The inner eye is needed to see the true nature of fantasy and magical realism.   

The reason why some minds remember the details of the past while others can only recollect fragments of the past. There's only a fine line between reality and imagination. Between actuality and illusion. 

The insight into this, I will leave with the discerning minds of you, the readers, to determine. 

This very tale, was passed down to me through my ancestral generations. The actuality of this tale should be percieved from the point of imagination, in order to maintain the fine line. After many years of solitude, I've decided to share this tale with you. I believe it's time for you to know what truly happened. 

This work relates the tale of a young trueborn girl, Yao Ming. Born in the mortal realm as an ancient during the days of the Immortal Wars.

From the very first healthy gymnastics to the presentation on making one-star fantasy cards which came later, as far as he could tell, the two things didn't have any relationship.
Chen Mu had never had such intense curiosity lodged in his mind. He wanted to figure out all the secrets of that enigmatic card; or at the very least, he would like to know the ultimate purpose of this card.
Now that he had the guidance of the course of study from the card, Chen Mu's progress making fantasy cards went blazingly fast. The knowledge about cards presented by that course of study vastly widened the scope of Chen Mu's vision. Aside from the time spent training and making power-cards, he spent much of the rest of his time immersed in the miraculous fantasy realm of that mysterious card. 
He also spent a lot of that time examining the things around him. What the course of study taught was all theoretical knowledge, and one still needed a large amount of practical experience. The first step was observation. How could you make any of those so-called realistic illusions if you didn't have any concept about connecting them to the appearance of real things. And to make them, what you precisely needed was painstaking observation.
That was what he must build up to make low-grade fantasy cards. 
All of that had serious repercussions. For example, he couldn't help staring at the bread in his hand for six or seven minutes while he was munching on it, so that when he returned to his senses, he would already be hungry to the point of stomach cramps.
When he was closely examining something, it was easy for him to slip into a long period of blankness, which could be called entrancement. Whenever there were times like that, his reactions became very delayed, as though his surroundings were cut off from him.
One time, he had gone to Copper's place, and the two of them were chatting while making expressions of extreme appreciation while drinking the Sapphire Cloud Running Water. After drinking for a while, Chen Mu suddenly became silent. Copper called out to him for a long time, getting no response, just seeing him utterly blank and staring at the glass in his hand. Copper turned a deathly white, thinking that something had happened to Chen Mu.
It is a characteristic of the profession that one burns through a lot of money as a card master. Every time he learns a new card, the card master must go through huge amounts of practice. Chen Mu didn't have much money on hand at all; not enough for him to burn, like those sons of wealthy families. He could only observe normal things, so that when his preparation was a little more complete, he could reduce what he used up while making fantasy cards.
Apart from the first time that he had touched the light blue card in the fantasy realm, Chen Mu hadn't touched the so-called "token card" course of study. It would have been a joke, since the knowledge already laid out in front of him was enough to keep him occupied for a very long time.
Chen Mu had always restrained himself from biting off more than he could chew. 
Chen Mu treasured every chance he had to make a fantasy card, and attached great importance to it, making dozens of revisions ahead of time to the plans he made. He didn't omit a single detail. He wouldn't start until everything had been thought through and was completely ready. If anyone saw him so prudent and careful, they would never imagine that he was only making a trifling one or two-star fantasy card.
But truth be told, Chen Mu's methods were effective. He had been able to accomplish a remarkable degree of realism with the illusions emitted from the fantasy cards that he was making at that time. Although he wasn't satisfied, and any hint of pride would disappear without a trace every time he thought about those illusions from that mysterious card; illusions which could almost be called terrifying.
Of course, as he knew, the illusions from one or two-star fantasy cards couldn't be spoken about in the same category with the illusions from high-grade fantasy cards. Prior distinctions between the two categories were not limited to differences regarding coloring, contrast, or shape, but were rather a matter of the gap between the virtual and the real, which wasn't within the scope of low-grade cards' capability. 
Since he had no way to make that his work, he focused his skills on the degree of realism.
He planned to make a fantasy card advertising-poster for Uncle Hua.
His heart sank as soon as he thought about Uncle Hua. He could see that Uncle Hua's health was getting worse every day; his cough was becoming more and more violent. And his complexion each day was not as good as the last. Chen Mu had been going out to Uncle Hua's little shop more frequently those days, sometimes minding the shop and chatting with Uncle Hua. But Chen Mu had always been awkward in his speech, and so it was mostly Uncle Hua talking, and Chen Mu listening.
One of the reasons that he was progressing with blazing speed during that time was that all along he had been wanting to make an advertising poster for Uncle Hua – a flawlessly perfect billboard – which he hadn't started because he felt that his power was still insufficient.
His progress finally made him decide that it was time. There was also the deeply buried worry in his heart about Uncle Hua's health. So, he made the decision. Another important reason was that he had recently finally made a breakthrough with motion-illusion fantasy card making. That difficult problem had perplexed him for a long time. 
As compared with the still-illusion fantasy card, a circular composition is added to the fantasy card which can emit motion-illusions. But as every card master knows, the degree of difficulty to make the motion-illusion fantasy card is much higher as compared with the still-illusion fantasy card. The most directly observed manifestation of this was the price of the cards. The advertised price of the motion-illusion fantasy card was at least three times that of the still-illusion card.
A difficult problem, which really puts novices through an ordeal, was how to cause illusions to move; how to make them move smoothly and naturally.
For example, if the emitted image was a waterfall, many of the illusions put out by novices were like not-quite-cooked silver noodles. While if you really wanted to achieve something true to life, you would need many specifics, like the ripples and folds of water when it flowed, the splashes blooming everywhere, the fine mist which filled the air, and so forth. Only card masters having rich experience could pull this off, although in that regard, many high-level card masters were not up to the level of low-level card masters who specialized in motion-illusions.
There was a famous saying in the card world – details determine results.
It was painstaking work, not admitting the least bit of pretense.
But Chen Mu was very patient, which had something to do with similar encounters during his childhood. It wasn't a simple matter if a street punk who wanted to get food wasn't patient enough. Maintaining such patience would be enough to make others bristle, but not for an "adept" in the street punk world like him, who has been able to survive street punk life long-term. 
Observation! Lengthy observation wasn't dry at all for him.
His progress was fast; fast enough even to surprise himself. For the first time, he wondered if he might have natural talent for card making.
The eagle flies, while the rabbit walks, the wind blows while the water flows, the sun rises in the morning and sets at night . . .
There wasn't one of the motion fantasy cards that he made which wasn't exceptionally lively. But those weren't his most realistic motion fantasy cards; those were of bustling and hasty pedestrians, or cats and dogs wandering in the night . . . those childhood scenes were deeply burned into his mind. He could make them appear almost without thinking. These became among his most treasured riches.
That day, he planned to make a fantasy card advertising-poster for Uncle Hua. But because it was his first time making a fantasy card billboard, and he didn't have any experience, Chen Mu planned to stroll about on the street, to learn about what sort of style was used in other people's fantasy card billboards.

Brainpower is no longer the main ingredient for being human in this far distant future world. This is a rebirth story of a girl who had lived one life, and will experience another. Follow her along her journey of discovery: of herself, as she walks an entirely new path. Yet, at the same time, she seeks to find closure from her old life. 

World background: Current Earth, with names of countries being just Country J, Country SA etc. 

First, the MC is the typical OP character. Second, it's a slice of life story mixed with OPness of MC. If you don't like Gary Sue / OP characters, with a slow story pace, then this is not for you. 

There are elements of adventure/action, romance, some comedy and a little bit of mystery.  It is also a story about friendship and the bonds we make as we grow up.

"A year from now, we will be releasing worldwide the first and only game to incorporate Deep Dive technology! A game that will allow you to experience firsthand a world of fantasy, of swords and magic, of heroes and devils! ladies and gentlemen, please, welcome to the Age of Heroes!"

A new world, a new beginning, what path will you take?

I'm not sure why I hadn't thought of this earlier as most my stories are basically Fantasy with a capital F so let me get right into it. What separates 'Fantasy' from 'Contemporary' works isn't just where it's set but also the level of contrivances that are allowed.

As I've said before, every story allows a certain level of contrived scenarios where Destiny and Fate are actually a thing. Fantasy stories in particular work best when you go all in on your imagination.

I know you all have had it drilled into your brains that a certain level of 'realism' is needed even in a fantasy story. However, what most mean by that isn't adding the laws of physics to your story but keeping it internally consistent with clear laws and limits.

I'm pretty sure you guys don't need a rundown in how society works because fantasy societies work the same way expect they have the word 'Magic' added to them. Do NOT rip off Elves and Dwarves from the Lord of the Rings and flex the creative muscles in your brain a little. There's no limit to the kind of magical races you can make in a Fantasy!

This also applies to magic. However, people only remember limitations more than what a persons using Magic System can generally do since 'magic is omnipotent unless proven otherwise'. There will be no narrative stakes or tension if you can't even make sure random nobodies aren't shooting off nukes and your main character isn't invincible beyond measure.

There are people who tend to overthink about how to write Fantasy since it's such a popular genre everyone and their dog is writing. You don't need someone else's guideline to write a Fantasy since most good Author's base them out of existing literature of the past or modern ones they are retelling using their own tropes and characters.

You'll never get anywhere if you need someone else to flex your creativity when looking into the past brings forth many mystical stories and myths that all wouldn't be possible without a little bit of magic sprinkled onto them. The classic LitRPG genre with stuff like Guilds and Adventures is popular to use nowadays but only because you don't have to explain much in a story that's so easy to figure out.

If you're going to use the LitRPG setting with dungeons and dragons, make sure you make it character driven and focus on people rather than explaining how fireballs work. The only reason Slime Reincarnation (That Time I Reincarnating As A Slime) or Sword Dad (I Was A Sword When I Reincarnated) are so popular is because behind the Power Fantasy are well-written and diverse characters.

If you want to write your own Fantasy World unique to only you, then it's best to start researching ways to ground it with your audience. These days people want to read about 'people' more than someone dumping lore about a fictional world they don't care about. Even pure Fantasy stories needs a protagonist that can be the reader's eyes and ears.

Now, thanks to the Isekai Boom, you may think that a main character HAS to be reincarnated for basically no reason whatsoever. However, that is ill-advised as people reincarnated for trivial reasons bore the audience to death. There's this Fantasy story about this non-reincarnated girl who was raised by Death himself in a regular medieval magic world, causing her to be a mix of creepy and cute all at the same time. This is an example of the kind of plots which are interesting BECAUSE their MC is a member of this world but special rather than some random guy from Earth who just so happens to be Isekai'd.

Isekai can be done right when the main character's rebirth or transportation into this world holds some sort of meaning. However, it can turn into a very boring story with maybe one or two gimmicks if you aren't even thinking of an ending for it.

Getting back to the main point: You seriously won't be able to write a Fantasy properly unless you at least know something about characters (If you haven't already figured that out already).

How the life of this character, under the special upbringing that only those of your Fantasy World go through, is interesting to the reader depends of where you take the tropes of your regular Fantasy.

You can go the 'Epic Fantasy' route, then copying the Hero's Journey is fine as long as you switch it up a bit. As long as you understand the fundamentals of a Hero's Journey and not look at it as the ONLY WAY TO TELL A STORY then you're on the right track.

Those who are wondering what a Hero's Journey is can find the link at the bottom. Also try searching for Dan Harmon's Story Circle for a more character driven version of it on YouTube. Anyway, this trope is basically the origin of the whole 'Chosen One' trope.

As for what I meant by Epic Fantasy, it is actually quite beloved type of story for many who love the Fantasy genre. It could be about the journey about a chosen one destined to defeat a Big Baddy like Eragon, Lord of the Rings, etc. There are even shorter and more simplified versions of this which is basically where the 'Hero Vs Demon King' trope came from. As long as there's a quest fraught with danger then people would love to read about a chosen one being able to win against their foes.

Another route you can take is Dark Fantasy, where all the lovely tales of HP Lovecraft comes from. His stories may lean more on the spectrum of supernatural tales about Dark Gods and Cults but the way everything seems to be ripped out of a nightmare is what I'm trying to focus on. If a regular Fantasy is like a dream then a Dark Fantasy is one you'd rather avoid since the world is screwed up.

And I don't mean the characters are screwed up or insane by any means, I literally mean either the Magic System or how society works is genuinely screwed up. Read 'Dungeon Seeker' as an example of this (Warning: Don't read it if you don't want to pollute your innocent mind with all the corruption in this story). Either way, it could be the Magic System relies on the blood of orphans, or it could be you have to kill a loved every time you cast a spell. The main point is that this Fantasy World is just hell.

Now, I could move on to Urban Fantasy and other sub-genres, but that would be wasting my time and yours since TV Tropes exists for a reason. Just remember what I've said and have a clear goal in beginning and end planned for your character's development and you'll be fine. There's nothing better than a story that's focused after all.

This is a story I worked on ages ago that has been refined and edited by adding foreshadowing to events while also simplifying the power system better than before. This story can be considered a prequel to An Adventure Beyond Greatness as it takes place years prior to the events of that story.

Short Synopsis:
After retiring from the battlefield, my life became empty and lifeless. The regrets of my past haunt me in my sleep. Then a change occurred, a King from another world summoned me to fight for his kingdom, but I died even before I could give him my answer. Now, after a fake God allowed me to reincarnate (albeit imperfectly) with my memories intact, into a world filled with magic and swords.

Long Synopsis:
This is about a flawed protagonist who only knew to rely on others and not socialise who gets a second chance to change himself in order to live the life he aimed for in his past life. The narrator isn’t exactly trustworthy since it is purely in his bias perspective while other perspectives given by others fill in the blanks that he either leaves out or twists to suit the situation.

The story itself can be considered a parody of Isekai’s classic tropes which are given a sense of reality as time goes by. As there exists no ‘Demon Lord’, there is also no black and white, only characters opinions and counter-opinions throughout the story.

20 years ago, the world discovered magic.

Or rather than discovered, the world was suddenly introduced to magic, due to a certain event that took place. It forever changes the course of mankind. With the sudden appearance of dungeons around the world, the magic began to flow over from the other side, which caused the Earth to underwent drastic changes.

Magical realism, the construction phenomena to be able to bring fantasy into reality, such an ability began to spread across the world.

The influence of magic began to take its toll on the planet in more ways than one. Events that drastically changed the Earth's ecosystem and wildlife were widespread, and places later that would such hostile creatures are to be called dungeons would start popping up all around the world almost overnight. 

Mutations on living organisms began to run rampant, creating such existences that are akin to monsters from fantasy novels and fiction. Such events would take place as the magic's potency in the atmosphere continued to grow ever more denser.

With such a drastic change occurring, the human race obviously also underwent a radical adjustment on the utmost fundamental level. The human race's physiology changed at a cellular level, and three variations of humans then came into existence with strict ties to magic.  The magically competent (magus), the magically gifted (sorcerers), and ability users (espers).

The magically competent (magus) can be described as sponges, they are capable of absorbing magic into themselves, and form their core strength derived from the element that which they are specialized in. 
Whilst, the magically gifted (sorcerers) are akin to faucets, they are capable of producing their own magic, through the creation of spells and magic formulas. 
The ability users (espers) in this respect would be regarded as the recycler, in which the raw magic power is rejected by the human body physiology, therefore it is filtered and converted into another form of energy, forming a unique ability or skill somewhat exclusive to them.

These three variations of human physiology would later make up the majority of the human race, all 
except for ability users have one thing in common, and that is the ability to utilize and interact with magic.

Of course, the influence it had on society was also unprecedented. The first to feel its effect was the military. With attempted mobilization and militarization of magic, combat and warfare drastically changed. Magic became a cornerstone of any army, and it's use reflected military strength.

But that's not to say magic remained only as a military asset. As its place in warfare solidified, it also spread into various aspects of society. Technology, education, entertainment, even sports, all these places and many more were influenced, creating an everyday life in which magic was the norm.

Technology changed greatly as magic's influence seeped into everyday life. As a fuel source, mana was a nearly inexhaustible resource, and with the knowledge and reassurance that everybody in the world was capable of interacting with magic, magical tools began to take up the majority of the everyday tools in a person's life. 
In this respect, the interaction between electronically controlled objects and magically controlled objects was a dynamic pairing, in which the eventual domination of magic outweighed the influence of the previous era's technology.

In a similar fashion, the entertainment industry was also greatly influenced by magic. Going off the previous era's fantasies, magic boomed within the industry. "Sports" that centered on the use of magic, as well as the interaction between magic and the physical body were widely popular. 
The use of magic in movies and tv shows replaced CGI and documentary-esque real-time broadcasts of magical adventures and a colosseum like fights between magicians in a similar fashion to boxing were greatly popular with the general masses.

With the influence of both industries, magic's popularity and usage rapidly expanded.

As a result, a hierarchy began to form. A hierarchy centered on magical ability was cemented into society. Accomplished magicians were regarded as something to strive for, while those that lacked talent in the art were looked down on. In a sense, it was a world in which best encapsulated the phrase, "Survival of the fittest".

With the rapid expansion of magic, the world was entering a new era. Similarly to the growth of the communication era of the previous century, The age of magic was rising and reaching its peak.

In such a world, a man with absolutely no capability in magic would be regarded as an irregular, no...rather than an irregular, a failure would be a better description. Such a failure is me... Luo Chen.
