Prologue

At the age of 30, James Filler was considered one of the top players in 'Another Fantasy Online'.
Having played for 20 years or rather 140 years in-game he managed to leave a lasting impression on the world as the game's most powerful undead. If one were to watch his adventures from beginning to end, only one word would describe him, 'Godly'.
Much like most players, he started out playing as a human. Dying from swarms of lv1 rabbit, lv1 birds, drowning in the city fountain, dying from a dropped vase, getting ran over by... well let's just say he died a lot in the beginning.
To be honest his fate only really started changing once he encountered some crazy hag who mutilated his body by slowly wrenching off the skin, muscles, and body tissue from his bones.
Now before you say:
'That's not true! The game can't be that brutal, right?'
'It's impossible, if that's the case then how come nobody else experienced this?!'
'He would have died from the damage taken, so how was he still alive?!'
Just hear me out.
We all know A.F.O (Another Fantasy Online) has its moments when it shows its sadistic side, negating player damage, for a 'more immersive experience' during special quests or events.
Fortunately, the game reduced his pain sensitivity to 20%; unfortunately, I don't think it helped much because he still screamed like a banshee.
After the torture had ended, he discovered his status no longer read 'Human', rather it read 'High Undead Skeleton'. Dissatisfied, he started cursing his luck and the heavens until he realized the perks of this change. As a High Undead he no longer had a hunger stat, gained infinite stamina, and as a race bonus he received a substantial amount of bonus stats for himself and his summoned undead.
By this point everything really started to ameliorate. He started slaughtering his way through monster infested areas gaining level after level; after rising to lv100, he unlocked the racial ability 'Bone Guard', allowing him to summon 4 skeleton guards that had around two-thirds of his stats.
Even though he was doing better by this point; his luck was still terrible. When trying to prank scare a Npc his skull got smashed in by falling stones, he was frequently used as a chew toy by a Cerberus that continuously chased after him, and a few more incredibly awkward/embarrassing things.
Hahaha, *Wipes away tears from laughter*
While I could keep you hear reminiscing about the good times, I think we all want to get to the part that matters.
10 years after he started playing A.F.O James created the dungeon we all know and love, 'Dominion'. For those that don't know, this dungeon spans about one hundred floors and is capable of merging into ten super floors. The type of monsters that could occupy the floors are golems, forest and mountain type monsters, undead, higher class undead, and demons; as of right now the remaining types are a unknown.
Over the course of a few years, in-game, he spent his time building his dungeon's power and sustainability in prelude to the 'Rise of the Demon King Event'. During this event he managed to go from lv363 to lv603 through conquest and Indulging himself in the mass genocide of all living creatures who stood in his path; he was truly one of the only players who embodied a true demon king, even to this day.
*Sigh*
A little more than six months ago we discovered he caught the XE15A virus from an individual within his apartment building. As most or all you should know this virus is an ongoing pandemic and those that get infected will die within the first six months if not treated.
 ***While there currently isn't a cure the first batch should be created six months from now.

After being told that there was currently no cure and that it would be possible to prolong his life until the cure could be created, he decided to turn down their offer and not live a life knee high in debt. Rather than waiting a year, he expressed his desire to be quarantined and to spend the remainder of his life playing A.F.O...
I received a call from him about a week ago asking me to post his story on the forums so he could forever be a part of the game or something like that, on the day of his passing. To be honest, I just wished he wasn't so stubborn and asked me for money to help treat him, but he wouldn't put his pride aside and accepted thing as is.

After waiting a short moment, the system calmly responded [The race High Undead was removed do to it purely being redundant. Lich, Death Knight, and Pure-Blooded Vampires could all be considered High Undead. To make the world more engaging, all elements that could break the feeling of immersion has been removed]
After thinking about its James realize that this was technically not wrong; rather than calling a skeleton High Undead Skeleton another title could be given, such as Skeleton King or Skeleton Knight. Even though he didn't want to give up on the class that made him who he was, he was still looking forward to making another legend.
With a face full of dejection, James began depressively scrolling through the list of races once more. Suddenly, he had an epiphany, throwing his head up he excitedly asked, "Rather than deciding on a race within this list, would it be possible for me to create a race?"

"Okay" Alex and Evelyn ran towards the pond. Evelyn suggested rushing because she wanted to leave this damned place as soon as possible.

Evelyn was surprised how Alex found this secret place in the forest. The path was covered with lush grass covering half of their bodies. Normally in a forest, everyone would think twice before trading this path. She was surprised to see how he found a path in his condition.

"Ahmm...Alex could you stay near...I am afraid something might happen to you!" Evelyn suggests as she was shy to ask him to stay near while she was half naked bathing and was also afraid to leave him alone.

Alex smiled since he knew her concern and revealed his cultivation.

The Universe System sighed at his smiling face, she knew his cheerful and easy going mood was due to the overlapping of his child version and cold-faced mature version. He sat near a humungous tree filled with dark red, and purple fruits. The whole tree looked creepy with roots looked like charred on fire and the whole atmosphere near the tree felt eerie and dark. He was surprised to see a tree rearing two fruits at the same time. Even in his previous owner's memories, there aren't any memories regarding this tree.

"So the tree is called as Blood moon devil tree! Do you know why there aren't any monster near the surrounding area? And why don't my previous body owner has any information regarding this kind of tree?" he asked the Universe System.

"First, not only monsters even humans don't dare to take a 100 meters near this tree because this tree is omnivores and can swallow a 100 Star essence layer expert as a whole. And the fruits are poisonous enough to kill a Star Qi conversion expert in seconds and Core formation expert in minutes and Planetary Fusion expert in days. James Redforest, Alex's father, sat in a table surrounded by his children. The son of the first wife stood with an indifferent expression like the death of his mother doesn't mean anything to him.

James looked at his eldest son, Charles and asked, "Charles aren't you angry at me for killing your mother?"

James asked while looking at the dead bodies on the ground.

When James returned for the Star Essence gathering ceremony, he found Alex missing from the group. 

He turned towards her 1st wife and questioned her about his absence. The 1st wife started sweating under his gaze even though she prepared for a proper answer.

Forcing her courage, she revealed everything. She described how a scum Alex was how she showed mercy by only crippling him not taking his life. She made it look like she was a saint.

But when she finished, a loud slap rang across her cheek making her fly towards the wall. The slap was strong enough to kill a Star Essence Layer expert, but luckily the 1st wife's servant was present at the direction where she flew. She crashed into her servant and missed her death by cushioning herself on the servant's body. The servant was only at 5th stage Purification, so he died from the impact. 

The 1st wife coughed out a large amount of blood and teeth with only a couple of teeth still intact in her mouth. She looked with disbelief at her husband, she never thought her husband would strike against her. She looked at his furious expression and though where did she made a mistake at her plan.

At the time the hall was filled with his sons, concubines, and servants. They were dumbfounded to look at the condition of the first wife laying on the ground. Most of her teeth were on the ground, her left cheek was puffed like a balloon, she lost her previous grace and wailed like a pig.

"Do I look like a fool to you?" James shouted. As an expert nearing the legendary Core Formation stage, he could find out whether one was lying or speaking truth via the flow of Qi inside the heart. As a peak expert in the Star Qi Conversion stage, his Spirit Vision can nearly deduce any secrets.

But here he didn't have to use his Spirit Vision because one's eyes dart towards Upper Right when saying lies and towards the upper left if remembering something. He could guess that she was lying with her eyes and excessive movement of her hands. This is basically known knowledge between the higher officials of the kingdom.

He ordered the servants to bring the girls who stated that Alex had raped them. After a minute everyone arrived with their leg's shaking and sweat all over their faces. Looking at their expression, James knew the servant had revealed what happened here and asked them to play alone with the first wife. 

He used his Qi to pressure the girls in front of him and asked whether they said against his son was true. Feeling the pressure of an expert below only to the king, the girl felt their feet give away and fell down. In fear of their lives they spoke the spilled the beans in front of everyone and the promise made by first wife. 

Hearing this James was furious beyond everyone's imagination. Everyone inside the mansion started feeling the pressure from his wrath.

Within a second the bodies of the girl exploded like a water balloon spraying blood over a meter. While only his wife died with her bodies intact. His did this in mind for his first son, he wanted his first son to atleast bury her.

Charles looked at his father with a hint of pain and replied, "Sigh! Father, I'm just disappointed, not angry. She loved her wealth more than she loved me and the things she did disgust me. So I am not angry at what father did, but still I feel like you could've shown her some mercy." Charles was mature and intilligent compared to his all siblings and hence loved by everyone in the mansion. Where the only one charles loves most is the second wife of his father. She was the one breast fed him instead of his birth mother. He grew and matured with the love of his step mother.

James sighed in relief that his eldest son didn't hate him. Even though he didn't have a talent for cultivation, he had a high mentality and good judgment. That put him in the top on the line for the next City Lord. He still didn't know why the first wife would do something like this. He even promised  her that the next city lord will only be his first born son.

James looked at his children and asked, "So why didn't you all help your little brother when he was in a trouble?"

Everyone was quite, they looked down not even having the courage to look at their father's eyes. James sighed in disappointment knowing how cowards his son's are.

Charles further explained everything. Charles explained how biased the first wife treated Alex with no cultivation resources, stopped his allocated money, made him live at servants quarters and how she made up everything yesterday. Charles also added how she used Evelyn's weakness and with the help of butler he presented the proof.

James felt angry knowing how his son got treated on his own house; he shouted, "Why didn't anyone say anything? You guys let me stand like a fool and played by the bitch's hand." James never felt so angry in his life.

Rather than feeling guilty, he felt fear after thinking about his 9th wife. If she ever knows what happened to her son, she would kill me. 

Seeing their father sweating in fear, Charles and others felt confused.

James then chased everyone out and took a transmission device from his pocket and shouted. Everyone left knowing the ceremony wouldn't be held today.

"Laura! Where are you? Laura...Laura..." He was tapping his legs waiting for the other side to reply. He was waiting for ten minutes continuously waiting for a reply. He nearly crushed the costly device in anger.

"Hey! What's up!"

After ten minutes, a lazy and annoyed voice came from the device.

"Laura! What are you doing there? I'm calling you for ten minutes!" James shouted.

"What are you shouting for?" the voice still sounded lazy and indifferent.

"And would you call me afterwards, I am quite busy now?" Before he can reply, she said and cut the device off again.

After eating breakfast and talking with his family James went to his room as he tried to remember about the Fat butler of his house who was sweating hard when he refused to drink/eat the chicken soup.

As James was thinking hard he remembered that the butler came around two months ago when He was taken as apprentice by the present Magic King.

"Your majesty, Its n..not that we don't want to support prince Eli..... B..but the people want another prince as the crown prince."
"That's right your highness.... the other day there were thousands of people gathered in the black market who wanted prince Eli removed as crown prince".
"Your highness, prince James in particular cares about the people very much... He gave them gave food and money, for them to take care of themselves"

Alec looked at his ministers and sneered.
A bunch of cowards....Fear was, and had always been the only way that he could control them.
"Now, let's talk about the upcoming assignments... How do you all plan to divide the work?"
"M... my lord.... So far, we have lost 5 cities around the border... So we propose that since there are 3 prince's, let each prince head over to each city and try to take them back." A brave minister answered instantly.
"Yes my lord.... As for the other 2 cities, we had already sent letters to City Lord Shannon of the West, and City lord Barrang of the South, telling them about their mission." Another minister added.
Actually, the ministers did this so that if 1 of the other prince's did well in the battle, their king would be impressed and willingly change Eli as the crown prince.
This was their plan B.
"Good..... Let each prince and the 2 city lords be the main leaders in charge of securing the cities.

The big screen had already started replaying the punch from all sorts of different angles. What could be seen was a simple hook by Taylor, nothing fancy, hitting Saunders right in the middle of his face, followed by another hook that knocked Saunders to the ground. Analyzed from a technical perspective, no controversies surrounded these two punches.
"Why didn't Saunders dodge? That punch wasn't fancy, it wasn't even that fast, it looked ordinary. Even I could see Taylor's punch trajectory clearly, Saunders," someone said.
"It's not that he didn't want to dodge, it was that he couldn't dodge. That's how it is with Taylor's punch; you can see it clearly, but you can't dodge it," another person answered.
James King stared at the big screen with his mouth wide open, his expression too complex to be described with words. Taylor's attack just now was way too familiar to James King.
Using footwork and rapid body sways to approach his opponents while confusing them with feints, then a simple and straightforward punch. That was the typical attack from Taylor. From the perspective of a spectator, Taylor's punches could be easily dodged, but from the point of view of his opponents, Taylor's punch was unavoidable.
That was Taylor the boxing champion; even when the world knew how he was going to fight, even if his opponents were informed earlier of his attack methods, they would still fail to avoid that lethal punch in the ring.
"But he's 32 years old now, how can he still throw out punches like that?" James King mumbled to himself.
James King had been Taylor's agent for over a decade, and he understood Taylor better than anyone. Taylor's attack method had long been imprinted in James King's mind, and it would never fade away. James King had initially thought that Taylor's body had deteriorated as he aged, and he would never attack like that again. That was the reason he did not favor Taylor in the fight.
At that moment, James King had a feeling; he felt as if Taylor had returned to his peak from a decade ago. The Taylor back then delivered attacks like that to his opponents, attacks that were exactly the same as the one he used today!
Could it be that he has returned to his condition from before? A sudden sense of fear arose in James King's heart. He understood better than most how strong Taylor was when he was at his peak.
Impossible, it's definitely impossible. Taylor is old. There is absolutely no way he can return to his condition from when he was younger!

In the boxing ring, Taylor was at a loss. He looked at the referee who was bent over on the floor in front of Saunders, checking to see if Saunders could continue the fight. If the referee were to confirm that Saunders could no longer continue, then he would announce Taylor's victory.
However, Taylor's baffled look made it appear as though he did not know what had happened, as if he wasn't the one who had thrown that punch.
KO'd just like that? That easy? Taylor looked suspiciously at his fist.
Saunders was not a newbie boxer; he had become the tenth ranked title challenger of the WBC, which meant that his strength was among the world's first class boxers. Moreover, he was a boxer who was skilled in defense.
However, Taylor felt that he had won too easily. He had only needed a straightforward attack to put Saunders on the ground.
Why was Saunders' defense so weak? Taylor recalled the attack and examined it in detail, then suddenly realized something.
No, it wasn't that Saunders was weak, it was that my attack was too perfect. When I attacked just now, whether it was speed, agility, or my body's explosive power, they were exceptional, just like a decade ago! Yes, the feeling during my attack was exactly the same as ten years ago!

Surman, the WBC president, had just attended an event and was currently seated in an airport lounge, waiting for the boarding announcement.
The broadcast announced that the flight was delayed due to weather conditions. Surman frowned in resignation.
Oh, that's right. Taylor's comeback match was today, I wonder how his fight with Saunders went. Surman waved at his assistant.
His assistant left and made a call to inquire about the fight, then walked back swiftly.
"Mr. President, the fight is over. Kevin Taylor KO'd Saunders," the assistant said.
"That fast?" Surman checked his watch. "The match should have just started, right? Did they start the match early?"
"No, Mr. President, the match started on time. However, the match was decided in a only one round." The assistant thought briefly before continuing, "To be precise, after the match began, Taylor only needed one attack to KO Saunders."
"One attack to KO an opponent!" Surman sucked in a breath of cold air and mumbled to himself, "Don't tell me the Kevin Taylor from before has returned!"

Dai Li walked out of the hotel casino with a big smile on his face, as well as a 1.59 million dollar check.
Dai Li had placed a 50,000 dollar bet on Taylor winning in the first round, and the odds were 41, so Dai Li won a total of 2.05 million dollars. However, earnings from bets were taxable, so the amount Dai Li actually received was not as high.
The winnings from buying lottery tickets were taxable in the US, and the taxes included federal tax, state tax, and personal income tax. Among them, the federal tax was fixed at 25%; the state tax, on the other hand, differed according to each state. In Nevada, it was 6.5%. The personal income tax ratios were based on the different levels of personal annual income. Americans would voluntarily declare their tax returns after winning the lottery. There was once a news report on an American who had won a huge prize worth 200 million dollars; however, in the end, he only received 80 million dollars, a total of 62% being deducted as tax.
As a city based on gambling, the taxation laws in Las Vegas were more complicated. There were a lot of tax deductions and tax exemption policies in place even for foreigners. If a foreigner were to win money at a casino in Las Vegas, they were not required to personally declare tax returns like an American. They just needed to show their passport, and the casino would directly deduct 33% of the winnings as tax, while the remainder of the winnings would be returned to the winner.
Although Dai Li had suddenly paid several hundred thousand dollars of tax, he still earned a good amount from his gamble. Over 1.5 million dollars. And that was the income after tax. It was already enough for Dai Li to purchase state-of-the-art training equipment.
I'll treat Taylor to something good! He even had to cut down on what he ate. Dai Li thought for a moment before dialing Taylor's number.
If it were the Taylor from before, he would have gone to the casino and spent a few million dollars on gambling, before searching for a few hot chicks to take to bed. Dai Li found Taylor on the observation deck of the hotel. He sat there in silence, just like before the match.
"What are you thinking?" Dai Li walked over and sat beside Taylor before continuing, "Before the match, you were worried that you couldn't beat Saunders, now you've won. Why do you still look like this? Buddy, you should be celebrating right now."
"Coach Li, I've won, but I feel weird. Now that I think about it, I don't even know how I actually won," Taylor said in a troubled voice.
"You're stronger than Saunders! A beautiful punch combo hit Saunders, and then he fell down. It was that simple." Dai Li mimicked a punching gesture.
"No, that's not what I mean. You watched the match. I only used one attack to KO Saunders, but he shouldn't be that weak," Taylor said.
"It's not that he's weak, it's that you are strong enough. That's why you managed to completely obliterate him." Dai Li looked at Taylor with an expression that seemed like a smile but wasn't a smile.
"I feel weird." Taylor shook his head. "To tell you the truth, my body has been feeling weird since the match, but I can't pinpoint exactly what is wrong. I don't know how to describe this feeling."
"It must be the feeling of youth!" Dai Li was still all smiles.
"Feeling of youth?" Taylor nodded in confusion; he thought that Dai Li's description was spot on.
"Do you remember what I told you before that I would do my best to let your body return to its condition from when you were 27 years old? Looks like the effects of my training are finally showing." Dai Li looked satisfied.
"What did you say? Body returning to the condition of a 27-year-old? Is this true?" Taylor widened his eyes. He naturally found Dai Li's words hard to believe.
"Don't look at me like that, and don't think that this is somehow amazing. Sports and exercise can make a person younger. There are many real examples. The rich can remain strong and healthy if they maintain a training habit, even if they are 60 or 70 years old. And in medical science, sports and exercise can also improve blood circulation and metabolism, restoring the bodily functions of an individual. If you frequent some of the high-end gyms, you will notice that many people look far younger than their actual age." Dai Li used an excuse to cover it up.
"What you mean to say is that all of this is the result of my training?" Taylor asked, his eyes bulging.
"What else could it be? Or maybe you think I'm a wizard, and all I have to do is chant a few incantations to make you young?" Dai Li stood up and laughed as he patted Taylor on the shoulders. He then continued speaking, "Kevin, you have to be more confident, and even more so, you have to have faith in me. I will do my best to maintain your excellent condition, but you also have to maintain the high-intensity training. If you return to being like before, drinking, smoking marijuana, and having at women without restrictions, then even I won't be able to help you anymore."

Mason was a well-known boxing commentator. He was correct in many of his predictions for important boxing matches, and so he was regarded "The Light of Betting" in boxing matches. A lot of boxing magazines would invite him to write in, and bookmakers would pay him consulting fees. And his blog had even more fans and followers, many of whom bet in boxing matches. When an important boxing match was coming up, Mason's blog would get a dramatically increased number of visits.
Mason frequently placed bets as well. After all, he was a professional in these sorts of things, and as an insider, he had earned quite a lot from boxing match betting.
However, in the match that just ended, Mason stumbled like a horse that had just lost its front hooves. He predicted that Saunders would defeat Taylor, and he even wrote a few long articles on it, analyzing from multiple perspectives. And the end result was Saunders getting KO'd by Taylor in the first round.
Taylor actually won, and he won so easily. Wasn't Saunders skilled at defending? How did he get knocked down so easily? He's lost me several thousand dollars! Mason stared at his betting ticket on the table in a depressed mood. Initially, he had hoped to earn some extra cash from the match before having fun for a few days in Las Vegas, but now he had lost money, and not just his bet, but his hotel accommodation fees as well.
Damn Taylor, he's already 32 years old, but he can still fight like that! Mason pressed himself against the sofa in anger, grabbed his laptop, and opened his blog. Hundreds of comments appeared instantly before Mason's eyes.
"Didn't you say it was a sure-win for Saunders? He ended up being KO'd in the first round."
"You're a liar. You understand nothing, you're all talk, your prediction was completely off, and I'll never listen to your lies anymore."
"Idiot, I listened to your pre-match prediction. You made me lose 500 dollars!"
"Your blog said that Taylor was no more, is your face now swollen?"
Comment after comment, each one of them insulting Mason, some even directly cursing him.
"These bastards. All of them gave me likes when they first heard my prediction, now, after losing just one match, they're already cursing me!" Mason felt angry, but he had nowhere to vent his anger.
"No! I have to make sense of my previous prediction! If not, the spit from these fans will be enough to drown me." Mason frowned in thought for a long time before opening up a blank document and keying in the following title:
"Kevin Taylor's victory was only a coincidence."


How could a poor graduate student without any background or connections become successful? With a coaching system? An upgrade? This is not a computer game, but real life we’re talking about!

Chapter 149

"I don't think we're going to be able to bring this thing down." BurningJazzHands was sitting in the seat of a massive anti-aircraft artillery weapon. It was launching deadly blasts towards the M.I.N.E. Craft, which was still continuing to descend. It had been descending for about five minutes now, and BLANKs party had only managed to take away a quarter of its life. At that rate, they weren't going to be able to burn through it, no matter how hard they tried.

"Maybe if we had the others help?" CheapHealz was sitting a similar cannon, launching attack after attack at the falling craft. The party had come across a clearing with two cannons near each other, and promptly manned them. The reason BurningJazzHands and CheapHealz were manning the guns, was because it seemed level didn't apply to the weapons. They did a set amount of damage per shot, regardless of who was sitting in them. There were similar cannons across the map, some of which were currently being armed by Philoso raptors. One was actually being manned by an Archeao-repairer, which really amused James.

His other mobs had quickly headed towards the other turrets, but James had decided to manually step in for this fight. After all, he wanted the invaders dead, and he wasn't certain they would die, if the M.I.N.E. Craft was destroyed. However, he also didn't want them to feel like it was impossible, so he allowed some of the mobs to man the turrets. James was actually sending a few more towards some turrets, in order to increase the DPS as well. He needed BLANKs players to feel like they were going to make it, to keep them around longer.

"Well, if it gets too close, we can just leave." SoulDemon grunted as he cut into another mob. James had instructed a small group of his mobs to attack the party as they worked on the boss mob. That kept them engaged in his floor, and he was hoping would throw off their timing. All he needed was for them to make a single mistake, in order to bring them down. Really, all he needed was for SoulDemon to go down. But the Phantom Blade was extremely formidable. Even with his stats cut in half by Dino Aids. Normally, Dino Aids could be cleansed by a high-level cleanse spell. However, James had mutated it with an ability called Antimagical Resistance.

The upgrade gave Dino Aids a percent chance to resistant being cleansed. The more magical healing a player had received during the instance, the more resistant Dino Aids became. And since SoulDemon had been the soul adventurer of the party gaining massive amounts of magical healing during the fight…his version of Dino Aids was practically immune to healing. Which was great, because even after CheapHealz used his high-level cleanse on the party, curing the others of Dino Aids, SoulDemon's version had transferred back over to them after a mere minute, giving them the upgraded, magically resistant, version. James had made another note that he sent to Rue on a delayed timeline, to remind him to make Dino Aids deadlier. Halved stats were great, but he was pretty certain there were some stacks or dots he could apply to it as well with his disease menu. He was going to create the perfect, deadly disease, and take down a lot of BLANK players with it. Huzzah virtual bio-warfare.

"Good thing these dinosaurs aren't coming too quickly." SpinToWin added as his shields blocked a long-range artillery blast from a siege version of a Steamer. James currently had two of them posted up a good ways away, to rain down attacks on the party. Meanwhile, he was sending in triceracogs and the occasional velocity raptor pack to keep the party busy. His coup de grace was going B.L.U. who had respawned. James was certain the party had to be aware of mob respawn rates. And they were good enough that they had probably figured B.L.U. was up and running. That was made evident by the mass number of traps Crikey was laying all over the place.

However, James had B.L.U. waiting patiently about two hundred yards away from the party, hiding within the abandoned city, alongside three Philoso raptors. If it sounded like the party was planning on leaving, James was going to have them rush the party, in order to try and freeze their escape just enough to kill SoulDemon. He may be cautious, but James was no stranger to gaming strategy. And he had the advantage, in that he could see everything that was going on, and the fact that no one knew what exactly a core could do. After all, as far as players were concerned, the dungeons were simply run by an advanced AI.

"Incoming." CheapHealz called out even as another explosive round impacted against SpinToWin's spinning shields. Another set of debris had broken off of the M.I.N.E. Craft. It had just hit the six-minute mark on its descent, meaning it released a total of 42 pieces of debris. Both CheapHealz and BurningJazzHands turned their weapons onto the debris field, working to blast away any of the flying pieces as they rapidly began their descent.

The defensive turrets summoned by SKYNET actually seemed to have a single target, and burst option, which the players had discovered within the first minute of using the weapon. The moment the collateral pieces broke apart, the players switched to the burst option, launching large shells towards the falling debris. These shells would break apart when they reached a certain proximity of the pieces of debris, sending a bunch of shrapnel in all sorts off direction. Because of the lower hp of the debris, if any of these shrapnel pieces impacted, the debris was destroyed. It was almost like some advanced version of the archaic missile defense game James had seen in a virtual museum.

While they were working to keep the debris at bay, the other three members continued their efforts at perimeter defense. James realized the three of them were able to create essentially the perfect defensive zone. SpinToWin could keep them safe from ranged attack, Crikey could set up traps to slow and disable attackers, and SoulDemon could defeat anything that got too close. Which was likely how they went through BLANKs dungeon. They turtled their way through the dungeon, James had no doubt about it. Which was probably why SoulDemon seemed to enjoy running out in James's dungeon so much, to engage enemies from a distance. James's dungeon let him have fun.

"Sorry about this man." James whispered to the Phantom Blade as he made the realization. Like, he really did love the fact people seemed to be enjoying his dungeon. And if not for the stakes resting on this dungeon war, he was certain he wouldn't be resorting to the tactics he was. But he had to make sure BLANK was crippled in some way for the war, and the most obvious way was to decrease the amount of essence the enemy dungeon was gaining. And sadly, for SoulDemon and his party, they were the most efficient at gaining essence, meaning they needed to be destroyed.

"I'm starting to think we should pull back." SoulDemon said after another minute of fighting. The M.I.N.E. craft had been descending for a total of 7 minutes now and was getting dangerously close. Flames danced all around it, and it glowed a bright orange from the intense heat that was gathering around it. With 3 minutes remaining, they still had about 30% of its HP to take care of, as the increase in its defense every minute for the past 7 was making it even harder to burn through.

"About time." SpinToWin said, his face covered with sweat. James could only imagine how stressful the situation was getting. The world boss was drawing nearer, the attacks hadn't let up on the party, and more and more debris kept falling. All of that while they were weakened with dino aids and holding a dangerously high amount of essence. James had to admit, this was the right call.

And, unbeknownst to SoulDemon. It was the perfect time to make the call. Considering James had just watched B.L.U. get blown up by a green alien about thirty seconds ago. It seemed the world boss's ability ALIENS! hadn't lied when it said the random alien attacks would target ANY and ALL creatures on the floor. Sadly, it seemed the only two spawned at random intervals every minute. And so far, they had only spawned against James's own mobs. Which was…frustrating.

"Alright, well then lets-" SoulDemon's hand froze as he pulled out a crystal. The same type of crystal MercerEffect's team had used to head back to their dungeon. His eyes went wide with shock, just as a form materialized from a beam of green light, directly in between the group.

Hisssssssssssssss.

James hates his real life. He spends his days being bullied in school, and at home he simply reads and plays games. The only thing he has to look forward to is immersion. When he is immersed in the virtual world he can be whatever, whoever, he wants: He can escape the world that has thrown him away.

As such, when a new game, Dungeon Core Online, comes out, James is excited to play. He immerses himself as soon as he can, but when he is set to create his character he is instead offered a different choice. Now, James is the Dungeon Core and he suddenly finds himself wielding more power, with more options, than he's ever had before. The only downside... there are people in the real world who do anything, even kill, to gain the power of a Dungeon Core in the virtual world.

Death was such a complicated thing, and it did not get easier with time. Harry knew this, and felt each and every version of his parents dying. No matter how many times it happened, he still ached.

'If only this was possible to prevent,' the child groused inwardly. 

He had actually tried more than one hundred separate times to save them. Each time they still died, and each time Harry felt more helpless. More inhuman. 

'They die over and over, while I live on again and again.' 

His heart hurt, and he didn't particularly feel festive as Halloween approached. Lily was decorating the house with muggle and magical decorations. She had even come up with a plan to make a sort of in-home trick or treating for Harry, since they were all confined to the cottage and it's Fidelius Charm. A trusted adult and guard was scheduled to wait behind each cottage door. When Harry knocked, each closet or room would open to reveal a different Marauder or Order member, each holding a bowl of candy. 

'It's hard to smile when I feel so low,' Harry thought, leaning across a low coffee table set up with a coloring book and large crayons. His chubby cheek was pressed flat against the cool wood, and the frown on his face was partially squashed. The coloring book he was working on was magical in nature, and the unicorn he was currently coloring would rear and prance nervously every twenty seconds; tossing it's magnificent mane, it charged across the page when he attempted to apply some sunset orange to the spiral horn. 

'Death is only the beginning for me,' he admitted to himself, wax crayon poised above plain parchment. 'Pity it isn't the same for them. Always, always the same results.' 

It was probably a fixed point in time, which meant that nothing he did could change it. Unfortunately, there were some cases of this. No matter the interference, the event would progress even without him interacting or encouraging the situation. His parents, Sirius, Cedric, Remus; these were all deaths he had actively fought. Regardless, each lifetime he witnessed, they died the same. 

'I feel like the King in Sleeping Beauty,' Harry sighed. 'No matter how many spindles I burn, the curse still exists and comes to existence. My family is still doomed, and there's nothing a mere human can do.' 

At this point, he had a small understanding of Time, Fate, and Death. All three were Principle Primordial existences. They were endless and ageless; from a time before Time existed. And all three Principles had finite laws and ideals.

If Fate destined something to happen then it was impossible to deny it. If Time agreed with Fate, then it would happen specifically without fail on a specific date or hour. If Death made an arrangement, and Fate and Time could coincide or make stakes, then that arrangement would supersede all others. In other words, if Death decreed his parents to die at 11:52 PM and both Time and Fate agreed, then they would die before the clock could tick over the two to a three. 

Time often decreed that something specific happened to him, so that something would always happen, too. Time had decided that Harry was bitten by the basilisk fang in each reality, and somehow this always happened. 

How this came to be was sometimes strange, such as Harry accidentally hatching a basilisk from a chicken egg beneath a toad. Or worse still, when the ancient fossilized fang of a basilisk on display in a museum had managed to break his fall. Time always got it's destined end. 

Fate was kinder, but just as stubbornly stuck in place. Harry was somehow always the 'One'. No matter who he was, or what lifetime be lived. Even as a koi fish, it was his interventions that saved the world from the Dark. And wasn't that convoluted?! A koi fish saved the day, without credit. This was prejudice, that's what it was.

Toddler Harry snorted. 'A bloody koi fish saved their arses,' He taunted inwardly, picturing the faces Dumbledore had made in his office. Completely dumbfounded, the wizard would likely have lost his sanity. Perhaps that was why he had thrown himself from the astronomy tower later that same evening, all whilst cackling.

Always the same but not; that version of Dumbledore was not killed by Snape or the ring's curse. Instead, he had thrown himself from the tower, much the same as he always fell in death. Head down, eyes upwards, and sprawled out helpless. 

Death cared nothing for dignity, he knew. 

'Tonight they die,' Harry sighed silently. His heart felt heavy, painful, but this was inevitable. Anticipation was his arch nemesis, but like the Principle Entities that controlled his existence.

In a last ditch effort to show his love, Harry did his best not to bother the adults. Behaving was difficult for a toddler, but he just managed. Somehow, he wanted to make today easier for them.

"I am telling you, he's not himself today. What if he's getting sick?" Lily was talking animately in the next room. 

"We'll give him a bit of Pepper-Up at dinner. He's fine, Lils," James was telling his wife, his voice getting nearer as they spoke. No doubt he had moved closer and was now holding his wife. "He's a Potter. He'll survive this, and he'll come out on top and be amazing. At the ripe old age of one hundred and eleven he will pass gently into the next world, asleep in his bed. Loved and content with his choices."

Lily made some muffled noises, before quietly asking, "Do you really think so?" 

James sighed deeply, a sound he made often when he was holding Harry's mother tight and close. A sound reserved for her, almost like he was breathing her in. Nonetheless, it was a sound Harry heard often, at least once daily. 

Harry's heart throbbed painfully, and he tried to put the evening from his mind. Sure enough, the Floo activated, and several Order members reported an attack before most of the adults, save his parents, left. It was a violent call, something about a vicious and explosive attack on Diagon Alley. Voldemort himself was supposed to be in attendance. 

But that wasn't true, Harry knew. It was a set up to distract the Order. In reality, although most of his Death Eaters were destroying the popular shopping district in London, currently Voldemort was heading to the Potter Cottage in Godric's Hollow. Secret and rat in hand, he was poised to come and fulfil the prophecy by killing the Potter child, having chosen a half-blood like himself.

Harry wanted it to be over already. Tears stinging his eyes, he hugged a blanket to his chest, still morosely laid across the end table. 

'KaBoom!' Came the sound of the wards crumbling, a sound similar to glass breaking immediately following. The wards and intent barrier had fallen. Voldemort was here. They only had seven minutes before they could expect the Dark Lord at their actual door. 

A tear slid down Harry's face, sliding across his nose and tracing a hot, salty trail to his plump cheek pressed against the wood. 

Lily ran in seconds later, face paler than usual. James was hot on her heels, and as soon as he was certain that his son was carefully ensconced in his wife's arms, he hugged them both close. Pressing a kiss to Lily's upturned forehead, he gently ruffled Harry's eternally fluffy hair. Held tight in his mother's arms, Harry mewled helplessly in distress.

"You know what to do," James whispered hoarsely against his wife's soft red curls. Her hair smelled of mint and rosemary.

Lily nodded, her body moving shakily. She was afraid, but there was a fire in her green eyes. A determination to be strong shone through as she lifted her head, tipping her chin up. 

"I take Harry, go upstairs and wait. After twenty minutes, if you haven't joined us, then I floo out. If I can't floo, I apparate; if I can't apparate, I use the emergency portkey in the hallway inside the circle. If at any time it feels like the situation has worsened, I am to immediately evacuate ahead of you." Her eyes blazed as she looked through her lashes at her husband. "You will survive this, so hurry up. Don't be a ridiculous Gryffindor, run if you have to. Your family needs you." 

James' smile was warm and full of love. Soft hazel eyes, wide grin and youthful black curls, he looked very young. Harry was painfully reminded of how very young both his parents were. 

"I finally have the most beautiful flower in all the world. My fire flower, so passionate, so brave. So smart and kind, she puts a saint to shame." His smile looked lopsided at this angle, making the man look charming and devilishly handsome. "My fire Lily has given me a home, a family. A son to carry on, and hopefully one m--" 

Lily frowned and pressed a finger to his lips, shifting her grip on their son. 

"We'll talk about it when you come back to us," she said firmly. "And not a moment before."

James laughed.

The next few minutes were a blur. Lily headed upstairs, holding Harry in her arms. James headed to the front door, waiting to greet their unwelcome visitor. There was loud voices, screaming, spell colors lighting up the night through the windows. The sound of furniture moving, snapping, breaking, shattering, exploding! 

For a while this continued, noise rising steadily like a crescendo of destruction. 

But suddenly, it was quiet. A violent sort of quiet that swallowed up all hope, leaving only fear.

Lily began to weep, shoulders shaking as she placed Harry in his playpen and threw green powder into the fireplace. There was no reaction, and Lily's expression tightened. Quickly rising to her feet, she turned and went to the playpen. Her hand holding Harry's, she waved and flicked her wand-- but instead of a magnificent 'crack!', there was a sort of grinding noise. Apparation and floo were impossible, cut off, in or out. 

Sucking in a breath through her teeth, Lily hefted Harry quickly, putting him on her slender hip as she walked quickly to the door, wand out before them. She turned the knob, pulling the door open slowly as she glanced down the hallway towards the portkey and transmigration circle some distance away. 

However, she immediately screamed and slammed the door closed. The Dark Lord Voldemort was walking slowly through the hallway towards them, resplendent and terrifying in robes of all black. 

Lily ran deeper into the room, whispering the password to the lock on the nursery. Immediately spell chains heavily interwoven locked the room down. Now, even opening a window was impossible. It cut off their own escape, but bought time for the Order to arrive. As soon as the lockdown was activated, Dumbledore would be alerted.

Harry felt his face being pressed tightly against his mother's chest. She kissed him tenderly, keeping her lips against his black curls before more tears slid down her face, running into his hair. 

Placing her son in the wooden crib James had carved with steady transfiguration when he first heard she was pregnant Lily brushed the hair back from his forehead and knelt before him. 

"Mama loves you," she whispered, a tear making its way unhindered down her cheek. "Dada loves you," Lily encouraged, looking solemn and beautiful. A tragic and lovely angel. "You have to be brave now, Harry. You have to be brave."

Harry began to cry, and Lily tried to smile for him but it was watery at best. 

"Ma... ma!" Harry cried, his entire being hurting. "Mama!" 

Lily smiled again, a bit more realistically, but this time there was an explosion, and then the sudden cracking of the wooden door as it flew apart and off the hinges. Voldemort had cracked the lockdown.

Through the rubble and smoke stood a dark and cloaked figure. Elegantly, he stepped through the frame of the door, looking for all the world as though this was just tea. Even the dust settling onto his dark shoulders did not hinder his casual elegance.

Glowing red eyes with serpentine vertically slit pupils locked with the cautious gaze of Lily Potter. 

"Stand aside, girl!" Hissed a high voice. 

"No!" Cried his mother. "I won't. Take me, take me instead! But not Harry, don't touch Harry!" 

"Step aside!" This was the second time life was offered to Lily Potter. 

"Not Harry, take me! Just don't hurt my baby!" 

His mother held firm. 

"Step aside, you foolish girl!" Voldemort hissed his final warning. 

"No! Please, don't take him. Not my son, not Harry. Take me!" Lily begged, eyes fierce and back straight. She was noble in a way Harry could only hope to be. 

"As you wish," Voldemort sneered, and brandished his yew wand, long fingers curled around the handle. Sweeping it back, he lunged forward as though fencing, and said the words to the worst Unforgivable. 

"Avada Kedavra!" 

Green light shot out of his wand. Lily turned quickly, her back to her assailant, not running away but shielding, hunching down protectively above Harry. 

The light hit Lily between her shoulder blades. She screamed, body jerking quickly backwards before falling down and off to the side. 

Harry felt pressure behind his ears, a sudden and high pitched ringing. Buzzing and trilling loudly, the noise took precedence over everything. When it jerkily ended, Harry heard high-pitched laughter. High and cold, it mocked him like waking up from a dream into harsh reality. This nightmare was his reality. 

"I will have no equal, I will rule eternal! I, who have beaten death, shall live forever and reign!" 

Voldemort cackled maniacally and bowed in a mocking farce. Harry couldn't see his face, cast in shadow as it was beneath his hood, but he suspected the other was smiling and jeering at him. 

"My apologies, forgive me as I have already taken so much. On a positive note, you shall never experience the life of an orphan. This is our first and last meeting, so I bid you good bye... Harry Potter..." He pulled back his arm and lunged his wand downwards, crying out, "Avada Kedavra!" 

Green light raced towards Harry, but he only glanced up slowly, expression hollow. He wanted his mother to get up. He wanted James to charge in here, safe and alive. But neither of these things happened.
 
Harry closed his eyes, not wanting to see what was happening. Tired. So tired. He wanted to sleep, he wanted to dream. To dream of his family, laughing that summer. The way they looked. The way they smelled. The way they felt. 

As the death curse rebounded, Harry closed his eyes and slept. He didn't see Voldemort disintegrate. Nor did he see Severus Snape crying over his mother's corpse. He slept through the arrival of Hagrid, and his loading onto Sirius' flying bicycle. 

Tears glittering on his dark lashes, he dreamt of his birthday. 

Lily twirling with James in the kitchen, her soft cream skirt flaring out like flower petals. The way the light hit her hair and turned it into brilliant red and copper. The sound of her laughter. The way she sang along to the radio, or how she always smelled like vanilla and herbs.

James swaying with his wife, hazel brown eyes full of laughter. Honey light sparkled in his eyes, eyes that only looked at his wife. The way the shadows lit up the lines of his lean face and strong jawline, drawing attention to the dimples in both cheeks, framing his wide mouth. Dark and messy curls bounced loosely on his head, a halo of shadows. 

It was a beautiful memory. His parents were truly a beautiful couple. Everyone was happy... 

Harry didn't wake all through the night, even when Dumbledore placed him on the Dursley's doorstep. It was only morning when Harry woke, confused and alarmed, to the shrill screaming of his Aunt. 

'Ahh,' Harry inwardly sighed. 'Durzkaban hell.'

Harry Potter is the Master of Death. Unable to pass on after death, he is instead reincarnated eight hundred and ninety-one times. It turns out, dying is the easier part. Living? That's the hard bit.
