The delegates inside the pitch-dark room were swarming towards the exits. Only Olaf Troll, Sonia Patel, and Nelson Odongo stood still on the stage near the lectern.

The glowing cube appeared next to the lectern. It was only an arm's reach from Olaf Troll. He looked at it, then looked at Sonia Patel and made a gesture that said: ladies first. Sonia smiled at him, and shook her head.

Olaf Troll looked again at the glowing cube. He put a finger to his lips and frowned. Then very slowly, he began to reach out to the cube, finger pointing.

Before he could touch it, Nelson Odongo quickly walked past him and put his hand on the cube. It instantly changed color, from snow-white to ivory. Big dark brown letters appeared on its every side. They all said the same thing, in different languages and alphabets:

GREETINGS, REVERED ANCESTORS. PLEASE TOUCH AGAIN FOR AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE

Nelson Odongo turned to look at Olaf Troll and Sonia Patel, raising his eyebrows. The huge, dark chamber was perfectly quiet. All the delegates that had been trying to get out of the assembly chamber were frozen still, and watching the cube. It was the only source of light in the entire room.

Olaf Troll nodded, and the secretary general of the United Nations put his hand on the cube. The letters dissolved and reappeared again. This time, they said:

PLEASE SELECT LANGUAGE

A list of all the languages represented by the delegates appeared, each in its own alphabet. They were ordered by dominance: Chinese characters stood next to the Latin script used by English. Nelson Odongo didn't hesitate.

He couldn't read Chinese, so he chose English.

New text appeared on the sides of the cube. The delegates in the chamber began moving closer; some were even brave enough to climb on the stage. Interestingly, the brave ones were almost all civilians: the marshals, generals and admirals kept back, maybe because they knew better what explosives can do to the human body.

But nothing exploded. Instead, there was a widespread intake of breath among the delegates close enough to read the text on the cube. It said:

'According to the outdated time-counting method you are using, we are writing you this on the first of January, 32035. Tomorrow, you will experience a global catastrophe that will throw Humanity back into the Stone Age for the next ten thousand years. You will experience nothing but death, pain, and misery for hundreds of centuries.

'We know that, because this is what happened to our ancestors: to you.

'We are your children, removed from you by hundreds of generations. We have confirmed what your scientists are suspecting: there is an infinite number of dimensions. There is an infinite number of universes. It is possible to exist simultaneously in different dimensions, and to travel between them. It is possible to travel in time. IT IS POSSIBLE TO CREATE A NEW UNIVERSE.

'We are offering you a chance to follow an alternate timeline.

'We are sending you the tools you need to settle a new world.

'It is a planet that is a better, richer Earth. It is located in a universe, a galaxy, a star system just like the one you live in now: the Solar System.

'It is geographically, geologically, and biologically identical, except for three major new archipelagos: North Pacific, South Pacific, and the Atlantis. These archipelagos have islands as big as Greenland. But be warned: because they are new, they have retained the life forms of the Mesozoic era.

'The tools we send you will let you REPLICATE in the New World all forms of life on Earth: microbes, plants, insects, animals, yourselves. They will also let you TRANSPORT anything that is not alive from the New World to Earth, where you will continue to live. You will stay in telepathic contact with your second selves in the New World at all times.

"Please," said Olaf Troll. This was the first time anyone had ever heard Olaf Troll utter the word 'please'. It was so unusual that both Sonia Patel and Nelson Odongo turned to stare at him, eyes wide with amazement.
"Can I be the one who does it?" asked Olaf Troll. In spite of the tension hanging in the air, Sonia grinned.  The secretary general cleared his throat, and said:
"Of course. Please do go ahead, my dear fellow."

Nelson Odongo had studied political science at a college that was part of the famous University of Oxford in England. He habitually assumed the style of speech he'd learned while studying there to hide confusion and uncertainty: it worked very well, most times. Touching the cube was one thing; inserting a hand into it was another. He was perfectly happy to let Olaf Troll try it first.

Olaf Troll stepped up to the cube. He noticed that everyone was looking at him as if he was a hero. This was new to him, and he basked in the adoration. He noticed that most delegates took a couple of steps back from the stage; a few faces had turned pale with fear.

He pushed his hand into the cube, holding his palm sideways.

It felt as if he had put it into a bowl of warm water. Then he distinctly felt something being pressed into his hand. He grasped it, and pulled his hand out.

He was holding a scroll, a rolled-up sheet of thin material resembling paper or plastic. But it was neither; for one thing, it was practically weightless. It felt as if he was holding air, if holding air was at all possible.

He saw everyone was watching him with eyes full of fear and admiration, and stopped himself from smiling at the last moment. He forbade himself to smile, ever. It did not fit the image he wished to project.

He unrolled the scroll with a pointedly careless flip of his wrist and peered at it. The material glowed softly, just like the cube. The glow made it easy to read the text, and see the numerous diagrams on the scroll in spite of the darkness in the room.

He said:
"English. Why isn't this in Norwegian? I am Norwegian."
"I'm awfully sorry," said Nelson Odongo. "I selected English."
"Hmph," said Olaf Troll. He peered at the text and diagrams on the scroll and added:
"This appears to be a set of instructions for travel, excuse me, for replicating one's own self on the Earth-like planet called the New World. Hmmm... It seems to be very simple. All that's needed is something called a Timon Implant. I -"
"Stop," said Nelson Odongo. Everyone looked at him. He said:
"As secretary general of the United Nations, I request that we first agree on a procedure. To begin with, every delegate present should acquaint themselves with this document. Then we can vote on the next step that should be taken."

There was a murmur of agreement from everyone in the chamber.
"Shouldn't we have lunch first?" said an overweight general, who ruled a small island nation in the Caribbean. A few titters were heard.

Nelson Odongo frowned.
"This isn't the right time to be flippant," he said gravely. "Order, please! Will everyone kindly line up to my right, and I will distribute copies to everyone in turn. Please state your preferred language as you step up to receive your copy."

All over the world, people were dying by the million. But in spite of the darkness, in spite of everything it was business as usual inside the United Nations building.

It is January 2nd, 2035. In New York, leaders of all the world's nations are assembling to agree on a plan to save the dying planet: Earth.

But as soon as the storm dies down, millions of mysterious, glowing cubes appear all over the globe. The cubes contain tools that will let humans colonize a new planet: a bigger, richer version of Earth.

The newly formed Colonial Council, which answers to the United Nations, has one goal: to ease the crisis on Earth by transfers of goods and resources from the New World.

Millions of new colonizers rush to the New World, united by a common purpose: to turn their dreams into reality.

Some dream of getting rich by trading New World goods. Some dream of conquest, and building an empire. Some dream of peace, adoration, and love.

Some will succeed, and others will fail.

But fortune always favors the brave.

I turn on the machine and it quickly whirres around Angela. Once the machine has lifted Angela begins to stumble. I catch her and stand her on her feet. "According to that machine, you had over 23 trackers all over your body." "23?!" "23. Now, you have none. All of them have been deactivated." I escort her out of the shower and into the demolished bedroom. "What are we going to do about the house?" "I-" "Wait! Lemme guess, you have a guy that can do it in ten minutes." "Ten minutes? I wish. Try about a day." "Wait, really?" "Yea, the guy's amazing. He can be in and out in record time. If you want to grab the kids and go to the garage I'll call him and turn off the lockdown." She nods and walks upstairs while I walk over to a keypad on the wall. I insert a key and type in a code. I hear a mechanical whirr followed by the keypad displaying "Lockdown Mode Disabled." I pull out my phone as I walk to the garage. "Hello?" "Bill? It's Richard. I got a project for ya." "And what would that be you crazy ass fox?" "I may have blown up my bedroom with a tank while chasing armed assailants trying to kidnap my wife." I hear a long pause on the other end, followed by laughter. "Coming from anyone else, I would be asking several questions. But I've learned to never question you." "Soo, can you help me out?" "I'll be there in an hour. The pin still 1967?" "Yea, and thanks again. I'll leave some pictures of the house out so you have a reference." "Got it." I hang up the phone and meet Angela, my parents, and the kids by the garage access door. "Before we leave, what are you going to do about the massive tank in our living room?" "Giovanni will take care of it." "Alright then, let's go. We are taking my car or one of yours?" "Let's take my Ferrari FF. It's got a back seat for the little ones." Joeliene puts her hands on her hips. "What about us?" "I was just about to get there." I open the key box and pick up a tan key inscribed with the red Bugatti logo. I toss them to Maddox. "Take this. Scratch it, and you might be coming back in a Yugo. Or a hearse, it depends on how bad it is." Maddox stares wide eyed at the key. "Yea, yea. Sure. No scratches. Yugo." I turn back to Angela. "Let's get going. I've got a hotel lined up and a full day for us tomorrow." I grab a Ferrari key from the key box and ring a small bell. A minute later, a small Fennec Fox in a butler's uniform walks over. "Yes sir?" "Gio, take the house repair pics and leave them out for Bill. Also, do you mind taking care of the tank as well?" "That's my job sir. I'll get right to it." "Thanks Gio." "Anytime sir." "And quit calling me sir." "Yes, uh…" "Just go." He scampers off and I open the garage. "Dad, I would get moving before you drool on my keys." Maddox snaps out of his daydream. "Right. Joe! Let's move." They walk off, clicking the key in search of my Bugatti Chiron. "Should we leave them alone?" "Ah they'll be fine. Besides, I think that they need it." We walk to the opposite side of the garage and load into the yellow Ferrari FF. I check on the kids before pulling out of the garage and into the driveway, stopping and waiting for my parents to emerge. "Oh, Richard, did you get all the kid's stuff?" "Yup. Had Gio take care of it earlier." "My god he's helpful." "That's why I hired him." My parents finally pull out of the garage and stop behind us. I slowly drive down the driveway and carefully pull onto the highway before slamming the accelerator and leaving the Chiron in the dust. "Ha! Let's see if he has the balls to hit it and rocket past me." I check the rear view mirror and see them coming up behind us, and fast. "Hm, I guess he di-wait." "Angela gets a concerned look. "What?" "My father isn't driving, my mom is." As I end my sentence, Joeliene pulls up beside me, smiles, then guns it past me and down the highway. "Well then. I guess she had more than he did." We continue to speed down the highway, never catching sight of the Chiron until we pull into the hotel parking lot next to it. "Guess they found the GPS too." I unload the sleeping kids while Angela unloads our luggage, and the both of us walk into the lobby. I check us into the penthouse suite and carry up our luggage while Angela tends to the kids. Angela puts them in cribs in the next room before closing the door and joining me. "So, what's the plan now Mr. Senna?" "I need you to take everything off and lay face down on the bed." "Alright then. Bit early for you but I'm not complaining." "What are you talking about?" "Aren't we going to- OH! What the hell are you doing back there?" I fiddle with some knobs on the small contraption above Angela's back. "Scanning those trackers to see if I can trace them back to someone. What did you think I was going to do?" "Uh, nothing, I guess." She sighs and puts her head down. I heave a radiation blanket over her head. "This will protect you from radiation while I do the x-ray." "Mmpf" "Ready?" "Mpmfp" "I'll take that as a yes." I turn on the scanner and it whirres to life, scanning the entirety of Angela' s body. Within a few seconds, the machine gives me an x-ray image. I zoom in on one of the trackers, get a 3D scan of it, then save the file. I repeat the process until I've compiled about 13 models. I lift the blanket and x-ray machine off of Angela and place them on a table. "You done with me?" "Yea. Put a robe on. I want you to see this." She walks into the bathroom while I send the files to a 3D printer, printing out enlarged replicas of the trackers. Angela walks up beside me. I hand her one of the prints. "So this is what's been giving us so much trouble." "Yup. And I want you to look at the markings on all of these." I gesture to the small text engraved in each of the trackers. "All the text is the same." "The Greenway Council." Angela mutters. "Where have I heard that name before?" "Try Greenway Computers. They sound familiar?" "Yes. But isn't that a small tech company in Sweden?" "You're right about the Sweden part. But not the small part. The Greenway Council is a multi-billion dollar technology cooperation. They make everything from computers to vacuum cleaners, and apparently, trackers. Unfortunately, these trackers aren't tagged to a customer. Fortunately, I can fix that." "How?" "The computer systems back home have hacking and encryption software that allows me to access anywhere on the web as anyone and do almost anything. I can get into their systems, scroll the customer list, and match it to the tracker's part number." "Well what should we do in the meantime?" "I propose we spend some quality time with our children."

This is the story of 2 young creatures. He was Richard Senna, a fox, and she was Angela Melacine, a wolf. He was kinda crazy, but so was she. And they were both crazy for each other. In the beginning, everything was wonderful. The wedding, the kids, the time spent together, everything. But some dark secrets were discovered, and darker pasts revealed. Now he must put his life on the line to save his true love and keep his family together. 

As a note: This book was and still is being created as a passion project. I originally started it as a way to cope with different pieces of my life and a lot of my emotions during a time of self-discovery. The story eventually got so long that I shared it with a few close friends, who shared it further, and so on. Now, after about 3 months of my friends urging me to, I published this book to the world to see what you all think about it. I hope you all enjoy reading this as much as I love writing it.

"Shit" Ren cursed as he try to alleviate his nervousness, his breathing quicken as he remember the accident of his bestfriend.

Year 2033, August 17 

One of his biggest regret in his life, is that he only talk a lilttle with his bestfriend before he died. How he wish to travel back in the past to save Gabriel.

He quickly walk into his door to burrow a phone. With hands trembling, Ren was not able to properly hold the door knob. Resulting in not opening the door which make him  more flustered.

The video of his bestfriend incident has already replay in his mind. 

"F*cking, CALM DOWN!!!!!!" With a shout he slap himself, when he sober a little. He slap himself 2 times more. The pain make him lessen his nervousness, he tried to regulate his breathing. But then the image of his friend dying flash again in his mind, he became more and more agitated as he think about wasting his time but cannot do anything as his mind feel like it suffer from short circuit. Following the intense rapid beating of his heart.

Thump thump thump thump thump thump

When he see the door infront of him, a crazy idea formed in his head.

Boom!!!!

Smashing his head in the door. A large sound are heard as a evidence of what he do. Ren use too much of force as he even staggered a few steps back. With drops of blood trikling from his forehead into his face. His breathing stops for a second as he start to feel the pain.

"IT HURTS!!!!"

With a intense pain in his forehead, his breathing starts to regulate. He started to shows sign of calming down. His heartbeats then go back to normal and his mind start to clear up again. His trembling hands also starts to relax.

Closing his eyes and inhaling deeply. He then quickly formed a plan in his mind as fast as possible. Opening his eyes, he walk toward his drawer. Opening it, he found a box of a phone. Same brand with whats he is using but different model. Quickly opening the box. After obtaining the cellphones and battery, he only hope that it will still work. 

The screen starts and seeing that it worked he quickly took his true phone. Opening its back, he took the sim and insert it to the this.

Searching through his contacts he quickly try to call his bestfriend.

After calling but with no one aswering for 5 minutes he start to feel nervous again. Trying it one more time, this time it got connected. Wasting no time Ren quickly ask

"Garbriel, where are you know"

"Im already at the airport, Why?" Gabriel said as the announcement of his flight was heard.

Good afternoon passengers. This is the pre-boarding announcement for flight 7d to Austro city, Nue Ecijar. We are now inviting those passengers with small children, and any passengers requiring special assistance, to begin boarding at this time. Please have your boarding pass and identification ready. Regular boarding will begin in approximately ten minutes time. Thank you.

"I....have... i ha-have something to te-tell you" hearing the anouncement make him nervous again as he ven stuttered some of his words.

"You should made it quick, man my flight will be on 10 mins. I also have not text or call Carlos and Mark."

"I have a favor, please miss that flight" Ren was still nervous as he currently dont know how to make Gabriel believe him.

"Okay.....wait What? you want me to miss my flight, do you know that all flights to Nue Ecijar has already been fully booked for 5 days straight. It was also a hassle to buy a first class seats later on"

"Garbriel, please believe me. This is for your own good"

"Oh really huh? Dont tell me you see in future that i will die today" he jokily said to Ren. If it was really the reason, he will not know how to laugh.

Ren was speechless by his bestfriend guess. He totally guess it

"Technically......…Yes"

"...…" this time it was Gabriel turn to be speechless.

"Garbiel, hello?"

"Remember when 8 years ago, when we visited your mansion. I was still naive and ignorant back then. You tricked me in eating that blue cheese, saying that i was followed by a cheese ghost and will be cursed if i did not eat that disgusting weapon of mass nose destruction.  Saying stuff like you can see ghost, your third eye is open and your very concern about ME."

As gabriel remember the past, he became more and more annoyed

"D*mn you still remeber that, im sorry if i do that but now is different."

"Yes it was different now. I know dont worry"

"Really? Thank goodness" Ren was elated to know that Gabriel believe him.

"That time was seeing ghost, this time is it was seeing the future. I dont have time to play prank with you. Ill be going bye bye" 

"Wait, NO dont please believe me. GABRIEL PLEASE IM BEGGING YOU, DONT GO!!" Hearing that Gabriel does not believe him, he was really frightened. Afraid of losing his bestfriend again, he truly regret that he only think of matters in the apolapyse era. The feeling of having second chance but still not treasuring and instead repeating the same mistake is truly unbearable.

" Give me a acceptable reason why you dont want me to continue my flight. Dont give me that seeing the future reason or i will immediatley hang up" Hearing his bestfriend panic voice. Gabriel started to feel that Ren was really saying the truth even though it was absurd.

Ren know that he need to make up a story. In his past life, he tried to find any clue of scheme. But he found out it was really an accident and not targetting anyone on the plane.

" you see. I got some clues, a planned "accident will happen". Actually i only blindly guess that a accident will happened. With almost no connection to the clues i got however my intuition are telling that there is something amiss."

Gabriel knew that Ren has powerful guessing ability. Though it was not accurate, it was not too farfetch from the truth. So Gabriel became hesistant whether believing his bestfriend or not. 

Yes, from birth till now. Ren have innate 6th sense, he was born with stronger intuition than ordinary human. This make him make less error and failure. But sadly just like a smart man will be become idiot in love. His kindness also clouded his reasoning and judgement.
 
"Only this time. Ill believe your nonsense . So you still have a chance to tell me if youre just joking"

"Im not, thank you for believing" hearing his bestfriend finally believing him. He heave a sigh of relief as he finally save him.

When the feed came up on the monitor for Hunter, Elias felt his brain stalling. It was a still image of the business end of some sort of jagged blade. His eyes widened slightly as another moment passed and his brain finally made sense of the imagery. The tableau in front of her was frozen as if any sudden movement would cause it to shatter into pieces. 
Forsythe had stood in front of her at the crucial moment when the named visage had lunged forward from nowhere, the long rapier having been moments from skewering her right eye and ending her right then and there. He had stopped the advance of the enemy blade by locking his own hilt with the enemy. Had he been a fraction of a second later, or a fraction of a second further back, she would be dead now.
[Appraise]. Hunter commanded.

 Before the skill could fully materialize the information regarding the enemy, Hunter's vision swam almost as if she were low health or if she were suddenly enveloped in an enemy illusion spell. Grimgrieve in her appraise vision grew in magnitude by four sizes and took a step toward her that made Hunter immediately start scrambling backward. The rapier in the creatures right hand grew in size proportionally to his body and he started to swing down. Hunter froze as if she were a rabbit in front of a lion. 
 "What the f-." Hunter started to curse, realizing that she wasn't actually scared but her character literally couldn't move. It was some sort of fear check that her morale had failed against. All she could do was helplessly watch as the blade descended again. The frustration in her voice was heard loud and clear even as the feed in the broadcasting room showed the ludicrous image of the enemy named visage growing in size and stepping forward like a reaper.
 "Ugh," Abhy muttered in disgust, but there was no real concern in her voice. In fact, Elias spared a glance around and saw that everyone else in the room was calm as well. No one was afraid for Hunter or worried about her feed being cut except maybe the viewers and perhaps Hunter who was under the knife. MKC Online had been watching a lot of footage lately and there was one hero that, even though they were in the limelight, held the power of quiet respect and awe. No one said anything but everyone was waiting for it. There could only be one outcome.
 Hunter's vision resolved immediately as the shape of a human slammed into the huge nightmare creature from the side, smashing into it so violently it almost seemed like it deflated or somehow knocked off a gaseous matter that made the creature immediately smaller. Hunter could once again move and this time she didn't waste the chance with caring about moving carefully or slowly. She turned slightly, keeping her eyes on the action as she sprinted to the shadow of a nearby building, no longer encumbered by the fear effect at all. Her bow sprang into her hand and she pulled the string back, a notched arrow appearing and flying toward the red eyes that followed her even now.
 Grimgrieve stepped backward casually away from Forsythe who had body checked him off-balance and out of line for the killing blow he had planned, no longer paying any mind to the arrow that flew by inches from the side of his head. Black feathers on the side of his pauldrons rustled slightly as the arrow passed but otherwise there was no reaction to Hunter. His red eyes finally trained on Forsythe.
[Die]. The command again, but this time Hunter could see that it really was a spoken fear skill since it was pointed at the swordsman instead of her.
 If Forsythe felt the ability no one could tell. Above his head there was a clear ringing sound, almost seeming to surprise Grimgrieve whose shoulders straightened. [INVINCIBLE] appeared in silver above his head.
Almost as soon as the command from the enemy visage the same size as him was issued Fours spoke one of his own. "[Intrepid Strike]." 
Intrepid Strike was an ability that focused on thrusts. At the level that Forsythe had trained the skill the accuracy, speed, and damage of three initial thrusts were increased. Additionally, the skill would actually continue allowing for subsequent thrusts to benefit from the skill buff for as many thrusts as the player could manage without missing consecutively. Parried thrusts didn't deactivate the skill, ever-increasing thrusts didn't add any significant advantage. The skill maintained the speed, accuracy, and damage of the buff from those three initial thrusts and could be maintained indefinitely, in theory, as long as you didn't miss and were fast enough. The thrusts had to be made within a small window of time or the skill was broken. The problem was actually hitting with so many thrusts consecutively when the enemy was moving, dodging around, striking back, and so forth and so on. Most swordsman, when faced with an enemy who used swords or an enemy that was humanoid, didn't put much stock in it and called it a skill that was 'great on paper'.
 "Heh." Hunter snickered and notched her bow. "[Full Draw]." She pulled the drawstring almost as far as her arms could reach, standing up straight and watching Grimgrieve motionlessly. For the moment she and Forsythe had completely turned their attention to the enemy visage named and trusted on Rat, Riddly, Justin, and the others in Shadow Fall in the vicinity to keep an eye on the ever-increasing number of normal visage in the area. 
Fortunately for them, they were further into the broken-down city and were fighting in a small courtyard with rubble and broken skeletons of buildings surrounding them and were further from the main action of the front ring.
Forsythe pressed forward with a vacant expression on his face, ignoring the sneer that was beginning to appear on the face of the visage before him. Grimgrieve was wearing a half-helm that covered the upper part of his face save for his eyes and left the lower half exposed. His red eyes began to burn with intensity as Forsythe delivered the fourteenth, then the fifteenth, sixteenth, seventeenth strike, parrying each blow to the left and then right of his body with the blackened rapier in his hand effortlessly. 
Right before the eighteenth landed the red eyes casually glanced over at the Silf Hunter who was in full draw position before returning to Forsythe, finally managing to insert a riposte, or a quick jab of his own, between Forsythe's relentless assault. The red eyes widened as Forsythe turned his body slightly and paid no mind to the rapier point that went by half an inch from his right cheek as he stepped in and thrust once more as if he were a mindless Intrepid Strike machine.
"Open," Forsythe spoke to his opponent for the first time as he took that step closer while narrowly dodging. His free-hand, which up till now he had kept behind him or used to keep his balance, moved to the pommel of his sword and his thrust suddenly had a pressure that it had lacked before. "[Power Assist - Intrepid Strike]".
Grimgrieve stilled, the red eyes widening fractionally as he froze, rapier still extended passed Forsythe in a frozen pantomime of a fencing move, three feet of steel pushed through his chest and erupting from his back.
 "[Release]." Hunter breathed, at last, not waiting to see if Forsythe had killed Grimgrieve. The fully drawn arrow rocketed from her bow, hitting the side of his neck and blowing almost all the way through before coming to a stop by the feathers on one side. The visage named drooped slightly, the red eyes beginning to dim somewhat.
 Just as the fight had started initially, now time was frozen in Hunter's vision once again and Elias and Abhy stood in the control room. If anyone had walked in they might have thought they were looking at some sort of weird macabre painting.
"Why does Shadow Fall have all the monsters?" Someone in the silent control room asked.

"You need rules at some point. It was a world far beyond normal rules. Magic. Skills. HP. True death." Aidan sighed. "The rules were 'strike the enemy', 'press forward', 'you are a human being', 'live', 'don't let them die', 'this is the real world', 'laugh and love', 'mourn and grieve', 'remember'."


"What's 10?" Amelia asked, counting twice.


"Secret," Forsythe said. He was grinning uncharacteristically.


"C'mon. We gotta tell her!" Raven complained.


"Make an exception." Aidan finally supplied.


"Well, what is it then?" Amelia demanded.


"Make an exception," Aidan repeated.


"Look I get the other ones, mostly, but that last one…" Amelia complained.


"There comes a spot in your journey where sometimes you have to break a rule. So we had to have a rule about it." Aidan explained.


"Like when?" Amelia chuckled. "Those are pretty all-encompassing generic rules."


"Like when we fought the final boss and died," Aidan said simply, silencing her.


"I imagined more," Forsythe admitted.


"Rules?" Aidan asked, perplexed.


"No, from death," Forsythe said.

Few people knew that the crystal mount of Asurmen had a vast and mysterious interior, let alone the ancient gatekeeper who had been guarding the great sacred place throughout human history. Those who were eligible to enter Asurmen were the popes of the goddess of creation. Through the gatekeeper, the popes could open or close the various chambers of Asurmen at will.
The gatekeeper opened a light door silently. When the door frame flickered a few times, it seemingly stabilized into a portal. On the other side was a crystal chamber filled with a faint halo. Pope Auguste VII nodded slightly to the gatekeeper and stepped into the gate.
The portal shook a little and then closed. August VII arrived at the Astral Chamber inside Asurmen. It was a pyramid-shaped space, where the four walls gradually narrowed and converged into a single point at the top with a large white crystal suspended there, giving a humming sound. Mysterious runes and images moved around on the walls and floor. But humans could only understand a small part of these things even after thousands of years of research by the wisest scholars of the church.
Most of the inside of Asurmen was of such pyramid shape. The only difference between them was size and lighting. It took the scholars many generations to decode the name of some of the chambers, but they were still clueless about the specific functions and operation mechanism of the cells.
The pope was now in the Astral Chamber.
The Astral Chamber was the inscribed name of the entrance and exit from here to other areas, so there was meaning to this name. But the scholars of the church always found the name bemusing. The name Astral Chamber suggested that it was a place to observe the stars or store materials of astrology. But there was no opening in this place at all to watch the sky, and the equipment in the room also had nothing to do with astrology.
In Collow, astrology was an abstruse subject. This world had an ancient sky that had never changed. It was a star image that stayed on the boundary of space when it is isolated from the material universe. The Collow people did not know this secret, but it did not prevent them from knowing about their world from the stars. The stars were static, but there were various illusions produced by the undulating Sea of Carnos projected into the sky. These lights drifted on the natural chessboard formed by the stars and reacted with the starlight to generate turbulence, from which the astrologers would infer the trend of the Chaos and the length of the year of the Order. It was safe to say that the history of astrology of human was as long as the existence of Collow. People in this world were no strangers to astrology.
But there was nothing in the Astral Chamber of Asurmen that was related to astrology. There were only mysterious crystals, of which one of the biggest pieces had strange text flowing on the surface, year after year. Auguste VII believed that this text had some significant meaning. But unfortunately, scholars had so far failed to decode the secrets in this text.
The runes in Asurmen was too esoteric. Even if the pope printed out all the runes and gave them to the highly esteemed linguists to analyze, no one could understand every sentence of this sacred place.
The old pope came to the crystal tower in the center of the Astral Chamber while the gatekeeper followed him silently. As always, the crystal tower was filled with text that no one could understand, but when sensing the arrival of the pope, the text receded to a side and other symbols and images appeared in the air.
Auguste VII placed his hand on the crystal tower and carefully touched the ridges on the surface of the crystal column, and the image in the air changed.
It turned into the image of Collow in the form of a hologram.
But this image was blurry and shaky as if the device was malfunctioning. Some of the text floating on the map was not legible at all. The entire holographic image had only one important marker, which was a ray of light in the central south of the Ansu Continent.
This market had only appeared less than a month ago. Following its appearance, many of the initially closed areas of Asurmen suddenly opened, and the Pope believed that it had to be God's guidance.
"The Ansu Continent... the ancient Cassouin Grand Temple..." The old pope muttered to himself. "This temple, disappeared from the World of Order a thousand years ago, still exists. Goddess, what do you want me to know?"
The hologram, of course, could not answer the pope's question. It just floated quietly in the air, and signal interference made it even blurrier.
Auguste VII switched off the hologram and activated other systems.
He brought up a few interfaces that the mortal could control and understand. One of the interfaces showed the image of the entire sacred crystal mountain. This image was reasonably clear, showing one-third of the holy mountain hidden in the earth, and an incredibly complex structure inside. There were more eye-catching orange markers, the text of which Auguste VII could still understand.

He zoomed in on the image and locked on the crack at the top of the sacred peak. The breach was a terrible penetrating wound with a foreign object stuck in the thickest part of the crack.
A few months ago, a mysterious extraterrestrial object broke through the sky and tore a crack in the sacred mountain of Asurmen. From that day on, the state of the sacred crystal mountain began to decline. Not long ago, even the Light of Order had faded from the sacred peak.
Asurmen had been self-repairing since the impact. Two-thirds of the crack had healed, but the thickest part with the foreign object was still unable to self-restore. And the speed of self-repairing was much slower than the rate of decline of the sacred mountain.
The orange markers at the top of the sacred peak on the hologram denoted warning, while the marker on the crack was red, beside which was a line of text: Warning: #@¥#%@¥ severe damage. Power output is decreasing. Self-repair function restricted. Manual intervention is required immediately.
The old pope looked at the hologram and asked without looking at the gatekeeper, "Is there a way to get there?"
The gatekeeper stood behind him without saying a word.
The old pope knew it meant 'negative.'
If there were anything that was executable, the gatekeeper would have carried out immediately. If the gatekeeper did not respond, it meant that nothing could be done. The gatekeeper was such a robotic guard, unable to reason or even communicate.
The old pope's brows knit together, but he could not say anything to the silent gatekeeper. He knew that it was beyond the limit of mortal ability.
The 'outer-space' object hit the summit of Asurmen, the highest crystal cluster called the Throne of God, was a forbidden land for the mortals. Powerful divine energy shrouded the crystal mountain of Asurmen all the year round. Starting from the foot of the hill, for every 100 meters rise in altitudes, the sacred energy around the mountain wall would double. The energy at the mountainside, at the height of that of the platform on the top of the Basilica Icon, was the limit that mortals could bear. It was for this reason that only the pope or bishops could come to the platform. So it was not just a symbol of status, but also because the strength the mortals were unable to withstand the pressure of Asurmen.
Even Auguste VII, if he climbed to the Throne of God, could only stay for ten minutes, after which the power of the god would burn him into ashes.
So even though everyone knew that the outer-space object, the culprit that caused Asurmen to die slowly, was near to the Throne of God, no one could remove it.
It was impossible to climb to the top of the sacred peak from the outside. Auguste VII once hoped to go up there from inside the holy mountain.
But the gatekeeper never opened the passage to the pope. The mysterious guardian was as if a magic-powered robot adhered to a set of principle mechanically. But compared to this principle, the gatekeeper seemed to be care less about the debilitating reality of Asurmen.
After a while in the Astral Chamber, the pope left.
Instead of leaving Asurmen, Auguste VII let the gatekeeper take him to other open chambers. Some of these chambers have been opened for thousands of years or even tens of thousands of years, while others had just suddenly awakened and appeared from dormancy.
Among the recently-opened chambers, one had attracted the attention of Auguste VII, who had visited this place more than once in the past two weeks.
Structurally, this newly-emerging chamber should be located halfway up the sacred mountain of Asurmen, right in the way of the central axis of the peak. No one realized the existence of this cell until the crystal barrier that blocked the chamber suddenly vanished.
The gatekeeper brought the pope into this so-called Will Hub. Just as before, when stepping into it, Auguste VII immediately felt a soft and low voice sounding in his head.
But the voice was too weak and intermittent. Auguste VII could not understand it.
The pope looked up at the irregular-shaped large crystal in the center of the pyramidal chamber. The crystal was three meters high, and a halo was lingering around it. The crystal seemed to have sealed something inside it.
Auguste VII was indeed no stranger to this scene. He had been studying the crystal for half a month. But even pope as knowledgeable as Auguste VII could not figure out what was inside the crystal.
It was a group of lights, much like the stars in space, inside the crystal.
