MY FOURTH GRADE TEACHER had been a fan of Greek mythology and he'd told us many of their stories. 
"I think so," I said, trying to mentally calculate how long this conversation needed to be to convince Dad we'd had our little heart-to-heart conversation. "It has something to do with curiosity, right?"
"You're correct, Tru. It starts out as an origin story, explaining how humans came to this earth."
I picked at my nails absently. "Like Adam and Eve?"
"Yes, but unlike Christians, the Greeks believed in many gods. Pandora's box was originally called Pandora's jar, but somewhere down the line of storytellers it changed."
Despite my reluctance, I found that tidbit of information fascinating.
"It could have been something similar to your mother's jar," she said. "I have one like it in my office at school. I guess your mother and I had a common interest. You're welcome to stop by if you'd like to see it," she invited, but I refused to take the bait and remained silent. 
"Anyway, I'm surprised she never told you the story. Would you like to hear it?" she asked. 
She didn't wait for me to answer. "Let's see," she said, propping one hand under her chin with a thoughtful look. "There are many different versions of this myth, but the general story is the same. The gist of it-- You don't mind putting up with me a little longer do you?"
"No, go ahead." 
She had to stay longer for Dad to believe that I'd unloaded all of my emotional crap. Only then would he finally leave me alone. Besides, now I wasn't the one blabbing, she was. And, I had to admit I was a little curious to hear about the myth, especially if my mom knew the story.
"Well, the story of Pandora's Box, or jar, if you will, is a story about the origin of women and also the beginning of evil on Earth."
I rolled my eyes.
The doctor smiled. "Yes, we women do seem to get the blame for everything, don't we? But it was man who first told the story, so ..."
"Figures," I muttered.
"Exactly," she laughed, the sound bringing an unwilling smile to my lips. "Anyway, most of the stories say that two Titan brothers, Prometheus and Epimetheus, created all the creatures of earth, with the help of other gods, of course, who breathed life into them. Prometheus formed them out of clay and his brother gave them their various qualities, such as swiftness, strength, cunning, or physical attributes like fur, feathers, horns and so on. Unfortunately, by the time they came to man, all the best characteristics had been given out. So, Prometheus decided to make man stand upright by stealing Zeus's lightning." 
She paused dramatically and then said, "With that lightning, he was able to make fire and give it to man. Zeus, of course, was furious when he found out because he didn't want man to have anything of his. But it was already done."
Despite my efforts to remain detached, I was fascinated.
"To retaliate against Prometheus and to punish man, Zeus asked Hephaestus to create the first woman, naming her Pandora. He asked the other gods to each give Pandora a gift, which they did. She became beautiful, charming, musical, and curious." 
"Not much of a revenge gift," I said.
"Not yet." She wiggled her eyebrows meaningfully. "Zeus secretly made sure to add one final ingredient to set the stage for his revenge: a deceptive and lying heart. Since Prometheus' brother, Epimetheus, decided to remain on earth with the humans, Zeus offered Pandora to him as a bride. Epimetheus became besotted by her beauty and charm, forgetting Prometheus' warning about the consequences of accepting gifts from a god."
Dr. Frankler shifted, recrossing her legs. I blinked, realizing I'd moved closer to her. I pressed myself into the couch, grabbing a decorative pillow to squeeze. 
"Then," continued the doctor. "For their wedding Zeus gave Pandora a jar, telling her she must never open it. But he knew that her curiosity and deceitful heart would cause her to disobey him, and he was right. Eventually, she opened the jar only to release a swarm of evil upon mankind. Some say they were evil spirits, some say they were all the ills of mankind."
"Sounds a bit like when Eve tempted Adam with the forbidden fruit and they got kicked out of the Garden of Eden," I said, fully engaged in her story. 
"Quite right, Tru. Christians have a similar story, for when Adam and Eve left the Garden, they were susceptible to death and all manner of afflictions."
"And in both stories, it's the woman's fault." I smiled wryly.
"Ah yes. That's the eternal plight of women, no? However, Pandora's story doesn't end there. Realizing too late what she had done, Pandora tried to close the lid on the escaping evil, but fortunately she was too late, for the last thing to fly from the jar was Hope." 
"Why would Hope be in a jar of evil?" I asked.
"Many have wondered this. Perhaps Zeus took pity on mankind and included it as a balm against the evil she unleashed." Dr. Frankler shrugged, her delicate shoulders lifting up and down. "On the other hand, some believe that hope is false and blinding, and therefore, evil itself."
"That's cheery," I said mockingly.
"Yes," she agreed with a smile. "Personally, I like the idea that hope helps us meet the challenges of life, particularly the ills of this world. Regardless, this is the Greek way of explaining why dreadful things happen."
"Seems pretty misogynistic to me. Why do the women always get the shaft in these myths?"
Dr. Frankler's laughter pealed like bells, making my lips twitch up. "I have to agree with you. Like I said before, women aren't the ones who wrote these stories."
"Yeah. Stupid men did. I'd like to hear some myths or fairy tales that a woman wrote."
"Me too! Perhaps you will write them someday." Her eyes twinkled with amusement. "Well, Greek myths are entertaining, nonetheless. I've always thought that overcoming the tribulations of the world makes us stronger people. I like to think Zeus's plan backfired. Mankind flourished and covered the earth despite all the evil that had been released."
I considered the dark months after Mom's death when I had been drowning in the loss of her. I thought about Uncle Ira and Dad and Ruthie and all the kind things they did for me. The experience had changed me. I became more sympathetic, less selfish, and kinder. My perspective had altered in many good ways. I thought about the children I worked with at the rec center and the joy I felt working with them. I wouldn't have appreciated them before the accident, I realized. Those kids had given me hope and helped me pull away from my depression. 
"I think hope is a good quality, not a weakness," I said.
"I think you are absolutely right," she agreed, a knowing smile playing along her lips. "Pandora's curiosity may have released the worst qualities into the world, but she also released one of the best. I can't imagine a world without hope."
I thought about all the questions I still had about my mother and the supernatural events of the past few weeks. Was my curiosity dangerous? I didn't know. And Dante had found me, not the other way around. I had never gone looking for him.

As Percy got home he noticed his uncle was here and was about to run over to him and give him a hug. But then Percy noticed his mother and uncle had a serious face right now.


Percy: what's going on is everything ok?



Sally: I think you should sit down and then we will talk.


Percy sat down wondering if they found his porn stash or something. But then his uncle spoke shattering his mind.


Hades: first off do you know my name?


Percy: obviously your uncle Luciferious.


Hades: that's my last name do you know my first name?


Percy was confused and shamed his head no 


Percy: no sorry.... is this have something to do with the talk.


Hades: yes it has everything to do with our talk and has to do with who your father is....


Percy: Oh my god are you my father!


Hades: hahaha no Percy I'm not your father but as you already know I'm his brother my name is Hades.


Percy: like the Greek one?


Hades: no not like the Greek god I am the the Greek god Hades....and your father is Poseidon.


Percy was upset because he thought his uncle was doing some cruel joke until Hades made a flame appear in his hands.


Hades: I'm serious Percy your father is Poseidon god of the sea and I'm Hades god of the underworld and king of the Grand Order


Percy: So everything is true? all the Greek myths are true? how is that possible?


Hades: yes, yes, and because when a mommy Rhea and a daddy Cronus loves each other very much they-

but Hades was cut off by a hyperactive Percy

Percy: No no no no no that's not what I mean gross ok I don't want the answers for that. but why haven't seen my dad?

Hades: because unlike us in the Grand Order the Olympians have a strict don't get involved with the mortal world rule while the Grand order spends time with their children often by making avatars of ourselves.


Percy: so it's because Olympians don't get involved with their children?

Hades: yes..... I'm sorry

Percy: two words "Shitty parenting"

Hades: *break's down laughing* language yes it was funny but still language.

Sally was mad that Percy used that type of language in front of her and called him out on it.

Sally: who taught you to talk like that?

Percy: sorry Mom.....

Hades: anyways we want to take you to camp half blood so you can learn to protect yourself. and  to meet some other demigods like yourself....though your the only child of Poseidon as Zeus and Poseidon swore never to have kids again after world war 2 ya that's all them apparently zeus was on one side Poseidon on the other.... both broke their own oath in the end.

Percy: so in the end I am the only one? and I wasn't wanted

Hades: oh you were wanted but yes you are the only one

Sally: let's go Grover, Chiron, and Alecto is waiting for us 

Percy: wait what why is Grover in the same list as a fury and a centaur?

Hades: oh ya Mr. Brunner is Chiron, Mrs. Dudds is Alecto, and finally Grover is a satyr  surprise now let's go.

The three left the house and drove towards camp where they saw Grover with a woman with bat wings and a centaur which was obviously Alecto and Chiron.

Chiron:your finally here glad to have you.

Grover:hey Percy we will talk later....sorry for not telling you.

on the other hand Alecto bowed towards Hades.

Alecto: master your will has been done 

Hades found her behavior adorable after all he always saw the creatures of the underworld has his kids. So Hades started petting her head.

Hades: as I promised I will give you and your sisters bodies of Angels when we get back so we can clean you of cronus's...well you know what

Alecto: thank you master I will see you in the Underworld. and Percy be good and make friends in this world you need it.

after her final words she was swallowed by flames and returned to the underworld.

Hades: Ok Percy when you get a mission to find a lightning thief who's putting suspicion on you bring me the Master bolt  ok? btw I'm going to be a camp counselor so know I'm going to be giving your mother updates.

Sally: You better I won't be having my son doing crazy stunts. Oh and Percy I expect you to get a girlfriend I expect a grandchild before I die.

Percy was sweating bullets as Hades was laughing at this mother son duo 

Hades: well we will leave you two to say your goodbyes come on Chiron, Grover let's go.

And then Hades left dragging the centaur and satyr duo away from the mother and son.

Hades: I hope he will be ok I mean destiny says he will be with a daughter of Athena.... maybe I should ask Cupid to play Mach maker and get Percy a Harem.

while talking in a whisper where Chiron and Grover could hear and was sweating bullets from Hades evil plan to have lots of Grand nephews and nieces while Hades himself was thinking of names to add to Percy's harem.


After a good 30 minutes Percy came and joined the three. Percy noticed Chiron and Grover looked at him with pity and Hades looked at him as if he saw a new toy to play with giving him chills.

Percy: w...what d...did I miss

Hades/Grover/Chiron: Nothing


Hades: So are you ready to start your new life?

Percy: as ready as I will ever be....

and so the three lead Percy towards the camp, and when it was finally in sight Hades spoke

Hades:well my boy welcome to Camp half blood the camp for all Demigods who need to learn to protect themselves.... now if excuse me I have a specific wine god to shake down do get a good drink see you later.

after making his choices and being crowned as Hades Luciferious god I the underworld from a random draw caused by his choices. he is told he needs training and is sent to different worlds to be a god and finally to be a god in his new world with others chosen to be a god.

Adam- is the name used in the opening chapters of the Book of Genesis and the Quran for the first man created by God. In my story, he is a being that came into existence unknown at the time and created humankind across the universe.

Lilith - is the first wife of Adam before eve. In my story, she is the great ancestor of Lucy Nightengale. 

Lucifer - (Satan, Morning-Star, etc.) is the fallen angel in charge of hell. In my story, Satan is a she. She was born long after Adam left and is a descendant of Lilith.

Zeus- is the sky and thunder god in ancient Greek religion. In my story is a warrior who died fighting Adam in the Prelude chapter. He gives the earth back its ability to use mana. 

Hermes -  is the god of trade, heraldry, merchants, commerce, roads, sports, travelers, and athletes in Ancient Greek religion and mythology. He is the god who gifts Leo his watch and dies to protect the earth.

Native Indian Gods/myths

Asdzání Shash Nádleehé- Navajo God- a god that can shapeshift from human to she-bear. Similar to the original story, my god who was only (construct level) was tricked into marriage by the Coyote god and had her virginity taken. Coyote then shapeshifted into Changing Bear and killed her family. Then her village killed her for thinking she turned evil.

Hindu Gods/myths

Brahma (Brahmā) - is a creator god in Hinduism. In my story, he left a palace in the mountains of North India. 

Lankini- She was a powerful Rakshasi from the ancient Hindu epic Ramayana. She guarded the home of the creator, Brahma. Then he cursed her to defend the city of Rakshasas. 

Lankani - Is the fictional guardian of Brahma's Palace I created. 

Mahisha - (Mahishasura) is the buffalo demon. In my story, he is a shapeshifter and powerful earth cultivator. He is the husband of Durga. Shiva eventually slays him.

Durga - the goddess of battle. She has eight arms and fights demons. In mythology, her most epic battle is with Mahishasura. In my novel, she is the wife of Mahisha. Shiva kills her husband and takes her as his concubine. 

Shiva - the god of destruction. He is one of the three main gods in Hinduism and fights demons. He was also known as the transformation god. In my story, he fights Lucifer and sneakily kills her.
