"I understand!" Su Mo said with a slight nod.
He did not think much of this so-called benevolence for he fully intended to leave this place after a few days.
"Since you are one of us now, you will have to abide by our laws. If you break any of them, you will be sentenced to death!" Governor Bai explained slowly.
Once again, Su Mo nodded.

He sat on an emerald rock, and with Flower Fox Ferret by his side, carefully flipped the pages of one of the manuals.

Fang Yuan flipped the manual and scanned the manual quickly. He noticed that even though the book seemed old, the wordings were written with much force, and some of it was blurred. The corner of some pages was torn, which showed how many generations the book was passed down from. This manual was simply an antique.
"I can't believe he sent the original copy to me, looks like Minister Lin did not have any intention to cheat me…"
Fang Yuan nodded his head.
These type of martial arts manuals had to be as accurate as possible because even the slightest deviation from copying to another copy might result in an entirely different result altogether, so the original copy was still the best.

Perhaps the men did not see my bike so I had to clarify myself. "Sorry to bother you but I am looking for somewhere to secure my bike. I do not think people will like it if I make brown tracks in the buil-"

I was about to finish my sentence but a rude guy pushed me aside while towing a woman along. I watched with hanging jaws as the expensive couple rushed past me. The woman tugged on his hand but he would not stop so she shouted an apology which did not bring down my anger. Without further thought I drag my bike through the open doors. "Thank you."

The man in uniform nods with a scowl as he closes the door behind me. I know he is not mad because of me but the incident with the fancy man still made me feel horrible and I try to forget the scene as I walk my bike over to a bike rack beside the front desk. A secretary looks up from a pile of papers, surprising me with a pleasant smile. I tried to smile back but her face does not tell me if I looked kind or mischievous.

"Hello, how can I help you today?" The woman sits straighter in her chair and beamed brightly. I could not tell if she was saying these words out of duty or if she is naturally bubbly. She is still wearing her jacket so I assumed she had just arrived just like me. The brown eyed secretary sees my bike and got up to make her way around the white desk. "Let me take that for you. What is your name and what are you doing here?"

I let her take my bike and dig into my pant pockets to pull out two things. She took my business card first, her eyebrows rising as she reads the small piece of paper. Then, she looks at the sticky note with my customer's information that I scribbled down using a blue highlighter. She frowns and my mind thought of the worst. "Am I late?"

"No, you are fine. It's interesting, I wonder what an artist is doing in a finance building. Anyway, Parker just came in so I suggest you wait for a bit to allow him to settle. His office is on the eleventh floor, number 1125." The secretary recorded my name in a book for visitors. Then she slid a plastic card across the counter. "This is your identification card. Show this if anyone asks who you are." 

"Thank you. I assume I would need to come here to sign out, return the card and retrieve my bike?" I said as I struggled to pick up the card with my fingers. I cut my nails just yesterday so it was a bit difficult to use my fingers. I quit trying to use the tips of my fingers and slid the card towards me. I muttered under my breath. "I am so dumb." 

I could feel my cheeks start to heat up but the secretary is now talking on the phone so I think she is not paying attention to anything I do. I start backing away from the front desk and took in the building for the first time. The color scheme consists of blues and white which I like. I could see a tall glass pillar filled with water and aquarium fish. The glass must be very strong and it looks clean.

"That looks interesting," I breathed. Spiraling around the cylindrical aquarium is stairs that makes the cylinder look like a screw. As if on instinct I take out the pencil from my pocket and set my tote bag down gently. I whipped out a sketchbook and flip to a random page to sketch the cool structure. I avoided drawing detailed fish because if I do my powers would be activated. 

After finishing the simple and quick drawing I stood on the silvery stairs to stare at the calming aquarium. I think that this is a great thing to see in a busy building where stress is plenty but as I stood on the stairs no one going up would stop to look. People were looking at their phones, tablets, schedules and suits. 

"Where is that artist named Vivian? She should have arrived ten minutes ago! Where is she, I'm a busy man!" I jump, clutching the silver railings as I make my way down the stairs. A man who had his back turned to me was leaning on the white front desk. Theshade of his blue suit looks familiar but I could not put my eye on it.

The man was shouting at the kind secretary. The poor woman looked petrified as she pointed at me. She looked very uncomfortable but she still had to put up with the the prick because it is her job. "I did not want to send her up while you were just settling in. I told her to wait a bit but she came very early." 

"Mr. Parker?" I see the man turn around and his face made me want to walk back to the stairs. I stopped walking and my last step echoed through the bright lobby. "It's you? Stop yelling at her, she was perfectly doing her job until a jerk like you came along. You still need to apologize to me for bumping into me earlier." 

"My assistant already apologized to you and I can treat my workers however I want. I am hiring you so I suggest you treat me with the utmost respect because I will be your boss for a few weeks. I can fire both of you whenever I feel like it." The man dressed in expensive brands made his way over to me. I could not hold back my face of disgust. 

"Employees, beggars, whoever! They are alk humans who make mistakes but she did not make any mistakes. Her intentions for you were good but you treated her as if she is in the wrong." I felt my head start to throb but I must not show my weakness. I need to fight this brat. I pushed my face up. 

"How can you fire me if I was never hired by you? I am a freelancing artist who has more customers besides you. I will give you respect when you learn how to be a decent person. Also, call me back when you feel more kind." I do not even pull out my business card. I turn my back to him to hide my frustration. "You know which number to call. I need to go to the washroom." 

"I will guide you there," The secretary said timidly. I can her the desperation in her voice, she wanted to get out of here and I wanted to help her. I nod, noticing for the first time the nametag on her chest. Her name is Tamara and the tag looks well taken care of. Somehow, Tamara wears it proudly. 

I let her lead me across the white lobby and we duck into a bright washroom. The lights around the large mirror and the marble sinks blinded my eyes but Tamara did not look bothered at all. She places her hands on the counter and stares at her reflection. I pick a stall and start pulling out my drawing materials. 

"I might take a while, you can stay here with me until I'm done. Damn, that Parker guy is an asshole even if he's the boss." I hear Tamara chuckle as I turned on my tablet. The next moments of silence was spent listening to her wash her face and I was quickly drawing something I hope would cheer her up. 

I quickly finish my rough sketch and concentrated on picking out shades of brown and yellow. I must pour all of my emotions if I wanted to make this work. I sigh, not exactly satisfied with the final drawing but I merge all the layers. I press save anyway. I waited until a real teddy bear clutching a daffodil materializes on top of the screen. Success! 

Yes, this is my superpower. I can bring illustrations to life. The only thing I cannot do is bring dead people back to life but whoever receives my drawings would find something from the picture becomes real. I have been pestered by many customers asking me why they found a rose on their nightstands or how a sword from a piece became real. 

Of course, I had to pretend I do not know which may have sent them to therapy sessions but I have to protect my secret. Cale confirmed the Mercenary King's expression changing before turning back around and heading toward the records.

Bud just blankly stared at Cale's back.

Pat. Pat.

He only returned to his senses and started to speak after the ancient Dragon patted his shoulders before walking past him. The ancient Dragon was approaching Cale.

"…Eruhaben-nim, are you saying the White Star is someone who repeatedly died and was born again?"
"Yes. He reincarnated over and over."

Eruhaben looked toward Cale who stopped in front of a desk and was looking around before continuing to speak.

"That is why we came here to look for records about him. He should have left traces throughout the Eastern and Western continents during his reincarnations."

Bud quickly responded back.

"…There's no way that we have no records on such a strong individual."

However, Bud's lips opened and closed a few times without saying anything before he stopped hesitating and continued to speak.

"However, it is close to impossible to find traces of him in these tens of thousands of books."

As the current Mercenary King, he had the most knowledge about these records than any other living being.

"Each book has hundreds of people listed in it. It is … Almost not realistic to go through hundreds of thousands of individuals."

He peeked toward Ron Molan before continuing to speak.

"Of course, I have a good knowledge of all of the strong individuals in the past fifty years. Those are considered the, 'currently recording,' information."

Ron Molan was an example of a strong individual from the Eastern continent whose traces had disappeared.
That was why the Mercenaries Guild was keeping his record under the, 'currently recording,' status.

"…Around two hundred years might be doable, but a thousand years is just-"
"Bud."

Someone cut him off.
It was Cale.

"Where is the first-ever record?"

"Haaaaaaaaa."

Bud sighed at Cale who seemed ready to start looking from the first-ever record. He quickly walked over to Cale.

"Cale, are you planning on spending the next few years in here? Hmm?"

Bud was getting frustrated.
He didn't understand why such a smart person would pick such a method.

"I'm sure it will be helpful to look up his past since the White Star is a reincarnator. However, there are 1,000 years worth of records."

Bud picked up a book from the bookshelf and opened it up.

"It has each strong individual's birth, date, and general information about their lives. Furthermore, we also record the powers they use. Each book has hundreds of such records."

Bud had felt like he was going to suffocate when he first became the Mercenary King and came in here.
He was overwhelmed by the information.

At the same time, it helped him understand how the Mercenaries Guild was able to remain a strong force in the Eastern continent without having any land of their own.

They had records that were just as valuable as land.
In some aspects, this was the scariest power.
That was the overwhelming nature of these records.

Bud started to point out the issues in Cale's plans one by one.

"Even if you start reading from the first record, it would be difficult to remember the first strong individual in the book by the time you are only a third of the way through it."

Even a person with a good memory would find it difficult to remember over thirty people's information.
Just looking through three of the books would make it confusing to remember which information belonged to whom.

"Furthermore, how do you plan on finding traces of the White Star? How will you be able to tell which strong individual was the White Star's first incarnation?"

Bud had smelled quite a number of scents coming from the White Star.
He had a variety of ancient powers like Cale such that it was difficult to accurately pinpoint everything.

"Plus, Cale, don't you need to quickly capture the White Star? What you are trying to do will require a bunch of people working nonstop for months, no, years to achieve."

It was impossible to just read and remember all of these records.
You had to divide up the task with others.

Bud then said the thing that confused him the most.

"I'm sure you know about this fact more than anybody else. So why are you doing this?"

Cale picked up the book that Bud pulled out and turned the pages.

Shhh.

The pages that were stiff like new books thanks to the preservation magic quickly turned one by one.
Bud who was watching this could not help but speak again.

"Cale Henituse, this-"
"It's fine for me."

Bud flinched.

He was not the only one.
The rest of the group who were busy looking around at the area focused on Cale.
Bud asked the calm Cale a question.

"…What?"

'What did he just say?
He is capable of doing what I just talked about?
But how?
…I don't smell such an ability on him.'

Bud looked at Cale smile as Cale stopped looking at the book and turned back toward him.

"First, one week."

Cale did not plan on staying here for a long time either.

"I will find the first within that time."

The strong individual he believed to be the first incarnation of the White Star.
If he finds that person's birth and death, then he just needed to look for the next information based on the time of death.

Cale's group knew about the White Star's Dragon Slayer powers and ancient powers. Of course, Bud did not know the details because none of them had told him yet.
Cale's group had a decent amount of knowledge on the White Star's powers.
That was why it was possible to find the first incarnation.

"…How? How will you find the first incarnation?"

Cale chuckled while looking at Bud who was standing there with a blank expression on his face.
It was similar to the expressions people had when Kim Rok Soo had first awakened.

Kill or be killed.
Live or let live.

The war between monsters and humans.
The war between humans and humans.

It was a world full of destruction because of all of that.

Kim Rok Soo had been determined to have awakened an ability that was useless in such a world, an ability that would only help him in a peaceful world.

However, that power allowed Kim Rok Soo to keep living without dying.
He confidently answered the confused Bud's question.

"Take a look."

He then asked.

"Where is it?"

Bud stood there quietly for a while before pointing to a location.

"The innermost shelf. The first book on the bottom left."

Cale walked toward the location Bud had pointed out.

"That book is the first record."

He heard Bud's voice coming from behind him as he pulled out the first book from the bookshelf. He then started to turn the pages.

Flip, flip.

Only the sound of pages turning could be heard.
Cale just stood there reading.

"…Ho."

Bud let out a gasp at Cale's actions. However, he made eye contact with the others before walking toward the innermost bookshelf as well.
He needed to help Cale.
He couldn't just stand there and do nothing.

However, the group of people heading toward Cale had to stop.
Bud was the first to stop.
Next were Eruhaben, Choi Han, Ron, and Beacrox.
Even the children averaging nine-years-old flinched.

Flip, flip, flip.

They just heard the sound of pages turning.
That was why they felt that something was off.

Flip, flip, flip.

It was quiet around Cale.
He was just quietly turning the pages.

That was the weird part.

Bud had no choice but to ask.

"…What is up with his speed?"

Flip. Flip.

At first, it didn't seem very odd.
Cale was turning pages at a reasonable pace.

'…It was as if he was reading a novel.'

Bud then realized that it had been weird from the beginning.

Flip. Flip. Flip.

Cale was slowly turning the pages faster and faster. It seemed as if he was just taking a peek before turning the page.
Bud even had this kind of thought.

'Is he not thoroughly going through and remembering the details about each strong individual?
Is he just quickly skimming through?'

However, the feeling Cale was giving off did not seem that way.
He seemed to be thoroughly reading.

"Cale."

Cale raised his head after hearing someone calling his name.
The ancient Dragon observed Cale's eyes with an odd expression on his face. Cale's expression was same, but his eyes felt cold.
The ancient Dragon could not ask many questions. He used his memory of everything Cale had done as the basis to ask.

"You're remembering all of it, right?"

'You're not just skimming it, you actually remember the information, right?'

Cale answered the ancient Dragon's question.

"Of course."

Cale answered in his usual nonchalant way before resuming reading. His reddish brown eyes looked at the text inside the book.

Flip.

He turned a page.
The information on the page became recorded in his mind. The speed continued to increase.

Bud could only quietly watch Cale.

'…What a scary ability.'

He really thought that this ability was scary.
It was different than the fancy magic, destructive aura, and even the different types of ancient powers. This ability was something that was not visible.

It was so unnoticeable that you would not even realize that he was using an ability if you did not look closely.

It was not an ability that could kill someone, but Bud thought that this ability was really the one that would make it easy to kill or control someone.

Everything would be recorded in the user's mind.

Bud could only gulp and watch.
However, he soon heard someone walking.

"Cale-nim."

Cale raised his head after hearing the cautious calling. Choi Han was looking at him.

"What is it?"
"I wish to help."

Choi Han smiled awkwardly at Cale who was looking at him and continued to speak.

"Of course, I am a slow reader and my memory is not that good, but I thought I could still help."

Cale recalled some memories of his past.

'Team leader-nim, shall I help?'
'Isn't it time to go home?'
'Nah, it's okay.'
'Like hell it's okay. Isn't your kid waiting for you at home? Go home.'
'But…'
'It's fastest and most accurate for me to do it. You don't need to do this part.'

He moved the conversation he had with one of his subordinates to a corner of his mind as he raised his hand.
He then pointed to the second bookshelf.

"I think it would be good to look through there."

It was rare for Cale to not give detailed orders.
However, Choi Han smiled and walked over to the second bookshelf. Eruhaben and Beacrox followed behind him.

Ron stood next to Cale and just looked at him.
Ron's gaze made Cale subconsciously start to speak.

"…What is it? Are you shocked that I have an ability like this?"

Cale closed his mouth after saying that. He was thinking that he said something he should not have said.
He heard Ron responding to him.

"Well, I'm sure you just hid it, young master-nim."

Ron had a benign smile on his face as he continued to speak.

"It's not like you told us how you gathered all of those ancient powers either."

The shield, the fiery thunderbolt, the Super Rock, etc.

Cale had never explained to the group how he had gained all of these ancient powers. He always just disappeared before returning with an extra ancient power.

Cale had a random thought that it would be frustrating to have a group member like himself. The old man continued to speak as Cale found it even harder to say anything after having that thought.

"Looking at the books like the others is not my task."

Ron continued to speak to the twenty years old Cale who was quietly looking at him.

"I am your servant, young master-nim. Tending to your needs by your side is my role."

Ron then just quietly stood next to Cale.
Cale quietly looked at Ron for a moment before turning back to the book.

"…I guess that is your role."

Cale also realized what his role was as well.

Flip. Flip.

He was quickly turning pages as he heard another voice.

"I, the great and mighty Raon Miru can read quickly! My memory is good as well! I am smart, great, and mighty! That is why I will do it too!"
"…I…I learned how to read from Hans and grandpa Ron! I'm going to do it too!"
"I'm already reading one!"
"Noona, you really are amazing!"

Cale chuckled while listening to the children averaging nine-years-old.

However, the large records library soon became quiet.

Flip. Flip.

Only the sound of pages being turned could be heard.
Cale then heard Beacrox ask a question.

"What exactly are we looking for?"

Cale thought about the White Star.

"Gather any record on strong individuals who use the Dragon Slayer's powers or ancient powers."

A response came from someone else.

"Is that power the Dragon Slayer's power?"

It was Bud. He touched his nose as he walked over to the second bookshelf.

"The White Star had a unique scent along with the scent of ancient powers. Then I should help as well."

Bud thought about the information he gathered on the White Star through his scent and turned a page.

However, there was a unique sound through the process.

Flip, flip, flip.

It was the sound of pages turning extremely quickly.
Bud imagined Cale becoming a living record as he focused on reading the record in front of him.

'Mm.'

Ron groaned internally.

This was an area where the temperature was maintained all the time.
There should be no reason for someone to sweat.

He moved his hand.
The handkerchief in his hand landed on someone's forehead.

'…Why is he sweating so much?'

Ron Molan could see Cale who was sweating profusely.
Cale's face had become extremely red as well.

The records storage area was chilly, but Cale was heating up as if he was sick.
However, he did not stop and continued to record the information.

There were close to ten thousand record books behind his back as if they were his footprints.

When I opened my eyes, I was inside a novel.
[The Birth of a Hero].

[The Birth of a Hero] was a novel focused on the adventures of the main character, Choi Han, a high school boy who was transported to a different dimension from Earth, along with the birth of the numerous heroes of the continent.

I became a part of that novel as the trash of the Count’s family, the family that oversaw the territory where the first village that Choi Han visits is located.

The problem is that Choi Han becomes twisted after that village, and everyone in it, are destroyed by assassins.

The bigger problem is the fact that this stupid trash who I’ve become doesn’t know about what happened in the village and messes with Choi Han, only to get beaten to a pulp.

“…This is going to be a problem.”

I feel like something serious has happened to me.

But it was worth trying to make this my new life.

I'm bored.

As in very very nothing to do bored. 

It's been a few days since we've arrived in the capital but due to my very dramatic display of carriage sickness I've been under doctor's orders to take it easy. To a worried mother that means staying in bed or little to no physical activities. 

That was fine the first day or so but since then I've had plenty of time to rest and recharge back to my usual self. 

Father has an inconsiderate mouth but he's not wrong, I bounce back rather well.

"It's just, I - well darling you this never happened when we traveled before. She's just lost so much weight so fast, even Lilyanne never dropped like this!"

"Oh my dear Maria, that's because Lilyanne never had that much weight to spare. Don't worry, look Rosalia's been fine since we got here. Give or take a day. With her hearty appetite she'll fatten right up!"

What a shit mouth. You should never talk about a lady's weight in such a manner, no matter who she is. What am I? Livestock?

See if I allow anything good to arrive for tea time from now on father. Though it is true though that I've lost a considerable amount of weight while on the road. Even with rest stops, it was one long spell of dizziness , nausea or both. I really could not keep much anything down. 

I'm noticeably scrawnier then even Lilyanne! While a part of me does enjoy mother's unusual affection I don't actually want to take Lilyanne's place. No thank you, fragile and graceful princess role is reserved for her.

Normally if I'm ever trapped in a place I could easily sneak out and wander around. Unfortunetely I can't do so when mother is always with me. Apparently during the half month trip I've been like a very sticky rice cake towards her and she's gotten used to babying me. I spent most of that time asleep but I do have a vague recollection of being lulled by her singing.

That is not according to what I've predicted at all. How do I escape her? It's essentially impossible with Lilyanne in tow. All we do is sit by the fire as she writes letters, does embroidery, or looks over the household's bookkeeping  and reports. 

My only consolation is a large illustrated book of fairy tales that mother had the maids read to us.  The children books of this world is extremely lacking though and this is already a pretty rare item. It's a large gorgeous thing, leather blue with copper gold trimmings. The fairy tales are substandard material, speaking of fair kind maidens and scary things that lurk if children misbehave. but they're amusing enough. The best part of the tome like book was the illustrations, scattered about the pages with a full cover page at the start of each new story.

They were done primarily in black and white but the details were astounding. It was worth it just to admire the impressive art, which was a cross between museum antiquity and the sparkly shoujo mangas that I binge read aback home in my world. 

Lilyanne was even more entranced that I was. It's more than normal for little girls to love pretty things but I recognized it as the artist in her emerging. That Lilyanne in the future will be called the perfect woman for her beautiful looks, sweet nature and mastery in the fine arts. That Lilyanne was both the muse and fellow artist in the highest rings of those circles

But that woman is far from growing up yet, right now she's just the giggling toddler next to me looking at a picture book. 

With our puppy eyes combined we convinced mother to allow us to keep the book and browse through it at our own leisure.

"I trust you two won't damage it."

"Yay mama!"
"We won't, thank you mother."

"Finish your snacks and have the maids clean your hands properly before going through it. And drink all your medicine, don't think I haven't noticed girls."

Though she is a typical fine noble lady, mother does have work that needs her looking after. Even though she won't let us leave the room, we won't bother her unless need be.

It's fascinating to look at the details of the pretty illustrations but Lilyanne is absolutely obsessed with them. She's more than content to stare at them for hours.

That's rather boring after awhile so I read to her, not from the text but fairy tale stories from my own world. We would flip through and select a certain picture and I would tell a story that could match the image enough. 

Simple things such as The Little Red Hen, Cinderella, and Puss in Boots. 

Just the classics that most everyone would know in modern-day. It got a good reaction though, both distracting Lilyanne from her beloved pictures and making her love them even more.

"An den wat? Aat did he do?"

"And then the big bad ogre laughed 'Of course I can!' and turned himself into a mouse but when he did the cat in boots quickly ate him!"

"Oh my goodness!"

There are multiple gasps heard about the large living room. It looks like there's more than just my little sister listening in to storytime. The servants are either doing a terrible job at hiding themselves or just have given up blatantly. And you too mother? Weren't you supposed to be busy?

Well as long as they like it.

It passes the time until we can leave in a few days.

My name is Maria Helia Ventrella and yes I'm the daughter to the great Hero Ronald.

It's something I can't avoid but hear my whole life. That is the thing people most associate with as soon as they hear my name or when I step into the room. I was quite proud of it as a child, then I grew to hate it, then loved it again and back and forth. It was difficult not being known for anything besides that.

And even when I became of age and debuted in society, I was always seen as Ronald's daughter. Papa's shadow was just too strong, it still is. There were a lot of nobles and bad people who wanted to get close to him through me. I had plenty of supposed friends and suitors after me for only my name in the past.

I've since made my peace with that. It's an interesting life to be the one and only child of the essentially the greatest hero the world has ever known. Often times I felt lonely, especially when I was often sick or when papa had to go away to fight.

I didn't have a mama like the other children but I found out it okay because of the love my uncles, aunties and papa bestowed on me. Even though I felt lonely I was never truly alone. I was blessed with an overflowing amount of love to fill up all the missing parts. Especially from papa's special person, ohohoho. 

I figured out my own strength and that if anything ever should happen, I had the largest shield to run home to. I found friends that I could sincerely call my own and made a name for myself, just me.

And then I met him.

At first I found him was very rude, especially for a noble.  But he was a very responsible and capable boy, it was cool. His mouth was terrible but his actions and unspoken kindness said otherwise.

Then I figured he was just another fanboy and felt cheated.

He is a fanboy, that part isn't wrong even now. But unlike all the other suitors and boys my age he never lied to me. Not once. Sometimes the things he said were very mean, and rather hurtful but it was not lies. He would never lie to me.

And so I fell in love with that rudely honest boy. He was my rock, always stable and holding me up in the turbulent seas. He was a very different person from papa, but I felt just as safe with him

That boy grew into an even better man. Better than his family would ever allow him to be.

I couldn't wait or let things go on, I couldn't lose him. Many people could come and go and I would send them off with a smile but not him.

There's a scandalous but popular story that goes around to this day. About how I, the Maria Helia Ventrella, at the cusp of 18, ignored all sense of decorum and proposed in public to the man I would come to marry. 

To be fair I yelled at him to come over and propose to me already. 

He spouted a lot of silly things out of embarrassment but his steaming red face was really cute that day! The ashen faces from his mother and almost fiance were quite pleasant to look at as well.

When we married I gained another name, his wife. Of course he took my family name and it was perfect. I didn't think I could be any happier with Frederick by my side but the Goddess blessed us even further in a few short years. I was with child, or well children. We didn't figure out it was twins until much later when papa fought Frederick darling to the ground for making me cry again. He really shouldn't talk about a lady's weight like that, especially his own pregnant wife. 

It was extremely painful but worth it to bring our little girls out into this world. I was so scared though, the labor was so intensive and my youngest Lilyanne had such a struggle. Afterwards she was so weak that we were told she may not survive long enough to even be baptized. 

But the Goddess is merciful and my Lilyanne survived. Even though she was so small and weak she made it, she lived. 

Even when she was stable I feared the worst and prayed everyday for her. My precious baby girl must stay with us, we need her, I need her. Her weakness resembled my own and I was wrecked with guilt.

It was a shock to see my firstborn for the first time. It is my shame to admit but I had forgotten about her, the stress and fear for tiny Lilyanne consumed me. When I first laid eyes on my eldest I nearly cried for a very different reason, she was so beautiful. So healthy and full of life, energy and everything Lilyanne could be; already there was an noble almost intelligent manner that could be seen in her bearing.

Of course Papa has named her in the mess the followed her birth. Of course he would name her near after his own name Ronald. It was beautiful and strong, fitting for the future heir. Less I have another child later on, possibly a son. It's a hard name to live up to said my darling husband but we both knew our child would fulfill it regardless.

Rosalia would be papa's, the firstborn and heir apparent to the Ventrella name. Even though they were both our little girls, Lilyanne could just be ours. We knew Rosalia would be fine, she would make it just fine.

I focused all my time and energy on Lilyanne even after she began to eat and grow as a healthy normal baby. I gave her all of my own weaknesses so how could I not feel responsible toward this sweet innocent child.

Months later when we awoken to the servants screaming and our babies gone I felt my heart stop.  Our poor babies, both of them helpless, stolen away into the night. One moment they were here, just fine and then...

Thank the Goddess we found them, Papa found them and brought them home safe and sound. How foolish we were to assume things, to not protect them enough. They fell ill with a fever that night till dawn and didn't leave our sights, added security or not.

We were left terrified for them. Frederick even started sleeping with a weapon under his pillow again, that nasty habit. His protectiveness multiplied to an extreme extent, I can't fault him. 
. 
It was a harsh lesson I pray we never have to experience ever again. 

Eventually our peaceful lives returned though we were sure to prevent such a threat from getting near. I suppose afterwards that I continued to be even more worried over Lilyanne. She was much slower to grow than her older sister.

Rosalia took after her papa and grandpapa of course. Her scrunched up face as she repeats her favorite word "no" is beyond all doubt Frederick's face. They even have the same pout and eyebrows. But there's something about her, something that I still can't identify, feels exactly like papa.

Ah as I thought, this child really will be fine.

She's strong, I won't need to worry about her. Just like Papa and Frederick, it's okay if it's Rosalia. 

I regret such thoughts now as I hold my crying girl, trying to comfort her to sleep. Rosalia doesn't travel well I know that but it's especially bad now.

I was prepared for Lilyanne to catch a chill and perhaps fall ill on the trip up north, not Roslaia. She's suffering so much, it seems she inherited my intense childhood motion sickness. Magic has advanced since then but my baby girl is still so small. 

She won't eat in fear of her sickness and what we can feed her comes right back out. It's been going on days now and her health is rapidly declining. 
The best option is to lay down eyes closed as if to sleep away the pain. I don't need the maids to tell me that it's better for someone to hold her steady. She cries less in my arms, but that's not the sole reason I keep her with me.

My poor Rosalia cries in her sleep and I realize that she truly is my foolish Frederick's child. They're both so stubborn. They can bluntly speak their thoughts but not their true feelings. 

"It hurts, it hurts so much."

"There there, mommy's here, sleep now honey."

"Mommy it hurts."

"I know dear, I know."

"It hurts, why is it always Lilyanne... I'm here too, please see me too....don't ignore me. It really hurts so bad."

The streaming tears overcome me. My eldest has never called me 'mommy' before when she's awake but is crying it so pitifully now. Why doesn't she ever say anything when she's awake? She's such a smart little girl and yet so foolish, truely my darling husband's child. She must keep all her loneliness and hurt bottled up inside her. 

How shameful, I'm crying even more than my own sick child. 

"There there, mommy is here. Mommy's sorry, mommy knows now."

Oh this hopeless child, it can't be helped, I'm the same way in the end.

You've probably heard this sort of story before.

 

Once upon a time, blah blah blah a boy and a girl fell love and everything was beautiful and perfect, except for this thing called life getting in their way. 

He was this cool foreign prince and she was basically perfect. Really it's a very boring run of the mill story. I'll even spoil it for you, they kill the villainess at the end.

Not the type of story I'd read personally.


So where do I fit into this?

Apparently I'm her older twin sister and the very very lucky fiance to the foreign prince. You know, the dead villainess? Sucks I know. 

Now I get to do it all over again from the beginning.
