"Brayden, I told you to wait outside!" Nate snarled at me, even though he couldn't see me from his position.

"What, again?" I argued with Nate's backside, stuck in a narrow corridor of paper. Flecks from the pages danced in the dim light as if alive. No wonder, since we were boxed in by mountains of books, stacked up to the room's ceiling. When I had first entered the classy mansion, the view had been a surprise, but no shock. 

After many wards and many houses, I had grown used to this sort of neglect, to the dreamscapes of the city's people. Not even the real, physical books were a surprise. Others might have been fooled by the wealth all that paper represented, but I could tell the truth from the smell. Rather than true paper, they were all synthetic, made from the materializer. Even so, all of it still felt like an enormous waste.

"All year you've had me stand in front of this house," I continued my complaint in response to Nate's grunt. "What can be so bad I can't even meet the ward here? How am I supposed to learn if I can't even go inside?" I looked left and right, into the darkness of the paper corridors. This place was a maze. At least I had been brave enough to rush after Nate right away. Without him to guide me, I would never find my way.

Under grunts and pants, Nate made his way through the corridor and into a crossroads, just wide enough for him to turn and stare at me. For a while, we had a silent duel, but my will stayed firm. I wouldn't give in, not again. This time, I would do my job as a proper caretaker. Nate couldn't coddle me forever.

"Fine," my co-worker sighed. "If we argue here we'll only upset Ms. Lector. So you're off the hook for now. You can come along, just... be careful and don't touch anything."

Even though Nate still stared me down, a giddy jolt rushed through my body. At last I could meet the mysterious Ms. Lector whose presence had eluded me for months. With a silly grin splayed all over my face, I bounded over to Nate, focused on the books around me.

"Slow!" a panicked voice hissed at me, so I looked up at Nate. Only now did I realize that his face was pale as a sheet. "What are you doing? I told you to be careful."

"Sure, Nate." My eyes rolled as I squeezed my way past my colleague. Beyond my mountainous companion I found another two long corridors and a set of stairs to lead us up above. "So where to now?"

"It's up the stairs. Be careful though. Don't touch the books."

"Right," I said. Of course I understood Nate's worry. If I moved the books, there was always a chance the entire stack could collapse. We might end up buried alive and the birds couldn't enter the houses to save us. So I took a step into a corridor before I motioned my partner to move ahead. He knew the way, and knew the ward. It wouldn't be the best if Ms. Lector first saw me, someone she had never met before. With nothing but a grunt, Nate squeezed past me and trundled up.

For a while we walked in silence, until something caught my eye. On top of a short book stack sat a novel titled 'Enlightened'. I knew this one. It was one of my grandma's. Oh neat, I thought and decided to pick it up. Since the book sat on top, there was no danger of collapse, was there?

"Stop, dammit!" Nate's shout made the fake paper around us rumble. My foot slipped from the step and my hand stretched to the precarious pile of books to my side. Only inches before my trembling fingers touched the paper walls, my toes caught the lower step, and with it the rest of my body.

Again we stared at each other, Nate's eyes large in horror. After a few seconds, the swaying books around us settled back into place. Not even the home owner showed any reaction, so my heartbeat calmed again.

"What?" I whispered with a frown. "Why'd you scream like that? I almost fell, and the book isn't gonna hurt anyone. It's just lying there. Nothing's gonna fall."

"I know what you're thinking," the gruff voice whispered back, always the mind reader, "but this place is made of more than just books. There's traps everywhere!"

"What?" I hissed back. "What do you mean traps? Like an adventure game?"

"I told you not to touch anything. The owner, Ms. Lector, has placed traps all over her bookshelves in case anyone tries to take them."

"Who would expect traps from just that? What kind of maniac would-" before I could finish my sentence, I caught myself. My hands covered my mouth as I stared at Nate in shock. Insults against the wards were the worst offense I could commit before the dutiful caretaker. However, rather than scold me like he usually did, Nate just frowned.

"Just stay behind me, keep quiet and don't touch anything." And with that, Nate turned and marched ahead again. His silence hurt more than his usual scolding. This time I followed with weary steps, but my boss still glanced behind every three steps. Though the tension between us increased further and further, soon we reached the bedroom of the homeowner. At once, Nate readjusted his attitude as he put on his usual buddy facade.

Meanwhile, I looked around the room itself, careful to not touch anything. Unlike the other rooms, this one was at least barely considered clean. In the corner, I found the expected materializer, which had spewed out all the books for its owner, in exchange for much of her social credit. At least in here, the books only stacked waist high, and there was more room to move around. No wonder, as the room's inhabitant was bound to a wheelchair.

According to the documents, Ms. Lector was a woman in her forties. However, she barely looked human any more. Like many of our wards, she appeared thin like a twig, burned out from her obsessions. Her legs were immobile, but didn't flop down like I had thought. Instead, they were folded up on her chair and scrunched together, intertwined with her arms in an arthritic nightmare. Only her face still seemed mobile, and she used a small monitor to its side to live her entire life. In horror, I watched as Nate began his standard procedure, indifferent to the misery before him.

"And that's your checkup done, Ms. Lector." For how much he talked about the caretaker's code, there were far too many instances where he had forced me to watch as people just died from his neglect. In that regard, I could never understand Nate's so-called 'respect' for the freedom of our wards. To me, this inaction was nothing more than sloth. For many of these people, a real, human connection would achieve much more than robotic nods and standard procedures. Thus, I did what I had rarely done before. I disobeyed.

"Ms. Lector. I saw that you've read Enlightened."

When I stepped forward, I could see Nate move in my periphery, but I was focused on my ward alone. Although the crippled body didn't move, the dim, gray eyes also focused on me in turn.

"A. R. Rovis was my grandmother, you know? It's great to see that there are still people out there who enjoy her writing." I tried to put on my warmest smile. It ignited a tiny, almost invisible flame within those dull eyes.

"Who are you?" a raspy voice echoed from her dry throat.

"My name is Brayden Rovis, Ma'am. Unfortunately, I have none of my grandmother's talents, but I always loved her books."

"A. R. Rovis was a good writer. Her themes always had a weight most others lack today."

Encouraged by the ward's reception, I took another step forward.

"You know, if you like her books, I can bring you some," I urged. "I actually have the real ones at home."

True shock entered Ms. Lector's apathetic eyes. "Really?" she asked in a whisper.

"Yeah, it's real paper, too. They're in my room, to make sure nothing happens to them. We also have some handwritten manuscripts, but those are in lockup."

"I would love to see them only once, more than anything."

"You can. It's easy," I grinned.

Wasn't this a great first step? A real human connection? Maybe like this, I could convince Ms. Lector to leave her house and get her arthritic body cured. However, our ward responded with a hollow laugh.

"Not with my body. I can hardly see, I can no longer walk. In my state, how could I ever make it through the city and appreciate those rare pieces?"

Sadness filled her voice, but to me it sounded sweeter than any laughter. This was real emotion, real desire beyond the prison Ms. Lector had built for herself. Just one more push and I could save her!

"That's not a problem, is it? Just call on a clinic and request a pick-up. I can stay around until the-"

"No!" While I froze in confusion at the outburst, a dry cough overcame my ward. Things had been going so well. What happened?

"No doctors. I've read. I know. No tests. No probes. They'll only take out my eyes! How will I read without eyes?"

Confused, the woman begged to be spared. Still, I couldn't give up now.

"They won't. Ma'am, if you want to read my grandmother's-"

"Excuse us." With a rude tone and a rough hand, Nate barged into the conversation and shoved me out the door. "Ms. Lector, I am very sorry about Brayden. He is still in training. Please have a pleasant day."

When Nate followed me outside, I wanted to argue, but his stern eyes shut me up. This time, he wouldn't even let me walk ahead, and instead decided to take the front again. Every time he looked back, my mood soured.

How could he know that I couldn't have convinced Ms. Lector in the end? If he wasn't so paranoid all the time, if he was willing to push just a bit harder, how many of these poor souls could have been saved? Although he always said not to disturb the peace of the wards, where was the peace for a miserable existence like Ms. Lector's?

At the foot of the stairs, Nate turned again to look at me like a disappointed parent, as if I would run back at any moment. And then it happened. With large eyes I saw how Nate's foot slipped on the lowest step. Before he realized what had happened, he had already stumbled halfway across the room.

"Careful!" My shout was as pointless as it was late, and Nate's hands found balance on the stack of books by the entrance. Like a child in front of his first school, Nate stared up at the towering books. Whether or not he had activated a trap, the entire stack began to sway back and forth. With a sluggish inevitability, the stack leaned farther and farther, dragged to the side by its own weight, soon to bury Nate beneath mountains of synthetic paper.

A terror ran through my entire body as everything around me slowed to a crawl. While my mind was frozen solid, my body reacted all on its own. My feet shot off the steps and launched me halfway down the stairs, faster than I had ever moved before. A single leap and I was across the room, leaned against the crooked stack, while Nate still stood there paralyzed. As soon as my hands touched the paper, I could feel my weakness. I wasn't strong enough! Several tons of synthetic paper had been stacked together. How could I ever hold them by myself?

Though my muscles quivered, the paper buckled more and more. As my heart escaped into my stomach, I looked to Nate for rescue. My former caretaker just stood there with big eyes, no use to anyone. My view returned to the book shelves right before me. Since I couldn't rely on anyone else, I would rely on myself.

And then, a miracle happened to save us both: Somehow, from somewhere, my body pulled a strength far beyond me. A strange power shot into my veins to fill me with strength. Above, the stack shifted and buckled, before I forced the unwilling paper back into its original position.

Drenched in sweat I turned to Nate, who stumbled out of the house, and back into the sunlight. For a second I took in the claustrophobic maze of knowledge, and the few loose books on the ground who still waited on all their brothers to follow. Soon however, I returned to my senses and followed Nate out into the city.

"That was close," I said as I wiped the cold sweat off my forehead.

"What were you doing in there!?" Nate screamed at me out of nowhere.

"What do you mean what was I doing? I saved your damn life, man!"

"No, not that! When you talked to the Ms. Lector! I would have never tripped if I didn't have to keep an eye out for you all the time!"

Even though his excuse was more than just a bit unfair, I would much rather focus on the actual core of our conflict. It was important to be open about our misgivings, otherwise nothing would ever be resolved. Nate taught me that.

"I've been a caretaker for almost a year now and all I've done is watch you work. How am I ever gonna get any better if you never let me do anything?"

"That's not how this works, Brayden! You can't just invade people's personal space like that! Ms. Lector has a hard time as is! You need to be delicate or you'll make things worse!"

"How much worse can Ms. Lector possibly get!? If we don't push her a bit, she will just rot away!"

At first it looked like Nate would just push back stronger, but instead he held his breath. Once he released it with a sigh, it appeared like he had cooled off and aged a decade in the process. Suddenly, I felt bad about my outburst. I had known Nate for years, and I knew what kind of man he was. He always just wanted the best for me, and I repaid him with nothing but entitlement.

"Brayden," he said at last. "I know I've not been forthright with you, but please try to understand me. I'm worried. Not only about the wards, but also about you. I'm sure you'll be a great caretaker, but you don't want to get involved too deeply. So far, you haven't seen what sort of stuff goes on in the City Council. Believe me, you don't want to do to well and get promoted. Recently, the boss has asked some questions about your performance. I'd rather you just stay an anonymous cog than-"

Before he could finish, Nate's phone interrupted his explanation. As the caretaker read the new message, his eyes widened.

"Ah, shoot. Looks like there's an emergency at Carlos' place."

"Mr. Oraya? What happened?" I was worried, maybe more than I should have been. After all, even though Nate always stressed how the wards came first, he also talked about the importance of distance. Still, over our past visits, the haggard painter with the peculiar temper had grown on me.

"The old idiot's been drinking paint for no goddamn reason," the caretaker frowned, in spite of his own advice.

"What? Why would he do that?"

"How would I know? Anyways, as his official wardens, we have to show up there, give a statement for the clinic. Let's just hope he's fine. I hate this part of the job," he mumbled more to himself.

"But... what about the rest of our route? It's almost evening and we still have one more place to visit. There is no way we can get this done on time."

If there was one thing I had learned in my first year, it was to avoid tardiness. Whenever we failed to finish our schedule, we would be deducted part of our monthly allowance, with no warnings. Nate looked conflicted as well, torn between his responsibility towards his ward and the one towards me. This time, I had to make the choice for him.

"It's fine, Nate. Go look after Mr. Oraya, I got the last one for the day."

For a long while, he stared into my smile, before a curt "you sure?" showed the full extent of his distrust. Still, this was the best solution for us. Maybe like this, Nate would relent and finally let me do a job by myself.

"Yeah, you should really go to Mr. Oraya. It sounds serious, and I want him to be fine too. After all, he was my first ward."

With another deep sigh, Nate thought again, before his phone rang a second time. Without a single look, we both knew what the message was about.

"...alright, guess here's your chance to prove yourself. At least the last ward seems like a mild case. It's only a registration, so you should just have them fill out the basic form and leave right away. I'm serious, stay on protocol and don't try too hard to fix everything. Our work takes time, even more so with new wards."

"I'll just do my job, nothing more." Even though I didn't mean it, at this point I would say anything to get some hands-on experience. "Call me when you know more about Mr. Oraya."

"Will do. You can take the cab over and then sign it off when you're done."

"Wait, the cab? What about you?"

"It's only three streets away from here. I'll walk over and take the bus home."

For the third time, Nate's phone rang. Although the sound was the same, it felt much more urgent than before.

"Anyways, gotta run. Good luck, buddy. Do your best." After Nate had thrown his last well-wishes over his shoulder, he ran down the empty street. Had I known what would happen next, I would have said something. Our past selves are always so carefree.

Unaware of future regrets, I found the silvery gleam of the cab ready and waiting for me.

"Finally!" I called out in relief. Of course, I was grateful for Nate's help. Throughout the year, he had done his best to shield me from danger and answered all of my beginner questions. Still, I wasn't allowed to do anything under his watch. Rather than his trainee, Nate had treated me like one of his wards. This was my chance to prove myself. With swagger, I grabbed my permit and slid it across the cab door.

A few seconds of nothing and I began to get nervous. I had never even opened the cab, so I thought that swiping the permit in its vague direction would be enough.

*Don't panic.*

An examination revealed a found a slight, rectangular indentation towards the door's top. This time, I made sure to abandon the confident flourish from before and stared swiped with a slow motion. The light beep from the door made me recoil in terror. Before anyone could witness my embarrassment, I hid inside the vehicle.

As my heart calmed from the excitement, I looked at my phone, at the documents for my first solo ward.

*Sophie Rayne. 19 Years old. Recommendation as teacher. Scheduled to continue studies. Depression. Address...*

"Please bring me to Sunlight Boulevard. Erm... Acacia Alley. House number is 47."

"Sunlight Boulevard. Acacia Alley 47. Now driving."

"...thank you," I whispered to the machine.

The mundane shatters with a single touch.

Nate
It's sadly back to school after the week is over, but there are MANY things going around. As I ponder through the halls each passing period there's a bunch of murmurs. Not the first time... As Xavier, Mina, and I enter the cafeteria during lunchtime, the murmurs are twice as loud. Maybe it isn't even murmuring at this point. "So childish... Keep talking everyone, it's not like it'll get you somewhere in life. Whatever it is you're taking about is most likely not true. Go get a life." I say. I make my way to Brooklyn's table. She stands up and we share a kiss. One longer than the last. As we kiss, everyone gasps and takes out their phones. Not surprising. Almost nothing is at this point. It's like we're living in a book, or a movie. I take a seat and so does Xavier and Mina. "Did you find out what it is yet?" I ask Brooklyn. "People are saying that you got Mina pregnant... Nate..." She says. "Ok that is NOT fair! When I'm on my period and I just get bloated." Mina explains. "I hear my name as well, what do I have in this?" Xavier asks. "They think that you're dealing with Nate." Brooklyn answers. I've gotten through something close to this, but now I'm the cause of TWO problems that are extremely false. There wouldn't be a day in hell where I'd sleep with a girl like Mina. 

Brooklyn
This hurts... Having to look like another one of Nate Miller's hook up victims. But I know I'm not. I'm not even myself without Nate. These past few days I've been the closest I've ever been with Nate. I'd hate for that to slip away so easily. To the side, Xavier and Mina are fighting again, til Mina storms out.
We are all at Xavier and Mina's place trying to think of a plan. Mina is in her pajamas in her room, while the rest of us are at the kitchen area. Nate is sitting at the counter, Xaviers on the couch watching TV, and so Is Zayne. I don't know where the hell Alice is, but it's usual for her to skip. I'm pacing back in forth between the living room and kitchen panicking. "This is horrible. This is just— Just TERRIBLE." I stop for a second. "Ok, calm your heels down before I break your glasses. It's not the end of all of us." Xavier points out. "There's no way to fix this. No LOGICAL way at least." I say. "Well, There HAS to be." Nate says. "Well, Brookie does have a point there." Xavier says. "There is a way if you could maybe use your mind, Brooklyn. There's a reason why people call you the brains." Nate says. "Why can you just be on my side here?" I ask, walking towards Nate. "Brooklyn is right, Nate. We can't tell people it's not true cause it's not like they'll even listen." Xavier reasons, starting to switch channels.  "See, why can't you stand with me like Xavier?" I ask, sitting on the seat next to Nate. "Ok, well Brooklyn. Why don't you just go date Xavier then huh?" Nate says. "Brooklyn, What has gotten into you? Let's just go and calm Mina down, ok?" Nate quickly adds. "Well why don't YOU date Mina? Always in and out of relationships, right?" My tone seems way harsh than I intended. "If that's the game you wanna play, I don't wanna be in it." Nate gets up and goes into Mina's room. "That was a scene." Zayne says, shoving his face with popcorn. "At this point I don't even know if we're together..." I confess, laying my head down on the counter. "So what if you aren't?" Zayne adds. "I like Nate. He makes me feel different in many ways when I'm with him." I say, feeling guilty of the words that had to come out of my mouth talking to Nate. I wish I could just find the source to what made me say it... Wait, a source! "Guys. I have an idea." I say, rushing over to the boys on the couch. "Well go tell Nate and Mina!" Zayne says, he seems very exited.
I walk into Mina's room and... They don't notice me come in. It looks like he's pulling away from a kiss. "God, I'm so glad you're here for me, Nate." Mina says. "I always am, you're more than a friend to me.. You're like my-" 
"Oh my god Nate. In and out of relationships, like always." I say and storm out of the room. "Brooklyn, wait!" He chases after me. I go to the living room as Xavier gets up and goes in Mina's room. "I should have known better than to ever be with you." I cry. 
"Brooklyn, you're overreacting." He says in a harsh tone.
"Well then why did you replace me so quickly, huh?" I ask, crossing my arms in denial.
"What? Brook, I would never replace you!" He puts both his hands on my shoulders. 
"Well then why did you?? I saw you with Mina in her room..." I confess. I'm just so heartbroken right now...
"Ugh, Brooklyn, Mina and I were just talking. Before YOU interrupted, I was gonna tell her she was like a sister to me. I was only trying to help. Now trust me when I say this. It's your choice to believe me, or not." He reasons. I love him... So I make my decision.
"I do. Only because I really like you Nate. And my biggest fear is losing you." I say. He pulls me in for a hug. As we hug, he wraps his arms around my waist. 

Xavier
"Care to tell me anything?" I ask. "What do you think, Xavier?" She says. Her face being solemn as she gives me a pretty cold stare. It's funny seeing her mad sometimes. It's almost cute. "Look, if you could maybe listen to Brook instead of stealing her boyfriend, we can get you out of this," I say. "Speaking by the silence, I'm pretty positive that Nate killed Brooklyn, Brooklyn dumped his ass, or they made up." I get up from sitting on the bed with her, and put a hand out. "Come on." I say. She takes my hand and I get her out of bed. We come out to Nate and Brooklyn hugging. A good sign. "So you all are cool, great. Now what's the plan big brain?" I ask Brooklyn.
"We all need to do some digging. We find the source to this all and maybe dig deep down on them by some relations with other people knowing people and so on. When we find dirt, we use it against them to forfeit." Brooklyn explains, standing in front of Nate, his arms around her waist. I'll say, I'm not against this couple. 

Mina
We all go to the library and do some digging. I walk in on Nate and Brooklyn making out, great way to third wheel as soon as you get in. "Oh my god, Really? We're you two just-"
"Yes, we were, now let's just um, wait for Xavier." Brooklyn clears her throat. I hear a door open behind me and it's Xavier. We all take our seats and start. "Wait, who else would have known about Nate and Mina from vacation..?" Brooklyn asks. "There's Zayne and Alice, who never showed up." Xavier points out. "And maybe she put that all up because she always sees me with Zayne." I say. "Well, we have our culprit. But how does she know about Me and Nina in the room?" Nate asks. "I called Alice," Brooklyn confesses. Great. "I told her about you and Mina, but I never knew she'd go this far with it... I'm so sorry, to the both of you." She apologizes. "Cases solved, but what now?" Xavier asks. 
"We hunt her down." Brooklyn simply says, leaning a bit more toward.

Once Ben came back he shared the good news with the rest of the group.  "I have Georgia's location!" Ben exclaimed.
"Geez, I haven't seen you this happy in a long time," Nena recalled.
Melody and Nate entered the room.  Melody was carrying a picture book called "And Tango Makes Three" by Peter Parnell and Justin Richardson.  "Who's Georgia?" Melody asked.
"My girlfriend," Ben answered.
Nate looked at Ben and noticed something different about him.  "Wait, I thought you were a kid," Nate said.
"You see, I grew up to what I would be if I wasn't in Bacton," Ben educated.  Nate looked confused.  "Basically this is what I would look like in our present time, 1989, but before I entered the portal I was taking the form of me from 1938."  Nate still looked confused, but he just went with it.
"You are starting to sound like me," Mx. Armstrong said.
"Is that a good thing?" Ben asked.
"I think so," Mx. Armstrong said.
"Anyways, I am going to Mr. Waags' office to watch this VHS," Ben revealed an VHS that is in his hand.
"Is that the thing that's supposed to show us Georgia's location?" Shara asked.
"Yes," Ben answered.

Melody, Nate, Mx. Armstrong, Freddie, The Boss, Ben, Nena, Jane and Shara Erskine were gathered around a flat screen TV.  Ben inserted the VHS into the TV.  Then all of a sudden bursting from the TV came a familiar sound...

"That son of a liar!!!" Ben shouted.  "She told me that the stupid VHS she gave me would tell me where Georgia is located, but no, instead it showed us Never Gonna Give You Up!"

"Yeah, but I don't want a stupid 'Rick-Roll,' I want Georgia!!!!" Ben ranted.
Melody looked frightened, "is there something I can do to make you feel better?"
"I think it's best if you two just leave the room," Freddie suggested.  So Melody and Nate walked out of the headquarters and into the valleys beyond.  

After 10 minutes of travelling Melody and Nate decided to rest under a tree.  Melody started to read And Tango Makes Three.  "How's the book so far?" Nate questioned.
"It's awesome! I never read a book that featured a same-sex couple before," Melody said.
Nate looked at a cave that was in front of them, "Do you want to go in there?"
Melody looked inside the cave, it looked dark, spooky, and big.  "I don't know, what if we get lost."
"Don't worry, our journey won't be like the one in Tom Sawyer," Nate reassured.
"Sorry, but I haven't read Tom Sawyer before, so I don't get the reference," Melody said.
"Oh, basically his girlfriend got lost in a cave," Nate explained.
Melody's eyebrows were raised.  Girlfriend, this made Melody curious of whether or not Nate liked her.  "Nate, do you like me?"
"Yes, I do like you Melody," Nate said, "almost everybody in our class does."  
Melody looked down at the ground.  "I like you too," Melody blushes.  "So you promise I won't get lost in there?"
"I promise till the end of time that nothing bad will happen to you," Nate reassured, "and that we will be together forever, and I will never desert you."
"Good.  Last one in the cave is a rotten egg!" Melody started to run into the cave.  Melody eventually made it inside the cave, while Nate came in second.  They started walking down a long dark tunnel filled with rocks.  Crystals glowed in the darkness of the cave.
"So," Nate started, "do you want to start dating?"
Melody looked at him, "sure."
"What do you think is in this cave?" Nate asked.
"Probably some pretty gems, like the ones on the walls," Melody guessed.  

After a while they were at the end of the cave, where a sword was being displayed on the wall.  "You should go over there and get that sword," Melody suggested.
"No way, why not you do it," Nate said.
"But I don't want to," Melody said, "and you deserve it."
"Why do you think I deserve it? You won that art contest."
"But I heard you got the second highest mark in class," Melody recalled.
"And who got the highest mark?" Nate questioned.
"Me."  Melody looked down at the ground, "but I am afraid I will knock it down and hurt myself," Melody murmured, "so maybe you can grab it and I can carry it?"
"Deal!" Nate ran over to the sword and carefully took it off the wall.  All of a sudden Nate's veins became black and Nate let out a piercing scream.  Melody looked terrified as Nate screamed in pain.
"Let it go!" Melody yelled.
"I CAN'T!!!" Nate screamed.  Eventually a suit of armour was summoned onto Nate's body and he grew six feet tall.
Melody started to cry, "what happened to you?"
"I came back, that's what," Nate said with a bit of sass in his tone.
"But what happened to Nate that was here a few seconds ago, this is not the Nate I know," Melody sobbed.
"I am not Nate, I am the Creator!" Nate said.
"You don't remind me of God, you remind me of the Devil," Melody screamed.
Nate held his sword towards the exit of the cave, which seemed tiny since they were so far away from it.  "I am so sorry, but I have to leave you here."
"What do you mean, you said you were never gonna..." Melody then remembered that this was not Nate, this was "the Creator."
"Whatever, I hope someone finds you."  Nate then flew towards the exit.  The wind summoned by his flight caused the walls to crash behind him (because you know, physics).  

Melody started to cry, she was trapped here forever, just like Nate said won't happen.  She sat against a wall and covered her face as tears poured out of her eyes.  He said he was never gonna give her up, he said he was never gonna let her down, he said he was never gonna fly away and desert her, he said he was never gonna make her cry, he said he was never gonna say goodbye, and most importantly, he said he was never gonna hurt her.

The morning began with "Rise and Shine". As usual, I got ready for college in casual wears.

The phone ringing.

" Hi, Samantha, did you get ready for the college?" I vocalized.

"Abi. Bitch. Get your ass out of the house", Samantha howled with all her strength.

"Relax I am arriving at the path", I vocalized again.

" Stop that fucking vocalization. It's irking", She barked loudly.

"Hehe, bye", I hung back.

I ran down the stairs. "Moooommm, I am leaving, bye", I rushed out like a superwoman.

" Abii, wait for...", The voice vanished.

" Apology for making you wait", I pleaded.

We arrived in the class. I got bumped into- 

"Ouch, Dude watches out your way", I said caressing my forehead.

Mr. Tyler Morrison. He always comes into my directions and gives rise to consequences. 

"Apologies for the cause", He said cockily and took off.

" He is such a "cocky little bastard", I furiously said to Blaire.

" Chuck it", She said in disdain and took her seat.

The professor came to the class. Each and everyone wished good morning. 

"The test results, are here. The students seemed to have vomited their nonsense in the paper", He fierce. 

The students mumbled with each other.

" Silence. There are exceptional students who scored fair enough and good marks". He said happily.

The professor began distributing the test sheets by calling out their names. How much I would have scored. I am clueless. By examining the professor's facial expressions, the person who scored low he had to displeased expression. The person who scored high he had pleased expression. He changed his facial expressions like the way I change my book pages.

"Blaire, you scored the highest in the class", He delighted. Everybody applauded.

" Abigail, you scored the second-highest in the class", He said. "As a new student, you have great potential in studies", He delightfully said. Everybody applauded except Richa and some of Tyler's butterflies.

Samantha and Gianna scored fair enough. Nate scored low. Tyler too scored low. Huh, he should work hard in his studies. 

" So students, here I end our lecture. And for your information, your exams will be held after two months. Be prepared yourself and party less", He declared and turned out.

The lectures got over. We left for the cafeteria. We sat at our regular place. We are chatting and Nate appeared and sat next to me. This moment grabbed the interest of each and every not so single girls.

"Hi, looking beauty", He said in smile.

" Thank you. Actually, you are looking the equivalent to me", I said and looked beside me.

"So, you will be coming right", He asked and smirked.

Urgh! He is so cheesy, my subconsciousness screamed in dislike.

" Abi", 

" Yes. I will be there", I said without hesitation.

"Okay, then beautiful girls", He said and went to Ethan.

All the girls in the cafeteria were stunned and might have been cursing on me. They stared at me for at least two seconds. Just analyzing and whimpering with each other. But I am very strong. I don't give a shit to you(girls).

" Abi what you will be gifting to Nate?", Gianna asked.

"I already bought a gift for him", I said in proud.

" What? But what is the gift?", Samantha asked eagerly.

"You will get to know at the party", I said and took a bit of chicken sandwich. 

" But-"

"Let it be, Gianna we can have a close watch in the party", Blaire convinced her.

But Nate's interaction with me was not only for today. It continued like Day two, Day three... As the days were flying. Nate was putting more and more effort to convince me. Finally, the day arrived.

" Happy Birthday Nate", I typed a text to him without any emojis. To be honest, I am very bad at playing with emojis.

"Thank you beautiful 😘", He replied within a second.

Everything was ordinary. The lectures, Richa's unreasonable grudge, Tyler's stare, and my besties talk. We were in the direction of our favorite place. Obvio, " The Cafeteria".

"Oh, my fuck. I forgot my library book in the class. I need to go back and take it. You all wait for me in the cafeteria at our ordinary spot. Blaire does place an order for me", I said in hurried.

" Which?" She asked.

"Grilled chicken breast", I said and fled.

I will just go and get my book, then I will peacefully my food.  If I lose the book that bloody librarian will go to lecture me till I die.

Oh. My. Fucking. Are you serious? This is an empty class. You are not allowed to show how slimeball you are. This guy is really smooching her. He slammed his lips into her lips. She reciprocated by partying her lips. He slide his tongue into her mouth and she moaned. He grabbed her waist and pulled her close. Very close. Unhurriedly she loses herself in him. The guy gently kept his hand on her boobs and began massaging it carefully. I stepped into the class. He watched me from the corner of his eyes. I took my book and turned around.

" Continue your exercise to burn calories", I made a sarcastic remark and left.

I reached the cafeteria and took my seat.

"Abi Nate invited us for his bday party today.", Gianna said excitedly.

" So", I said bursting her bubbles and eating my food.

"It's like official invitation cards for us", Samantha added on.

I nodded. I went to the trash can to throw the garbage. 

" Abigail Carton." The smooching called my name.

"How do you know my name?" I asked and raised my brow.

"Everybody knew about you. Hope to meet you again. See you.", He said and went to another girl.

You know me as if I care. He was widely flirting with her and touching her inappropriately. The girl is enjoying and flushing. Such an asshole bastard he is.

My phone rang. It's a message. Message from my mom. She wrote:
"Abi, your dad left for Los Angeles for work". 
" Okay," I replied instantly.

I reached home, took my shower and begin to dress well for Nate's birthday party. I will be wearing the silver shining shirred dress, which will not bother to cover my knees. I applied elegant makeup to the party to make me look sober, not a hoe. I combed my hair and put curls at the edge of the hair. I wore Ice glass slipper, It has a transparent glass, translucent black strap, a chunky and four-inch lucite heel. I am ready to go. One thing is left lavishly grey moto jacket and oval clutch it has starstruck glitter but in gold color. I looked at the mirror. You look stunning Abi, my inner subconscious complimented. I stepped out of the house and my friend Blaire and Gianna complimented me. Even I return the same to them. 

"Where Is Samantha?" I questioned.

"She is coming in a minute", Gianna said looking at the car driving near us.

It was Samantha. She got a new BMW car.  What a surprise? Her father gave her a gift. She asked her to sit in the car and warned Gianna not to be clumsy. We were energetic and enthusiastic all the way. We arrived at Nate's big fat house. We entered together and everybody stared at us.

I was looking for Nate but got to see the irrelevant guy. None other than "The smooching guy". Oh my, Jesus, he has no humiliation. Firstly, he was smooching a girl in the class. Secondly, flirting in the cafeteria. Thirdly, now duplicating the same incident of an empty class with this new girl. God knows how Nate can invite such jerks. I watched Nate wore a navy blue sherpa collar and full zip closure jacket and black tee inside along with black ripped jeans and Nike air for shoes in wheat color.

We greeted each other and handed a gift to him. He unwrapped the gift and was amused to see the Sony PS limited edition. 

" Attention, please", He said in loud. "Thank you for attending the party. I am glad to have you all here. But mostly I am pleased to see the person who is close to my heart. So...", He paused and turned around to me and said.

" Abi, I love you. Will, you be my girlfriend ", He proposed to me on his knees. 

"Haa....", Everyone presented in the party was stunned and unlike them, I too reacted the same.

The room is an open floor plan with hardwood floors right across from the door is a big window. Next to that is large bookshelves with hundreds of books, on the other side of the room are more shelves with every kind of herb there are.  All of them labeled in order to be able to find what you are looking for. In the middle of the room is a great big table full of more books and other things.

Renee then walks over to the table and grabs a book that was laying open and started reading it. She then gets some hubs and the tea and mixes it all together, she then says are you sure about this Eric?

I don't take any time in my thoughts to answer her. Yes with every single fiber in my body I want to help her.

Ok then come on and drink the tea and let's get started. I walk over to her and pick up the cup of tea it smells awful, but I am a big boy and drink the dame thing anyway. As soon as it starts to hit my stomach I regret drinking it I'm in so much pain I can't think. Nate is yelling and is in pain as well. Renée then grabs my hand and pulls the silver blade across it which sets it on fire Instantly. Blood is pouring like a river out of my hand which is kind of scary because I don't bleed that much normally.
Rene hands me a cloth and goes back to reading her book she then grabs a map and pours my blood on it. All of a sudden Renée starts chanting and the room drops to like ten degrees and it Is freezing. That's saying a lot because wolves don't get cold.  The wind is blowing so hard that the windows and shelves are rattling like they are about to come apart. Chasity has a look of terror on her face. The fear   is so bad I can smell it across the room. I think to myself self what have I done. Nate Smart ass says this was a bright idea huh? Jack ass!

Just as fast as it started it's over Reneé hands me a map and says you can find your mate with this anywhere in the world it is magically infused into the map. Just follow the blood trail.
Once we are back outside I tell chastity to look on the map and see if she can find her.
Chasity yelled" I got her"
  Where is she at?
 She is at a motel in a  town about 45 minutes from here. 45 minutes later we get out at the motel and follow her scent up the stairs to the end of the hall in room 209. I walk back around to where I saw a maid walking out of another room.

 I walk up to her and see her name is Nicole 
I politely ask her " can you go to my room and clean it for me.

Sure I can what room are you in?

I am in room  209.

Ok just give me a minute, please? I'll be right there.

Sure thing thank you.

Once she walks off I grab Chasity's hand so we can hide behind the ice machine and wait.
As soon as my mate opens the door me and Chasity run in the room. Charity then proceeds to push the maid at and locks the door. She then turns around and says hi I am chastity. She then turns back to look at the door.
Mate says ow ok I am Nikki and why are you in my room? I walk up to her and say please listen to me you in danger I just want to help you. Can we talk for a little bit? 
The look on her face is one of fear and anger. But she finally says okay but after that, I am out of here and you better not follow me or try finding me again. Do you understand me because next time I'll kill you myself?
Nate yelped out in pain and says, why is are mate so cruel and mad at us? Why does she not want us?

I will break you Nikki and you will be mine for all time. Zek smiles darkly as he walks off and leaves me here in my cell.

I had her then she was lost to us for two years now how do I help her through all she has endured.  Nikki is my mate but will she still want me when she learns what I have done?

Nate's death came as a surprise to everyone.
Not the fact that he died. People die every day, it just happens. But the way he died, and why he died, that's what came off as the biggest surprise.
It all began when they were still young.
Nate was very similar to Karen in many ways. He also would enjoy following his favorite tv shows and spend all day trying to catch up on the latest episodes so he could chat with Karen on the next day what was it that the two of them enjoyed about it.
It wasn't just that the two of them loved each other's company, it was also that they needed each other's company.
Whenever they tried to share their tastes with anyone around them, they would sometimes, not very often get a few looks of curiosity from people genuinely trying to listen as to why they were so obsessed with the things they liked.
Problem was, Karen and Nate were really bad at explaining themselves. You can't deny they were passionate about their hobbies but they probably couldn't put into words why they liked what they liked even if their lives depended on it.
That was a small consequence of their lack of social interaction. When it came to talking with people that weren't either one of them, they just had no idea how to approach them. God forbid they ever got stuck in a mixer, they would probably drive all the attention towards them for all the wrong reasons.
However, that never proved to be a huge problem as at the end of the day they still had each other's company to enjoy.
Of course, they were fine with the current situation, but their parents couldn't stop worrying about it. 
If the situation continued they weren't sure either of the two would be able to survive on their own in the near future.
After all, despite what children were taught at school, it is not the ability to properly do math, geography, or learn all the names of the dead kings from history class that would secure your place in the real world.
The secret to survival is, was, and always will be the ability know how to properly interact with those around you.
Teamwork, communication, patience, observation, these, and many more were the qualities that would prove one was apt to take on a competent role if they ever came across a job that fitted their abilities. Getting work wasn't hard, anyone could get work. Actually making so that they would keep this work and eventually managed to gain access to higher options was the actual issue.
Their parents tried to reinforce that sentiment into their heads the best they could, but it was hard to make someone listen to you when they could not see what the problem was. And of course, they couldn't see the problem, the real danger would only come in the future and the two were living in the present.
They needed to grow up, but they never would if they kept anchoring each other. Thus both fathers and mothers reunited one day and made a proposal to the two at the time younglings.
"One week without interacting with each other?" x 2
Karen was currently twelve years old while Nate was fourteen.
They were reunited at Karen's house and sitting on the kitchen's table and discussing with their parents.
"We felt you two have been relying too much on one another and not trying hard enough to actually learn how to interact with other people."
Said Nate's father, George, with a cold voice. He tried to speak with simple words but Karen was still finding trouble following him.
"Which means... What exactly?"
George looked at Karen's father as if asking if he wanted to explain it to his daughter, but it seemed like he had absolute trust in George's method of handling the situation.
"Karen, you and Nate spend all day together every day right?"
"Y- Yes... Is that bad...?"
"Not at all... Friendship is a virtue and should be treasured, especially nowadays when it's so hard to find true friends..."
"So..."
"But you should know that you won't be able to rely on him for everything, right?"
"..."
"Nate can do many things, and he can do them all really well... But even he has limitations... There will come a day where you two will have a problem that neither will be able to solve... And when the day comes... Who will you rely on?"
Nate tried to argue with his dad despite not looking very brave while doing it.
"W- When that time comes... Can't we just rely on you all?"
"So Nate... Are you planning to live with your parents for the rest of your life?"
"..."
"Let me ask you two one thing... How many friends do you two have besides each other."
Karen was reluctant to answer that question due to not feeling they would like the answer.
"Huh... My class has twenty-seven students right now..."
"I'm not asking how many colleagues you have Karen, I'm asking how many do you consider close to you, how many you can talk to, how many you can rely on when you face a problem."
"..."
Karen could not answer. She barely remembered the names of the people in her class, let alone be able to rely on them during moments of crisis. Most of the other students simply looked at her as if she was some weirdo who wouldn't stop talking about her favorite shows. She wasn't sure how was the situation for Nate, but she assumed it was a similar case.
"That's what I imagined... We want you to know... That we are not angry with you two... Making friends was never easy in the past and it will probably not be easy in the future... People keep finding more and more reasons to stay away from each other every day."
"..."
"But the things is... You two are not even trying... You both keep relying too much on only one person and keep wasting the chance to let other people join your circle."
Karen wasn't sure if she agreed to that. It's true she wasn't popular, but it's not because she wasn't trying. The other kids simply had no desire to approach her for some reason.
"Which is why we will conduct this little experiment."
She honestly didn't want to go on with that conversation but the gazes of her and Nate's parents were making it really hard for her to speak up. She kept feeling she would be in trouble if she showed any sign of disagreement.
"For just one week, we want you two to try and make at least one new friend. Just one."
"... That's all?"
"Making a friend is the most important part but its not all. It will serve to show if you two have what it takes to actually survive among other people n the future."
Karen just could not understand what was so important about the future. Wasn't the future, you know, in the future? Why did they keep talking about it as if it was such a big deal right now?
"What's the other part?"
"You two need to do that by yourselves."
"What!?" x 2
You can't talk to each other, see each other, call each other, text each other, basically, any form of interaction is off the table.
"Why!!??" x 2
"So you can stop holding each other down. When was the last time you two did anything without the other by your side?"
"..."
George noticed the looks on their faces as if someone just told them that Santa Claus didn't exist.
"Don't worry... It's just one week. If this doesn't work we will just try something else."
Karen still wasn't feeling very comfortable with the idea of being separated from Nate. He was the only one who truly understood her and cared about her. If she had to spend a whole week without her, she would probably end up exploding.
"Can you not do it?"
"..."
Karen wanted to reject the idea but Nate proceeded to speak before her.
"Just one week?"
"!!??"
"Correct, just one week."
Karen forgot that George was Nate's father. Even if she could try and speak up against him, there is no way Nate could disobey his father.
"I can do it."
"..."
George looked at her awaiting her answer.
"What about you Karen?"
"... I- I'll try..."
George stood up form the table and gazed upon the two kids.
"Trying is a good start."
And thus, begins Karen's little trial. She had to spend one week without Nate and use it to make a new friend, otherwise, Mr. George would come up with probably an even weirder plan for the two of them.
Of course she had no idea how she was going to do that. Asking her to approach other kids was like asking her dad's favorite soccer team to win the championship. It can happen, but be ready to wait a long time for it.
She was standing outside her classroom and observing all her colleagues inside of it and wondering if any of them could be a good candidate to be her new friend.
"Ugh..."
She tried to think of ways to approach them that wouldn't end in the same old result as before, but nothing would come to her mind. She was completely lost as to how to proceed with this.
The only thing she could think of was trying to find someone who looked just as alone as lost as herself.
She tried to search inside the class and spotted one girl with black hair reading a book by herself.
Karen assumed she might have good chances with this one since she was also a fan of reading fiction.
She tried to approach her and made her best effort to not hold a "Please for the love of God be my friend!!" expression on her face.
"H- Hello... What are you reading?"
The girl looked at Karen and for a moment her eyes widened up when she locked into her wild red hair.
"Huh... It's a history book... We are about to have history class soon so I'm revising the subject..."
And her big plans were already ruined. This girl wasn't reading a work of fiction she was trying to study. Karen started to flare her face with the color red with her embarrassment and was ready to run away from there.
"Do you need help with the history lessons?"
But before she could, the girl gave her an idea that she could use to save the situation.
"Yes!!!!"
"!!??"
"I mean... Yes, please... I would like your help with the lesson..."
"S- Sure... But please don't yell again..."
"OK..."
Karen grabbed a chair and sit next to the black-haired girl.
"I'm Karen... Nice to meet you..."
"... I know... We have been in the same class for the last few months..."
"Oh..."
Karen once again was drenched in embarrassment but the girl seemed to have realized and tried to calm her down.
"Sigh... Nice to meet you... My name is Evlin..."
"Ah!! Nice to meet you Evlin!!"
And that's how Karen's big operation: Make one friend in one week! started.

Karen finally managed to find a solution to the problem that has been bothering her for the last couple of years. She had everything set up and ready to go, but when the time finally came to go forth with it, fate decided to conspire against her.

Obviously not, you already have killed such a being once why should it be near impossible to kill another one?'

Nate was a boy genius who lived his whole life paralyzed. He decided to take a chance with a risky surgery but it seemed at it failed because instead of waking up in the hospital room he found himself laying on a floor in what seems to be the afterlife?

Nate tried to see how much of a strenght he got. He looked around and saw a rock. "System how can I use body manupilation."

Nate tried lifting the rock with his tentacle like arms. He tried his best to lift it but rock didn't move an inch. His hands slipped and he rolled back. He sweared and continue his absorbition journey. He walked for 2 hours until he met a monster. The monster was a rat. " Realy! İs there no normal mosters like a goblin or a wolf. Why rats!" [ System created monsters acording to host's starting stats.]
" Am I that weak. To have rats as my enemies." [Host is currently one of the lowest beasts in this dungeon.] Nate said "Let's just get over it." and attacked the rat. Rat used his claws to block the attack. Nate lifted a stick that is near him and ısed it as a sword. After some vertical slashes he managed to kill it. [23 Exp gained]
