over to Sunset Fitness to check in with Daniel. He sat at his computer in his closet office, probably looking at porn, when I walked in. 
“How’s it going, Stella?” he asked.
“Ugh. OK, I guess.” His office was so small there was barely room for me to stand inside with his small desk. “I just finished a boxing circuit with Luke.”
“Oh, how’s that going? I saw the beach pictures.” He winked at me. 
I rolled my eyes. “The beach was fine, thank you. Actually, Luke has really improved his swimming ability.” I popped a piece of gum in my mouth from Daniel’s stash on his desk. I really wanted a cupcake, but peppermint gum would have to do for now. 
“Yeah, and the money’s been good for both of us. At least you’ve gotten those collection agents off your back,” Daniel said.
“I know. It’s just that…”
“What?”
“I’m falling for him. I can’t keep training him.”
“What are you talking about?” Daniel stood up and walked around the desk to stand next to me. “You’ve always had a crush on Luke Mulligan. What’s so different now? Of course you’re falling for him. You must have fallen and hit the floor with your head.” He put his hand on my forehead as if examining it for scrapes and bruises.
I smirked at him. “Real funny. No, I mean I don’t just have a celebrity crush on him. I have a real crush on him.”
“I’m not sure I follow.”
“It’s real now. My emotions are real. Before, it was pretend. I’m not in love with Luke Mulligan the movie star. Just Luke.”
“But he IS Luke Mulligan the movie star.” Daniel still looked confused, trying to make sense of what I was trying to tell him.
I slapped my forehead in frustration. Of course Daniel wouldn’t understand. He believed almost any girl he hit on would follow him to bed - maybe not the very rich and famous ones, although he’d slept with his fair share of actresses. To not be able to determine if Luke was actually interested in me or if his affections were just friendly and professional was toying with my emotions.
“It’s just that he says things and does things sometimes that make me think we could actually be a couple. A great couple.”
“Oh, now I get it. Before, you just wanted to shag Luke Mulligan the sexy movie star, now you’re actually interested in feelings and stuff, like a real relationship.”
I nodded. “Kind of. And I think Luke might actually believe that too. Or maybe I’m just reading his signals wrong. I …. I don’t know.” I stood still for a moment contemplating my next move. I blew a bubble. Even with peppermint gum, I could force a tiny bit of air into the gum on the tip of my tongue even though it burned a little. Daniel watched for a moment, not knowing what to say.
“I think you should train Luke,” I said. “It’s probably best if I just take myself out of the equation. He’s good enough in the pool now, you can probably just help him from the side or bag that up.” I pointed to his cast. 
“Oh, no. No.” He shook his head. “You are not going to run away again. After all we went through to keep this guy as a client? Breaking into a country club? Nah. I won’t let you quit.” Daniel walked around to a piece of gym equipment and picked up a discarded towel as if he’d settled the situation. I followed.
My anger at Daniel due to his misunderstanding of the situation began to boil. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to train Luke. I wanted to - very much. I didn’t think I could handle getting hurt again. Not after what happened with Ryan.
“You know after my dad died and Ryan supported me, I trusted him.Too much. I can’t do it again,” I said to Daniel who kept walking and picked up another used towel. 
After a few steps, Daniel deposited the towels in a bin and  turned to face me. “Stella, part of me wants to hug you and tell you it’s going to be OK. You can love again, blah, blah, blah. But what I think you need now is a good kick in the pants.”
“I’ll kick YOU in the pants.” I turned my foot up and kicked his butt.
“How about this? We climb for it.” He pointed up at the 50 ft. indoor climbing wall the gym had. “With the cast on, you should have the advantage. I win, you keep training Luke. You win, I train him.” I considered Daniel’s arm. There was no way he could beat me with one arm. No way. “First one to the top of the green wall wins,” he challenged. 
I looked at Daniel’s fingers hanging out of his cast. Surely, his grip would suffer. I’d climbed the wall before. Daniel had too, but I knew he relied too much on his hanging ability which was now compromised.
“You’re on,” I said, sticking out my hand so we could shake on it.
We harnessed up and stood at the bottom, each hooked into an automatic belay system. The green wall was for intermediate climbers with the blue and red reserved for advanced and yellow for beginners. I looked at the top, a bell hanging toward the middle of where Daniel and I would climb. 
“Ready?” he asked.
“Ready.” I nodded.
“Go,” he said. I started out well, finding good handholds and pushing myself up the rock. Daniel kept pace, working pretty well without needing his casted arm too much. Halfway up, we were neck and neck. At one point, I positioned myself a step ahead as Daniel struggled to find a good hand placement. Near the top, however, he caught up. I thought I could win, and then I could put the emotional roller coaster with Luke behind me. 
In my last ditch effort to overtake him, I closed my eyes and jumped for the bell just out of reach. 


"Hi. I’m Luke."  That smoldering gaze I admired up on the billboard was now staring back at me in real life. I was so surprised that Daniel’s celebrity client was Luke Mulligan. THE Luke Mulligan. I cracked my gum like a teenager, shocked at the revelation. 
“Hi. I’m…Stella.” It took me a minute, but I wasn’t that star struck that I forgot my name. Just my manners. I cracked my gum again, unable to blink. The man I had watched for hours upon hours onscreen was standing before me.  “The trainer,” I managed to blurt out as Luke’s intense chocolate eyes stared back at me.
