The library was an old three-story building that use to be a factory. It was donated over fifty years ago. And was one of the older building in the area. It had been updated in the last few years with new walls, stairs, and wiring. However, they had kept the worn wood floors and it still had a cool, well-used and comfortable feel to it.

She walked over to the front counter where the librarian, Mrs. Chen, sat working on the computer.

"Hello, Lina. I heard you finally got assigned independent study. It took those kooks up in the English department long enough, heh?"

"You're telling me. I didn't know how many more of those idiots I could take without counseling." She thought about how that could be taken for a moment. "The students, that is, Mrs. Chen."

"Sure. Your class time doesn't start until tomorrow, so I assume you're here for your book."

"It finally came in?!"

She smiled and reached beneath the counter.

"Just this morning. Blood by GRAY."She shook her head but handed her the book. "Sometimes I wonder if I should be worried about you."

Lina laugh. The game and the book was sort of along the same vane but different. The book focuses more on how one could tell if you could make potions in real life. That is if you had blood. The author of the book offer list and guilds on taking a potion from a game and make money.

"Shoo, now," she said, waving her hands. "You're terrible."

She took the book and walked to the back corner of the room where the wide oak stairs led up to the second floor and her special reading spot. She ran her hand up the smooth banister as she walked up, loving the feel of the cool wood. The library had always been a quiet spot she had used to think and relax since she had come to the college three years ago. She used it to get away from all of the whispers and names.

At the top of the stairs, she walked through the maze of books to a dimly lit far corner. The shelves formed a natural hallway that prevented anyone from seeing the corner unless they actually walked through. It held a large beige chair big enough for two and a standing light next to it. She never worried about anyone being there because the idiots on campus barely walked through the reference books on the first floor, let alone the second floor where most of the romance, fiction, mystery, horror, fantasy, and science fiction books were held.

She set her bag on the floor beside the chair and plopped down, pulling her legs up under her. She didn't need the light yet, so she opened her new book and began reading.

"So, what genres do you enjoy reading the most?" He asked, while looking around the library, he seemed to be looking for something specific. 


     I was a little nervous to tell him what I liked reading. When the kids at my old school saw what I was reading all the time, I got made fun of a lot more. They thought it was stupid and nerdy. Wich is understandable, I was a weird girl. But it still hurt.


     "I-I know n-not many p-people do. B-but I l-love poetry." Malachi looked at me, his beautiful brown eyes glowing with excitement. 


I wonder why he is so excited. I had never seen him this excited before. But whatever it was I was happy to see him so excited.


     "Are you serious?" He asked, I could hear the excitement in his voice. 


     He led me through the library, seeming as though he was being timed. He was smiling the whole way through the library. I loved when he smiled, it made the room light up when he smiled. But I still didn't know why he was so happy.


     "Here we are. I have a secret to tell you." He said softly, as he leaned in to whisper in my ear. 


     I could hear the calming sound of his breathing. "I absolutely love poetry." He whispered. 


     As he stood up straight he smiled. "So, we can be weird together." I was so happy to know that we were very much the same. 


     "So, who is your favorite poet?" He asked, while looking through the books in the poetry section. 


     "I-I would have t-to say Araya Vanburen." I answered, looking to see if they had one of her pieces in the library. 


     "Hmm, I thought I had heard of everybody. Do you see any of her pieces here? I would love to hear some of her poetry." I looked and looked. 


     I was just about to give up when I saw it "Poems by Araya Vanburen." 


     "H-here it is" I said, as I slid the book gently out of its space. 


     "What's your favorite piece she has written?"  He asked, as I looked through the book trying to find the piece I so adored. 

 
     "M-my favorite piece would be "Why Do They Cry?" I said, as I searched through the book, looking for the piece I had named. 

 
     "They were made to see joy and happiness, yet all they see is pain and sorrow. They were made to see the beauty and love in God's creation, yet all they see is a dark and fallen world. I read, lost in the sad and hopeless feelings this piece shown. 

 
     You could almost hear the feeling of sadness and desperation in the author's voice. I had felt many of these feelings, I had felt a lot of this pain. But I had read this poem, and I knew that even though it seemed dark, sad and hopeless, hope was about to be declared. I continued reading softly and slowly. 


     "But one day, they will see love and beauty like never before. They will see the glory and honor come to the one who created them. When will they see all this? You may ask, and the answer is, when they are opened." with a sigh I finished reading and looked up at Malachi. 

 
     "I-I hope it w-wasn't too boring to you. I just r-really enjoy her w-work; and sometime g-get caught up in i-it." I said, as I put the book back in its space.  

 
     "No! It wasn't at all boring, it was beautiful. I've never seen anyone get so captivated by a poem. It must mean a lot to you." I nodded, as I watched Malachi take the book back out of its space and lead me to the checkout stand. 

 
     After he checked the book out, we joined Melanie at the table. 

 
     "Here Lamia, I thought you might like to read this book, it's really good I've read it about three times." Melanie said, as she handed me a book entitled "My Summer Luv by Lisa Jackson." 


     The cover was gold with a shadow of a man and a woman dancing. 

 
     "W-wow, it l-looks as if it would b-be good." I said, as I slide my palm against the cover; admiring its beauty. 

 
     "I'm so happy."

The Rangers rushed to the roof of Whiskey Hotel to light flares as otherwise it would mean the flattening of D.C.
Pushing through the russians and arriving at the roof and lighting their flares, waving them to get the attention of the incoming Jets. Finally the pilots took notice and waved off as the Rangers were finally victorious. Finally being able to clear the White house from any Russian forces still left. After eliminating all enemy forces the Rangers decided to look around but still be aware of their surroundings, Entering a library they looked around to see any interesting books to read as the EMP made all electronics unusable. One Ranger in particular Cpl Dunn found a interesting book to read as he was temporary done fighting, "We'll never was one for reading books but this one look pretty interesting." 
Reading the title of the book made him curious of the contents that lied in it. So he started reading a book about four heros, The Sword,Bow,Spear and lastly the shield but Dun didn't think the shield could be a great weapon.
"Hey Dun, What you reading there" Said a another Ranger with dark skin "Nothing much Sarge just a book about some heroes who get summoned to some other world to save the planet." he said as he turned to the next page 
"I hate the Princess she's such a bitch."
 "Well Dun what can you tell us from the book we wanna hear about the interesting adventure you've been having in your head." The other Rangers laughed "Well it's about four heroes the sword, Bow, Spear and Shield as they get sent into another world, where they are given their weapons as they go on their adventure they meet a princess she turns out to be a bitch but hardly anyone notices it though there are still pages left from the book but their empty even though it already went through all the heroes." 
Confused to why they would leave blank pages in a book "Might be a publishing error or something so wh..." Foley was cut off by the bright shine coming from the book. "Yo what kind of fucking book shines that bright is that some kind of new bible or some shit." One of the Rangers said surprised. "I have no idea what the hell is causing the huge light." Dropping the book all of the Rangers slowly fell unconscious.

Naofumis POV

Naofumi was just going along his day by heading to a library to look for a good Novel to read as he was browsing a book fell on him "Ow... that hurt" rubbing his head he looks at the book "The Weapons of the four saints." Reading the book he had gotten very interested in the book. Suddenly arriving at the Shield hero's chapter, he was surprised to see it was blank. Suddenly he starts to slowly pass out.

"Ow" Naofumi said as he slammed unto the floor and woke up, Confused to where he was he looked around and then noticed the shield 'What the hell' trying to pry it off but nothing happened. Looking at the others around him "We did it we summoned the Saints but who are the others nevermind o great heros please save our world." Suddenly the other heros spoke "Why should we help you after taking us from our world." "Are you going to reward us for our efforts" "What your answer is might turn us into your enemies." 'Wow they've already demanded respect and rewards' 
"Please you can negotiate with the king he will reward you all handsomely."
A brief moment of silence passed through the air as another voice spoke "First of all where the fuck are we and why are there some weird rove wearing fuckers surrounding us." "Dun shut the hell up and let me take care of everything." Foley spoke standing behind him were his other Rangers in total being 10 counting him 11. The 4 cardinal heros were surprised to see soldiers from their era with them. "Alright now that you're all silences I can speak, now its not good that you're already trying to negotiate with something you don't know anything about as well as a great way to make people mad at you." Foley said in a stern voice "but they summoned us from our world to fight for them without our consent." the bow hero spoke "Colonel take it away."
 foley spoke giving a chance for the colonel to speak. "You are right they took you without your proper consent so it is part of your problem but even though they did you're here now, Its best to not start making enemies early on son or else were all gonna be in trouble." Colonel Marshal said.
 "I guess your right." "Now please lead us to your king."
 'Wow now we have soldiers of our era on our side this is not what I expected.' Surprised to all that happened in a matter of seconds.

Climbing up the stairs the Bow hero spoke "Wow so we really are in another world." "Yea, we really are." the spear hero responded. "Wow it feels like one of those commercials for vacations" all the other heros looked at him "You've never been out of Japan" The bow hero said "This place has standard Mediterranean climate." the sword hero said.
Naofumi felt a bit embarrassed "Yea, yea sorry for my lack of knowledge and vocabulary." 
"Well people lets get a move on not much time if these people are in danger." Foley reminding them.

Arriving at the kings throne the king spoke "So you are the 4 Cardinal heros as well as your other companion, I am the King of Melromarc Aultcray Melromarc XXXII." The U.S. Rangers weren't amused as they looked at the king they know how kings can be, Cruel and unjust in a single second he can kill you because he can or you insult him. Who could blame them they were Americans they know the Dictatorship of Kings and Queens but they stood silent to listen. "Heros name yourselfs."
"I am Amaki Ren, Sixteen years old, High Schooler."
"I am Kitamura Motoyashu, Twenty one years old and a College student."
"Guess I'm next Kawasami Itsuki, Seventeen Years old and a High Schooler."
"I am Naofumi Iwatani, Twenty and in College."
"Alright we're next I am Colonel Marshal U.S. Rangers."
"Sgt Foley and Sgt Hirsh." "Cpl Dun and Cpl Hirsh." "Pvts Ramirez, Sandler, Blumel,Handler,Volker and Wade."

"Now then My country and all of the world are in danger of being destroyed."

Waves which come and if they aren't stopped they will destroy the world. Which is what the 4 Cardinal heros are for to thwart them as well as hour glasses that every country has in order to tell when the wave is coming. The 1st wave came before we were summoned the knights and Merchants fought it off but not without taking Major casualties. Which then the wave get harder as the more you progress through the wave of calamity. "We underestimated the destruction and strength of the wave, we realized that the only ones who can stop them are you the Cardinal Heros."
"You don't expect us to work for free do you." Ren spoke "No of course not once the waves are done with we will reward you handsomely." 

"Now check your statuses."
"Um what?"Naoufumi was Confused 
"Come on guys it should've been the first thing you see on the corner of your vision."
"Oh... yea, I see it" Naofumi said
"Now focus on it"
His status opened to reveal their levels, only to be lvl 1.
"Well guys we're heroes but not the 4 classes, were gunners." Pvt Ramirez said
"Ugh first we fight a war and now we have to deal with this come on I wanted to retire after all that." Dun said tiredly.
"So what is all this?." Naofumi asked
"This is status Magic in order to lvl up you have to set of on an adventure to upgrade your weapons."
"My shield isn't even considered a weapon."
"I guess we should all form a party."
"You will all have to recruit and travel separately" the old man said.
"Why is that " Itsuki said with curiosity.
"It is said that the weapons repel themselves by nature if you work together it hinders their ability to develop."
"So it is true" Naofumi said looking at the message in front the message appears in front of all 4 heros except the Rangers.
"Uh does this go for us because I don't see any damn message." Dun asked in curiosity.
"I'm guessing no since we might be some kind of exception hero or something." said Sandler.
"The sun is about to set so you heros should get some rest, We shall gather the best heros for you tomorrow."
A woman came forward and spoke "Please follow me to your room."

"Wow so this is how it feels to be treated as a legendary hero, that woman who led us was also hot." Motoyashu said in great happiness

"Wow isn't this like a game or something" Naofumi said.
"You mean it is a game an Online game." Motoyashu said
"What are you talking about its a Console game"
"You're wrong, it's a VRMMO."
"Alright well we have to start somewhere." Motoyashu said
"Who was the guy in the thousand Yen bill 1.. 2.."
4 different responses came out and now they  had to talk about their worlds respective history.
"Guess we're not just from different era Japan's but whole entire alternative Universe Japans." Naofumi said.
"What about you guys" Motyashu said a bit curious about their world. 
Foley looked at them and spoke "Not a pretty one if you're asking, We were fighting a war on American soil defending against the russians but that's all I'm gonna say nothing to surprising other than a war on the shores of America."
The 4 were surprised to hear that the Rangers were fighting a war before they arrived, they expected off duty soldiers or reserve but not in current combat or large scale as that one.
"Did you guys have anything familiar to a game or something like this."
Cpl Dun spoke up "No not really we found it in a book and this is where it led us."
"I guess y'all know just as little as me." 
"Yea that's right but we'll be damned before we go without a fight, Hoah." Cpl Dun chanted in pride. "Well we thought it was because you were the shield hero because you're useless in Combat." Motoyashu said "No y'all have to be kidding me what about your worlds?" Itsuki shook his head and Ren spoke "Sorry man." 
"NOOOOOOO!!!" laying there sadly on the couch.
Sgt Foley spoke "Come on kid there's a purpose for a shield if it exists as does everything now get up."
Thinking about that brought his pride up a bit "Well it doesn't matter because I'll deal with anything that comes in my way." Fooley smiled "Now that's the spirit now we should all get some sleep for tomorrow so we can be ready for whatever awaits us tomorrow."
Everyone agreed and went to sleep for the next day.

The fight for DC rages on as the U.S. Rangers fight to retake DC from the Russian Forces. A Nuke sets of in midair causing an EMP disabling all electronics finally giving the Rangers a fighting chance against the Russians. After hard fighting for Whiskey Hotel or the White House, They fight hard to reach the top and set off flares to stop the flatening of DC. The Rangers are victorious along with others to reaching the top of Whiskey Hotel. After the 11 Rangers secured Whiskey Hotel the Rangers find a library and start looking at books to keep themselves busy, Cpl Dun finds a book about 4 heroes the others get interested into what he's reading as they have nothing else to do but wait for reinforcements to arrive.


MW2 and Rising of The Shield Hero Crossover

I woke up on the bed, tucked into the blankets. The pack doctor was no where in sight. Nor was the alpha. Did he ever return home?

I looked over to the window and seen that the sun had gone down. What time is it? I look over at the nightstand and seen a clock. 12:40 am. It's late and he hasn't returned?! He at least didn't return to the room....I think. I sighed. Maybe I should go see if he's somewhere in the house. 

I got up out of bed and walked down the long hallway that led to a flight of stares. Quietly, I walked down the stairs, not wanting to wake anyone up. 

Once I got to the bottom step, I sighed and continued my way around searching for my mate. While roaming around the dark house, I seen a light up ahead of the never heading hallway. When I got to the room where the light was coming from, I seen that it was the kitchen. 

Inside the kitchen, sat a person. He wasn't Lucius but from what I'm guessing is that it's his beta. 

"I know you're there," he said. 

I looked up to see him staring at me over the book he was reading. 

"You can come in. I'm not going to bite," he said before sighing. 

I walked closer to him, but kept my distance. 

"I'm Iris," I said to him. 

"Maxwell," he said. 

"What are you reading?" I asked. 

"Huh? Oh. It's something my grandmother gave me. It was her book of the ancient legends and myths of every creature that lived on earth. She used to read me them to bed every night since I was a baby before she passed," Maxwell said closing the book.

I looked at him closely. There was a faint scar that went down his nose and lip. 

"Where did you get that scar?" I asked him out of curiosity. 

"What scar?" he asked me confused. 

"The one on your face," I said. 

"Oh, this one. About 2 weeks ago, the pack stumbled across a werecat. She clawed my snout while I was in wolf form. This is the result of it," Maxwell told me. 

Holy shit. I clawed the beta. I'm going to be in some deep sh*t. 

"I'm sorry," I mumbled. 

"Sorry for what? You didn't do anything," he said. 

"Yes I did Maxwell. I'm the werecat that clawed you," I told him. 

"Oh.... Well, it's okay. You were defending yourself," he said grinning. 

We talked to each other more. I soon had sat next to him. Apparently, him and Lucius were trouble makers when they were pups. I thought it was funny because from the little time I got to know Lucius, if you want to even count it as getting to know him, I didn't see him as a trouble maker. Now Maxwell, I can see him like that. He has that childish personality that suits him.

"So, have you found your mate?" I asked Maxwell. 

"No. Have you?" he replied. 

"Yeah. Lucius is my mate. But I don't know where he disappeared to," I said laying my head against my hand. 

"Your Lucius's mate?! I'm sorry Luna. I should have known. I'll mind-link Lucius for you," he said getting all professional. 

"Thanks Maxwell. But please call me by my name. And you don't have to be all professional around me either. Just be your natural self," I said to him. 

"Your welcome. And okay," he says before mind-linking Lucius.

"Iris, he should be here soon," Maxwell told me after mind-linking the alpha. 

I nodded in response and looked through the book. I wasn't searching for anything particular. Just a story that my mom used to tell me. After searching through half the book, I eventually found it and tapped a sleeping Maxwell on the shoulder. 

"What you got there?" he said half asleep. 

"Just a story my mom used to tell me," I said showing it to him. 

"Ahh. The story of how the first werecat clan was made. It was one of my favorites as a child.", Maxwell said. 

"Mine too. Do you mind reading it to me?" I said to him. 

"Sure," he said.

Maxwell read the story to me. I sat there engrossed and memorized in it. It kind of felt like when I was younger. By the end of the story, I was in tears. It was a sad story, but a famous one as well. 

I thanked Maxwell for reading me the story. That's when the alpha made his presence known. 

"Alpha," Maxwell said to him. 

"Maxwell," he said acknowledging him. 

"I'll go make myself scarce. Iris, whenever you want to hear another story, you can find me in the library," Maxwell said. 

"Okay," I replied. 

Maxwell quickly left me with Lucius in the kitchen. 

"What time is it?" I asked Lucius, not seeing a clock anywhere in here. 

"3:30 am. Why?" Lucius said. I tried to calm myself before talking to him, but that didn't work out as planned. 

"Where the hell were you?!? I looked for you before sitting here with your beta. I was worried. You weren't here when I woke up," I exclaimed. 

Lucius sighed. 

"We need to talk, It's about what happened a decade ago," he said dodging my question. 

"Then will you tell me where you went?" I asked. 

"Yes I will," he said tiredly. 

"You better," I said in a very pissed off tone.

Iris Lace is the last of her kind. She's been on the move for a while now. Then she meets him. Her mate. Lucius Lyons. 
     Lucius Lyons is the alpha of the Filtrian Pack. He's one of the most intimidating and scariest alphas in all of history. Piss him off and he won't show you any mercy.
     But what will happen when Iris crosses onto Lucius's path? How would Lucius feel about being mated to a werecat? Iris?

As Ana and Light headed to Ustedrias, she sat in the carriage reading her mother's book. It was a good thing Light hadn't forgotten to take it when they were ambushed. If he had, and the enemies had laid their hands on it, things wouldn't end to well for the human and supernatural  race. Her attempts were made futile though, every time she tried to read a new line, her thoughts would drift back to the memories she'd had when her mother was still alive.


Especially that time when the water company cut off the neighborhood's supply because of a long period of drought. Everyone reeked and yet at the end of the day they were able to have fun because it finally rained in what seemed like years. Everyone bathed in it. She could remember vividly the fact that little children ran around butt-naked in the rain. Screaming, laughing and rolling in the mud like pigs.


She laughed and wiped a stray tear after seeing one land on the page she was reading. Whipping up the courage to continue reading, she found a chapter on eye colors. 
It read:


Crimson red means the power of flames and anger. 
Golden rim (the individuals iris is a golden) means the power of visions. 
 Antarctic ice means conjuring or manipulating the element as well as turning an innate object into ice.


As Ana continued reading, Light stopped the carriage. She looked up from her book for five seconds, scanned the area and then asked. "Light, what's going on?" No answer. "Light why did we stop?" No answer. She decided to get off and walk to the front of the carriage.


"Ligh-"


"I need a break, Ana. It's already after three." he said sleepily as he looked at the direction of the sun and his shadow. 


"Fine." she said a little aggravated. He was right though, he was tired. His eyes were droopy and his stance was weak. Him having to do all the work as she sat snuggly in the carriage wasn't so fair. Especially the fact of him being out there, alone and susceptible to all the danger. "I'll drive," she offered as she placed the book in the carriage and walked up to take the reigns.


"No, Ana," Light said as he held her wrist. She turned to watch him and he scanned the area. "I don't think you should do that."


"Why not?"


"Demons invaded your home and killed your mother. They kidnapped your brother-they could be hiding in these woods right now waiting for the right moment to attack."
Ana scoffed. "Let them try," and she pulled her wrist from his hold and climbed on the seat and faced ahead.


"Ana this is dangerous. I'm your bodyguard-"


"Then you'll protect me. Look out the window whilst I drive and alert me, simple."


"I won't let you do that Ana. You're too valuable and you still need more training."
When he said that, she turned her head slowly to watch him. "Your lack of faith in me is quite enlightening." Sarcasm laced in her voice.


His eyes grew wide and he shook his head, "That's not  what I meant..."


"Then what do you mean!"


"Ana please. It gets late pretty quickly this time of year. I don't feel comfortable with you riding up there alone and I don't want to argue. Just...please, go back in the carriage and after ten minutes we'll head off again."


Ana faced forwards and folded her arms. "No. Either you get your ass up here with me since you're so afraid of me being up here alone, or you sit your ass in the carriage and let me do you a favor."
Startled and pissed at her stubbornness, Light stared at her and chuckled afterward. "You really are ratchet and stubborn and annoying."


Ana scoffed with surprise and watched him. "Well you're one to talk, calling me ratchet. I'm more well-mannered than you are."


"It was one time, Ana. One time can we drop it?"


Ana laughed and playfully tapped her chin. "Maybe..." They burst into laughter which lasted for ten seconds. "How much farther do we have to go?"


Light looked ahead and remained silent. "Shouldn't be too long. There's a village not too far from here, maybe we can spend the night and continue tomorrow." By that time, his eyes were trained on her again awaiting her response.


"And you're sure you don't want me to drive?"


 His eyelids drooped showing how serious he'd become at her statement.


"I mean it's only for a few minutes you said it yourself, it's not too far away from here."


Gray's expression lightened a bit and he took a step forward. Both of them staring into each others eyes, "I appreciate you trying to help Ana, but-"


"Okay," she said and slapped her hands on her thighs. "You're the boss," and she slid off the seat and entered the carriage without another word. Light reclaimed his seat and before he cracked the whip, Ana spoke.


"Wait. If we get a car, could I drive when you're tired?"


"What's a car?"


Ana looked at him shocked until a smirk crept up on his face and he winked. Ana laughed and shook her head, "Good one. I almost believed you there!"


And Light laughed in return before he cracked the whip and the carriage started moving.


 "Do you think they'll have a Nissan or a Chevrolet or-"


"Oh maybe even a Cadillac!" Light replied sarcastically. "Really Ana, a village. How can a village have these sorts of-"


"Never, ever  judge a book by it's cover Light," Ana said with a lazy smirk on her face and a gleam in her eyes. As he looked at her with soft eyes, he said. 


"That is true...you did teach me that the first day we met." He smiled slowly after and Ana looked in front of her as if she could see him. She blushed and laughed a few seconds later. 


"Did I now?"


An hour later, it began to rain heavily. The skies were as dark as the night and lightning flashed through the sky, frying a bird that flew by. The trees on the roadside looked dark and gloomy and so did the sign which said: Welcome to Proxy Pracs. "Who in their right mind, would name a village Proxy Pracs? Is that even a name?"


Ana didn't take the thought of staying in this village lightly. It looked way to creepy and suspicious. Everything about it seemed dark, but that was only the outside of it. As they went past the sign, what she saw was very much surprising. It looked as bright as day, the bird's chirped, mockingbird's sang sweet songs and the fresh air was amazing. "Damn, the irony here is pretty strong...."


But something dawned on her. If the outside really looked like how it did, then why does the inside look the opposite of that. Her instincts told her that it wasn't safe to stay here, despite it's appearance. Someone or something did this on purpose, and it sure wasn't to lure people in. 


"Light...I don't think we should stay here. Turn around."


But he didn't listen. 'How deaf could this damn boy be?'  "Light! Are you listening to me?" Nothing. Ana she groaned and the carriage stopped. She felt movement from the front, guessing he'd jumped off because he opened the door for her. "What is it Ana?" He asked as he looked at a lady, and a young girl about Ana's age. They stood outside of a building which was made out of brick and wood.


The wind blew gently and everything was quiet except for the squeaking of the sign above their heads which said: Proxy Pracs Inn. "Oh nothing...I forgot you were deaf!" she seethed and Light looked at her as if to say 'What?' she rolled her eyes and got off the carriage. "Forget it." Light walked up to them and they spoke with each other for a few seconds. The lady looked at Ana and then back at Light nodding, all the while the other one kept her eyes on Light's every movement. Ana rolled her eyes.


Two minutes later, Light led a reluctant Ana to the women and she stopped in front of them. The air seemed deadly, suffocating would be a better word. "Ana, these are the owners of Proxy Pracs Inn. They've decided to take us in for the night and I've agreed." 


Ana shot him a glare and then smiled at them wearily. "Ugh...e-excuse us for a moment." She said grabbing his arm and dragging him away, putting enough distance between them. As she did that and glanced at them briefly, they looked back at her innocently. A little too  innocently.


"Light, I don't want to stay here. Something's funny about this place. I--" she sighed. "Something's not right." And in agreement, the horses neighed and shifted uncomfortably stamping their hooves into the ground.


"What do you mean something's not right? I don't see any problems, Ana. Besides, we've been travelling the whole damn day-"


"Exactly my point! It's right there. For hours we've been on the road Light, the sun is supposed to be setting. Not still blazing bright in the sky. Another thing is when we approached here. Everything was dark with lightening and heavy rain and suddenly it's a place full of sunshine? Not to mention the way they are practically staring at me. Ligh-"


"Ana what the hell are you talking about? There was no such thing as we passed, you're dill--"


"Don't let that freaking word leave you damn mouth dam it! I- am- not- staying- here, Light. I know what I'm saying and I know what I saw." She looked around and felt like eyes were piercing into her back, forcing its way to her soul. Ana felt prickly and became agitated as her skin started to scratch. 
Light sighed heavily and held her shoulders, drawing her attention to him. "Listen, Ana. What ever you think you saw..." she rolled her eyes and looked away from him. "Look at me." She looked at him furious, but his eyes were the complete opposite. "What ever you think you saw, it's not real. And even if something were to hurt you...or by the heavens, happen to you...I'd never let it. You understand? Right now I see no threat, so don't worry."


"There's a girl there Light...sure you won't slip up like the last time?" she teased him and glared at him as if daring him to contradict her. Light looked at the girl and back at Ana. 


"She doesn't seem to bad..." he joked. Ana gasped and cuffed him on his arm. He laughed, "Damn 
girl, save your energy. You know damn well why I slept with the-why are we even talking about this? I don't-"


"E-excuse me but, mother says it's time to come inside. I-If you're still considering..." her eyes drifted to Ana. 


"No."


"Yes!" Light said above Ana's voice, leaving an interrupted Ana fuming. "We'll be staying. Please...lead the way." The young girl smiled softly and led the way to the Inn. 


"You are so dead." Ana seethed in his ear beside him, which only made him laugh. As they entered the Inn, Ana saw the carriage being led away by a young boy across the street to another area.

Inside the Inn was nothing special. It was like any ordinary home. "My name is Sasha, nice to meet you." She bowed to Ana politely, but her eyes kept skimming Light's features. 


"Slutty much?"  Ana muttered under her breathe as she turned to glance out the window. Sasha looked at Ana puzzled. "Disculpeme?" The word immediately complemented her Spanish accent.


"Ugh... she's nice to meet you too." Light jumped in, as he looked at Ana from the corner of his eye. Whilst Light conversed with Sasha heading towards the kitchen, Ana's attention was focused on the activity outside. The other owner of the Inn seemed to be talking to someone outside, handing him something whiles pointing at the house.


Before she could see anymore, Light called her from the doorway, telling her dinner was ready. Ana lingered a bit more before heading to the kitchen. After Sasha gave her a plate of food and left, she spoke. "Light, I don't trust her nor that lady." 


On impulse, he dropped his fork and sipped on his wine instead of glaring at her. Ana leaned over the table and whispered. "I saw that lady give someone outside something and pointed to this place. She-"


"Ana, seriously, you're becoming annoying. Can't you just give it a rest? I've heard your naggings today quite enough. I told what I had to tell you and I wont say it again. Do you hear me? I won't. Now, either you shut up and let a man eat or you leave." he stared at her upset, like really upset. His face was red with furry as he clenched his jaw.


Ana scoffed and rested her back on the chair looking at him long and hard. "Fine! No one ever seems to believe me anyway. They look at me like I'm some psychotic...you know what? Fine, I'll stay, I'll shut up and let you eat. But whatever happens, I'd be more than happy to let you deal with the consequences yourself."


"I-Is everything okay?" Sasha came in worried as she looked at the both of them. Ana pushed her seat back roughly, slammed her napkin on the table making Light jump and walked past Sasha fumingly. Light sighed and looked at her apologetically. 


"I'm sorry just some...you know what it's nothing, don't worry about it."


"Couple trouble?" Sasha dared to ask as she sat down in Ana's seat. Light nearly chocked on his chicken. 


"Haha, why do you think that ?" he asked nervously and looked around unable to stay calm. 


"Hmm... don't know." She laughed, "It's just the way you guys talk is all. Like you're some old married couple." Light laughed and stared at his food. "N-No we're not a couple." His voice came out with humor. 


"Mmm well that's good. Wouldn't want to let all this go to waste now would we?"
Suddenly he felt something slide up his leg and stop between them. He gulped and stared at her. She gave him an innocent smile and excused herself, swaying her hips as she left. "Damn," he looked down at his bulging crutch.

Ana stormed out the back door and sat down on the grass. She let out a heavy sigh and laid down looking up at the stars. Her thoughts drifted immediately to her baby brother. "Simion... where on earth are you?" she missed him. "The little womanizer. I wonder if dad was like that when he was younger? Hmmm?"  Then everything went blurry, she wasn't in the backyard anymore but in a room. The scene played before her eyes, but not clear enough to be able to predict anything.
Yet something was as clear as day and she'd heard it before. "You need to get out of here Ana. You and your bodyguard aren't safe. You didn't listen to me the first time, listen to me this time." The vision vanished the same way it came and Ana sat up looking around to see if anyone saw her and as if on cue, a silhouette of a figure ran in the dark with a flash of golden eyes. Fae.


When she turned to look at the house, she saw the older woman looking at her without emotion before walking away. Ana looked forward and kept gasping heavily for air.

Ana is a seventeen year old, living in the city of Andarios with her mother Claris and brother Simion. Her father, to her knowledge had an unfortunate death on an expedition when she was ten years old. Now that she will be turning eighteen in a few weeks, all she ever hopes for is to leave Andarios and see the world. Claris disagrees and they end up in a family feud. Little does she know that this little family feud will give her the answer to her prayers, when she encounters an Angel with a message that will change her life forever.

While Ren is planning what to do in the barren lands, he remembered the all-purpose hoe he received from the God. So he tried to search for it and found it lying under his bed.

When he grabbed the hoe, a panel appeared in front of him.

[Welcome to the interdimensional market.]

Those words greeted him and he is shocked because he saw a floating panel in front of him.

"D-do you see this?" Asked the shocked Ren.

"Yeah I could see it." Yoruichi said.

[Would you like a beginner's crash course of the market?] The panel asked.

"Yes." He said and a voice spoke through the head of the two.
 
It told them the basics of the trading system. You could put up items for sale or auction. You could buy items in the panel as well, there are also designated sub-panels if you want specific items. 

There are also trade panel where you can trade item for an item. There is even chat box where you can speak with the owner of the item through telepathy. 

The market also doesn't allow scamming because doing so will cost your life and the items you are trying to sell and the item you scammed will be given to the opposite party. (It is like the trading house of Dragon Nest but with trade boxes and chat boxes.)

[What would your community name would be?] It said and another blank panel appeared.

After thinking for a while, he just puts in his name.


[Invalid the name's already taken]

"Err. What do you think I should put in?" Ren asked Yoruichi.

"How should I know? Just put whatever you want." He said.

"Hmmm. Ren101? Uhhh invalid.... Ren001... invalid again... Ren123456... Invalid as well? FarmerRen. Oh. It got accepted." Ren heaved a sigh of relief after the community name got accepted.

After his community name got accepted, he then stared at the massive panel in front of him and there's a blinking notification in the corner of the panel as he clicked on it.

[You have a trade offer. (Accept) (Decline)] 

"Oh, someone sent me a trade offer. Accept."

A panel opened up with two windows. One of then is his and the other one, when Ren looked at who wants to trade to him, it was the overseer.

"You have finally joined the community." The overseer said.

"Its you again. Did you do something to me again? My head's a mess and I can't remember a single damn thing!" Ren sent his thoughts to the overseer.

"It was an accident. I didn't do anything at all." The overseer said.

"Anyway, since you have finally made it to the market, I'm giving this to you. I didn't give it to you earlier because you don't have any storage bags or rings at that time." The overseer said and a book appeared in the overseers trade window. When he put his fingers on that book, another panel appeared as it showed what book it is.

"Farming101? You're a God, right? Why don't you just transfer the knowledge to me?" Ren asked.

"Why should I? I don't gain anything with that trade. You get this book from me for free because it is inappropriate to send you with a book. If you want more you have to give me something of equal value. Its should be a basic rule especially for an alchemist like you." He said.

"Fine. I have already clicked accept. Lock it from your side." Ren said and didn't say anymore because he doesn't know the price of trading with the overseer and he doesn't know the prices of the goods up for sale as well.

The overseer locked and accepted the trade and a panel appeared saying that the trade was successful and before the overseer disconnected, Ren asked him since he knows a lot more than him plus his memory is basically gone because of another accident.

"If I ask a question is there a payment?" Ren asked.

"Of course. A question is 100 points each." He said and Ren disconnected from the overseer.

Ren then claimed the traded item and a book appeared in front of him and he grabbed it. He doesn't want to focus on getting seeds right now because basically, he's a beginner in terms of growing crops.

"Is that the book, that guy gave you?" Yoruichi asked.

"Yep. Looks like I have to read this from now on to at least have some basic knowledge on farming." Ren said as he opened the book.

What he saw inside is a table of content. The book was split into three sections, basics of farming, what you need to know about the land, and lastly, crops.

Ren didn't think twice and immediately flipped through until he reached the second section, about the land. He tried reading it from the start.

"Land pollution refers to all forms of pollution affecting any type of soil: agricultural, forestry, urban, etc. Soil pollution is a disruptive element for many biological resources and ecosystem..." Ren read through the book and finally found his answer.

"To cure land poisoning, you must extract the poison or chemicals from the ground. There are two ways to solve land poisoning, the long way, and the short way. The long way consists of taking a land sample and studying it and trying to find out something that would counteract the poison within the land. Or you could use the short way, just pour a drop of sap of rejuvenation into the land to purify it to the roots." Although Ren had found his answers, he still continued reading it for hours. 

Yoruichi just lied down on his bed, not seemingly bothered about Ren who keeps on reading as he lit a lamp and continued reading the book.

After reading for hours, he felt tired. He didn't feel hungry because he's eating the fruits they gave him while reading.

Ren finally decided to call it a night as he blew on the flickering light of the lamp and laid down as he closed his eyes to sleep.

Meanwhile, after confirming that Ren has slept, Yoruichi on the other hand transformed into a slender and well-endowed woman of average height. She has dark skin, golden irises, and black hair. She took one spare clothes of Ren from the table and their size exactly fit each other. 

She then continued jumping all around mount Myoboku. Yoruichi is currently mapping the entire area out. There are three points of interest for Yoruichi at the moment. A cave entrance, Toad Town, and the elder's house. But Yoruichi's curiosity led her to enter the cave entrance.

She cautiously entered the are and so far she didn't see or feel anything dangerous at the moment. When she reached the end of the cave, she saw a huge toad sitting in a high chair with waterfall in his back.

"What can I do for you little cat?" Asked the Great toad sage.

"Looks like you really can see the future." Said Yoruichi.

"Indeed. Although what I can see is only bits and pieces of it." He said.

"Tell me about this world. What are these things I perceive floating in the air?" Yoruichi asked for information.

"You are indeed not from these world. I don't think you're from Kaguya's clan. The boy isn't either." The great toad sage said in amusement.

The great toad sage then obliged as he told Yoruichi about chakra and shinobis but he didn't tell about chakra's origins and the nature chakra. 

He could tell that Yoruichi is perceiving nature chakra but he didn't tell her because simply absorbing them without any form of training could be deadly to anyone.

"Telling all this information, what's in it for you?" Yoruichi asked.

"The boy that's been with you might bring destruction or save this land from impending doom. I wish for you to guide him through the latter." He said. When he tried to see Ren's future, he saw two dreams, the first one is Ren sitting cross legged on the chakra fruit tree and is waiting for it to ripen while the second dream is blurry he can't see much the only thing he saw is Ren emitting light under such dark sky.

Hearing the great toad sage, Yoruichi can't stop laughing as she laughed hearing the Great Toad Sage's request.

"Ahhh, sorry. Its just that I find it funny. You think a mere prediction of the future can depict the path Ren will walk into? He will walk his own path with or without anyone's guidance. He might be naive at first glance because he lost majority of his memories but his instincts guides him on what he wants to do and what he doesn't." Yoruichi said as she went out of the cave and return to Ren's house.

Somewhere in a dark place.

"So who are you, old man and what can I do for you?" Ren asked the floating old man in front of him.

"Fret not, child. My name is Hagoromo, the founder of ninshu." The old man said as he introduced himself.

"You said you want to be immortal? I can help you with that. I have the elixir of life processed from the sap of Tree of Life." 

"Oh, you also want me to provide some corpse? I can help you with that. You see that tree over there? My killer tree over there has managed to kill so many thieves who were aiming for my garden."

"You want me to provide you with meat for your village? Sure, I've got tons of magic beasts being guarded by my pet."

"Oh, you want to kill me to take everything I have? I have a seed that can take all the nutrients of the land in your village leaving it barren."

"My background? I'm just a farmer. Farming in this land. Don't mind me. Look, i'm just planting seeds over here."

A man transported to another world after dying from bad luck. Instead of showing who's fist is bigger or who's d*ck is longer, he decided to not meddle on everything and built a farm for himself.

Cui Fen then bought her to a room that had a bathtub.

"Tsk, look at how dirty you are! A girl like you shouldn't have to be in this state forever." She said.

Ming Yue had a dangerous feeling but before she could move, Cui Fen had already stripped her and pushed her into the bath. She got a good look at Ming Yue's body and was slightly surprised. Her skin was smooth and without blemishes. It was still underdeveloped but she knew that in due time, Ming Yue was going to be a beauty.

Whilst cleaning, the both of them talked. They conversed about each other and had begun to bond. The both of them led harsh lives and they were glad to have found someone that shared similar pain and understood each other.

Cui Fen was forced to work as a prostitute to make ends meet. It was tough as her daughter was quite young, so she couldn't find the time to work. The owner of the brothel was understanding and helped to take care of her daughter. Soon, everyone that worked in the brothel had knew about her and worked together to clear off their debts. This meant that Cui Fen didn't have to be a prostitute. But she stayed, however this time she was only an entertainer meant to do dances and such.

Cui fen stopped reminiscing and rigorously wiped her clean and Ming Yue could do nothing to stop it. Of course, she knew that it was for her own good but she still wanted a little warning before hand. After the ordeal had passed  Ming Yue got out and felt very refreshed. For the first time in a long time, she could fully relax. These past months have always kept her on her toes and she never had a decent rest. 

She was given some undergarments by Cui Fen as the rest of her clothes were to be washed. Then Ming Yue was led to her own room where she was told to rest for the night. 

She was tired but she couldn't sleep, she was a little excited and decided to take out the Shadow Blade Arts that she had taken. The basic swords manual no longer had anything else to teach and she needed a way to improve her skills. Although the Shadow Blade Arts were not suited for her, it could at least give her some ideas on how to improve her skills or perhaps creat some new ones.

Thus, she opened the book and started reading. 

"The Shadow Blade Arts focuses on speed and silence, It is not for assassination but allows the user to send out killing blows during combat. By using light and darkness, you will confuse your enemy and take their attention away from you. Thus you will be able to attack them in a weakened state."

Ming Yue was slightly happy after reading the introduction. Her swordsmanship is primarily focused on speed and with this art she could become even faster. As she continued reading, she became happier and happier. Although she was technically was at the basic level of sword fighting, she was quite talented at it, coupled with a decent comprehension ability and she could be considered a talent.

The book described 7 moves: Shadow Slash, Hidden Darkness, Descent of the Twilight, Flashing Light, Flickering Shade, Eclipse. The first three moves are quite easy to learn but the difficulty spiked after that. Especially the final move, Eclipse, It was not the fastest move in this set but it was the deadliest. 

The Dark Shadow Trio were only able to learn up to Hidden Darkness. Although, it cannot be considered a top martial art, it was still decent enough. 

By the time, Ming Yue had finished looking over the book, the sun had begun to rise. Realizing that the night was already over, she decided to cultivate for a bit. After the multiple fights, she wanted to check the changes in her body.

While the Human Realm focused on training the body, there was internal and external training. While external training could be done with body tempering, internal training was done by moving your inner force all throughout the 12 channels of your body, strengthening the bones, blood, organs, etc. Both ways are quite painful but not excruciating, of course pills can be taken to lessen the pain or improve your cultivation rate. Although the cultivation stage is a general indicator of  strength, it does not dictate everything. There are also other things like talent, skills, weapons that affect your strength. It is possible to defeat someone  of a higher stage but even then it is a difficult feat to achieve.

As of right now, Ming Yue could be said to be closing in at the peak of the 2nd level. Before, she was at the middle stages, however with her current ability, she could contend with someone of the third stage. 

She winced in pain as she moved her inner force throughout each meridian. She was still not quite adept at using it an so she could only cultivate slowly and carefully. If she did not do so, it would risk causing severe damage. She didn't have a proper cultivation method, and could only pass her inner force through points where the pain was bearable. This method was crude but with practice, she found a relatively comfortable method that seemed to to give the best results. 

Her body had begun to show signs of improvement and Ming Yue's breathing evened out. Several hours passed as her cultivation continued. Then someone began knocking on the door.

"Ming Yue? It's time to wake up!"

She got up from her bed and went to the door. She felt quite relaxed and refreshed, her mind was clear and she even had a little smile on her face. She opened it and was greeted by Cui Fen, who had brought a bowl of congee with her. It was simple but it had lots of toppings on it like green onions, bits of fish, etc. It was delicious. 

After, Ming Yue finished eating, Cui Fen brought her around and introduced her to everyone as her savior. They all complimented her beauty while thanking her. Then a girl around 10 years appeared out of no where. She was cute and had a bright smile on her face. 

"This is my daughter, Rou'er. Rou'er, this is Ming Yue", said Cui Fen. 

Rou'er turned and faced Ming Yue.

"Did you save my mother?", she said as she stared at Ming Yue's face.

Ming Yue nodded and was pleasantly greeted by a hug from her. 

"Thank You!" said Rou'er. 

She smiled and hugged her back telling her that it was not a problem.

After meeting with everyone, Cui Fen left Ming Yue as she had some tasks to do. Taking this opportunity she put on her Floating Breeze Robes that she bought and went to find the same shop from before. She was curious about the ring that she had taken from the trio and wanted to see what secrets it had.

After putting on her clothes and slippers, she took her sword and went out.

Born from tragedy, she wields a blade of death, shining under the moonlight. Each swing takes hundreds of lives, each step leaves a trail of corpses, every move capable of dividing the stars. Her journey is not for the faint of heart as it is a solitary path drenched in blood. But only on this road will she will heal from the scars of the past.

A Senior Apprentice Sister like an insane killer.

That was Lu Sheng's first impression of White Face.

As he followed Song Zi'an forward into the cave, the cave began to slope downwards. Strangely, however, the water between the gaps in the stone still flowed towards the mouth of the cave.

"Don't touch the stream under our feet. It's lethal poison… even we… can't resist it," Song Zi'an reminded ominously.

"Mm." Lu Sheng nodded. Actually, without his reminder, Lu Sheng himself had already noticed the source of the stream.

On the right side in the cave, a giant single-horned black python lay in slumber, its huge mouth unconsciously wide agape. Massive volumes of thick, viscous saliva were dripping out of the corner of its mouth.

As the saliva flowed away from the black python, however, it inexplicably became diluted. What began with the width of an arm was a small river in the distance, multiplying in volume until it filled the gaps between the stones.

"This is the guardian of the Sect—Mi. You can call her Miss Mi," Song Zi'an introduced. "But Miss Mi is deep in sleep most of the time, and flies into rage each time she wakes. Best not to be too near, lest you be eaten."

Lu Sheng nodded, at a loss for words.

They continued forward. After the time it took to brew a pot of tea, they finally caught sight of a glimmer of light ahead. The massive face of a rock wall soon emerged in Lu Sheng's view.

It was a gargantuan and brightly lit stone wall, riddled with caves carved into the face of the wall, packed densely together like a beehive. Each cave was sealed by a stone door and seemed to be inhabitable.

A rugged stone pillar stood before the rock wall, with a massive blood-colored symbol painted on it. In the darkness, the pillar released a gloomy, melancholic, and bloodthirsty glow.

"This is the central zone of our sect. All these caves are inhabitable. You will have to pick one and settle down in it. On top of that, the Sect is now governed by the Grand Elder. Let me lead you to him now," Song Zi'an explained.

Lu Sheng nodded. "I'll trouble you then."

Both of them followed the steps on the stairs to the right of the rock wall all the way up. Lu Sheng clearly sensed an immense power monitoring and scanning every inch of earth in the cave ever since he had entered, much like in White Bell City.

It was an immensely profound force, unfathomably deep. The moment he stepped on the flight of stone stairs, he felt as if he had walked into an extremely viscous sea of sludge; pressure weighed down on him all over his body and even the circulation of inner Qi within him was impeded.

"Oh, right. This place is under the protection and suppression of the sect's Divine Weapon shard. You may feel uncomfortable here, but it'll get better once you get used to it," Song Zi'an explained again.

Lu Sheng did not say a word; he merely nodded to indicate his comprehension.

The two of them continued up the stairs until they reached the topmost row of caves in the stone wall. They came to a halt before the most central cave.

"Dong Dong Dong."

Song Zi'an knocked on the stone door.

"Come in." The clear but deep voice of an elderly man rang out from within.

Slowly, the stone door shifted aside and Song Zi'an led Lu Sheng into the cave.

A warm yellow candle glow lit up the interior of the cave. The insides of the cave were lined with yellow candlesticks. Yellow wooden tables and chairs were scattered around the room. A soft white carpet lay under their feet and several clean white robes were hung on the wall.

An ancient man with a face wrinkled like bark was seated behind the table, slowly reading a paper book.

"I've brought him here, Grand Elder," Song Zi'an said loudly.

"You've worked hard, Zi'an." The old man lifted his head with a smile, his murky eyes landing on Lu Sheng.

"Welcome, young brother Lu. If you've made up your mind to stay, you can take your pick along the caves and settle down in it. Just stay for a night, and we'll take it that you've confirmed your decision."

"I've confirmed my decision to stay," Lu Sheng said placidly.

"Very well then. I'm the Grand Elder of the Prime Devil Sect, Liu Shanzi. Presently, there're a total of three Elders in the sect, two Deacons, and the number of disciples varies. Every morning the bell will sound twice. It indicates the start of my morning lesson. You may choose to either attend my lesson or confine yourself to your cave. Nobody will disturb you. When you go into solitary confinement, remember to hang the sign outside your cave."

Lu Sheng nodded in understanding.

"Should there be anything you need to seek clarification about, you can ask Zi'an. He's always stationed in the cemetery adjacent to the stone wall in the sect," Grand Elder Liu Shanzi explained.

"Alright, if there're no other questions, you can go back and rest. Tomorrow morning we begin lessons." He seemed rather disinterested. Although he was briefing Lu Sheng, the process felt rather mechanical and even the smile on his face felt forced. He felt distant.

Lu Sheng was led away by Song Zi'an.

Watching the stone door to his cave shut slowly, Grand Elder Liu Shanzi sighed by his table.

The sect was going downhill. Ever since their mining district was seized by the Nine Bells Sect, the sect disciples' basic cultivation resources were no longer guaranteed. As a result, many of them have left.

They were finding it increasingly difficult to recruit new disciples in the first place, but now it was like rubbing salt onto wound.

Without resources, nobody would be willing to toil for the sect for nothing in return. The disciples were gone and so nobody was left to even maintain the patrols. The sect could not maintain even its basic vigilance.

And now, this new disciple from Shangyang Family would most probably leave in disappointment before long as well. After all, this was a sect that could not guarantee one even the most basic cultivation resources. What was the point in joining it?

Liu Shanzi sighed at length, walked to the side of his cave and peered out through his wooden window.

His gaze landed on the stone pillar erected beneath, dazed.

Outside the caves on the topmost level of the rock wall...

"Junior Apprentice Brother Lu, take your pick. Remember, you must not leave our cave after night falls. Now that there're no patrol teams in the sect, should you meet with danger, you've got to hold it out on your own till dawn... before anyone will come to your aid." Song Zi'an smiled at Lu Sheng.

"I got it." Lu Sheng nodded. "On top of that, I'd like to ask Senior Apprentice Brother: where is the sect's library? I'm personally extremely interested in miscellaneous studies."

"The library's at the back of the rock wall. You'll see it if you walk around it. You may peruse any of the books at will, as long as you don't damage them." After the basic orientation, Song Zi'an slowly descended down the stairs.

The manner in which he walked was bizarre; instead of walking step by step, he seemed to float horizontally, without the ups and downs that accompanied usual walking.

Lu Sheng watched as he left. Only when he disappeared at the edge of the stairs did he turn around to look at the caves before him.

Some of the caves were open, while some were sealed. Those that were open emanated a gloomy, ominous air and looked devoid of life. As for those that were sealed, chilly gusts of air would blow out through their windows, sending chills that pierced to the bones.

"This sect..." Lu Sheng was at a loss for words to describe it. He walked past the caves on the topmost level. Finally, at the extreme left of the stone wall near its end, he picked a cave as his place of dwelling.

The cave was wide open, and furniture like tables, chairs, shelves, and cupboards was complete, albeit all made of stone. A heavy musky odor permeated the air in the cave.

Lu Sheng placed his luggage in the cupboard and found the locking mechanism on the stone door. It was half of a sphere adhered to the door, which required a key to open.

The key, a piece of intricately shaped metal, was placed on the tabletop in the cave.

Lu Sheng picked up the piece of metal and hung it on himself. Without further ado, he left his cave and descended down the stairs.

Before long, he was standing before the stone wall once again, gazing at the hundreds of caves staring at him on the wall. His gaze swept from left to right. On both sides of the wall, he could see paths that led to the back.

Lu Sheng chose the path on the left and slowly walked along it.

In the darkness, the stone wall released a faint white hue which mixed with the red glow from the stone pillar, creating a pale blood color which permeated the cavern and split it into two zones—one black and one red.

The red zone was the area lit up by the glow. The black zone was the area shrouded in pitch black darkness.

Lu Sheng quickly walked to the edge of the red glow and paused for a short moment. Before long, he continued and stepped into the inky blackness.

Even without light, however, he could still discern the objects and lay of the land before him through the extremely faint refracted light with his extremely acute senses.

Lu Sheng sped up along the path until he reached a bridge which spanned a crevice that dropped into thick grey fog, which churned as if alive. Many wooden planks on the tattered and worn bridge were already rotten. A careless misstep, and one would fall straight down into the abyss.

Lu Sheng stood at the head of the bridge and gazed into the opposite end of the bridge.

Across the bridge, a series of black towers rose up from the ground. Apparently, those were the library that Song Zi'an had mentioned.

"Hoo..."

Gusts of bone-piercingly chilly wind blew up from the abyss underneath the bridge. Even Lu Sheng's hair stood on ends.

This sensation seemed to originate more from a coldness which he felt in his heart than in his body.

He regulated his breathing, then took a step forward and planted it firmly on the bridge.

"Boom!"

Without warning, he shot forward like a bolt of lightning, the tip of his toes tapping several times on the metal chains linking both sides of the bridge. In the blink of an eye, he was across the hundred meter long bridge.

"Thud."

Lu Sheng landed lightly on the other side of the crevice and turned around to look at the bridge, which swung from left to right in the wind. He relaxed and let out a breath of air.

"This Prime Devil Sect... no wonder not many are willing to come during their recruitment..." He shook his head and continued forward.

A group of towers faced him, standing cold and aloof. The entire group of buildings was surrounded by a tall black wall. Its entrance was right ahead of Lu Sheng, with a giant signboard hung above it.

The words on the board were written neatly in ancient Song script with red ink.

Lu Sheng glanced at the ajar door. Through it, he could see that the courtyard was completely empty, without a soul within.

He strode in unceremoniously and was greeted immediately with a thick musky odour.

"Creak..."

Pushing open the doors of a building right in front of him, rows after rows of bookshelves emerged in his view.

Casually, he picked a shelf at random and saw that it was packed with books.

"A Medical History of Song Dynasty", "The Beginnings of Divine Weapons", "Myths and Reality", "On the Heavenly Signs", "Ice and Fire: The Mutual Counteracting of the Elements"...

This myriad of books looked like they had been kept uncared for. Lu Sheng pulled out "The Beginnings of Divine Weapons". A fine layer of mould had grown on its cover, and it felt coarse and cold to the touch.

He scanned from left to right and discovered a wall lamp, which he lit up with his flint stone.

Immediately, a pale yellow glow lit up in the room. Lu Sheng carried the book to a table and sat down on a chair. After lighting up the desk lamp as well, he began flipping the book open and reading it, ignoring the green mold.

The book narrated how the Noble Families had fought the great terrors of the world in the beginning, gradually forming an equilibrium against the demons and ghosts, winning a place for humans in the world.

Casting aside the parts of the book that lauded the Noble Families, the records of several major historical events in the book greatly helped Lu Sheng to better understand the history of the Noble Families in the Song Dynasty. But the supposed "great terrors" in the book were not described in detail. From the vague mentions, they did not seem to belong to the category of demons or ghosts.

He continued reading in his seat. Unbeknownst to him, several hours flew by.

Demons, devils, ghosts and monsters

Lu Sheng was an ordinary civil servant in the modern world. After waking from a drunken stupor one day, he found himself trapped in a dangerous world where demons, ghosts and supernatural monsters terrorize the land. 

In this world, ordinary mortals live in dark fear and helplessness, without any means to fight against the supernatural. 

As Lu Sheng struggles desperately for survival, he stumbles upon a game mod he had designed for a mobile phone app in his previous life. It unexpectedly becomes his special ability, which enables him to instantly level up any skill he learns, albeit at a cost.

Thus, Lu Sheng begins his journey, striving for power beyond the reach of a mortal as he treads the way of the Devil…
