A little horror story by a little author. ♡

A 19 year old girl wakes up to the mysterious yet horrifying death of both her parents in the middle of the night. With the blood of her parents soaked all over her clothes and her being the only survivor raised a vast number of questions, which led to her being taken in to be questioned by the authorities. However, due to the lack of evidence she was no longer considered a suspect and any investigations that were done one her had been dropped. Consequently, she was set free. 

10 years later, now at 29 after the shadowy death of her parents she managed to gather all the courage she possibly could and finally decided to return home for the first time since the disturbing night. The house she once felt comfort in stood there, untouched. The walls still covered with the blood of her beloved parents and her room just as messy as she had left it the night of the murder, it suddenly dawned on her, the house was a graveyard of clues with mysteries waiting to be solved. Yet through it all, she hoped that maybe, just maybe she might finally find peace. 

But little does she know that she is about to unleash a terrifying truth about her parent's which is set to reveal many secrets and a darkness that is unknown to this world. A darkness that will change her life forever and destroy the precious memories of her beloved mother and father, a darkness that will turn everything around her into a world that can no longer be explained.

A terrifying truth that one may find in horror films and the reality she knows will soon be nothing but a distant memory as she is set to reside in a reality where demons walk on the face of the earth in braod daylight. 

Milo, Chris, Cara, and Joshua were all heroes that were brought to the world of Vurd to help defeat the Demon King. In exchange for defeating him, the four kids will be sent back to their homeworld.

After several years of training, the Heroes come face to face with the Demon King. Despite their training, all the Heroes but Joshua die. Successfully killing the Demon King, Joshua is sent back to his world and wakes up in his bed the same night him and his friends were supposedly taken.

Follow Joshua through his journey as he figures out how to live once more in a "normal" society after experiencing a completely different life.

This is my submission for the Writing Prompt: Escape.

As soon as Hailee saw Alex open the door to her bedroom and ask her to get out of the place where Roland had been holding her for the past few hours, she knew that Ramon had managed to crush that old sleazy ball.
 
And what's more, Hailee knew that she would be fine after this man's arrival.
 
As she passed Alex, Hailee deliberately stopped and cast a sharp glare at him, before she walked toward the front door where Ramon was waiting.
 
At first, Hailee thought the two of them might be talking in the living room or other room in this house, but it turned out that Ramon didn't come into the house at all and was actually standing in the front yard, staring boringly at the old attorney.
 
However, that didn't matter to Hailee now, as she was happy enough just to see Ramon there. Looking all relaxed and handsome as usual.
 
Leaning against the car behind him, Ramon stared at Roland with lazy eyes, as if he didn't think much of the district attorney.
 
Seeing this, Hailee really wanted to laugh out loud. She didn't make the wrong choice after all, choosing Ramon Tordoff indeed was a jackpot!
 
Her heart seemed to jump out of her chest with pleasure, but what Hailee did next, was completely different from how she felt.
 
When she stepped out of the house, the expression on her happy face and the triumphant smile on her lips, immediately vanished, replaced by a face full of sadness and fear, as if Roland had just tormented her sadistically.
 
This insta change in Hailee's facial expression stunned even Alex, who was walking beside her, he didn't realize what this girl was up to until she ran toward Ramon with open arms and hugged him tightly.
 
"He slapped me…" Hailee whined, her voice so pathetic as if Roland had just killed her entire family. "Look…" the girl lifted her head and showed the side of her face that was red, from Aileen's slap, not Roland's.
 
"What?" Roland was no less surprised, let alone slapping, he hadn't even touched her since Hailee set foot in his house.
 
"He slapped you?" Ramon squinted his eyes, the lazy look from his eyes instantly disappeared, replaced by a stern expression as he clenched his jaw in annoyance at seeing the side of Hailee's face that was so red.
 
"What? No!" Roland rejected it at that instant itself, he felt his blood turn cold under Ramon's piercing gaze. "I didn't slap her. Hailee, stop lying!" scolded Roland angrily. "Aileen slapped you, not me!"
 
But, instead of answering that, Hailee sobbed against Ramon's chest while the man tapped him on the shoulder with a slightly confused expression.
 
Even if it was true that Roland had slapped Hailee, Ramon didn't think it would make this girl cry this sad, would it?
 
However, as if to answer Ramon's confusion, Hailee then said, "What if the swelling didn't go away during our marriage? I don't want to be caught on camera with swollen cheeks."
 
Right at that moment, Ramon understood what Hailee wanted.
 
This girl ...
 
If Ramon and Hailee were alone, the man would have pinched her red cheeks because she had such a strong urge for extracting revenge.
 
Unfortunately, under so many pairs of eyes watching them closely, Ramon could only accommodate Hailee's wish.
 
"Mr. Dimatrio, I won't forget this." Ramon squeezed Hailee's shoulder lightly, asking her quietly to end her acting.
 
Hailee raised her head with a frown. Her forehead creased and looked at Ramon as if to say; just like that?
 
"Let's go home," said Ramon in an indisputable voice.
 
Hailee pursed her lips and wiped her tears on the shirt Ramon was wearing on purpose, then cast a disapproving look at Roland.
 
Hailee was glad that Ramon was here and knowing his nature, he must have done something to repay what Roland did to her, right? But, why were they going back so soon, when Hailee wanted to see more?
 
"We'll get to city A very late if we stay here any longer," said Ramon, opening the door for Hailee.
 
"Mr. Tordoff, believe me, Aileen slapped her," Roland was still trying to convince Ramon, but the man didn't even look at him before he got into the car.
 
What is this?
 
"Mr. Tordoff, that girl is very cunning! You have to check her background and you will find out that you have been lied to!" cried Roland as the car sped away.

"You can stop crying now," Ramon said, glancing at Hailee, then at the wet stain on his shirt from the girl's tears. With a deep frown on his forehead, Ramon grabbed the tissue and started cleaning it.
 
This girl is really troublesome ...
 
"Just like that? You didn't do anything after he kidnapped me?!" Hailee really stopped crying, but her face turned fierce as she cast an irritated look at Ramon. "He kidnapped me!" Hailee confirmed again.
 
"Of course I understand, why do you think I came all the way here?" Ramon replied to Hailee's words and threw the tissue he had used to clean his shirt at the girl. "You're not even thankful, what kind of attitude is that?" Ramon scolded.
 
Hearing Ramon's words, Hailee immediately put on a cute face and approached Ramon, wrapping her hand around the man's arm.
 
"Thank you for coming and saving me!" Hailee exclaimed cheerfully and rewarded Ramon with a sweet kiss on the cheek. "But, I would be even happier if you gave him a punch or two."
 
"You think I'm a street fighter?" Ramon glanced at Hailee in annoyance, even though she complained with her tears staining his shirt, but that man was not at all bothered by their closeness. "Don't equate me with your friend."
 
"Ian is a not a street fighter," Hailee argued, resentful of Ramon looking down on her best friend. Ian was indeed a fighter, but he was not a street fighter like Ramon had assumed.
 
However, seeing this man's jaw tighten and staring at her with a very clear expression of dislike, Hailee knew that she had spoken the wrong word again.
 
Therefore, she immediately returned to kissing Ramon's cheek and rested her head on his shoulder. "Thank you for coming looking for me, I don't know what will happen to me if you don't find me." Hailee didn't exaggerate her words this time.
 
Seeing the girl beside him acting so cute, Ramon leaned his back against the back of the chair, letting Hailee hug his arms and act spoiled.
 
It was then that Ramon saw Hailee's flushed cheeks and he rubbed them lightly. "Hurt?"
 
"It hurts so much," Hailee whimpered again.

“I think we couldn't do 'that' just yet, since you're still recovering…” Hailee answered hesitantly, trying to find a reasonable excuse for her current situation.
 
"Bulsh * t," Ramon cursed and got out of their extraordinarily luxurious bed. With impatient steps, the man approached Hailee, like a hunter about to catch his prey. “I'll prove that I'm okay. Better than the best." He confirmed his last word with a meaningful smile.
 
“…” Ugh!

Hailee found herself being sold by her adopted sister, Aileen, after the death of their parents in an accident.
 
However, on the very night she was supposed to serve the bastard who had won the auction, Hailee managed to escape by killing him.
 
Now, Hailee was in fresh pursuit and must flee the city to escape the accomplices of the man she killed.
 
While she was fleeing from her pursuers, Hailee accidentally met Ramon who was dying from an accident, to avoid those who were after her, Hailee pretends to be Giana, the lover Ramon had been hiding from the public eye.
 
Things got more complicated when Ramon woke up and said he couldn't remember anything.
 
Hailee of course can take advantage of this and continue pretending to be Giana, but how long? And what about the real Giana?

"I'm guessing you aren't in a good situation back in the Zhong Clan. I remember when we first met in Pingxi Prefecture, you were only accompanied by a maid and a coachman. There were no escorts…"
Zhong Ruolan smiled. "My father was Zhong Hong'an's patrilineal cousin. He was considered to be a gifted and talented individual with outstanding capabilities in the Zhong Clan when he was young. However, he never had any opportunities to show it because he was from the branch house and was constantly overshadowed. Back when the descendants from the Zhong Clan were given an opportunity to join the four major sects, the disciples from the main house got in while my father wasn't able to, even though they were less competent than him.
"Then, when the Zhong Clan was selecting their best candidates to manage the Datong Monetary House in every prefecture, my father wasn't chosen for the very same reason. In the end, he was only appointed to manage a small textile shop before he passed away when I was eight years old. If it wasn't for you this time, the Zhong Clan would've married me off as the second wife to Lan Provincial Governor Du Yuefeng's foolish son…"
"Is that why you have been afraid to reveal your true capabilities in the Zhong Clan?"
"As a weak girl who has no one to rely on at home, I can't act too stupid or else I'd be bullied and looked down by the others. Yan Liqiang let out a sigh. "The prosperity of a clan depends on its people. It would seem like the Zhong Clan is inevitably involved in malpractice, just like many other influential clans!"
"Everyone can understand the principle, but when faced with real choices, it is simply too difficult for one to make selfless choices!"
"You have really suffered over the years in the Zhong Clan!"
"I am already yours now, so do you believe me?"

Zhong Ruolan suddenly flipped over and pinned Yan Liqiang underneath her. She bit her lip and looked at him with her conflicted eyes. "If I tell you I wish to overpower the Zhong Clan and make everyone in the main house prostrate themselves before me, will you think… will you think that I'm a very scary woman?"
Yan Liqiang laughed. "You wish to push the Zhong Clan down?"
"No, I want to rise above the Zhong Clan. I want the world to know that those famous figures from the Lan Province's Zhong Clan are nothing. Even a girl from the branch house who was cast aside by the Zhong Clan can compete with those who stayed in the clan in the northwestern region!"
This was Zhong Ruolan's obsession. Likewise, everyone had their own obsessions.

Yan Liqiang touched his chest in the carriage. As he recalled the events that had transpired last night, he couldn't help but smile at the aftertaste. It seemed like he had made some unexpected harvest over his trip to Pingxi City this time.
The carriage stopped at the gates to Pingxi City because the road was blocked.
The coachman knocked on the carriage's partition, then pulled open the little ornate window made of copper at the front of the carriage, "Young Lord, an army is entering the city through the gates ahead of us. Please wait for a moment as our carriage can't pass through!"
"Oh, alright!" Yan Liqiang immediately opened the door and alighted the carriage to check on the situation.
The street was already jammed with a few bailiffs maintaining the order. Yan Liqiang could spot austere soldiers dressed in shiny armor at the city gates from a hundred meters away. They were carrying long spears as they marched into Pingxi City. The townspeople stuck their heads out from the windows of buildings on both sides of the street...
"Excuse me, old sir. Do you know where these soldiers have come from?"
An old man by the street cast a glance at Yan Liqiang then at the lavish four-wheeled carriage beside him before a smile appeared on his face. "They are all from our Gan Province Army. Rumor has it that things have been chaotic at the Gulang Plains and the Provincial Governor is worried for the safety of Pingxi Prefecture, so he is deploying an army to strengthen the defense at the White Stone Pass. They are passing by Pingxi City so they will convene here!"
"Thank you, old sir!"
"You're welcome, Young Lord!"
Wang Jianbei and Lei Sitong were really moving fast. A thought flashed across Yan Liqiang's mind. He counted the days and concluded that these soldiers were probably mobilized before he agreed on forking out two million taels of silver to clean up the mess in the city. Otherwise, there was no way the Gan Province Army could make it here so quickly. Wanting others to fork out money to take the lives of the Shatu people was indeed Lei Sitong's style of doing things.
They'll probably make the move in the next few days. I mustn't miss a party like this…!

Chapter 42: Confrontation
When Charles walked out of the Withering Shadows department, the sky was bright as silver, and the hot north wind was blowing the heat straight into his face. Inhaling the hot air, Charles walked on the muddy road and then went to the Life Church in deep thoughts.
'My life is in danger? Who is after me? Addie Baker?' He furrowed his brows for a moment and soon sighed.
'I just stared at his house for few seconds. But he seems to have sensed something... Wait... Is he the [Astrologer] class Mystic? No, his skills seem to be mind-related ones. He must be a [Dreamer] or a [Psychatrist] Class Mystic. Maybe a sub-class? It is possible. If not, how did he find out about the change in his fate?' He paused for a moment and soon thought of another possibility.
'He might have some 'Fate' related artifact. Earlier, Team Leader Emilia also used a strange artifact to peek into my future and finds out about the upcoming threat. Thankfully, Team Leader is following me from behind as a backup. From now on, I need to think twice before acting.' He thought to himself and then entered into a dome-shaped building.
As usual, he walked on the aisle with light footsteps, stopped in front of the Goddess Nira's statue, clapped his hand together, and then started muttering a strange 'Praising' incantation. After a minute of long chant, he inhaled deeply and then bowed his head towards the statue.
"Life is Eternal." He said in praise.
After that, he turned around and then walked out of the Life Church.
He went to Ivy Street's end, walked into a small gloomy alley, found an abandoned house nearby, and then walked in.
A few minutes later, a black-haired woman walked out of the abandoned house and then moved to another gloomy alley. She wore a pleated white shirt, flared black skirt, high-heeled black shoes, and held a bell sleeve jacket in her right hand. She had deep-set jade eyes, an oval face, tan skin, and looked around 25-years-old.
After reaching the end of the gloomy alley, she stopped in front of the one-meter tall compound wall and jumped over. Her black skirt fluttered in the air as she landed on the other side and then started walking towards another dark alley.
It was a shortcut route from Ivy Street to Gold Street. Within a few minutes, Charles in Edith's appearance made a few turns and soon reached Gold Street. Unlike the last time, Edith noticed that the Gold Street looked gloomier and showed an unsettling expression on her face. At this time, there would be at least tens of citizens pass by his side, but today, there was none in the street. It was as if someone had already cleared the citizens and was waiting for her to walk through.
While Edith was in deep thoughts, a silk curtained luxurious carriage came from the opposite direction and soon stopped a few feet away from her. Wearing the bell-sleeved jacket over her white shirt, Edith turned her face solemnly and stared coldly at the carriage.
A second later, a rough hand opened the silk curtain and revealed a human's face to Edith.
In the meantime, Edith's gaze swept past the opened silk curtain and soon landed on a red-haired man, who was looking at her in confusion.
He looked around 30-years-old with a slightly obese body and had crimson eyes, an oval face, skinny eyebrows, and strange bluish teethes. He wore a tight blue suit and appeared very familiar to Edith.
"Get in." The red-haired man stared at her for a moment and then ordered.
Edith's mind suddenly entered a half-conscious state at this time, and she felt that some invisible power was trying to control her emotions. Unlike the last time, Edith noticed that she could resist the other party's ability for the next three to four seconds and went on a battle mode.
'Addie Baker.' As she identified the red-haired man in an instant, she didn't hold back any longer and cast [Burning Thoughts] on him.
A moment later, Addie felt a sudden burning sensation in his mind and got puzzled by his current situation. He suddenly couldn't understand why he came to Gold Street and became utterly clueless!
Edith also suddenly woke up from the half-conscious state and got relieved.
Grasping the opportunity, Edith pointed her finger at Addie Baker and cast the [Incinerate] spell.
A condensed ray of red fire appeared from his forefinger and soon went towards Addie in a blink.
Addie's eyes suddenly shone in red color as he moved his hand a little and blinked his eyes twice.
A heartbeat later, his body blurred for a moment and soon disappeared from there!
It was his unique skill called Escape Danger. When the user was in danger, this skill would activate its own and forcefully teleport the user to another location. This skill would trigger even if the user were in an unconscious state. But there was a restriction, though. The distance of the 'Teleportaion' would be based on the user's understanding of this skill.
Meanwhile, the ray of fire directly tore through the air and soon landed on the carriage seat.
Within a second, the raging fire began to spread from the seat and burned the carriage fiercely. Unfortunate for the butler-suited coachman, the fire directly devoured him from behind and completely absorbed him into the crimson flame. In two seconds, the luxurious carriage burned, no! It disintegrated into ashes!
Although the coachman cried to seek help from his boss, it fell into deaf ears.
Edith, on the other hand, clicked her tongue and then looked around in wary eyes.
'Where did he go?' She furrowed his brows and soon cast [Crimson Robe] spell on herself. As she cast this spell, a tangled fire symbol red robe suddenly appeared on her clothing and completely enveloped her. Simultaneously, she took out the Starfall Codex Magic book from the void pouch and flipped the pages in a fast manner.
She soon stopped her hand on the fourth page and started muttering few words in a Runal Language. Three seconds later, she curled her lips upward as she locked his gaze on a particular area and smirked.
It was a Rank-1 spell called, Spatial Sense!
Once the user cast this spell, they would sense the surrounding areas for a brief moment.
In a second, Edith's look changed from a normal woman to a mysterious Fire Mage!
Even Addie Baker, hiding thirty meters away from Edith in his concealed form, became stunned for a moment and soon got tensed up.
Meanwhile, Edith took a step forward as she held a black-covered book in her hand and began to walk in Addie's direction while muttering another strange incantation. But whenever she took a step forward, some fire sparks would appear around her shoes and began to intervene with the space law itself!
Edith's every step decreased the distance between her and Addie Baker by a great margin!
Addie also sensed the seriousness and took out a strange gold coin from his pocket.
Before Edith could arrive near him, he tossed the coin upward and muttered a word in a strange tone.
''*******.''
A spatial ripple appeared behind Addie in the next moment and soon formed into a bluish vortex. After that, two bony hands suddenly appeared behind his back and began to pull Addie into the vortex.
Of course, Edith wouldn't allow him to escape. As the bony hand started pulling Addie into a void, a strange illusionary closed-eyelid appeared on her forehead as she ended her chanting and soon began to open the third eye!
But this time, she didn't aim at the Addie Baker, though. Instead, she locked her third eye's gaze on the bony hand and wholly opened the vertical black eye!
A moment later, a strange purple bolt of lightning came out from the illusionary eye and directly landed on the bony hand!
The purplish lightning disintegrated the bony hand in the next moment and soon disappeared into the bluish void. Before long, the other bony hand also retracted into the bluish vortex and soon disappeared. Addie Baker also noticed the failure of the long-ranged teleportation method and grew solemn. But he didn't lose his calm, though. Instead, he let out a cold laugh and then clapped his hand.
With a slight vibration, a black-lined icy spear began to form in front of Addie and soon moved towards Edith faster. Edith's [Sixth Sense] skill also sensed the impending danger and warned her to dodge.
'It looks like [Crimson Robe] spell won't be able to block this spear.' She frowned for a moment and then took out an Arcane Card from her void pouch.
"Addie Baker, you really have some guts to attack my team member." Before Edith could activate the Arcane Magic Card, a cold female voice came from the nearby dark alley, and soon a grey-robed female, around 40 years old, with a slightly wrinkled face, walked out from it.
Simultaneously, hundreds of white threads popped out from the muddy ground and soon formed into a wall-like shield in front of Edith. A banging sound echoed as the spear crashed on the icy-wall-like shield and soon broke into many pieces.
"Team Leader!" Edith breathed out a sigh of relief as she noticed Emilia's arrival and soon warned her in a pleasant female voice.
"He is a [Psychiatrist] class Mystic, and also has the ability to created Ice spear, so be careful."
"Heh, that's interesting." Emilia arrived beside Edith as she locked her gaze on Addie Baker for a moment and then sighed.
"A Double Class Mystic, huh. He is really a troublesome opponent to face alone." After saying those words, she glanced at Edith and said.
"Save your strength for now." Once she finished those words, she took out a silver card from her void pouch and crushed it a little.
A second later, the space around Addie Baker began to fold strangely and soon sealed him in a cube-like space. On the other hand, Addie raised his hand a little, placed it on the cubic space's interior, and then created a foggy-mist inside the space.
Before Edith and Emilia could understand his action, the cubic space shook for a second and soon broke into multiple pieces like grasses while creating a strange black void. Upon noticing the appearance of the strange void, Emilia furrowed her brows and soon spoke gravely.
"Be careful of any sneak attacks."
After that, she controlled her Ice net spell and moved those icy threads in different directions. Within two seconds, she curled her lips upward and pointed her finger in a random direction. In a second, a golden ring in her hand began to tremble slightly and then released a ray of pure white light.
An instant later, the white ray of light traveled at an unimaginable speed and soon landed on an invisible shield-like thing.
The white ray then divided into multiple rainbow-colored rays and soon attacked the invisible shield from all directions. Within two seconds, the shield couldn't hold off those rainbow rays and then broke like glasses while exposing the red-haired Addie to Emilia and Edith.
But instead of smiling, both of them turned their faces solemnly and took a step back in unison.
In the meantime, Emilia also controlled her 'Ice Net' spell and made a wall-like shield in front of them.
But before those icy web-like threads tangled together to form a wall, a chilling ray of ice came from Addie's hand, directly tore through the Ice Net-like wall, broke the Crimson Robe and soon landed on Edith's shoulder!

The last round was brief, uneventful… it went on as if nothing tense had happened, and no one on that table batted an eye at the promise of Chris walking me home… Were we still too young to look at those things with some malice? Was it still so natural, in our age, to get a ride home from a trusted adult? A cold wind blew outside when all six of us walked up from the small room. 
The courtyard, the building, the entire school grounds seemed completely vacant and dark, like we'd been forgotten. I thought the boys would get excited at the idea of being the only ones there, I thought they'd suggest we extend the night a little longer to explore and drink and do other forbidden things to enjoy this rare opportunity… but it seems even they were a bit uneasy at the lateness of the hour, at the state of things, at being here still, when no one else was. 
Their energy was gone, they said an unceremonious goodbye and disbanded quickly once we reached the sidewalk.  One of them, Jamie, the street-smart one, did look over his shoulder when at some distance, watching as Chris and I lingered behind, something striking him as strange. I was glad he didn't know… glad no one knew what I felt about Chris. If they did, it would be easy to draw strange, immoral conclusions - Conclusions that would make the Principal much angrier than the idea of me kissing a 17-year-old. They'd also get Chris into trouble. The thought disturbed me greatly, and suddenly the idea of being walked home by him wasn't idyllic anymore. I was scared.
"As promised…" he sighed "Come on, let's get you home…"
"Oh, please! You don't have to… I can walk myself. It's okay!" I shrugged, smiling awkwardly. 
He shifted his posture, frowning down at me as if he was mad. It was always so uncomfortable for me… contradicting people!
"What?"
"I… I live very close by. It's okay…" I was painfully aware I repeated 'it's okay' way too many times in that short conversation, I just couldn't help it "I can go…" I pointed awkwardly at the general direction of my house. Chris watched, confused.
"What are you talking about!" he chided " Come on, it's no trouble for me. Unless… Unless you really don't want me to."
"What? No! It's not that! I just… I don't…" I tried to explain, but nervousness only made my social skills worse.
For what was worth, that awkwardness seemed to amuse, for Chris, who watched me with a confused frown, let out a heartfelt chuckle at my embarrassment.
"You can tell me what's the matter, I'll understand." He sighed, his blue eyes looking away, absorbed… probably bored. "Will your parents be mad? Do you have a dog there that will bite me? …A crazy uncle with a shotgun?"
"No…" I laughed, and he mimicked it with a smile "I don't… none of those things…"
"Then I don't see what's the problem!" He tossed a brown leather jacket over his shoulder, beginning to walk "This way?"
I smiled: no chance of escaping the situation now. I liked that, too… I added it to the list of things full-grown men did: they got things done. No excuses. No complications… Chris was walking me home. Smiling, unafraid, as he paced backwards, his face to me:
"You'd better tell me now, because I'll just keep walking in this direction!"
I sauntered behind him.  
 
I was happy – there was no denying it. I was glad he didn't let my awkwardness deprive me of that moment. Chris was walking me home… His tall, broad-shouldered figure, darkened by the moonlight… crossing my streets, my most familiar path, making animated remarks here and there about the quiet neighborhood, the trees… anything, whenever silence fell too heavy. I regretted I had to live so damn close to the school… I wanted that walk to last forever.
"Is this place always so quiet?" he looked around himself, hands tucked in his pockets.
"I guess most of my neighbors are really old people. They turn in early."
"They certainly do! And you thought you'd convince me to let you walk alone… After I promised your boyfriend I'd walk you, too. He'd raise hell, for sure."
I nodded quickly, held in a smile:
"Danilo… He's not my boyfriend."
"Maybe not yet, he's not…" Chris smiled.
For some reason, I felt a sting to my heart to hear him say it so coolly…
"It's not like that. He… He doesn't like me like that." I remembered Michael Campbell's horror when the Principal suggested we were a couple "We're just friends. I'm sure of it."
"Sounds like he told you that already?" Chris investigated casually, making small talk, his eyes always looking at his sides.
I took in a deep breath.
"He didn't. But…"
"Another boy did?" He filled in the silence when I lingered too long.
I pursed my lips together – it was enough of an affirmation for him. 
"Boys!" he threw his hand up. "But try not to take it too seriously… Kids your age… they don't have their screws in right, not yet."
I chuckled. Chris's lips curled up in that contained smile again… the one that cast a long narrow dimple down his cheek, framing the side of his mouth and further highlighting his bony jaw.
Silence was finally allowed to befall us. Silence in which I peeked sideways from the corner of my eyes, wondering if Chris was watching me. We walked a significant distance apart, enough for me to guess… But he didn't: his eyes were astray, looking about us, admiring the evening.
"Well… this is me!" I sighed despondently, halting my walk to a close before my house.
Chris walked slowly, looking up towards the brownstone before stopping in front of me.
"Pretty close, indeed…"
"Yep."
I pursed my lips.
"So… Are you going to walk back to your car or…"
Chris turned his eyes down on me again, and frowned… a playful, cross smile pulling the corners of his mouth.
"Is that the most subtle way you could find to ask me if I have a car?"
"What??! No, I…" I grew truly nervous.
"I don't, for your information. Does that impugn my character?" he teased.
"NO! I mean… I don't even know what that means, I just… It was just my way of asking… My stupid way of asking if you live close by …"
Christ stared at me for a while, before relenting his painful mockery and smiling. 
"I don't. In fact, I don't live here at all, I'm just here on some…" His absorbed eyes traced my house again, then frowned, the thought overtaking him "Tell me, are you alone in here?!"
"Er… Yes.". Dammit, should I have said it? Could I get in trouble at school, if word got out? Probably my parents would have some answering to do… I should ask him to keep a secret… But how childish would that sound?! No… I couldn't sound childish. Not now… Not when he joked and played, and talked to me as if we were in the same level… even as if we were friends…
"Where are your parents?" His frown lingered, the corners of his mouth no longer playful, the depth of his voice showing…
I gulped, realizing just how wrong that situation must seem for him… Kids my age aren't supposed to live alone… Quick! I must think of something quick…
"Well?" He demanded, taking one step towards me.
"Wait, I can explain…" And I'm sure I could, if given much more time than the full minute he dispensed for me to come up with a good enough excuse.
At the end of said minute, he demanded again, seemingly vexed:
"Where are they? And how old are you?" He stared so fixedly at me now, I began to sweat…
"I'm… I'm seventeen."
His tense, frowning eyebrows eased, arched, ever so slightly… then they tensed again, as if wanting to pretend I hadn't just surprised him.
"Oh…" he said after a pause, his eyes automatically measuring me. I knew what was to come… he'd say I looked younger, he'd ask questions… My chances of getting away with a lie so big would grow meager by each stuttered answer, until I gave myself away, and he'd hate me forever for being a liar…
"And your parents?"
"Divorced. Each in their house…" I smiled quickly, hoping that would be the end of my report.
"No siblings?" He raised his eyebrows, as if he felt sympathetic towards me.
"Two. They…They don't live with me either. Long story."
"I see…" he distanced himself from me to cast a glance at the lonely house again, then he looked back at the quiet street. A sigh followed. "So you live by yourself… all alone in this big house right here?" he pointed, incredulous.
"Yes…" I twisted my fingers anxiously… "…but… please don't tell anyone at school. You know kids… They get jealous…" 
And I faked another big smiled when he studied me, confused.
"…jealous?"
"Just… don't. Please." I pleaded. "I'll get in trouble if you do."
He frowned a bit, then… his eyes seemed tense, puzzled, calculating… but he nodded, and I breathed, relieved.
"Okay… I won't."
"Thanks!" I pressed my palms together.
Then his eyes – his frowning, studying eyes – measured me again. This time, they looked down at my converse shoes and stayed there for a while, before making their way up to me… dead-serious, quiet, thinking… he rephrased what he had said last:
"That is – I won't, if you…" and he had taken a step forward, a long one, one that cornered me against the brick bannister. 
But before I could even process his approach, or learn his condition, he threw his eyes up to the house one more time, towards the upper windows – a light had just been clicked to life, I could see it spilled across the street. This startled Chris into silence – when I followed his eyes, I was equally surprised.
When I looked at him again, he cast me a visibly angry glance.
"I'm going back this way. Goodnight!" He said dryly, walking a few steps backwards, before turning and leaving. 
I was too confused, too uncertain about what had just happened to really concentrate on the impression I must have given him: that I was a liar. Truth be told, I had lied, but not about my living conditions… but I guess Karma just didn't care. In any case, I unlocked the door, walked into my house… only to be surprised by Susie torpedo-landing on my stomach.

Annie's fabrications have brought her a fair share of trouble. But when she falls in love with an older man she met at school, she can't help but wrap herself in more lies in hopes of getting his attention. 
What she doesn't know is how deadly this game can be, once played with an adult - with a stranger. It's enough to make her wish she had never crossed his path, but now it's too late: with her lies, she's created the perfect condition, the perfect scene, the perfect victim...

This is a story about innocence, infatuation, obsession, and ultimately, trauma.

"Are you ready Elva?" Kurayami says as he looks at her, his face as cold as his voice, which has a small tings of worry.
   "Ye-yeah....yeah, I'm ready." 'There is two days before I go and I need to help Elva overcome this so she can begin to become a better person in society. Anyone can be redeemed, it just takes effort!' Thinks Kurayami as Elva and him step out the door, it automatically locking behind them. 
   'I still can't believe they got this far without technology.' I think as I follow Elva down the street, becoming even more nervous with every step. I glance to the left of me to see Blossom walking with her head held high, probably because everyone is walking to the other side of the street at the horse sized cat. 
   'Took her less longer than what it said, that's for sure, and I had to get five chickens this time, there is gonna be no money left by the end of my existence.' Winter sees me looking at blossom and gets jealous, squeezing my head violently, although it just feels like a massage.
   "This is the first house." She says as we reach a white, two story house. There is some movement in the windows, but not much. As Elva walks up down the sidewalk, she looks like she is starting to shake slightly. 'What the hell did these guys do to make her act like this?! She is acting like they scarred her!'
  'She is on the steps, now in front of the door, she is about to knock, and she is walking back here! What?!' I stare at her as she stands in front of me, her head down, and she sighs, "I can't do it..."
  My eyes and face are filled with disbelief, "What did they do to make you this scared of them?"
  She looks up with defeated eyes, "It's not that I am afraid of them, but afraid to ruin their expectations, they have always held me in high regards but now I'm telling them I am done."
  I stare at her, now slightly angry, "Seriously? They are inflating your ego, seeing you like an all powerful being, but treating you like a god is not gonna help you grow stronger! It's gonna make you be left behind, here is a question, how old are you?"
  She continues to look at me, and murmurs, "15....." 
   "And why haven't you entered into a school yet?" I reply angrily. Currently, if you walked past, you would think that I'm the older sibling right now, but luckily no one is nearby.
  She looks up, her face looking even more depressed by the minute. "They said I wasn't able to cast fast enough to qualify as a regular mage..." all of a sudden, her face grows angry, "...but I could probably cast faster tha-" I stare daggers at her, prompting her to shut up. She loses herself mid-sentence, and stops talking completely. 
   "Good, now, you need to tell them you are no god, your only a person who is decent at magic. And if you don't do it now, then when? You let them inflate your ego again so we repeat the cycle?" I point at the door.
   "And it's their fault you failed the test, they inflated your ego so much you didn't even practice, you could be in there right now, learning with the best minds of your age! But your stuck here, with those losers at the bottom rank!"
  She looks up at me with a furious look carved into her face. She turns around and she marches up the steps and knocks on the door, I see an elf open the door, smiling while about to greet her before she stops him and begins going on the biggest rant I have ever witnessed. When she is finished, the door is slammed in her face and she walks back down the stairs, breathing heavy breathes, cooled down from her anger. 'She scares me more than anything else on this planet right now. Not even a Karen can compete against that rant, if anyone disagrees, let me speak to their manager.'
  I see Kar-Elva walk up to me, still huffing. "Was that good?" "I definitely will be having dreams about that tonight so yes, you did fantastic." She smiles, "Was I really that scary?" I nod, "In fact, I doubt he will ever bother you again." I say while I stare at the house and memorize the location. 
  Elva laughs and we begin to walk again, 'She seems a lot less nervous now than before, guess I finally got her to face her true problem.' I think while I look at her smiling face. 'And who knew that she could laugh like that?'

After an unknown amount of time, a soul got to reincarnate into a fantasy realm with it’s own choice of abilities and looks. Watch as he goes through life as powerful as can be in this weird world. 

  This is a hobby and not professional work so please bare with me while I try my best to make this book a good one. I would also like to put out here this is my first novel and a learning experience for me, I’m sorry if the tags aren’t right or to disappoint.

"What do you mean she's gone?"  Nix took a deep breath before letting it out slowly.  After making sure that Tai'Qui was doing well, he decided to visit the Temple of Flame to ask Deidra about fire seeds.

Pon watched the interaction between Nix and Deidra, fairly certain that it was going to end with the Inferno Leader activating his Dread Form.  "Before either of us could say anything, Shae cast her flames into the cylinder and disappeared.  It's no one's fault, Nix."  
Nix scowled at the cylinder in question.  Shae hadn't mentioned that she was going to refine her flames, but then it may have been a spur-of-the-moment decision.  He decided to let the matter drop. "Do you need anything from me?"

The Temple of Flame was nearly identical to Tai'Qui's Earth Temple.  The statue of a dragon marked the underground entrance; almost nothing else was visible from the surface.  

Unlike Tai, Deidrea has changed into her natural form.  The dragon stared at Nix for a handful of moments.  "Nothing else, Nix.  Since this is a private seed world, I will forego the customary Acolytes and Temple champion.  I have no use for either of those." 

Nix turned his attention back toward the cylinder.  "Do you plan on refining your flames also?"

"Yes. However, I will wait until Shae returns; besides you, she is the only one I trust to guard my nursery during my absence."  

Unlike Tai's central chamber, this one was made of white marble with gold veins that glittered in the torchlight.  

Deidrea changed forms suddenly; her large dragon body morphed into the coldly pale beauty that Nix was used to.  She walked past Nix and took a seat on what could only be called a throne.  

Nix glanced around the room; although both Dragon Temples were cut from the same mold, the Flame Temple seemed to be a bit more flashy. "Why are there two thrones?" Remembering the Earth Temple, Tai'Qui also had two thrones.

Deidra shrugged as if unsure.  "Did you want something, Nix?  It isn't like you to linger."

"Yes.  I need Fireseeds.  Perhaps as many as fifty, strong enough to function for the next few months."  

Deidre smiled slightly, her pale feature showing amusement.  "I can make those; come back tomorrow."

Nix glanced at Pon, who seemed like he wanted to be anywhere else but there.  "Fine, I'll do that.  Notify me at once if Shae returns."

0400 hours, Haven Ranch

Nestled comfortably between two warm bodies, Nix was sleeping peacefully with no intention of getting up any time soon.  

"Nix..."  Shae's voice whispered from the doorway.  As soon as she opened the Master Bedroom door, both Fajii and Hyai looked up.  

The Inferno Leader mumbled a protest when he was gently nudged from two different directions simultaneously; his eyes blinked open when they repeated the process.  He immediately spotted the ringleader at the door; his sleepy frown faded into a smile.  "Back safe and sound?"

Shae nodded.  "Back safe and sound," she agreed.  "Your Fireseeds are on the kitchen island, ready to go." 

Nix took a few moments to intricate himself from the warm comfort of his companions and sleepily got dressed next to the door.  A tired Shae shamelessly assumed his spot in bed, smiling at him when he exited.  

/Inferno: Nix: Life is unfair...
/Inferno: Darsi: Did you get Fireseeds?

Nix temporarily ignored the question as he opened a small box on the kitchen island.  He recognized the work as one of Sinfaya's temporal boxes.  

/Inferno: Nix: Yep.  Do you have something to house them in?
/Inferno: Darsi: Check this out. 

Thermocule (Pronounced Ther-Mock-U-Lee)
Elemental Container: Fire
Description: Fire seeds placed inside of the 
Thermocule are amplified by fifty percent.  

/Inferno: Nix: I'll meet you at Ravine's House.  
/Inferno: Darsi: See ya there, Trip-7.  

When Nix arrived at Madam's Ravine's House of Pleasure a few minutes later, Darsi was waiting patiently inside.  The Inferno Sniper looked like she'd stayed up all night crafting.  She handed him one of her creations.  

Nix turned the Thermocule over in his hands.  It was made from ceramic, with one end having a baseball-sized sphere and the other ending in a sharp spike.  It was nearly a meter in length and weighed just over a few pounds.  When he touched the sphere, it opened up.  "Fire seed goes in here?"

Darsi nodded.  "Push the stake into the ground and place the seed in the sphere.  When you activate the Thermocule, the sphere will close and start pushing out the heat."  

Nix didn't have to pretend to be impressed.  "You made fifty of these in one night?"

"Yep."  Darsi grabbed the Thermocule from him and stowed it away.  "It will be easier to stake them in the ground if you warm things up first."  

When they exited the House of Pleasure through the back door a few minutes later, Nix instantly morphed into his Phoenix form.  He took to the air and started making loops around the house.  They planned to heat Market street and the area around Madam Ravine's House.  

After Nix's 4th lap, Darsi started staking the Thermocules into the ground.  They had to be placed at least five meters away from anything that might burn.  Although they wouldn't contain an open flame when activated, the glowing device would be unapproachable by anyone who wasn't an advanced fire user.  

/Inferno: Darsi: I've got Ravine's staked out.  Time for those Fireseeds.
/Inferno: Pon: Hey!  Did you guys start without me?
/Inferno: Nix: Yes...

Nix changed back into human form and placed one of the Fireseeds inside the ceramic sphere. When it closed a moment later, he received a message asking if he wanted to activate the Thermocule.  "Yes."  

The device glowed bright red and started radiating heat in all directions; the amount of coverage was fairly impressive.  The frosted windows on the rear of the House of Pleasure immediately started to melt.  

Over the next few minutes, the trio place four more warming devices around the business.  It seemed like a bit of overkill to Nix, but at least the girls wouldn't have to worry about the cold anymore.  

Nix turned the remaining Fireseeds over to Pon before returning to his Phoenix duties. He would heat the Market street while Pon and Darsi placed the remaining devices.  In all likelihood, they would finish before any of the shops started opening.  

Placing the rest of the seeds took less than an hour; most of that was due to the windswept streets being completely frozen.  However, after a half dozen fly-bys, the streets started to soften enough for the stakes to be pushed in.  The street Thermocules were placed in the center of the road and pounded down until it looked like a glowing ball sitting on the ground.  

/Inferno: Pon: All finished with the House of Ravine and Market street.  However, we have two left. 
/Inferno: Nix: Place them around the front gate, near the guardpost.  Those guys have been freezing long enough.

Vic quickly left his home and hurried toward Market street. On most days, the cold morning air was enough to take his breath away; however, today, something had taken the edge off of the brutal cold.  

When he was half a block away, he started to feel the warmth.  Was the Phoenix already making his flights?  The Store Keeper stopped a few meters away from the corner where his business was located.  All of Market street was lit up with orange light.  The boardwalk was already free of Ice, and none of the shop entrances were frozen over.  He sped up his pace and headed toward his store.  Many of the shop owners had brooms out and were sweeping puddled water into the street.  He unbuttoned his heavy coat, smiling widely.  Market street was warm.  

By mid-morning, Nix was sitting across from his dad, Madam Ravine and Vooni,  while sampling the afternoon's first batch of AF soup.  

"What's the plan here, Nicky?  This place is a brothel, after all."  

Nix nodded and slurped loudly, immediately echoed by Vooni, who was clearly trying to make a louder noise them him.  The two grinned at each other and continued their competition.  "I know.  First, let's get people coming back into the doors.  The entertainment part of this business can wait until we are all long gone.  For now, this will be a place to sit and enjoy a drink in relative comfort."  

Rico glanced around the room.  Most of the girls were heading out to serve lunch in the streets.  A few stayed behind on cooking and cleaning detail.  "You really think people will come here?"  

Madam Ravine gestured toward the comfortable couches where four men and two women were already seated.  "That's half the city council."  

Nix considered her words for a moment.  "Sorry... What is your first name?"  

"Maybe it's Madam." Madam Ravine smiled slightly.  "It's Lana... I know, Lana from the City of Lana."

Nix shrugged as if finding nothing wrong with the statement.  "Go talk to those people.  This is your place; make sure they know that.  Inferno is here to build your reputation, not ours."  

Lana looked unsure of herself but stood up anyway. "I guess you are right."

Vooni slurped the rest of her bowl before pushing her chair back.  "I'll back you up.  Just say the word, and I'll toss them into the street."  

[Whisper: Nix to Vooni] Make sure they mind their manners.  It's okay if you have to slap a few of them around.

Vooni smiled at the Inferno Leader and followed Lana toward the group.

Nicholas Phire was sentenced to life in prison without any possibility of parole.  Because of the mercy of a lonely prison guard, a new world is presented to him.  Nix finds himself in the Virtual World of Colonial with a hundred-year assignment as Lifestyle player in the Gladis Hub.  Will Nix stay in the remote village located on the polar Ice Cap?  Or does adventure await for the man whose life was supposed to be over?
