The night sky was vast.

It was 11 P.M. at night.

After the meal, Heavenly Queen Zhang Yuanqi held her chest with one hand as she leaned against the headboard to send email on her phone. Maybe she was working, as her face looked serious and sullen. She did not have any intention of speaking to Zhang Ye.

She would kill the donkey the moment it left the millstone!

You’ve forgotten about this bro after you are full?

Zhang Ye also knew that a distinguished person like her was busy, so he did not disturb her. He also wasn't emboldened enough to disturb her. Zhang Yuanqi was standing at the pinnacle of their country's entertainment industry, while Zhang Ye himself was just a small figure, who was a fledgling. He was not even considered a celebrity. He would, at most, be considered a public figure. The gap between them was heaven and earth. Zhang Ye knew this himself, so he was very respectful towards a senior.

Switching on the computer, he began doing his own thing. He first checked his Weibo and was suddenly dumbfounded. Why were there so many forwards for one of his Weibo messages? Upon checking, he realized what had happened. The "Flying Bird and Fish" message that originally only had about 2,000-3,000 forwards back then? It wasn't that much. But now, this poem's forwards on Weibo had suddenly become more than 8,000. It had tripled! After being surprised for a while, Zhang Ye treated it as nothing. Back in his world, "Flying Bird and Fish" itself had more than a hundred million clicks on the internet. How many people did not see it? Hence, this tiny explosive increase was reasonable. A good poem could never be buried. As for the reason? Zhang Ye's analysis was that it was due to many things. "Ghost Blows Out the Light", fairy tale stories and his other poems. The number of people who knew of him was slowly increasing. So people would begin checking his other works, which created an entire increase in popularity for all of his works!

Meng Dongguo had used his verified Weibo to openly question, "I do not know why such things can become so popular. Just because there's a lot of people looking and commenting on it, that makes it a good poem? A legend? It saved a life? A poem's worth is based on its literary value; it does not depend on other stories or situations to add to its worth. I cannot see any literary value in this poem. All I see is moaning and drool. This can also be considered a modern poem? This is also called literature? Also, the author's ‘A Generation’, I would not comment on the poem's words, but why do I find the topic so twisted? A slightly past 20-year-old child commenting on a generation? This should be a term used by us, right? You are not grown up yet, and still have a long road ahead. You do not have the ability to see through your generation, so don't write such a poem to cause ridicule to yourself!"

Some people did not like that.

"It can't be!? I think it's very good!"

"So what about youths? Youths can't write poems?"

"What a joke! Just one sentence of 'you young people don't know anything' to negate all his worth? To think that you are the Vice President of the Beijing Writer's Association?"

However, there were even more that joined the ranks of the doubters.

A number of them were authors and poets of the Beijing Writer's Association. They were all verified accounts.

Romance author Zheng Anbang commented, "Even Vice President Meng has commented? Actually, I was not able to continue watching this, starting from a long time ago. This poem may be very popular now, but no matter how many times I see it, I can't figure out what is good about it!"

Children's literature author Little Red Mushroom commented, "Zhang Ye's poem isn't bad, but it's only average. It does not deserve all this attention!"

A famous poet in Beijing, whose pseudonym was Big Thunder, said, "What a mess! Complete bull****! What sort of poem is this? What are you trying to express with ‘The Song of the Stormy Petrel’? Do you think these are the old days? Even if you wanted to expression that period's rebellion and helplessness, how old are you? Do you know what the old society was like? Were you composing poems with your fantasy? How can there be any literary skill!? He is, at best, a temporary demagogue! Those who are following you, what's up with all of you? Do you even have any appreciation for art? I really wonder!"

Suddenly, five to six authors and poets began barraging Zhang Ye!

Zhang Ye, who was in front of his computer, could not help but curse, "What the f***! Are you monkeys backup that were invited? Where did you all pop up from? Did I provoke all of you!?"

Zhang Yuanqi did not know what was happening as she came behind Zhang Ye. As she held her shoulders, her face was expressionless as she looked without blinking at his computer screen, "Who are they scolding?"

"Scolding me." Zhang Ye said angrily.

Zhang Yuanqi's eyelids twitched, "Meng Dongguo? Beijing Writers’ Association's Leader? This person has quite a bit of reputation in the industry, right? Then what about Little Red Mushroom? She was the one who wrote fairy tales, right? Big Thunder? I have seen his poems. He is not anything in the country, but he is still quite famous in Beijing." As the literature circle was encroaching into the entertainment industry, it was almost indivisible. As an S-list star in the industry, Zhang Yuanqi was quite aware of this. She was objective with their evaluations. Of course, only Zhang Yuanqi had the right to say this. If it was anyone else, no one would dare say who was not anything in the country. At this moment, the fans of Meng Dongguo and a few poets and authors had rushed to Zhang Ye's Weibo to curse at him. They did so indiscriminately!

"Demagogue!"

"To think you dare to publish such a beaten-up poem?"

"Everyone, don't read this person's poem. The industry’s experts have given their evaluation. This is not called literature. There is no value to it!"

"It can't be? It's quite good!"

"Do you know, or do the experts know?"

"That's right; the Vice President of the Beijing Writer's Association has already said it's bad!"

"I see. I thought it was such a good poem. You wasted my feelings!"

"That's right; I even recited Zhang Ye's poem to my children. I never expected it to not have any cultural value. Isn't this harming others? Harming me is fine, but don't mislead my children!"

"Zhang! Get lost from of the field of poetry!"

"Get lost! There is no need for you!"

"To think I liked Zhang Ye's poems in the past. Hai, it’s so disappointing!"

A few of Zhang Ye's original fans were steered by Meng Dongguo and a few authors and poets, as they began to complain!

However, there were people who insisted on supporting Zhang Ye. However, soon, they drowned in those people's spit. They had no chance to talk!

Zhang Ye felt sourness in his heart. He was also very distressed. That was the popularity that he had worked hard to obtain. But just because of their few words, it was being scattered away. Even those who supported Zhang Ye's poems were no longer that firm in their beliefs. After all, with so many professional Teachers and famous authors and poets collectively denying Zhang Ye's worth, people would all have second thoughts as to whether his poem was really good.

Even his fans were scolding him. Zhang Ye's fists clenched tightly.

Zhang Yuanqi said indifferently, "This is what the circle is like. You have to get used to others. If not..."

"Then what's the ‘if not’?" Zhang Ye asked for advice.

Zhang Yuanqi said coldly, "...If not, make others get used to you."

Zhang Ye thought for a while and, after digesting Zhang Yuanqi's words, he was no longer angry. Seeing the cursing or disappointed fans, Zhang Ye posted a message on Weibo.

It was a response!

Zhang Yuanqi was by his side, reading. As she saw Zhang Ye type one word after another, her gaze changed for the first time. There was a brilliance in her eyes!

Zhang Ye had written this.

"See me, or not. There will I stay, no sorrow, nor joy."

"Miss me, or not. There will affection lay, no immersion, nor dispersion."

"Love me, or not. There will love remain, no more, nor less."

"Follow me, or not. In your hand is mine, no discarding, nor departure."

"Come to me, or give me your heart to dwell in."

"Love with serenity. Rejoice in silence."

This was an old poem. Why so? Because according to the poem's age, it was actually quite old in Zhang Ye's world. It was not very famous at all until the movie, "If You Are the One 2" was released. It then became famous. Even the drama, "Palace" had used it as lyrics for its ending song. Later on, someone said that this poem was composed by Tsangyang Gyatso. Actually it wasn't. There was even a copyright lawsuit. The original author of the poem was Tashi Lam, Dodo? The original name of the poem was "The Silence of Vadjra Guru Pema" and also "See Me or Not".

Some people might question whether a love poem like this would be suitable in this situation.

It was precisely that many people were not sure. This poem was not a love poem at all. It had nothing to do with love. This poem's inspiration came from his world's Guru Rinpoche's famous words, "I have never abandoned people who believed in me, or even those who did not believe in me. Although they will not see me, my children will forever be protected by my compassion." This poem expressed the Guru's neither clinging, nor abandoning love for his disciples. It had nothing to do with romantic love.

It was perfectly apt for Zhang Ye to use it as a response!

Maybe he was not as noble as the original authors, but it currently represented his feelings!

Regardless of people who like me staying or leaving me.

I will be right here, neither clinging, nor abandoning, neither sad, nor happy!

Right then, Xiao Feifei's phone sounded.
"It's Lingchen."
Xiao Feifei's eyes brightened, and she immediately opened the message. "He has really finished the script."
"He actually finished the script in three days?!" Sister Lin exclaimed in surprise. "I wonder what's the quality like."
"It won't be bad." Xiao Feifei was filled with anticipation. She printed out Ye Lingchen's script in a hurry and read it back to back with Sister Lin.
Once they started, their laughter never stopped and they were totally engrossed in it, unable to stop midway. Only when they finished the last page could they stop reading.
"This script...OMG! It will definitely be a hit!" Sister Lin gasped a mouthful of cold air. She recalled the plots in iPartment and still felt like laughing.
Xiao Feifei was the Queen of TV series. Their sense for TV series was definitely on par with any directors. This iPartment script was really well written and could be considered a masterpiece!
"It's a heartwarming and funny TV series." Although Xiao Feifei had full confidence in Ye Lingchen, she was still shocked when she saw that script. She even felt that this script surpassed all the scripts she had seen before this!
"The content of this script is impeccable. It accommodates audiences of all ages. Most importantly, this script's filming cost is extremely low!" Xiao Feifei noticed that point.
Filming cost was an important factor for a filming company because it directly affected the profits. Nonetheless, Ye Lingchen managed to create the perfect content and minimize the cost at the same time. He deserved to be described as a genius. Furthermore, this script was written in only three days!
If that news were to be leaked, it would shake the screenwriting community. All the screenwriters would die from embarrassment!
"Feifei, I finally understand why you're working so hard." Sister Lin nodded profoundly as she read the script.
At first, Xiao Feifei was a rare good girl in her eyes. Those that are worthy of her could be counted on one's hand. However, Ye Lingchen was an exception!

Ye Lingchen was shocked when he entered Weibo's main page.
In the middle of the main page was an event banner. It was the poem event that he saw a few days back. It was a platform for everyone to express themselves through poems.
To be honest, that event was rather successful and was buzzing with activity.
Opening the event link, Ye Lingchen was surprised. The event page was unexpectedly filled with many poems over the past few days. It was roughly estimated to be in the thousands.
Apart from some trolls from when the event started, it managed to bring in a few traditional linguists to take part as the event progressed.
Their Weibo were all certified accounts, and they were members of the Author's Association from various districts, various poets, modern poets, and even ancient poem appraisers.
This group of people was rather famous and had previously created some works. With their reputation, their participation immediately boosted the status and liveliness of the event.
Everyone took turns to voice out their comments, teachings, and debates.
At first, everything was fine. However, this group of people got addicted to boasting which eventually got into their heads. With that rush, they started sharing their poems for everyone to read.

[XX City's WA member no.1: Good poem, good poem! Chairman's poem is describing a snowing scene, right? So lifelike. I'm humbled, so humbled!]
[XX City's WA member no.2: The poem's content and words are easily relatable. It also breaks apart from the usual rhyming pattern, especially that last sentence, "swelling on a white dog", is the essence of the poem. It shows us the scene of a heavy snowstorm, causing the image to pop out from the paper! Just amazing!]
[XX City's WA member no.3: This poem is a masterpiece, one I look up to!]
Faced with the praise from the crowd, XX City's WA Chairman laughed humbly, [It's nothing. This is just something I wrote casually at the end of last year. It's not suited for formal events. Please don't laugh at me…] 
With that, they started stroking each other's ego on the platform, getting more and more out of hand, eventually turning the platform into their stage.
Ye Lingchen continued reading. With that, it turned even more nonsensical.

Apart from that, there were also those asking for advice.
[XX City's WA member: I had an inspiration and wrote a poem, hoping for chairmen and presidents to give me some pointers. A Praise of the Clouds—The clouds in the sky are really white. Really white, really really white. Very white, very very white. Extremely white, super white, so white I could die. Ah!]
That was not the worst. Below that, someone was actually giving him pointers.
[XX City's WA Chairman: Your poem is mainly writing about the whiteness of the clouds. The theme is clear, but the obscurity is lacking. However, as a poem, it is considered acceptable. Passable.]

Ye Lingchen quickly logged out of there. If he continued reading them, he feared that his intelligence would be affected.
No wonder so many people cried foul. That was just challenging the extreme!

After William Caxton introduced the printing press in England in 1476, vernacular literature flourished.[29] The Reformation inspired the production of vernacular liturgy which led to the Book of Common Prayer (1549), a lasting influence on literary language. The English Renaissance was a cultural and artistic movement in England dating from the late 15th to the 17th century. It is associated with the pan-European Renaissance that is usually regarded as beginning in Italy in the late 14th century. Like most of northern Europe, England saw little of these developments until more than a century later. Renaissance style and ideas were slow in penetrating England, and the Elizabethan era in the second half of the 16th century is usually regarded as the height of the English Renaissance.[38]

This Italian influence can also be found in the poetry of Thomas Wyatt (1503–42), one of the earliest English Renaissance poets. He was responsible for many innovations in English poetry, and alongside Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey (1516/1517–47) introduced the sonnet from Italy into England in the early 16th century.[39][40][41]

Elizabethan period (1558–1603)


Poetry

Edmund Spenser (c. 1552–99) was one of the most important poets of the Elizabethan period, author of The Faerie Queene (1590 and 1596), an epic poem and fantastical allegory celebrating the Tudor dynasty and Elizabeth I. Another major figure, Sir Philip Sidney (1554–86), was an English poet, whose works include Astrophel and Stella, The Defence of Poetry, and The Countess of Pembroke's Arcadia. Poems intended to be set to music as songs, such as those by Thomas Campion (1567–1620), became popular as printed literature was disseminated more widely in households.

Drama

Among the earliest Elizabethan plays are Gorboduc (1561) by Sackville and Norton, and Thomas Kyd's (1558–94) The Spanish Tragedy (1592). Gorboducis notable especially as the first verse drama in English to employ blank verse, and for the way it developed elements, from the earlier morality plays and Senecan tragedy, in the direction which would be followed by later playwrights.[42] The Spanish Tragedy[43]is an Elizabethan tragedy written by Thomas Kyd between 1582 and 1592, which was popular and influential in its time, and established a new genre in English literature theatre, the revenge play.[44]


William Shakespeare (1564–1616) stands out in this period as a poet and playwright as yet unsurpassed. Shakespeare wrote plays in a variety of genres, including histories (such as Richard III and Henry IV), tragedies (such as Hamlet, Othello, and Macbeth, comedies (such as Midsummer Night's Dream, As You Like It, and Twelfth Night) and the late romances, or tragicomedies. Shakespeare's career continues in the Jacobean period.

Other important figures in Elizabethan theatre include Christopher Marlowe, and Ben Jonson, Thomas Dekker, John Fletcher and Francis Beaumont.

Jacobean period (1603–1625)

In the early 17th century Shakespeare wrote the so-called "problem plays", as well as a number of his best known tragedies, including Macbeth and King Lear.[45] In his final period, Shakespeare turned to romance or tragicomedy and completed three more major plays, including The Tempest. Less bleak than the tragedies, these four plays are graver in tone than the comedies of the 1590s, but they end with reconciliation and the forgiveness of potentially tragic errors.[46]

After Shakespeare's death, the poet and dramatist Ben Jonson (1572–1637) was the leading literary figure of the Jacobean era. Jonson's aesthetics hark back to the Middle Ages and his characters embody the theory of humours, which was based on contemporary medical theory.[47]Jonson's comedies include Volpone(1605 or 1606)) and Bartholomew Fair(1614). Others who followed Jonson's style include Beaumont and Fletcher, who wrote the popular comedy, The Knight of the Burning Pestle (probably 1607–08), a satire of the rising middle class.[48]

Another popular style of theatre during Jacobean times was the revenge play, which was popularized in the Elizabethan era by Thomas Kyd (1558–94), and then further developed later by John Webster (?1578-?1632), The White Devil (1612) and The Duchess of Malfi(1613). Other revenge tragedies include The Changeling written by Thomas Middleton and William Rowley.[49]

Poetry

George Chapman (c. 1559- c. 1634) is remembered chiefly for his famous translation in 1616 of Homer's Iliad and Odyssey into English verse.[50] This was the first ever complete translations of either poem into the English language. The translation had a profound influence on English literature and inspired John Keats's famous sonnet "On First Looking into Chapman's Homer" (1816).

Shakespeare popularized the English sonnet, which made significant changes to Petrarch's model. A collection of 154 by sonnets, dealing with themes such as the passage of time, love, beauty and mortality, were first published in a 1609 quarto.

Besides Shakespeare and Ben Jonson, the major poets of the early 17th century included the Metaphysical poets: John Donne (1572–1631), George Herbert(1593–1633), Henry Vaughan, Andrew Marvell, and Richard Crashaw.[51] Their style was characterized by wit and metaphysical conceits, that is far-fetched or unusual similes or metaphors.[52]

Prose

The most important prose work of the early 17th century was the King James Bible. This, one of the most massive translation projects in the history of English up to this time, was started in 1604 and completed in 1611. This represents the culmination of a tradition of Bible translation into English that began with the work of William Tyndale, and it became the standard Bible of the Church of England.

She couldn't comprehend how a countryside bumpkin with no cultivation, a person who spent a whole day reading books for children up to six years, was having so much confidence in himself. The fact that he was able to dodge the guard's attacks ten times straight was somewhat suspicious and one might even think of it as a heavenly luck has taken place, since most of the time he didn't even look at Matt's movements.

"To see who is the unlearned one here!?" – Evan looked deadly serious, and even a hint of offence was showing on his face.

Evan was planning to make some fun of the girl, since he found her interesting. Not only she didn't behave as your average bookworm girl would, while being shy and all, she even had the heaven defying "two little sisters". The fact that she tried to apologise in the first place showed how innocent she was, and Evan didn't doubt for a second that the girl was a twenty-ish years old virgin, since alpha has already told him the information.

[A cliché situation where a cheater deals with an arrogant character is exactly what I need to set up] – meeting such an interesting person, Evan thought it would worth to befriend her.

"Ridiculous!!! Even a blind person would see that you are speaking nonsense and what can I get from such a beggar when I win the bet!?" – Britney felt even more stupefied, the person in front of her obviously was a person of lowly birth, but the confidence he radiated even when faced with people like herself and her grandfather, wasn't shining even one less bit.

"Do you like poems!?" – Evan asked with cunningness in his voice.

"What would a countryside bumpkin know, I am a poet myself!" – poems were Britney's one of the favourite subjects. She was called a genius poet of the young generation and it was something that Britney was taking pride in.

Evan didn't mention poems as a random subject since he saw her reading a half-meter thick book of poems in the morning. With Evan's knowledge from previous world and alpha on his side, he could just randomly recite any number of the most famous poems that had conquered the hearts of billions of people through out the ages.

"What a coincidence, I am a very qualified poet as well, we can compare our poems!?" – Evan grinned from one ear to another.

"Shameless, how can such an unrefined muscle head be a poet!? There are millions of losers with a lack of talent, who think they can create poems, but actually are nothing more than jokes in my sight, for I am Britney Rotherford, from the Rotherford family" – Britney didn't even consider what Evan said seriously, since she was absolutely sure that no such muscular ugly looking guy without manners and scholarly aura around him would be a poet worthy of being called such. 

"Actions are always better than words. Hmhm…" – Evan cleared his throat, He finally knew the background of the girl. The Rotherford family were the epitome of literature, in every generation the family produced more and more renowed writers and poets that would create amazing pieces of literature. Evan undrestood that he could not do it halfhearted, so asked for alpha's help. Evan changed his cheeky expression to a sensual one and with a sweat voice started to recite the poem.

Evan's voice was too sweat, his expression showed how deeply in love ge was, the words were so resonating with the very soul that Britney's very monster core was shaken.

"What a beautiful poem, It's on the same level as  grandfather's poems!?" – Britney was so overtaken, that she forgot that the reciting person was still the guy that she only a moment ago called an unlearned countryside bumpkin.

"So, Miss Britney I suppose...by the way, my name is Evan... what do you think about my poem!?" – Evan said, seeing her expression that showed how thoroughly she was immersed into the thoughts about the poem.

"Aahh, what…you…how can it be you…I don't believe it…you definitively cheated…I....I won't accept it!" – Britney just came back to her senses. She was completely dumbfounded, and the obvious reaction of denial followed immediately after. The performance Evan just did was amazing, but the actor's looks didn't match the style or the words, which downgraded the performance. Everyone would get an image of a performer in their head when they enjoyed the show, and very ofter when the image didn't match the reality a large portion of the pleasure would disappear. Britney understood how good the poem was, and hence couldn't match it up with Evan. 

"Come on miss, it's a pleasure to meet you too, don't worry beauty, I believe you have the means to find out if I really cheated with the poem or not, and we still haven't started the bet, hence no terms were stated yet!" – Evan replied smiling.

"I…I…can't…" – while she was searching for words to reply, Evan interjected.

"My actions proved themselves. Since the reason for the disagreement between us was to see if I am unlearned or not, the best solution to check is literature. We can challenge each other on the topic of poems, I can give you 3 days to prepare." – Evan said still smiling, if one looked carefully into his eyes, they would notice a slight mischievousness.

"I…I agree, but when you lose, you will tell me who is the author of the poem is and give me all of the other poems of the grandmaster you have!" – Britney still didn't doubt that Evan didn't have anything to do with such a touching poem but couldn't be not curious about an author who could write such a touching poem about love.

"The poem's value are beyond of your immagination, but still I do agree. Do not judge people by what their looks. Do not underestimate anyone, these are the universal sayings that anyone under skies know about but only a handful use!" – Evan was shaking his head when he said it. It looked like he was disappointed with Britney actions, while he himself behaved like a person who gained wisdom of the world.

"Stop the bullshit. It is something you should say for yourself, do not underestimate the eyes of a professional poet!" – Britney got frustrated because Evan was trying to look like a sage. She could tell with a single glance that he was at most a beginner in poetry.

When one reached a certain level of mastery in poetry, the way they speak or even move would change and they would radiate a certain grace that learned people could immediately recognise.

"Do not participate in a war in which you can't win, therefore I will stop arguing. If I win, miss Britney, you will just wear the clothes that I will prepare for you, and great me with a waist bow, as if I were your Master!" – Evan said with smile on his face.

The conditions were quite absurd for Britney. However, since she never doubted even for a second that she would definitively win, she accepted the conditions. Britney knew by name all of the grandmaster poets that lived on the devil continent for the last thousand years and she never heard any poem similar to the one Evan just recited. She was sure, that Evan found some ancient poet's creation and therefore couldn't wait to read his great works.

"If that is all you want, Deal. No going back now, mister Evan! I will be getting an ancient poetry book, what a luck! Do not say I am bulling you to take the grandmaster's book from you. You were the one who suggested it first." – For the first time Britney started to smile, it was almost like she didn't hear the words Evan said about the clothes.

"Don't worry miss Britney, this young hero never tells lies. Then I will trouble you to prepare for the contest in 3 days, and keep the conditions a secret. Since we don't want your scary grandpa to come after my life again!" – Evan was smiling, his set up worked perfectly, and everything was according to his plan.   
 

Evan's soul transmigrated to another world, but it didn't seem to be an accident as you would usually expect in transmigration. Zhao Yiling blushed and shyly pointed at Wang Hao, who was not far behind her.
Seeing that, all the men at the party felt that their heart break. Had their goddess really fallen in love with a man who wrote erotic limericks?
"Not bad…" Guo Yunzi laughed and said, "He does look quite handsome. I'm sure that Old Zhao will be very delighted to see him."
"Congratulations on finding your love, Sister Yiling." Duo Duo covered her lips and smiled.
"What are you talking about? He has to pass another two tests if he wants to marry me." Zhao Yiling stomped shyly and tickled Duo Duo.

All the men felt hurt. Zhao Yiling, an ice queen, never showed such shyness before. Even a blind person could tell that the ice queen had fallen in love.
"He has passed the test for the poem he offered to you last time!" Duo Duo giggled, holding Zhao Yiling's hand.
Guo Yunzi smiled and read it aloud. "'A lady stood in the north, beautiful and detached. When she turned around, a city and a country fell for her.' It's truly a great poem!"
Every man felt heartbroken again. It was truly hopeless this time. Their goddess had stated that she wanted a man who was good at both martial arts and literature.
She had probably already been captivated by this poem, which praised her gorgeousness, as well as what Wang Hao created just now.

Guo Yunzi was one of the most famous poets in this country. If he was angered, Wang Hao would never be able to make a living as a poet. Some of his followers might even try to kill Wang Hao.
It was definitely not a joke, as poets and scholars were well-respected in the Glorious Sky Federation.
"Are you crazy? Apologize to Grandpa Guo right now!" Greatly shocked, Zhao Yiling glared at Wang Hao.
Guo Yunzi waved his hand and said with a smile, "You seem to be a proud kid who doesn't have much respect for me."
"You have to earn respect from other people instead of begging for it. Explain this poem I wrote earlier and show me how good you are." Wang Hao ignored Zhao Yiling.
"Okay! Let's see what a sophisticated poem you have written." Guo Yunzi grew interested.
Everybody laughed after hearing that, thinking that Wang Hao was overestimating himself by testing Guo Yunzi with a poem.
Xia Weiwei pulled at Le Xuan's arm and whispered, "Why do I feel that Wang Hao is setting a trap again?"
Le Xuan nodded. They had seen it a lot. Every time people thought that Wang Hao would lose for sure, they would fall into Wang Hao's trap.
"In the past, I went boating with a girl. In the spur of the moment, I composed a poem. 'I anchor my boat on the misty river. The sun is setting, but my sorrow is still fresh. The sky is lowered by the spaciousness of the wild, and the moon is particularly close in the clear river.'" Wang Hao raised his head, as if he were recalling a lovely incident from the past.
"You went boating with a girl?" Zhao Yiling turned cold. She had done a simple investigation on Wang Hao's identity and knew that this Jade-Faced Dragon loved sleeping with knowledgeable girls, but it was still an insult to her that he talked about his history so blatantly.
"What a great poem!" Guo Yunzi praised again and said, "The poem describes the natural view quite well. I think the sorrow in the poem is actually nostalgia."
"Nonsense. Who's nostalgic?" Wang Hao said in disdain, before he continued cockily, "Like I said, I was boating with a girl. The mist on the river was very enjoyable, and since it was getting late, we did something we both loved after the sunset. The poem describes that we felt so great when we were doing it that we almost flew to the moon."
Everybody fell silent. Was this really another erotic poem?
Well, it was an erotic poem without erotic words. Only a real shameless man would have created it!
Le Xuan felt like tearing Wang Hao apart alive as Wang Hao was using her identity. It meant that her name as a lustful poet would spread throughout the Glorious Sky Federation after the party.

SUCH SILENCE; SNOW-TRACING WINGS OF MANDARIN DUCKS.

The Zen poets have created a totally different category of poetry called haiku. It does not have many words as other poems have many words. A haiku is a very small piece, but very existential. You don't have to read it, you have to see it.

SUCH SILENCE ... now don't listen to the words 'such silence', but feel it, experience it.

SUCH SILENCE; SNOW-TRACING WINGS. Such high flight that it leaves traces OF MANDARIN DUCKS on the eternal snow of the mountains. Seeing this miracle, you fall into a deep, undisturbed peacefulness.

The haiku is not a song to be sung, it is a song to be experienced and seen. You have to visualize it.

HERE AMONG THE PLUM TWIGS, DRY, YET BLOOMING, THE ORIOLE'S SILENT SONG!

In fact haiku cannot be translated. These words are only approximate. Chinese and Japanese are non-alphabetical languages. They have a totally different world. For example: HERE AMONG THE PLUM TWIGS. You have to use the alphabet, ABC, but in Chinese or Japanese or Korean, it is not letters that are used. You will see pictures of plum twigs, you will see the picture for 'here'.

Everything is a picture. So when you read a Zen poem, remember that it is pictorial.

HERE AMONG THE PLUM TWIGS, DRY, YET BLOOMING, THE ORIOLE'S SILENT SONG!

Here it is possible, in this silence, to understand. This silence is not just a word. You are drowned in it. It is showering on you like rainfall. And suddenly in this silence, a cuckoo starts singing or crickets start their songs. It becomes a haiku.

Poetry has been lived for the first time in haiku. In other languages, poetry has been written but it has not been lived. And the difference is Gautam Buddha's experience, which opens a new dimension - the existential.

Particularly in this country, people are so concerned with words - scriptures, VEDAS, continuous commentaries upon commentaries. In the whole world, there have never been so many commentaries. Just on one book, the SHRIMAD BHAGAVADGITA, there are one thousand commentaries, and those are the famous ones, others may have been lost. But one thousand commentaries? It is as if people lived only words.

In Zen you have to drop the habit of bringing every experience into words. For example, the moment you see a beautiful rose, something inside you immediately puts it into language. Something inside you says, "What a beautiful rose." You cannot remain silent - "What a beautiful morning, what a beautiful sunset." Can't you remain without any words, just watching the sunset? Then you would become almost a part of it. Then it would not be something separate from you, it would be something very intimate and very close. To live poetry, to live music, are by-products of Gautam Buddha's experience.

Ikkyu wrote:

BUDDHISM IS THE SHAVED PART OF THE SAUCEPAN, THE WHISKERS OF THE PEBBLE, THE SOUND THAT ACCOMPANIES THE BAMBOOS IN THE PICTURE.

The bamboo is very much loved by the Zen poets for its tremendous quality of being hollow. Out of this hollowness of the bamboo, a flute can be made. The bamboo will not sing, but it can allow any song to pass through it.

In meditation you have to become hollow, just like a bamboo, so that the whole, the existence itself, can sing its song through you. You become simply a part, dancing, because the wind of the whole is passing through you. The energy of the whole has taken possession of you. You are possessed, you are no more, the whole is.

This moment, as the silence penetrates in you, you can understand the significance of it, because it is the same silence that Gautam Buddha experienced. It is the same silence that Chuang Tzu or Bodhidharma or Nansen .... The taste of the silence is the same. Time changes, the world goes on changing, but the experience of silence, the joy of it, remains the same. That is the only thing you can rely upon, the only thing that never dies. It is the only thing that you can call your very being.

Episode 88 - Country of Music 2 'Eugene's unwanted spotlight'

The King raised his hand, motioning for the instrumentalists to play.
"Well, well." The King paused. Continuing, he spoke with sympathy in his voice. "Why don't you relax and release all your tension from your long trip by listening to some music?"
Before anyone could reject or refuse, he sternly added. "Please sit."
"...." Didn't we get tense because of you? Eugene rolled her eyes in her head, walking with the others to their stoned bench to sit.
Ario moved to the King's side and continued his introduction. "My King, this is Duke Earnest of the Marleigh family, and Duke Amos of the Rodriguez family. They are Xenperia's military general and Xenperia's Great Noble's." He motioned with his hands to Duke Marleigh and Duke Rodriguez as he spoke.
"Welcome, Welcome!" The King spoke with a smile on his face. His previous prey-like behavior, no longer on display.
'Bi-polar?' Eugene blinked at the King's sudden change of character.
"Thank you very much for inviting us. We will be in your majesty's hospitality for the next five days." The quiet Duke of Marleigh spoke, nodding his head to the King.
'The quiet man will take care of all the talks this week?' Eugene looked at Duke Marleigh in surprise. Even Louis, Ron, Aeselak, and Euria looked at Duke Marleigh in shock.
"Hm!" The Emperor hummed, nodding to Duke Marleigh.
Motioning to the children, Ario continued. "These are the 8 Paladin of Xenperia, L-"
"I know who they are." The King cut Ario, raising his hands to stop him from speaking.
'Again?' Eugene glanced at the King and Ario in suspicion. Raising her eyebrows, she thought back to the Chinese drama her former manager forced her to watch.
The King was rude. But his rudeness was the type of rudeness of a typical romance-tragedy tv genre. He was like those overbearing male-lead characters doing the wrong things to get his female-lead.
'Hmm..' Eugene rubbed her chin, turning her detective radar on.
According to her insights, men in these types of shows treat the person they fancy badly because the person they fancy doesn't return their romantic feelings. Seeing as to how the King always stopped Ario from talking, or when he showed the whole world he just bedded four men, this theory was definitely right!
'So when he showed those four men to everyone, it wasn't to us, but Ario huh?' Eugene finally concluded.
'Ario sure is brave to refuse the King's advances.' Eugene glanced at Ario.
Ario was currently smiling gently towards them, as if nothing was wrong, as if he was never interrupted. To this Eugene wanted to laugh!
'Ahh.. this King!' Eugene shook her head in her mind. 'Even though he stands above everyone, is a Supreme leader who commands overall, he still can't get a man he likes!' Eugene gently tapped on the stone-bench she was sitting on in fascination with this situation.
"A pity.." Eugene mumbled to herself, not knowing that the two Dukes heard her.

"Do you know how to play instruments, or write poems?" The King spoke to the Dukes, his eyes closed as if he was enjoying the harps playing in the background.
"No, Your Majesty. We are military men, so we are not familiar with these types of arts." Duke Rodriguez replied in honesty. All he knew was military drills. Poems and music was not something he touched.
"Ahh.." The King hummed. "So, you love blood and those explosion weapons?" The King raised his brows in question.
"And the children?" The King continued, being persistent on this subject. Glancing at a grey-like-white hair boy, he pointed. "Sure enough, you know one or the other?" The King smiled. His smile hinted that he had no expectations what-so-ever.
"I only know how to play the key," Louis honestly replied. And sure enough, the King's grin got wider.
"However," Louis looked at the King blankly. "When it comes to poems, my sister seems to be well versed at, Your Majesty."
"....." The King dropped his grin. "Hmm.." Chuckling, he questioned. "Your sister?" He glanced at the two identical girls. One had grey eyes, and the other had blood-colored eyes.
"Hahaha!" The King suddenly laughed! "I shall look forward to your sister's poem then!" The King lazily held his face with his hands as he laughed. Within a second, he ceased all laughter, becoming serious all of a sudden.
"If they don't live up to expectations, you know what that entails… right?" The King raised his brows at Louis, attempting to scare the little boy.
"..." Eugene blinked, blankly staring at Louis and the King. 'By sister… Did Louis mean her and Euria?' Eugene tilted her head to the side. ' So.. Euria is good at poems?' Eugene turned towards Euria who was stuffing her mouth with grapes.
Realisation hit her! 'No.. he meant her!' Eugene sharply turned her head towards Louis!
'Wait. Wait. Wait! Wait, one minute! What do 'you know what that entails' mean??!?!?' Eugene rapidly blinked her eyes.
Even Duke Marleigh and Duke Rodriguez were staring at Louis in shock!
"Yes Your Majesty, I understand." Louis's lips raised.
'What do you mean you understand?! For what reasons am I involved in this situation!? Am I going to be executed if I don't live up to expectations?!?! And most importantly, why are you smiling!??' Eugene's head exploded with questions! She wants Louis killed right this moment!
"Alright then!" The king replied happily, not giving a chance for Eugene to refuse! The King then motioned for the men playing the harp to come over.
On their way, the men grabbed papers and ink before walking to the King. Handing the things to Ario, Ario then handed multiple papers to Louis who then forced it into Eugene's hands.
"....." Eugene who suddenly received the tools glared at Louis before glancing at her opponents sitting across her. They too were staring at her, gently smiling.
"Alright then, shall we begin?" The King excitedly waved his sleeves for everyone to begin.
"Haa…" Eugene sighed, giving in to the current situation. What can a small girl like her do anyway? She picked up her brush and before she could think, the King spoke again.
"Oh, as for the rewards. This King will grant you anything you want." Continuing, he added. "The loser… well… The loser should take a swim around the lake? Hahaha!" The King boldly announced, shocking everyone in the room.
"YOUR MAJESTY!" Ario shouted, jumping up in shock!
Startled, the King furrowed his eyebrows at Ario. "You spooked me. Why are you raising your voice as if it's not a good idea?" The King raised his brows in question.
"....." Ario looked down.
"Reply." The King threatened.
With his head down, Ario softly replied. "It's nothing."
"...." Eugene glanced back and forth between the two. 'Well, swimming in the lake during summer is nothing.' Eugene optimistically thought. 'But then again, why would I lose?'
She glanced at Ario who was shifting around in discomfort and the King smiling, pleased because of Ario's reaction.
Eugene silently shook her head before feeling a nudge on her waist. Turning, she saw Aernest looking at her worriedly.
'Quickly write!' Aernest silently communicated, sending a telepathic message to Eugene.
'I know!' Eugene telepathy back.
Glancing at her blank paper, Eugene sighed again.

"Hmmm.." Eugene heard a hum. Glancing towards the noise, she saw the King smiling towards the poets who were currently acting shy and coy. Their faces were red and looked as if they were deeply in love with the King.
'..... Hello? Why are you flirting mid-competition?' Eugene frowned. 'Were they taking me lightly?' Eugene's mood dropped.
"Ha. Ha," Eugene suddenly laughed, an idea popping into her head. Should she write down poems about H.I.V, and that practicing un-safe xxx would lead to unwanted diseases?!? SHOULD SHE?!?

"I'm finished." A soft voice suddenly announced.
Glancing up, Eugene stared at the Poet who was also looking in Eugene's direction. The mock in his eyes when he saw that Eugene's paper was pale of any ink. '... That's it, I'm executing you.' Eugene silently thought.
"I'm done too, Your Majesty" The 2nd poet also announced. Unlike the first poet, he never glanced at Eugene but only at Ario's direction.
'The jealous type.' Eugene's detective radar actively picked on.
"Alright then, begin when you are ready." The King smiled, motioning for the first poet to read out his poem.
Before the poet began to read, the Dukes and the Paladins worriedly glanced Eugene's way. They were anxious because she hasn't written anything yet. Even Louis, the culprit behind the scenes, furrowed his eyebrows.
Eugene shook her head to relay that everything was alright. Putting her brush down, she glanced across the room to the Poet who stood up to read.
'Everything is alright.' She didn't need to write to remember her poems. She was, after all, using poems from her former world. Besides, she was going to decide which poems to use after her opponents finished reciting. This way, she will have the advantage to counter their attacks and win!
The 1st poet nodded to the King, indicating that he was ready.
"You may begin." The King replied, crossing his legs and closing his eyes to listen.
"Yes, Your Majesty" The 1st poet with bobbed hair replied.
Shifting his body towards the guests, he began in a sad, sorrowful voice that came up from nowhere.
"Let your children be flowers,
Free from pains and hardships,
Oh, god, overestimations,
Lead to eternal sleep,
Regrets and pains,
Are not worth your greed.
Innocent innocent flowers,
We pray for thoust loss"
The bobbed hair man ended, swiping tears that dripped down from the corner of his eyes.
"....." Everyone stopped breathing.
Eugene felt her face dropping. With a face devoid of any emotions, she glanced at the people sitting beside her.
Duke Marleigh and Duke Rodriguez's faces were completely black. Even Louis and Aedelak who normally didn't show any emotions looked stiff.
The poem roughly translates to:
"Let your children be flower" - 'Let the children be children.'
"Free from pains and hardships" - 'Free the children from adult's war.'
"Oh, god, overestimations." - 'You're overestimations.'
"Lead to eternal sleep" - 'Will kill your children.'
"Regrets and Pain" - 'You will regret and face the worst agony'
"Are not worth your greeds" - 'Their death isn't worth adult's greed.'
"Innocent innocent flowers" - 'The children are innocent.'
"We pray for thoust loss" - 'We pray for your loss'
The last line of the poem was problematic. They weren't dead yet, yet the poem was praying for their loss. This was something that should never be said to someone who was still alive, as it brings bad luck. Not to mention, the poem was certain that they were going to die.
"Young Miss." Aedelak softly muttered. She broke character and publicly glared at Louis for putting Eugene into this situation!
Clenching his hand for 2 seconds to release his unwanted emotion, Louis glanced at Eugene. To his surprise, Eugene was smiling as if she was holding in her laughter.  Following her gaze, Louis saw that the King too had the same reaction.
Like Eugene, the King of Zene almost burst out laughing. Sending love eyes to the poet, began to clap in acknowledgment.
This action of his made Eugene lean for her STD poems even more!
Eugene looked at Ario who had the same dark expression as Duke Marleigh and Duke Rodriguez. The three stayed silent, looking as if their mouths were stuffed with paper.
"What's wrong? What's happening, sister?" Aernest noticed the dark atmosphere and asked.
"Hmm... They are sick." Eugene replied, loud enough for the people sitting on her side to hear. By sick, Eugene meant mentally ill.
"Sick? What sickness?" Euria furrowed her eyebrows and asked. Her cheeks, now stuffed with watermelon.
"Hmm.." Eugene pondered for a moment before replying in all seriousness. "This sickness is in the head. It's called being mentally dysfunctional or mentally disabled. They only contract this sickness when one feels inferior to you."
Eugene smiled, knowing what poem she was going to use to counter.
"Huh? I don't understand what you are saying, sister." Euria drooped chin, displaying her double chin publicly.
Eugene shook her head, her eyes conveying that Euria was too young to understand.
"Sister, I also do not get it!" Aernest chimed in, seeing that Eugene wasn't going to elaborate further. She was always like this, using difficult words that he couldn't understand when they were around people of older age! She becomes a different person when she meets different people, especially when she encounters people she dislikes!
Eugene softly sighed, before explaining. "They are sad people. Every day, every year, every second, they are sad people. People we should pity!" Eugene explained in simple terms. "Their heads are broken into many pieces."
".....Psh…" Ron Graeme snorted, unable to hold back his laughter.
Duke Marleigh and Duke Rodriguez too had a hard time holding in their laughter. They were worried for Eugene but seeing her saying that the people across from them are basically retards, they felt relief. She was still alright with the competition!
Elbowing Louis, Ron Graeme whispered. "Your sister is amazing. So young yet as sharp as a sword. I really don't want to be the one she talks about! It's too hurtful!"

Bai Zao fell silent for a moment and pressed, "How did you guess it?"
"Calculating is not guessing," said Jing Jiu.
