The lady receptionist explained continuously with the same unbothered smile in her lips that made Elise reluctant in cutting her off. And even if she did try to butt in, she was too flabbergasted to do so. The attention to detail and meticulousness of the hotel in their services was too top-notch and overwhelming. 

Who the hell uses scented paper as reservation cards and even sets it with unique magnets? Isn't that just too extra? Elise wondered just how much Dana and Katherine paid for this vacation of hers. She was pretty sure it amounted to quite a hefty sum. Somehow, her anger at the two was slightly appeased. Nevertheless, she couldn't help but worry about her current predicament.

The click of the magnets sticking to each other was so soft that it was barely negligible. Elise heard the sound echoing like thunder in her ears, though. It was like a taunting melody penetrating her soul. The cards match. They really were a pair. 

She turned slowly to the man keeping his silence throughout the whole ordeal. Elise saw that his expression was even darker than the bottom of a pan. If she wasn't the one involved in this, Elise might have laughed heartily at him. She cursed in her mind. Just what did her two friends got her into? Where did they get this reservation?

"Ma'am, sir, as you can see, the cards truly are a pair. However, our hotel admits that it is our oversight to assume that you are already a married couple. And for this we apologize. Are there any more clarifications that you may want to inquire about?" The receptionist politely said. Elise snapped out of her daze and hurriedly voiced out her side.

"We really don't know each other. We just met today. And I certainly don't want to share a room with a stranger. Do you perhaps have other vacancies available?"

Elise held her breath in anticipation of the woman's answer, unaware of the questioning gaze the man at her side was giving her. Nonetheless, Elise was destined to be disappointed. She felt her heart sank when the receptionist shook her head in response.

"I'm sorry, ma'am. Our hotel is fully booked for the entire month until the next. The vacancies we do have are meant for those who availed this exclusive promo."

Her whole being felt weak the moment Elise realized that she truly had no way out of the arrangement. She cursed Dana and Katherine again and vowed to get back at them for this.

"What you are saying is, we don't have any choice but to actually go with the prearrange scheme of the promo? That we have no choice but to share a room? That's just absurd. I don't know this woman. Is it possible to cancel? I'll just leave." A voice tinged with irritation cut through Elise's conversation with the receptionist. 

Elise turned to him and to the lady, a sliver of hope igniting in her heart. If the guy thinks it's absurd to be in a room with her, then even more so for her. Who would to be in the same room with a guy like him? 

"Unfortunately sir, cancelling is impossible. It is written in the terms of agreement and promo policy, it cannot be transferred, refunded, and/or cancelled. The same stipulation can be seen at the back of your reservation cards. Aside from that, the ferry boats are unable to take you away from the island for the ports will be undergoing reconstruction and upgrade. The one that you took today is the last trip."

Elise heart further sank with those words. It seemed that the promo did not leave them any way out. They can't cancel or even leave the island itself. It seems like she was fated to be stuck with a guy she doesn't know for the whole duration of her vacation. What was even more frustrating is the fact the she can't even blame the hotel for it. She could only blame her scheming friends for getting her into this trouble and curse their generations in her heart.

She looked in contemplation at the man. Maybe they could come up with some kind of compromise or agreement. Elise saw him clenching his fist, his fingers digging into his palms roughly. He took out a phone and furiously dialled someone. It didn't take long before he spoke, a scowl imprinting in his face.

"Andreas. Quijano. What the fuck did you do?" He spat out each word against gritted teeth. Elise could feel the rage around him that was being desperately suppressed; probably because the man was still aware that they were in a public location.

'Seems like I wasn't the only that was tricked to go in this damned trip. It seemed that even this handsomely hateful man is in the same situation as me.' Elise thought bitterly.

"Wait—is it handsomely hateful or hatefully handsome? Hmm. Whatever, both apply to him just fine anyway." She unknowingly muttered under her breath. 

Elise seemed unaware of the fact that her mind had wandered far from the focus of the dilemma or that her eyes was glued to the form of the man in the phone pacing about in front of the reception table; even more so of the gaze that the reception lady was emitting. 

If she did, then she would have exclaimed that it was exactly the amused look of someone who was currently watching a married couple bickering amongst themselves.

"mama" panggil olin depan rumah, karena ga ada bel bel an
baru teriak mama mama mama, gilbert langsung muncul dengan tangan penuh makanan yang tahan lama dan tas tas yang isinya super penuh

"oh ada tine juga" mama kaget, tidak biasa tine main kerumah karena kan memang rumahnya tine jauh banget dari rumahnya si mama

"iya tan, tadi nebeng sekalian mau jalan" balas tine
disaat itu olin sedang berbicara dengan adiknya
"ikut ga lu?" tanya olin secara diam diam
"sekuy" balas gilbert antusias dapat ditebaklah ya

ga sampai 10 menit mereka semua pamit pergi, langsung olin tancep gas otw ke tempat makan Ayce di gandaria. percakapan di mobil ga ada faedahnya kalo ga ghibah ya kaga bicara.

tiba tiba tine ngomong sendiri sambil ngescroll ig nya
"anjay mantan gw udah dapet yang baru aje" ucapnya kaget
"lah terus?" tanya olin tidak tertarik
"gw aja belom, cepet banget gila, baru putus 2 bulan udah dapet lagi" puji tine dengan nada sarkastik
"itu namanya skill ci" balas gilbert yang tertarik dengan topiknya
"mang lu ada berapa sih mantannya, ga pernah inget gw, pacar lu aja yg dari awal kuliah sampai akhir kuliah aja gw kaga tau siapa siapa aja, dah lupa" hina olin sambil melihat tine karena masi lampu merah jadi masi aman sambil menaikan sebelah alis yang nyata nya ga naik naik malah membuat wajah olin seperti orang penyakitan

"kek orang penyakitan lu" hina tine sambil tertawa melihat ke tululan olin itu dan dia juga menambahkan "lu mah emang gitu, disaat yang lain sedang pdkt lu doank yang di friendzone nin, pdkt 1.5 tahun kaga jadian malah jadi friendzone yang pada akhirnya malah cowonya jadian ama yang lain" maki tine Sambil mengusap air mata buayanya yang keluar dari ujung matanya karena ngakak

"Welcome to Sweet Treats!" The staff welcomed Hagiwara Eraphie with a vibrant smile and a voice full of energy as she entered her parents' favorite pastry shop, Sweet Treats. 

Since Eraphie had found out her academic ranking this morning, she promised herself to buy a cake to celebrate her success. So, here she was now, looking excited and cannot wait to check out the cakes displayed inside the refrigerated deli cases.

As soon as she approached the deli cases, the mouth-watering aroma of the cakes' sweetness wafted to her nostrils. Her sight then landed upon the perfect arrays of varied caked neatly arranged the glass cases. 

"Aww, so many flavors to choose from! I wonder which one should I get?" Hagiwara Eraphie donned her thinking face on as she contemplated which of those delightful cakes she'd buy for the celebration.

"Why only buy one when you can get two for the price of one?" The staff behind the deli cases said out loud, surprising Hagiwara Eraphie, making her smile from ear to ear because of the good news she heard.

"Really?" Her eyes sparkled like stars on a dark night as she then excitedly scanned each cake. Among the many choices to choose from, she had her eyes on Strawberries and Cream Ice Cream Cake and Red Velvet Ice Cream Cake. 

"Yes! Today, we actually have a promo exclusive only for Skyline Academy Students, arranged by your student council." The Sweet Treats staff was smiling as she disclosed the details to Hagiwara Eraphie.

"Whoa! Council President Shimada perfectly knows how to motivate his fellow students!" Hagiwara Eraphie almost yelled at the delight the promo brought her. 

"Okay, I would like to buy a Strawberries and Cream Ice Cream Cake and Red Velvet Ice Cream Cake, please." Hagiwara Eraphie hurriedly availed of the promo and picked up the two cakes she was eyeing at earlier.

"Sure, young miss!" The staff then took the cakes out of the deli cases, one at a time and then put them inside two separate boxes.

Once the staff was completely done with the preparation of Hagiwara's order, she collected the payment.

"That will be a total of 2000JPY, miss." The staff said as she placed the boxes of cake on the countertop. 

"Here you go!" Hagiwara Eraphie said as she handed her payment to the staff. 

"Thank you!" She added as she received her change and picked the boxes up. 

"You are most welcome, miss!" The staff replied as she assisted her in lifting the boxes. 

"I am going then! I must head home quickly or these ice cream cakes will melt." Hagiwara said as she rushed towards the shop's door. 

"Please be careful, miss!" The staff hurriedly walked towards the door as well and held it open for Hagiwara. 

"Thank you so much!" 

Soon after she got out of the shop, she decided to take the quickest route possible to somehow shorten the duration of her travel back home and as to prevent the ice cream cakes from melting. 

"Aiyo! Who would have thought that I would use this skill for the sake of ice cream cakes?" Hagiwara uttered to herself as she now faced the wall of a seemingly dead-end alley beside the cake shop. 

Since the shortest distance between two places is a straight line, Hagiwara decided to climb up the wall of the alley to get herself to the other side.

But before doing so, she did some warm up first. She began with bending her knees then the stretching of her legs and thighs and she also did some quick jogs in place. She then held the boxes in her right hand so that she can stretch her left shoulder and vice versa.

"Looks like I am good to go!" Hagiwara said out loud as she balanced the boxes of cakes on top of the wall. 

Once she was sure that the boxes were already in a secured position, she moved some few steps back to execute the passe muraille or vertical wall run. Using her forward momentum, Hagiwara gave herself a vertical lift as she took a few quick steps on the wall. She then raised her hands up and grabbed the top of the wall to pull herself up. After a few more seconds of moving upwards, Hagiwara was able to successfully get across the wall of the alley.

'Thud!' She landed safely on her foot and fixed the skirt of her uniform before she took the boxes of cake on the edge of the wall.

"Looks like I need to resume my training or my movements will become dull," Hagiwara mumbled to herself as she now prepared herself to walk away from the alley to get to the train station.

As she marched forward to get out of the alley, she noticed two middle-aged adult males who ganged up against another person. She can't see the person's face clearly because the two men were concealing her view. 


When she was only a few steps away from them, she did not resist the urge to throw a quick glance at them. At that instant, she saw that the person was a girl. But what totally caught her interest, was that the girl was wearing the same uniform as hers. The girl was a student at Skyline Academy just like her! 

Curious to know what the real situation was, she forced herself to move nearer to them. The moment she walked passed them, she inhaled a familiar scent. 

'This scent!' Intuitively, she stopped on her tracks and gave the three people a side glance to check if she knew any of them. The moment her sight fell on the girl wearing the same uniform as hers, her body shivered. 

'Suicidal upper class?' Hagiwara almost dropped the boxes of cakes in her hand when she recognized the person who had her back pressed against the wall. 

Hagiwara was not really a nosy type of person, but she had a strong sense of justice. That was why she did not hesitate to push the two men aside,  grabbed her schoolmate's hand and pulled her out of the corner to save her the second time.

A thousand years ago, in the last years of the Star Ocean Republic, Firefly's antecedent had been the exploration starship of the latest generation.
At that time, the Cultivators of the republic had high hopes for the experimental starship. They had stuffed all the magical equipment of the Star Ocean Imperium, the primeval technologies excavated from relics, and the hope of all the people into the body of the starship that was as round as a whale.
The experimental starship was supposed to have carried out the greatest mission ever. It would set off from the heartland of the civilization of mankind and explore the corners of the universe in search for the worlds lost in the Armageddon Rebellion, which caused the collapse of the Star Ocean Imperium, so that they could rejoin the big family of the Star Ocean Republic and build an even more brilliant, glorious civilization of mankind together!
When the behemothic body of Firefly slid out of the dock in space for the first time, and the ninety-nine engine units in a rhombic distribution emitted the most dazzling blue light at the same time, none of the joyful, cheering Cultivators of the republic, however adept they were at deduction and calculation, could have foreseen the absurd fate of the experimental starship in the future.
The very first official voyage of Firefly was not for exploration and discovery but for hiding and running.
In the long thousand years, Firefly had discovered a lot of Sectors with the powerful probe magical equipment on board at first and received the support of the Cultivators in those worlds.
Countless Cultivators who were unwilling to bend to the rule of the Imperium had carried all their belongings, techniques, and magical equipment into their own starships that were in a myriad of different styles. Then, after simple technical modification, those tiny starships were connected to the main body of Firefly, like the barnacles that were attached to a big ship or a shoal of fish that were swimming together with a blue whale.
The advanced space jump matrix on Firefly could release a special protective membrane that prevented collisions, which should have been very likely when two starships performed a space jump close to each other.
Such a technology enabled the possibility of a hundred starships jumping simultaneously when they were stuck together closely. It also constructed the basic form of Firefly in the hundreds of years that followed.
In its prime, centered around Firefly, almost six hundred starships constituted an enormous group of refugees, with a population of more than five hundred million.
But the good days did not last long. The corpulent structure and the redundant internal control system greatly lowered the combat ability of Firefly. After a few soul-stirring battles, although they luckily escaped from the blockade of the Imperium, the number of starships that made up 'Corporate Firefly' was reduced from more than six hundred to less than three hundred, most of which were empty iron coffins that had lost all the impetus and only managed to stay in the group by the pulling force. The population on board had also plummeted by eighty percent. The society was on the brink of collapse.
Before encountering the Star Glory Federation, Firefly was like a whale that had half rotten. It was drifting with the current in the sea of stars and could not throw away any 'iron coffins' despite knowing that its body was slowly decaying, because in the universe with few available resources, a lot of useful garbage could be dismantled from the scrap starships even if they were already total losses. That way, they could manage to catch their breath for a while longer.
For Firefly and the 'rightful government' of the Star Ocean Republic at that time, what else could they have hoped for except to catch their breath?
Such a starship, or rather, a 'heap' of starships, which had become riddled with holes and rust, certainly required a protracted and arduous project to be maintained. The difficulty and the consumption were no less than to reproduce hundreds of starships.
Thankfully, to a 'bumpkin' living at the edge of the cosmos like the Star Glory Federation, Firefly, being from the center of the cosmos, finally had certain reserved assets that had not been entirely wasted yet.
The government-in-exile exchanged the extraordinary techniques and secret arts from the center of the cosmos for tremendous resources from the Star Glory Federation. Then, a whole area of docks and floating maintenance bases were established in the periphery of the Dragon Snake Space Zone, and the heated maintenance work began.
The government-in-exile even purchased a batch of starships from the Star Glory Federation and connected them to the main body of Firefly after preliminary modification in order to increase the activity zone and improve their quality of life. After all, in space where there was zero gravity and friction, however bizarre-looking those starships were, they would not hinder Firefly's cruising ability.
Therefore, if one looked from the carriers that were shipping resources, Firefly—which was illuminated by the crimson flames of the red giant—did not look like one firefly but an amalgamation of hundreds of fireflies that were surrounded by circular rails, docks, floating ports, and maintenance bases.
Hundreds of carriers were shipping assets to them incessantly. Thousands of times more maintainers were working diligently in the cold vacuum outside of Firefly in their crystal suits, like a group of ants that were struggling hard in the sea of stars.
A seemingly plain carrier without any marks on the shell passed through a circular orbit dock and a starship that had been declared a total loss a long time ago and was ready to be completely dismantled. It then slowly approached the main body of Firefly.
The universal exploration starship had been utterly deformed. Hundreds of communication tubes had been connected to its shell, linking it closely with the other starships around and making it look like a heart from which countless veins and artilleries were extending.
The carrier moved unhurriedly. It entered the inside of Firefly. Countless close-distance defense cannons turned swiftly in various directions. Invisible identification rays were brushing past the newcomer now and then. A hundred fully armed Exos were also floating in the vacuum. The crystal cannons on their shoulders had been unsealed, and starry brilliance was flashing at the end of the barrel. Behind the cold masks of the Exos, sharp eyes seemed to be gazing at the carrier without blinking.
The carrier slid into a secret dock when it was several kilometers away from the 'heart' of Firefly.

The enormous, airtight gate was slowly closed, like an iron giant that had gritted its teeth.
Inside the dock were hundreds of fully armed Exos who were highly vigilant.
They were all the secret police of the Internal Affairs Division of the government-in-exile, who were there to pick up a batch of special 'goods'.
The cabin door at the tail of the carrier was opened, revealing a ladder and a driving belt for cargos.
Part of the members of the 'Election Observation Delegation' were moved down. Some other people, who were deemed more dangerous 'traitors', had been loaded into special confining cases and delivered by the driving belt for cargo.
Few people there did not wear a crystal suit.
They included a middle-aged woman in a black coat. Her face suggested that she was a rigorous person. Her left eye was missing and replaced by three crimson crystal cameras.
She was Cheng Xuansu, the leader of the special investigators of the Internal Affairs Division in the government-in-exile, as well as the commander of the arrest operation.
"Wait!"
When most of the prisoners were escorted to the internal shuttles in the starship and ready to be delivered to the secret jail, Cheng Xuansu suddenly bellowed. The crystal cameras that had been installed on the same round pedestal rotated slowly, releasing bright redness, as she looked at a prisoner who was locked inside a confining box.
It was… Tang Xiaoxing!
"Leader!"
The secret police who were escorting Tang Xiaoxing stood at attention.
Observing Tang Xiaoxing who had fallen asleep carefully, Cheng Xuansu asked, "Repeat the whole process of your arrest exactly as it happened. Such a strengthless refiner escaped from your hands twice?"
"Yes." An officer hesitated for a moment and said, "The first time, we attempted to knock her out with a 'stunning cannonball' in order to capture her, but she was not affected by the stunning cannonball and quietly slipped away. She even set up traps and heavily wounded six of our teammates. The second time, we had already captured her, but a mysterious tactical squad marched out of nowhere and rescued her again. The third time, we pressed our siege with the cooperation of the Chamber of Commerce and resorted to the surveillance cameras of Fish Dragon City. The officer was slightly dazed. "We ran a full scan in Fish Dragon City. There's nothing on her body."
Cheng Xuansu stared at her subordinate.
The officer shivered and breathed hard. "Got it. I'll immediately prepare a sterile room!"
Half an hour later, Cheng Xuansu walked out of the sterile room with a tiny glass jar in her hand. Inside the glass jar lay a scarlet ball that was similar to the color of the skin.
"This is—"
The secret police who were responsible for capturing and escorting Tang Xiaoxing began sweating hard.
"An anti-tracking specialist must be a tracking specialist. How can you not understand such simple logic?"
Frowning, Cheng Xuansu looked at her subordinates.
"I have carefully studied the operation report that you sent back yesterday. The guy who was with Tang Xiaoxing in the beginning was obviously a real expert. The team that ambushed you later was made of well-trained specialists, too. Do you really think that they would give Tang Xiaoxing away so easily when they already had her?"


“Even if this universe is truly nothing more than a brutal, bloody, shadowy forest, we Cultivators will burn all that we have just to give off a single weak flickering spark in the darkness!

Suddenly a very large demon awakened from the wailings of the lesser demons. This demon was larger than a mountain and as soon as he got awakened, all the demons and wandering souls in the area tried to run away but they all got sucked in his mouth which was like a whirlpool.

Suddenly came a voice after which a line golden appeared on the Demon's neck!
The demon instantly exploded from his neck and with it died all the dwellers in the surrounding.

As the destruction calmed down.
There was a figure standing on the remains of the many demons.
The surrounding area was burning fiercely and even the clouds were in flames.
In so much flame, the figure was standing without flinching. His long black hairs were tied in a bun and he was wearing a completely white dress.
His eyes were completely red and if anybody were to stare, they would feel their soul getting lost in a bottomless abyss.
His body was tall and slender and had a fair skin while a wooden stick was in his hands.

'*Good job, Tarun! you have defeated a peak saint level demon with ease after just stepping in the Saint realm yourself not too long ago.*'

Came a voice from a black hawk which was flying behind him.

Tarun, whose face had no expressions just turned around and left without throwing a glance at the hawk.

'*Today is your last day in the hell, how are you feeling? Excited for your trip to the Blazing-Radiant world? *'

Asked the Hawk.
Tarun, at this question stopped, and then started to walk again without giving any answer.

'*You have some guts to ignore Me, the Impaler!*'

Said the Hawk again.

Tarun while ignoring the hawk, went towards a very large castle which was visible from every direction of the hell.
There were many dwellers in his way but they all ran after they saw Tarun! 
The dwellers, who have seen all kinds of torture, actually got scared of Tarun. As Tarun saw them, many started to wither away at a rapid speed which frightened the rest even more.
After slowly and slowly walking towards the castle, He finally reached the gate which opened on their own and when he stepped inside of the castle, a very friendly voice came

"Oh hey Tarun! I see you are back, come come, look what I prepared for you for your fight in the Blazing-Radiant Tournament! A New set of daggers! You like them, right? Hey Dracula, where are you flying, come here and look at these!"

Listening to the person who was obviously Lucifer, the Hawk flew towards him and started to examine the Daggers.

Tarun, on the other hand ignored the daggers completely and went towards the main Hall.
After reaching the main hall, he said with a very low tone

"Let's go"

As soon as he said this, a big large portal appeared in front of Tarun and a bright crystal started burning in his hands

"Hey! Why are you using God stones when I am here?"

Exclaimed The Devil in a very unhappy voice but Tarun ignoring him, stepped inside of the portal.

Behind him, Dracula too flew and in the last, Lucifer also rushed in.

Suddenly the portal closed and in a different world, which was burning even brighter than the sun, a portal opened!
There were Many portal which were opening in that area and hence it didn't stand out that much but One person which was registering the people coming from the portal noticed a golden hue around one of the portal which gave him a huge shock!
He immediately rushed towards that portal and as he reached it, 
A very graceful and handsome man stepped out from it! His hairs were tied in a Bun and he was wearing no rings, had no weapons and instead was wearing a very normal looking white robes.

Many people started to laugh at him as in contrast to him, whoever came to this burning planet was wearing many types of armors, had many rings of different use and had some really sharp and scary weapons.

Many laughed at Tarun but there were some who looked at him with a solemn expression as they noticed the light golden hue coming from his portal.

"Welcome esteemed guest! My name is Siwa. I am the in charge of receiving people from other worlds. May I know what your name is?"

Asked the person who came to receive Tarun.

"Tarun"

Said Tarun with a very low voice.

"Are you here to take part in the Blazing-Radiant Tournament?"

Asked the person very timidly

"Yes"

Replied Tarun with a very low voice again.

Siwa immediately started doing something in his notebook and Tarun started observing this world.
This Blazing-Radiant world was created by the Flame Emperor, Amir Flame and it was always on fire. The flames were only high enough to completely engulf a person's feet but they were not burning anything.

Tarun suddenly spotted a firefly near him and started to walk towards it and extended his hand. But before his hands could reach the firefly, the firefly flew towards Tarun and exploded!

Everyone was startled by the sudden explosion and saw towards Tarun's direction and suddenly many people in red robes also appeared beside Tarun

"Are you okay?"

Tarun nodded to their question before shifting his gaze towards a group of people who were laughing hysterically.

"Damm!! Bro, your mind control has reached new heights!! You can even explode the animals you control!?"

Siwa also saw this and hurriedly rushed towards Tarun

"Sir, We are extremely sorry that this happened! He is the son of Demi-God Imperyon and so we can't arrest him now but we will surely alert the higher ups and they will get them punished"

"It's okay"

Said Tarun looking towards the person who exploded the firefly.

"Lead the way"

Said Tarun after shifting his gaze towards Siwa and started walking behind him while noticing the surrounding.
This planet was indeed burning with golden blue flames from everywhere and it also had large modern buildings. When Siwa noticed that Tarun was not startled by anything he saw even though this was his first visit according to the records, He became even more respectful towards Tarun.

The guy who had exploded the firefly was laughing with his friends as an attendant was registering him and his friends.

"Hey, look there! another firefly! Young master, try to control that!"

"Sure...hahahaha"

The 'Young master' tried to control the 'firefly' and the 'firefly' too came near him but as soon as he snapped his fingers, on the contrary to his expectations, the firefly didn't explode but kept coming in his direction.
He tried snapping a few more time but when the firefly came near him, he got scared and shouted!
As soon as he shouted, he discovered that it was all a dream as he was just spaced out for some time while looking in the direction Tarun was standing and there was no other firefly.

His sudden shout got the attention of everyone around him and as they were staring at him, he felt a little embarrassed and tried to laugh it off but as soon as he laughed, He Exploded!

I settled into the hero role and the years of adventures slipped by. 

I faced a host of enemies from jet skiing bank robbers to shape-shifting royals. I even faced down a time travelling rocker hell bent on kidnapping Elvis Presley.  

One of the most evil was a serial killer who called himself the Stranger. For months London was in a grip of terror.   

The press had jumped on it and named him Jack the new Ripper.  

He had slashed a bloody mark across the cold streets. Me and the Chief tried everything we could to catch him. But he was always cleverer, quicker and just plain luckier than us.  

Then destiny took a turn and out from the night as I did one of my patrols stepped Firefly a fourteen-year-old kid who wanted to be nothing else but a hero like me. 

I wasn't sure what to do or say. But in the end, we talked. It turned out he was an orphan. His parents had been killed during the war. And every night in the orphanage he dreamed of giving some payback to the bad guys. 

Yet even with all that said I could see something in his eyes. He meant what he said. He might have been only fourteen but he was nobody's fool.  

Then destiny stepped in again. I had installed a police radio in my car. Suddenly it fired into life. "The Stranger suspect spotted in the British museum." 

"We could be there in 5 minutes in your car." Firefly said.  "I know a short cut."  

Inside my head I tossed a mental coin. Heads I bring him, tails he comes with me. 5 minutes later we really were skidding up to the museum.  

The whole place was swarming with police. The Chief was waiting for me. "Who's the kid?" He asked.  

Firefly, as I was soon to find out, was quicker than he looked. "I'm his new partner, name's Firefly. So, Chief where's our bad guy to." 

The Chief gave me a sideways glance.  

Somewhere deep in my heart I felt the Dirty Desperadoes give a cheer of defiance. What the hell I thought. No guts no glory. "The kid's with me Chief." I said.   

"Right ok." The Chief said. "This freak or monster or whatever the hell you want to call him is inside. Turns out a woman he attacked wasn't that much of a push over. In fact, she holds a third Dan in Karate." 

The Chief took his gun out. "Witness reported last time she saw him he was running inside the museum. That was 15 minutes ago."  

The kid looked at me and said. "I can do this." 

 

We stepped inside the dark museum and fanned out. I'd forgotten how big the place was. 

"Firefly." I whispered. "Stick with me." I saw him look at my guns. I shook my head. "No chance you having one kid, you're lucky you got this far." 

Slowly we made our way through the massive rooms.  

"Look." Firefly whispered and pointed to a wall full of swords.  "One of them is missing." 

Then from above we heard the sound of singing. 

"Gee this guy's crazier than a full moon." Firefly said.  

Then very quickly a sword was placed to my neck. From the darkness a voice calmly said. "No young man, I'm perfectly sane. But I take it you both did not know the museum now houses a large record section above."  

The blade then pressed against my skin. "A perfect distraction, don't you think Darknight?" The stranger as he pressed the blade harder. "Now put the guns down slowly before I chop your head off."
