Christina put down the dishes on the side of the table as she sat down on the chair in front of Leon before saying, " Is that so? Then can you tell me what you did in school today Leon? "

Leon stopped playing and put the Brick Game on the side before looking at his mother and said, " Sure mom. It's like this... " 

Leon then began telling his mother what happened and what he and Carla did this morning. He told her everything even the things they did in their break time.  

Listening to her son, Christina can't help but laugh from time to time. But even after Leon was done telling her what happened today, she still can't find any reason why Leon teacher would want to talk to her. She also asked Leon if his teacher also called other parents but Leon answered 'no' so Christina thought/believes that it's definitely because of Leon. ' What could it be? ' she thought. 

Leon was also thinking deep at this moment. ' Stupid stupid stupid! Who told you to be such a show off? ' he thought to himself. 

It's not like Leon wanted to show off.  It's just that, he still isn't used to being a 5 years old kid. Most of the time, he still think of him as a 20 years old young man so being able to read, write,  counts or even Calculus was normal for him. 

But Leon knows that he must tell his mother about the reason why his teacher wanted to talk to her so it won't be awkward tomorrow. But the question is... how? 

Leon fell silent for awhile as he also fell into a deep thought like his mother. And after awhile,  Leon looked at his mother and said, " Mom, I think teacher Jennifer wanted to talk to you about how I already know how to write."

Christina's body trembled slightly after hearing that.  She lifted her head to look at her son and saw a hint of hesitation on his face. 

" I'm sorry Leon but mom didn't hear you clearly. Can you repeat what you just said? " 

"  I think teacher Jennifer wanted to talk to you about how I already know how to write. "

" You... Leon you... you know how to write?! " asked Christina in a very surprised tone. It's just too shocking for her because she knows that she never thought Leon how to write yet, so how did he learn it? She looked at Leon and saw him nodded his head indicating that it's true. 

Christina tried her best to calm herself as she took a few deep breaths before asking, " How? How did you learn how to write and when? Why didn't you tell me about this? "

" I...im sorry for hiding it to you mom. I... I want to surprise you. " said Leon. He knows that the best way to solve this problem now was to lie. Although he's feeling bad for lying to his mother, he still did it. He can't just tell her that he returned to his 5 year old self so he knows how to write right? The readers will definitely bash the Author which is a bad thing. 

" Surprise me? Why would you want to surprise me? " asked Christina in a confused tone. 

Instead of answering her question, Leon got up and started running towards his room. 

" Where are you going Leon? I'm still talking to you. " said Christina. She thought that Leon was trying to ran away from her. 

" Wait for me mom, I just need to get something. " said Leon before entering the room. In not even a minute, he came out of the room carrying a folded bond paper in his hand as he returned to his seat and handed it to his mother. 

" It's.... it's because of this mom. I did my best to learn how to write myself because I wanted to give you this. " said Leon as he handed the folded bond paper to his mother. 

Despite her confusion, Christina still received the folded bond paper.She then unfolded it and saw lots of words written in it. She took another glance at Leon and saw him just looking at her shyly as if he's embarrassed. This made her even more confused and also curious at what's written in the paper so she started reading it. 

As she do so, tears started to flow from her eyes. Not because of sadness but because she was so touched. She stared at the paper and held it carefully as if it was the most precious treasure to her. After awhile, Christina looked at Leon and asked, " Did... did you made this for me Leon? " 

" Yes mom. Remember last month? I saw on TV that children are giving their mother something like that and their mother became happy so I also wanted to do the same but... but I don't know how to write yet. I wanted to asked you to teach me so I-. "

" Leon, did you made this letter yourself? " asked Christina interrupting Leon. 

Leon became confused why his mother did that but he still answered, " Yes mom. I made that letter myself. "

Hearing his reply, Christina stood up and went beside Leon before hugging him.  

" I don't know what's stopping you from telling me the truth so I won't ask you anymore but please don't lie to me, your mom okay? I hope this will be the last time. " she said while still hugging her son.

Leon become stunned. He didn't expect this scene. He never expected her mother to be so sharp to notice that he was lying to her because he already succeeded before when he showed her the drawings and also how he learned how to count. 

" You... you can tell mom? I... how? "

" Silly boy. Of course I can tell. If I can't even do that, then how can I still call myself as your mother? " 

" But mom, I really made that letter. I wrote it myself. " 

" I know you write it and I believe you. But I also know that you are not telling me the truth about how did you learn how to write and when. " 

"..."

Leon was stunned once again. ' This.. is this the woman's institution or every mother just know their children that well? ' he thought. 

" Mom. I... I'm sorry. " said Leon apologetically.   This is the only words that he can tell at this moment. No matter what,  he'll never tell anyone even his mother that he was a returner. Never.

" Shhh. You don't have to apologize Leon. Just promise me that this will be the last time you'll lie to me okay? If there is something that's hard for you to tell, then just tell me that you can't and I won't force you to tell it to me. But please don't lie to me okay? Leon? " said Carla as she's gently caressing his back.

* sob *

Hearing that,  Leon's body trembled. Tears also started to flow from his eyes.  

Yes! He's crying at this moment. Leon, a 20 years old soul was crying like a child in his mother's embrace!

" I... I'm sorry mom. * sob *. I.. promise I will never lie to you again. I... I'm sorry but I can't tell you the truth. I'm sorry. " said Leon as tears continue flowing from his eyes as he hugged her mother as tight as he can. 

" There there. " said Christina as she comforted her son. 

" I told you that you don't have to apologize anymore. Your promise is more than enough so you better not break your promise okay? " 

" Okay mom. I'll never lie to you again. Thank you. " 


" Good. Besides, I'm happy to know that my son is very smart. I'm sure your father will also be happy after I'll tell it to him tomorrow. Also, thank you for the letter you gave me Leon. That's so sweet of you. " said Christina as she took out a handkerchief from her pocket and used it to wiped away the tears on Leon's eyes. 

" Stop crying now okay? Take your bath first before you sleep. I'll wash this dishes first. " said Christina. She also didn't ask anymore question to Leon despite her curiosity because she didn't want to make it more difficult for him. 

Leon didn't let go of her mother immediately and just continue hugging her for a few more minutes before nodding his head and finally let go. 

Leon immediately turned around and run towards the bathroom as fast as he can. 

" Thank you mom! You're the best! " he shouted before closing the door. 

" * Giggles *. What a cute child. He already knows how to get embarrassed despite his young age. Did he got that from me? No, he definitely got that from his father. " Christina murmured as she stared at the bathroom's door for awhile before continuing what she's doing earlier.

That morning Jasper, Scarlet, and Alex turned up at school together and it became the hottest topic on campus. By noon, the trio became dubbed as the P.D.F. as a short for Prince, Doll, and Freak.

The attention they got everywhere disrupted classes so much that the teachers allowed the trio to go for a self-study session in the library. Scarlet did a little dance in her head to celebrate ditching boring lessons. The teacher said that as long as they kept their grades up, the school would not take their attendance into consideration. This time, Venessa and Sadiya weren't as surprised when the three little school superstars made their appearance while classes were still in session. apparently, the balding school principal passed down a chain of command to treat them like precious royalty.

The elementary section of the library was on the first level and had no privacy with so many people walking in and out. The atmosphere there was more silent and better for studying with many small private rooms but it didn't come with computers.

"Grandma... are we able to book any room in the library? Even those on the upper floors?"

Grandma Sadiya smiled. "Of course. We've readied your passes to. Also, I thought that you might require a private room with a computer for research purposes. Can I recommend a room that I think you would like?"

Grandma Sadiya's eyes were shining and Scarlet raised a brow. Scarlet didn't think that such a room existed in the library. Still, she wouldn't turn it down if such a room existed.

"We have a librarian office at the back but Venessa and I hardly use it. It's where returned books are shelved and new books are kept for barcoding before being introduced to the system. It's also the only place that has a side door exit to the toilet with a pantry that you can have snacks in."

"Sounds like a good deal," Scarlet admitted. "Is that even allowed?"

Sadiya rolled her eyes and snorted. "I'm the head librarian. If anyone has an issue they can take it up with me... I'll shove my foot so far up thei-"

"Don't say such things! The baby can hear you!" Venessa chided and the head librarian piped down again while grumbling.

Scarlet snickered while Alex looked scandalised by Grandma Sadiya's foul language. The matter was quickly settled and all three children were given special access cards before they were shown to the office. Scarlet had some difficulty reaching the card scanner and had to jump to tap the card. Alex thought that it was adorable but kept the comment to herself. Jasper said something about Scarlet's size and was given a merciless kick to the shin. She didn't want to mess with the school Doll no matter how cute she thought Scarlet was.

After getting cosy with milo and biscuits, the trio was finally given some privacy. Scarlet took five minutes to clean the plate off food while the ancient-looking bulky computer whirred to life. It was very slow, but it did the job. Scarlet tapped her fingers impatiently while the screen loaded and Alex wondered what the fuss was all about. Jasper didn't care so much and started flipping through a new book he picked out from the neatly stacked cardboard boxes.

A few minutes later after many rapid clicks and tapping on the keyboard, Scarlet let out a triumph cry.

"Ok, now we can commence our secret meeting. In today's meeting, we shall decide on a team name and the plan to become independent financially and socially. For starters, I will let you know who I truly am."

Jasper put the book down, interested in what the odd girl had to say for herself. Alex was confused but went with the flow. Scarlet showed them a very dull looking weblog page and signed in. neither of them recognised what that was but from the background stats, Scarlet had a few hundred subscribers. That was a rather good pool of followers for someone so young. They were more surprised when Scarlet admitted that she hasn't started the Human Observation Journal too long ago.

"Yes, it is I - Pirate S. the captain of this blog. As you can see, I think I have a flair for writing so the first part of the Grand Plan towards freedom would be to publish a book because books make a lot of money right?"

Jasper and Alex shared a look. Was Scarlet serious?

"I don't know how to write books, I can't even do a proper essay..." Jasper admitted. While he excelled without effort for Math and Science, the same could not be said for language.

Alex shook her head when Scarlet looked at her. "I don't know anything about writing books. Ah! I could help you draw the cover if you'd like. I've been secretly watching videos about drawing using a software and I find it fascinating."

"We only have one computer here and it isn't going to work very well for drawing," Jasper pointed out.

Alex smiled brightly. "Don't worry about it, I'll just ask for a laptop from my father. He should have many spares lying around in the company, it shouldn't be difficult for him to get a hold of one for me."

Jasper and Scarlet looked at Alex with raised brows although the boy's eyebrows were hidden beneath his bangs. For all the shortcomings Alex had, being rich was probably a redeeming feature in a group like theirs.

"That's actually going to help us a lot... thank you Alex!" Scarlet smiled plastically but Alex thought it was the sincerest thing in the world and blurted out that they should feel free to request more things from her if she could be of any help.

"How about packed meals?" Jasper suggested. "That way we won't need to waste time queuing in the cafeteria for food. I don't think the librarians will mind if we eat there as long as we don't make too much of a mess..."

Scarlet took out a foolscap pad and pencil case from her bag. She wrote in big letters at the top of the page things that they required. Jasper and Alex threw in ideas that seemed great at first but a little more ridiculous after ten minutes when Alex suggested bringing a spare luxurious Italian leather sofa from one of her guest rooms for sitting comfort.

"Ok, let's take it slow and stop for now... we're only starting to make a plan so that I can convince your mother. Let's start thinking about the Team name so that we can publish the book."

"I'm not going to be of much help here," Jasper pointed out and Scarlet shook her head before pointing the pencil in his direction. "You're going to help us with research and tutor us before the exams. Although we're given special privileges, I don't think Mrs Wilde will be pleased if it starts affecting our grades."

The boy shrugged. "I guess I can do that then. How about using the name the school gave us? P.D.F.?"

Scarlet thought about it and frowned. "Sounds too geeky. besides, Prince, Doll & Freak sounds like a very random author name. Nobody will take the story seriously..."

"What is the story you're going to write?" Alex asked.

Scarlet grinned. "I'm going to write about a super-being who lost his memories and goes on an adventure to find out who he truly is. I haven't decided on the title yet..."

"I still think I like P.D.F. because it represents the three of us... how about keeping it but changing the initials to something like Pretty Dancing Fairy?"

Scarlet cringed internally at Alex's naming sense and Jasper coughed to disguise his laugh. That kind of name with the storyline didn't match.

"I think we need something more suited for the story's genre... how about something like Permanent Discovery Fantasy?"

Scarlet frowned. "Sounds too much of a mouthful. Permanent Fantasy?"

Alex shook her head. "We don't want this to just be a fantasy, do we? Permanent... Freedom?"

While it sounded close to what they wanted, Permanent Freedom sounded odd. "Freedom always comes at a cost," Jasper reminded them.

"Freedom and cost huh..." Scarlet sighed and reflected on the events that happened yesterday. While the other two children were thinking hard, an idea hit Alex hard and she clapped her hands with excitement.

"Frost! It's short for the phrase 'Freedom comes at a cost'! Permanent Frost, how does that sound now? It's like our own secret code too..."

Jasper patted Alex's head. "That's a good one, I like it. What about you?" he asked Scarlet who was nodding too.

"It's actually really good. Who knew that you had it in you?"

Alex frowned. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"Nothing," came the innocent reply and Scarlet wrote down Permanent Frost on the paper.

Finally, they were truly a team.

At age 10, Scarlet Liu Xiu Wen was tested with a Mensa IQ of 156.

By age 12, she was publishing books with the pen name Permanent Frost. By age 14, she was a successful vocalist-composer in the band called Britannia. By age 16 Scarlet had a successful career as a model and actress going by the stage name of Liu Xiu Wen.

However, there was a secret that the world didn't know. Away from the limelight, Scarlet took on yet another persona online as Pirate S - the eccentric half-genius. Everyone who lurked in the forums knew her name. Known for her unusual takes on life and mostly popularly for her "Human Observation Diary" blog, Scarlet enjoys the nerd life in secret.

Human Observation Diary has always kept to a very standard format but one day, a reader pointed out that the blog has recently been differing from its usual format. Intrigued by the trigger, Scarlet investigates her latest human observation - an online NEET by the name of Jedd77.

From further interactions, Scarlet finds herself helplessly drawn to him. As their friendship develops into something more, Scarlet has to make a choice.

To give up her secrecy and allow Jedd77 to be a part of her life? Or continue the game of cat and mouse even after the face reveal.

By the time Qin Zhi'ai had finished reading her book, Gu Yusheng still hadn't woken up.
Qin Zhi'ai sat on the sofa for a long time thinking about how she still hadn't written back to Mr. S since she had received his last letter some time ago.
With a piece of writing paper tucked into the book she had just read, she took a pen from her bag, squatted at the tea table, and began a letter to Mr. S.
She first apologized to him, saying that she had been busy recently, with little time to write back. Then she inquired about how everything was going with him.
She mentioned the movie he had recommended in his previous letter, that she wanted to see it, especially because of how popular it had become, but unfortunately she hadn't had time yet.
She also told him that her close friend was going to get married and she was going to be her bridesmaid. She wrote about how happy she was for her friend.
And she especially thanked him for the photos of the snow scenery at Changbai Mountain, which he'd taken especially for her. She also mentioned that she had been looking forward to going to Changbai Mountain when she had a chance in the future.
Because New Year's Day had recently passed, she wrote some wishes for him and, with the Spring Festival less than three weeks away, she expressed her concern about any tasks he might be assigned during the festival.
At the end of the letter, recalling the touching words of his, she stopped for a moment before continuing to write.
"Mr. S, I hadn't expected you to be such an affectionate and good man. I believe that you'll be blessed, and you will meet a wonderful girl in the future. You will be deeply in love with each other."
And then Qin Zhi'ai picked up on the joke they'd been passing back and forth in their letters. "Mr. S, I had thought of you as a man of great literary talent. Did you not get perfect scores in the Chinese exams when you were in school?"
Qin Zhi'ai had meant to finish up but, when she raised her head, she glimpsed Gu Yusheng lying on the bed. She gently pursed her lips, lowered her head, and continued to write a few words.
"Mr. S, I met the boy I loved again.
"I suffer for loving him every day. I don't want to care so much about him, but I can't control myself.
"Do you know, Mr. S, if two people aren't equally in love with each other, the one who shows the affection for the other will always feel aggrieved?"
Qin Zhi'ai put down her pen and read her letter carefully from beginning to end. After confirming that it had no mistakes, she picked up the pen again. As soon as she was ready to sign "A," she heard a creak coming from the bed.
She looked sideways at Gu Yusheng, who was awake and struggling to sit up.
Having probably gotten up because he saw her writing something, he asked, "What are you writing about?"
Qin Zhi'ai noticed that his eyes were fixed on the paper in front of her. She knew that he couldn't clearly see the words. And she knew that even if he saw them, he wouldn't know that he was the man she was talking about, but she was still compelled to keep her secret from coming to light. She subconsciously covered the letter with a book, shaking her head and replying, "Nothing."
He said "hmm" in a low voice, looked at the corner of the paper under the book for a while, and then turned away.
She had moved swiftly to cover up the writing on the paper, but Gu Yusheng knew it was a letter.

One day, she slept with him accidentally. Two month later, she found herself pregnant, so they got married with baby.
“Mr. Gu, I like the dishes of this restaurant.” Then the chef of that restaurant was hired as theirs. 
“Mr. Gu, I like the bags of that brand.” Then the designer of that brand was employed exclusively for her. 
She thought of herself as a stranger to him after marriage as she had always been, but in fact he doted on her totally beyond her imagination. He would satisfy all her demands, except letting her find a job. 
She kind of got anxiously bored at home, so she sneaked out to find herself a job. However, whichever company she was hired by would go bankrupt somehow or other. 
Finally, she got to know it had been always him who had done mischief surreptitiously. She went to question him angrily, but he gave her a job with a smirky smile. The next day when she went to take the office with delight, she found her employee ID card on the desk said ‘Name: Qin Zhi’ai, Position: Wife of Gu Yusheng’.

Some authors in chat talked about a book's worth. 

Most agreed that its value depends on the readers' willingness to pay for a novel. And the most selling here in WN are romance and h e n t a i.

Honestly, it is true in a sense that most authors who don't write these two genres or have the general audience receive lesser income to none. However, there are also other genres that are popular.

What saddening is that a story which has no s** will be buried deep in the list of books.

One time, a person told me that he won't read books without s**. I think you understand what I mean.

Sad... 

Those good literary authors will just choose Amazon. I totally agree with that.

But, is that what really makes a book valuable? So, the authors will just resort to writing stories with s**  since most will welcome it.

I feel sad if it is.

I've been reading and watching epic and classic stories like Mary Poppins, The Twelve Kingdoms, Fushigi Yuugi, The Vision of Escaflowne, Star Wars, Anne of Green Gables, Pride and Prejudice, Little Women, and others. 

These are great books but I'm not sure if the new generation is still reading them.

Hoping they are.

So, what is the worth of a writer? Of a person's storyteller's heart and creativity?

Will it just be buried deep in isolation? Will it just be following the flow of readership and abandon its desire to produce good stories?

I disagree. We still love good stories. There are still more readers who love good reads. In fact, these type of stories are more engaging and imploring. Those epic stories won't be called epic if no one reads them anymore. They are classified as such because their worth is beyond trends.

They simply go against the flow and create a tsunami, leaving people awestruck.

That is the type of book I want to write. I prefer to be remembered as an author who writes good stories without compromising the principles I believe.

Don't get me wrong. There are still good books with a bit of those s** things out there that you can read. But they don't focus on those scenes but on the story itself.

I am a person who never follows trends. And I care less what people call me. I will rather be true to myself than to follow the crowd and lose my self-respect.

In my opinion, the worth of a story is not only on the business side but also on how much heart and effort the author gives to his/her books.

To authors: Let us enjoy writing good stories. Let us be proud of what we write for not everyone can be authors. And not all writers can finish a book. The truth, most books here are unfinished.

To readers: Support good books and give the authors that confidence to continue writing good stories. Without your support, the authors might give up. If no one read good stories, then there's no point on writing one. But I believe most readers still love those type of books.
