I saw my best friend Samuel,  chatting with his girlfriend, Lucy.  As I went near them,  Lucy greeted me. 
" Hey, Claire ".
" Hey, Lucy. Guess you're taking care of my best friend pretty good, huh? ".
" That's none of your business ", Samuel replied. 
I made a face and Lucy laughed at us . 

" Hey, when are you ask him out? ", Samuel asked.

I almost dial her number but decided to text her first, she did not reply. I was thinking maybe she is busy and no time with me or whatever. So I just turned my 32 inches LED TV to lessen my boredom.

After a few minutes, I got a response from her. I texted her back if I can call her then I send. Just a minute she was the one calling me and I got a wide smile receiving her call.

"Hey, besh, miss you" she said. 'Oh gosh, I really totally miss her.'

"I miss you too Macy. How are you lately? It has been a while we barely communicate." I said with a tone of sadness.

"Yeah, I agree and it has been a while like forever. But I am happy that you called me now. I really miss you besh wish you are here with me. So, what is new about you in there?"

"Me too besh, me too, I wish that we are just near. I am alone in the house as always. Just got here after Shane's graduation."

"Well, there is nothing new about that." I heard her laughed on the other line. "So, how was your brother's graduation?" she asked.

"We ate outside in a restaurant together with Zander's mother and Zander but dropped me off here after because my parents have to work then Shane and his friends are going to a graduation party."

"Oh, that's nice." 

We talked quite longer about her and me, about school and everything until I heard baby's cries in the background.

"Is that a baby crying?" I asked her.

"Yeah, m-my cousin's baby and I, I am helping her taking care. Anyways, I gotta go besh, talk to you soon. I love you miss you. Bye." She said in a hurry that she did not wait for my reply.

"Huh! That was weird." I shook my head and watch some movies.

We grew up together since the day I was tagging along with my brother Shane & his best friend Zander. I started having a crush on him however, he left his hometown to be his father.

After two years he came back, more handsome than before. We became closer than we were little. But one night on my birthday something happened.

Could this be the end of friendship?
Or could this be the beginning of romantic relationship?

There was a weird atmosphere the weeks that followed finals. We had finally finished senior year! Yet, there was a bittersweet feeling about that statement.

Thank goodness we had finished the times of pointless all nighters to scramble and get homework finished. Thank goodness that we were finally over with the school year. It had been stressful.

And yet, there was still that sad feeling because some people knew that they would never see each other again.

And I was terrified to go to England, which would have to happen as soon as possible. In fact, my first semester would be the summer after graduation.

Miyah was getting ready to go traveling before she started her year as a freshman in UCLA. I was going to miss her; I knew that I was going to miss her so much.

I was afraid that I might never see her again, but too afraid to express my fears. 

It was soon the day of graduation. Mother left me alone to get myself ready and to prepare myself for everything. Father took the day off of work so that he could attend my graduation.

I tried to ready myself for the graduation speech. I read through it once, then twice, and then three times just in case. 

I was so nervous. I suppose that was to be expected, though. 

I arrived to graduation in my robes, with cords draped around my shoulders, showcasing sports, good grades, and some other achievements.

I let out another nervous breath. 

"You're going to do great, Bro," one of the guys near me said.

I mumbled a thank you. We all sat down at our places, and the graduation ceremony soon started.

James was the first to give a speech, and then Miyah gave a speech. Then, it was my turn. 

I rushed through my speech which was about how our future was going to be great, and that college was a new chapter of our lives or something along those lines.

There was much applaud as I sat down, and I could see both of my parents in the crowd. That made me smile; I was so glad that Father could make it and that Mother decided to get out of the house. 

I could also see Miyah's parents. I made eye contact with her mother, and her mother kept her gaze on me. She had a slight frown on her face.

I averted my gaze, not able to withstand holding eye contact.

The graduation was soon over, and we all threw our caps into the air. Father and Mother stayed where they were, and I ended up finding them. As soon as I did, they asked me to go home with them. 

"Sorry, Mother and Father. My friends want to celebrate. We were going out to eat."

Though Father had a smile on his face, Mother had a slight frown on hers. "Be careful," is all she said, with my father agreeing with her. They soon left.

I was left alone.

I scanned the crowds to find people I knew, and the person I cared for the most in that whole entire school.

It wasn't Miyah that I found first. Instead, it was actually Jack. He approached me first, which somehow surprised me.

"Hey," he said.

"Hey," I replied.

We both stood there for a second. "It's crazy that we've graduated," Jack muttered, just loud enough so that I could hear them.

"Yeah," I agreed.

He rolled his eyes, and let out a sigh. "You know, it was hard for me too. But Tessa was the one to break up with me. She didn't want to deal with me anymore, and I don't blame her for that. But you're the one that broke up with Miyah. So, why act like this?"

"Like what?" I asked, evading his question and the fact that he knew the truth. If Jack was able to see my feelings for Miyah, then who else could tell? And how couldn't Miyah tell that I still liked her? That I liked, no, loved her?

Jack let out a laugh. "Don't try to deny your feelings because they'll eventually get stronger. Trust me, I know. I just hope you're willing to deal with the consequences of your actions. I don't want to see any of you get hurt, but I'm afraid it's going to happen anyways. Not everybody is going to be happy. Unfortunately, that's how life is, isn't it?"

I gave him a small smile. "Don't worry. I'm not going to get in the way of James and Miyah. That wouldn't be fair on my part. You are right with what you said before; I was the one who broke up with Miyah. As long as she's happy, I'm happy. Nothing else matters. Besides, I'm going to England to study. Miyah would have hated the idea of a long distance relationship."

Jack shrugged. "All right."

"What about you?" I asked.

He froze, but managed to chuckle, "What about me?"

"What about you and Tessa? Tessa still likes you too, you know."

Jack frowned. "No. She doesn't. Besides, even if she did, she doesn't deserve me. She deserved better, and I already made the mistake of not giving her enough time. I feel awful, but there's no way to stop my career right now."

"It's too late for the both of us, isn't it?" I asked, finally tracing down where Miyah was.

She was with her parents and with James and his parents. Of course...

Jack followed my gaze, and gave me a sympathetic smile. I shook my head, not wanting him to feel pity for me.

Jack shrugged, and then made his way over there. 

After I had talked with some other people, I prepared to leave. However, Miyah stopped me at the gate. 

"There you are!" She exclaimed, and gave me a hug. "We did it!"

I grinned. "Yeah! We did it!"

"Hey Matthew?"

"Mhmm?"

"Want to come to my grad party? It's in two weeks, on Saturday."

I nodded. "Sure."

"We probably looked like a couple crazy in love. But, of course we would. We had concocted our pretend relationship perfectly, keeping the mask on until we could turn and hiss at each other in private once again. In an ironic way, the guy I hated the most was also the only person who knew the real me."




Miyah knew James since they were young. Yet, Miyah can't stand the guy...

One day, as James gets surrounded by friends and girls that are interested in him, he suddenly announces that he and Miyah are dating. 

Miyah decides to play along. However, she's always had feelings for her old best friend from elementary, whom she sees once again. 


James has always liked Miyah. For some reason, she's always hated him. James decides to show Miyah that he's different than what she thinks and so he forces her to pretend to date him and to finally see him for the person he is.
