"The rest must be codenamed V-004, V-005, and V-006, right?"
 
The agent groups will be surprised at Adrian's deduction. Maria Hill was surprised too, but that surprise didn't show on her face.
 
Adrian turned and walked towards the store.
 
Natasha, who was smiling through the mask, quickly followed. Jessica looked at Maria Hill with disgust and followed Adrian too.
 
Jessica was disgusted, misunderstood Maria Hill, and Adrian's conversation. She thinks Adrian is a mutant, and he was captured and experimented by this organization. Because of that, these agents have powers similar to Adrian.

"Okay." Jessica agreed.
 
Adrian looked at Natasha and said in a kind voice. "Go save your sister, she needs you."
 
Natasha nodded with a gentle smile under the mask.
 
Adrian turned and walked to the back of the store, he investigated the place a little. He found a strange opening in the wall, he pushed the wall a little, and a secret passage was opened.

"Good afternoon, Princess Kana." The Head maid and her daughter said while bowing.  Kana ignored them and continued to destination. 
"Mama, There's something wrong with the princess." the daughter said. 
"What do you mean sweetheart?" The Head maid asked. 
"I saw tears coming the princess eyes. I think she's feeling sad about something." The daughter worriedly said. 
"Okay, then how about we cheer her up by giving her some snacks and tea." Head maid said. 
"Yeah, I bet she would love that." the daughter said excitedly. 
"Then, let go to the kitchen and fix some." Head maid said. 
"Yay!"
Five minutes after roaming all around the castle, Kana decided to go find Reo and Anko, and try to convince them to not go to war with the world. Then, she rushed back to room to change clothes. On the way there, she ran into the head maid and her daughter carrying a tray of delicious snack, ranging from cakes to cookies, and a pot of hot tea. 
"Good afternoon princess. We were wondering if you like some tea and snacks?" the head maid asked.
"I would love some, but only if you would join me Amelia and Sophia. " Kana said smiling. 
"Yes, Princess." Amelia said. 
"Well, let's enjoy them in my room. I have to change anyways." Kana said. 
"Okay, Princess, would you be needing any help?" Amelia said. 
"I'll be fine, but I'll be going out after tea. Would you like to join me?" Kana said. 
"Yes, I want to. Please mama can we go?" Sophia asked. 
"Okay, we'll go after tea." 
"Yay. I get to go with Princess Kana out." Sophia excitedly said. 
"Please settle down Sophia." Amelia said. 
"It's alright. She just excited. Let her have her fun." Kana said smiling. 
"Alright, princess." Amelia said.
After three minute of walking to Kana room, they sat down and enjoyed the tea and snacks they brought. Afterwards, Kana changed out of her clothes and put on some more comfortable clothes.  
"Here you go." Kana handing over a roll of cloth to Amelia. 
"What's this?" Amelia as she took it out of Kana hand. Then, it suddenly liquefied and formed clothing around Amelia body. 
"This is a special kind of clothing that instantly forms around your body. It's was a birthday present from some friends." Kana said. 
"Are you sure it's okay for me to wear this?" Amelia nervously asked. 
"Of course. Besides you were going to attract a lot of attention wearing that maid uniform." Kana said. 
"I guess you have a point." Amelia said disappointedly. 
"Oh. By the way, Can you keep this little trip between us?" Kana asked. 
"Yes, Milady. We'll keep this a secret." Amelia said. 
"Alright, Let's go." Kana said as she walked out her room door headed for the main exit.
At the south side of the capital, Kana and company walked up to a strange building. 
"Princess, What is this strange place?" Sophia asked. 
"I don't know. I was following a familiar PWR Level, and it led here. However, I have a feeling it safe for us to go in." Kana said as she walked towards the gate.
  As she tried to open the gate her hand went through it. 
"Oh, that's how it is. Come on, it's just a really powerful illusion magic. We can walk right through it." Kana said as she walked through. 
"Milady, Please don't leave without us." Amelia said concernedly as she grabbed Sophia and ran through. 
Once inside, they saw room with different people. Then, a portal suddenly opened up beside them, and a bunch of kids walked out. 
"Lady Kana, What a wonderful surprise. I didn't expect to see you here." Kasai said. 
"Oh my god, That the world's Princess, Kana Hasegawa." Geikei said. 
"Oh! You're the one that stopped mom and Auntie Asia temporarily with that gravity magic. What are you doing here?" Evee asked bluntly. 
"I'm here to talk to your overpowered brother on the behalf of the world. I was hoping that we cou- 
"Sorry to tell you this, but Reo and Anko aren't here." Lucie said as she and Maria appeared in front everybody. 
"What! Where did they go? Don't tell me that they went into hiding." 
"Of Course not, Why would they need to go into hiding? They're the most powerful people in the world. But if you need know, they went back home." Lucie said. 
"Okay, to Hikojima then." Kana said as she walked towards the elevator. 
"Where are you going human? You can't just roam around." Maria said. 
"By the way, Lord Reo and Lady Anko isn't at Hikojima." Kasai said.
 "What? If not there, where can they be?" Kana yelled. 
"Kana, first you need to calm down. This isn't right attitude for a princess. Secondly, Why are you so anxious to find them?" Lucie asked calmly. 
"How dare you talk to the Princ-"
"It's alright Amelia. She is right. I do need to calm down." Kana interrupted Amelia. 
"I'm looking for Reo and Anko to convince them to turn themselves in, and wait for before this turn to a bloodbath nobody wants." Kana said. Kasai, Yuko, and Maria, shocked by Kana statement, showed killing intent towards Kana, but didn't act on it. 
"Kasai, Maria, Yuko put a strong barrier up around me and Kana." Lucie said surprisingly calm while smiling. 
"Yes Lady Lucie." 
The three of them place the barrier around the two of them. 
"Now Kana, Repeat what you just said." Lucie said smiling. 
"I want Reo and Anko to turn themselves in to prevent bloodshe- 
"Purgatory" Lucie said as she transformed. 
"I think I have misspoken. I meant. I dare you to say that again." Lucie said giving off an immense killing intent. 
"Lucie, calm down. I know how it sounds, but I'm trying to ensure that they both live because I know my father plan. Once they are found, my father is going to send all of the Royal 13 members to handle them. And, when I say handle, I mean kill on sight." Kana said with fear in her voice. 
"How dumb do you have to be? Reo and Anko are immortal. They barely age, so they can't die."  
"Even so they can't fi- 
"Enough with all these excuses. I don't care if you want to try. You can, but I doubt they would agree to your plan. By the way, you're a horrible friend for suggesting that on today of all days." Lucie said as she powered down. 
"I know today is the day when their hometown, and most of the people they care about got purged. And to make things worst they get blamed for it." Kana said. 
"No, you idiot, today is their birthday, and for you to suggest that they turn themselves in for a something they didn't is what I call a horrible friend. But what can you do? It's not like you knew that this was going to happen on their birthday. You just knew what the king was going to do it. Anyway, don't come to me like we're friends cause apparently we're not in your eyes." Lucie said as the barrier collapsed. She turned around and walked off leaving Kana on her knees to think about her relationship with everybody. 
"Princess, Are you okay?" Amelia asked.
 "Yeah, I'm fine." Kana said. 
"Hey Meanie, what did you do the princess Kana, you meanie." Sophia yelled at Lucie. 
"I did nothing to her, sweetheart. We only talked about something important. I didn't touch her at all." Lucie said. 
"You sure you're okay, Princess?" Amelia asked concernedly. 
"Yeah, I'm  just fine. No need to worry." 
"Hey, you still want to talk to Reo and Anko?" Lucie asked. 
"Yeah." Kana said. 
"Okay, Let's go. We're going there now." 
"Where?" Kana and Amelia  asked. 
"The land of the Jan-gu, Eden." Kasai said. 
"Where is that? I haven't heard of a place like that on earth." Amelia said. 
"That's because there no such place ever existed. That's just a place that was written in the twenty-first century bible, The origin place of all mankind." Kana said.
  "According to legend, It was a beautiful place where filled with every kind of animal and flowers. It was the place that god himself had made to be as his workshop. There, he made the human beings, the first man, Adam, and the first woman, Eve. Together Adam and Eve became the guardians of Eden and lived freely, but they only had one rule given to them by their creator. Don't eat either of the two apples from the Tree of Knowledge. One of the apples grants unlimited knowledge, but in return you will have to lose your mind. The other apple grants immortality, but in return you will face unbelievable pain. They realized the dangers of the apples, and promised not to mess with them. However, one day there was a snake that tempted Eve to take one of the apples and eat it. She walked up to the tree, and grabbed both of the apples. Then she ran back to Adam to give him one. They each took a single bite from their apple, and something unimaginable happened. Adam, who bit into the apple of knowledge, gained the knowledge of the gods, but it was too much for him to bear. He went insane almost instantly. Eve, who bit into the apple of immortality, gained immortality, but felt a pain humans all know now as a woman's period. Later that day, the god, they served, saw the changes in his creations. They were radiating divine energy. When he their disobedience, and as punishment he banished them from Eden. But, he didn't stop there he supposedly ordered a subordinate of his to burn Eden down, and Adam and Eve was cursed to roam the earth. However, this story from the Bible is wrong." Kasai said. 
"What do you mean? How can you go against a whole belief like that?" Amelia said. 
"Hey, we aren't here to talk about religion? Where is Eden, Kasai?" Kana said excitedly. 
"It's in another dimension. One that's exists above the rest. It'll take about a hour or two get there by our ship at its fastest." 
"Okay, Let's go immediately." Lucie said. 
"Hey big sis Lucie, can we go too?" Evee and Lacia asked excitedly. 
"Huh, what did you call me?" Lucie said surprised. 
"Oh, did we overstep our bounds?" Evee asked.
 "No. No. No. I was just excited and surprised you called me that. Anyways, sure you can come with us. Now let's go to Eden together." Lucie said smiling. 
"Her mood changes quickly." Kana and Amelia thought to herself. 
"Gate." Maria said. 
Then, a giant magic circle appeared under everyone's feet, and teleported them into a dark basement of the mansion, where they keep a variety of things that Reo and Anko made using their creation ability. The things in there ranged from vehicles to weapons to giant robots to clothing. 
"Wow, leave it up to Reo to make a lot of amazing things and just lock it away." Evee said.
 "Well, All of the things in here have some type of fault in its engineering." Lucie thought to herself. 
"So, Lucie, what are we looking for anyway." Kana asked. 
"One month before we started classes last year, Reo and Anko came out of the V-room,  and created this place. Then, they started to transport a lot of things they created in the V-room. Apparently, they both don't have full control of their creation ability, because they create stuff while they sleep. Among those things, there was a vehicle that was capable of inter-dimensional travel. I think Reo called it 'Kuro'." Lucie said. 
"Who dares to utter the name my master has bestowed upon me." A mysterious voice echoed. 
"Who said that?" Amelia asked. 
"I guess it was Kuro, but I don't see anybody though."  Kana said. 
"Foolish human, I'm right in front of your eyes. I'm Kuro, The Shadow Cart.  Why have you come to see me?" Kuro said appearing in front of Lucie.
They saw a little spirit-like angel girl with pitch black wings.
"I'm Lucie Tachibana, future wife of Reo Amagiri and Anko Namikaze. I came here to ask you to take us to Eden, The  land of Jan-gu." Lucie said.
"Wait! She's a Tachibana. Even more did she say future wife to Chronos and the Queen. What kind of monster is Chronos?" Amelia thought to herself.
"Lady Lucie. Please forgive for my rudeness. Of course, I will take you there immediately." Kuro said as she disappeared. 
Then, the ground started to shake and rise up from beneath them. 
"What's going on?" Amelia said as she wrapped her arms around Sophie.
Then, she and Sophie fell off the platform as the ground beneath them crumbled, but she was caught by a white tail. 
"Be careful, human. Your the only bodyguard that is here for your princess. If you don't come, she will be in danger." Kasai said as she sat them down on the beside her.
"Thank you." Amelia said gratefully as Kasai pulled back up her tail.
Then walls formed around them making a box. Slowly the box deformed into a big jet-like vehicle.
"Please take a seat. We're about to take off into the dimension gate, and we'll arrive at Eden in thirty minutes." Kuro said.
Suddenly, a light shined revealing a path leading into a wall.
"Alright, let's go." Kuro said as she revved up her engines ready to zoom down the path.
"Wait, we haven't sat do-
Kuro suddenly propelled forward at sonic speed. Everyone screamed as they was flung into the back wall. Kuro gained speed gradually as she raced down the path. 
"Kuro! Slow down! We're going to crash into the wall!" Lucie yelled as Kuro got closer to the wall. 
"Don't worry Lady Lucie. We'll be just fine." Kuro said as she continued  speed up.
Everybody screamed except for Kasai, Yuko, and Maria.
Then, the jet phased through the wall as if it was a phantom. 
"What just happened?" Amelia asked as everybody went.
"We entered a dimensional vortex." Kasai said.
"D- men- si-on- al vortex?  What's that nice lady?" Sophie asked with a confused look.
"Kasai Amagiri, and a dimensional vortex is like a highway that temporarily links the dimensions together. It similar what Lord Reo and Lady Anko do when they move to places instantly through portal." Kasai explained to Sophie.
"How do you know this?" Kana asked.
Kasai ignored her.
"Well, Kasai how do you know this?" Lucie asked.
"Well, As you know, there are abilities that granted to those who form familiar pacts with each other. One of those abilities is Mind Link. Mind Link allows us to learn everything about each other from our past. You can say it helps us understand our family better." Kasai said.
"But how does that answer our question?" Kana asked.
Kasai ignored her again.
"Oh come on!  Why are you ignoring me?" Kana thought to herself.
"Big Brother Reo and Big Sister Anko have the memories of three people inside them. Big Brother Reo's Grandparents, his uncle's and Big Sister Anko's Aunt, and their own memories. That's how." Yuko said.
"Thanks Yuko." Kasai said.
"No problem, but why did you ignore the princess like that?" Yuko said.
"Because the pathetic human wants to convince Lord Reo and Lady Anko to turn themselves in to the World government for a crime they didn't commit." Kasai said. 
"Yeah, but Big Brother won't accept that proposal easily." Yuko said smiled.
"I know, but to think she suggest something like that. It's unforgivable." Kasai said.
"Calm down. There's no point of getting angry about it. You know she'll fail." Yuko said.
"Still, How dare she have the nerve to even suggest that." Maria said.
"Enough you three. We can't be worried about that now. Reo and Anko are in another dimension. Who knows what going on there?" Lucie said worriedly.
"I doubt that Lord Reo and Lady Anko would cause trouble." Yuko said.
"Kuro, full speed. We have to get there before Lord Reo and Lady Anko get into trouble." Kasai said.

In the year 2108, the world has changed its definition of being normal. The people of the world gained unique abilities and magical powers. However, with this development, the corruption of the world grew. The spread of crime and murder increased all over the world. To fight the corruption of the world, the world’s governments decided to rally together and fight against this threat. They formed an army of people who have special powers, called SP User, and magicians to combat against the corruption of the world. They called this organization The World’s Army Association. Thanks to the power of the World’s Army Association, corruption has decreased in the world. As a result, the world became a peaceful place and began to flourish, however peace doesn’t last for long. The world on the outside looks normal, but it’s horrible and full of corruption. The corruption of the world spread to the world’s government and the army’s leaders. However, in this corrupt world, there is a righteous boy who dreams of leading the world’s army. However little that he knows, He would be the leader of the World's Strongest Team, The Amagiri Clan, or that he would change the world.

Out of the other three villas, Li Du landed one more. Logan and an estate buyer took down the other two. The house-pickers had poor loot that day.
They blamed it on Li Du and felt that Li Du was there to hinder them. It was he who had brought the treasure hunters there and caused them to win nothing.
In such a scenario, they naturally harped on the fact that Li Du had spent two million to buy a haunted house, just to vent their anger. They talked about it non-stop, with a smattering of critique.
Li Du nodded at Lu Guan and Lu Guan understood his intentions. He went off to check out the state of affairs as the house.
The real estate agent, Snyder, was already waiting. He took over the three villas Li Du had won and prepared to go through the formalities. He said, "Boss, you can go back first, I will sort it out for you as soon as possible."
Li Du stopped him and said, "No hurry. Regarding the villa on the hillside of Belair Pilates. This, one, do you know anything about it?"
Snyder has been involved in real estate transactions in Los Angeles for many years, and his source of information was much superior to Li Du's, as Li Du was a newcomer.
As he expected, Snyder indeed had information regarding that villa.
Seeing the photo of the house, Snyder's nostrils flared up slightly. He said, "You bought this house? How much did you pay?"
"What happened to this house?" Li Du persisted in asking.
Snyder threw his hands out and said, "This house is quite famous in Bellaire. It's known as the Haunted House or the Murderous Mansion."
"This house had been built around fifty years ago. In the first forty-odd years of its existence, everything was fine. However, around five years ago, something happened. At that time, the owner had been a lonely man. His wife and children had passed on due to an accident."
"The old man had lived a quiet, sad life. However, one day, he was suddenly very happy. His surrounding neighbors asked him what happened and he said that his wife and children had returned. He said that they were now living together again."
"From then on, the old man often went to purchase daily necessities, as though it was an entire family using those things, and not just himself. At that time, everyone thought that he was hallucinating. After all, he was a lonely man who lost his kin. As you know, such situations are understandable."
Li Du nodded, signaling for him to continue talking.
"Around two weeks later, someone heard a gunshot in the house. The gunshot had rung out just as the sun rose. Then someone called the police. When the police entered the mansion, they found that the old man had shot himself."
Snyder pointed to his chin and said, "The muzzle of the rifle was here. The bullet entered from here and blew up his skull."
"That incident was classified as a suicide. There were many strange things in the storeroom of his house. There were photos of his deceased wife and children, their belongings and other items. The police felt that the old man had mental problems and killed himself in his hallucination."
Li Du said, "They came to that conclusion simply because of those things? Isn't that over-simplifying it?"
Snyder said, "Listen to me, boss. It was not that simple. According to the information I got from an internal source, the police even found some items related to witchcraft. There was a bloodied small coffin, some ashes from animals, the preserved carcass of black cats and crows, among others. They also found a sinister book that recorded the spells of resurrecting the dead…"
"That has happened the year before. Then the house was sold off at a low price. A couple bought the house and moved in there with four children."
"Not too long ago, their four children started to say that they would see strange people loitering in the house at night. One of the children described the person he saw and the description matched the old man who committed suicide!"
"Those children had never seen the old man, nor did their parents. Logically, the children would have no way of knowing how the poor old wretch had looked unless they had really seen something."
"The situation worsened. On the one-year anniversary of moving in, the couple was awakened. They realized that their children were not in their beds. In the end, they found their children loitering on the rooftop…"
Saying that, Snyder gulped and said, "Boss, what I'm going to tell you next is not exaggerated at all. It's all facts."
Li Du said, "I will not doubt you, go on."
Snyder said, "According to what the couple said, the four children had been loitering on the rooftop with their eyes closed, as though they were sleepwalking. However, a strange smile hung on their lips."
"Then, just after they appeared, the children looked as though they had been led by invisible people who were holding their hands and pulling them off the roof!"
"They just watched them jump off?" Li Du asked, shocked. "The parents, the two of them, were they sleepwalking as well?"
Snyder shook his head. "No, of course not, they were very awake. However, they felt as though they were controlled by some invisible force. They were conscious as they got to the roof, but they were unable to move. It was like a nightmare!"
"Fortunately, after the two children jumped off, there was suddenly thunder. The sound of the thunder shocked the husband so much that he was able to throw off the strange force that was restricting him. He dashed crazily forward and held onto the remaining two children. That saved their lives."
Li Du stopped for a moment before he asked, "The first two children who jumped off, they passed away?"
Snyder said with a dark expression, "That's right. Those two poor children died."
"Later, the police interrogated the other two children but did not get any information. The two children who fortunately stayed alive seemed to have lost their memory. They could not remember what happened that night. A doctor's examination found that there were traces of atypical activity in their brains. It was like they were drugged. However, the medical examination did not find any kind of drug in their body."
"The couple was unable to bear with it and decided to sell the house and move away. From then on, the haunted house gained its fame, which caused its value to depreciate."
"Finally, a rancher in Montana bought the building at a low price. He typically did not live there, and he treated the house as a place to stay on his winter vacation. In his hands, everything seemed to become normal. However, in the first half of this year, another accident took place, and the rancher died as well."
"Three consecutive homeowners, three consecutive accidental deaths… this made the haunted house more and more famous. When the rancher passed away, the incident caused a lot of talking in the local area. Many people demanded that the house be demolished. Perhaps you weren't here at that time and did not know about it."
Li Du asked, "Then, how did the house end up here after that?"
Snyder said, "The house was bought by the rancher on a loan. After his death, the house was passed on to his son, but the son did not have enough money to pay the inheritance tax and gave up some of the inheritance, including the haunted house."
Having heard that explanation, Li Du frowned. This house was really quite sinister. No wonder the starting bid had been so low. He had not thought much about it then. He did not expect this to be the reason.
Based on the stories, he had really gotten a wretched house. However, Li Du did not believe in ghosts or haunted houses. Instead, he believed that there was someone behind all of it. Hence, he decided to move in and discover himself what exactly happened.


They love gold, and they love silver. Even more so, they love gems that dazzle, like stars across the skies.

Storage auctions, old goods trade, re-estate sales and gold-digging. But the truth is, if one wants to make money, then the supreme way is through searching for the legendary treasures. 
Holding the fort, there’s an ocelot, a wolf, and an Andes condor. At the side, there’s a loyal hound, an irascible ape, and an African honey badger. Who said that you can only rely on humans when treasure hunting?! 

"Are you done getting dressed up in there!?" A Nurse called out from outside Maria's room. As she tightened the ribbon that was around her sweater.

The clothing the Hospital has given her weren't Adventurer clothing but Maria would take what she would get. She was wearing a yellow ribbon tie v-neck sweater with red and black accents along with a matching skirt and red beret. 

"I'm finished, can you please tell me what room he's located in?" Maria asked for the 100th time. The Nurse sighed as she handed a bag that had Maria's name written on it.

"Room 205." The nurse then walked out of Maria's room.

"Spriggan!" Maria called out from outside Edgar's hospital room. Even though the blonde was out of breath she didn't stop calling out to him. Once the door open Maria was greeted by the Spriggan who had a scowl on his face. For some reason he had the clothing he had on before.

"Maria-" Edgar quickly covered his mouth. It seems like he had asked about her wellbeing too. Maria blushed when he had said her name. She didn't know why but it made her feel happy that Edgar was worried. "I- I- Why the hell are you yelling kid?" Edgar asked trying to go back to his scary persona.

Maria noticed that he was playing with some of the strands of his hair. 'Is he flustered?' She wondered looking at him. She then smiled teasingly.

"Fufu, I don't recall telling you my name, Spriggan~" Maria giggled softly. She sat down on the side of his bed with a smug look. Edgar looked away from the young girl.

"You dropped your ID card, kid." He explained drily whipping out a small Adventurers Card. Maria blushed brightly at her idiocy.

"Ah-! I- I wasn't- Hmph! Give me that!" Maria then tried to grab the card out of Edgar's hand but he lifted it up out of Maria's reach. 

"You weren't what?" Edgar asked with a smug tone. His face didn't show it but he enjoyed seeing Maria flustered. "Thought I asked about you?" He asked causing Maria to flinch. He had guessed it on his first try. Maria didn't know what to say back. She then had tears in her eyes.

"*Hic* *Hic* I didn't- I wasn't-" She began to sob causing Edgar to freeze in his tracks.

'Shit I made her cry... I don't what to say...' Edgar then slowly handed Maria her ID. 

"Don't...cry. I'll buy you some... ice cream..." Edgar offered sheepishly. Maria to stop crying since she had never tried ice cream before.

"Really?? I heard that those were recently made so I never got to try it" Maria smiled with red cheeks. It was quite too easy to get her to listen. 

'She really is a kid.' Edgar then began to walk out the room. 'How old is she really? I didn't get to look at her age on her ID...'  

Maria was cleared to be leave the Hospital but one of the Doctors had asked to speak with Edgar privately. Maria stood afar wanting to know what was happening. 

"I want ice cream" Maria pouted as she stood just watching the adults talk. She then shook her head. 'No-! I'm an adult! I'm not some kid! Jeez, I graduated the academy!' The blonde scolded herself for acting so childishly. 

"Are you done?" Edgar asked confused at Maria's actions. The young girl flinched surprised when she saw Edgar.

"I- I should be asking you that!" Maria replied becoming flustered. Her cheeks turned red becoming hot. 

"Oh is Maria your partner Mr. Romero?" The Doctor asked as he handed a yellow package to Edgar. "She was asking about you the moment she woke up. Haha, take care of her as well as yourself. Maria is pretty young." The Doctor waved then left to treat other patients.

Edgar look at Maria who's face was covered in red. She instantly began to walk towards the exit not wanting to explain herself. 

"You better not say anything." She stated not looking at Edgar.

Maria Yerim is a newly graduated adventurer who has a beginning degree in Traditional Holy Magicks. She may be young but she hasn’t experienced the real world until now.

When she gets saved by a man of the Spriggan race, she decides to partner with him so that they can beat the evil Demon King that causes monsters called 'Lamia' to appear.

But to do that Maria needs to get stronger. And this world isn't so peaceful like the stories Maria has heard as a child.

Right when I wanted to exit my room and go downstairs, Marcus entered, panting.

"Why did you run off so suddenly?" he asked.

"I wanted to look a bit more decent before I greeted them. It's unbecoming for a so-called ruler to have the appearance of a dirty peasant."

He laughed at me. "You're exaggerating. You look fine."

I moved him aside and got out of my room. He followed me, eyebrows raised and a smile on his face. I gave him a nudge in the ribs.

"I'm not exaggerating. I can't look just 'fine', I need to actually show them that I am qualified to rule Eastern Europe." I stopped on the ground floor's hallway. "The first thing they'll see will be my physical appearance. I have to make a good impression."

Marcus scratched his head seemingly understanding what I wanted to say, but not agreeing entirely. Ah, men, I sighed. I opened the castle's main door and went out to see who these new vampires were. I heard the others gathering behind me, whispering. The guests approached and became clearer with each step.

I counted seventeen of them, all their clothes were torn and dirty. They must have fought and traveled a lot to get here. They got closer, wary of us, their eyes moving from me to Marcus and then to the others. They were frightened and I wondered what exactly happened to them. 

Marcus, who was on my right, raised a hand. One of the vampires gasped and smiled. He had long blonde hair tied at the back. His grey shirt hung on him, one part tucked in his black trousers and one not.

"You're the human who helped us," said the vampire. "The one who told us to come here."

"Indeed," Marcus confirmed. "Don't worry, you are among friends here. I'm the only human around and there are no hunters." 

I could hear a slight change of tone when he pronounced the last word. It was probably from the fact that he lied to them about how he was actually a former hunter. I was getting worried about this particular detail and how it would affect the future, but now wasn't the time for it so I shoved that thought aside.

Marcus added. "This is Valeriya. She is the current ruler of Eastern Europe."

I smiled at them, hoping to look encouraging and not menacing. 

"Please," I waved. "Come in."

They exchanged a few glances with each other then reluctantly followed me inside. I guided them to the main room as it was the only one who could fit so many people. As I entered, I noticed that Alya and Maria had returned from the forest and they sat on the floor by the fireplace. Alya studied everybody curiously, but Maria just blatantly glared at all of us.

Davor, Olga, Victor, and Adda went inside along with me and Marcus and stood at the very back of the room, next to the window. I kindly asked Marcus to light a few more torches. There was barely enough light to see all of them. None of them sat down at the table, so I decided to remain on my feet too. The new vampires were gathered opposite the fireplace, all staring at me.

Ah, damn it, I had no idea what to say. Something grand? Something to throw them off their feet? I doubted they came here to hear my stupid speech. Why did they come, though? To seek shelter, right? What were they expecting of me? This was not good. Their eyes scrutinized me so I had to say something.

"I want to welcome you all and I am glad you found this place." I hoped they didn't notice how awkward I sounded. "We are a small clan now, but I intend for us to grow in number as it will help us fight our enemies."

"Are you a pureblood?" The blonde vampire, who knew Marcus, spoke. 

"Yes, I am." I nodded.

Another vampire, a woman, stepped forward. "Can you fight the hunters? Can you protect us?"

The blonde vampire added. "We need someone powerful to get rid of these hunters!"

I froze instantly. What do they want from me? To go out and battle the hunters? I tried to gather my thoughts and come up with some good answers to these questions, but I didn't have any. I finally spoke, almost choking on my words.

"We will survive the hunters only if we stand united. Even as a pureblood I have no chance against all these hunters alone, but if you join me." I paused, then waved to the others. "Join all of us and we can fight the hunters and protect each other."

I couldn't tell whether they were impressed by what I said or annoyed that I didn't give them the answer they wanted. However, this was the reality. I wasn't some mighty pureblood. When Alexandr of Russia suddenly vanished, Yelena kept telling me how the hunters took him. I doubted they managed that, but I assumed he ran away without telling anyone of his whereabouts, so he could protect himself from the hunters. Margarete and Mehmed did the same. With that being said, how could anyone think that a single pureblood would stand a chance against an army of hunters?

A thought crossed my mind. Did Marcus actually tell them there was an army coming? How much did they know about the current situation? Probably not a lot judging by their replies. Finally, the woman spoke again.

"Thank you for accepting us into your clan. We appreciate it." She didn't sound very convinced of her own words, but it was good enough for me.

I nodded my head in acknowledgment, then added. "We have a few rules here. I will present them to you. Follow these rules and we will have no issues. Fail to follow them and you will have to deal with me."

I saw them swallowing hard, their eyes widening and those further back nudging each other. Did they really think they could just come here and play by their rules? No way. I was not going to be lenient like I was with Lev and Anastasia. I made that mistake once and it cost me their lives and Maria's hatred over my decision to abandon them. 

The vampires were tired, so we got chairs from all over the castle in order for them to sit down. I introduced myself again and told them how I got to live in Wallachia and how I took over after the former head died. I, of course, went past Yelena fast so that no one would start asking me questions about her and moved on to the actual rules.

Davor, Olga, Alya, Maria and I never ate humans. The only ones with issues had been Lev and Anastasia. By now, we all knew the repercussions of attacking humans in a village. Death. It was as simple as that and I made sure they all understood it. We didn't eat humans, only animals. I decided not to include the part about me drinking Marcus' blood, though.

After I made the feeding part as clear as I could, I went on to explain the vampire hunters. I realized that most of them had no idea just how dangerous they were. Then again, they didn't have inside information as I did through Marcus. Having a former hunter on my side was an advantage. Well, he and I liked to call his profession 'former', but the truth was, one never actually stopped being a hunter just as one never stopped being a vampire. He would be a hunter for the rest of his life, even if he resisted the urge to kill vampires and I would be a vampire for the rest of my life, even though I resisted the urge to feed on humans.

These vampires seemed young, inexperienced. Youngsters were a dangerous bunch. Full of energy, impulsive and arrogant, they were a nightmare for the older ones who had to keep an eye on them constantly. I knew from Yelena how difficult it was by remembering my own bad decisions. When I found out my family died I went on a rampage and killed as many humans as I could. She had to lock me up. Now that she was gone, I had one regret: I would never find out how my family died. She was the only one who knew and that piece of information died with her.

It was almost morning when I finished speaking with all the vampires. There wasn't enough space inside the castle to house so many of us and we decided to build a few simple cottages around it. Since they were too tired to work, I left them to sleep inside and brought Marcus and Maria to help me, while Davor, Olga, and Alya packed to go north and south.

We were searching for the ax to cut wood when Alya approached Marcus and I. "Where did you find these guys?" she said towards Marcus.

"What do you mean?" He raised his eyebrows.

Alya scrutinized her surroundings and then added. "They are… strange. They didn't seem to understand anything Valeriya told them."

"I have a different impression of them," Marcus replied. 

He found the ax and sharpened it. Alya ran a hand through her copper locks and shrugged. 

"I think they might be too young to get it," I said. "To be honest they don't look older than fifty to me."

"Basically children," Alya stated. "Oh well, I just hope they'll behave."

She left and headed to the stables. I saw her going south a few minutes later. Maria came from the forest with a handful of small wood pieces in her arms. She quietly put them next to Marcus and then returned to the forest for more. I exchanged a glance with Marcus then grabbed another ax and went to the forest, trying to stay clear from Maria's path.

It was almost midday when Marcus finished cutting up enough to lay the foundation of the cottages. I was tired from chopping so many trees and I sat on the warm grass, under the castle's roof where its shadow protected me. The sun was stronger today and I could feel my skin drying up.

Davor, Olga, and Alya returned with good news. The vampires from the neighboring villages seemed interested to be part of a clan. This was a good chance for us to grow in numbers. I could only hope I was able to control those numbers.

By the evening we had the framework of a few cottages. We went inside to wake up the younger ones and get them to help. After all, we did all of this for their own good. Some of them were already up and about. The sun had set and it was easier for us to move around.

I noticed two of them pacing nervously in the main room and I approached them, smiling, trying to be as pleasant as possible.

"Can I help you with anything?" I inquired.

One of them was a girl with tawny skin and dark hair. She jolted when I spoke, widened her eyes and swallowed hard.

"Are you all right?" I added.

"Y-yes… yes… I mean…" She swallowed again, choked, coughed and then continued. "I-it's one of our friends. V-Vladimir."

I patted her back in an attempt to calm her down. She jumped and make a step back. 

"What happened to Vladimir?" I asked.

She looked at the other vampire, a tall boy who just gawked at me in a very unsettling way.

"He left," the girl spoke. "He said that he saw a village nearby and that he was…" She choked on her words again.

I was slowly starting to lose my patience. "He was what?" I questioned.

"He was hungry!" She blurted. "He was hungry so he went to the village to eat! He said he won't eat animals!" The girl threw all these things at me in rapid succession then backed away.

My head was pounding and I felt hot. As in burning hot. Someone grabbed my shoulder and I turned around, growling. It was Marcus and I calmed a little. I noticed his Adam's apple moving up and down and his eyes big. It took me a bit but then I realized why they stared at me like that. I was angry. My veins were popping and my fangs were bare.

I looked at the girl again, who backed away even more. "I told you the rules!" I stepped towards her. "I told you we don't eat humans! You barely arrived here and you decided to eat in the villages? They are full of hunters!" I roared. "The very things I'm trying to protect you from!"

I turned on my heels and stormed out of the main room and then out of the castle. I had to find the imbecile who broke my rules hours after I presented them. Damn impulsive youngsters. I heard hurried footsteps behind me and Marcus finally caught up with me, panting.

"Where are you going?" He huffed.

"To find this boy named Vladimir."

He pulled my shoulder to slow me down. "We don't even know how he looks like."

"Marcus, it's not difficult to find him. Look for a moron chasing humans or for a vampire being chased by a hunter."

"What do we do if a hunter is actually chasing him?"

I stopped and thought for a bit. That would be bad. Theoretically, Marcus and I could take on one hunter, but we didn't know just how strong these new ones were. What if he escaped and brought more upon us? We wouldn't stand a chance. I could abandon Vladimir, too, as I have done before. It would be a lesson, yet, at the same time, they could realize that I was willing to let them one of them die just to prove a point.

"This is why I didn't want to be a ruler," I snapped and started running again.

Marcus sighed and followed me. As we got closer to one of the villages, the scent of blood hit me and I came to a sudden halt. I motioned Marcus to slow down and we walked towards the smell, which got stronger with every step. After a few minutes, we stumbled upon a bloody scene.

A woman on the right, her neck mostly inexistent and a man further away from her, his wrists and neck torn apart. Vladimir sat on the left, another man in his arms, gulping down blood and chewing on the victim's skin like a rabid animal. He stopped and raised his head to look at me. Mouth dirty, fangs out, his brown hair greasy with blood, eyes glowing. At that moment I realized I needed to get control of these youths fast or throw them out of this region.

Valeriya is a vampire who lives in a small village next to the Carpathian Mountains in Wallachia. She has been made the head of her vampire clan through the death of the former leader.

Valeriya has lived in peace with the members of her clan in the past few years, feeding off animals instead of humans. But now, a new force threatens their lives. 

Vampires are being killed throughout the world and Valeriya needs to get her clan to safety.

- 6:30pm-

" The Lab said that the surgeon they borrow had finish their job already. They should be returning tomorrow or the day after" Nick casually said as he use his right hand to steer the car wheel. The Black BMW drove hurriedly along a main highway towards the north region of the city.


# You sure they already been let off. Strange. Barry haven't given me a call yet.# Peter voice rang out from the phone at Nick ears.


" I can't do much about that anyway. Try calling him tomorrow. Maybe they are tired. Base on the extra pay they got from the lab they must have done alot of work. Anyway, have you heard about Lorena Lab closing down?" Nick said as he recall the scene when he reach the lab.

Several trucks and trailer being filled with cardboard box. The lab was being emptied out and most of the equipment have already been remove from the lobby. Nick didn't even see a receptionist to greet him when he enter and a guard at the door had to report his visit.


After recounting his experience with Peter he heard silence on the phone for a few second before .

# Hmm Maybe they succeed in what they think researching?# Peter said but he sound unsure about his guess.

" They succeeded in curing cancer. I'm pretty sure Lorena Lab was a government lab dedicated to the research of several incurable disease. One of those is cancer. I doubt that it was done though" Nick said as he stare off on the road. He look at the time and hiss his teeth at how late he was.


# Hmm, Let ask Barry and the other then. See you tomorrow, take care# Peter said before ending the call.

Nick simply place the phone in the door pocket at his right side before he step on the gas pedal. The car speed increase causing him to pass out several car in a moment. After 15 minutes of driving he made it off the highway and reach the downtown region of Lorena City.

Driving through several avenues he stop at a tall building with more than a hundred glass window at one side. The building was to his left. Parking at the front entrance of the building he conveniently ignore the no parking sign and blow the car horn.

Maria who was already at the door immediately recognized the car and walk over quickly. She had a dark black hair and wore a black pencil skirt with a white dress long sleeve shirt. 


Entering the passenger seat Maria gave Nick a angry glare as she been waiting for a hour outside. 

Seeing this Nick gave a wryly smile as he promise he would make Peter pay.

" Sorry for being late. " Nick said straightforwardly.

" Nick. Just drive and tell on the way why you make me wait outside for a hour" Maria said as she place on her seat belt.

Hearing this he knew he would be receiving some scolding and sigh. After checking his rear and side mirror he drove off once again.

Looking in the mirror Orleen smile at the beautiful dress she was in. Bright blue short sleeve dress with a  round collar. 

" Maybe I should give you this for your birthday. Yeah this would be perfect" Lisa said as she stare grudgingly at the dress Orleen wore.

" Oh come one you look good too" Orleen said as she looked at Lisa purple color dress. 

"Don't mock me. I know I look good but I starve myself to maintain my figure. What do you do. You gorge your self with fast food almost everyday" Lisa said which earn her a smack in the head.

" What does you want to say. Im a glutton? Eh" Orleen said with squinted eyes but Lisa snorted.
" Your the one who said it" Lisa said before grabbing Orleen hand.

" I feel like I'm you mom. Jess the party will be starting in a hour time. We can't be late girl" Lisa continue dragging Orleen out the front door of her house.

Orleen show a hesitated face as she was being pulled.

" Are you sure that a party during the week is right. Plus holiday would be coming soon so why can't it wait" Orleen said.

" What are you saying?" Lisa said as she open her car door. The car was a dark blue Honda.

" You little goodie to shoe. Your so innocent it make me sick sometimes. You have to live freely. Who care if we soon getting holiday or that it a school day. There is a party and we are free. Plus dont you want to talk to Tony?" Lisa tempted as she turn on the engine and drove off.


Thirty minute later Lisa car could been driving up to a house. Stopping under a street light Orleen glance outside and smile wryly at the number of car park along the streets. 

" We Late?" Orleen asked but the boisterous music sound from the house two block away was proof.

Stepping out of the car Lisa sigh at this scene and look at the dark night sky.
" I guess but the party would be going on all night." Lisa before closing the car door.


" Lisa. You know I need to reach my house by 10. Who knows when my parents might come home. Even though they say 11 I can't be too sure" Orleen said with a frown as she close her side door.

" Yeah Yeah Yeah. I will get you back before 10 don't worry. Let just have fun" Lisa said with a smile as the walked toward a house two blocked away. 


The loud music was clearer now and the countless shadow could be outline from the windows. 

Pushing open the front door the smile of alcohol and cigarette waft out the door causing Orleen brows to cease even more.


" You sure this the party?" Orleen said but was drag inside with out she could hear an answer.


Several teenage could be seen dancing, drinking, smoking and the more daring one were making out.

Many girls wore skimpy clothes while the boys were tight jeans and t-shirts . Lisa rock her head along with the music beat as she made her way through the crowds of teenager.



Reaching over to the kitchen she took up two glass on the counter and after washing them out in the sink pour out a bottle of drinks.

Passing a cup to Orleen she ignore her friend frown and dump the content the down her throat.

With the cup still in her hand Orleen frown before pouring it in Lisa cup and her eyes began to roam around the area. The house was extremely pack with people and it was uncomfortable staying within such a place for long. 

She didn't see the boy she came here for and with how things were going she felt it was a good idea.

" You really need to let back and go wild" Lisa said as she pour the content of the cup into her mouth once again.

Orleen ignore her as she began to think how long it would take to get home.
' Wait. Lisa drinking? Shit I'm going to have to drive home.' Orleen thought before she sigh and lean against the counter.

" No drinks for me" Orleen mutter sadly before she found a spot near the window to sit. The entire room was filled with smoke and she needed some air. She could see Lisa drinking perfectly at the spot she was at so she relax and sigh. The dark pitch black night sky came into her view before she suddenly frown. 

Time had quickly pass and 10 had slowly come but this wasn't the reason she frown. The vast arora lights was the reason. Glancing at the night sky she was amaze at this vast beautiful sky and she wasn't the only one to notice the change of the sky.

Sadly she was already late and needed to reach home.

Standing up she looked around and quicker spotted Lisa dancing provocative with a young man almost two years older than her.

Sighing she walk over and instantly smell the cigarette off the two. 
" Sorry we are late for home" Orleen said before she pulled Lisa from the boy and drag her away. Lisa, half conscious mumbled several words before saying.
" Call me?!"

" Shut it" Orleen said hearing her friend silly tone.


Back at the restaurant Orleen and Karlen was also seeing this wonderful and mysterious scene and so have half or more of Lorena City but no one was aware this was something that would change their life forever.

Next Day
- 6:45am-

The sound of whistling echo through the the kitchen as Karlen move swiftly across the stove. Two pots could be seen on the stove. One with sizzling frying eggs and bacon while the other boiling water.

After a few minutes pass a delectable plate of eggs, bacon and toast could be seen followed by a cup of cocoa.

Karlen fully dress in V neck long sleeve black shirt and close fitted black pants sat around the kitchen counter before he grab a fork.
After doing a small prayer he treated himself.


Sound of footstep approaching could be heard from behind. Taking a glance he spotter his mother in her usual night gown. 

" Honey? You up early today?" Maria said slightly surpise. 

" I'm Jamie told that they will be a math test today so I'm going to school." Karlen said calmly before he continue to eat. He would take a sip of some tea as his eyes stare at his phone screen. 

The sound of message coming in rang out within the Kitchen letter Maria know he was talking to some one.


" You chat group?" Maria asked curious as she enter the kitchen. Reaching the black color fridge she took out a bottle of orange juice and pour it into a glass cup.

" Yeah. I invited them over yesterday and we had a blast. Sadly Macro didn't come" Karlen said as he type on his phone.

" Oh last night. Orleen didn't mention that?" Maria said in surpise but didn't get into.


As Karlen read the last of the string of message he had just received he ponder about his friends sources.

" Mom did you see those light in the sky?" Karlen mutter.

" Yeah. I think it cover the entire city so everyone saw it. Why?" Maria said before pouring the orange into her mouth. 

" It nothing really.  Jamie said it probably have to do with a incident at Lorena Lab" Karlen said but that was all the text said.


" Incident?" Maria said surpise.

Karlen shrugged his  shoulders as he brought his empty cup and plate and began watching them in the sink.


" I don't know the detail and Jamie only know this much because his father is cop" Karlen said and continue on his way.


The dishes was quickly dealt with and Karlen grab his knapsack from the seat in the living room.

" Sure you don't want to go with your sister?" Maria asked but Karlen gave her strange look.

Shaking her head she wish her son a safe journey before began making breakfast for the rest of the family.

Karlen had a tendency to reach place well before it time and his entire family knew this. Apparently this was not inherited though as all three of his relative barely reach their destination on time.

Yawning at the door he walked down the front door steps and left the yard. His steps slightly hurried he walked toward the end if the street and cross the road to reach a bust stop.

The bus system was average with bus beginning rounds by 6 in the morning and end  at 12 in the night. Karlen was basically catching the first heading on a route passing his school. Stopping at a nearby bust stop he could easily reach school early.

Waiting on the bus he continue reading the chat group message.

Jamie# So what do you think cause the explosion.

Becky# Why you so sure it a explosion. Did anyone see an explosion or even feel it impact. 

Jamie# If not a explosion what.


Marco# Back to what may cause it, it could be a experiment went wrong.


Charlie# An experiment that could destroy half the lab. Don't the government do such experiment away from human society.

Karlen# I don't think it was supposed to do that though. From what I remember Lorena Lab deal with curing diseases doesn't it?


Becky# Yes curing diseases. How can that cause a explosion.


As he continue to text he would frequently glance to his right to see if any bus was comming his way. After a few minutes of waited and several more people joining him at the busy stop a bus came. It was the exact bus he needed also.

Entering, he headed to school.

"I here by ask Prosecutor Dyer to take the stand." The judge announced. 

"Thank you, Judge Turner." Prosecutor Dyer began his opening statement. "The murder of Don Parker happened not too long ago. The time of his death was on Tuesday, September 19, 2017. I here by announce Ms. Anastasie Berger as the suspect of this crime. Let us now hear the defendant's plea." 

I then was standing in front of the whole court ready to defend myself. "I did not murder Don Parker. I didn't even know who the man was. I was out late at night, yes, but I was on my home. That was when I saw the murder of the poor man. I hid when the murderers were killing him. I didn't know what else to do at them moment. I was scared. If I were a man who knew self defense, that would have been different. However, I'm a woman and compared to 4 other strong men, I'm weak. I did not kill Mr. Parker." 

"Now, we will hear the prosecutor's preliminary  hearing (evidence presented by the prosecutor to prove the defendant guilty)." The judge nodded his head. 

"Yes, Judge Turner. Looking at the time of the murder and Ms. Berger being at the same place at the same time seems all to fishy." Prosecutor Dyer took out the first evidence. "Take a look at this photo for a moment. In this photo, it shows Ms. Berger touching Mr. Parker. Doesn't this seem suspicious to you? For a person who was just walking home, why would Ms. Berger have anything to do with a dead body?" 

"Yes, why that does seem suspicious." The judge nodded his head in agreement.

"I here by call upon the witness, who witnessed Ms. Berger in the alley, to come to up to the stand." Prosecutor Dyer announced. 

A woman dressed in black with a black hat walked up to the witnesses stand. 

"This here is Ms. Gina Thornton. She is the witness of the murder. Isn't that correct, Ms. Thornton?" 

"Yes that is correct." Ms. Thornton wiped a tear off of her cheek. 

"Please give your testimony, Ms. Thornton." 

"Of course." Ms. Thornton then slammed the table podium in front of her. "Listen loud and clear, everyone. This woman here killed Mr. Don Parker! I am ashamed of her! I, a close friend of Mr. Parker and his wife, am distraught! Yes, I saw her murder Mr. Parker. And she killed him with a pistol!" 

"A pistol?" The judge questioned. 

"Yes a pistol. I saw it with my own eyes. I saw her shoot the the poor man! When I saw her shoot the man, I quickly took a picture and ran to the police! That is all." 

"Alright. Defense, ready with your cross-examination." The judge announced. 

"Yes, sir." Mr. Wilson then walked around the room. "Ms. Thornton, what time did you see the murder happen?" 

"Exactly 12:57 am." 

"I understand. Now when you mentioned you saw Ms. Berger killing Mr. Parker, how did you notice she was in the alley? Wasn't it dark around that time of night?" 

"I heard two gunshots, of course. That's how I was able to spot her in the alley." 

Wait...that wasn't right. The gun was silent. she's couldn't have possibly heard the gun shot. I hate that I can't say anything. I hate it. 

"I understand. Do we have the gun with us here today?" Mr. Wilson asked. 

"Yes. We have the evidence right here." Prosecutor Dyer brought out the pistol. "This was the gun with its bullets founded in Mr. Parker's body." 

"I understand." Mr. Wilson nodded his head. "So this was the gun." 

How did they find the weapon? No, not the actual weapon. A "fake" weapon? How did they make this mistake?

"Are you sure those are the right bullets that were in Mr. Parker? Or is this forged evidence?" Mr. Wilson asked. 

"Of course not. This is why I'm going to ask upon the next witness. Thank you, Ms. Thornton."

After Ms. Thornton left the stand, the next witness came. 

"Welcome, Mr. Kerry Snyder." Prosecutor Dyer introduced the witness. 

"Yes, you may state your next testimony, Mr. Snyder." The judge agreed. 

"Yes." Mr. Snyder nodded his head. "When I was at home around 12:40-ish, I was having a cold night sleep. I knew something was up. I looked out my window, because I heard talking, but I couldn't see due to the darkness." 

"Did you hear a gun shot, Mr. Snyder?" 

Mr. Snyder then looked at me. He then gave me a smirk. "No, I didn't." 

The jury and everyone in the court room became quiet. He just contradicted what Ms. Thornton said. What is going on?
