Taken from the 21st century, she must navigate through Middle Earth to find a way back home, but to do so she will have to understand why the Valar have sent her; something even Gandalf does not know. Enter 12 dwarves and a surly dwarf king who is determined to take back his home in Erebor, even if, to get Gandalf's help, he must allow this girl and a hobbit to come with him. The gray wizard could have no way of knowing just how right he was when he said there is more to Sara then meets the eye, more even it would seem than she knew. Sara is familiar with Middle Earth but has never read The Hobbit, so has no idea what is in store for her and this ragtag group of dwarves as they embark on their quest.

If you are looking for a fun new take on this story give this a try. I steal from the book, the live action and cartoon movies and my own imagination. Sometimes we will follow cannon and other times not. Some scenes will be familiar and others completely new. Adventure, romance, humor, friendship, discovery, family, action and so much more. There will be drama but I don't like to drag it out unnecessarily. Please forgive my mistakes, I try hard but sometimes they slip by. Right now I am focused on getting the story written and then I will go back and edit the errors. And yes, that is actually the title of the story.

To most, this world was everything they could've asked for.
A resounding roar rang throughout the bright cavern, the high and solid stones reverberating from the force. In the distance, dull tremors shook the ground and lingered into an ever present thrum. 
Each day was ripe with adventure, peril, and wonder—and life was never dull for the bold. Such was the ancient and tested labyrinth city of Orario—a hodgepodge filled to the brim with all walks and talks of life, both mortal and divine. A bustling city that catered to every want and need, even to a hunger for magic—or otherwise.
"They're coming," said a man clad in plate armor. He was standing with a group of various races also armored and armed with various weapons, and together, they stood shoulder to shoulder. Humans, hobbits, chienthropes, runarls, werewolves, hume bunnies, war tigers, boaz, elves, dwarves as well as a half-spirit of all things, all stood as brothers and sisters in arms. They formed a punitive force of eighty strong, rallied under a banner of a sinister clown.
Their major export consisted of: prime cut magic stones harvested fresh out of the dungeon; exotic raw materials of which adamantite was its chieftest trade; and major badasses from all races of all ages, sizes, and even orientations. While they had the ancient and near chthonic dungeon for tourism—and a major source of livelihood.
"Clash!" shouted a hobbit standing in front of all of them, and waved the banner they banded under in his hands with a sweeping motion. A series of thumps sounded out as the punitive force readied their arms. 
"Prepare!" he shouted again.
The dungeon fed the city, and the adventurers fed the dungeon—but it wasn't always like that. Only after the descent of the gods did things start looking out for mortals as a whole—but even before, people adapted just the same. It just so happened they—I guess, we had a bigger advantage now compared to back then. 
Well, people still die by the dozen anyway.
Separate from the main army, a group of seven stood out—eight, counting the hobbit with the banner. 
A dwarf with an axe as tall as he, at about four feet long and two wide for the blade. An elf with a staff brimming with the richness of the elements, the unmistakable glow a sign of the powers it harnessed. A werewolf with silver hair and just as silver boots. An amazoness with a weapon as impressive as the dwarf's, a too thick double-bladed sword. Another amazoness with a belt of knives and twin short swords. A human girl with a single blade with a striking blue hilt. And, a young man, also human, wielding just a round shield and a sizeable bag.
Magic existed and persisted the whole world over, but there was only one place where crystallized mana could be harvested from—hence, Orario's overwhelming presence. Despite the countless perils, the lure of treasures still brought in adventurers—dungeon raiders. The rewards more than paid for the trouble it took; but, thanks to the mountains upon mountains of idiots who practically offed themselves, the horrible stigma remained: Orario was a death trap anyway.
Fed up with all the bad publicity—not to mention the intense demand for magic—a group eventually emerged to guide the lost sheep from the death trap that was a lack of common sense. The beginnings of the Guild installed themselves atop Orario's then growing town—led by one of the city's founding gods—and published three platitudes from the accounts of their own explorers and those wise enough to make it back up in an effort to stymie the high mortality rate. 
People dying never bode well for business and security after all.
The three rules went: light was always present no matter how deep. 
Hidden by the cliffs, a twisted shadow grew to the same height as the cavern's walls, its berth just as large. The ranks huddled closer together, watching for any unexpected developments. The light was always there, but so too did light deceive like the shadows.
The floors grew larger the lower one went. 
Another roar issued, followed by piercing shrieks. The inhuman sounds echoed through the expansive space—more monsters joining the fray, born from the dungeon's walls and floors and ceilings and hidden corners. 
And, monsters were always waiting just around the corner.
The thrum grew in intensity, and the shadow shuddered with the periodic tremors. Another roar sounded, an arm extended from the massive image, and it swung. A moment later, a boulder came crashing down towards Loki famiglia's front line.
Simple, easy to remember, but not very effective—people still kept dying—but for the sake of what it was intended for, it worked anyway. 
If there was always supposed to be light, then just avoid where there isn't. Always remember that floors got bigger and plan accordingly. And, when in doubt whether there'll be another few monsters waiting for you at the end of the hall and subsequently lead you into a death trap—it's most likely gonna be what'll happen if you don't turn back asap. 
It was how it was. 
The werewolf jumped forwards and met the tumbling rock, smashing it to pieces with his now burning silver boots. Cheers broke out as the warrior landed, though he still put on an annoyed look. "Weaklings," he said, and made his way back within the ranks.
"As always," said the dwarf with the axe, while the elf with the staff sighed. 
"Let it slide," said the youth with the shield. The amazoness with the double-blade nodded to his words, while the human girl's hand went white knuckled at her grip on her weapon.
The dungeon was just that, an insatiable maw—not minding the pot calling the kettle black with the just as prolific greed of modern progress. People come in, raid the dungeon, some people die, they go back up: an endless cycle fueled by a mixture of need, curiosity, and sheer greed for a majority of the commerce type exploration familias.
The same hobbit shrugged, then struck his banner against the ground and gathered everyone's attention. 
"Standard formation," he said, "shield, bow, staff." The entire familia barked in affirmation. "Chant and loose on my mark, cast on my next mark." Another bark. "No one dies today." Cheers broke out once more.
Satisfied with his orders, the hobbit turned to the group standing with him, and said, "Lead the attack, and make sure Balor doesn't reach us,"
"Yes captain," they all answered.
"On my mark!" the hobbit raised the clown banner high, the sounds of stretched bow strings filling the air. Together, ancient murmurs of all tongues accompanied the motion, the scent of magic dispelling the earth's musk.
All who came to the dungeon knew of the price of their dreams—hence the waiver forms prior to registering nowadays—but even the threat of death could not deter the strongest of souls.
The trembling of the earth came louder as a cloud of dust appeared within sight.
"Hold!" the hobbit shouted, while the spells in preparation grew in power.
From the cloud, a horde of monsters—beasts with the bodies of primates and the horns of a goat, the fomoires of the forty-ninth floor—reared their ugly heads.
"Hold!" the hobbit shouted once more, the mass of magic nearing critical. He raised his flag as the air charged with more power, and the bows wound tighter. "Hold," he raised his voice louder. 
This was life in Orario, and by extension, life with the dungeon.
No sooner had a second passed when the fomoires appeared in view when the same beasts crossed the distance of a hundred metres—half the length to the Loki familia. Their roars came sooner, the thrums even stronger.
The hobbit swung the flag down. "Loose!" On release, the air shook as a hundred arrows whistled towards the monsters, all flying straight and true. A beat later, screams rang out with the roars as flesh and muscle were torn from the beasts. 
"Cast!" the hobbit shouted, bringing the flag down a second time, and the Loki familia released roaring wave after wave of light, fire, ice, wind, and all the other elements in between; and those caught in the onslaught were maimed, burned, pierced, frozen and all such, but the horde of monsters stayed their path.
Of all these characters though, there were the greatest aberrations: the lost ones. 
Rather, the lost one, since I was the only one I knew of who came from a different dimension—not counting the gods.
"Shields!" shouted the hobbit, raising his flag, and a line of warriors planted themselves in front of the familia with their shields. "Spears!" Then two rows of spears lined themselves up with the wall.
A deeper resounding roar sounded out, shaking the air.
"He's coming," said a different dwarf, this one holding up a shield as large as he. Behind him was a runarl with a spear, and behind the two men still was a chienthrope girl with a staff. Together they formed a basic unit, one of the many innovations proposed by the familias new executive a year ago. 
"Just like two months ago," the runarl said, and laughed. Then, a gigantic furred arm dispelled the dust cloud from a distance, revealing a titanic fomoire, its single eye a bright red. "Oh, exactly, two months ago."
"Not again," mumbled the deflated magician.
The hobbit turned to the earlier group, the elites of the familia, and said "Go." 
The seven leapt forwards into the fray, weapons out, and charged towards the horde.

The afternoon sun hung low against the guild hall’s roof, its shadow creating a lull in the bustle of the crowd. People of all shapes and races, in clothes of all colors and cuts roamed the forefront of Orario’s highest authority, each to their own beat and tone.

“Could you repeat that?”

“Sir, Mr. Deimne sir!” The hapless youth stood on attention to his non-superior: a hobbit of about two-thirds his height, an absurd sight to those otherwise not in the know.

“At ease”—Finn sighed—“we’re not military.” The hobbit was never one for ceremony and neither were the two in the same familia.

The people around them stared at the sight of a Loki high executive talking to some no-name adventurer. They were attracting too much attention for both Finn’s tastes and the youth’s confidence.

The blond shook his head. “You were saying?”

“We saw an adventurer down in the fifth floor with two goblins tied to his person, sir!” The youth did a salute, and Finn couldn’t help another sigh.

He didn’t need to ask further than that.

My journey to Aarom was smooth-sailing, all things considered.
Sure, I was attacked by a giant eagle and a pack of mountain wolves, but they were nothing that I couldn't handle. They barely caused a delay in my journey.
I arrived at the city faster than expected, as the sun was still up on the sky when I did.
When I entered the large gates, I was greeted with a crowd, enough to give the impression that it was a busy city indeed. Not as busy as it could've been perhaps, seeing how it was already almost night, but there were still people walking to and fro, with carriages and stagecoaches passing through occasionally. Naturally, I walked on the side of the large road, to avoid getting run over by them.
Those people carrying around axes and swords… they must be adventurers…
The group currently walking in front of me drew my attention, as they dressed differently compared to the merchants and ordinary travelers. There were four of them—one man wearing what looked to be leather armor, with a sword sheathed and secured on his belt, and three women, each wearing the stereotypical clothing associated with their vocations. One was a warrior, with a large axe slung to her back. She wore a series of skimpy armor that exposed a lot of her skin with a mini skirt that barely covered her rump. The cleric wore a long white robe, while the mage—obvious from her pointy hat and the staff that she carried—wore a mage's robe with a long yet high-slitted skirt.
Two front-line fighters, one healer and one mage. I say it's a pretty balanced party.
I looked around and saw there were other folks walking around wearing similar outfits. However, the mage's long ears were unique as she seemed to be the only elf around.
Elves. She was already used to their presence from her times at the academy. Though there were certainly not that many of them compared to human students, there would always be one or two in every class. And just like the common myth said, they were all good-looking, with unblemished skin and slim bodies. Back at the academy, every elven student seemed to have at least one or two admirers going after them.
I followed them for a while, thinking that they might be heading to the Adventurer's Guild building that existed in the city. I had overheard them talking about how they wanted to hand over a quest there. I thought I would go there and take her own quest before resting at an inn for the night.
"You filthy Hobbit!"
Huh?
A loud, crass yell broke her out of her reverie. It came from across the street, where there seemed to be a crowd forming.
I glanced back at the group of adventurers. Well, whatever. I could just ask around for directions later.
Crossing the road, making sure to look both ways beforehand, I walked over to the scene.
"You think you can trick me, you little shit? Just because you look like a little girl doesn't mean I'm going to just let you go! I know how your kind works, deceiving people with your looks!"
I waded through the crowd, and saw a little Hobbit girl sitting on the ground, while a clearly angry man stood in front of her. The Hobbit was teary-eyed, and she seemed to be apologizing profusely about something.
"I-I don't know, Sir! I swear! I-I'm not trying to sell you fake jewelry! I-I don't even know they were fake in the first place!" She pleaded.
The girl was dressed in a green knee-length skirt with a white long-sleeved shirt under a yellow shirt. She had auburn hair and blue eyes.
Hobbits. There were also a number of them in the academy. Even rarer than the elves, they seemed to always avoid the spotlight, shrinking into the background where no one would notice them. Well, except for that one Hobbit… Ah, I had forgotten to tell Hugo about him completely… Or to be exact, I had forgotten about him until now…
And, just like the man demonstrated, they had a certain prejudice associated with them. Like how elves were supposed to be arrogant, Hobbits were supposed to be untrustworthy tricksters and thieves, using their youthful appearance to deceive others 
"You little brat!" To my horror, and the crowd as well, judging by the gasps, he slapped her right on her face, hard enough that blood gushed out of her nose. "I was about to hand you over the guards, but I think I got a better idea! I'll give you to those slavers so you could spend the rest of your life as a slave!" He now held her up with her hair, making her scream in pain as tears and blood ran down her face.
"Enough!"
Without hesitation, I blasted the man's hand with a wind spell, making him drop her to the ground. Then, I ran over and stood in front of her, giving the man the most angry look I could muster. It was quite the easy feat, seeing how I was already absolutely furious towards him
"What? Who is this? Another little brat coming to the rescue?"
"I'll ask you to stop, Sir. She is clearly already sorry for her actions."
"Hmph, you don't seem to be a Hobbit. You're just a human girl." His eyes looked at me all over. "Hmm? Wait, that wand… and that wind blasting my hand… you're an adventurer, aren't you?"
"Yes, Sir." I replied. "And I had to ask once again to let this Hobbit girl go."
"How old are you? Twelve? Don't you have school to attend instead?"
"Yes, Sir, but I'm currently in my—"
"Hah! Of course you don't! Your parents can't afford it! And that's why they let you become an adventurer in the first place!"
To my disgust, he started to laugh at his own joke—his belly bouncing in the process.
"Hey, what's going on here?"
Our confrontation was interrupted by the arrival of a squadron of guards, who immediately shooed the bystanders away. Each of them were clad in their armor, and their leader, a middle-aged man who looked terribly bored by his job, took the lead.
"Oh good Sir! Please! This Hobbit, Sir! She tried to scam me by selling me fake jewels! And not just one or two, but a whole box of them!"
Just like that, his personality completely transformed. Now he was a perfectly good and honest citizen, not someone who would slap a child so hard that she bled out of her nose (well, she might not be but judging from her reaction, she acted just like one). 
"And this human girl, right here! She's her accomplice! While I was distracted with her Hobbit friend, she tried to steal from my shop! I was fortunate enough that I noticed her and stopped her before it's too late."
...Wait, what?
The guard sighed. "Alright, you two. Come with me to the station."
"Wait, no, please! I was the only one in the wrong! She hasn't done anything wrong!" The Hobbit pleaded, tugging his arm with her hands.
"I'll hear your words there, okay? Not here. Street's too busy to really listen to anything you're saying."
That wasn't true however. After the crowd dispersed, it had gotten quiet enough that we could nicely hear each other just fine.
But judging from his disinterested face, he clearly wasn't interested in that.
"It's alright," I bravely told the Hobbit. "We'll go." I then told the guard. At this position, the best thing to do would be to keep calm and explain our case nicely to him, or whoever would end up interrogating us. Then, we would surely be released in no time at all. Well, the Hobbit might get a fine or something though. Ultimately, she had a part of the blame for the incident, as much as it displeased me to think so. If she had sold the jewels to an inexperienced trader or customer instead, they would still end up with fake jewels, even if she didn't know that they were fake.
Hehe, if Sherry's here, she'll probably have beaten up the man to a pulp. Just a single punch from her to his face would send him flying with all his teeth knocked off.
Hugo though, he probably would have run with the Hobbit instead of confronting the man (he's pretty fast on his feet after all), which was what I should've done in the first place. Sometimes I felt he had a clearer head than even me, who's five years older than he was.
I just couldn't help myself. Such an act of cruelty… how can someone do that to another person? Even if she really was a con artist who tried to scam him on purpose, he had no right to do that to her, especially after she had apologized like that.
Not to mention the fact that he just lied so that I would get arrested as well. Now that was the definite proof 
As we left with the guard, I gave another glare towards the man. "Benedict's Beautiful Jewelries" was written on the nameplate above him. Ah, so that's his name. Only from a distance that I noticed how big his store was. So he must be pretty well-off. No wonder he insulted me by saying that my parents were poor. Merinda used to say that too. She would brag about having a large mansion employing many servants, while saying how I was just a country bumpkin from nowhere. So I was already used to it, in a way.
"I-I'm so sorry! B-because of me, you��"
"Shh, I don't want to hear that. I did it because I wanted to. That's all." I gave her a smile. "Oh, and let me heal that wound of yours."
I pointed my wand to her nose. "Oh blessed light! Heal my wounds!" It was just a simple beginner-level healing spell. Minor Heal was its name, I believed. For any actual combat wounds, it wouldn't be enough, but to fix a bloodied nose, it worked like a charm.
"O-oh! It feels better already! Thank you!" She smiled.
"Stupid brats… they don't know who they're messing with," the guard leader mumbled under his breath. He was clearly not happy by the relatively calm way she and I were taking the situation.
"Who are we messing with exactly?" I couldn't resist asking.
"Oh, nothing important. Just one of the richest and most influential merchants in town, that's all."
My heart sank. Did I just bite into something that I wouldn't be able to chew?

Goddamnit, Marina. You just arrived and you already got yourself arrested? And it has to be Newt Benedict too that you pissed off.
I thought you would be fine after you took care of those monsters on your own without breaking a sweat. But here we are now, with you getting arrested, just because you wanted to play hero with a Hobbit girl you don't even know about.
Well, that's just what I would expect from a child of mine. I'm proud of you, my daughter. But still, couldn't you have handled it a bit better, somehow?
Knowing Benedict, that bastard would definitely try to get you jailed for real. And with his influence, he certainly can.
Argh, I have to pull some favors with Eriol then. God, I hate meeting that guy.

I can't believe it. They're actually keeping us for real.
No matter how many times I tried to correct the story, they still kept with the official version that the shop owner told them, that the hobbit was genuinely trying to trick him with her fake jewels and with myself being her thief accomplice.
As a result, I was now kept inside a holding cell, with them telling me and her that we should wait until they finished their investigation.
I had a feeling that they wouldn't actually be doing that though.
The cell was damp and dirty, with only a single bed inside and a hole on the floor that we could do our business with. It was easily the most unpleasant place that I ever had the unfortunate fate of being kept in.
And yet, I was still fortunate that I was kept on the cell in the station, and not in the dungeon below the castle. I still had a window—albeit a tiny, barred one up, that kept the circulation of the air going. Or else it would smell even worse than it already was.
Of course, I could just break out if I wanted. They took my wand, yes, but I didn't need it to escape from such a lightly guarded place. But that would truly make me and her be an actual criminal, wouldn't it? So I decided to be patient, at least for now. I had requested that I would be allowed to send a letter back home, so I could ask for Father to help. He worked under the Baron, right? Maybe he could persuade him to set me free.
Urgh, I hate having to do that though. This was supposed to be me proving that I could become an adventurer on my own. But now I'm in this mess that I can't get out with my own strength. How humiliating.
When I was in Mira, I got Alincia who acted as my guide, telling me where I should go and where I should not go. And there were certainly no evil shop owners around that I had to stand against. Or at least, I was fortunate enough not to meet any.
"S-sorry... Again, because of me…" the hobbit spoke.
I was now sitting on the bed with her beside me, looking all sad once again.
"I told you not to apologize, didn't I?" I gently grabbed her hand, giving her a reassuring smile. "Don't worry. I'll get this sorted out soon enough."
"Uwaaaaaa!" Without warning, she hugged me, before sobbing right into my stomach. "I knew there was something fishy about that dwarf! Those jewels shouldn't have been that cheap!"
And then, she told me who she was and why she decided to start on her journey.
Her name was Sophie Bramblewood, and she had departed from her homeland Hobbiton two months ago, starting her journey as a traveling merchant.
Hobbiton. The land of the Hobbits. Located to the southeast of Marchen, it was always considered to be somewhat of an unimportant, even irrelevant land. Technically, it was a vassal of Marchen, but it was usually left alone by the kingdom's higher-ups, seeing how they had better things to worry about like the other kingdoms to the west. As long as they paid their usual tributes, mostly in the form of wheat, potatoes, and fish, they had basically what amounted to full independence.
"I… I thought I could be like grandpa. He's a brave merchant and an adventurer as well. When he returned back home, he brought so many riches our family immediately became one of the wealthiest in the land. But I… I'm just a failure… I should just go home and get married like my father and mother wanted…"
So she's already at a marriageable age… How old is she really? Well, I suppose it would be rude to ask…
And one of the wealthiest in the land… The Bramblewood clan… Hobbits have clans, right, if I remember my books correctly… 
Hmm… I don't recall anything ever written about them… If it's her grandfather who lifted her clan to fame and fortune, then there should be enough time for the information to be entered in history books...
Then again, not a lot of books seem to write about them in the first place… They're basically an irrelevant race. They never have great empires or strong warriors or mages… They're just kinda there, I suppose...
I gently pat her back, wanting to comfort the poor girl. She might actually be older than me, but it didn't matter. I couldn't just leave her be. Not like this.
"Being tricked once doesn't make you a failure, you know." I told her. "Or twice. Or thrice. Or even the fourth time."
Sniffling, she looked up to me. "I-if I get tricked for the fifth time?"
I smiled. "The only thing that makes you a failure is if you give up. At least, that's what I believe."
"...You know, I have a little brother back home. And just recently, he had been training his swordplay and magic, just to beat his older sister, who's far stronger than him. And it took him several tries and an entire year of diligent training to do that. He never gave up, not even once."
"That's amazing!" She brightened, her eyes sparkling. All of a sudden, she sat up, wiping her tears away. "I would never be able to do what he did! Training to fight like that… urgh, not for me at all…"
"You have a dagger with you though," I pointed out. Just like my wand, it had been confiscated by the guards.
"That's just for self-defense! I'm not intending to go around slaying monsters like normal adventurers!" She fumed. "Us Hobbits don't enjoy doing stuff like that you know!"
Thinking about it, she might be right. I don't believe that there had even been any period in history where their race started a war with another. They never had any military either. If an invader ever manifested, the best they could muster were militias and any mercenaries and adventurers they could hire.
That made them a weak nation, unfortunately. Throughout history, they always had to become a vassal to another, stronger state, even migrating far, far away if need be. Such was the nature of this world where the strong ruled.
"Oh, that's right! I never asked for your name! Oh how impolite of me!"
"Marina. Marina Greenwood. Pleased to meet you, Sophie."

"Argh, how did my life end up like this?!"

There was once a boy who's well-loved and popular with his peers. His smile could melt an adult's heart and his easygoing and sweet nature attracted a lot of girls who became his admirers.

Little did he know that such a blessed life wouldn't last forever.

Now, he is an ugly, overweight adult, working a job he doesn't like, and leading a life he doesn't want. No women want to be near him, let alone be his girlfriend, or even his wife. He is an oversized gear in a machine that doesn't even welcome him.

When he gets fired from his job, it is the last straw from him. He remembers his life as a kid, and now good and beautiful it was.

"I don't want this. I don't want this anymore!"

"I would be better off dead than having to live like this for a second longer!"

Suicidal, he passes by a flooding river, as there is a storm that day. He immediately thinks of throwing himself there, ending it once and for all.

And he does. But not because he actually has the balls to kill himself via drowning, but because he sees a little girl being carried down the river by the strong current.

In a split second, he decides that it would be better if she lives, even if he has to die in the process.

And he does. He saves her, throwing her into the side of the river. But then his legs, rarely ever used, suddenly cramp. He can do nothing as he is swallowed by the waves.

"Aah, it would be nice if I could be reincarnated into a fantasy world, like in those stories... I can do it all over, and do it better this time around..."

His wish is granted. When he wakes up, he's no longer his old, adult self. He's a baby, living in an entirely new world.

This is his story.

This story would have both happiness and hardships, heartwarming and sad moments, as well as romance that doesn't just end in a kiss. This is a harem story that will end up in a genuine polygamous relationship. It's also an adventure story, though it would stay as a slice-of-life for a good while as MC grows up.

    I was gathering berries when Teoryn alerted to a sound. Her ears dropped and she moved into a crouch, blocking the path from me to whatever she heard. I dropped the berries and jumped onto her back, beginning our journey again in haste. We tried to keep our breaks for a minimum, only stopping to get food or water. Whatever or whoever followed us stayed close behind, but I didn't know why. I held on to the fur on the back of her neck and with my legs around her sides as I glanced back. I could see a figure on a horse standing in the trees as we broke free of the tree line. We continued on until nightfall when we stopped for the night. I climbed up into a tree and Teoryn laid under a bush's cover. I pulled my cloak hood over my head to hide my pure white hair in the darkness. A few hours into the night, I heard hoof beats slowly walking towards the tree I was in. I waited for them to pass under me. I could see that the person wore all gray and they were tall. Slowly, I moved into a crouch. I couldn't see Teoryn so I acted on instinct. When the time came, I leapt out of the tree towards the person on the horse. Before I knew it, I was being thrown to the ground with a flash of light. I gasped, looking up at the person. He dismounted and looked down at me with a look of disappointment. I heard Teoryn's grown behind me, so I put out my hand to tell her to not attack.
  "Rae and her trusty friend." The man spoke in a deep voice as he created light from his staff. He was older with a long gray beard and gray eyes. "I have been following you for almost four days. You are a hard one to track down."
  "Who are you?" I stood, afraid to move too fast.
  "You don't remember me?" He smiled slightly, but he seemed slightly offended. "I used to visit you and your parents when you were young." I studied him, unsure what to say. I felt like somewhere inside of me, he would never hurt me on purpose.
  "I am Vikore the Grey." He nodded. "And I need your help."
  "How can we trust you?" I questioned as Teoryn sniffed then rubbed her head against him.
  "You may not remember me, but I can tell that you know your can trust me." He replied. I nodded, hesitantly. "Good. I need you to return to the Shire with me. A dear friend is in danger and needs our help." I turned to Teoryn and pulled myself up.
  "Alright. We will go with you." I watched him mount his horse.
  "The Great Eye's army is growing. He is returning so we must make haste." He told me. His horse gave a hearty neigh before starting a full gallop. We followed close behind in the darkness.

       By nightfall the next night, we were in the Shire. Vikore lead me through a window where I watched from the darkness of the Hobbit hole. I figured that the Hobbit that lived here didn't know about our arrival due to the fact that they weren't here and that we lurked in the darkness. From a hallway, I could see the round door open and someone with a head full of dark curly hair enter. For once, I was taller than someone. He paused in the doorway, studying the open window then the hall that I stood in. After a long moment, Vikore grabbed the small man.
   "Is it safe?" Vikore whispered. The man looked as if his heart would fail in that moment of surprise. He quickly lit a few candles to create some kind of light before going into a chest to grab an envelope. Feeling the power from inside the envelope, I crept closer. When the Hobbit turned, he yelped. I gazed at him almost horrified.
   "You hold an item of immense power. It should not exist." I spoke in a serious tone. Vikore looked to me before taking the envelope and casting it into a newly set fire. 
   "What are you doing?!" The hobbit panicked. The envelope burned, revealing a golden band. I could hear the whispers that came from it and backed away. Vikore pulled it from the fire and placed it into the hobbit's hand.
   "Do you see anything?" The wizard questioned him. The hobbit shook his head then paused.
   "There are markings. It's in some form of elvish and I can't read it." He looked to me. I closed my eyes, knowing what the ring said.
   "One ring to rule them all, one ring to find them. One ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them." I sighed, opening my eyes. Vikore seemed like he heard the worst kind of news. "Sauron is returning. The ring must be destroyed! Sauron can only survive if the ring still exists, Vikore."
   "Yes. Terrible things will ensue if the ring still exists." Vikore grumbled. The hobbit looked to me with horror.
   "Take it! Take the ring!" He pressed his hand to me.
   "I can't. It's chosen you to be the one who brings it to it's master." I backed away. "I cannot take it from you."
   "It cannot stay in the Shire!" 
   "No, it can't." Vikore faced us. "It has to be taken to Mount Doom in Mordor."
   "Please take it, Miss."
   "I ca-!" The ring erupted in a wall of fire and screams that sounded demonic. The hobbit cried out, dropping the golden band. It shot across the room, hitting me in the chest. I hit a wall from the force, feeling searing heat in the center of my chest. The fire and screams disappeared and I was left clawing at the leather that was once my clothing. It burned a hole into it, burning my skin before cooling. I pulled the ring from my chest, holding it in both hands as I sat on my knees, breathing heavily.
   "Rae." Vikore came to me. I gazed up at him.
   "What...just happened?" I barely spoke. 
   "The ring has chosen you." He kept his voice low. "It is now your responsibility." Tears filled my eyes.
   "I will destroy it." I promised.

Rae is nothing of the ordinary. The child of an Elf and a Dwarf has caused her to become an outcast in the world. Even she doesn't accept herself, but maybe that will change when she joins a group with an important mission.
