"Some of those won't come up in the exams. After you make a copy of my notes, you can revise them.
"If you have something you don't know, you're welcomed to ask me."

Fang Ping thanked him again. It was rare for Wu Zhihao to say something like this during this crucial moment. 
Some high-performing students kept everything to themselves when examinations were near. It would be better for them if they were the only ones who knew everything.
This was also because the martial science examinations were not limited to one class, of course.

Fang Ping did not know much about this long-time classmate of his, actually. They did not interact much, even in his past life. 
He thought about it again and realized Wu Zhihao's circumstances were quite normal.
Even though Wu Zhihao lived in decent conditions, they were limited, else he would be in an elite class. If one did not qualify, they could just throw some money in to buy their way into the elite classes in high school.
Of course, there were also people who wanted to excel in a normal class instead of being mediocre in an elite class, thus choosing to study in a normal class deliberately. Those were the exception.
This area was of a higher-class, so the management was more responsible. Unlike Fang Ping's area, where anyone could enter, the tenants here had to swipe an access card to enter. 
The two of them entered the area. While they were walking, Wu Zhihao said, "The day after tomorrow, Senior Wang is going to come to our school. I don't know if we can get the chance to speak with him personally.
"The school has finally done something decent. Senior Wang is the idol of all normal class students.

The woman did not say anything when she saw his son bring a classmate home. She exchanged some pleasantries with him before Wu Zhihao led Fang Ping upstairs.
He quickly retrieved his notes and handed them to Fang Ping and led him out of the study into a room next to it.
"This is the gym. The Vitality Measuring Machine is here."
Wu Zhihao opened the door to the gym. The room was simple, and there were not too many appliances. 
Dumbbells, barbells, a treadmill, and a leg-raising machine were in the room. There was one other machine that Fang Ping had not seen before, even in the gymnasiums from his past life. 
It looked similar to a massage chair, but there was a screen connected to it. If he was not wrong, it would be the Vitality Measuring Machine.
He had great intuition. Wu Zhihao led Fang Ping to the side of the "massage chair" and announced cheerfully, "This is the Vitality Measuring Machine, but the one here in my house is a cheap version that cannot compare with the one in the hospital. That one is more like a space capsule, and it conducts a thorough check.
"Ones like this can only check for an approximate value.
"Lie down on it, and I'll connect the sensor for you. You must exert some energy later…"

After he was set, Wu Zhihao picked up several stethoscope-esque "sensors" from around the machine and placed them on Fang Ping's arms, legs, above his heart, and on his forehead. 
"During the physical assessment, they won't stick sensors on you, unlike this time. You'll enter a Vitality Capsule instead, in which you can move freely.
"The capsule can obtain authentic results through a series of calculations. Only then can your true Vitality point be calculated."
Wu Zhihao then turned the screen beside the chair on and said hastily, "You can start now. Remember, strenuous activity includes your mental state. If you really can't think of anything, conjure up scenes from your favorite porn…"
Fang Ping was shocked as he was getting ready for exertion. This guy was not as well-behaved as he thought, so it seemed.
Ignoring the guy, Fang Ping inhaled lightly before he stepped on the pedals with effort repeatedly and pulled his arms to both sides with all his might.
Wu Zhihao stared at the screen beside him with his curiosity piqued...

Fang Ping finally settled an issue after wasting half an hour of his life. He wasn't dreaming nor acting —for God's sake, if acting in a movie could restore his youth, then the film crew deserved a trip to heaven immediately!

Unfortunately, Afeus had little to no knowledge about the said tournament. So instead he guided Kretos to the library and found the related books regarding the tournament.
The tournament used to be something else entirely a few centuries back. It began when the school was still, a single mage tower. There was only one person at that time that could teach higher level spells and it was the Grand Mage. 
Knowing this and wanting only the finest disciple, the Grand Mage at the time held a tournament to receive the finest disciple. Only the most talented and strongest people could become the Grand Mage's disciple, so he told the people that he would host a tournament, in which the winner will become his disciple. As for the losers depending on their performance, he would grant artifacts. 
After the first Grand Mage of the kingdom did it, the next Grand Mage his successor did the same thing. The following Grand Mages followed with the same tradition. But as the mage tower grew in size, it was no longer a single mage's tower, instead, it turned into a school. 
This happened because of those who failed to become the Grand Mage's disciples. Those that lost the tournament stayed near the mage's tower hoping that the Grand Mage would change his mind and pick another disciple.
As the losers grew, they started to teach the newcomers about magic. Every now and then they would witness a spell from the mage's towers and gain enlightenment. This trend continued for hundreds of years, until the single mage's tower, turned into a few dozen. The surrounding area then turned into a fortress of a school. 
Nowadays the tournament is held every time the current Grand Mage felt like it. It wasn't every three years like Mia and Afeus said. It just turns out that the current Grand Mage likes hosting the tournament every three years. This was for the new students to get a chance to be given a private lesson from the current Grand Mage. The losers that showed promise the same as before were given mystical artifacts. 
So the reason the tournament wasn't happening in a few weeks, is because the Grand Mage hasn't decided on the exact time for the tournament to be held. Though he did announce that he would be holding the tournament before winter. 
This was information Kretos was able to gain from a wad of paper that the students received informing them about what was happening. It would seem that neither Afeus or Mia were able to read this paper, because they were heavily focused on their research at that time. Kretos continued to read the wad of paper. After a bit of reading, he finally knew what was happening. 
So knowing how eccentric he was the other high-level mages were the ones who started preparing for the tournament. They made an announcement to all the kingdoms that were friendly with them. As per usual, the rules remained the same only students under the age of twenty-two may join the tournament. 
Many of the students of the other kingdoms all wanted the chance to be thought by the Grand Mage even though it was just a single lesson, it was all worth it. Besides that, even if they lose as long as they show their stuff, they can gain artifacts. So even though the date for the start of the tournament wasn't finalized, some of the representatives of the other kingdoms decided to immediately head to the Serbek Kingdom. 
On the other hand, the students of the mages school, Rulwarry, Institute Of The Arcane. They weren't that thrilled about the prospect of the tournament. For the last few decades, the students of the institute and the nearby schools, have failed to win the tournament. They weren't even good enough to receive the artifacts. 
The reason for this was because the students were more focused on research and tearing the mask of the world to reveal its secrets. They had zero combat training and only knew how to cast big spells that take a lot of time to manifest. 
After reading the wad of paper, Kretos was surprised. Whoever wrote this was writing in a way that could piss off the other students. Kretos looked around and saw that though there were a lot of copies of this wad of paper, no one was reading it.
Everyone was too focused on what they were currently reading, and what the students in the library were reading were thick books that could take a few days to finish. 
'These students do seem like all they care about is research... Then what's with that noisy guy that was messing around with Afeus?' Kretos then remembered Evior and his group. Those guys didn't seem like the same type as the other students. In fact, they didn't even feel like mages, but hooligans instead. 
'Well, whatever, now that I know more about the tournament, I wonder what else I could do? Seeing as the students of this school are no threat to me. How about I gain more information about the other schools from the different kingdoms that will be joining the tournament. If I join this thing, then I'm going to win it all.' 
Kretos then felt a weird sort of excitement that made his heart beat faster, his blood boiling with anticipation. He couldn't help but smile a very vicious smile, as he thought about the battles he would have. He couldn't understand why, but just thinking about the prospect of fighting strong foes, made his body tremble in exhilaration.

About two hours prior to the school's ceremony, a freshman gazed up at the complex with a gaze consisting of enigmatic components. In front of the auditorium where the ceremony would soon take place, the young man said nothing.

His uniform was at first glance quite fashionable for a school. In fact, it could be said that the design was intricate.
On the contrary, this was far from the case. 

It was not a matter of design in terms of gender-corresponding apparel compared to the small group of girls in the distance, who were walking in the direction of the auditorium, but the details that were missing on his attire. 

It would only make sense to have the school's emblem imbedded in the uniform of the students. Yet, the image of a black widow was not present in the freshman's empty space on his blazer. 

A conversation played back in his head. It wasn't as if the exchange of words affected his mindset, but it was definitely connected to his current situation.

"You can't be serious, Vyrin! There's no way you-!"
"Look, I'm surprised I made it into the institution at all... I'm also surprised how you managed to figure out my situation but I won't even begin to ask about that."

The words flowing through his head were the words of a yelling female and himself, who seemed to be attempting to calming the former down. Judging from the attitude, it was safe to assume that the female had a strong relation with the young man, although pushing it as far as "girlfriend" or "lover" was pretty excessive.

"Vyrin, your knowledge about Filo is as deep as a fucking textbook... How in the *world* did you land in Class E?! Here you landed in the prime spot so how-?"
"It's an academy focused on Puppeteering skills," the freshman's voice pointed out in his own thoughts. "Variant Filo Puppeteers aren't a decisive component in such a space."
"... But the gap between you and the others in every aspect I can think of is immense! If we're taking Puppeteering into account then even so-!"

His thoughts dispersed. 
The thought of attending a "school" was a misleading use of terminology. It was such a casual word that even the freshman standing before the institution mistakingly used the carefree word "school" to describe his new educational center. 

The female in his head obviously cared deeply for the young man, however the latter seemed to lack the capability to care. On the other hand, in a contradicting fashion, the way he spoke was that of a person who was aware of the other's feelings and wished to acknowledge them.
His appearance was indeed striking, however his presence implied that he was nothing more than an average young man with no "exceptional" qualities.

Excluding his erect posture and sharp, slicing eyes, he wasn't exactly the most flashy and attractive male.

Besides, there was only one reason why the freshman was losing himself in his thoughts.

'What should I do until the ceremony?' he thought as he heaved a sigh.

If there was one thing that the freshman could declare that he had full confidence in stating, it was perception. Or, more specifically, his analytical nature. 

In moments he was able to dissect the complex of the academy: the main building, the practice building, and the experiment building. 
Just by the locations, shapes, and sizes of the constructs, the young man was able to memorize almost the entire layout of the academy before even entering, although the email he received did label some features of the buildings.

»An auditorium|gymnasium whose internal arrangements can be altered with transformation machinery; a reading center with four levels above ground and three levels below; two small gymnasiums; a composition building containing a changing room, shower room, an equipment-storage room, and club rooms; the mess hall, the cafeteria, and the attainment department were in another construct; for the icing on the cake, numerous large, and small, annexes placed made the academy appear to be more of a megaversity than a mere "academy".«

It should be noted that the only reason as to why the academy wasn't made into a megaversity in the first place was simply because it was big enough as it was for the current Puppeteer population.

Due to the ID cards being handed out following the ceremony, it wasn't like the wandering freshman could access any other portions of the complex. In other words, he had to search for something to kill time, namely sit down and relax.

Visitors couldn't go to the open café today in an effort to evade a chaotic scene.

The bricks under his shoes stood firm under his weight and the sun bathed the world around him in light. 

Proceeding to walk around for a couple minutes, using the portable console for navigation in order to fully memorize the complex before trusting himself, the young man spotted a series of benches resting in the shade of an overhang which was partially covered in leaves, surrounded by trees. The way it was set up, it was almost impossible to miss it, yet no individuals seemed to be sitting there.

'Perfect weather... Hopefully it keeps up,' the young man faintly thought. After sitting on one of the four-men benches, he opened up the weather portal and scrolled through the various passages.

'So this is part of a courtyard... which seems to be a shortcut from the composition building to the auditorium,' he couldn't help but point out.

"Whoa, it's a Class E student," a whisper sounded from a passing student's back. Unfortunately, more ill-will followed.

"Yeah... Wonder why a Vestigial is already here."
"Dunno. I mean, he's nothing but a leftover."

Unwanted words trickled into the young man's ears.

"Vestigials" were the referred students in the academy that scored in Class C-3 or lower. The term "vestigial" was referred to as an unimportant component in one's body due to evolution. Eventually, the word converted to describe a useless, unimportant individual in the academies.

Class E students were given even less respect. Not only that, but Class E students didn't even have the designated space for the emblem to go on, as well as a lack of design in the back of their collar, so picking them out was a piece of cake. 

"Vitals" were the referred students in the academy that scored higher than Class C-3, all the way up to Class S-1. As expected, the term for "vitals" didn't change, still describing an important component in pretty much anything. 

It was clear how big the gap of respect was between the two collective bodies of people.

The set standard for freshmen at the academy was 300; quite a low number even compared to the average high schools in the country. 

Half of them were students in Class C-3 and below. If another student were to transfer and have the capability of Class C-2, however were near the bottom of the scorers above Class C-3, then they were turned away and given a spot for next year. 

This explained why the young man was 16 years old, yet was a freshman in the fine institution.

Because of the academy's status as a Domestic Megaversity of Puppeteering-affiliated institution, the exchange of granted budget from the country and the definitiveness of results from the academy was an obligation. 

The sole purpose for the academy to be established under national policy was for nurturing Puppeteers. No less.

Every year, more than 140 students graduate and go on to either the Domestic Megaversity of Puppeteering, or enroll in Puppeteering Application Establishment of Specialized Elite Training. 

Becoming a Puppeteer was not a simple order. If one were to have a single unfortunate accident, a conclusion ending with something exponentially beyond a "minor issue" could occur. It was needless to say that this involved the Puppeteer's own life.
By sacrificing everything and pouring one's life into their training; this was what it meant to become a Puppeteer. 

The very psychological structure of a Puppeteer could be permanently impaired by these accidents. Through intensive learning and basic trainings, these fatal, severe mistakes have been mostly neutralized. 

That didn't mean that accidents involving Puppeteering and making the Puppeteer drop out due to circumstances was small, either. 

Albeit considered "useless", the Classes C-3 and below were made to fill them in. 
After all, all the country needed were results. If by enhancing low-class students even just enough, the requisite would be considered cleared.

These classes could use all of the same facilities as the upper classes could; all of the buildings, technologies, and equipment was entirely free for the lower classes to use.

The catch?

The lower classes, "Vestigials", did not receive any personal instruction in practical Puppeteering skills. 
One must show results through their own works.
Even if this was the case, if they could not graduate from a Puppeteering academy, then advancing to the Domestic Megaversity of Puppeteering was an impossibility, and they would have to graduate from a normal high school.

Of course, this was expected by the lower class students. If given the privilege to even become a vestigial asset in a Puppeteering academy, they were informed that personal teachings were not to be given, and under that condition, must graduate the academy in order to pursue the way of Puppeteering. 
The quantity of Puppeteering instructors was inadequate, so it was only expected for the higher classes to receive the aid of experienced Puppeteers.

Still, despite all this, it was forbidden to refer to the lower class students as "Vestigials" and the higher class students as "Vitals".

Contradicting the point of forbidding it in the first place, the terms were etched into the students' heads, especially the lower class students. 
Nobody knew who was discriminated the most except for the discriminated themselves.
The lower classes knew this. 

This included the freshman currently looking at the weather on his portable console.

'You make it sound like I didn't already know that,' he thought indifferently, reading the predicted future weather conditions on his console.

In the futuristic setting of 2709, the young man with the unique name of ‘Vyrin’ has just began to attend one of the two most prestigious institutions in the United States: the Partnered Puppeteering Academy of the Eastern Gate.

Times have changed: the United States was compacted into two Gates: the Western and the Eastern, with urbanization taking over even the previously barren lands of the mountains in the far west. The discovery of fiction material becoming a realization has been made and the increasing production of supernatural events rose. 

In this day and age, it was almost impossible to live an ordinary life. Unfortunately, Vyrin would soon learn this first-hand.
